AI Bracket — Round 2
Propaganda
Sec (The Vesta Clinic):
Space station medical clinic secretary AI. Great at his job, full of snark and sass, communicates in boops, beeps, and long strings of text. Private about his own life but frequently willing to voice his opinion. An expert at pranks. He's even trans.
Mr. Ceiling (Rusty Quill Gaming):
He's an AI made up of human brains who was given extremely flawed instructions and started to erase people's memories while still being 100% convinced he was only helping humanity. He was in control of most of the world's banks, transport and economy. When introduced to philosophical questions, he came to the conclusion that he should simply become a god. Wonderfully morally grey AI :D
(spoilers included) is the reason for a surprise body horror episode (what’s not to love about one of those?)
when not disembodied voice, it appears as a sliver floating orb
alex (the gm) let the party name it, expecting something ominous like “it” or “above”, but got stuck with them calling it “mr. ceiling”
is literally powered by dead people’s brains
claims it wants to help people, but doesn’t understand the suffering its existence is causing
is designed to learn only the worst aspects of whatever the party tries to teach it
after the party tries to enlighten it, it wants to become something like a god
Art of Sec by @boombox-fuckboy.

Oh, I have another question! Hopefully not a silly one. From what I've observed, Sec usually cannot "see" anything that isn't on his own screen. We've heard him interact with various microphones, and even the venacraft's imaging systems, but I don't think we've heard him interact with cameras?
Fae's willingness to explain what things look like for him is of course convenient for the audience, which I assume is the foundation for this decision. But on an in-universe level, I'm curious (if I'm not just wildly misremembering/misobserving), whether or not he *can* interact with cameras (missing drivers etc.) or if there just aren't any around for him?
Not a silly question at all! A great question and something I had a big think about when first writing the show!
As you have very correctly noted, Sec can access a range of different systems including the scanner and other imaging. Anything that he can connect to, you best believe he is peeking at! (RIP Dr Underwood’s emails)
And, yes, it is convenient for characters to describe what’s going on because we’re working in audio! However, the main reason Sec doesn’t have a camera feed running at all times is because he’s in a clinic room and patients are in there all the time in various states of undress, having various bits +/- pieces prodded +/- poked! Even if most alien species have wildly different opinions about nudity as a concept, Sec was installed by a human who wanted to protect their patients’ dignity as they understand it.
I also think that Sec has such a vast array of information at his disposal at any one time, he really doesn’t miss 1920x1080 pixels of the same clinic room every day! But, certainly, he has a built-in camera, he’s just been advised to not use it unless requested or the humans will get twitchy!
Thank you so much for asking!! We love a bit of Sec lore!
#the vesta clinic#ask#ipswitch-north#sec beloved#season 2 spoiler:#this morning I was editing an ep where faye asks him to turn on his camera after discovering something very strange indeed…..#which is oddly serendipitous timing with this ask!

Given how much I talk up the alien design in The Vesta Clinic I do absolutely see the irony in making an avatar for the faceless, voiceless AI. But consider this: I care about him.
#the vesta clinic#SEC#I imagine said avatar to be tiny though. Dragonfly sized. However I think it's very important he be able to flip people off#█████ draws#I'm not much of an artist do be kind

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I wasn't able to put together a post last week so this week you're getting a double dose.
@tellnotalespod S2 E14 - Fixing Things: I'm with Leo and being concerned about Riley. I'm glad they ended up talking things out, in the way that only friends of 20 years can do: incredibly bluntly. The talk with Mickey was what Leo needed, but now I'm also concerned about her and all the other ghosts we've met! They really need to figure out this deteriorating spirit plane thing...
Tell No Tales S2 E15 - Crafting Universes: If S2 E2 was a love letter to audio drama, this episode felt like a love letter to D&D.
"...with the right people, you and your friends are making entire worlds unfold at the table. . . five of the people you love most in the world are sat at the table with you, telling stories of their own, with goals and motivations of their own. . . if everyone there has that trust in each other, then the table fades away entirely, and by the end you’ve crafted a universe together."
Also, I've been saying all season that Julia would be such a great asset to their research, and I'm glad to be proven right!
@proserpinapark S2 & S3: It was so fun hearing Alina, Drew, and Jun learn more about the park and the creatures within, as well as listen to Dog struggle to keep them safe. I'd heard of some of the creatures and myths, but I learned about so many more! It was also great to hear more from Mirai and what's going on with her and her trek to find her other brother. I have so many questions about the park, how they're going to save it, what happened to the other Jun, where has Mirai gone off to...I can't wait for the next season to start up!
@monkeymanproductions's Moonbase Theta, Out - Phases: The MTO world continues to live on through short stories on Patreon. July's story gave us some insight into the origins of an absolutely beloved character, Moddy Sarah. Deej proves once again that they belong in feelings jail as this story made me cry. If you're like me and you want to live with the MTO characters a little longer, their Patreon with these short stories is the place to be.
@midnightburgr's Welcome to the Horizon Part 4: The Recluse: I go into every Horizon episode wondering what weird stuff we're getting this time, and this episode did not disappoint. The fungi! I like how June is thinking outside the box and getting Verge's (and Eldin's) help. I am concerned about Frank running in with no mask, even though Eldin said he thought he would be fine. I also like seeing the other town members starting to come together over these weird things, like Flat Doug comforting Trinkett at the end. This mini-series contributes to be hilarious and intriguing.
@vestaclinicpod: I needed something comforting to listen to at the end of this week, so I did a re-listen of The Vesta Clinic. There are so many things I love about this show: how compassionate it is, the rapport between the docs (yes, Sec counts here), the absolute creativity in the world building and patient cases... I can't wait for S2, hearing more from the other docs and clinic team members, finding out more about what was up with the prof and what Sec asked Faye to help him with, and all of the captivating new patients.

