Giselle Serval Snoozing - ANIMAL FACTS: Thanks to its extra-long legs, stretched-out neck, and huge ears, the serval is sometimes called the “cat of spare parts.” (If a person had ears like a serval's, they'd be as big as dinner plates!) But put together, their bizarre-looking body parts make these cats really successful hunters.

ANIMAL FACTS: Servals do not have true stripes; however, the larger spots on their fur can blend together to create a pattern resembling stripes. This characteristic makes it difficult to spot a serval in tall grass.

DOB: December 1, 2015

Sex: Female

Arrival Date: July 1, 2016

Rescue Story: Giselle was originally purchased from a breeder in New York and brought to Arkansas as a pet. She had been spayed and also had her front claws removed. During her recovery, she ran into complications and was spending a lot of time at the vet. She somehow broke one of her back legs shortly after returning to her owner’s care. One of the pet food reps at the vet noticed her complications and, with the help of staff, convinced the owner to relinquish her to a facility. One week later, we arrived and picked Giselle up.

More about Giselle: Giselle enjoys napping in the sunshine or underneath a platform. She loves to stalk and chase unsuspecting bugs in the grass and will pounce on them throughout her habitat. You can also catch Giselle pouncing in her leaf piles in the fall months.

Good Morning Ginger Serval - Servals are found in well-watered savannah long-grass environments, and are associated with reed beds and other riparian vegetation types. They occupy a variety of habitats all associated with water sources, they range up into alpine grasslands and can penetrate deep dense forests along waterways and through grassy patches, but are absent from rain forests. They will make use of arid areas in extreme instances, and have occasionally done so in parts of south-western Africa..
