Hikaru Shida Wrestles Last Match in Japan Before Moving To The US
Joshi wrestler Hikaru Shida who signed with All Elite Wrestling back in April wrestled her last show in Japan today before she moves to the US to start with All Elite Wrestling full-time.
Her last show was a self-produced show at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan which saw her wrestle in four different matches – losing only once to Mei Suruga in a singles match.
The show was main-evented by her & Syuri taking on Emi Sakura & Nanae Takahashi in a tag team match that went about 20 minutes. The match saw Shida and Syuri pick up the win.
She had two other tag matches on the show teaming with Yumi Ohka in one match and Aja Kong in another, both of which she scored the victory.
She is a one-time ICE×60 Champion and four-time International Ribbon Tag Team Champion. Outside of Ice Ribbon, Shida has held the WAVE Single Championship, the Oz Academy Tag Team Championship, and the Sendai Girls World Tag Team Championship.

The Princess Who Saves Herself
The enchanting Princess KimberLee first appeared on the CHIKARA radar in 2013, gracing the ring of our sister promotion, Wrestling Is Fun! Though she dabbled in singles competition during her brief tenure there, the Princess primarily accompanied the primary-color-clad tag team of “Knight Eye For the Pirate Guy”, comprised of Lance Steel, and Jolly Roger. She frequently took credit for any and all of the team’s success. In short order, Kim outgrew the humble confines of Wrestling is Fun!
And so, Princess KimberLee made her proper CHIKARA debut as one-third of Knight Eye For the Pirate Guy in 2014, at the massive King of Trios tournament. Her team lost in the opening round to GEKIDO (made up of the imposter 17, Jigsaw and The Shard,) but the Princess proved that she was no damsel in distress. More than either of her teammates, she took the fight directly to the GEKIDO, never taking a back-step or shortcut.
Slowly amassing more and more impressive wins, Princess KimberLee built her reputation through the Young Lions Cup XI, and then at our celebration of National Pro Wrestling Day 2015. As the gigantic, double round-robin “Challenge of the Immortals” emerged on the horizon, KimberLee was one of dozens of wrestlers that vied to be chosen as a team captain, and despite being a relative newcomer when compared to long-tenured veterans like Hallowicked and Fire Ant, Princess KimberLee was chosen.
Each "Challenge of the Immortals" squad would consist of four members - a team captain plus three handpicked partners. The draft for the tournament took place online, and in each round, KimberLee chose last, often leaving her with a diminished pool of options. With many of the most-proven performers plucked from availability, the Princess ended up with the unlikely combination of perennial losers Los Ice Creams with the time-displaced Jervis Cottonbelly. Dubbing them "Crown and Court," KimberLee set her sights on the tournament prize: a Golden Opportunity for every member of the team, and immortalization in the halls of The Wrestle Factory.
In the early going of “Challenge of the Immortals,” the clear underdogs were Kim's "Crown and Court" quartet, and for months, could not manage to post a win. Just a match away from being mathematically eliminated from the tournament, the Princess took it upon herself to inspire Los Ice Creams, and sang to them as a stunned audience looked on. The team embraced, and this pivotal moment sparked a turning of the tide. After enduring a long losing streak, "Crown and Court" started posting up points, hot off three consecutive upset wins over teams that were more heavily-favored to win the round-robin. As the tournament drew to a close, "Crown and Court" improved their place in the standings dramatically, finishing in Third Place, just one position shy of a berth in the finals.
Fate, or more accurately, fair play, intervened before the tournament reached its climax. Point-leading quartet "Dasher's Dugout" forfeit their points at the insistence of team captain Dasher Hatfield; he discovered that at least some of his team's wins were the result of cheating, and because it was not clear how many of his wins were "tainted" he chose to forfeit them all. Thusly, the Third Place team of "Crown and Court" found themselves inserted into the tournament final of "Challenge of the Immortals."
