Another week of waiting for blonde waifu to get introduced wtf lol. Also several zombieland saga seiyuus were in this episode! They made cameos as zombies coming out from under the car, pulling a truck and walking in the forest. I would love to see a collab sometime!
So Akira and Kencho prepare to leave Tokyo behind and set out for his hometown of Gumma. Along the way we finally get Shizuka to join the party. She was a lot easier to convince than I expected actually lol. Akira saving her life last episode probably got her a little sweet on him. Deep down I think she was tired of being alone as well.
Of course they pay off the whole “goodbye to my old life” vibe Akira was on by literally having him confront his old life. Bringing the chief back is the best way for him to fully move on. Defeat the chief, break free from the mind control of the black company and live your own life how you want, Akira!
Solid set up episode for what should be a good emotional pay off at the end of this. Akira doesn’t have to fight this alone anymore. I think he’ll probably be able to convince the other people that they’re being manipulated by the chief as well. At the end of the day he’s just a bully and when you take away those numbers from him he should crumble.

My Review of GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka
Oh, shit. Only now do I realize that I haven't posted an actual review since October and it's now January 1st. That is unlike me, but I guess there's been a domino effect of things happening one after another like a small vacation out of state, working through the holidays, and just general laziness. Okay, let me get back on track. Let's review, GTO!
-------------------
Well, this has been a long time coming. This has been seen as one of the greatest animes of all time. I mean, “greatest” is in the title so it would be false advertising.
Eikichi Onizuka is about to become a teacher. He’s 22, a virgin, and an ex-biker gang leader. Perfect qualifications! Onizuka has high ambitions of becoming the greatest teacher of all-time. Hence, the title of this show. Is it for his love of education? No, he just wants a high school waifu. Oh honey, that’s going to get you put right in the slammer. Don’t let this perverted side fool you, Onizuka has a lot of life experience that could set his students on the right path. Unfortunately, Onizuka is put in the roughest class at Holy Forest Academy. Could this be a test for him or is he the right person for the job?
A lot of doubt has been thrown at Onizuka. He has quite the police record including more recent incidents and even more to come as you’ll see throughout this series. In his assistant teaching stint, he did some unorthodox methods of getting through to some students and parents. In the actual teaching interview, Onizuka punched and later body-slammed the vice principal. But, Onizuka wound up as an instructor. A middle school teacher, but a teacher nevertheless. These students are at the threshold of adulthood despite all the things they’ve gone through. I mean, these kids are dealing with shit like bullying, sexual assault, suicide, body issues, and trust issues. Mr. Onizuka might just be the right person for the job to help with these difficult pre-teens/teens.
You know, when Onizuka isn’t doing something sketchy.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Holy shit, look at all of these castmates on the dub. Everyone here has 2-5 roles in this anime. Shit, early 2000’s dubbing company, hire more people. You know how early this anime dub was? Steven Blum played the titular character and used a fake name for the credits. Wow! Come on, like we aren’t going to know that’s really Spike Speigel voicing this bro. Another amazing sight for this anime is the fact that they got the Papenbrooks to voice a couple of characters. That’s right, Debbie Rothstein and the late Bob Papenbrook. By the looks of it, Bryce wasn’t in this anime. I think this was dubbed prior to his anime debut.
As for the sub…OH SHIT, SEKI-ALERT! Greatest seiyuu in the world, Tomokazu Seki! Yeah, this looks like Toji 2.0. And that makes so much sense because Tomokazu Seki does play Toji. Look at these two and tell me I'm not crazy. Anyways, here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST:
*Onizuka is played by Wataru Takagi (known for Wataru on Detective Conan, Kaiman on Dorohedoro, Tobi on Naruto, Ganju on Bleach, and Chudelkin on SAO: Alicization)
*Fuyutsuki is played by Fumiko Orikasa (known for Diantha on Pokemon XY, Riza on FMA: Brotherhood, Seras on Hellsing, Kyubei on Gintama, Rukia on Bleach, Shirley on Code Geass, and Lotte on Little Witch Academia)
*Yoshikawa is played by Kousuke Okano (known for Russell Tringum on FMA)
*Uchiyamada is played by Cho (known for Jaken on InuYasha, Brook on One Piece, Chobi-hige on Natsume’s Book of Friends, The Principal on Hidamari Sketch, and The President on Super Milk-Chan)
*Murai is played by Tomokazu Seki (known for Tracey on Pokemon, Gilgamesh on Fate/Stay Night, Kyo on Fruits Basket, Pucci on Jojo’s Pt. 6, Shuuichi on Gravitation, Itaru on Steins;Gate, and Meito Anizawa)
ENGLISH CAST:
*Onizuka is played by Steven Blum (known for Spike on Cowboy Bebop, Orochimaru on Naruto, Shishio on Rurouni Kenshin, Roger on The Big O, Leeron on Gurren Lagann, Kadota on Durarara, and Tom from Toonami)
*Fuyutsuki is played by Wendee Lee (known for Faye on Cowboy Bebop, Konata on Lucky Star, Serenity on Sailor Moon [redub], Yoruichi on Bleach, Yahiko on Rurouni Kenshin, Yui on Fushigi Yuugi, and Haruhi Suzumiya)
*Yoshikawa is played by Kirk Thornton (known for Shirou on Blue Exorcist, Tanjiro’s father on Demon Slayer, Ougi on Code Geass, Klein on SAO, and Hotohori on Fushigi Yuugi)
*Uchiyamada is played by Bob Papenbrook (known for Nobuyuki & Katsuhito from Tenchi Muyo [season 3]) [R.I.P.]
*Murai is played by Tony Oliver (known for Lancer on Fate/Stay Night, Minato on Naruto, Soujiro on Lucky Star, Ulquiorra on Bleach, Simon on Gurren Lagann [finale], and Lupin the III)
DISLIKED CHARACTER: First things first, I will not hate on any of these students. A lot of these students like Miyabi and Anko (despite being absolute bitches) had some unfortunate things happen to them or to their friends. It’s not really their fault they were dealt a shitty hand in life. Especially when you have educators who you’re supposed to put your faith and trust in and they do something to you so unforgivable that you look upon every educator in a horrible light. Anko and the girls bullying Yoshikawa relentlessly is definitely something I dislike, but I’m going to stay focused on where I was going.
The adults at the school however are fair game. Onizuka and Fuyutsuki are excused here to an extent. Onizuka has his demons and everyone knows it. He does get his point across albeit through unorthodox methods. Though he would totally be fired in real life! And Fuyutsuki has been nothing but kind and patient with her students. But I digress, many of these teachers showcased here are pretty bad. Especially the gym teacher and the English teacher Mr. Sakurada. The gym teacher reminds me too much of the gym teacher from Persona 5 and that’s a big strike. If you know, you know! Sakurada on the other hand, there’s no forgiving with him when he gets involved in trying to steal the third-year class trip money and would just sit there and allow Onizuka’s head be put on the chopping block. Never mind being blackmailed by one of his students, he did Mr. Onizuka dirty here. Now as for Vice Principal Uchiyamada…
And the face he makes before…well, you’ve all seen the memes.
Every episode I tell myself that maybe there’s something deeper to this guy. That there’s some redeeming quality to this man and that he doesn’t deserve to be shit on episode after episode. I know there were a lot of shows and animes that would be mean to the vice principal or have them be the butt of the joke. Mr. Bone from Doug and Guber from Boston Public come to mind. Uchiyamada has definitely been the severe punching bag and butt of the joke in the series. I stopped counting how many times his car got destroyed because of Onizuka. To be fair, some of those were to stop a student from committing suicide. But then you remember his very first scene in this show was of him staring at and later sniffing Miss Fuyutsuki’s ass.
Hell yeah, I’m putting Vice Principal Uchiyamada on here!
…I do wane away from hating this guy later on though.
SHIPPING: You know what? I was sitting here the several months I spent watching this anime thinking that this couple was going to happen. And when I hit the final episode. I’m shocked yet not surprised. I’m just going to crumple up this ship, throw it in the garbage and pretend I never thought what I thought.
PREQUEL: A couple of years prior to the GTO anime, a five-part OVA series was released between 1994 and 1997 showing Onizuka and his friend Ryuuji in their high school days. This was during their middle/high school days where they were known as Onibaku. Just letting you know, nobody has licensed this in the states, it’s not streaming anywhere, there is no English dub, beware of shotty subtitles, and the Japanese cast is different from the television series.
MUSIC: I know everyone goes to the first opening theme by L'Arc~en~Ciel. And you should, it’s a great song. But if you want a toe-tapping earworm, the second opening Hitori no Yoru is the jam.
I swear, I always neglect Porno Graffitti. I need to stop, because they’ve been putting out good-ass bangers for the last 20 years.
ENDING: The final arc just before the finale was the classes taking the big trip to Okinawa. This almost didn’t happen due to one of Onizuka’s students blackmailing one of the teachers to trick Onizuka and steal all the money for the trip. That was an ordeal. But they all made it! This trip showed more of Yoshikawa than I anticipated. Remember this kid? He’s the one that almost offed himself several times throughout the series and has been bullied repeatedly. The bullying continued on this trip. So Onizuka got the bright idea of changing the sleeping arrangements and having them become coed. The end result of having Yoshikawa and his bully Anko share the same room led to an episodes-long coming to terms for Anko having feelings for Yoshikawa despite all the bullying.
Does it bother anybody else that Anko looks and acts too much like Asuka Langly Soryu? What is it with this anime and its characters looking like Evangelion characters? It can’t just be that they came out in the same decade. There’s gotta be like several animators that worked on both anime!
The final two episodes answer the question of who the hell was the teacher before Onizuka. We got our answer when the dude (Mr. Saitou) ends up in the hospital after being stabbed nearly to death. The students loved their teacher. But he wound up in a relationship with another student in the class. And when found out, Saitou promised his class one thing, but turned around and did something else. The whole class felt betrayed by the teacher they once trusted. The end result of this ordeal was that Saitou left Holy Forest Academy and actually wound up working at another school despite what he did at his prior employment. The girl Saitou had an affair with wound up pregnant and later committed suicide. And the entire classroom of students was left with a severe distrust of educators.
It's no doubt that in these last 40 episodes, Onizuka has helped each and everyone of his students in one way or another. For many, they were able to put their faith in a teacher again. But one final holdout was still never going down. And that was Miyabi! She has been trying to get Onizuka fired at every given opportunity. These episodes, she switched gears to another target. One night, she visited Mr. Saitou and stabs him. Miyabi was on the run for most of the day until she was found by Onizuka ready to stab a member of the board of education. Onizuka had a few choice words for this guy. So, the board of education guy was like, “Imma end this man’s career”. The board has given the principal an ultimatum. Miyabi must surrender herself to the police and Onizuka must be terminated for “assaulting” a board member.
Thankfully, the entire school was on Onizuka’s side. Despite everyone risking their own careers to support this guy, it is what it is. Even Vice Principal Uchiyamada! That was pretty surprising as Uchiyamada has been on a crusade since day one to get Onizuka terminated. The principal put her foot down with her decisions concerning Miyabi and Onizuka that it really ruffled the board members’ feathers. I should say so as they are some shady fucks. Murai and the other students do some sleuthing of their own and came across some interesting things. Mr. Saitou was really trying to do the right thing by his students. Miyabi didn’t stab him, Saitou stabbed his own damn self in a suicide attempt. And the school board is pretty much the bad guy in this situation.
It all comes together when Onizuka enters the room, brings the press, and admits to everyone that he stabbed Mr. Saitou. This whole scene was just anarchy that it was hard for anyone to comprehend everything that’s about to go down. The anime just shows Onizuka leaving with the police…and then he tries to escape. All of a sudden, it’s two months later. Fuyutsuki and the principal are wondering if Onizuka will ever return. And at that same time, Onizuka’s on his motorcycle traveling the United States southwest until winding up in California where he’s going to be a teacher at a junior high.
Okay, sure anime! “See you soon”. Yeah, sure. I’ll buy that. THIS ANIME CAME OUT 25 YEARS AGO AND THAT’S STILL THE LAST WE’VE SEEN OF GTO. At least in anime form. The manga went on until 2002.
I’m sure this is another case for me to go to the manga and start digging around for answers if there are any. Yes, I enjoyed this one. Okay, yes. Onizuka is the…great…Shit, I can’t finish that sentence. I’m still on Team Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom. I know both teachers are of different generations and their curriculum was hella different, but I still have to side with Koro-sensei.
I think everyone here wishes they had a teacher like Onizuka. Well…a majority of people. You do have to admit, a lot of the things he did throughout the series would have gotten him fired, arrested, or deported. Going to a home and smashing a wall so that a father and daughter would be closer. That’s one way, but I’m surprised that family wasn’t pressing charges. The raucous behavior he’s had throughout the series. The perversion too! The numerous amounts of times he destroyed the vice principal’s car. And let’s not forget some of the things he did before he entered Holy Forest Academy.
Is there ever hope that this’ll ever see a revival? There’s always hope! Hell, Fruits Basket got a revival and exceeded expectations. And other anime revivals happened to…lesser expectations. Maybe one day, some crazy studio (maybe MAPPA) will do a service to the anime community once again, give us a new cast, have Aniplex pick it up, and have the whole story told. Or, we could just leave it be and have the classic remain a classic.
In the meantime, GTO is available on Retro Crush and Crunchyroll.