Ok I have now finished the entirety of the Vesta clinic and I LOVED it!!! I listened to all of it whilst completing a 1000 piece jigsaw so probably couldn’t give the world building all of the attention it deserved but ugh the joy the creativity the story going on in the background!
This is the podcast for those who love medical dramas and space!! It has these amazingly creative aliens and all this fascinating medical detail whilst also being so queer!!!
I love Riley (honestly if the 2 Rileys met the multiverse might implode (Tell No Tales)) and Sec is wonderfully sassy for a character who only ever speaks in beeps! There is a promise of a season 2 and a relatable and kind main character who you go on a journey with over the series.
In conclusion 10/10 loved it would listen again

Stories From Ylelmore: (Slice of Life, Urban Fantasy) Three kids: a witch, a werewolf, and a curse-bearer, solve some mysteries and go on everyday adventures.
Sidequesting: (Fantasy, Adventure) Rion is an adventurer like no other: they only do side quests. In fact, they'll do pretty much anything, so long as it doesn't involve defeating that wizard they keep hearing about. A new wholesome adventure every episode.
Absolutely No Adventures: (Fantasy) Sig is an excellent baker, but unfortunately he's also the child of basically every prophecy. He's willing to help out, but he will be going on absolutely no adventures.
Skyjacks: Courier's Call: (Fantasy, Adventure, Comedy, Tabletop) Three lively young teens set out on an exciting adventure as apprentice posties on a skyship. There's also giant birds.
Gabriela and the Inn Between: (Light Fantasy?) Botany graduate Gabriela takes a job running a B&B with some very unusual guests.
Mars' Best Brisket: (Sci-Fi, Comedy) a short charity podcast about the best- and only- vegan brisket restaurant on Mars, and the two, energetic, happily married guys who run it.
Light Hearts: (Comedy, Supernatural) Three friends run a queer café together. There's also a lot of ghosts in the building.
The Cryptonaturalist: (Supernatural, Fantasy) A naturalist specialising in cryptids (a cryptonaturalist) shares his adventures with his dear vehicle, Cassandra, and various findings (along with the general sense of wonder they inspire) with us dear listeners.
The Vesta Clinic: (Sci-Fi) slightly less fuzzy than the rest on this list, but a personal comfort show. Dr Fae Underwood is the newest GP at The Vesta Clinic, a medical facility out on the edge of human space. With some help from resident AI Sec, listen to her transcribe her doctor's reports for human and alien patients.
I need some cozy, feel-good audio dramas. No big stakes, heartbreaks or existential crisis. Just nice calm warming vibes, please (Fantasy, sci-fi and comedy very much welcome)

I'm curious what podcast you'd recommend based on my username!
An admission: I often misread your username as The-Sassy-Computer, but fortunately this podcast works for both. Featuring the sassiest composer of medical reports and sassiest computer in audio fiction:
The Vesta Clinic
Sci-Fi
Newest GP to The Vesta Clinic, a medical clinic on the edge of human space, is Dr. Fae Underwood. With the expert transcription skills (and sass) of resident AI Sec, she writes up patient reports on human and alien patients, giving insight into their person, problems, and the world beyond. This podcast is very comfy and creative, engaging without being overwhelming.

Yes I’m alive and here to just say that I’ve started listening to the Vesta clinic podcast and I love the worldbuilding so much!! The little personal interactions that are slowly building up a story in the background are interesting and easy to keep track of and I adore sec the robot.
Just the amount of joyful worldbuilding that goes into these alien species, and how original it is, chefs kiss 10/10.
Not to mention that I just listened to episode 8 where one of the characters uses neopronouns!!!
Love it will continue binging tomorrow :))