All eyes were on CHIKARA’s Season 15 Finale event called “Top Banana,” held at the ECW Arena in south Philadelphia. There, "Crown and Court" survived an onslaught from Sidney Bakabella's hulking foursome, "The Wrecking Crew" and in the final moments, they mounted a nigh-unthinkable comeback. To those that were witness to the "Challenge of the Immortals" final, the sight of Princess KimberLee tossing men twice her size, with one German Suplex after another, will remain eternally etched in our memories as a genuine, star-making moment. Victorious over the brawn and brute strength of "The Wrecking Crew," KimberLee and her comrades-in-arms were each presented with a Golden Opportunity, to use where and when they wished. Later on that same night, “Top Banana” would feature then-Grand Champion Hallowicked defending the title against both Icarus and Eddie Kingston. After Hallowicked proved his dominance by retaining the belt, an emboldened Princess would march down the aisle, hand her Golden Opportunity to the referee, and cash in immediately. Mere moments later, KimberLee would author one of the most memorable tales in CHIKARA history, by applying the CHIKARA Special submission hold and forcing Hallowicked to both tap out, and relinquish the big, gold belt!
What made this title change so significant, was not just that it made Princess KimberLee the first female Grand Champion of CHIKARA, but the first female wrestler to hold the top title of what many considered to be a "male-dominated" organization. (There is no division by gender, nor by weight class at CHIKARA.) As guaranteed, her team was immortalized with a regal banner that hangs to this day in the halls of The Wrestle Factory. Kim then went on to defend and retain the Grand Championship over the course of the following five months, defeating the likes of Oleg the Usurper and Heidi Lovelace (now better known as WWE’s Ruby Riott) before losing the championship back to Hallowicked in Glasgow, Scotland at "Aniversario: The Lost World."
Following her title loss, Princess KimberLee went on to have a successful year in her new role as a leader in CHIKARA. She continued a friendly rivalry with Heidi Lovelace up until King of Trios 2016. For this run in the tournament, the Princess formed the "Warriors Three," recruiting Oleg the Usurper and the Estonian ThunderFrog as teammates. Together, "Warriors Three" made it to the semi-finals of the tournament, first defeating Team CWC (Johnny Gargano, Cedric Alexander and Drew Gulak) as well as a trio representing the "Original Divas Revolution" (Mickie James, Jazz and Victoria) before finally facing elimination at the hands of Meiko Satomura and her "Team Sendai Girls" (featuring DASH Chisako and Cassandra Miyagi.)
Season 17 saw the Princess haunted by ghosts of her past, and subject to manipulation at the hands of a mysterious interloper. She went on to defeat supposed friends Fire Ant and Solo Darling in grim and violent fashion, before taking a loss to Ophidian. As the season came to a close, it was revealed that the Princess’ sudden shift in behavior was the result of being blackmailed by newcomer, The Whisper. The Whisper claimed to possess damaging information that would irrevocably taint KimberLee's squeaky-clean reputation. When KimberLee reneged on this arrangement by losing to Ophidian, she handed over her tiara to The Whisper, and made her exit from CHIKARA.
Exiled from CHIKARA under the threat of her secret being revealed, Princess KimberLee would find success in a new kingdom. She began making appearances on NXT's Florida circuit, even teaming again with old friend Lovelace (nee Riott,) until officially debuting in June of 2017 under the alias of "Abbey Laith." On July 13th, the Princess entered the Mae Young Classic, the first-ever women’s tournament held by World Wrestling Entertainment. Going into the tournament, Laith had an immediate advantage. Her inescapable pinning combination, the Alligator Clutch, had been passed down from Mildred Burke to tournament name-sake Mae Young, who taught the hold to Wrestle Factory head trainer Mike Quackenbush...who passed it on to Abbey Laith.
The Alligator Clutch would come in handy. After a stunning victory in the first round against Jazzy Gabert, in which Laith was once again the underdog that would overcome the odds, Laith used the Alligator Clutch to win and eliminate Rachel Evers in the second round. Laith advanced to the quarter-finals where her journey came to an end, eliminated by seasoned pro Mercedes Martinez.
Ditching her "Laith" moniker, Princess KimberLee made her grand return to CHIKARA on April 28th, 2018 at "Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes." There, the Princess announced she would enter the Infinite Gauntlet match. Despite a strong showing in the 33-person battle royal, (which included dumping CHIKARA’s resident menace Merlok on his head via German Suplex,) the Infinite Gauntlet match would ultimately be won by the debuting Danjerhawk.
