Not that anything's a for sure bet but my read on the general situation re: Harris-Walz is that there's going to be a lot less headwind to fight for Harris specifically as opposed to Clinton because the amazing right wing media hasn't had twenty years for poison to seep into the layperson's thoughts about Clinton's "worthiness"

Well, that and the fact that the MAGA crowd are just really, really bad strategic planners (especially since a solid 75% of their strategy is "lol we'll just cheat and win it that way, we don't need anything else.") They howled for 3.5 years about how Biden was too old to serve and should step down, and then when he did, they had zero plan how to run against Kamala and Trump is now practically begging Biden to magically get back into the race and save him. They ran an anti-Shapiro influence campaign by encouraging the antisemitic online left and planning to exploit the issue among Democrats divided on Israel/Gaza, then furiously melted down when Walz was picked and had no plan to deal with him either. Fascism is a helluva drug, kiddos. Don't try it at home.

The reason Harris has been able to rocket so high is simple, which is that she's channeling Obama 08 energy in more ways than one. Obama also came onto the national political scene four years before (with his speech at the 2004 DNC) and four years later, he was the party's nominee. It didn't even matter that he was a skinny brown guy named Barack Hussein Obama, because people were so tired of the chaos and war and incompetence of Bush Jr that they latched onto a simple message of hope and change and the historical nature of his candidacy felt like an optimistic risk worth taking. Why couldn't it be time for the first African American president? Yes, of course, there was incredible vitriol and we are still dealing with that backlash in some ways now, but still.

As I have said before, Trump is technically not the incumbent, but the last 8 years have been dominated by his hatred, chaos, division, rage, and treason in a way even Bush could never quite manage, and when people get to that point, there's a lot of coiled-up energy that has at last come bursting out. We needed Biden's old-moderate-white-man cred to defeat Trump as the sitting president in 2020, when most of his worst scandals hadn't even happened yet, but this is not 2020 (or 2016) and the dynamic is different. We are now on offense and playing to win, people have readily and eagerly embraced the absolute god tier karma that would come from a black female prosecutor finally ending the Orange Menace's reign of terror once and for all, and the Republicans are spitting smoke and spinning gears running frantically through their usual tired old stupid cliche attacks. GAY TRANS EVIL BIRTHERISM SWIFTBOAT FOREIGN FAR LEFT COMMIE LIBERAL HEATHEN!! they scream desperately, trying to find something that sticks. Trump called attention to the discrepancy between his height (reportedly 6-foot-3) and Kamala Harris’s (5-7½ in heels), insisting that no accommodation be made to appear closer in size.

“No boxes or artificial lifts will be allowed to stand on during my upcoming debate with Comrade Kamala Harris,” he wrote, adding that such accommodations would be “a form of cheating.” There’s no evidence Harris has sought such things. 

Nicholas Rule, a psychology professor at the University of Toronto who researches social perception and cognition, said Harris’s shorter height will be irrelevant tonight because she exudes “Tall Energy,” which he defined as “the confidence that comes from being above average height.”

I am 4-feet-10. At my highest, I was 4-feet-11. I doubt I have “Tall energy.” But if I were on the stage tonight with Donald Trump, I’d demolish him. 

To be sure, when it comes to choosing leaders, our society is exceptionally heightist. 

When I ran for the Democratic nomination for governor of Massachusetts in 2002, it seemed that the only attribute reporters wanted to cover was my height. Regardless of what I said in my speeches, the Boston Globe ran photos of me standing on boxes so I could see over the podium. The right-wing Boston Herald ran a headline on its front page charging “Short People Are Furious with Reich” because I had joked about my height on the campaign trail. 

None of it helped me with that election. But I didn’t lose because of my height. I lost because I was a lousy campaigner.

Research shows that voters do prefer taller candidates. A paper published in 2013 by psychologists at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands analyzed the results of American presidential elections dating back to 1789. They found that taller candidates received more votes than shorter ones in roughly two-thirds of all elections. And the taller the candidates were relative to their opponents, the greater the average margin of their victory. 

Among presidents who have sought a second term, winners have been two inches taller, on average, than losers. The authors conclude that height may explain as much as 15 percent of the variation in election outcomes. 

It’s similar in the private sector. A survey of the heights of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies showed they were on average six feet tall -- about 2.5 inches taller than the average American man.

Why are we so heightist? Probably because of some genetic trigger in our brain that told early humans they needed the protection of very big men. Other things being equal, large males are more to be feared and they live longer. An impulse to defer to them, or prefer them as mates, makes evolutionary sense.