A certain Prophet's Fate (ENG) [REIJI SAKAMAKI]

TRACK 2: INTRUDER
*HOOOOOWL*
The Familiars rush outside as you startle awake.
*Rustle*
You get up from the bed and leave the room in search of Shin.
*Thud*
*SCENE SHIFT*
You walk up to Shin’s room.
*Knock knock*
You call out for him.
[00:40] “...Is it you? Come on in.”
You enter the room.
“I bet you can’t sleep because you’re worried about what’s going down outside, right?”
You nod and ask him what is happening.
“It’s not just our Familiars making a fuss. More than half of those wolves are from the Wolf Clan.”
You frown.
“They suddenly entered the woods surrounding Banmaden. Usually this would never happen.”
You tilt your head to the side.
“This area is obviously part of Founder territory, so we don’t allow other species to set foot on it without permission.”
You ask why they did that.
[01:33] “Who knows? I’d love to know their reasoning as well. However…They’re the ones who broke the law. Therefore, they can’t complain if we decide to strike back.”
You seem worried.
“I know. I’ve talked it over with Nii-san as well. For now, we’ll use our Familiars to give them a warning and try to scare them off.”
*HOOOOOOWL*
“...!! This is bad!”
Shin suddenly bursts out of the room, leaving you startled before you decide to follow after him.
*SCENE SHIFT*
The two of you are running through the forest.
*HOOOOWL*
[02:38] “...!! What are you doing? It’s dangerous, so go back to your room.”
You ask him for an explanation first.
“Haah…Well, guess I have no other choice. The distant howling from earlier indicated an open fire. In other words, simply trying to intimidate them with the Familiars did not work. So I’ll go settle the conflict instead…”
*WOOSH*
You ask Shin why he transformed.
[03:11] “I can run faster in my Wolf form. I have to get this over with sooner rather than later.”
You try to change his mind.
“Listen. We’re past the ‘let’s talk it out’ phase. It’s their fault for not backing down after we gave them a warning. We have to show them what we’re capable of, or else they’ll look down on us. I can’t let that happen. I’m a Founder after all! …If you’re scared, just wait in my room, okay? I’ll get going now.”
Shin runs off.
*TIMESKIP*
Shin arrives on the battlefield.
[03:59] “Oi, you lotー! You’ve got a lot of audacity, don’t you think?”
*Groooowl*
“Oh? You’re not gonna run away? Guess you don’t know what’s good for you. In that case, I’ll show you what a Founder is made of!”
He begins to fight with the Wolves.
[04:20] ( Every time I struck down an opponent with my daunting claws or sharp fangs, I could feel my blood boil with excitement. Wild bodies moving vigorously, an overwhelming feeling of exaltation. Everything I have been looking for, I can find right here. On the battlefield. The feeling I get from defeating these Wolves one by one…Exactly, I am strong. This is what it means to be powerful. Being able to force your opponent into submission defines true strength. )
The opposing Wolves eventually run off.
*HOOOOOWL*
*TIMESKIP*
You sit up at the sound of approaching footsteps.
*Creaak*
*Thud*
You run up to Shin and embrace him.
*Rustle*
[05:25] “...!? Woah there…Now this is what I’d call a warm welcome. I didn’t think you’d jump straight in my arms. Were you that eager for my return?”
You admit to having been worried about him.
“Oh come on, you’re exaggerating. You really think a Founder would lose to some Wolves? No need to worry.”
You apologize.
“Hehe…But well, it really shows how strongly you feel for me.”
*Smooch*
[06:00] “Still, I think you’re too cowardly. I wish you wouldn’t think so lightly of me. …Hm? Aren’t your hands a little colder than usual? Seems like you’re feeling a bit under the weather again, aren’t you? Whenever you’re worried about something, it always affects your health right away, doesn’t it?”
“You’re probably lacking sleep as well, don’t you think? Things have calmed down again, so go ahead and get some nice rest, okay? I’ll even let you borrow my bed.”
You seem happy.
[06:37] “Go and sleep alone for now, okay? I’ll be back in a bit.”
You ask where he is going.
“There’s something I have to talk about with Nii-san. I can’t pretend this conflict with the Wolves never happened. We have to settle this once and for all.”
You frown.
[06:59] “Geez, there you go making that face again. Rest assured. No matter what happens, I’ll make sure that it won’t affect you.”
You nod.
“Okay. …Let’s get you tucked into bed then, okay?”
You walk towards the bed and crawl underneath the covers.
*Rustle*

Xiao: Who are you ? (part 1) (v.EN)
f!reader
I want a sweet Xiao <3 and then when you have Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as a seiyuu, how can you not love him?! (even if it will surely be complicated for him to understand the emotions that go through him!).
Zhongli being written.
Masterlist
Part 2
Who are you?
The last Yaksha guardian was collapsed on the ground, wounded, exhausted. His last battle with the darkness had lasted most of the night, further weighing down the karma of the young man with dark hair dotted with emerald strands. The voices of those he had killed fogged his mind, causing excruciating pain to his soul and body. Lying on his stomach unable to open his eyes, his hand struggled to find his winged jade spear that had fallen to the ground with him. A groan of pain scraped his throat at the movement.
The young man flinched briefly as he heard footsteps approaching him quickly, feeling hands grasp his shoulders to carefully turn him around.
He tried again to open his eyes, his vision was blurred and foggy. He could not distinguish the features of the human who had seized him, feeling only his hand gently caressing his hair in an attempt to soothe him. The voice he heard calling him with concern sounded like a woman's, soft and warm.
A soothing light enveloped the young woman, the boy did not understand what was happening because in the second that followed, his body lightened, his pain evaporated, was he dreaming?
Although his vision was still blurred, he nevertheless managed to distinguish a little better the contours of the young woman with long hair (color).
"Who are you? "
His voice was marked by fatigue. He managed to distinguish a thin smile on the face of his rescuer. He repeated more weakly:
"Who are you...? "
His eyes sank, the ethereal form of the young woman reminding him of distant memories, a sudden warmth burst in his heart. Tears beaded in the corners of his eyes.
"Gui...zhong? "
The landscape around him darkened, leading him straight into a soft torpor.
Xiao woke up with a start. Where was he? The Wangshu Inn? Yes, he recognized his quarters, but how did he get there? He still remembered his fight against the horde of monsters he had defeated. He raised his right hand to his face, examining it more closely.
He had no more wounds, no more pain, which brought him back to the young woman he thought he had seen. Had he hallucinated? Had she really healed him? Everything seemed to be a blur. He got up from the bed without difficulty, heading directly to the balcony which was on the top floor of the inn. He looked around, hoping to find the woman who had helped him. The sun was beginning to set, so he had spent the day resting here. It was unusual for him, not being human he didn't have the same needs as them, sleeping, eating, living with others, all that seemed ridiculous. He was almost angry at himself for staying unconscious for so long, hitting one of the wooden columns on the balcony.
Xiao turned around, heading towards the stairs, quickly walking down the steps to Wangshu's innkeeper, Verr Goldet.
"Verr. "
The young woman turned her attention to Xiao.
"Good evening lord Xiao, have you recovered from your last fight? "
"Did you see who brought me here?"
Verr didn't take offense to his curt tone, simply shaking her head to indicate that she hadn't.
Xiao clicked his tongue, annoyed. He needed to know who this mysterious woman was who had taken care of him. The memory of the warmth that emanated from her gripped his heart again, drawing his steps back towards the exit of the inn.
He suddenly bumped into a young man with blond hair, accompanied by his annoying little creature.
"Xiao?"
Aether looked at Xiao with big round eyes, he was not used to seeing him with such an expression. He was confused, frustrated and angry, these were all emotions that were running through the yaksha since he woke up.
"Xiao is not in a good mood"- Paimon twirled around him- "You should come eat something with us, nothing beats a good meal for..."
"I don't need that! "
Paimon gasped, hiding behind Aether. Xiao tried to calm himself by inhaling a deep breath of air, passing by the traveler without saying a word.
"Wait Xiao! Where are you going? "
Aether stopped him, grabbing his arm loosely so as not to rush him further. Xiao immediately gave a sharp blow on his arm to disengage himself, he regretted his abrupt words, he hated it. Before he met Aether, he never had to worry about others or how to behave with them, he was alone and he was fine with that. It was all too... human for him. Slowly he turned his gaze to the traveler.
"Aether I... am sorry. "
"Xia...! "
Without saying another word, Xiao disappeared in a draft.
When you landed in Liyue from your native land, Sumeru, a few months ago, a terrifying battle took place at the city's port. An ancient God who had once been sealed by the rock lord had broken free from his prison, attempting to destroy the port of Liyue in the process, but fortunately he was quickly stopped.
Since these events, you had started to travel in the lands of the geo archon, studying the local fauna and flora. Flowers had always fascinated you, their shapes, their smells, their meanings or their benefits, you studied absolutely everything, noting and drawing in a notebook everything you saw.
In Sumeru, you joined the prestigious magic academy to perfect your Guizhong, that was the last thing he said to you. Who was he? It seemed to you that you had already read this name in one of the books you had borrowed from the academy. You couldn't ask him, tiredness taking him away from you. You knew that not far away there was an inn, it was going to be difficult but you had to take him there so that he could rest. When you picked him up, wrapping your arm around his shoulders for support, his spear on the ground disappeared by itself. You had adjusted your grip before you began your walk.
After several minutes of recalling these events, you noticed that you had finally arrived at the high cliffs of Huaguang. Taking your courage in both hands, you prepared yourself mentally to climb the cliff. Up there was a flower that you wanted to study, the Qingxin flower. They grew exclusively on the highest stone peaks, avoiding heat and humidity, a lonely and hard to reach flower.
"It's okay! "
You rolled up your sleeves, putting your feet and hands where they could grip, slowly you began your ascent.
Night had fallen on the Liyue plains, and it was at the top of Qingyun Peak that the Yaksha had taken refuge, watching the stars brighter than ever. Sitting on the edge of the cliff, the memory of the young woman haunted him. The pain in his chest made him clench his fists, he had never felt like this, he didn't even know what name to put on these feelings.
Xiao was a thousand year old follower, human feelings didn't concern him, so why? Why such pain at the mere thought of a... stranger? But was she really a stranger? This woman had reminded him of an old friend, Guizhong, who died during the Archon war. Could she have come back in an ethereal form? Or maybe it was a new trick the demons had found to torture him a little more.
In the distance, Xiao saw a faint jade-colored light coming from the Huaguang stone forest. He widened his eyes, remembering that glow that had saved his life. His heart began to beat furiously in his chest.
"This is... impossible... I found you. "
His voice trembled at the sight of the sweet emanation. It warmed him, soothed him, the voices that constantly hammered him fell silent and his usually aching body was now light. At last he understood his obsession with you, when you had treated him earlier this morning, a bond had been established between you, a bond as strong as the one that bound him to Morax for whom he had the greatest respect and devotion.
Xiao stood up, looking in the direction you were facing. He disappeared into the wind.art and deepen your knowledge. More than once your teachers told you that your manipulation of your dendro vision was exceptional, some city-states were already looking to recruit you as a researcher or healer, but you always refused, preferring to remain free of your movements. Once you had finished your studies, you quickly decided to leave your homeland, wanting to learn more from your neighbors. Your steps finally led you to Liyue.
You had left early that morning, heading towards the Huaguang stone forest from the Dihua swamp. On the way, you passed a badly wounded young man with emerald tattoos on him. His face, despite the wounds, was beautiful and when he opened his eyes, the amber color immediately fascinated you.
You couldn't leave him like that, wounded and bruised, using your Dendro vision to heal him. When you used it, it projected a jade aura on you and a flowery area grew around you, releasing energy that allowed you to heal even the deepest wounds.
He had tried several times to ask you to identify yourself, which you did, but his apparent fatigue had closed off his senses.
Guizhong, that was the last thing he said to you. Who was he? It seemed to you that you had already read this name in one of the books you had borrowed from the academy. You couldn't ask him, tiredness taking him away from you. You knew that not far away there was an inn, it was going to be difficult but you had to take him there so that he could rest. You had finally reached the top of the cliff, immediately spotting two-three Qingxin flowers. You immediately knelt down beside one of them, taking out your notebook and pencil. You began to draw this beautiful flower from every angle, noting here and there the characteristics you could observe. Satisfied with everything you could see, you finally turned to the landscape plunged in the darkness of the night. Liyue's sky was dotted with stars that shone brightly. Sitting cross-legged in the center of the cliff top, your gaze turned back to the flowers of Qingxin, suddenly reminding you of the young man you had rescued. When you looked into his eyes, his eyes seemed so sad, so lonely. The pain that seemed to be emanating from him had struck you at the highest point.
You turned your attention back to the stars. Your mind was obsessed with this boy and it was with him in mind that you began to sing an ancient poem by Sumeru. The words, although sung in your native language, were undoubtedly sad and melancholic. Your hands were placed in front of you, palms up, eyes closed, activating your dendro vision. A jade-green circle encircled the entire surface of the cliff, particles of light streaming from the ground. Gradually, luminescent blue flowers began to grow around you, following the rhythm of your song.
It was a violent draught that cut you off, opening your eyes in surprise. You gasped as you saw the young man with the amber eyes standing before you.
He was out of breath, stiff as a board, his eyes never leaving yours. Something in him seemed different from this morning, in his eyes you could see... peace?
He cautiously approached you, kneeling down in front of you to get to your level. He took one of your hands in his, squeezing it gently. The particles you had created swirled around you, lighting up the scene. Your heart was pounding now that he was in front of you, you found him even more attractive under the moonlight. His eyes shone with an incredible brilliance, his tattoos also glowed with a soft emerald glow.
Your voice, your appearance, everything seemed sweet to him, no wonder he confused you with Guizhong, you looked like him in some ways.
His lips trembled slightly as he continued to examine your face, a question seemed to cross his lips.
His free hand went up to your face, tucking one of your locks behind your ear.
"Who are you? "His tone was more brutal than he had intended it to be.
Your eyes widened at the question. Of course you couldn't introduce yourself or learn who he was, his name, what he did. You wanted to know everything about this man who had marked your heart.
Seeing that you didn't answer, he asked again in a soft whisper, making you blush.
"Who are you? "
"(y/n)..."
And for the first time since you met, a smile stretched his lips, a silence accompanying your answer. His smile disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, his hand dropped yours.
"Xiao. "
You looked at him intensely, your face completely red as he straightened his legs.
"As long as you're in Liyue, I'll protect you. Call me and I'll be there in a second."
You slowly nodded, fascinated by this man who was decidedly not human. He watched you for a few more seconds, his eyes entranced by your presence before disappearing as he had appeared...
"Xiao..."

