My post from over a month ago where I ponder no news of Franklin Expedition wreck dives this year continues to get occasional notes, although I haven't bothered to update it since true Franklinheads are well aware that there IS a dive season this year (albeit with a late start).
The sites that will be explored are still somewhat of a mystery. Research Vessel David Thompson switched off her location beacon in the vicinity of the wreck sites (Logan Zachary theorised that she is headed for Erebus).
I understand why the location beacon was turned off (the wreck sites are off-limits and have local Inuit guardians), but it feels eerie. You go near the wreck sites and you fall off the map, outside of time and space.

whats the tea on kd leaving the warriors? i was a casual fan at the time it happened so i don't know the situation
well... let me be brief (1/278)
lmao jk but.... well a lot! and most of it is speculation, etcetc ofc we'll never truly know until 20 years later when the last dance-esque documentary comes out about the warriors in the steph curry era lmao-- but the story goes like this:
kevin durant was the superstar of okc thunder and was steadily building up the franchise over the years to become serious contenders for a championship. they were always close, but had never quite made it. but with a good FO/org behind him, westbrook by his side, they were always really close— but again, as we all know, it was never enough (made the finals in 2012. lost. would make the playoffs but always got defeated). in 2016, they once again get really close at the western conference finals where they led the series 3-1 against the warriors. despite that they lose. a mere month later, he joins the warriors: a team that's obviously at the beginning of a dynasty— they won a championship in 2015 and made it into the finals in 2016. but more importantly, the team that beat kevin durant and okc thunder at the conference finals.
there were layers to this "betrayal" and to this day people still think this one decision "ruined the sport" (lol). people saw it as a betrayal on KD's part and it took an incredible hit to his reputation. you almost make it to the finals, you have an incredible teammate in westbrook by your side, an org that supports you and is willing to uplift you to your highest star potential, and you leave? to join the team that BEAT you? to the team that has steph curry, klay thompson, draymond green, andre iguodala?
already a hugely successful team without KD, but with him, it was undeniable. a superteam. yeah, a lot of team has duos or trios. lebron and kyrie, lebron and dwade, harden and cp3, etcetc. but this team was different levels. a whole team full. the team was 73-9 without KD. massively talented already. but now? steph, KD, klay as offensive threats. draymond and andre as defensive threats. insanely good roleplayers like shaun livingston.
everyone was livid. not just OKC fans. everyone in the league! the warriors, and KD's name specifically was tarnished. how disrespectful for the warriors to even think about creating a team like this. how disrespectful for KD to leave an org that's done so much for him. sports media was tearing into them, fans were tearing into them, they were quite literally, the most hated north american sports team. fans were burning jerseys, making videos threatening KD, etc.
we all know how KD with the warriors went. winning fixes all, right? arguably the most dominant team in nba history (2017 warriors vs 1996 bulls a common debate to this day), the warriors absolutely dominated the nba, and went on to win the 2017 and 2018 championships. KD finally gets his two rings and a FMVP. and the warriors still stay the most hated team in the league. you either loved the warriors or hated them! no in between. the narrative is that KD's rings were called into question because he "had a superteam" so they weren't "valid".
2018-2019 is when it all kinda starts falling apart. the warriors are plagued with injuries, and it's just clear they don't have the synergy and chemistry that they did before. it was most clear during a game against the clippers where draymond and kd visibly fought after a bad play at the end where draymond refused to pass to kd. draymond had allegedly yelled at kd and told him to just leave the warriors, and that they didn't need him (kd's contract was up that year as well). KD has said in later years that that argument was kind of like the ~last straw for him and the nail in the coffin for him leaving. he had already been having feelings of being "the odd man out"— though they were winning together and had good synergy on court, the core3 plus the other players were already a tight knit family long before he had arrived. after the incident with draymond, the team never really sat down and talked about it: just brushed it under the rug (dray was suspended for one game but nothing was talked about). KD felt like it was a slap in the face, all this stuff about how gsw is known for good team chemistry and good culture but they just wanted to brush that very public incident under the rug? after that he started playing more selfishly— less like how they would play as a team and more in isolation. KD gets injured during the finals, and as we know, klay gets injured as well: we lose the finals. we don't get the sought after three-peat. KD signs with the brooklyn nets and the rest is history.
