ATP Hunger Games Simulator

With relatively little tournaments going on now post-wimbledon, i've decided that the next best thing is to watch the atp top 25 (minus rat) fight to the death in the hunger games. Since that's also not an option, i'm left just simulating what would happen if they were in the hunger games. So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, meet the cast:

And it's lights out and away we go!

Day 1

And already, there are casualties. Local american idiots Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz team up to fight brit Jack Draper and honorary brit Alex de Minaur. Unfortunately, Ben and Taylor don't make it. Rip american idiots. You found each other in every universe.

As the day goes on, we don't see any more casualties. However, faa is pricked by thorns, which is about the most action so far. Oh and Hubi sparing Lorenzo's life like the gentleman he is. Daniil with explosives, a great combination i'm sure. As night falls, 2 cannon shots can be heard in the distance. Rip Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz.

Night 1

Some very interesting groups. Not sure why Lorenzo would want to hang out with the guy who just defeated him in a fight, but it's his decision. No more deaths yet. Sebastian Baez is a mood.

Day 2

Novak Djokovic with a spear is something that everyone should be afraid of. But having said that, it is Jack Draper who kills Felix Auger Aliassime, who evidently has not recovered from his earlier thorn prick. Jack - 3, everyone else - 0. A cannon can be heard in the distance. Felix Auger Aliassime, taken from us too soon.

Night 2

Everyone prefers night matches apparently, because all the action is happening at night! Both Chileans fall at the hands of the ruthless Sebastian Korda and the merciless Andrey Rublev respectively. Rip Chile, you had to put clothes on eventually. Alex de Minaur has opted to keep Lorenzo Musetti alive. This is the 2nd time someone could have killed Lore but his puppy dog eyes must have won them over. Will this come back to bite him in the arse? Honestly, i wouldn't need much convincing to snuggle up with Alexander Bublik.

Day 3

Hubi the gentle giant not so gentle, forcing Bublik to kill Karen. If i was Sebastian Korda, i too would question my sanity. I wouldn't even have to be in the hunger games. Alex keeps letting people live, which is nice of him, but what other chance are you gonna get to eliminate the threat that is Novak? Biggest news though, the number 1 seed is out! Yes, Jannik Sinner has been killed at the hands of Sebastian Baez. 4 cannon shots can be heard for the Chileans, Karen and Jannik.

Night 3

Not much to say here, except that Tommy Paul might have an infection, Stefanos is thirdwheeling ruru, and Jack shows mercy for once. Also, i've heard Novak sing in that backhand boys video, and he didn't have the worst vocals.

Day 4

A lot of sanities being questioned. Tommy Paul tried to be too clever and it has backfired on him. Sebastian Korda is the last North American standing. In a repeat of the Dubai semi finals this year, Ugo Humbert has taken down Daniil Medvedev. Is the arena filled with clay? Sebastian Baez seems to be enjoying himself though. And glad to see Andrey try to fix his sleep schedule. 2 cannon shots for Tommy and Daniil.

Night 4

Another night, another Tsitsipas rizz masterclass. First cuddling with Sascha, now holding hands with Jack. In revenge of the Acapulco final, Casper kills Alex. Between this and Daniil, mouse man nation has truly crumbled.

Day 5

It seems like his age is finally catching up with Novak, whose ankle gives out after a chase by the fitter Andrey. After scaring him in Day 4, Holger doesn't finish the job and spares Korda. Maybe he felt bad for the jumpscare? But in a huge twist of events, evidently Bublik hasn't gotten over Hubi forcing him to kill Karen, so he enlists the help of Carlos to get revenge. Poor baby Casper is pricked by thorns. I wonder how he'll fare?

Everyone has failed their mandatory drug test and begins to hallucinate. Sebastian Korda wins the Sebastian Derby, and there goes Latin America's last hope. Both Carlos and Novak die hugging tracker jacker nests. Maybe it's a grand slam winner thing? Also Lorenzo and Holger attempt to run away to wonderland together, but their doomed love story ends there. At least they died together. I know the French eat snails but apparently they also eat scorpions too. And this one is a doozy. A whopping 8 cannon shots can be heard for Alex de Minaur, Hubi Hurkacz, Sebastian Baez, Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, Novak Djokovic and Ugo Humbert. At this point, i'm beginning to get scared that Sebastian Korda might actually win this thing.