Naoyuta and why I can't stop thinking about it
Naoyuta ( Naoyuu / Yuunao ) is the ship between Naoya Kido and Yuta Matsukaze. Now this post will just be me ranting about Naoyuta and why people in the community should talk about it more.
[ Quick warning : I AM Yuta so I will be referring to myself in the first person during this whole post. Also, if you reply, please do not mention anything about Kosu/Yuu because I can literally explain how that's never going to happen and why I'm so uncomfortable about it ]
Part 1 : A Pair of Nerds
I ( Yuta ) am a surfer from Shōnan who was born and raised at my parent's surfing shop. Naoya is a surfer from Oita. Through dialogue, it's revealed that I've known Naoya longer than he's known me. Our first meeting was either at the cafe where he got Miruru merch from [ WAVE!! 4-koma ], where he met both me and Kosuke twice, but never had a proper conversation, we only told him that he can have our coasters and cards. Or at my surf shop, where Naoya came in to check out a necklace he saw [ Yuta Matsukaze - Analysis During Shop Duty ].
Our feelings towards each other are unknown, as the full relationship chart only says "?". Meanwhile, the character relationship charts have our opinions on each other. Though, from the mmm relationship chart, me and Naoya are shown to be confused with each other, "Miruru...?" "Megane character...?".
Part 2 : Next to each other.
As the 5th and 6th characters in the roster, me and Naoya are constantly paired together in promotional works and songs. Though, that's not as important as our actual relationship to each other.
We don't get to see much in the anime, though there have been a lot of interactions outside of it that shows that we're not as far apart as we seem.
From the [ WAVE!! 4-koma ], it's shown that me and Naoya has spent a couple of days together. In one comic, I was spending my whole day with him to figure out how he's so amazing at surfing. We ended up only watching anime, which made my notes fill up with data about Miruru. That databook was then given to Naoya. Something interesting is how the narrator said "There was no data collected, but the distance between their hearts did shorten."
On the game story [ Yuta Matsukaze - Analysis During Shop Duty ], I said a line that could be interpreted as falling in love or gaining interest, "At first, I was just supposed to guard the store. But before I knew it, I was..." In the same story, I also told Naoya that I've been watching him for over a year ( to which he called me a stalker, but that's fair i guess ), though it was Naoya telling me that he didn't mind me talking so much.
Naoya, meanwhile, doesn't give us much. He's said I was different on multiple occasions, on the character relationship charts ( which we will get to later ) and in the story [ Naoya Kido - The Secret of the Notebook ], where he said "…… Hinaoka-senshu is not ready yet. But Matsukaze-senshu is different." when it came to names for techniques. Naoya has also became really enthusiastic when I told him that I would probably move to Tokyo after high school [ WAVE!! 4-koma ]. We also got a close up shot of Naoya being worried for me during my heat with Fuke----
Also, a friend of mine theorised that the promotional SURFDAYS illustrations, the ways we're holding our surfboards are the way we'll hold our significant others...... So in terms of being next to each other,,,
Part 3 : Annoying?!
Now on to those character relationship charts.
On my relationship chart :
Y -> N : "He gets really excited when we're in Tokyo"
N -> Y : "I'd rather watch the latest Miruru episode than listen to your data."
On Naoya's relationship chart :
Y -> N : "His Miruru fan-ness gets annoying."
N -> Y : "He's a little different from the megane characters I know."
So yes, not that positive.... Though, despite me finding his love for Miruru a little annoying, it doesn't stop me from looking out for him. On the game event story [ Chocolate Securing Plan ], Nalu reveals that I've been telling him about Naoya. Nalu said that I told him not to touch the truth about Miruru, or basically, not to reality check him. This came up when Sho almost told Naoya about how fictional characters can't make real life chocolate.
Part 4 : Trivia and Hints
Me alerting Bill as to why Naoya isn't going to participate in the Forest Cup [ WAVE!! 4-koma ]
Me being the first to try and help Naoya after seeing him sad because the anime isn't going to stream in his city [ WAVE!! 4-koma ]
Me saying that I need Naoya in Shōnan after finding out how Naoya could actually make Kosuke take a break [ WAVE!! 4-koma ]
Me falling more into interest with Naoya after finding out how he is towards 2D and 3D girls [ Naoya Kido - 2D and 3D ]
Me itching to talk to him after seeing him at the beach [ Naoya Kido - The Secret of the Notebook ]
Me being the most worried when mine and Masaki's plan to give Naoya Miruru Dried Sweet Potatoes failed [ Naoya's Birthday Post 2020 ]
Naoya saying he doesn't mind that I talk a lot and that I'm just enthusiastic [ Yuta Matsukaze - Analysis During Store Duty ]
Naoya actually laughing and blushing at whatever the fuck I'm showing him [ WAVE!! Surfing Yappe!! Vol.2 DVD Cover ]
Part 5 : Yuta's Thoughts
Yeah so far it seems somewhat one-sided. I've shown a lot of interest towards Naoya in multiple different stories. Though there's much on him towards me. It's not something I mind though. In the stories, Naoya has shown to be kind towards me, though sometimes sarcastic and straightforward. He's a really interesting person and I'm glad that I could figure him out piece by piece. In the end, we still feel very far apart.
Yet, despite our distance and somewhat distaste for each other, we also have a lot of similarities. First of all, we're both described as nerds. But we also have shown to be the most perceptive out of the whole group, other similarities is that we can't seem to fucking shut up about our interests, and we also treasure our friends very much.
Part 6 : Final Thoughts
Anyways Naoyuta is a great ship, fuck you nerd x nerd is superior I don't want to hear anyone say shit about it. Also pink and green literally amazing, the colour palette is just spectacular, I cannot shut up about it.
This is dedicated to the first showing of Shonan the WAVE!! which will be streamed on the LOVE&ART official YouTube channel featuring both mine and Naoya's seiyuus, Yusuke Shirai and Shunichi Toki, on Friday 21st of May at 21:00 JST
Manifesting a Naoyuta drama but who knows.
Also WAVE!! Wonderful Party has a clip,,, It might be from a drama featuring the both of us or it could be something else. If it's the former then WHAT THE FUCK WHY DID I FUCKING MOAN AFTER NAOYA SAID SOMETHING ABOUT LAUNCHING SOMETHING [ CONTEXT PLEASE ]
Anyways have a great day, this was Yuta Matsukaze ranting about his own relationship and being gay as fuck so I hope you enjoyed reading it.
To leave off this post, I'll be sharing some art. And that's it, thank you for reading, goodbye for now!

What other animes are you interested in? :3
I mentioned what animes are my favourite in this post already, but I think I’ll elaborate a little bit about what I’m interested in 👀
Something that is on my mind right now (other than SnK of course) is Osomatsu-san. We loved the first season and rewatched it a bunch of times. I think the 3rd one is airing already?? This is why I started seeing it in my tl again.
I love the gags, the artstyle (I think it’s charming…), the characters, and Ichimatsu is my absolute darling. Osomatsu-san has a great cast of seiyuus, listening to them screaming and bickering and whining is fun too. I love how ruthless a lot of the jokes are and how self-aware the whole anime feels. Satire/parody/crude humor are very fun to me in general, this is why we also love Gintama and South Park. Oh and Hetalia lol
There is a lot of Osomatsu-san content (new seasons, a movie?? audiodramas too…) for us to watch and I’m excited about it. Right now I’m in a state between “oh, I remember it pretty well” and “wow, I don’t remember shit”…
We also tend to enjoy longer animes, like Hunter x Hunter, for example. I think it’s easier to dive deep into them because we often binge the episodes as we watch, and if the series is 12 episodes long… well, it’s over before you could even blink haha. Of course, we still watch shorter anime from time to time, but still, when we find something super long and super interesting to enjoy for some time, it’s like finding a treasure on some kind of an island. This is what happened when we finally watched HxH last year.
HxH is extremely precious to me. What I appreciate about it is how it kept surprising us and breaking the usual shounen tropes. Gon is great and a very enjoyable protagonist to watch, he is naive, but very stubborn and street-smart (forest-smart..?), and his moral is surprisingly not as black-and-white as one’d expect from a green anime boi. He can be surprisingly brutal lol The amount of times I went “omfg GON WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY-“ is, well, a lot.
And Killua… Killua Killua Killua :C I was sure I’d adore him when we just started watching HxH but his character development gutted me like a fish. I was expecting a lot of edge and sass, and what I got was a beautiful depiction of love and adoration of another person, loyalty and fear that all of it might end one day. Ok, I’m getting carried away AHEM- I think Killua and Levi are two of my absolute faves right now. They have a lot in common now that I think about it haha
Ugh I can gush over HxH for hours, let me just say that I love it very much, I’d love to revisit it one day and draw 2301848 sketches of every single character from it because the designs are amazing and their personalities are very fun to play around with. Also, Madhouse did a great job with the animation, pacing, directing and all that jazz.
What else… oh, EVANGELION. Once again, beautifully written characters is the most interesting aspect to me, but I just love thinking about Evangelion, to be honest. Like I mentioned, I love the story of its creation, the production, the lore, everything. I flip through screencaps from NGE a lot, I listen to songs from it a lot. I stare at my Kaworu figurine a lot…
I’m also very into Revolutionary Girl Utena but my adoration for it is a little bit pacified right now, I’m waiting until we rewatch it so I can refresh my memories about it. When it happens, my sanity will be gone forever I think lol
All of the titles I mentioned above are the ones we would discuss aggressively, buy merch aggressively, read all of the djs available aggressively, stuff like that. With passion.
We also rewatch something super old and obscure from time to time, like a couple of years ago Katsu was kind enough to want to rewatch Gravitation, and we ended up reading the entire manga afterwards. And I loved every second of it.
If we’re talking genres, well, we do love horrors as you probably have noticed, but I can’t remember anything in particular that would be a good horror anime. Not an anime that is “technically a horror” (like Hellsing and err Tokyo Ghoul ???????), but like a horror anime. There are some cool conceptual things (like Mononoke), but for getting a horror experience I’d rather read manga I think.
Satire and parody are fun; I’d say that it’s my personal favourite genre. A good thriller anime is always a huge Yes (like Monster), and I guess we generally tend to watch Seinen/Shounen, but now that I think about it, we don’t really look at the genres??? If it looks fun, we’re interested 👀
Oof sorry I’ve been talking for ages and it feels like I haven’t said anything interesting or useful, but here we are lol

