Amara was blind. She did not deny that. She did not know what her lover truly looked like, nor did she know her daughter’s face. But she could see their souls. Her lover was something other, that she knew. No matter how Sanguinius attempted to be otherwise, she could see his soul for what he was. It was a beautiful thing, bright and colourful yet ultimately not something meant for human eyes. There were some parts that she couldn’t see, parts that seemed incomprehensible; she best described her husband as almost a sphinx with many wings and many teeth. There eyes on it too, some were a beautiful golden hue like a drop of honey in the sunlight, others were the blue of the sky, and others still were a deep bloody crimson. Such a beautiful golden pelt, this sphinx had with feathers of white tipped with gold. He was beautiful, and not human. She accepted that. His soul was not what human souls looked like. Not even the mutants had souls that looked like his. 

Her daughter was similar, despite being born from a human, Lilith was more akin to her father, though her eyes were only the colour of his red eyes. Amara could see things that seemed recognizably human, things that most certainly came from Amara, but Lilith was too bright. She shone with a light that not even Sanguinius had and it confused Amara. It was like looking upon a star, or at least how Amara imagined it would be. There were also other little things that were strange, things she couldn’t explain but Lilith shared those oddities with her father’s soul so Amara thought little of it.

Until He came. He declared Himself the Emperor of Mankind, but Amara could see something different. It was so very large that soul, and so very strange, but it was bright, bright like her daughter’s. Her child was like this Man. Though she didn’t quite want to call Him a man. She would gladly call her husband a man even though that wasn’t really what he was either, but the Emperor was different. She did not like the implications that her daughter was bright like Him. She didn’t know what it meant, but she understood it to be the source of much agony in the future for her little one. She looked upon the Emperor of Mankind and saw something that may have once been a man, but was no longer. She wondered if perhaps Lilith would end up like Him one day. She hoped not. And then this….creature demanded her child be killed for the crime of being born. Amara would not stand for that and offered herself instead. 

The Emperor took her offer and was going to simply kill her child afterwards, but found Himself quite unable. Not because she was like Him, no that would not be found for many years yet. No, He found Himself literally unable to even lift a finger against the girl. It was as if the warp itself was intervening and forcing Him to keep his word. How could one mortal woman stop Him so? But then she’d been a strange psyker. This planet was strange, it birthed strange things, He assumed this was merely another faucet of this Death World. 

He would later come to learn with horror that the woman had been able to see souls.

The trees lumbered across the field.

It was a weird thing to watch. When a tree settled to rest or sniff at an interesting crocus, she could almost believe that it had been rooted to the spot for years; then the huge body would raise up on spidery roots and trundle forward with stupid placidity to follow the herd. When they all had settled to rest in the morning light, it was like the field had been turned into a misty woodland in seconds.

A sapling bounded up to her and sniffed at her wrist before bounding off again, spindly roots kicking with delight.

"It's pretty simple work," said the farmer. "We let them out to get some fresh air and sunlight, check them for blight. Every so often we have to lay out some manure, but that's pretty much it."

She watched the sapling. It stumbled on its own limbs and limped into the shade of its mother.

"It's pretty similar to raising cattle," said the farmer. "We raise them up for a couple years, and when they get big enough we take them down to the slaughterhouse and have them butchered."

"Wouldn't you send them to a logging mill or something?"

"Nope."

A chickadee whirred through the air and lighted onto a branch.

"There's good money in it, too," said the farmer. "There's a lot of demand for certain cuts of tree meat."

"You mean wood?"

"Nope."

There was a blur of branches. The tree ate the chickadee.

I've seen a lot of people writing Danny as a space ancient and Dan and Dani as ghosts with moon and sun cores, being sort of parts, versions of Danny and therefore weaker. Now, consider: Dan and Dani are both powerful ghosts with really cool cores and stuff but Danny is just some guy™

Dan, who came from an alternate timeline and is kind of from the future but also not, is Clockwork's apprentice and will eventually become an ancient of time. He probably only agreed to have some lessons with Clockwork to understand better what happened to him, but he enjoys his apprenticeship now.

Dani, with her love of travelling, loves seeing all the different places the world offers to her, and that includes space and different planets and maybe even parallel universes, and she accidentally ends up being an apprentice of the space ancient. For now she's probably a baby ancient of freedom or something like that, but she might become an ancient of space in the future.

We can also have something like Dan having a core of destruction or Dani being the Speed Force if you want it to be dcxdp, or any headcanon of yours about their cool powers.

And then there's Danny. And yeah, everyone knows that he's super powerful, but also he's just some guy.

It can go different routes. Does everyone know that Danny is just Danny? Or do they think that with siblings (well, technically a clone and an alternate version, but whatever) so powerful, he must be even stronger? Is Danny actually something terrifyingly eldritch and ancient and strong, almost a god, but he just doesn't know himself? Or is he just really some guy?

Now, because it's obvious that I have a dcxdp brainrot, have a regular "JL summons/meets a powerful ghost" but its Dan and Dani, and they keep mentioning their original/brother who won a fight against them at some point. The JL is very concerned about Dan and Dani's godlike powers, and they can't imagine what Danny is like. And then they meet him (in his human form), and it's just a young adult in casual clothes, very friendly and helpful, with no evident powers. Imagine the confusion. Imagine Dan and Dani, radiating power, in their eldritch ghost forms, admitting that fighting Danny for real is the dumbest thing to do and not even they would succeed... And then there's Danny is jeans and silly t-shirt, waving shyly.

Just deleted the ask I was trying to respond to, but re: "skeptics always die in horror movies" - I have mixed feelings on that trope!

On the one hand I think it sets the tone and helps the audience suspend their disbelief - people are always complaining about horror movie characters being idiots, so this can be a way to be like "see? We DID consider rational explanations, and then someone immediately got murdered very supernaturally, so stop asking questions and accept the premise."

On the other hand, I think it definitely contributes to the idea that skeptics are close-minded killjoys who are too stubborn to accept reality, which is a very common and incredibly annoying mindset. Shane Madej did not spend the last eight years marching into haunted houses and loudly demanding that the demons inside kill him for me to still be hearing shit about how "if you don't take the supernatural seriously you will Attract Evil Energies And Die".