i talked a lot about the beginning of KD signing on to the warriors because i feel like that was really the root of why he left. he became one of the most hated players in north american sports. his own fans tore into him. sports media all tore into him. calling him mentally weak, pathetic, etc. and does winning fix all? i feel like KD with the warriors was proof that... it doesn't. KD gets two rings that he basically sold his soul to the devil for AND two FMVPs and people still don't respect him. on top of that he wins it with the warriors: which has always been and will always be Steph Curry's Team. yeah he was integral to those wins, but you can't compete with how steph has built the dynasty, yk? what steph has given to the warriors.
so at the end of the day, the story goes like this: KD "betrays" okc by going to the team who beat him in the conference finals, creates the first real "superteam" in the nba (the superteam discourse is a whole other thing smh like teams aren't trying to do that now but i digress). the whole sports world is going in on him, he's basically sold his soul for these rings. he gets his rings, he gets his FMVP. but his legacy and reputation is still called into question: he's integral but still won his rings and his FMVPs on STEPH CURRYs team, not his. Steph's. on top of all the outside noise, internally he's not happy either. he doesn't feel protected within the team. he has beef with draymond, and steph/klay + the franchise will clearly always have their loyalty to draymond. he doesn't buy into the team culture anymore, and he feels like the odd one out. the only thing that could make him stay would be to keep winning more rings. but the two rings he has didn't fix anything. so why stay? what does he have going for him?
(he goes on to bounce between different teams, tries to build his own superteams but never comes as close as he did. meanwhile steph klay and draymond go through a tough two years, considerably the lowest two years in the steph/core3 era, and come out on top: they win the '22 finals, against a celtics team that had an 84% chance of winning the finals. they save their dynasty, their legacy. steph proves that he won a chip BEFORE KD, during KD, and AFTER KD as well.)

Lulubelle (SWWSDJ Oc)
Tumblr media
Name: Lulubelle Shields-Thompson
Other persona: Jujubelle
Headcannon Voice Actor: Amanda Leighton
Relatives: Annabelle Shields-Thompson (mother); Rhett Shields-Thompson (stepfather); Abott Goneman(father-deceased)
Residence: Texas
Age: 6
Likes: Frozen yogurt; Pink lemonade; Dolls; Dresses; Princesses; Clowns; Her mother's approval; Kittens; Winning; Zaria;Sunny Day Jack; Getting dirty; Pink; Coloring & Drawing; Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; Shaun
Dislikes: Pageants (secretly); Losing; Spinach; Practicing rehearsals for long hours; Harsh criticism; Not being able to get dirty; Cigarettes; Thunderstorms; Her restrictive diet; Having her stuff taken away
Personality: On the surface she seems like any other regular girl who is growing up with her mother and stepfather, but underneath is truly a sad child who is going through emotional and mental abuse. She craves her mother and stepfather's love, but they only care that she wins pageants and always berate her when she loses. She attaches herself to Zaria, Shaun, and Jack (even though he's invisible to her) because they show the love she lacks from her parental figures. She also believes people love Jujubelle more because she loves pageants and not herself. She sometimes wishes she could be Jujubelle all the time. She really wants to be an artist instead of participating in pageants which her stepfather and mother always dismiss as just childish. She tries to always be cheerful and have a good attitude, but the pressure and abuse leaks out with everytime she shows her true feelings on the subject matter of what she really wants.
Background: A young girl who lives in the apartment next to Zaria who moved in recently with her mother and stepfather. Her mother has her frequently do pageants and is often training for them. However, despite being trained she secretly wants to be a regular kid and do regular stuff. Her mother then uses Zaria and Shaun as a way to babysit her when she and her husband doesn't have the time to look after her. She eventually also becomes acquainted with Jack who she treats as a imaginary friend since she can't see him but thinks he's real. Also due to the stress of the pageants taking their toll on her she developed a secondary personality named Jujubelle to help cope with the fact she doesn't like competing.
* Her interactions with Jack help bring back the child entertainer in him and start to care for the girl while softening himself from being a yandere.