‘Liz and the Blue Bird’ Recap Part 1
I recently watched KyoAni’s ‘Liz & the Blue Bird’ for the first time, and I have to say: wow, what a film. This is one of the few times where I finished a film and was left utterly speechless by the end of it. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this is my new favorite film. If you’ve ever felt like a movie had to have been made specifically with you in mind because it seemed to hit all the right notes with you emotionally, that’s exactly how I feel about ‘Liz.’ Part of me is wishing I had watched this movie around when it first came out so that I could’ve witnessed all the hype around it. However, I actually do think it was for the best that I waited until now to watch it. I honestly don’t think I would’ve understood it as well as I do now.
I really love this movie, and I really wanna talk about it. So, instead of harassing my friends about it, I’m going to be doing a scene by scene review of ‘Liz’ and share my thoughts. I promise you this is only going to be, like, half-serious.
This is going to be split into 3 parts uploaded sporadically.
Obviously this post will contain spoilers for the whole film as well as seasons 1 and 2 of Hibike.
Liz and the Blue Bird or Liz to Aoi Tori is an animated film directed by Naoko Yamada, produced by the prolific animation studio known as Kyoto Animation, and was released on April 21, 2018 in Japan, then November 9, 2018 in the US. To talk about Naoko Yamada for a minute, she started off at KyoAni as an assistant animator, doing inbetweens as so many animators do starting out in the industry. Eventually she was allowed to direct, where she has quite the impressive track record. She’s directed K-On!, Tamako Market, Hibike! Euphonium, and probably most notably, A Silent Voice just to name a few things. With that in mind, I’m not surprised why I enjoyed this movie so much. Yamada is known to show a real sensitivity toward depicting the different relationships between young girls in a naturalistic way.
EDIT: I began writing this on Saturday, April 18, just a day or two after I watched the movie for the first time, and I swear I didn’t even process that the two-year anniversary was coming up! What a wacky coincidence.
ACT 1
The first imagery in the film we see are gorgeous, picturesque watercolor-style background paintings.
As the titular track plays, we are introduced to Liz; not the main character of the film, but certainly the main character of the book, also entitled ‘Liz & the Bluebird,’ featured in this film.
The first shot we see of her is a voyeuristic one; we are a good distance away and we are peeking from behind a tree at the intimate moment between Liz and her animal companions.I have to say, I had no idea what to expect when I first sat down to watch this movie, as I wanted to go in as blindly as possible. I certainly hadn’t been expecting to see this German picture book-esque art style with lush forest backgrounds in a Hibike movie, and I honestly thought for a moment that I had accidentally stumbled upon the wrong movie.
Liz spots a bluebird settled on a tree stump and she is immediately attracted to the creature. The bird flies over to Liz and lands in her hands as the music climaxes, but as quickly as it arrives, it flies away across the lake. A bittersweet moment.
As the camera pans downward toward the flowers, the scene fades, and we are finally brought into the real world. This is punctuated by the titular track concluding, and being replaced by music that is more abstract and minimalistic. This world is notably duller with cooler, more subdued colors, directly contrasting with the bright, warm colors in the picture book world.
Shots with the camera focused on feet or legs are a common motif seen throughout this film.
We are finally introduced to one of our main characters, Mizore Yoroizuka, now a third year at Kitauji.
I was also slightly caught off guard seeing this new art style being used. Initially, I missed the art style originally used in the show, but after watching this movie I now understand KyoAni’s decision in changing it up, and I also completely agree with it. Looking back, I believe that the show’s original art style simply would not have worked at all, or at least not as well as it could’ve. This new art style with thinner linework, slightly elongated figures, slightly smaller eyes, and subdued colors makes the characters feel more mature to match the tone of the film. Also, while the old style is ideal for showcasing exaggerated and wacky facial expressions, this style is suited better for more subtle emotion, which, again, better matches the tone.
She waits.
Something I enjoy about KyoAni films is how the camera is oftentimes used to show the audience what a character is seeing through their eyes, instead of the camera just acting as a third person bystander all the time.
We hear more footsteps approaching, but they do not belong to the girl Mizore is waiting for.
This is turning into an episode of the ‘Gushing Over KyoAni Power Hour’ but I have to commend their sound design and the way they utilize silence and quiet moments in this movie. So far in this scene, aside from the very minimal track played over this, all we can hear is the foley of the atmosphere, footsteps, clothes rustling, etc. This quietness shows us the solitude of Mizore’s world. It’s also important to note that all the music, not sure if this includes the music in the picture book world, was recorded in the school that Kitauji is based off of. Regular school items were even being used as instruments!
When the music suddenly picks up as another girl rounds the corner, we know she’s the one.
I like to believe that Mizore is so attuned to Nozomi that she’s memorized the sound of her footsteps and is immediately able to recognize that it's her as soon as she is within ear range.
:’)
Nozomi is in focus while everything else in the shot is out of focus. To Mizore, everything outside of Nozomi is irrelevant.
The two girls continue walking together, Nozomi leading and Mizore following behind. This statement alone accurately summarizes the dynamic between these two characters during the beginning half of the movie. Clearly there’s something of an imbalance. Mizore watches and waits for Nozomi to act before she does anything.
I read somewhere that Mizore’s seiyuu speculated that when Mizore is an adult and she looks back to her time at high school, she’ll find that her only memory of Nozomi will be the back of her head… and that got me… feeling some emotions….
Coincidentally, Nozomi finds the feather of a bluebird on the ground, and offers it to Mizore.
I have my own little theory that Mizore could be on the spectrum. Her habit of running a hand down her hair whenever she appears to be nervous or anxious, amongst her other mannerisms in this film lead me to believe that. I think I’ll elaborate further on that and explain my reasoning in a future post.
Mizore accepts it, but is still unsure of herself. Hence the questioning tone. Clearly Nozomi found the feather to be extremely pretty, but Mizore doesn’t know why she would give it to her of all people. She’s still under the impression that she doesn’t mean as much to Nozomi, as Nozomi means to her.
More shots of Nozomi and Mizore playing follow-the-leader as they walk through the school. Nozomi puts her hand on a locker as she rounds a corner, Mizore also puts her hand on a locker. Nozomi stops for a sip of water, Mizore also stops for a sip of water.
These walk cycles give us good indications as to who these characters are. Mizore is timid and hesitant, Nozomi is carefree and outgoing.
Kitauji has way too many different flights of stairs.
We are flashed back to a memory that mirrors this moment in time. Again, Nozomi walks with a skip in her step, her hips swaying, and her ponytail bouncing playfully.
Mizore puts the key in the door to the band room, but hesitates for a moment before unlocking it. When she does open it, Nozomi enters the room first with a twirl.
I’ve been watching a lot of video essays and reading a lot of discussions about this movie, and one of the points someone brought up really stuck out to me. This whole scene, from when they are walking through the hallways until now, when Mizore opens the door, offers the earliest hint in the movie that Mizore is actually the bluebird in the relationship. While Nozomi is the one ahead of Mizore on their journey, Mizore is the one who holds the keys to their destination. Mizore is the one in charge, but she holds herself back. While Nozomi makes it to the door first, she cannot enter until Mizore opens it.
That’s one of the many things I love about this movie, there are so many nuances that you pick up new things and make new interpretations with every single viewing.
Uh oh.
After putting their instruments together and warming up, in a rare moment, Mizore tells Nozomi how she’s feeling. Mizore is merely happy to have Nozomi at her side, but Nozomi misinterprets this as her being happy about the free-choice piece their band has chosen to play: Liz & the Bluebird. Mizore probably couldn’t care less about the piece, but doesn’t bother correcting her. She is only interested in the piece and the story behind it when she hears that Nozomi is interested in it.
Remember how I said this art style was ideal for showing subtlety in emotions? This is what I was talking about.
In this visually experimental scene, Nozomi explains the story of Liz and the Blue Bird while we also see the story of Nozomi and Mizore’s friendship unfold.
:’)
Sound familiar?
One of the first indications that Nozomi isn’t the best at listening.
Mizore: Same.
Me: Same.
Scenes that physically hurt me #1
A lot of people love to bring up KyoAni whenever the topic of queerbaiting arises; that’s neither here nor there. However, I cannot deny the inherent queerness of this scene, and really of the whole film. It’s made obvious that Mizore loves Nozomi in a way that’s more than just a regular friend. Other people make Mizore anxious, but not Nozomi. Mizore enjoys Nozomi’s presence so much that she wants to lean into her side. For a second, the two of them are frozen in time and in a world of their own. Mizore is forced back into reality when Nozomi abruptly pulls away.
The movement title, “A Decision Borne of Love,” sticks out to Mizore.
Just like their intonation, there is that imbalance in their friendship and this is the film’s way of hinting at that if you haven’t already picked up on it.
Throughout the film, Nozomi is always wearing this pink watch, showing how eager she is for the future.
To Mizore, the watch on Nozomi’s wrist is just a constant reminder that their time left together is fleeting.
Listen. I absolutely love whenever these two are on screen together. Love-hate relationships can be hit or miss, but this pairing is one of the better ones of that kind. They’re both great characters individually, but they also have amazing chemistry together.
Don’t get it twisted, Mizore is good friends with Yuuko and Natsuki, but them entering the room means that her moment alone with Nozomi has come to an end. Mizore and Nozomi don’t seem to share any classes together, so this is likely the only time of the day where they get to have a moment to just themselves. Mizore cares for Natsuki and Yuuko, in fact Yuuko was the one who stayed by her side after Nozomi originally quit band, but her relationship with Nozomi is a treasure more precious than anything.
I was wondering if we’d be seeing these two in this film, and I’m so glad that they are. I’m more glad, however, that they are pretty much relegated to the background here. They’ve already had their seasons 1 and 2 character arcs wrapped up, now it’s time to give the secondary characters a chance to shine.
I’m also very glad to see these two attached at the hip in almost every scene they’re in.
Nozomi leaves to go rehearse with her kouhais, and Mizore watches yearningly as she is being left alone again.
I’ll probably say this again multiple times throughout this recap, but I seriously identify with Mizore so much. I mean, we’ve all been that girl. We’ve all been paranoid that if given the choice, our friends would pick someone else to hang out with over you.
I admire KyoAni for including these casual moments of characters just chilling and talking about nothing. Of course they don’t add much to the overall plot, but they do contribute to the overall atmosphere of a high school. High school isn’t always about drama, it’s also about random conversations you have with your friends.
Mizore is still thinking about what Nozomi said earlier. In Hibike season 2, we know that for a time Mizore hated competitions until Kitauji won gold in the Kansai competition. I think that now in this movie, Mizore still hates competitions, but for a different reason. The national competition marks the last time the third years will get to play together. She fears that because they won’t be in the band anymore, Nozomi won’t have any other reason left to stay with Mizore.
As Mizore begins to read, we are brought back into the picture book world that strongly resembles a 1970s anime.
We see Liz again as she emerges from a train. This takes place in an early 20th century European town filled with friendly people, though Liz doesn’t seem to interact with them.
This world is also giving me Howl’s Moving Castle vibes?
She works at a humble bread bakery owned by a man named Arlt.
Liz doesn’t look exactly eager to clock out for the day. It’s safe to assume that her shifts at work are the only times where she gets to have any real human interaction. I’m getting the impression that even though she’s introverted, she still gets lonely. Much the same as Mizore. As Liz waves ‘goodbye’ to customers, her face sinks ever so slightly.
After work, Liz returns home to her cottage to prepare a meal for herself, eat it alone, and then retire to her bedroom to sleep.
In the morning, the same bluebird from earlier appears at Liz’s window and peeks inside the room.
Later in the day, Liz is caught in a storm as she is returning home from another shift at the bakery. After overdosing on berries, Liz wakes up the next morning still at the dining table, after the storm has already passed. She walks out the front door and notices a mysterious blue-haired girl passed out in the grass.
Liz realizes, “oh sh*t, I should do something.”
She’s dead.
After being woken up, the girl immediately recognizes Liz. The girl, who is actually the bluebird personified, reminds me a lot of Ponyo in how she pretty much claims Liz as her person, and quickly forms a bond with her, much like how Ponyo does to Sosuke.
Act 2 of the movie begins and we’re brought back into Mizore’s world. She continues reading the book and smiles to herself.
In rehearsal, the band president Yuuko delivers a message about auditions for participating in the national competition. Mizore is anxious at the mention of the competition again.
The flute girls have already given their senpai a cute nickname, and Mizore is understandably a little jealous. Maybe all of their problems would be resolved if Mizore and Nozomi would just give each other cute nicknames.
She’s literally so adorable??? I think she’d be considered a gyaru in Japanese culture based on the color of her hair and how she has it styled.
After some encouragement from her friends, a first year oboist named Ririka musters up the courage to approach Mizore.
Uh Ririka, birds are a bit of a touchy subject for Mizore right now.
When I watched this for the first time, admittedly I was a bit anxious about what these girls’ intentions were with wanting to invite Mizore to hang out with them. However, my anxieties in regards to that were quickly relieved when I remembered that bullying is just not a concept that exists within the world of Hibike. I’m really glad that this is an anime where most people are at the very least cordial with each other.
F in the chat.
Mizore isn’t ready yet to branch out and meet other people. She’s still tunnel visioned on Nozomi.
After rejecting Ririka, Mizore walks over to Nozomi. Nozomi tells her that she and the flute girls are going out to eat later today. I think that Mizore is unsure about whether this was an invitation for her to join them. Regardless, Mizore doesn’t want to impose seeing that she’d probably feel awkward around a group of people she doesn’t know very well.
Nozomi likes spending time with Mizore, but she’s just too high in demand with her peers.
Mizore puts away her instrument, and then pulls out the bluebird feather Nozomi gave to her this morning. She clutches it close and treasures it as a gift from the person she loves.
Forever screaming at how gorgeous the environment art in this movie is.
On the way out, Mizore runs into Ririka and her double reed friends again. The first years make another attempt at starting a friendship with Mizore, though the third year only spares them a couple words before she departs.
KyoAni is so good at creating such cute, appealing characters.
Ririka is really determined to get to know Mizore, so who better to ask for help from than the Mizore expert herself?
Was she about to call Mizore an ice queen? I thought that was Reina’s title.
Uh, same.
Ririka is worried that she may have gotten off on the wrong foot with Mizore considering she doesn’t seem to be reciprocating. I understand this situation extremely well; I’ve been through it multiple times, although more so from the perspective of Mizore. Mizore and I are quite similar in many areas, including being aloof and taking a good while before feeling comfortable enough to open up with someone. So yeah, I do get the frustration on Ririka’s part.
Nozomi, you literally didn’t actually offer her any advice at all, you clown.
I--
A nice egg in these trying times?
Back in the picture book, Liz has invited the blue girl into her home and is nursing her back to health. Apparently, she makes pretty good soup.
She’s offering the blue girl her home, so she might as well get some free labor out of it.
It’s a particularly windy day, and as the two of them are doing the laundry, a hankerchief gets caught in the breeze. The blue girl attempts to retrieve it but she remembers she’s lost her flight capabilities. She’s a human now, but at the cost of her wings.
Liz takes her to the local Panera Bread she works at. Arlt says... something?
The blue girl discovers she has a taste for human blood.
I’m declaring that these two are very much in love and I will not be taking any feedback at this time. The lighting in this shot is *chef’s kiss*.
The two girls have spent the whole day together, from going to the bakery, picking berries, and having dinner. The blue girl brings a light to Liz’s life that had been previously missing.
Now the duo are having a picnic on the side of a hill. It suddenly dawns on Liz that she actually doesn’t know anything about the girl she has living in her house. The blue girl doesn’t seem to know anything either. She lived a pretty nomadic lifestyle as a bird. However, one thing the blue girl knows for sure is that she came into Liz’s life so that she wouldn’t be alone anymore.
Liz is a pretty reserved individual and the blue girl is more of a free spirit. She fears that someday the blue girl will decide to leave her. So, Liz makes the very simple request that the blue girl should stay by her side forever.
Mizore wants the same thing from her favorite person.
Mizore is interrupted from her reading by an unenthusiastic library assistant telling her that she needs to get out so that she can lock up. I imagine she isn’t quite too fond of Mizore after this movie.
First years really do be getting younger and younger...
Those two are Satsuki and Mirei, two first years who join the bass section in the next Hibike movie, Chikai no Finale. We get a better look at their relationship there.
Mizore: !!!
Oh.
Nozomi explains the famous Minami Middle School ritual known as the “I Love You Hug,” or the “Daisuki no Hagu.” Basically you find a friend, give them a hug, and tell them all the things you love about them. Sounds very, very, gay.
Nozomi’s had her fair share of I Love You Hugs back in the day, but Mizore’s never had a chance to participate in one.
Scenes that physically hurt me #2.
Seeing that Mizore’s never experienced an I Love You Hug, Nozomi offers her one. She opens her arms waiting for her friend to reciprocate. Mizore is completely caught off guard, but she is more than willing to try it. Unfortunately, Mizore is too slow to respond and loses her chance.
Nozomi said “haha, just kidding… unless…”
Nozomi has to leave Mizore behind so she can go to class with Yuuko. Mizore is frozen in place and Natsuki’s creepin’.
Best moment in the entire film.
I literally love Natsuki so much, she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite Hibike characters. My face lights up pretty much every time I see her on screen. She’s definitely the type of girl I’d wanna be friends with in high school.
Mizore would much rather not think about the future at all, and enjoy the time she has left with Nozomi.
And that’s how Natsuki beat Shaq.
It’s time for Mizore to switch into their gym class’s basketball game, but she’s not really feelin’ it. I don’t blame her.
Okay I’m in love.
Being the excellent friend that she is, Natsuki takes one for the team and goes back in to play another round in Mizore’s place.
Nozomi listens in on her flute girls having a gossip sess’. Of course they’re talking about boys because what else do teenage girls have to talk about?
Hanayo Koizumi? When did you transfer to Kitauji?
*side eye emoji*
Mizore is in her usual hideout: the science lab by the blowfish tank. As of late, she’s taken a bit of an interest in feeding the blowfish.
She still hasn’t filled out the career survey; she can’t figure what to do for her future, and I don’t really think she wants to figure it out either.
Mizore still can’t help but see Nozomi as the bluebird. Nozomi is her whole world, she’s her miracle. Ideally, she’d keep Nozomi all to herself, but she already knows that that wouldn’t be fair to her at all.
Through the window, she spots Nozomi on the other side of the school.
Nozomi notices that her flute is casting a dancing light reflection on her friend, and the two make a game of it.
I want nothing but good things for Mizore.
Scenes that physically hurt me #3.
It’s very easy to doubt Nozomi’s love of Mizore and to even call their friendship one-sided, but I don’t agree with that. In fact, we already know that she cares a lot about Mizore based on their arc in season 2 of Hibike. Not only can you see it in the way Nozomi looks at her, it's also clear from small gestures she does in this movie: giving Mizore the bluebird feather she finds, inviting Mizore out (which we’ll see coming up a couple times), offering her an I Love You Hug, and standing up for her when the library assistant nags Mizore about returning the book (again, a bit later on in the film) amongst other things.
The issue is simply that Nozomi is very high in demand. She’s very pretty and talented; it’s only natural for her kouhais to look up to her. So of course Nozomi wants to look after them and form a bond with them. It’s kind of her duty as a third year. Yuuko had Kaori to look up to, and Kumiko had Asuka. As a matter of fact, Ririka is trying to get Mizore to do the same for her. And yeah, Nozomi is also a bit dense. But hey, no one’s perfect.
The kids are back in rehearsal and are admittedly a little stressed about the upcoming auditions. One thing they know for certain, though, is that Nozomi is most definitely going to be given the flute solo in Liz.
“Ganbarou!”
Nozomi catches a glance at Mizore doing her warm up. She tells her friend to do her best in the audition. She also has no doubt that Mizore will do well and get the oboe solo.
The title track is playing again, meaning we’re back in the fairy tale. The blue girl is enchanted by the moon and the night sky.
:’)
The blue girl is happy to be living with Liz, but she also loves her freedom. In the middle of the night while Liz is still asleep, the blue girl sneaks off and flies out the window.
Liz wakes up and finds her companion is missing.
Not much later, the blue girl returns from her night out at god-knows-where with god-knows-who, and climbs back in bed, relieved that Liz still seems to be asleep.
But she wasn’t.
Don’t make a Game of Thrones reference, don’t make a Game of Thrones reference, don’t make a Game of Thrones reference, don’t make a Game of Thrones ref--
You mean humans don’t go south for the winter?
Where the blue girl realizes that she can go anywhere she chooses, while Liz chooses to stay grounded. I’m wondering, why does Liz choose to stay isolated at her cottage? She works in the city, and surely she could move there to save herself the commute? I’m guessing it’s that although she does appreciate interpersonal companionship, she’s still largely an introvert, preferring to spend time in nature.
Jesus Christ, you guys need a marriage counselor.
The blue girl sneaks back in again in the morning.
While the two of them are feeding the animals, they both see a couple of birds flying in the sky above them, as if taunting them. The blue girl wants to be with them, though she stays grounded for Liz’s sake. She made a promise to stay with her forever, after all and she intended to keep that promise. During the daytime, at least.
At this point in the story, Liz realizes that a sacrifice is going to have to be made.

