8-bit Musical Legends
Gerard Way, Kurt Cobain and Liam Gallagher
A random mix I know, but it's a Sunday and I'm rather bored.
All in the 8 bit style of the Amiga classic Sensible Soccer.
Hope you all had a good weekend.

Sensible World of Soccer ‘96/’97 (PC)
Seems to be regarded as the height of a popular British game series which, as a US Amiga owner, I always saw mentioned in revered tones in my dwindling magazine but never encountered in the few stores carrying Amiga games in my major metropolitan area. Charming match presentation and appealingly simple controls, but your AI team mates are clueless about off-the-ball movement and no character short of a world-class striker can keep the ball at their feet while turning, or kick it past a goalie.
So, get a team with a world-class striker, ping-pong the ball up-field to them via lightning-fast tap passes--hoping your players happen to be lurking in roughly orthogonal positions--and fire a solo shot upon which the opposing team's goalie AI may or may not elect to pounce. Opposing team attempts same vs your goalie AI; repeat until whistle. A "90 minute" match shoots by in 4 minutes of real time.
The passing seems to be key but the very fleeting exchanges and heavy reliance upon one-note AI aren't encouraging of further practice. After a few hours vs the CPU, I could win if I played a world champion team vs a third-division team from a smaller country, so I guess I've pretty much mastered it. [_[
Career mode is handy for providing a succession of matches--I started by trying to work my way up in the Albanian league, which went very poorly--but aside from the matches--messy ping-pong affairs with very non-world-class players, in my case--it consisted mainly of swapping out injured players, a tedious and confusing chore I wish I could have opted to automate. Minimal feedback on player status is provided, with the game seeming to assume that you have memorized every shortcut key, abbreviation, and largely identical tiny player. I was a terrible coach.
The game is $2-6 from gog.com and runs in a 640x480 DOSBox screen. I couldn't get it to recognize my Windows-compatible Hori Real Arcade Pro V PS3/PS4 arcade stick, so I used the Windows 3rd-party "JoyToKey" utility to map the 4 movement keys and single action key to the stick, and that worked fine.

Console Sports Games of 1993 - Sensible Soccer European Champions
Sensible Soccer European Champions is an entry in the prolific football series from Sensible Software and is largely the same game as the 1992 released Sensible Soccer European Champions 92/93 Edition, with the fast-paced top-down football that is synonymous with the Sensible Soccer series.
The two major differences between the games are the removal of the custom teams from the 1992 release, as well as a change in developer, this port that was released on the Game Gear and Sega Master System was developed by Eurocom Developments and published by Sony Imagesoft. Sensible Soccer European Champions was released in the UK and other European countries in 1993.

Despite my deep affection for Sensible Soccer, I hesitated to upload this installment. Beyond the shared title and the nostalgic "Goal Scoring Superstar Hero" track, Sensible Soccer 2006 diverges significantly from the original game, particularly in terms of gameplay. It's not that the game is inherently bad, especially if you approach it without expecting a soccer simulation. However, in my sincere opinion, it falls short of deserving the same name as one of the greatest video games of all time.
My critique is not rooted in the failure to revive the classic gameplay or the perceived lack of efforts to modernize it. Even the comically oversized player heads you see in the cutscenes - which I actually find amusing - are not the issue. Rather, Sensible Soccer 2006 presents itself as a different game marred by notable flaws and an ostensibly useless new feature that only amplify frustration and undermine its longevity.
One major flaw lies in the shooting system, which seems to have gone awry during development. Despite numerous attempts, mastery remains elusive. The game, while relatively easy, introduces an oddity where, even in one-on-one situations against the goalkeeper, a straightforward shot often inexplicably veers off target or goes wide. This inherent flaw hampers the game's scoring potential and leads to moments of undeserved disappointment.
The fouling system is another sore point. While I acknowledge the game's departure from soccer simulation aspirations, the random bookings and foul-giving feel outdated for a 2006 release. Inconsistencies abound, with identical fouls by different players resulting in disparate outcomes. The arbitrary nature of the system, where clear fouls often go unpunished, disrupts the flow of the game and can be infuriating.
Adding to the list of issues is the introduction of the seemingly unnecessary sprint feature. Despite its inclusion in a 2006 context, the sprint button proves more of a hindrance than an asset. Utilizing it often results in immediate pursuit and tackles by opponents, undermining the potential benefits. Paradoxically, maintaining a normal pace allows for a more composed and strategic approach, fostering better chances for goal-scoring opportunities.
In conclusion, despite these drawbacks, I did find the game enjoyable. However, the mounting frustration during gameplay made me eagerly anticipate the end of each session. Were it not for these shortcomings, Sensible Soccer 2006 could have been a commendable homage to a legendary title. Instead, it falls short, leaving me to appreciate it as a flawed but entertaining diversion, overshadowed by the legacy of its iconic predecessor.

