Y/N gets beaten up by her Dad. That’s why she stayed at Carls house. At first they’re just good friends but after a while they fell in love with each other and Carl gets more and more protective about Y/N.

This one is a little longer. Sorry for the wait. Also, those who have requested I am already starting to work on those. Don't worry, I will get those out eventually.

Although it was any other day, Y/N was usually safe when it was time to eat. Well, she thought she was.

Her dad ordered pizza and called her to come down to the kitchen. She was quick to pick up a slice and was about to start eating when her dad banged his hands down on the table. Y/N jumped up and stood on her feet. 

“Y/N, they forgot our fucking bread sticks!”

“Dad, I-”

“I should get what I paid for! Call them back!”

“I don’t think they’ll come back even if they had them at all.” 

Her dad looked at his receipt before throwing the phone at her, and it hit her chest, and he stated, “Call them back. I’ll have what I ordered.” She nodded and replied, “I-Okay.” 

As she was on the phone, she was quick to understand that her dad wasn’t going to get everything he wanted that day. Y/N put down the phone with a shaky hand. She’s about to make a break for it until there’s her dad’s right hook coming her way. It was something she never really got used to; however, something was different that night as she saw her dad coming back around. Instead of running or taking it like usual, she found none other than Carl's movements and voice in her head as she instivielvy shot her leg out to kick him, which knocked him back. Her legs moved before her thoughts could because her body knew to get out of there. 

Although out of danger, she was struggling to feel alright as she made her way to Carl’s house; however, she doubted Carl would want to talk to her anyway. They’ve been some distance apart from each other due to her father. Her dad didn’t like Carl around her, and she was keeping her distance to get in the good graces of her father, so he’d let her go out again. Regardless, she only felt safe to go to one place. 

Carl opened the door, and her face came into the light. A bruise formed on her cheek. 

She admitted, “Carl-I-I’m sorry I haven’t been seeing you. I don’t even know if you want to see me right now?”

“Who the fuck did that?!” It’s his initial reaction, but he notices her step back from him; it caused him to calm himself. The next time he speaks, he softly says, “Sorry.” She nods at him. “I don’t care about that alright. You're hurt. Come inside.”

When they get inside, they get to Carl’s room. Carl wraps as many blankets as he can find around her as it was a cold and dark night by then. 

Suddenly, he notes,“So, this is why you’ve been avoiding me.” “Avoiding? No…umm, my Dad wouldn’t let me see you.”

“What is that fuckery? I have never done anything to him or you.” Y/N can’t help laughing at the words, but she is quick to try and cover it up with her hand. He removes her hand and admits, “Hey, you never have to hide yourself from me in any way. Now, who did this? Not going to lie to you. When I find them, I’m powning some ass.”

”Carl, just leave it.”

“You shouldn't have to. The other person didn’t leave it.”

“It was my Dad...”

“So, he doens’t get a fucking pass.”

“No-I-Just…” She stops speaking, not knowing what to say. It hurts him to see her holding back from him so much and says, “I’m sorry. Look, I can leave it for now. Do you want me to go to your house for some clothes? I’m letting you stay here as long as you need alright.”

“You’re really going to let me stay here? Just like that?”

“Don’t ask dumb questions. You're my best friend.”

“I-Right. For now, I’m good. Maybe tomorrow.”

“Hungry?”

“Not really?” Her stomach protested her words right after. 

“Y/N…”

“I’m just digesting.”

“Am I going to have to shove the pizza I’m going to order down your throat?”

“Carl.”

“Y/N.” He copied as they whined; then, they both laughed out.

“Fine. I’ll let you eat. You better know my order.”

“Yeah.yeah.”

After eating, the sleepiness hit, and she couldn’t help yawn. Carl handed her the biggest shirt she’d ever seen.

She quickly asked, “What is this?”

“I want you to be comfortable.”

“I-Thanks.”

“No problem. I’ll let you change.” Carl stepped out of the room. They sat in the room feeling out of place like it was the first time. Y/N sighed before quickly changing into the long over sized shirt. Carl knocked on the door hollering, “You done?”

“Yeah.” He came in and handed her a toothbrush before saying, “You lucky that was the last one.” Y/N nods and brushes their teeth before heading back into the room.

Immediately, Carl voiced, “Now, pick a side of the bed.” Y/N choose the wall as it would be less bothersome for him. Surprisingly, even after the night she had, she was able to find sleep. 

Some time during the night, she turned toward Carl and ended up grabbing on his shirt roughly, which woke him up. He looked over to see her breathing heavy with a grimace on her face. He shook her awake, and she jolted into a sitting position. He grabbed her shoulder and cooed, “It’s okay.”

“But…My dad…” He patted her hair softly and slowly coaxed her into laying back down with him. Her breathing slowly slowly, and he commented, “Y/N, I won't let him hurt you ever again. If I can help it, you wont get hurt again.” At the time, they didn’t realize how far he took those words.

Y/N had stayed there for a good while after that. They’d already gotten their clothes from their house with the help of Carl and his family.

Then, Y/N was quickly to find an okay job, and Carl would watch over them there. In fact, he looked after Y/N just about everywhere they went. Y/N had noticed it, but it went too far one day at school. 

