I love that Shawn and Gus visibly stim so much in Psych. When they get new information or something good happens they start jumping up and down, they shake their hands, Shawn when he’s thinking puts his fingers to his forehead after doing it for the act for so long, Gus brushes his nose. They make me so happy I love seeing people that stim bold and silly like me
I love it in Psych episodes when Shawn realises Gus' life is in danger. He gets real serious and real violent and I love it.
There's Something About Mira when Shawn keeps demanding a gun.
Gus Walks Into a Bank when Shawn hurls himself through police officers with 0 plan just to get to him.
Yang 3 in 2D when Shawn says "You kill him, I kill you, you got it?"
I'm sure there are moments I missed as well. A fair bit of the show does play Shawn taking advantage of Gus for laughs (Gus pays all his bills) but the show never goes too far imo. And part of the beautiful mosaic of their best-friendship is these kinds of moments.
Shawn getting serious/going absolutely psycho when his loved ones were endangered was such a great thing they did. Like in Gus Walks Into a Bank, he was getting angry at being unable to take action to save Gus. THAT’s what i’m talking about !!! that episode being even more serious would’ve made it better tbh but it was great as it was.
or like in Santabarbaratown 2, which is truly I think probably my favorite or at least one of my favorite episodes. Shawn breaking that much glass and also pulling a gun was excellent. Perfection.
Idk i just think silly characters getting serious and angry abruptly when something happens is such a great trope
Another from the list of polls I've been wanting to start, this time about your favorite "Watson" or sidekick character in a detective or mystery related piece of media! They can be an adaptation of John Watson or an entirely different character who fills that role, so long as they have a Sherlock-type partner they work with to complete that dynamic.
I can't possibly cover every Watson type character, especially since Tumblr polls only give me 12 options, so I've filled out some on the top of my mind or ones that are more famous, and then there's the "Other" option to support any favorites not on the list.
There's several John Watson adaptations where he's pretty close to the book canon, so I haven't listed all separately here, mostly just ones where there's a more distinct change (modernization, etc.) or he has more focus.
Shawn and Gus' friendship is so solid. In the Lying Ryan episode (s3 ep 14 - around the 36 min mark) when Gus no longer wanted to trust Ryan, the way Shawn asks him to believe him is just so genuine, he knows exactly what's going on in Gus' mind... I truly love them.
"Okay, Gus, look I believe Ryan but I understand why you don't. I've maxxed you out in the blind faith department and that's fair. So, you don't have to believe him. Just keep believing in me. Come on, buddy!"
And Gus reverses the car to show that he does believe in Shawn.
Just a minute later, when the bad guys are shooting at them, Shawn tells him to get back to the hospital and that he'll hold them off.
Gus : Hold them off how ?
Shawn : I don't know, I'll think of something, I always do.
Gus : Shawn ?!
Shawn : Just get him out of here he's the one that has to make it!
Gus : I will kill you, Shawn.
Shawn : And I'll give you every opportunity to do that, buddy.
It's the little things like this where you truly see how deep their bond is and how much trust and faith goes into this relationship.
Gus was worried Shawn would get hurt but Shawn tells him to trust him (all while making sure Gus would be safe if he's away from the scene), and Gus does just that. The way Gus threatens to kill him is literally his way of saying 'i know you'll make it out' and Shawn's reply is him reassuring him that he WILL. I seriously just aboslutely love them.
Remember when Gus was trying to convince Shawn his dad loved him and Shawn said "How do you know?" and Gus was like "He never said it?" and Shawn seriously said "We're guys, Gus." because I do.