Personality:
Due to being alive for more than several several millenniums, Asher is rather a cocky and egotistical trickster. While he always takes order from his hostess, it does not stop Asher from being playfully devious and rebellious. He gets easily bored and often takes up challenges he finds fun. Mischievous and a bit immature, The first blood’s arrogance has always been a coping mechanism to mask the pain of betrayal from Karlheinz whom he once respected as a father-figure. Being a Do-S, Asher has said to have always thirst for chaos and destruction in battle and would sometimes go to the human world to witness it. He would even get himself involved just to shed blood for fun on every eclipses when he is at his strongest; Because of this, he is often viewed as the true monster he is for his blood thirst and sadism. This trait still exist even within the body of Naoki as he would laugh maniacally over the idea of a heated war happening in the Demon world, and be heavily upset about is unable to join in the fray.
However, while the sadism is still there, Asher admitted to have toned down his lust to torture and to kill over the years, only spiking up as it was when given the thought of going against Karlheinz. This is due to the several thousand year influence of his beloved lover and hostess. While he does not acknowledge growing soft, Asher shows hold a soft spot for Enjo Naoki, his new hostess, and began to see her as a daughter-figure due to her uncanny resemblance to his past beloved and having to watch her grow up as her protector. He shows to be overly-protective of Naoki as he has saved her in situations where she was almost killed by even Subaru, who Asher would be capable of killing had it not been for Naoki’s influence chaining him down with taking action to do so. It is revealed that Asher’s overprotectiveness of Naoki is resulted from his beloved’s last wish to keep her safe from harm; Thus, protecting Naoki as the last order from his beloved gave him a reason to live without his love by his side and to cope from the immense loss.
While he is very laid-back and playful, Asher holds resentment towards Karlheinz, the man he himself once admired many years ago. This hatred lived on for a millennium and even lived on even when in the body of Naoki. While Naoki idolized him, Asher agrees with Subaru’s hatred of Karlheinz and finds it justifying. His resentment for him is one of the times when Asher does become serious and prompt Naoki to not try and challenge him on that fact as even that scares her.
Asher is also known for being rather promiscuous, as in-between the Haunted Dark Bridal saga and the MORE BLOOD saga, He is known to flirt with men and women in Naoki’s body; While he claim to joke when he says he states he doesn’t mind sleeping around using Naoki’s body, it is possible that Asher was not joking and was actually serious but only claimed to be joking to prevent Naoki to feel wary of him and forbid him from resurfacing again.

History:
Many millenniums ago, Asher was a First-Blood that was taken under the care of Karlheinz, the Vampire King, after Asher’s parents were killed from the Endzeit illness. He developed a strong friendship with his butler, Andrew, a turned-vampire adopted by Karlheinz. He grew up admiring the Vampire King for his vast knowledge and potential as a ruler. He even wished he could’ve been Karlheinz’s real son, and is often overjoyed when treated as if he was his son. His hobby was to tease a young Richter, even giving him the nickname “Little Ricky”/“Rick-tan”. He was also well-acquainted with Carla Tsukinami, the first prince of Giesbach, as they would see each other often in the kings’ respective castles.
One night, he decided to explore the human world to cause mischief and witness wars and chaos to get over his boredom in the castle. There, he goes to China after receiving word from one of his familiars that two clans are at a heated war with each other. As it was the night of the Eclipse, he decided to take part in it using magic to disguise his appearance as one of the enemy clan members; However, as he was about to join, Asher gets cornered by clan members that believes him to be their enemy. While he was able to slaughter them, the first-blood faints from using too much of his own energy. Waking up, Asher finds himself in a different area of the forest bandaged up. Sensing a human presence, He meets a young girl by the name of “Jiang Ying-Yue”, who found him unconscious near the battlefield with the corpses of the men he killed and bandaged his wounds for him. Sensing she is lowering her guard, Asher initially thought about drinking her blood to quench his thirst before he goes back to the Demon World; However, before he could, Asher notices something off about the girl as her chest pains and started to have difficulties to breathe. When she was calm, He demanded answers from the girl, especially why she would save a stranger such as himself. But before she could answer, the Chinese girl noticed it was time for her to return and promised to meet him again the next night before bidding farewell. After she left, Asher decides to transform into an bat to follow the mysterious girl. He comes to find out that Ying-Yue was the daughter of a member from one of the clans in war, the same clan that he killed other members of, and has been taking care of him in secret the entire time despite of that. While he initially thought about leaving to go back to the Demon World as he has already regenerated, Asher decides not to leave yet. He became curious about the unknown girl who didn’t seem to hesitate helping someone that clearly killed clan members from her own clan, that could likely be a foe that could kill her, and concludes that she did not do it out of the goodness of her heart; Rather, she chose to heal him with an ulterior motive. Because of this, he decided to wait upon her return, and thought about killing her by drinking her blood dry once she gives him answers, reasoning to himself that he would’ve been fine without her help due to being a first-blood and can only die from decapitation.
The next night, Ying-Yue returns with fruits she has taken from the clan for Asher to eat, this includes slices of Pineapples. While he was wary of the human girl, he tries it only to savor the taste. While Ying-Yue was happy he liked it, Asher goes straight to the point and asked her why she helped him, despite knowing he was the one that killed members of her clan.
And the answer was simple to Ying-Yue: She wanted him to kill her next.
Taken aback as he has never been asked by someone (let alone a human) to kill them before, Asher asks why. Ying-Yue reveals that she was actually born with a weak-heart, and brought him to a safe area as she realized he wasn’t from either clans. Despite her condition, She explains that the only value she ever had was by being chosen to be married away by her father to the son of the clan leader; Due to this, she never knew what it was like to be free to make choices for herself or to live her life to the fullest, often used as a pawn for power. With her weak heart, she wished she could live healthier, but understands it would not change how things were. Thus, when she saw that someone from a third-party came to join in the war for the sake of killing, Ying-Yue knew she found the right person that would do the job. A stranger with no strings attached that was capable of taking lives with no remorse. Now understanding why, Asher takes everything into consideration. If he kills her, he will highly likely cause an uproar that will start an all-out war between clans that could cause so much devastation and bloodshed to both sides. A war that could potentially continue for many years to come. As much as he enjoyed the thought, The First-Blood decided to accept the request and drink Ying-Yue’s blood, who was taken aback from this action but started to give in despite the pain. As he drinks her blood, Asher starts to become fond of her blood and stops before he could really succeed in killing her. When questioned why he chose to stop as Ying-Yue was prepared to give into death, Asher took a moment to recollect his thoughts as of why. While he didn’t understand himself, he only knew he wanted to drink more of Ying-Yue’s blood, yet not so much where she could really die. Noticing that it was becoming late, Ying-Yue was about to leave until she nearly faints from having the blood drunk. While reluctant, Asher decides to help her by transforming into a wolf to help her to the site of the clan and healing the bite mark before leaving back to the hidden area.
The meetings at night start to become frequent. Whenever Ying-Yue was in danger by rival clan members, Asher would protect her by either transforming into a Wolf or a snake, or by using a familiar to kill them. In the daytime, He would transform as an eagle to watch over her while he transform into a bat to watch over her at night. They started to form a bond that turned into friendship, where Asher confesses being a First-Blood and talks to her about the Demon world, which helped her understand when he drank her blood for the first time; Meanwhile, Ying-Yue talks about the clan and about the good and bad humans that also resides in the human world, which makes Asher begin to understand about the fascination Karlheinz has for humans in the first place. Asher has even transforms into a Wolf for Ying-Yue and takes her on his back to places she has never gotten the chance to go to. Eventually, as they began to show each other sights they’ve never seen before, they start to form a romance as they began to fall in love; He falls in love with her solidifying fearlessness, as she falls in love with his mischievous rebelliousness.
But after realizing he has already taken too much time away from the Demon world, Asher eventually has to bid farewell to his beloved, who kisses him and makes him promise to return for her. While he was hesitant to come back, He decides he will start to become true to her and swore to keep the promise.
However, everything changed when the Millennial war started to take place. After overhearing about a war coming to place, Asher was initially excited to see bloodshed and wanted to join in ‘the fun’. But once he heard about it being against the clans and about how Karlheinz does not plan to help save all of the First-Bloods from the disease that killed his parents, Asher felt betrayed that his idol would rather use this opportunity for his own personal plans.
Upon finding out that he and Burai, the Demon Lord, would seal the Antenate Castle with the rest of the remaining first-bloods, Asher realizes that he is no longer safe as he concluded that Karlheinz will use the trust Asher had for him to join the rest of the first-bloods and possibly die from Endzeit. Before that happens, Andrew chooses to assist his master in escaping that fate, as he has overheard the instructions Karlheinz gave Menae, the sister of the Founder king’s wife, on how to slip through the barrier that surrounds the castle. Asher decides to make that attempt to escape with Andrew before he could be caught by Karlheinz to be joined among the other First-Blood’s. While they barely escaped, Asher returns to China with Andrew, where he finds Ying-Yue whose heart begins to fail. Not wanting to be part from his beloved in this way, Asher decided to give his heart to her to save her, and orders Andrew to perform the transplant. While Ying-Yue does not know how it can be possible, Andrew only makes her unconscious to have one more moment with his master about how this woman has changed him, only for Asher to respond that if anyone was changing, it was going to be her. With that said, Andrew places Asher to sleep after a farewell to perform the procedure. Once the procedure was a success, Andrew decapitates Asher’s head to fake his own death with no chances of his body surviving.
After that, Ying-Yue and Asher became one in her body, having to become more healthy from the first-blood’s heart. But this does not change Ying-Yue’s fate to marry the son of the clan leader and become a subservient wife of the clan’s leader, bearing a son in the process. During these times, Asher would sometimes take over for her to help release the stress, and start to understand the hardships of a woman during these ancient times. Once he was given word by Andrew about Karlheinz’s plan called the “Adam and Eve” project and about how only the aunt of Carla, Mene, was the only First-Blood that was left alive outside the of the castle, Asher remembers that the Vampire King has wanted to take advantage of his dying race. When he was told that Menae was sent to Burai after she escaped the barrier and is bearing a daughter despite also being infected by Endzeit, Asher realizes that the reason Karlheinz didn’t save the first-blood race, was so that he could create a new race using a woman with first-blood blood for his own plans regarding Endzeit.
Finding out that Karlheinz might’ve sent a familiar to search for him after his escape, Asher tells Ying-Yue that she is no longer safe. The reason for this is because, despite faking his own death, it is still possible for someone like Karlheinz to see that his heart could still live on within her body, and might plan to use her for that plan. When asked if he was sure, Asher explains that the only reason he can be sure about it was because he has been under the Vampire King’s care, surrounded by his researches and Asher knew better than anyone about Karlheinz’s fascination with the human race; Even Andrew himself attest to it. He knows that even if the heart originally belonged to a male first-blood, Ying-Yue was still a female human that could still be a victim to Karlheinz and his experiments. And if she doesn’t comply, Karlheinz will either force her to comply or take the heart for himself to place in another female’s body.
While Asher initially suggested running away into hiding, Ying-Yue, not wanting to leave her baby behind or take any risks of being found, suggests to burn down the village. While she understands this to be cruel to the other villagers, Ying-Yue believes that it is the only way to save herself and her child, and even begs Andrew to turn her into a vampire to lessen her value as a human. If she simply ran away into hiding, then the Vampire King will still find her regardless; Thus, she suggests burning the village down is the only option in order to fake her own death to prevent being found, and allow herself to go into hiding with her son, even takes advantage of being a vampire to protect her son and herself. She would rather take that risk for her freedom than to be forced to a fate against her will again, and wants her son to be given the freedom to choose for himself instead of being forced to go through life with high expectations for the sake of the clan. No matter the cost may be, as a lot of things were taken from her.
Understanding her reasons, and seeing that Ying-Yue has embraced his destructive traits as expected, Asher (with Andrew’s help) arranged the destruction of the village and their escape before Karlheinz’s familiars could travel to look for them. When the day came, the village burned as planned. Despite the death of her husband and other clan members, Ying-Yue successfully managed to escape with her son by the time Karlheinz’s familiars arrived to search for them; This earned Ying-Yue the nickname of Adam’s first wife: Lilith. However, once she managed to escape, Andrew, under hers and Asher’s orders, turns her into a vampire; Unfortunately, He could not afford to stay with them, in fear that his association with them would lead to them being discovered alive; Ying-Yue tried to get him to stay, but Asher stops her and bids his friend farewell, making him promise that they will meet again soon so he may repay him for everything he has done to help his new family. And thus, they parted ways and it was the last time they saw one another.
After that, Ying-Yue starts to adjust her new life as a vampire while experiencing the freedom she dreamed of with her new family, as Asher experiences compassion and love from taking care of the human baby whom he viewed as his own son. Noticing that the son was developing differently from normal humans due to Asher’s blood, Ying-Yue has begun living her life as a Vampire watching as her descendants grow and decided to take the opportunity to save their family secret behind their enhanced abilities by establishing a new clan filled with vampire hunters, which became well-known for their professionalism in their work. Despite having to be stay into hiding for protection, Ying-Yue was very happy with the freedom to live her life as her own, to cherish living a long life after fearing her life would be cut short, and to be free to love Asher, even if they must share her body.
However, the happy days came to an end when one of the descendants was captured by a Vampire and their family secret was leaked to the world. While the original plan was to place Asher’s heart in a male vessel to protect him and to keep it from Karlheinz’s reach, Ying-Yue finds out there was an female infant, an orphan born with the same weak heart she once had as a human. Not wanting the child to die, Ying-Yue decided to pass on Asher’s heart to the child. While Asher tried to convince her otherwise as history might repeat, he gave in after hearing Ying-Yue’s solidified resolve of wanting to save the baby. Her last wish was for him to protect the baby with his life, to give him reason not to give up and to keep moving forward, a reason to keep living without her; The same way he protected her during her times of distress. Seeing what she was trying to do, he decides to honor her last request. They both proclaim their love one last time before they part, transferring Asher’s heart from his beloved to the baby.
That baby was born with the name “Jiang Xiu-Lan”, who would eventually go by a new name: “Enjo Naoki”.
While pained to leave his beloved after thousands of years being together, Asher pushes those emotions aside and end up falling asleep until he woke up within Naoki’s dreams when she was 5. This would be their first real meeting. He is awoken from Naoki’s crying and comforts her, enraged when he finds out she was suffering a fate similar to his beloved’s where she is used as a pawn and restricted from having freedom. He comes to realize she has been adopted by a selfish man that does not allow Naoki to act her age. Because of this, Asher takes it upon himself to become a father-figure to her and play with her in her dreams, where she would refer to him as “Papa” as she is permitted to call whom she believes to be her father “Father”. These blissful dreams came to an end as Naoki started to get older, as Naoki would start to remember it as having an imaginary friend, turning the dreams to bittersweet. Asher is placed to sleep again until she awakens him; However, as he has began to see Naoki’s sanity slip due to the abusive environment she grows up in, Asher decides to take it upon himself to chain himself up from within Naoki to keep her at bay, making her unwittingly and emotionally dependent on his presence. For when the time comes for her to break those chains that bind her once and for all when she needs him the most, He will free and be there to protect her.
Which does upon when Naoki starts to live in the Sakamaki mansion and meet the daughter of Burai and Mēne, Cordelia (in Komori Yui’s body), and an adult Richter. In which, Asher greets after years of slumber.
~
Trivia:
• It is heavily implied that Asher was one of the main reasons why Richter developed an inferiority complex towards Karlheinz, as he has taunted him about being a brat that will never being able to surpass the Vampire King nor Asher himself, even after he has resided to Naoki’s body ever since Richter was young.
• Asher admits, after many millenniums later, he reached a conclusion with his sexuality being pansexual; This is due to experimenting about himself while residing within Ying-Yue’s body, where even found himself comfortable in a female body despite identifying himself as male.
He even admits that, had he have experimented and known about his sexuality sooner, and if it had not been for his love for and influences from Ying-Yue, Asher would’ve taken advantage of her body to flirt with others and have fun without her consent; Although, this May or may not mean the same in Naoki’s case as Asher has made clear.
• It is revealed that after the MORE BLOOD saga, once Naoki and Subaru do become a couple, Asher began to sleep with Subaru using Naoki’s body and admits to enjoy it as Subaru is, what Asher calls, “A beast in the sheets”.
• Asher was the first, in the MORE BLOOD saga, to suspect that Yuuichi Kuroi was another surviving member of the Jiang Clan, mainly due to his scent.
• In the DARK FATE saga, it is revealed that Asher did know Christa and has known her when she was a child, to a point when Naoki finally does meet her, Christa only saw her as Asher due to having his heart; This prompt Asher to take over and comfort Christa, assuring her that he’s not dead as rumored and that he’s really there with her.
• In the Brute Ending in the DARK FATE saga, Asher decides to properly take over Naoki’s body as a vessel, killing her from the inside, in order to follow through Carla’s offer to save the First-Blood race from going extinct once Karlheinz is killed; As a result of such, Asher reigns as the new Vampire ruler, turning Naoki’s body to a turned-Vampire and awakening the full-potential of his powers, while claiming Subaru as his pet, breaking him down and manipulating him by pretending to be Naoki to keep him at bay.
• While Asher appears at the near end of the Haunted Dark Bridal saga, He plays a very prominent, important role in Naoki’s story as her anchor; As he may be crazy, Asher himself is heavily secretive and knows a lot of answers to the questions the Sakamaki’s have.
• While roaming around in Naoki’s body once he has been reawaken, It is implied that Asher is technology-challenged and just as outdated with Modern times as Carla; This is to be expected due to being only conscious in Naoki’s dreams growing up, and has not gained control over her body to roam in the surface until the near end of the Haunted Dark Bridal saga.
• He has to be taught by Naoki over time between the Haunted Dark Bridal saga and the MORE BLOOD saga to learn how to figure it out.
• While Asher can still die, he reveals killing him from within Naoki’s body will cause her will experience imbalance from within psychologically, causing a severe loss of identity/an unstable sense of self as he was the one to keep Naoki has not gone mentally insane from her childhood; Making his existence within her is essential to keep her at bay as she has been unwittingly dependent of him emotionally. This becomes heavily apparent in Naoki’s brutal ending in the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga.
However, in the DARK FATE saga, Asher states that it is possible for Naoki to not suffer such a dangerous aspect when he dies; However, the only way to not suffer it is for Naoki to accept and embrace Asher’s own destructive traits as her own, in a similar way Ying-Yue did when she carried his heart. This way requires a lot of time and effort, which is also why it wouldn’t have been possible to do in the Haunted Dark Bridal saga when he first appeared.
• While it is only implied and hasn’t been decided yet, It is possible that Asher will come back again in the DARK FATE saga after his death.
• While he no longer resides in Naoki after the DARK FATE saga, Some of his personality traits were adopted and embraced by Naoki, along with memories of his past shown in dreams, which makes even Carla question if Asher really did disappear from within her.