As it was, it seemed Carl wouldn't let any boys near Y/N. However, one day Carl was called to the office towards the end of class, and Y/N was left waiting in the halls for him. Y/N was sitting on the bench near the office when someone sat next to them. Y/N looked to see it was just a boy in one of their classes. He smiled at Y/N, and Y/N gave one back.

He spoke out to say, “Y/N, right?”

“Yeah. What’s up?”

“I just realized I can’t help looking at you in class.”

Y/N gave him a weird look and answered, “Okay?”

“You’re pretty good looking. Are you dating anyone?”

”I do not, but-” 

She couldn't help thinking of Carl. Even if they could never be, she can’t just date when her heart isn’t in it.”

“Would you like to go on a date? I can make it worth your while.” His hand just touches a strand of her hair before Carl tackles him to the ground. Carl’s fist raising and hitting him in the face. Y/N left dumbfounded, but she was quick to pull Carl roughly off of the guy and dragged him outside the building before he got into even more trouble. 

Y/N shoved him all the way to the back of the school building. 

“Carl, what the hell?”

“What do you mean!? He puts his hands on you!”

“He touched like one piece of my hair, and you went psycho over that.”

“I’m just protecting you!”

“Well stop!” He was taken aback by the tone. Y/N closed their eyes before muttering, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I’m just mad…not at you…at me.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I didn’t mean to do this. I’m sorry.”

“Do what?”

“Burden you like this.”

“What?”

“Now, you're constantly worrying about me.”

“Don’t apologize. I just want you to be okay, and I mean by all means necessary.”

“Carl, you don’t have to. I am really grateful for these past few months. I’ve felt so free and safe, which is why I’m able to admit that I can’t do this to you anymore and I’m going.” Y/N goes to walk away, but Carl goes right in front of them.

“I do have to. I have a duty as your friend but now the stakes are even higher because…I like you know…actually I love you.” He grabbed their cheek gently and leaned in before pecking their lips. Softly, he said, “I know I’ve been really protective lately. I couldn’t help it. I made you a promise to make sure you weren’t hurt again...”

“Carl-”

“I know I’m not the easiest person to deal with, but you’ve stayed there at my side. How could I not have gotten these feelings sooner? Either way, the feelings are here now. I don’t want to keep creeps away from you as friends anymore. I want to care for you deeper, but I just don’t know if you want that.”

“Carl…I love you too. I just didn’t think you felt the same way.” 

“Well, it’s settled. You're not going anywhere, and we can be together…Right?”

“Right.” He smiled widely before pulling Y/N into a firm hug. Y/N's hand touching his hair. He gave them a small space before they kissed again; however, Y/N were able to put their all this time as they kissed back.

Carl was getting to my he diner late as usual even with the standing goal to get there in time to see her. 

He bursts through the door to see that she’d already made it to work. He was in the process of waving at her when their manager bumped into him, and the manager stated, “You’re late.”

Carl shook his head and explained, “Don’t think so. I got here before you. I would call that on time.” 

“Oh really? I got something for you.” The manger flicks Carl off with a smile before walking off.

Carl's response was, “Dickhead.“ 

Carl clocked in and went in to wash the few dishes already in the sink; however, it became clear to him quickly that it was a slow morning. 

He looked at the floors and tables spotlessly clean. He thought about how she was the only one that cared enough to do the actual job. Her eyes were quick to find her sitting down and admire her as she sat watching the sun illuminate her. The cashier walked past him, and she commented, “Take a picture. It’ll last longer.”  

“Oh shut up. You wish you could be that beautiful.”

The cashier gasped and retorted, “You ass.”

“Hey, I’m the one minding my business; you came up to me.”

“You’re terrible.”

“Well, you're ugly so who won?” He shrugs and laughs slightly at her. 

She replied in mutters; however, she was quick to walk away after Carl gave her a taunting wave and the words, “Bye.” 

Carl's eyes fall back onto her, and she's rubbing at her eyes softly and blinking aggressively. He looked at the coffee pot on the counter and made his way over. He asks a question he already knows the answer to, “Tired?” He lifts the coffee pot in the air and turns the cup over. 

She responds with a small smile to answer, “Yes, actually. Thank you.” 

He puts the coffee pot back where it’s supposed to, and he sits in the both across from you. He nervously moved his thumbs back and forth on each other, and he struggled to find words, “So…Umm…” There was a small silence as you finished preparing your coffee how you like and asking, “How did you spend your day off yesterday?”

“Yesterday? Well, just the usual family is crazy. Really nothing much though.“

“Everything okay?” He smiles at the question and nods before asking

“What about you? I mean what do you do for fun.”

“Well, these days I’m not too sure. I actually picked up a shift yesterday actually.”

“Why?”

“They said they needed someone. So I came in.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“I didn’t have anything to do anyway. I actually asked them to switch my schedule, so they don’t have to keep calling me.”

“Your switching days?”

“Yeah. Switching my Wednesday for a Tuesday. It works better that way for me. I can have all day off of nothing.”