Thereafter, the past she thought she’d buried came right back to haunt her, in the form of La Loteria Letal 2018. This unique tag team tournament randomly pairs up sixteen CHIKARA roster members and esteemed guests. The winning "odd couple" will have defeated three other duos throughout the tournament, thus earning three points (enough to challenge for Los Campeonatos de Parejas.) Princess KimberLee drew the unluckiest of partners: The Whisper.
Despite the Princess’ absolute disdain for her partner, these arch-enemies went on a rampage through the tournament. With the help of more than a few German Suplexes from the Princess, and Whisper’s use of a very familiar finisher, Lance Steel’s pet move the Boston Crab, Princess KimberLee and The Whisper won La Loteria Letal. With their wins and points, they were next in line to challenge The Closers, the powerful pairing of Sloan Caprice and Rick Roland, at the Season 19 Finale. In an effort to save herself from having to team further with The Whisper, KimberLee chose an opportune moment to launch The Whisper with a German Suplex, sending him sailing through the air, but he collided with, and ultimately landed atop, Sloan Caprice. With Caprice's shoulders both touching the mat, the referee counted three and awarded Los Campeonatos to The Whisper and a dubious Princess.
The odd pairing held on to the titles into the new year and Season 20, defending them against former campeones Crummels & Defarge at the Season 20 opener, National Pro Wrestling Day 2019. Despite all of the Princess’ attempts to sabotage their title run and end the partnership, every attempt backfired and she was forced to endure. KimberLee's feelings toward The Whisper were no secret: at "Once Upon a Beginning," Princess KimberLee challenged her championship partner to a one-on-one match. For the only time in CHIKARA history, the reigning Campeones de Parejas would do battle against one another. After nearly breaking the world record for Most German Suplexes In a Match, the Princess put The Whisper down for the count.
The champions continued to in-fight right up until CHIKARA’s "Fright Knight," where Princess KimberLee effectively threw the match, in a clever manner that prevented The Whisper from seeing her crafty play. This allowed their challengers F.I.S.T. (Travis Huckabee and Tony Deppen) to walk out of the Poconos with the two title belts. While KimberLee thought this would free her from further torment by The Whisper, she would receive a rude awakening just 4 weeks later at "Aniversario: The Apes of Wrath."
Ophidian’s clandestine group, revealed to be "The Crucible," comprised of a group of fighters that participated in an illicit, after-hours training program, made a bold move as the anniversary card closed. Physically attacking Princess KimberLee, The Whisper revealed that he had been blackmailing the Princess, pushing her out of CHIKARA and consistently attempting to ruin her career, because of how she had treated his older brother...Lance Steel. Since last being seen in a CHIKARA ring, Steel had acsended to the rank of "Jewel" within the cruel world of Ophidian's "Crucible." The Whisper asserted that the Princess had used Lance Steel as a literal stepping stone on her way to singles fame and the Grand Championship. Looking back on archival footage, there is evidence to support this claim. This physical attack, coupled with a verbal assault and ugly reckoning cast a dark shadow over the entire event.
Princess KimberLee had some time to consider her past actions and how to move forward. After a hard fought battle against Solo Darling at "Chikarasaurus Rex," The Crucible's self-appointed "Herald," Ophidian, took to the ring and made it clear to the Princess how to be forgiven for her past sins. Team with Lance Steel and make a path for his stardom, starting at King of Trios 2019. A sullen Princess agreed to this penance, and in joining Ophidian's trio, unknowingly took the place of The Whisper as a member of the threesome. In an effort to set old wrongs right, KimberLee must fight alongside Lance Steel once again.

Top 20 Female/Joshi Wrestlers of 2021 (Part 3)
Description: We're a long way away from the "Women's Revolution" and in some ways the treatment of female wrestling talent in the West has reverted back to the "Diva Era". In contrast, Joshi Wrestling at companies like STARDOM, has not only been able to stay afloat but grow during the pandemic. Not to be outdone though; the women's divisions of WWE, AEW, Impact & ROH still put up and good fight and overall made it a competitive year for women in Pro Wrestling.