In Size Matters, Stephen S. Hall writes that in the eighteenth-century Frederick William of Prussia paid huge sums to recruit giant soldiers from around the world, thereby giving tangible value to matters of inches, and revealing “the desirability of height for the first time in a large, post-medieval society.”

But hey, I’m okay with giant soldiers, big security guards, and massive CEOs. I don’t care if I lack “Tall energy.” I’m fortunate to have grown up (or at least grown upward) in a society that values brains at least as much as brawn.

Kamala will win tonight, and she’ll go on to win the election in 55 days — not because of her “Tall energy,” but because she’s smarter, tougher, and better in every way than her large, stupid, decrepit opponent.

Guys hear me out… BLU Spy is a film buff who likes the Film Noir genre.

If you haven’t heard of/watched film noir, it’s 40s-50s era detective movies. If you’ve watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit, you basically get the gist of what the genre is like. Jessica Rabbit is a subversion of the fem fatale trope of a shrexy lady who works for the bad guys or is the main bad guy of the movie. Judge Doom is the crooked cop/official, R.K. Maroon is another corrupt party that allied with Doom. And Eddie Valiant is our cynical and jaded detective protagonist.

Now think about movies for a minute. How many times does the protagonist do something impossible because it looks cool? Be honest, John Wick is doing some maneuvers that make zero sense to real martial artists and government agents. Now think about how BLU Spy acts in Em Blue and Meet the Spy.

How many times does a detective/cop/agent protagonist go fight a dangerous person alone, and win? Usually there’s a struggle, but they still win. Spy didn’t though. Imagine he’s having a nightmare where one of the aspects is literally “You’re not that guy pal. Trust me, you’re not that guy.”

This is not the time to make demands, this is the time to shoot the guy with a bigger, faster gun before he can get you. But the good guy usually manages to shoot first or dodge, so he can have the confidence to do something this risky. Except it doesn’t work for Spy.

I can’t help but wonder if one of the reasons is that Soldier is an actual war veteran and not crazy like RED; remember how I mentioned real experts before? What if Solly’s fighter logic is cancelling out Hollywood logic in the scenes where he and Spy are together? Of course, that’s not the only reason why Spy can’t do the cool things he’s trying; it’s insecurity.

What happens in Meet the Spy?

So BLU Spy decided to do the dramatic thing and monologue to his teammates about the RED Spy in base, knowing darn well that one of them is probably said Spy. Carrying literal dead weight with the RED’s weapon lodged in it. With full confidence.

Some people think he knew “Scout” was RED Spy, but I actually think he fell for it. Why else would he say “nothing. Nothing like the man currently inside this building!” and then give said abnormally skilled and dangerous Spy his knife back? And that’s not the only reason he didn’t know, either.

This folder of dirty pictures is BLU Spy’s trump card. Yeah, showing it to RED to humiliate him would be funny… but not the most satisfying outcome. Giving it to the Admin for enemy team blackmail? More satisfying. Giving it to one of RED Spy’s enemies so they can kidnap BLU Ma or study the layout of that room? Devilishly satisfying. But that’s still not his end goal.

Scout is the youngest member of the team with the most to learn. You’re telling me that the same Administrator who hired a Director to get dirt on RED team, and doesn’t even care much for Pauling, doesn’t have two-faced Spies on both sides? BLU and RED teammates willing to sell their team’s secrets for bonuses or their own protection? Oh they exist.

This BLU Spy is not one of these double crossers IRL; but he does look for dirt on RED team. He was probably taking the dirtier pictures to get shot of RED without his mask, but he left it on. But he found out BLU Ma is consorting with an enemy teammate, and that’s very important. He wasn't showing this to Scout just to assert dominance as an older teammate, he was saying “Look, your mama can’t be trusted. Don’t give her your information.”

“PATTY CAKE? PATTY CAKE?! I don’t believe it! [cries]”

“Believe it sister, she played Patty Cake.”

It’s the same thing but more disrespectful, he’s trying to wise the real BLU Scout up about mercenary work.

And before anyone asks, no, BLU Spy is not BLU Scout’s daddy. No sane parent would show those pictures to their child, even if he’s an adult and his mama cheated. Besides that, Spy shows literally zero interest in romance during Em Blue, even when he’s telling Archibald what promotions he wants. That’s… not a normal occurrence in Film Noirs.