“Wow-Well, if your not doing anything-We cou-” 

The manager smiles smug as he walks over and states in an upbeat tone, “Carl, get back to the back work. Do your fucking job?”

“You-”

The manager looks at you and says, “Y/N a pleasure. I could just eat you up.“

Carl looks to see how she hunches over. The reaction and situation makes his hands ball up. Quickly, he says, “Fuck off!” 

The manager opens his mouth before closing it. He walked off because Carl’s gaze and balled fists sent too many alerts through him. Carl gave a smile to Y/N, which she returned. After that, Carl went back to work to take away from the anger the interaction gave him.  

The diner got slightly more busy, so the other dishwasher and Carl were working together to get it down. While Carl was washing some dishes, he overhears the other dishwasher say, “Yesterday was busy. You know Sal doesn’t even do too much work. Even with that, I have too much going on on Tuesdays. I doubt Manger. Fucktard would let me switch.” 

Carl finished up his pile and went over and offered to switch Tuesdays. “Really? Man, I thought you were a son of a bitch, but you're alright.”

“Me son of a bitch? Don’t make me regret switching with you now. Mind giving me Thursdays. You can take my Friday.”

“Sure. No problem. I’ll let the boss know.” Carl waved him off with a smile and continued to work. He’d have the same schedule as you for the weeks to come, and he couldn’t wait. 

Soon enough, the morning shift was over, and it was time to go. Carl rushed to get ready to go, so he could catch you. You're always too quick and he misses you. Despite the effort not resulting in what he wanted, he still smiled knowing he’d get to see you tomorrow.

It was evening shift this time on that Thursday, and he came in a bit late as he walked toward the dinner. Luckily, you were just getting there too. He smiled and said, “You're not early?”

She shook her head and said, “Night Shift is always worse, so I take my time getting here. Hopefully it ends soon…you don’t work today? Are you covering for someone?” He felt himself warm inside knowing that she did notice him. He could have sworn he answered but only in his head. “Carl?”

“Oh sorry I thought I answered you.”

“Only in your head huh. It’s okay it happens.”

“Actually my schedule changed too.”

“Oh…you didn’t say anything the last time we talked.”

“Oh that?…Manager fucktard interrupted our conversation.”

“Manager fucktard?” She bursted out laughing full heartedly and called his whole body warmed at the sound. He wanted to hear it again; he got what he wanted as he seriously said, “Yeah. Fucktard.” 

“Oh that’s good.” He smiled at her and laughed nervously along with her. 

They made it to work and the shit show began. Carl actually didn’t realize what he’d gotten himself into. He’s never worked the night shift. Hectic and stressful but he remembered why he did it. Catching glances of her making it worthwhile and filling him with energy. Working even faster at work.

When things were winding down, it all took a turn for the worst. Y/N was stuck with a group of boys to wait on. 

Immediately, one commented, “Nice ass.” 

Y/N gasped out before trying to play it off and get it over with and questioned, “What can I get you all?”

Another replied, “How about your number?” 

“You all need a few minutes. No problem. I’ll be right back.”

“Thanks for the view.” Y/N shook her head heading to her other tables until she went up to her manager, who sat at a counter.

I’m done with your table.” Y/N goes to walk away before one of the boys grabs her wrist. “Don’t touch-” Y/N doesn’t have to finish the sentence before Carl is jumping over the counter, removing his hand with a strong grip. He tackled the boy to the ground pounding his fists down. The other boys started to get up. Y/N stopped at least two from getting up as she kicked them back into the booth and used her order book to hit anywhere she could. Honestly, those boys never had a chance. Carl was livid for your treatment. Soon the manager was up and pulled Carl off of one of the boys. He pushed Carl toward you and yelled, “You’re Fired Gallagher!” Y/N looked over to Carl before she strides over to the manager not caring about the bodies on the ground and punching the manager square in the face. “Fucktard! “Me? I’m fine. Are you?” He grabbed your hands gently, and you both stopped walking. You stayed silent, and he continued to speak, ”The fact that you have to deal with assholes like that-It’s so fucked. I’m angry for you.” 

“Is that why you did that back there?”

“That? I mean yeah…”

“Oh.”

“But, not just that. I don’t know if you noticed I hate everyone there.”

“I’ve noticed. Spouting your swears left and right.”

“I hate everyone but you.”

“I-Thanks?” Carl moved his hands from reviewing your hands to holding them. His breath hitched slightly before he smiled and said, Y/N…I have big feelings for you. I couldn’t stand the way they treated you in there, and I lost it…Anyway, I’ve been trying to gain so much courage to ask you out, but lose the nerve or get interrupted every time. “You need that much courage just to ask me out even though you just fought all those guys with no fear?”

“Pretty much.”

“I-” Y/N held his hands back before leaning forward and kissing his lips softly. Carl leaned forward trying to catch your lips pulling away as he was fully enveloped in bliss. You laughed at his reaction, and he laughed at himself too. “I-Carl…I hope you realize not anyone just does what you did. I thought you were really cute, don’t worry…You’re not the only one. “As long as my schedule matches yours, I really don’t care where we work. Uh-” He scratches the back of his head softly and asks, “Can I kiss you again? I really liked it.