12. Jordynne Grace-The Inaugural Digital Media Champion remains maybe the only female presence in Impact that not only generated a buzz in a deeper talent pool before women like Tessa Blanchard & Taya Valkyrie left but continues to keep all eyes on her as her popularity and interest from fans reaches outside of the company limits.
Thicc Momma Pump was having kind of a pedestrian year at the start of 2021 pursuing the tag titles with Rachael Ellering, but she made history when she became the first Digital Media Champion and the First Triple Crown Women's Champion in Impact. The championship is open weight and intergender, so she had to defeat women and men of all shapes and sizes to not only become champion but retain her title.
11. Meiko Satomura-Because STARDOM is the most recognizable all-Joshi promotion to the States, Satormura often gets overlooked, being the creator and owner of Sendai Girls. She's kind of like the "Mother of Pro Wrestling" in this era. She trained a lot of women including Joshi sensation, Chihiro Hashimoto and retired STARDOM bad girl, Kagetsu...she also re-trained Sasha Banks when she was on hiatus from WWE.
Today she's not only a wrestler/coach for NXT UK and a trainer in the London Performance Center but she's the current NXT UK Women's Champion. Joshi breeds a different level of female athletes and apparently WWE wanted to bring that to their company. Natalya Neidhart had a similar role for their main roster. She helped train a lot of her peers, but she also helps them polish up in the ring, working with them on the show.
10. Rhea Ripley-Rhea had her final match in NXT at New Years Evil in a last woman standing match against Raquel González. Those two found a chemistry in their similarities that was perhaps unmatched in that era of NXT, at least for the women's division. When she debuted on WWE Raw in February of 2021 she immediately challenged Asuka for her title at WrestleMania XXXVIII which Asuka accepted. Rhea didn't win the Royal Rumble but she didn't have to, we already expected her to be a top contender on whatever brand she was on, and she made her presence felt on day one. Rhea won the title at Mania to secure her spot as the parallel to the actual Royal Rumble winner, Bianca Belair on SmackDown.
She has been glued to the hip with Charlotte since she was in the Mae Young Classic because of their similar height, hair color and muscular build and even when she transitioned into "The Nightmare", WWE didn't let up on a rivalry between them. Only problem is they don't really know how to handle any feud with Charlotte Flair where she doesn't completely dominate her opponent so even when Charlotte was losing, it somehow felt like nothing was being accomplished. There's no real magic between these two and although they had some good matches, Rhea's momentum was kind of dragged down by Charlotte's interjection into her journey.
She did have a tag team title reign with Nikki A.S.H. before the new year but that also didn't really work as the idea seemed half baked. Rhea has a lot of potential to be a staple in this women's division but luckily for her she's young. She was only 24 in this position so imagine how much WWE can accomplish by the time she's 30 if they keep working on her.
9. Tam Nakano-The former J-Pop Idol, Yuria Tauchi debuted for Wonder Ring STARDOM in 2017 and made a big splash almost immediately. Entering into the world of Pro Wrestling, the insanely cute Tam Nakano put it all on the line working deathmatches for Atsushi Onita; showing that for someone so petite and adorable, she's not afraid of anything and has a rougher side to her. She worked her first match in July of 2016 and by that same time the following year she would have ambitions to enter STARDOM's 5★Grand Prix which is maybe the toughest women's tournament in the world. Women come from every continent to try and earn their stripes there. Tam bombed in the Grand Prix but during that time she was being groomed to become a prominent member of the antagonist stable, Oedo Tai.
As a member of Oedo Tai, Tam began exhibiting qualities that would make her the valuable component of the company she is today. She's very lovable and charismatic which probably comes from her time as an Idol but she's also a very skilled in-ring performer and commands attention even when she's not having a match. As a casualty of Oedo Tai's war with Queen's Quest, Tam was separated from the stable and without a home she was welcomed to Mayu Iwatani's Stardom Army. From her early days, the factions in the company would play tug of war with the possibility of making Tam one of them because her potential was attractive.
