My main reason is that Holmescest is a M/M ship, not a M/M/F or M/F/M ship.

There is no actual rule you can't use that word for each iteration: Sherlock/Eurus, Mycroft/Eurus, Mycroft/Sherlock or Mycroft/Sherlock/Eurus... it means Holmes incest... but why would you? There is a reason ship names exist. It's to make it easier to say and less wordy than having to type Character/Character every time. If we use the same ship name for different ships and have to ask which one the other person means or we don't ask and then have to solve a misunderstanding, it defeats the whole purpose and makes it *more* confusing. This way we just have to use Mylock/Shercroft again, when we couldn't ever decide on one in the first place, and we can't use Holmescest as it now refers to multiple ships, so we're back at square one only worse. Just call them new words. Mycroft/Sherlock was there first and existed for years before.

I don't like Eurus. If you don't realize that by now you really haven't been paying attention.

Regarding ship names. Technically I do think about them in their actual English names in my head but here's a story on The Translation In Sherlock, Chinese Edition:

Conventionally names are translated by how they sound and it's not perfect and you end up getting rarely used words. Such as the conventional translation for ACD Sherlock and Mycroft. Well, mostly Sherlock, who is already a famous case for dialects and mistakes-kept-because-convention which I will cease to discuss.

The word they used for Sher was 歇 which is never used in names. Mycroft ended up with 5 syllables because we don't end anything in consonants. I use this version whenever I'm referring to ACD canon, because that's what I read. And it has a distinct pre-21st-century translation style to it.

Then there was the show and the show needed a translated version of the title and translated subtitles. At which point some genius translator chose 夏 for Sher, which means 'summer'. Mycroft got 3 syllables this time, dropping the r and the t, and they didn't used the old-fashioned version of My that you see in, idk, translations of Mike and Michael before this century, 迈, but went with 麦 instead, which means 'wheat'.

(They don't really mean anything when you know they are just sounds from the names but it is a language that is read before it is heard, so. Tends to leave an impression anyway.)

(And Sherlock was always 3 syllables because we don't allow consonant endings other than n or ng.)

So it looks rather nice, aesthetically, to my untrained eyes. Has a distinct plant-ness to the whole thing that I quite like. Refreshing. None of the other shipnames in the fandom have that ring to it.

We name ships by either circumstances unique to them or combining names. We also tend to distinguish top and bottom by which name is at the front. Either way, 麦夏 and 夏麦 look nice and look like they match, to some extend. There goes your equivalence of Mylock and Shercroft.

The equivalence of 'Holmescest' is 福骨, where 福 is the conventional Holmes dialect-mistake-that-we-can't-shake. 骨 is literally 'bones', and in this context strictly sibling incest, from some supposedly real life story that sibling incest happened and the parents found out and sibling ended up with broken bones. Probably not true but that's the tradition.

One thing I do like about this convention is that we call siblings, when you are going for more classical vibes, 手足, literally 'hand and feet'. Limbs, if you like. The 'bones' thing always reminds me of this. Blood thicker than water, or something.

And since we don't have anti incest in fandom culture the joke about incest is that if the pairing break up and still have to sit through the same Christmas dinner. Not Christmas; Chinese New Year, but that's the equivalent. Effectively.

Anyway. Because the wording choice for Mycroft and Sherlock in BBC Sherlock is, well, uniquely BBC Sherlock, I tend to associate it with such. ACD or any other adaptation, I don't really think about them with those names. Holmescest-equivalent would sound more flexible, I think. Just saying.

first of all hell yeah. way back when i was more into johnlock, but shercroft (mylock?? holmescest?) is good too. i forget her name but add their sister in there and it's golden.

and i just love spiderverse :). spider-noir is a fav of mine and peni is just as cool! they'd be cute together. though i think i like peter porker(is that his name?) and spider-noir better as a ship, compared to noir and peni. if anything those two are like her weird uncles, XD.

AND APPARENTLY HELLO KITTY HAS A TWIN???? i LOVE hello kitty (the aesthetic/character, so i don't know much about lore/backstory) and i'm literally stanley "twin lover" pines... BIG win for me personally.

It doesn't sound as... intuitive as Mylock or Shercroft because those use the parts that have the natural separation of their names by syllable, My-croft and Sher-lock.

Sherlock is the only one allowed to call him ‘Myc’.  He only does it when they’re alone, because he’s possessive over his rights.   Mycroft belongs to the government. Myc is his.

I will never condone incest in RL; I’m repelled by incest in tv/films/stories.  Yet the dynamic between Sherlock and Mycroft is compelling and fascinating and an absolute train wreck and perfection.  There are incredible fics exploring their twisted and innate connection and are among the absolute best in the fandom.  Which is exactly what shipping and fic is about - exploring the connections and dynamics between  **fictional**  characters, slam them together and see what happens.  With the Holmes Brothers, it becomes an angstfest that goes off the charts.  And being an angst slut, I eat it up with a spoon.