* With the certain choices with how you interact, Lulubelle can let go of Jujubelle and be herself or fully embrace her to replace her birth personality.
* While they do restrict her diet, they give her highly sugared lemonade so that remain active in the pageants.
* Her mom is very restrictive about what she can eat in order so she can stay thin for contests.
* Her mom always threatens to take away her stuff if she doesn't do exactly how she wants to or feels she didn't do good enough.
* Frozen yogurt is only for when she wins. She is actually happy when she hears Zaria works at a frozen yogurt place.
* Her mother doesn't allow her to get dirty so she doesn't mess up her good clothes.
* Her stepfather frequently smokes around her.
* She is based on Leanne Platter from King Of The Hill.
* Her parents were never married and Abbot died in a workplace accident soon after Lulubelle was born.
* Her second personality to cope with the abuse put by her mother is based on Carley from Toddlers & Tiaras.
* Her stepfather isn't close to her and just wants to exploit her as much as her mother. And often finds her annoying when has to interact with her and doesn't give a hoot he smokes in front of her. He also harshly berates her whenever he feels she's out of line and if she doesn't comply with anything to do training for peasants.
* Her mother often tells her stuff like she should be grateful she wasn't aborted whenever she thinks she's out of line or objects to practicing.
* She's really scared of thunderstorms but due to her mother and stepfather's lack of care they often berate her for expressing that fear.
* She is very close with Moonpie which would motivate her even more to want a cat.
* In the good routes she eventually moves in with other relatives for her own good.
* She secretly wants to be an artist.

Our world now
We live in a world in which reality and fantasy co-exist and at times you can’t tell one from the other. Truth or narrative? You decide. How do you navigate in this world of Tweedledum and Tweedledee? Don’t appear clever; appear stupid and do not share how you really feel or what you believe with anyone. If you have one two or three genuine friends, count yourself lucky.
People are feeling more and more that we are entering a period of the government running the country as a police state. Facial recognition will eventually be handed over to AI and possibly, in the future, robots, who have the legal and physical power to apprehend you.
Privacy will be a thing of the past. Not only will the authorities freely have access to most of your information, but it may fall into the hands if private businesses and or criminal organisations. Even bank details may become non-private and I can see when fines are dealt with automatically - in other words the authorities will have access to your bank details and be able to directly take money from your account.
Facial ‘recognition’ or more
Accurately similar approximation will be used to apprehend innocent people and ban them from town centres, etc. there are 500,000 facial recognition cameras in London alone. Some if this information can be commoditised and monetised.
One of the most failing and corrupt police forces, the MPS has a Director of Intelligence Lindsay Chiswick who is deeply involved with facial recognition and AI. There has been a very serious breach in the case of Shaun Thompson, a member of the Street Fathers organisation who do excellent outreach work to deter young people from pathways to crime and violence, who was erroneously stopped and detained on account of a facial recognition app being used by the MPS identifying him as a wanted person. Because the incident was separately filmed by an investigator, Shaun is now taking the MPS to court. Incidentally, Lindsay Chiswick advised the investigator NOT to film such incidents saying it could be a breach of privacy. How ironic!
Ability to complain and demonstrate against the government and jts handling of various social issues, has been since severely compromised due to the current government response to demonstrations and political aligned comments on social media. In other words the current government has moved to criminalise demonstrations and comments on social media using the justice system in a very draconian manner and imposing, disproportionate punishments for these so-called crimes.

Civil liberties campaigners have said that a proposal made by Keir Starmer on Thursday to expand the use of live facial recognition technology would amount to the effective introduction of a national ID card system based on people’s faces.
Silkie Carlo, the director of Big Brother Watch, said it was ironic the new prime minister was suggesting a greater use of facial matching on the same day that an EU-wide law largely banning real-time surveillance technology came into force.
“Expanding live facial recognition means millions of innocent Britons being subjected to automated ID checks,” said Carlo. “These are the surveillance tactics of China and Russia and Starmer seems ignorant of the civil liberties implications.”
Live facial recognition has, until now, largely been used in the UK by the Metropolitan police and South Wales police, as a real-time aid to help officers to detect and prevent crime, including at public events such as last year’s coronation. It is capable of scanning more than 100 faces a minute for identification.