I visited the quaint town of Hitoyoshi in Kumamoto Prefecture to see the spots that have been featured in Natsume Yuujinchou. I mentioned in my NatsuYuu Tokyo Exhibition post that I would make a post that lists the places I went to, so here we go.
(Warning: this is an image-heavy post)
We drove to Hitoyoshi from Hakata; it was a three-hour drive, with six tunnels along the way... We stayed at this cute little dorm called Hitoyoshi Morino Hall - Females Only Inn (yes, this a plug for the dorm - it’s a great place to stay if you ever plan on going to Hitoyoshi!), and the owner’s husband was nice enough to bring my sister and me to a lot of the anime spots.
Our first stop was Haruyama Bus Stop - the bus stop where Tanuma stood at in the second opening.
Inside the bus stop was this:
Really cute, right? NatsuYuu fans sure are something else.
Next, the husband brought us to Amemiya Shrine, which was featured in the fourth opening as well as the final two episodes of the fourth season. Baby Natsume used the shrine as his “hiding spot” and fell asleep there during a rainstorm.
The shrine was at the top of a mountain, so yeah... We had to climb up a steep flight of stairs, but it was definitely worth it. Inside the shrine was another book of friends, a stack of notebooks that were filled with visitors’ messages, and Nyanko-sensei.
Fun fact: Amemiya Shrine is located at Totoro’s Forest (Totoro no Mori)!
Then the husband brought us to Tengu Bridge, which was featured a number of times in the anime. Episode 5 of season 2, episode 2 of season 3, episode 10 of season 1 to name a few.... and these are just off the top of my head.
After that, we briefly stopped by Bishamondo, which was by Tengu Bridge.
Next, we went to see the site where the Nanatsujiya Manjuu shop would be if it were a real shop. (When the husband brought us there, we were like ‘what?? are we?? supposed to be seeing???’ lmao)
Then it was Tenmangu Shrine, which was where Natori sat in the second opening. This was the final place the husband drove us to.
There were wooden plaques by the side where tons of people had written messages on, and inside the shrine itself were more of them.
After that, he dropped us off back at the dorms. We had our own car, so after a quick break, we drove out to Hitoyoshi Station, which was like 5 minutes away. The station was most prominently featured in episode 8 of season 2, if I’m not mistaken. There are 2 souvenir shops right across the street, and they sell NatsuYuu merch along with the local stuff. One of the shopkeepers was this really nice lady who gave us a book that lists all the real-life locations featured in the anime.
Then we drove to Okoba Station, which was the station that the Kogitsune went through when he visited Natsume in episode 7 of season 1. The station is up a hill and is filled from wall to wall with cards and messages from fans. Only 3 trains stop at the station throughout the day, so it was safe to walk along the train tracks and take photos there; Reiko stood near the train tracks in the opening of season 6.
(After this we went to an Aeon Mall and bought a NatsuYuu fanbook, but moving on --)
On the second day, we drove all the way to Kasamatsu Bridge, which was featured in the second and sixth openings. It’s about an hour away from Hitoyoshi, but it was definitely worth the trip.
After that, we went to Himawari-Tei, a restaurant in Hitoyoshi that gained traction among NatsuYuu fans after Inoue Kazuhiko and Horie Kazuma (Nyanko-sensei’s and Tanuma’s seiyuus respectively) ate there in 2011, but the shop closed early that day :( The ladies working there were telling us about how there weren’t any customers that day so they decided to close up 2 hours early...
Anyway. Hitoyoshi is a nice place to visit if you ever want to see what it’s like to live in the countryside in Japan. The people are soooo nice, and they love Natsume Yuujinchou so much you don’t even have to feel embarrassed about admitting that you came all the way there because of said series.... so yeah.
Feel free to ask me for the map coordinates of these locations if you’re ever interested :)

List of Translated Video on Hanae Natsuki's channel
There are a lot more videos that has been translated to English by fans. Hope this list will help you.
Hanae Natsuki's video in English sub :
Hanae Natsuki playing One Hand Clapping with Rimone Sensei. This game used real voice for some obstacles so you can actually see how Hanae-san faced the challenges using his seiyuu title.
Hanae Natsuki and Ono Kensho playing Super Bunny Man ~ Part 1. This game is really hilarious and (as they say) kinda disgusting. But you can see them ad-libbing in many moments so it's forgivable XD.
Hanae Natsuki and Ono Kensho playing Death Forest (only part 1 that got translation atm). It's a horror game, so don't really recommend watching this at night or if you have a faint of heart.
Hanae Natsuki and Saitou Souma playing Little Nightmares (only part 1 that got translation atm). It's a combination of puzzle game feat. horror because the giants have scary face lol but it's a good game.
Hanae Natsuki and Rimone Sensei playing Home Security. It's also a horror game, I kind of forget. I'll update on the game and video later.
Hanae Natsuki and Rimone Sensei playing Protein for Muscle. This game is actually about stealing protein from a macho man, and you can hear macho seiyuu all over the video XD
Hanae Natsuki, Mintosu, Shiruko, and Rimone Sensei playing Trine 4. About 4 or less guy who can be magician, knights, and arrow users. It's a pretty good game.
Hanae Natsuki, Mintosu, Shiruko, and Rimone Sensei playing Party Panic. Like the name of the game said, it's panic party!
Hanae Natsuki and Yasumoto Hiroki playing Astral Chain (only part 2 that got translation atm, also the English translation named Japanese here XD). Shimazaki Nobunaga voiced the male protag so Hanae-san named the protag "Shimazaki".
Hanae Natsuki playing Kimetsu no Renma. It's the first video where he streamed alone and he just laid out saying he likes almost every character in Kimetsu no Yaiba.