I’m not saying getting tricked by RED Spy and loosing those pictures before the real Scout could see them is the reason BLU Spy doubts his own abilities. But it’s at least a factor in the bigger reason.

chayanne, bobby, dapper, and leo are all in the same year at school. meanwhile, tallulah, tilin, juanaflippa, ramon, trump are in the year below them. (juanaflippa was actually supposed to be in the same year as the older kids, but because of how sick she's been in the past she missed a lot of school and ended up having to repeat a year). and richarlyson is in the year below those guys so he's the youngest.

chayanne and bobby are insanely competitive with each other. chayanne is at the top of the class with grades, he always does the best in PE, and he he's super involved in a ton of extracurriculars like sports. bobby is much more of a little shit who will go out of his way to cause trouble, but he also gets perfect grades and always does really well in PE so he and chayanne have a bit of a rivalry going on. also this isn't to say chayanne isn't a little shit. he definitely is. but where bobby would put a pie on someone's chair so they would sit on it as a prank, chayanne would just throw the pie directly in their face. he's more direct basically

dapper also does really well in school and gets along well with the other kids, but he's the kind of kid that almost prefers talking to adults. that's probably because of how close he and bad are, with bad being a single parent who usually just handles things himself, so dapper always comes with if he's going to a dinner party or something even if other kids won't be there. also, he loves knowing all the adult gossip (kid friendly version) from his dad.

although leo doesn't get perfect grades like chayanne and bobby, she can give those two a run for their money in PE. she's not afraid to get down and dirty. also tbh I haven't watched a ton of streams with leo in them, but she has the energy of a kid that would make 'potions' out of dirt and worms. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but that's just a vibe.

as i said in a previous ask, tallulah transferred in mid year and became friends with tilin, who then introduced her to juanaflippa at lunch since she's in a different class than the other two girls. tallulah is a very sweet girl who tried to be nice to everyone she meets. she sometimes gets in trouble for trying to play her flute in class though because it distracts the other kids :( also like dapper tallulah is really good at talking to adults bc of how much she and wilbur moved around when she was younger, but she doesn't necessarily prefer talking to adults like dapper sometimes does.

juanaflippa gets sick a lot. like, a lot a lot. she's got a ton of allergies and has had to miss a lot of school in the past, and it definitely doesn't help that charlie and mariana are a young couple who were definitely not ready for a kid let alone a kid that regularly has to go to the hospital. but they're working things out! also juanaflippa is a kid who very much doesn't realize how abnormal her home life is. she learned how to shoot a bb gun when she was 5 bc charlie thought it'd look sick, and now she's a crack shot. she knows the passcodes to both charlie and mariana's phones bc they both privately asked her if she could figure out the code by watching it get put in so they could look through each other's phones—and no, she hasn't said anything about them both doing this to either of them. she's convinced satan once visited her bedroom at night and they just chatted. while mariana reasons that it was a nightmare charlie also had the same nightmare so he's not so sure.

richarlyson does not realize it's not common to have 5 dads until he starts talking to the other kids at his school. he got really confused when juanaflippa was talking about how mad her dads got at each other bc they were accusing the other of cheating bc he didn't know about monogamy. he's a rambunctious kid who definitely takes some risks he shouldn't (which is probably bc of how chaotic some of his dads are) which is how he ends up breaking his leg within his first week at the school. also he's slowly gaining a love for puzzles bc he likes to stay up late and watch his dad cellbit decode stuff at his computer. oh, and forever has convinced richarlyson he's a werewolf. there's literally no reason for this forever just thought it would be funny but the bit has gone on for too long now and he's not sure how to explain to his kid that it's not true. he's just hoping that richarlyson eventually realizes werewolves aren't real on his own.

If I had to choose, I would say pap photos of them definitely, she will be posting and showing off her stomach in revealing clothes because that is now a popular trend for pregnant celebrities to be doing. I really can't believe this happened. I worked so hard just to survive this long, and I really let myself hope. Under the cut just because this got long.

I don't mean to say I'm mad that my preferred candidate didn't win, although I am mad about that because of what the guy who won has done and promises to do in the coming years.

I'm disgusted and disappointed in my country in a way I never thought I would be. To me, that's been the real gut-punch. I was prepared to be angry and frustrated and worried. I was prepared for the electoral college to give it to him, or for SCOTUS or Congress to hand it to him, or for there to be shenanigans after the election like there were last time he was in office.

I was not prepared to confront the fact that he might win and that we'd know in less than 24 hours. That he would win the popular vote in addition to the electoral college. That's what really gets me about all this. I thought we were better than this. I feel like he cheated, but we'll probably never know.

And I think believing he cheated is my brain's way of grasping at straws, trying to rationalize or explain things somehow. Because that makes more sense than trying to wrap my head around the idea that he won legitimately. That a majority of voters hate women and Black women in particular so much they'd rather have a fascist windbag who admires Hitler and has a boner for Putin. Fuck out of here with that bullshit.