As Tam would win championships and tournaments her ego would grow, and she would start to come into her own as a prominent figure on STARDOM's roster. While under the leadership of Mayu Iwatani she had become incredibly loyal not just to her but her stablemates, but she still took her opportunities to branch out on her own create some of the greatest rivalries of her generation.
Tam won her first major title in 2021 defeating reigning STARDOM MVP, Giulia in a hair vs. hair match. Seeing Guilia as an obvious future flagbearer for the company, Tam went to war with her over the Wonder of Stardom Championship also known as "The White Belt", putting her on notice that, there is a tough road ahead of her. She also created her own stable with Mina Shirakawa and Unagi Sayaka, called The Cosmic Angels solidifying herself as a leader for the first time.

Hi, and welcome to SteelChair’s Top 50 Tag Teams of the year. In previous years, we’d given you only the Top 10 teams but tag wrestling has just been so damn good this year, that we had to expand the list by five times (five times, five times, five times, five times). Here, we count down the 50-11 positions, covering the best talent that male and female tag team divisions around the world have to offer. When you’re done here, do check out the Top 10, when it’s live, to see if your favourite made it. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Words by Laura Mauro, Steph Franchomme, Humza Hussain, Tom Mimnagh, Tom Beasley, Joe Raczka, John Dinsdale, Dave Adamson, Bradley Tiernan, Stephen Goodman, and James Truepenny.
From 50 to 26

27 – South Wales Subculture (Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster) – NXT UK
26- Tokyo Cyber Squad (Jungle Kyona & Konami) – STARDOM
From 25 to 11
25 – Queen’s Quest (Momo Watanabe & Utami Hayashishita) – STARDOM
One of Stardom’s most dominant stables, Queen’s Quest have been no stranger to championship gold this year. Momo Watanabe and Utami Hayashishita held the Goddess of Stardom Championship until July when they were divested of their gold by Tokyo Cyber Squad. But fear not! With the help of stablemate AZM, Queen’s Quest went on to claim the Artist of Stardom Championship.
24 – The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) – WWE – Were #3 last year
The New Day’s inclusion in the list of best tag teams may partly be due to their tenure, but despite Kofi’s singles run taking up most of New Day’s time in 2019, when called upon, they have continued to deliver in the WWE tag team scene. A perfect example being their great PPV outing with The Revival at Clash of Champions.
23 – Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) – WWE
The booking of the Viking Raiders has been questionable, and that dates back to their debut under the name ‘The Viking Experience’. But since consistently performing on Monday nights, Erik and Ivar have won over the crowd with their unique and breathtaking style (nicknamed “305 Live”), and this was clear for all to see in their fantastic title victory on RAW.
22 – Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) – NXT UK
Zack Gibson has always been one of the best antagonists on the microphone and NXT UK has rewarded the fans in spades! James Drake is a consistently strong performer and has become the perfect wingman to Gibson. Intense in-ring ability, a naturally dislikeable temperament and supreme confidence, Grizzled Young Vets have come to define NXT UK’s tag team division.
21- Woke Queens ( Debbie Keitel & Valkyrie) – EVE
You have to love Debbie Keitel and Valkyrie. Ireland’s enormously entertaining Woke Queens have only been operating as a dedicated duo since the beginning of the year, but they’ve made quite an impression already. Making their Pro Wrestling: EVE debut in June, the popular coffee-chugging, ABBA-loving pair fought off stiff competition to become the second-ever EVE Tag Team Champions.
20 – Santana & Ortiz (Impact Wrestling/AEW)
What is there to say about Santana and Ortiz? The former LAX have done it all in Impact Wrestling. They dominated Impact as a top draw and held the tag titles in several high-class feuds. Now they have branched out into AEW as Proud N Powerful and look set to do it all again going straight for the Young Bucks.
19 – Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) – WWE
It has been a hell of a year for this high-energy duo, who won gold for the first time on the developmental brand before making the step up to the main roster. After several weeks as an enjoyable Greek Chorus on Monday Night RAW, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have finally got in the ring, where they’re tearing it up.