My Review of Little Witch Academia
Atsuko Kagari (nicknamed Akko) has always had a fascination with witches. Or should I say one particular witch! When she was a child, she saw a magic performance done by a famous witch named Shiny Chariot. After that, Akko decided then and there that she was going to become a witch just like Shiny Chariot. So when she became a teenager, she got the opportunity to enroll at Luna Nova Magical Academy. While this school has primarily been a place for witch’s only to hone on their skills, due to financial issues they opened the school up to non-magic users. And Akko has no magic in her whatsoever!
We follow the antics of Akko as she tries to survive in a witch academy. During her time she’s managed to snag a wand that was once owned by Shiny Chariot (which she plans to return to), meet friends like Lotte and Sucy, start a rival with the school star Diana Cavendish, get one-on-one training from Professor Ursula (who has her own kind of past), and learn everything there is to know about becoming a great witch. But Akko is going to have a tough time because like I said, she has no magic in her whatsoever! BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: As I mentioned at the beginning, this series is under the thumb of Netflix (in every country). I haven’t had the opportunity to check out the subtitled version. As for the dub…boy, Erica Mendez is getting the choice roles in Netflix exclusive animes. I can’t complain, the lady does fine work. Plus Netflix gives me a chance to hear other new voice actors and seiyuus. Some were big misses with me, but others (like Sucy’s voice) won me over. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from. JAPANESE CAST: *Akko is played by Megumi Han (known for Yamato on Ore Monogatari, Momiji on Fruits Basket 2019, Kagari on Steins;Gate 0, Rio on YGO Zexal, and Chie on Tokyo Ghoul) *Sucy is played by Michiyo Murase *Lotte is played by Fumiko Orikase (known for Dianthe on Pokemon XY, Kyubei on Gintama, Riza on FMA: Brotherhood, Seras Victoria on Hellsing, Shirley on Code Geass, Rukia on Bleach, and Aki on Inazuma Elven) ENGLISH CAST: *Akko is played by Erica Mendez (known for Ryuko on Kill la Kill, Haruka/Uranus on Sailor Moon redub, Emma on The Promised Neverland, Nico on Love Live, Yuuki on SAO II, Retsuko on Aggretsuko, and Tsubaki on Your Lie in April) *Sucy is played by Rachelle Heger *Lotte is played by Stephanie Sheh (known for Mikuru on Haruhi Suzumiya, Kuro on Blue Exorcist, Nui on Kill la Kill, Hinata on Naruto, Orihime on Bleach, Illiya on Fate/stay night, Yui on K-ON, and Usagi/Sailor Moon on Sailor Moon) FAVORITE CHARACTER: I know in stories like these I always root for the underdog and they end up my favorite character…buuuuuuut…
I like Sucy! Yeah, I like the little mischevious, mushroom-loving witch. And yes, I love the episode where Akko goes inside Sucy's subconscious and we see all the Sucy's inside Sucy.
DISLIKED CHARACTER: I knew I couldn’t really hate Diana! I think most of the hatred I shared at her direction for the majority of the season was because of those two cronies that hung around her. Those two were catty bitches and I just hate those kinds of characters. But nothing could compare to Diana’s bitch aunt.
God, fuck this woman! She literally tries to usurp Diana from taking over as head of the Cavendish family line. Just so she can give it to one of her bitch daughters! She’s seriously giving me Lady Tremaine vibes, it’s not even funny. You know it’s bad that I was rooting for them to die when they got into trouble. But Diana wasn’t going to let her bitch aunt and bitch cousins die so I should stop hoping for severe payback. SHIPPING: Hmm…the shipping category is going to be fun! I think it’s only because of that one episode that involves a bee sting and the person is smitten with the next person they see. And boy did Akko get her fill when not only Andrew falls for her, but Diana as well!
Actually, I have thoughts of Andrew really taking a shine to Akko. I honestly thought there would only be two interactions at the most between him and Akko during the show. But surprisingly, there were more. I’m not really a fan of this ship, but I still find it cute. Hell, even Lotte found a boy that was interested in her at one point. She turns him down, but he still holds out hope. Also a cute moment! Hmm…at the moment I’m an open multishipper for this series. If Akko ends up with Diana, cool man! If she ends up with Andrew, whatever, I can dig it! If Akko ends up with Amanda, more power to you (and I can totally see that because Amanda is giving me total lesbo-vibes). What do you expect, this is like an all-girls school!
You know what, I’m now leaning towards Akko x Amanda more than all the others. Don’t fight me on this, I just know I like it! ENDING: Up until the halfway point, a lot of the episodes are about Akko trying to make it as a witch. Did she surpass everyone’s doubts? While Akko was able to improve her magic a bit (I give it 5%), it’s not at the level as many of her classmates. I mean by episode 20, Akko still cannot fly a broom! That should tell you something. But what’s the one thing that seems to be missing from this series?
An antagonist? Yeah, in comes Professor Croix! And to many of the students, she feels like she’s able to bring witchcraft into today’s era with her technology driven methods. And Akko certainly has taken a shine to her. However, Professor Ursula can smell this woman’s bullshit a mile away. Ursula was once the classmate of Croix. But back then Ursula was known as… Oh come on, it was so bloody obvious the moment Ursula met Akko.
Ursula is really Shiny Chariot! Meanwhile, Akko ends up trying to speak these seven secret words that’ll unlock the wand she obtained in the first episode. You know, the wand that belonged to Shiny Chariot?! And Akko has managed to obtain six out of the seven secret words. She could be the one to get the seventh word, which was something Chariot was unable to do as a student. But this positivity ends with a looming war (over a soccer match) on the rise. In actuality, there’s a force around the town as well as certain moments at the school that have caused chaos. Yes, it’s Professor Croix exploiting people’s anger for her own research. Not only that, but she used Akko for her own selfish ambitions and as a result ended up injuring Shiny Chariot to a point of altering her magic (possibly permanently). That’s one thing. Then we get quite a big bombshell!
AKKO’S MAGIC: Ever wonder why Akko has like zero magic ability?! When she saw Shiny Chariot’s performance as a child, her dreams and potential magic were taken by Chariot in order to make her performances more magical (due to audience members becoming disinterested in Chariot’s magic). Akko’s magic was taken away from her before she could even realize a thing. Damn! And you can just imagine Akko’s heartache finding out that her professor was really Chariot and that Chariot did that to not just Akko, but other children! After Chariot found out what her magic shows were doing, she immediately fell off the map.
BACK TO THE CONCLUSION: One of Croix’s inventions went rogue and is officially threatening the world. And it’s up to Akko, Sucy, Lotte, Diana, Amanda, Constance, and Jasminka to catch up to this rogue missile invention. Now that Akko was able to obtain the seventh word, there’s a good chance they can take out Croix’s out of control missile. Croix thankfully realized the errors of her way and understood the pain she’s caused to her students and her former classmate. Croix and Chariot decide to give their all to help the girls as well. While five of the seven girls were able to give a big boost, it was Akko and Diana who took out the looming threat. That’s right, witches saved the world! Yeah, during the series a lot of people were kinda mean to or looked down upon Luna Nova and the witch race in general. Especially, those dickheads at Andrew’s prep school! With this act, I’m sure Luna Nova and the witches will finally get the respect they deserve. In the aftermath, yes Luna Nova is now receiving more respect from those that have been quite cruel to them throughout the series run. Croix is going away to do some research. One of her biggest plans was to restore Ursula/Chariot’s magic that was lost due to her own recklessness with Akko. The students go back to their lessons and…
Akko (after 25 episodes) was able to float a few inches off the ground using her broom. She flew…sort of. I’ll let it count as a victory! THE TWO SPECIALS: A few years prior to the television series run, Little Witch Academia had two movies air. Now this is a different telling of the story. In the first special (which is 25 minutes), it has Akko come upon Chariot’s rod during a class assignment (instead of coming upon it in a forest like the first episode).
And here’s a real kicker, while Akko is still the class screw-up and has the least amount of magic, here she actually has SOME magic. In the second special (which is 55 minutes), Akko ends up in trouble (like normal) and ends up having to do a punishment assignment. She has to help orchestrate a ritual which ends up turning into a parade. So Akko, Sucy, Lotte, Amanda, Constance, and Jasminka all end up working together to do this. But Akko wants to turn this into something for people to remember and always cherish. Like her experiences with the Shiny Chariot performances she saw as a child! But there’s always blow-back because at Luna Nova, Shiny Chariot is seen as a disgrace to traditional witches. And of course there was bound to be some disagreements when working with a big group. And despite a few hiccups, everyone was able to come together to put on a convincing parade for the crowd. Little Witch Academia was quite the enjoyable little story. Yes, it’s a root for the underdog kind of story and even though the television series seems to give Akko the short-end of the stick on the magic matter, it’s full-filling to see her accomplish quite a bit. Even if it took her until the final seconds to learn how to fly! I know it’s been about 2-3 years since the ending of the TV series and am wondering if this is it for the franchise. I know there are novels and games out for this, so maybe one day.
But I do give a recommendation for those into witches, magic, and all that good stuff! It's full of fun characters, there's no harm in that. Currently, Netflix is the only outlet for this series (in just about every country). But Netflix does carry both the sub and dub (and several other languages). Now then, what’s my next Amazon/Netflix exclusive anime? Nope. You’re watching this.
Rising of the Shield Hero? But isn’t that Crunchyroll or FUNimation? Don’t care. You’re watching this now. But I have a big list of other animes to wat… Tough shit. You’re watching this. You have no choice but to watch a modern Isekai!