But that does seem to be reality. So I have no choice but to figure out a plan to handle it. I don't know what that looks like yet, but I'm probably not going to be safe in the state of Florida anymore.

And I'm done pulling punches on social media. Anybody on my feed posting shit like "we can disagree and still be friends because I'm a mature adult," implying that anybody who's upset about the situation is just being a whiny pissbaby and needs to stop being dramatic, is getting told about themselves.

I'm not framing it as a personal attack. I'm just going, "look, you may not realize how you sound." Tactfully, I mean. And it worked in at least one case; a girl I went to high school with posted something like that, and I let her have it. But I made it clear that I wasn't attacking her, just illustrating how things like this make people feel right now.

Turns out, one of her sons is bi and trans, a teenager, and she's getting herself educated on gender-affirming care and doing her best to support him. What I said got her attention, so she decided to take the post down because "if it makes [me] uncomfortable, it probably would make [her] son feel uncomfortable, too." She didn't vote for Trump, and I didn't assume anything one way or the other, and I made that clear, too.

Basically, I was confrontational without being a dick or assuming she had malicious intentions or anything else about her. And it started a conversation. Maybe I can give her some advice or suggestions for how she can help her son. She's my age, and we grew up in the same rural town, but I got out and went to college. I got lucky. And I learned a lot about myself and had to educate myself on being trans, among many other things. She might have questions I could answer. This is good. I'm not responding today, because I just can't right now, but the point is, sometimes people really don't know how they're coming across right now. So don't just assume anything. But don't take any shit, either.

Now I'm making myself sad wondering if he'll ever get to go to pride. I never was able to. Now maybe neither of us ever will.

While I think it's highly unlikely to happen at the moment, it would be interesting if Laudna attempted a Warlock Patron Swap from Delilah to Ashton.

I suppose the first question to this hypothetical is: Does Ashton have the power to be a Patron?

I would say 'yes.' They've got their Dunamantic Baby Titan shit going on, which has the kind of power and potential to unnerve a Level 20 Archdruid that helped seal away a newborn god. Also, Delilah is a fucking Patron and she's just a clever Archmage necromancer who cuddled up to a demigod trying to go pro. I think Ashton's qualifications trump hers.

Next question: What about Laudna's Delilah-supported unlife?

I'm not sure that Delilah actually provided any help on that front besides the initial boost back from the dead. Sure, there's some Delilah flavoring for Strength of the Grave, but that comes from her Sorcerer Subclass: Shadow Magic, and thus is not actually mechanically tied to anything Delilah.

Also, at this point, Laudna is alive thanks to the resurrection ritual Pike ran on her specifically after Bells Hells suppressed or temporarily severed the connection to Delilah. So ditching the necromancer shouldn't kill Laudna.

Third question: What happens to Laudna's Warlock Subclass?

Technically, arguments can be made for Ashton to support a continuation of the Undead subclass. He's cheated death at least once with the dunamis to the brain. Which could be a very permanent 'fuck off' to death if it also consecuted Ashton in that event, and I think there's a high probability to that. Not to mention that 'every iteration of my life exists within my head' can totally have some more Undead juice to give to Laudna.

Though I think it would also be interesting for Laudna to end up with a different subclass as well.

Undying fits the above argument for Ashton better than Undead, as they do not persist on a state of unlife, but rather a cycle of rebirth via consecution, and possibly a Titan's longevity/potential immunity to aging (that hasn't had a chance to come into play, or not, yet).

To really change it up would be to go with the Genie subclass. I don't think I need to argue why Ashton can Patron as the one elemental subclass for warlocks. And this would probably add the most versatility to Laudna's capabilities and provide a new challenge to keeping her aesthetic. Also, it would be really funny if she turned her birdhouse into the pact vessel.

Fourth question: Would Laudna make the switch?

Maybe.

Laudna is certainly on friendlier terms with Ashton than Delilah, and she has expressed an interest in Primordial powers over Divine.

Though I worry about the trust that would be needed for Laudna to make the switch. She had her little outburst in ep70, thinking Ashton would kidnap Imogen. Which could just be trauma-induced paranoia, but if it's not, well, that's a hit. And there was also the little trust mess from when FCG first snapped, including how Delilah seems to have semi-groomed Laudna to not trust others besides herself.

There is also the issue that, as some posts have pointed out, Laudna is not terribly active about getting rid of Delilah despite her stated distaste for having Delilah around.