But on Thursday, Starmer suggested that it should be deployed more widely, in response to the violent disorder around the country after the stabbing and murder of three girls in Southport, Lancashire.
Promising to create a national police capability to tackle the rioting, the new prime minister said forces needed to work better together, sharing intelligence and engaging in a “wider deployment of facial recognition technology”.
Details were scant but immediately after, Starmer suggested that trouble-makers could be subject to “criminal behaviour orders to restrict their movements before they can even board a train” – implying a wider use of live facial recognition at transport hubs such as railway stations.
Daragh Murray, a senior lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, said: “There is a clear danger that in responding to a tragedy and public unrest we expand and entrench police surveillance without appropriate scrutiny. Given that the police have responded to disorder and riots for decades, why is facial recognition needed now?”
There is no specific law in the UK regulating the use of facial recognition software and as a result its implementation is broadly defined by police forces, which use it to locate missing persons and offenders, but also, the Met says, “people on a ‘watchlist’ who are sought by the police”.
The Met’s policy statement says those put on a watchlist include people “wanted by the courts”, people subject to court or bail restrictions – but also people “where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the individual depicted is about to commit an offence” in the future.
Campaigners say that such broad definitions could allow police to target legitimate protesters, not just people with violent intent. Facial recognition has been used at the British Grand Prix for the past two years, scanning hundreds of thousands, after Just Stop Oil protesters ran on to the track during the first lap of the Formula One in 2022.
There have also been concerns about the accuracy of live facial recognition, with black people more likely to be misidentified than other racial groups. The Met says it can retune the face matching algorithm to eliminate demographic discrepancies, but Big Brother Watch said doing so made it less effective overall.
In a ruling in 2020, a court found South Wales police had failed to properly investigate whether the software exhibited any race or gender bias. Police say there has been a “substantial improvement” in its accuracy, with Met-commissioned research suggesting the chance of a false match was now one in 6,000 people.
Big Brother Watch is bringing a legal challenge to the Met’s use of the technology alongside Shaun Thompson, an anti-knife-crime community worker, who says he was misidentified and wrongly detained at London Bridge station in February by officers who demanded he give his fingerprints to prove who said he was.
Earlier this year Met officials described the technology as a “gamechanger” and said that when the technology had been deployed, it had helped make one arrest every two hours.

Tyrone Thompson will get his first start of the season as a result as he packs down between Ross and Dyer. The only other change to the starting lineup comes in the back row, with Daniel Rona dropping to the bench, Etene Nanai-Seturo shifting out to the left wing, and Shaun Stevenson joining the 15 at fullback. Manaaki Selby-Rickit comes in on the bench as second row cover.

Sean Paul: Tiny Desk Concert Bobby Carter | May 31, 2024 The vibrancy that bounces off the screen while watching Sean Paul’s Tiny Desk concert is undeniable. Hearing his voice just a few feet away was an overwhelming experience, and I overheard a few NPR staffers in attendance who agreed. “He sounds just like the record!” they said, moving like nobody was watching. Admittedly, we don’t host enough dancehall artists at the Tiny Desk so there was an element of surprise at play. But the Jamaican superstar’s catalog boasts some of the world's biggest party anthems; it should've been a no-brainer when working with that. “This ain’t no Tiny Desk no more,” Paul said as he strutted to the Desk, preparing to turn the office into a bashment party. Paul took reggae and dancehall to new heights in the early 2000s. After hopping on any and every riddim for the clubs and dropping his debut, Stage One, the breakthrough came with his second album, Dutty Rock, in 2002. The global reach of that album shifted the music industry and everyone from the biggest pop star to the grimiest emcee needed the Sean Paul effect on their albums. For his set, the game plan was simple, all gas and no breaks; energetic hit after hit including “Gimme the Light”, “Get Busy,” “Like Glue” and topping things off with “Temperature.” SET LIST “Gimme the Light” “Get Busy” “Infiltrate” “I'm Still in Love With You” “Deport Them” “Like Glue” “Temperature” MUSICIANS Sean “Sean Paul” Henriques: lead vocals Nigel A.