And no one gets to tell me what to ship.

Was scrolling through Instagram and saw some Sherlock blogger ship-shaming Holmescest again...this honestly confounds me. One of the things I hear Johnlockers say most often in defense of their ship is that “they would die for each other,” well guess what, Mycroft isn’t only ready to die for Sherlock, but would even die for John, who dislikes and belittles him and whom he isn’t overly fond of either, just because he’s convinced that Sherlock needs John more than him.

Ok, “but they’re brothers,” I hear you. But fantasy and transgression are important aspects of shipping/fan creation, no? I repeat, FANTASY. If it’s ok for people to write about things they would never, ever do or derive pleasure from in real life, why is it wrong to ship two characters who are related but who also understands each other in a way no one else could and have excellent chemistry whenever they’re together?

I’m soooo sick and tired of people saying that Holmescest is wrong and perverted and that we should feel ashamed of ourselves for shipping them. I’m a diehard Mycroft fan and I basically ship him with everyone, but no other two characters in Sherlock could bewitch me the way the Holmes brothers do, and they would forever remain my OTP.

“I feel sorry for those who ship Shercroft.” Indeed. I feel worse for those who couldn’t tolerate other people shipping a couple they themselves don’t get and who have little understanding of the division between fantasy and reality. Shame on you for trying to shame others about seeing beautiful possibilities between two of the most fascinating and formidable characters on contemporary television.

BBC Sherlock and What It Means To Me

Okay, so since it’s been pretty quiet out there, I guess I’ll share my story of how BBC Sherlock helped me out in my life. As some of you know if you pay any attention whatsoever to my blog, I’m neurodivergent and I’ve gone through really tough times. I’m not gonna outline everything for y’all, I mean I do have some modicum of shame and some things are best kept private (unless if it’s night and I’m sleep deprived enough to share things to the point where everyone’s uncomfortable). But all you have to know is that I’m socially impaired and so I had no friends, lived in a too-big house on a hill about 30 minutes away from the city. Hardly any neighbors, so the cows and chickens and dogs were what I interacted with the most, bar my family of three (grandparents and aunt). 

So yeah, I was really lonely, I didn’t know how to fit in or belong or talk to people. I’m not in school, so that means even less chance for human interaction. I felt like I was going insane (my biological dad would probably argue that I was insane, but that’s not the point). The point is that I found this show when I was in a really bad place and it helped me a lot. I managed to relate to these characters and gave me something to be interested in so I could get my head outta the dark cloud it was in. I heard that the show helped a lot of people find themselves, which this show definitely did for me. I definitely realized some things about myself I didn’t know before.

They gave me fandom which, in a way, is like family to me. This fandom- positive and funny and kind from what I’ve seen- was a lifesaver in more ways than one. I managed to relate to them and this show was a common interest, saving me the awkwardness and helping me with my social ineptitude. It helped me tap into my creativity and I made video edits, photo edits, gifs, and I wrote fics, all of which people responded to with kindness and appreciation and nice comments. Also, because of someone on here, I finally accepted myself as transgender even if he doesn’t know it. We hardly even talk, but... just knowing it wasn’t just me that was this way made me brave enough to come out. ( @shag-me-senseless-watson is the person I’m talking about. Thanks friendo, you sorta mean a lot even if we hardly talk.)

BBC Sherlock is a special interest and it’s something that really means the world to me but the fandom is at least half of what makes this great. All the fanfiction I’ve read, all the fanart I’ve seen, all the meta that blew my mind... the fandom is very important, because there’s all these people making things with their own time completely for free simply because they love the show. That is something that never ceases to amaze me. 

Part of the reason I made the page @ibelieveinmofftiss with @lymphadei is to gather up people who love this show and see how many lives this show has affected. We’re all a family now, no matter what ship you ship, what your favorite season was, or what your opinions are about different things.

I don’t really like the idea of any of my ships being canon, actually. I like to imagine and pretend and get all into the fangirl self when they do something subtle Canon sort of takes the emotion away, at least for me.

Remember, when Sherlock and John sat in Buckingham Palace and they laught about Mycroft being the Queen. What if it wasn't a Joke. In chess, the Queen is the one figure with the most possibilities in moving. Like Mycroft who always abuses his possibilities of his job to protect his little brother. So we can say Mycroft is the Queen who protects his personal King... His little brother.

I have a headcanon that Mycroft was turned down by MI6 when he first graduated, but they approached Sherlock in his final year at university. Sherlock refused the job because he knew how much it had hurt Mycroft not to get it. They never spoke about it, and Sherlock still doesn't know whether Mycroft is aware of his decision.
