Day 7 Iberian Lynx. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. The Iberian Lynx's habitat ranged from Mediterranean scrublands, oak and cork oak forests, and grasslands in the Iberian Peninsula in Southern Spain. These lynx were the world most endangered feline species in 2019 with only 400 estimated in the wild. In 2024 this number has increased to more than 2000. Did you know? The Iberian lynx weighs about half as much as the Eurasian Species! They also have a very charismatic beard around their face!

Febroary Day 6 Jaguarundi. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. The Jaguarundi is marked as both, least concern and endangered in some regions. They are least concern in Argentina and Nicarague, where as in Mexico and Guatemala they are Threathened, and in brazil the Jaguarundi's status is vulnerable. The Jaguarundi has several colour morphs of Gray and Red. It's long slender body gives them a weasel-like appearance and with their small flat head and low lying ears it gives them the face of an otter, one of the nicknames is therefore otter cat. Did you know? Jaguarundi have spotted fur when they are born. When a kitten reaches 3 months old these will fade away.

Febroary Day 5 Clouded Leopard. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. The Clouded Leopard is considered vulnerable with it's population decreasing. It is reported that there are fewer than 10.000 in the wild. Did you know? That the Clouded Leopard can open it's jaw wider than any other cat and that it's tooth development is most like that of the extinct Saber-toothed cat! Their Canine teeth are the same size as a tiger which is 10 times larger in body size!

Febroary Day 4 Melanism. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. (Slightly delayed, Melanistic cats are always tricky! Also not my greatest rocks! But always leave some room for improvement, right! :) ) Melanism is an increased amount of black or nearly black pigmentation in an organisms skin, feathers or hair. I figured I draw some Serval to spice up the usual Black Panther which is most commonly picked as a subject to draw when thinking about a melansitic wild cat. Did you know? That Serval kittens start out with baby teeth! It takes about 6 months for them to develop their permanent canine teeth. During that time their mother will hunt and care for them.

Febroary Day 3 Snow Leopard. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. The Snow Leopard live in the mountains of Central Asia and there are roughly around 4000 to a little over 6000 left in he wild, they are listed as a vulnerable. Did you know? That they can cover a distance of a marathon (25 miles) in a single night!

Febroary Day 2 Fishing Cat. (2025) What is Febroary? Febroary is an art challenge where the goal is to draw wild cats, big and small, every day for the duration of the month February. Both as a fun exercise and to draw awareness to these beautiful animals. The Fishing cat originates from a South and Southeast Asia and are listed as a vulnerable species. Did you know? That the Fishing cat has partially webbed front toes and that their claws protrude slightly even when retracted, which is an adaptation for catching fish!

I have once again put together a list with a wide variety of wild cats of all sizes, as well as a few where you can decide your own wild cat to draw.

I know drawing a wild cat every day is a lot. So if you want to take your time feel free to do so! It is all about the fun of drawing Wild Cats and bringing awareness to them. Be it a sketch, a doodle, a painting or some other form of human creativity.

Febroary day 28 - Marbled cat!

The last wild cat is done! Took a little longer to finish the prompt list but I'm proud of finishing it!

Also thank you all for following me during this challenge and to those who participated, you are amazing! I enjoyed seeing all of your creations!

I have some plans for next Febroary which I hope to share at a later stage.

Febroary day 27 - Jaguar

Febroary day 26 - Jaguarundi

Here is my Jaguarundi! They have grey variants of their species but I decided to go for the red one to create a nice contrast.

Did you know? That unlike other neotropical cats they have 38 chromosomes instead of 36 which other small cats have. They also show several features seen in carnivorous mammals, like the otter and weasels!

Febroary day 25 - Cheetah

This one took a while, drawing the spots on all the cheetahs alone took me more than 3 hours.

Many of you probably know that the cheetah is the fastest land animal.

But did you know? That their face markings help them deflect the bright sun light, allowing them to see better during the day. These markings are called malar marks/stripes.

Another fun fact is that their tail act as a rudder to change direction quickly when chasing a prey.

They are also considered vulnerable which means they are at risk of extinction in the wild. The Asiatic cheetah only has a few dozen of them left and is critically endangered.

Febroary day 24 Canada lynx

The last Lynxes of the challenge! Surely quite the challenge they proved! Took some time to figure out how I could create their thick fur coat, they required a bit more than just brush strokes!