Back before the internet was widely used and available, Ceefax aka Teletext was an important source for up to date information.
The latest news and sports scores would be updated in real time, and I’d spend ages flicking through the pages.
The league tables, latest scores and transfer gossip was all available via this pixelated service.
I get nostalgic for really random things, and Teletext/Ceefax is one of them.  It’s hard to believe that now with all the information in the world at your fingertips, this was once the pinnacle of technology.
So, I recreated the sports scores page and used some fictional teams and players that you may recognise.

From tutor to rookie of the year
Hi, my name is Jake. My company has hired me to tutor a few students with poor grades. That's not necessarily the reason why I started working at the auditing company. But first of all, I'm new here and I'm not going to refuse right at the beginning of my career. And secondly, becoming a teacher had actually been an option for me. Maybe it's fate now or something.
Tumblr media
The first lesson gets off to a very promising start. I almost have to tear myself apart to leave your office and get to school on time. But when I arrive, there is a yawning emptiness in the classroom. Only after fifteen minutes I hear noise in the corridor and a couple of football jocks barge in the door. A few still in football gear. And all obviously unshowered after training. Phew, it stinks. And as I look into the handsome, square-cut faces of the boys spraying with testosterone, I'm suddenly back at school. The small, clever but shy boy who, at best, the stars of the football team overlook and, at worst, stuff into the toilet. I clear my throat and say that I'm not here for fun either and that I'm asking for some attention. The boys barely react. Damn it, it's not my problem. I explain a few linear algebra problems on the blackboard and ignore the paper airplanes. I have my school-leaving certificate. I have my master's degree. And my bonus doesn't depend on the grades of these idiots. At least I hope so.
After the debacle of the first tutoring session, my appetite for the second is very dampened. But it was already hard enough to get this internship. The firm is one of the most prestigious accountancy firms in the city. And if my pro bono job as an intern is tutoring the idiots on the football team twice a week, I'll survive. Apart from the 60 hours a week in which I have to pore over balance sheets, that doesn't matter any more.
These days, the musclemen are even on time. And somehow nicer than last time. They even ask me reasonably sensible questions like whether you can predict the trajectories of footballs. I take this as an opportunity to tell them something about vector calculus. They collapse with laughter. "Bro, I was joking. And football isn't math. Football is strength and speed." I'm about to take a breath and say something about Newton and the relationship between force and speed. But instead of listening to me, the jocks start bragging to each other about their heroic stories on the field. And I can't help but listen to them spellbound. When the lesson is over, I look after them with fascination. I wish I could have been more like them at school.
Tumblr media
Shit, because I'm the only nerd on the senior team who isn't a complete failure at sports, Coach made me give math tutoring to the football team. He thinks the Meatheads might have a little bit of respect for me. Shit! Them for me? I for them might be more correct! The thought of explaining math to my secret crush forms a wet spot in my Calvin Klein shorts.
I expected the boys to keep me waiting. If they were also punctual and disciplined off the pitch, they wouldn't need any help. And I don't want to tutor them any more than they want to be tutored. We reach a compromise. You listen to my math tutoring for half an hour. And then we'll go out onto the pitch for half an hour and play a bit of football. God knows I'm not unsportsmanlike. But soccer has somehow never been my sport. I'm more of a swimming pool or gym kind of guy. Team sports? Not really.
Tumblr media
Shit, yeah, I'm no rocket scientist in math. But I have quite good grades in English and history. I'm not going to fail this year. Why the fuck do I have to go to tutoring with the other bros from the football team? I have no idea. But seriously, the tutor is a total loser. A beanpole in a stuffy shirt. The idiot even wears a tie. Seriously, who wears a tie these days? If I had to wear a tie, I'd change jobs. Or if I had to shower after training. Shit, these are just rules that can come from old fat men. Bros like me and my bros smell like test… Testo… Well that hormone stuff. Sweat, musk and Axe. If I didn't have to go straight to detention again, I'd let the loser smell my armpits… But I'm a sophomore on the team right now. Let the juniors and seniors do that.
Tumblr media
"Jack, bro!" This is Chuck. The QB on the team. I can tell by his voice. And by his smell. And I'd also know it by the taste of his cheesy boner…. But he stays locked in his jockstrap cage right now. What a damn shame! "Bro, where were you in tutoring? The dean was there. You're in fucking trouble!" Shit, tutoring! I was at the gym. The other guys are all so pumped. I don't want to lag behind any longer. "Shit, dude, we said you were in the bathroom. The loser tutor didn't dare contradict us. But I think you have to let him suck you off so he doesn't tell on you." Hehehehehe, I like that idea. There are still 40 minutes until football practice… And I haven't cum yet today. "Is the loser still in the classroom?" I ask. Chuck nods. I fist bump him and say that I'll sort it out quickly.
Tumblr media
If Chuck and Matt go to college next year, I have a good chance to be the QB. But until then I still have to build up a lot of mass. Those two are just in a whole different league. And I'm damn jealous of the hair on Matt's chest. You should see the bush under his arms. Dude, the man is going to be a fucking gorilla! Shit, I'm not half the man those two are. You can tell immediately by the size of the bulge in our compression shorts. Nevertheless, neither of them mind if I fuck them. But they like fucking me even more. Without eye contact. Otherwise it would be totally homo!
Tumblr media
We skipped tutoring again today. Coch covers for us while we're in the gym or doing our laps on the cinder track outside. Nevertheless, it's still up in the air whether Chuck and Matt will be at college next year. And whether I'll be a junior by then. But screw it, NFL pros don't need to know math.