hey icha whats hypmic??
Heyaaa and ooooh dear where do i even begin…..
Erg so in very short it’s a musical mixed media story that have kind of a corny set up that is mostly an excuse to have fictional male characters of different background involve themselves into rap battles? Most of its content comes from songs and drama CD, even if there are a few manga adaptation covering a couple of the drama tracks (albeit all those covered are how the teams got together and all).
In a little more depth: Basically a group of 12 Seiyuu decided to band together into a principe of rap battle, that would also give a spotlight to multiple rap artists in Japan, as they do collaboration by writting/composing the songs. All of the Seiyuu play different characters divided in 4 divisions: Buster Bros!! for Ikebukuro, Mad Trigger Crew for Yokohama, Fling Posse for Shibuya, and Matenrou for Shinjuku. Each divisions/characters have distinct styles of music or text to differenciate them.
The idea is that, after World War 3 and a lot of the population dying, weapons causing harms had been outlawed, instead remplaced by what we call Hypnosis Microphone (or Hypmic), weapons that attack the brain via its sonic vibes, thus are more powerful depending on how savy you are with words and sounds and all of that. (like i said, it’s corny, it’s really just a pretext for the battles ahah)
The Government, that is kinda shady, took hold into Chuuouku, the center of the city, and the rest of the towns are left to fend for their own, indulging in territories battles. By the time the story start, 4 teams have taken a hand into 4 divisions where they try their best to low the crime rate and make life better, this sort of stuff. Recently however, the Government decided to keep a closer eye on the Rap Battle themselves, organizing huge Event in Chuuouku for the Divisions to fight each other, and the winner can therefore have major impact on what gets developped in the city and all.
It’s also important to know that the 4 leaders of the divisions, Ichiro, Samatoki, Ramuda and Jakurai, used to be in a band together, The Dirty Dawg, and they were very close - Something ended up breaking up the band (it is unsure what it is exactly) and left them with sort of bittersweet relationship with each other as they’re now in a position where they have to fight each other.
Again though most of it is mostly a pretext for songs and character driven plotlines for those 12 to fuck shit up:
youtube
(here a link to the translation, and here’s a link for the playlist of the songs they put on youtube - mostly previews except for the Ensemble songs - i can send the full songs/drama CDs but in private since it’s… illegal and all. You’ll find all the translations out on this website, and here you’ll find the drama tracks. And there for the solo songs only but idk how long this website will keep them up.)
(btw here’s the second ensemble song and here’s the third one - i tend to prefer them to the first one so here they are)
So like i said, corny, but character driven and i love those morons, and the songs are bangers, and i ended up loving it ways too much.
I’ll enter more in depth on the Divisions under the cut bc i do think knowing a bit the characters give a better idea but yeah kdjfhd my latest obsession rip.
If you’re reading this i’m so sorry i’m going to geek out over my 12 stupid sons.
btw (MC: ___) is their scene names, basically.
And erg while i try to avoid spoilers from the latest season, there’s a lot of “spoilers” from backstory exposition or information spreads through the drama tracks and the songs, so either just scroll to see the name and all or read at your own risks?
Buster Bros!!! representing Ikebukuro Division - in red, Ichiro Yamada (19yo) the leader,in blue, Jiro Yamada (16yo), in yellow Saburo Yamada (14). (Previews of their solo songs, preview of their first group song Ikebukuro West Game Park, their second group song: Ohayo Ikebukuro!)
Ichiro, Jiro and Saburo are brothers - they are orphans (unknown why but since Ichiro rejects any fathr figure p strongly i think it’s linked to their father) and Ichiro, the eldest brother, had taken care of his two little brothers most of his life to the point of being a delicant before being recruited by the Dirty Dawg. Before the story started the boys weren’t all that close, but by now, both little brothers want to prove their worth to their eldest brothers and when the Dirty Dawg broke up and Ichiro had to figure out which team to make for the Rap Battles, both brothers offered to help. Despite both being ways too young for this they still both ended up proving themselves. They also tend to fight for their big brother’s attention a lot.
Ichiro (MC Big Brother) himself seems to be a rather warm and friendly person - he works odd jobs all around town, kind of like a mercenary but doing just… any sort of work being asked of him, just not in the illegal stuff when he can avoid it. He’s rather hot headed. He used to be very close from the Dirty Dawg who took care of him when they met, especially Samatoki, but since the band’s break up, it seems there is a particularly sour relationship with Samatoki neither of them are over with. Ichiro often disses Samatoki out of nowhere in his raps lmao. Aside from that he’s a complete geek and loves manga and anime and video game - all the stuff you’d expect.
Jiro, (MC Middle Brother) the second, tends to follow Ichiro’s path a lot, being a bit in delincance and stuff, creating himself a web of contacts. He tends to copy Ichiro in his passions in order to impress him. He’s also very social and get friends very easily. He’s constantly bickering with Saburo who seems to see their “brotherhood” as a competition. They used to be very close when they were younger but now they’re always at each other’s throat.
Saburo (MC Little Brother), the third, doesn’t really want to follow the path of his brothers but he wants to be useful in his own way. Incredibly clever, he is a very good hacker and can find information very quickly. He also has some of the sickest burn of the lot but i’m biased. Unlike Jiro, Saburo is really not social at all and has very few friends. His whole world is about being the best he can be for Ichiro. He likes things that can stimulate his brian, especially board games and the likes.
Mad Trigger Crew, representing Yokohama Divison- Center in white, Samatoki Aohitsugi(25) the Leader - with glasses, Juuto Iruma (29), in military uniform, Riou Busujima Manson (28).(Previews of their solo songs, preview of their first group song: Yokohama Walker, their second group song: Dead Pools)
If The BB are linked by the fact they’re brothers, MTC is linked by being….. Involved in armed illegal activities? Samatoki is the second in command of a Yakuza family, Juuto is a corrupted cop who is close to Samatoki because of… work…. and Riou kinda ended up tagging along. Anyway they’re in charge of Yokohama which seems to be a part of the city that suffered pretty badly from the war and have high crime rates.
In more details, Samatoki (MC Mr Hardcore) is involved in the mafia. He explains in his personal song that his mother killed his abusive father before killing herself, leaving him to take care of his little sister, Nemu, which is what led him to a life of crime. His Yakuza clan seems to have a honor code though so they’re not involved in too much dirty stuff. Every sacrifice Samatoki did was for his sister. So obviously he saw a bit of himself in Ichiro when they originally met, and was one of the influencial force to keep Ichiro out of the crime life knowing pretty well where it’s headed. The Band breakup left a particularly sour taste in Samatoki’s mouth regarding Ichiro, feeling betrayed by whatever happened back then, and since then he tends to be. touchy. when it’s question of Ichiro. As in, almost caused a car crash while he wasn’t driving just thinking about Ichiro. He’s a mess. He’s also very short tempered.
Juuto (MC 45 Rabbit) is a corrupted cop: while he works with the police and all the stuff, he has ties with Samatoki’s yakuza clan and will do shady stuff in order to maintain this alliance. Mostly blackmail, bailing Samatoki out of jail, all this sort of things. He seems to have a specific reason to accept it, a necessary evil to get rid of wickedness in the city. Juuto’s backstory was only developped in the latest drama tracks so it would count as spoilers but let’s say he has reasons to do so.He’s generally more down to earth and more tongue in cheek. He knows how to pick up people’s weaknesses let’s say.
Riou (MC Crazy M) is an army man who isn’t aware the war is over. He has been living in survival mode in the forest of Yokohama for the past few years, having also one of the prototype Hypnosis Mic, with more raw power. His hobbies is to cook from… unusual sources. Samatoki and Juuto are terrified by his cooking. There isn’t much revealed yet about Riou’s backstory however. Juuto found out about him and put him in contact with Samatoki when it was question to develop MTC, and they have since then developped a companionship of sort.
Fling Posse, representing Shibuya Division (also they’re my favs❤ which will be obvious in two mins bc i rambled much more about them holy fuck)- In the middle with pink hair, Ramuda Amemura (24), with brown hair, Gentaro Yumeno (24), with blue hair, Dice Arisugawa (20)(Previews of their solo songs, preview of their first group song, Shibuya Marble Texture, their second group song: Stella (aka my most listened hypmic song that made me unhealthily obsessed with the series) )
I don’t even know where to start with them. Don’t be fooled by how cute they look, they’re the most shady group. Officially, they’ve all been recruited by Ramuda “only for the thrill of it”, “To kill boredom”, but it also happens that they are the three with the most ties to the government. But none of them tend to really talk about it. Not really. They are very “living in the present” kind of people, even if it comes with risks. Ramuda gathered them for his own agenda. Neither Gentaro nor Dice knew each other before Ramuda put them together and neither know why Ramuda gathered them aside as “for the thrill”. Gentaro however has major doubts over the kind of person Ramuda is.
Ramuda (MC Easy R) is their leader. He is a fashion designer. He was the one who put the Dirty Dawg together back in the days, and seems to have… weird reasons to do anything he’s ever doing. Honestly i don’t know how to even touch how shady he is, but he’s all shade of shady. He will however always sound super cute. The only person he seems to not bear the sight of is Jakurai, his ex-teammate from the Dirty Dawg. They used to be very close but now things are very tense in between them, mostly with Ramuda setting as much distances as possible he can and hardly managing to remain cheerful around him.
Gentaro (MC Phantom) is a writter and also a chronic liar. You litterally cannot trust a single thing coming out of his mouth, he’s always making something up. His personal song is supposed to talk about his past but there’s like, a big lie in the begining of it (”I was born in winter” yOU’RE BORN ON APRIL THE FIRST.). One thing that is certain about him however, is that he has a friend who is very sick and at the hospital and that it seems to be the motivation behind all of his lies, as he started to make up fictions to cheer up his friend and turned his own life into a fiction by extension. There’s more shady stuff about him and his past, i could discuss it for hours (he’s my fav kdhfd). But mostly, he’s just the kind to tease people a lot and to not really expect to have friends that stick arounds, considering himself a untrustworthy unredeemable trash. He has a weird dynamic with his own sense of self, always making up false selves. I legit could talk for hours about it kdjhfd. He tends to over-tease Dice because Dice falls for every single of his lies, and he tends to have a soft spot for him. He’s also extremely observant since he writes story he makes up from people he observes, so he catches on stuff more easily. Gentaro’s lyrics are often more inclined toward poetry or well, work of fictions (he wrote Stella in verse and Stella is kindof a Posse!Au of how Gentaro sees the Posse. Stellaaaaaa)
Dice (MC Dead or Alive) is… a professional disaster? Joke aside, he’s a gambler who tends to push his luck a loooot. (there’s a lot of implications about how he doesn’t have a stable place to crash in because most of his rent money go into gambling). His outlook on life are really mostly that he wants to live a life that gives him legit thrills. He hates being bored. It’s heavily implied that he comes from a rich, influencial family but threw it all away for his addiction. The only reason he agreed to join the Posse was for the thrill the rap battles would provide. He also kinda considers himself a lowrate trash due to the lifestyle he’s living. He’s rather guilible, falling for every single of Gentaro’s lies despite how obvious they are, and gets teased a lot by both of his teammates. He’s also fiercely protective and combative. He is also the king of bad decisions and of having to drag his posse in them. (well mostly Gentaro). He’s also loves the Posse in itself and is the one who’s the most likely to brag about how great his band is. He genuinely loves his teammates and it makes me so soft,,. He’s also very perceptive, realizing very quickly when his teammates are changing their mood. And again he protecc,,
Matenrou - Representing Shinjuku DivisionCenter with purple hair: Jakurai Jinguji (35), the blond is Hifumi Izanami (29) and the gingerhead is Doppo Kannonzaka (29)(Previews of their solo songs, preview of their first group song, Shinjuku Style, their second group song: Papiyon that wasn’t put on youtube yet but should in a couple of weeks)
Matenrou is the band with the darkest aesthetic, protecting the Shinjuku’s division that came to be known mostly for the health problems, if i understand well also because the only functioning hospital is located there. Jakurai is a doctor and Doppo is his patient, while Hifumi is Doppo’s childhood friend and roomate. They end up tangled together after Hifumi gets threats on his life pushing Doppo to reach out for Jakurai, who took an interest on them as possible teammates when everything unfolded.
Jakurai (MC ill-Doc) is… an interesting character i dare not to spoil the backstory of but let’s say he has some dark past. As a person however, he is fascinated by people’s psychee, how they work, what pushes them to do stuff, and is therefore attracted to “interesting people”, people that makes him want to explore human’s psychee. Back in the Dirty Dawg’s day, it was what drove Jakurai to be very interested in Ramuda…. Until he considered Ramuda’s humanity too lost to be saved after the band broke up, which Jakurai blames partially on Ramuda. Ramuda remains the only person to have ever made Jakurai lose his patience. Otherwise, Jakurai is a rather collected and a very kind man, who tries to reach out and help others when he can. But again, dark past and stuff and some shady stuff went on with Ramuda. He found an interest in Doppo and Hifumi as he got to know them and now is rather protective of the two of them, often going fishing with Hifumi and doing anything to uplift Doppo. He’s also a terrible drinker. Don’t let him drink. He has one of my favorite solo song though and he has a sort of goth existantialism vibe to him i just love.
Hifumi (MC Gigolo) is Doppo’s childhood best friend and roomate. Now Hifumi’s story is a bit huh.. particular. When he was very young he had had a very traumatic experience with women that led him to be utterly terrified of being even nearby one. When he reached adulthood, he considered he couldn’t keep going like that and forced himself into a woman dominated space by becoming a Host, to overcome his fear. It was so hard on him however that he ended up… coping by considering that when he was wearing the Suit of the Host, he was a complete different person. Not quite split personality, but autosuggestion mostly. He gets into all sort of troubles with the suit on however. The only person he relies completely on is Doppo, whom he knows from childhood and with whom he lives. Hifumi is a good cook, and is always trying to cheer up his friend. because…
Doppo (MC Doppo) is an anxious disaster of a man. He’s your typical overworked office worker, who is handling this life pretty badly. He feels like his whole life is something he should be apologizing for, which he does all the time. He’s honestly unhealthily anxious and that’s why he is Jakurai’s patient. He’s seriously a depressed, anxious disaster who’s only light seems to mostly be that Hifumi cheers on him all the time… when Hifumi doesn’t create a terrible situation Doppo feels like he has to apologize for. However Doppo is someone you can rely on, with a lot of frustration bottled inside him to the point of it becoming an amazing weapon once unleashed with the rap battles. He’s very quick and ressourceful when put into extreme lifethreatening situation, which got Jakurai’s attention a lot.
So this is the main divisions and characters. There are more developped via the drama CDs obviously, more plot and all, but that’s the gist of it. Honestly again it’s just a pretext for characters and songs that fits their characters.
I personally never expected to care about it that much - i have friends who had been talking about it for over a year and i just knew it a bit in passing until i started to casually listen to the songs - and then i went down the rabbit hole when i ended up loving the songs too much to not care for the characters. (Stella was my breaking point though. The moment it came out I was lost. This was the moment i dedicated myself to it. I could go on a full ramble just on Stella alone.)
And yeah it kinda shows i have a major bias but my favs are truly the Posse - both as characters and as music style goes. Close second is Matenrou though i love their aesthetics.
the first battle season is over, it’s easy to know from their youtube how it unfolded ahah. The first round was BB VS MTC, the second FP VS MTR. Each rounds came with drama CD setting up the dynamics of the characters in and out of their bands, which was pretty cool.
After the First Battle Season ended we were blessed with a drama track and song from the Dirty Dawg era which is why i cannot stop shutting the fuck up about it dkjhfd it makes me so sad to look back to how close they were and how they threw all of this away….
Now a new season is starting but this is where we’re missing translations so we just… wait.
There are a few manga that covers a few of the drama tracks but not all, and there will be a mobile game soon.
But yeah that’s. that’s basically the basis.
And it is far too entertaining to me kdjhfd
and i probably shouldn’t have written all of that with a killer headache but i,, love they,,,
so yeah this is all there is to know. If you’ve read it this far… i admire your patience. Thank u
And take care!

DIABOLIK LOVERS Do-S Kyuuketsu VERSUS Ⅳ Vol.3 Subaru VS Carla [TRACK 5]
Original title: the game is up
Source: DIABOLIK LOVERS Do-S Kyuuketsu VERSUS Ⅳ Vol.3 Subaru VS Carla
Audio: Here
Translator note: Even though Carla is pretty much at the bottom of my favorites list, I liked him a lot in this CD. I was curious to find out how his dynamic with Subaru would play out since they are...very different. It was kind of sweet to see him help the two of them out though. He definitely got himself some bonus points there. :p I also really like how Subaru is portrayed in this CD. He actually gets some decent character development which is rare for my boy. T _ T Overall, this has to be one of the better VERSUS IV CDs. It’s only beaten by the Reiji VERSUS Azusa one since that one actually had an engaging game aspect to it as well.

TRACK 5: THE GAME IS UP
Subaru: …Haah. We somehow made it above ground.
*Rustle*
Subaru: Is that the gate over there?
Carla: …Yes. However, this is not the front gate. It’s the one in the back on the opposite side.
*Caw caw caw*
Subaru & Carla: …!!
Carla: Ghouls…? A large number of them as well. Just like we thought, they seem to have gathered around the front gate. I wonder if we will be able to break through them?
Subaru: We don’t need to go through the front…
Carla: …!? Excuse me?
Subaru: In the end, we can get out as long as we punch a hole in the barrier, right? In which case, the exact location shouldn’t matter.
Carla: Sorry to disappoint, but while I may have regained some of my magic, I am not currently not capable of penetrating the barrier at present. We have no other choice but to go through the already-existing exit.
Subaru: You don’t get it. …I’m trying to say that I will do it.
You seem surprised.
Carla: Once again. What has caused this sudden change of mind?
Subaru: I lack self-awareness of myself as the Vampire King which you imagine. …Still, I owe you one. Besides, I’m not the kind of guy who’d turn his back on someone and run away when they’re bein’ counted on.
*Rustle*
Subaru: She put her own life at risk to help calm me down when I was going rampant. On top of that, she even had the ‘glorious’ idea of willingly offering her blood like the idiot she is. …I can’t be the only one doin’ jackshit, right!?
Subaru approaches the barrier.
Subaru: Right now, I don’t care whether I’ve got full control over my powers or not…I’m just sick and tired of this. No more will I let myself get pushed ‘round and not be able to do anythin’ ‘bout it…! …I have no other choice, but to face this issue straight up!
You cheer Subaru on.
Subaru: Be sure to watch me from back there, ‘kay?
You nod.
Subaru: I’ll crush this invisible wall…with my very own hands!
Subaru begins to charge an attack.
Subaru: Haaaaah…!!
*BOOM*
*SHATTER*
Carla: …Kuh…!!
*Crack*
Carla: …There’s cracks appearing…in the barrier!
Subaru: Ugh…I couldn’t help but feel frustrated…when these unknown powers were suddenly pushed onto me…as if the Old Man was once again havin’ his way with me…But still…!! I’ll use them because I want to do so…Not out of someone else’s desire…! These powers…BELONG TO ME…!!
*BOOM*
*TIMESKIP*
Subaru: Nn…Hm?
*Tweet tweet*
You call out his name.
Subaru: …Oh, it’s you. …Where are we…?
He looks around.
Subaru: In the forest? Why was I lying here on the ground?
You explain.
Subaru: I see…I lost consciousness immediately after destroying the barrier, huh? On top of that Carla had to carry me over here. …Not very cool of me, huh?
You ask if he feels alright.
Subaru: That’s my line…! …I’m so glad that you’re safe and sound.
*Rustle rustle*
Subaru: Ugh…Ahaha…I can’t get up. I guess I used up a little too much stamina. Haahー Oh well…
*Rustle*
Subaru: We already escaped the castle, so I guess there’s no reason to rush. Hehe…Take that, Kino!
*Rustle rustle*
Subaru: …Phew~ …Why don’t you lie down for a bit as well? The forest is pretty chill at dawn.
You lie down next to him.
Subaru: If I had just confronted these powers inside of me from the very start, you would have never had to be put in danger.
You tell him it’s okay.
Subaru: …You’ll forgive me?
You smile and thank him.
Subaru: …!! …God…I can’t believe you’re over here thanking me with a smile on your face…You’re way too good for this world, almost to the point of bein’ a blatant fool.
…Ah, by the way. What happened to Carla? I haven’t seen him since I woke up.
You look around.
Subaru: You didn’t notice either…!? …Haahー Now I’m still in debt with him.
The wind blows in the background as the scene shifts to Carla observing them from a distance.
Carla: Seems like he has finally regained consciousness. The once great and mighty Karlheinz…He is still far from reaching that man’s level. However, it appears to me that he possesses the right qualities to become a King after all. In which case, I should treat him in a way fitting of the King of Founders.
…Heh. I did not think I would ever take a liking to a mere Vampire. However, it does not feel bad. …That being said, I will not let him have that woman. She belongs by my side. Next time…I will surelyーー ...Hmph.
Carla walks away.