I realize that at this point in the story (ep70), Laudna's trying to squeeze any extra power out that she can for the coming fights, but, on the other hand, 30 years without breaking into libraries and laboratories and anywhere that might have answers on how to exorcise this necromantic bitch? When Laudna is living a life with practically nothing to lose? It's just incredibly passive about having an unwanted passenger. And even when severing the connection was mentioned as something to learn at the Starpoint Conservatory along with finding information on Imogen's dreams, it seemed more like a goal of Imogen's than Laudna's. Or at least a goal that Imogen came up with to rescue Laudna from Delilah, and Laudna went along with it because it sounded nice and Imogen wanted to do it.

I think, in a way, Laudna has given up on being rid of Delilah, and I think that would get in her way for accepting, or even attempting to acquire, a new Patron.

So yeah. Interesting thing that's probably never going to happen. But, I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does end up happening (and a little bit smug that I penned the thought down beforehand).

First:There were rumors about lando cheating on his ex the same exact rumors about Magui cheating on her ex but the difference is Magui's ex literally denied the cheating rumors and said she never cheated on him while the rumors about lando had never been denied.

Second: They hate her because she liked a racist and Islam phobic tweet ? I mean wasn't lando s*cking Trump's d*ck and saying that he deserves respect? Roleplayers are Mentally Unstable

(I'm greatly exaggerating, but the title isn't all that far off from reality.)

Throughout my years on Discord, I've met all kind of people - and I can safely assume that at least half of them either have a mental health problem, they're just massive pieces of shit, or both. To be fair, I've met loads of incredible people, but even the best have their failings.

I'm no better - hell, I'm probably worse than some of my friends; I'm an emotional wreck reliant on other people's validation to continue functioning. But I've recognized that, well, roleplayers can be, in a lot of cases, vulnerable escapists who might not easily tolerate critiques.

Creative people aren't exactly the models of mental health, and with roleplaying, the problems only multiply. It's a hobby for those who want to escape the daily struggle of reality, to forget their troubles and just do stupid shit. That's generally fine, really - but very often, escapism doesn't seem to be a healthy way to approach roleplaying, let alone the rest of the world.

I think that comes due to an issue with one's mentality. I've also started roleplaying partially to get away from the monotony and pain of high school (cursed be it's name), but as I became older and more experienced, the other reasons for having this hobby - curiosity, a sense of community - trumped escaping the real world. Hell, while I'm still generally isolated from other people IRL, I no longer see roleplaying as an avenue for running away from real life; it's 'just' a passion that takes some of my time away and helps me make friends.

I admit, though, I spend too much time inside a cramped room.

Obviously, other people aren't so lucky. I'm generally well off, but some of the acquaintances and friends I made are worse off; hell, I've seen a handful of them basically melt down, go off on really unhinged rants, and admit to thinking some really fucked up shit, which... yeah, that happens. I've done that too a couple of times.

It also doesn't help it's full of youngsters over there. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but teenage drama, combined with escapism, leads to some pretty cringey or even outright terrible events - 2019 wasn't the brightest year in my life.

That, and when you start roleplaying, you're generally bound to have terrible ideas and shit writing; it happens, and you shouldn't ashamed of it, but remembering the teen edgefests and the power-ups and abilities I ripped off of Dragon Ball isn't exactly uplifting.

I still remember my first romantic relationship, and holy shit, it's kinda hilarious to look back on.

Yeah, it was a long-distance relationship on Discord of all damn platforms; it wasn't perfect, we were too horny for our own good (especially myself), and we were both emotional crutches to each other, but it was a positive experience overall for me.

Then, after a strange breakup some months before, she vanished, and soon after I found out she had cheated on me with other friends in the server we were a part of. I wasn't terribly upset about it, but I do know one of my friends was pretty fucked up once he found out.

I'm not mad at her. I think she was just too desperate to connect with other people for her own good. I think she was generally honest about who she was or the life she lived; but I wish she had at least been honest and admitted this to all of us before she left our lives.

If you're reading this, old friend, I'm not upset. I'm just confused about why you did all this.

Sorry for going off on a tangent like that (and that this isn't a coherent rant), but yeah. That's about it, really; you'll get better at roleplaying, but you can also slowly get better as a person. It just takes effort, dedication, and a couple of good friends. That, and maybe a change of mentality.

Don't get upset when you people critique your MHA knockoff OC (not to be confused with outright insulting you, obviously); just ask for feedback. Besides, with enough practice and time, you'll get better at it, and you'll even come up with your own ideas. Don't expect them to be (wholly) original; but that's not an issue on it's own, it mostly depends on how you implement those ideas.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle was a big factor in their rs and in turn their issues. It seems like ak carry’s a weird guilt and in turn centres Kyle in everything. I'm stuck in Texas for a while paying off my car, so my current goals are to get a better job (one that I don't have to drive 80-90 minutes round-trip for), pay off my debts, and get better at my musicianship and other media-related skills.