Console Sports Games of 1993 - Championship Soccer '94
Championship Soccer '94 more commonly known as Sensible Soccer or Sensible Soccer European Champions is a football (Soccer) sports game based on the 1992 Amiga and Atari title Sensible Soccer European Champions and retains the top-down fast-paced and frantic matches.
Championship Soccer '94 was released on the SNES, Genesis and Sega CD all in 1993 with releases in Europe for all three systems. A US release of the game on the Sega CD would follow in 1994.
As with the majority of the Sensible Soccer games, Championship Soccer '94 was developed by Sensible Software and published by Sony Imagesoft. In 2021 Championship Soccer '94 received a re-release for Browser and Antstream, both of these releases were the Genesis version of the game. both of these releases were published by Codemasters who acquired the rights in 1999.

These Itoshi brothers are going to be my end one day.
Tumblr media
Every time I'm like, "Yay, I made a sensible theory. I'll stick to it now," these two always whack me out of nowhere. It's like they love to go, "🗣️📢 HELL NAH❗HE-HE-HELL NAH❗"
Anyway, so I was re-reading Rin's part in the LN, and I realised something:
So, after Sae left for Spain, there was a visible decline in the performance of both Rin and their Soccer Youth Club. Rin says it's because he could see the goal path and stuffs, BUT his teammates couldn't and the only person who could match his vision was, of course, Sae.
That's why Rin had to change his playstyle to match that of the Team's. He began passing instead of waiting for a pass and all. Things starts to get better, and the whole team starts to get their glory days back.
There was a line in the LN which goes something like, "The teammates thought they were playing good, but they were actually just playing in strings of Rin's. Rin was controlling everything."
He then goes, "This is tough and Nii-chan was doing this all along? Nii-chan was holding back. That's why he chose to go to Spain, so he can play the way he wants."
See.
THIS
is exactly where my brain started to churn.
So, Sae was in that soccer club since way long, and he was legit considered as the pillar of it or something. However, all these years, he was, in fact, holding back himself and when he got to go to Spain, he thought like, "Yes! Finally! I can show the world what I got," but sadly, he found out he just wasn't it.
Maybe it could be because he played UNLIKE his real self for so long that he forgot himself.
OR
He just wasn't that good as he thought he was. He found out that he was the Frog in the well.
HOWEVER.
He still had Rin back home, and he trusted him because he knew about his younger brother's true potential or impulses.
So time passed and the day of the U-15 Championship Finals came.
Reminder: Sae was scouted by Real Madrid/Re Al when he won in the U-15 Championship alongside Rin. That's why it was really important for Rin to win that Final match too.
What I said above was a fact Sae, probably, knew too. That's why he came a whole day AHEAD of his schedule to watch the younger Itoshi play with his own eyes (Rin had pointed out that Sae was supposed to come a day after).
But, surprisingly, what Sae saw was what he feared— he saw Rin play the way he himself used to. He was probably like, "I sacrificed everything for you and you became exactly what I sacrificed myself for you to NOT be."
Reminder: Rin gets into his real flow state/becomes berserk during the LAST three minutes of the whole game.
Which gives us two possibilities:
Firstly, Sae just gets up and leave without seeing Rin's berserk mode. After which he comes back to confront him once the match is over.
Secondly, Sae stayed the whole match and saw Rin's berserk mode and was somewhat relieved to know that the younger Itoshi hadn't completely lost his true self. After which the confrontation proceeds.
I don't want to say much about their reunion in this post, but I do want to add another perspective to why Sae challenged Rin for a 1V1:
Sae, probably, had thought that, "I couldn't beat the world and if you can't even beat me, then you are nothing in this world."
That's it, I guess.
.
.
.
I really wish for a Itoshi brothers spin-off because it's hinted that they had a big shared room, so I really want to see how everything is like after Sae returns from Spain.