18 – Anti-Fun Police (Chief Deputy Dunne & Los Federales Santos Jr) – UK Wrestling
Chief Deputy Damien Dunne, Los Federales Santos Jr, James & Leigh Obstruction (aka The Hunter Brothers, a team who could top this list on their own) and Cadet Joe Nelson have upheld the law in 2019 making sure there’s been no fun (aah) while easily stealing shows up and down the UK and Ireland. But never having fun, no fun, nada.
17 – Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) – WWE
The formation of the Kabuki Warriors was rough at best but now they look set to be a dominant force in the Women’s Tag Division. A vicious streak and ignorance of the rules have made them a threat to any woman on any show. They have rid themselves of Paige and are carving their own path of carnage through RAW.
16 – Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King)
This somewhat unlikely pairing has become one of the hottest teams in the US Indy scene. Winners of the ROH tag titles, the returning Crockett Cup and the NWA tag titles, Brody King and PCO have gone from strength to strength. And that doesn’t even take into account their success as the ROH 6-man champs along with Marty Scurll.
15 –  Reiwa Ultima Powers (DASH Chisako & Hiroyo Matsumoto)
DASH and Matsumoto are a true force of nature. Between them, Mika Iwata & Chihiro Hashimoto and Medusa Complex, 2019 has seen a resurgence in Sendai Girls’ tag division. The capper to this has been Reiwa Ultimate Powers claiming those Sendai Tag-Team titles. A fitting reward for a team that has pushed the art of tag wrestling like few others.
14 – The Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) – WWE
The Top Guys were NXT darlings. They had promo skills, a classic style and the ability to put on excellent matches. Now they can finally do that on the main roster too as they were trusted with Tag Titles and some proper usage. They aren’t quite the joke they had been and should continue to be pushed as top guys.
13 – Best Friends (Chuckie T & Trent?) – AEW
Best Friends, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor (and sometimes Orange Cassidy), have a friendship so powerful it has encapsulated the love of many AEW fans. Their patented hug alone is a force strong enough to make any hard cam zoom backwards. Whilst they were unable to progress in AEW’s tag team tournament, they have captured many hearts this year.
12 – Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt) – AEW
Take Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy, and add Marko Stunt to the equation. It’s divided some AEW fans, yet it works! The wise guardian Luchasaurus is an impressive combination of hard-hitting and high-flying, Jungle Boy with a marketable look and talent to match and Marko Stunt as the annoyingly talented little guy who everyone remembers. Wrestling fans, get on board the Jurassic Express.
11- Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) – NJPW
That Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa perennial IWGP champions and contenders had another banner year. They took the IWGP titles in February and moved on to the ROH/IWGP title match at MSG as double champions. While that may have been an artistic disaster, they’ve been power players ever since. World Tag League will define their 2020.

Wrestler of The Year 2017 | Hiroyo Matsumoto
As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! This isn’t a list or ranking of any sort, rather just a daily showcase of the wrestlers who made 2017 special in our eyes.
Today we will be highlighting Hiroyo Matsumoto.
The beginning to Hiroyo’s amazing 2017 actually started in November of 2016 when she won the Oz Academy Openweight championship from Sonoko Kato since that show she soon changed her hairstyle and ‘ramen-hair’ Hiroyo Matsumoto has created the most compelling case to be the MVP of joshi wrestling in 2017.
In her eleven year career, this is already Hiroyo’s most successful and is one of her busiest, as of writing this she’s been in 97 matches so far in 2017 and has less than 30 losses. Another reason Hiroyo’s success is noteworthy is because she is a freelance wrestler, and especially in joshi wrestling, freelance wrestlers don’t regularly see the top of show cards or hold top titles for extended periods of time (she’s also one of the few Japanese freelance wrestlers that made semi-regular appearances in Stardom).
During late June Hiroyo Matsumoto simultaneously held three titles from three different prominent promotions, the Oz Academy Openweight championship, the Sendai Girls World Championship, and the Goddesses of Stardom tag championship with Jungle Kyona. When Hiroyo Matsumoto appears on a card it’s usually in an important match, whether that’s the main event or semi-main, she’s seemingly gained the reputation of being a reliable woman to have on a show that needs to draw a crowd that wants to see good wrestling and she’s 100% deserving of that reputation.