Night 5

Korda continues his reign of terror, taking out Bublik. Grigor dares to dream, something that he hasn't done in a long time. Probably.

And it's time for the feast!

Oh my! Andrey Rublev has always been a wanted man, but now it seems like he's wanted more than ever, and not in a good way. Grigor doesn't go to the feast. At least he didn't see his lover die.

Day 6

Grigor goes and takes revenge for Andrey's murder, but ultimately decides against going through with it. 2 cannon shots can be heard. Rip Alexander Bublik and Andrey Rublev.

Night 6

Poor Grigor, still haunted by his dead lover. And here's another weird statistic for the atp, tree related deaths - 2. You heard that right ladies and gentlemen. Two people have died from tree related incidents: Jack from falling out of a tree and Sebastian Korda from being stabbed by a tree branch. Ouch. At least his reign of terror is now over.

So, who is still alive?

After flopping on the atp tour for these past months, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Grigor Dimitrov suddenly find themselves with a chance at victory. Will it be the iceman Casper Ruud who will find himself winning a title bigger than a 250? Will the balding, bisexual, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov win his 2nd title since 2017? Or will Stefanos "daddy issues" Tsitsipas prove that he can win without on-court coaching? Stay tuned to find out.

Day 7

Casper goes back to his Scandi roots and builds a shack worthy of rivaling ikea furniture. 1hbh off and Grigor runs away, knowing he can't shank the ball as well as Stefanos can. 2 shots can be heard for Jack Draper and Sebastian Korda.

Night 7

Stefanos wasn't invited to the cuddle party. The shock of that was too much for him and he passed out. Not fatally though.

Day 8

Stefanos, in awe of Grigor's backhand and slice, knows he cannot compete with him, begs to be killed. Grigor keeps him alive anyway.

Night 8

If this were another genre, it'd be the start of a smutty threesome. But it's the hunger games, so two of these men are gonna be dead come tomorrow.

Day 9

And what's this? Grigor Dimitrov has died from thirst. What a way to go though. And Casper Ruud from district 4, killing off his title contender for king of flopping, has won the hunger games! Congrats king, i hope you win a real title soon.

Hannover, the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony, isn’t the most picturesque city in Germany: after the Second World War it not only lay in ruins but under the aegis of city planning director also was transformed into a very car-friendly city in which urban motorways cut through the originally quite dense prewar city quarters. Fortunately not all significant prewar buildings fell victim to either bombs or the wrecking ball and also in the decades after the war numerous architects added interesting buildings to the city’s urban fabric. Many of them have been documented over time by a multitude of photographers but their interiors have frequently been left out, a circumstance that Hannover-based photographers Olaf Mahlstedt and Marc Theis change in their most recent book project:„Hannover: Innen - Ein Fotografie- und Lesebuch“, published by Leuenhagen & Paris, collects beautiful interior photographs of pivotal pre- and postwar buildings. Among the latter are the stunning vault of the Deutsche Bank (1898-1900) by Karl Börgemann or the cinema in Fritz Höger's Anzeiger-Hochhaus (1927-28) but also often overlooked postwar buildings like the bright and cheerful Mühlenberg School (1975) by Bassenge/Puhan-Schulz/Schreck or the in the meantime demolished Postscheckamt (1972-73) by HPP Architekten in collaboration with local Oberpostdirektion. But what sets the book apart from the regular architecture (photography) books isn’t the careful selection of photographs alone but the the contributions of writer Sebastian Hoff: alongside each of the building’s set of photographs Hoff wrote short stories that directly engage with the buildings and the goings-on inside of them. The result is a variety of touching stories that range from a granddaughter discovering the secret her grandmother hid for decades in a deposit box at the Deutsche Bank to a post employee saying goodbye to her decade-long workplace at the Postscheckamt in a letter to a friend prior to the building’s demolition.

These emphatic stories forge a direct relationship between the reader and the and photographs and initiate a reflection about the all the other stories written into the different buildings’ histories. This unusual juxtaposition of poetry and architectural photography was a risk taken by Theis/Mahlstedt/Hoff but it paid off handsomely and makes the book a truly wonderful read!

{¤} It's not too surprising to find out Fritz has already met Maru. No offense to him or anything, the bandaid on his face just gives Sebastian the impression he winds up at Doctor Harvey's often. He can also vaguely remember Maru talking about Fritz, even overhearing her talk about how Fritz might bring some much needed joy into his life. Sebastian rolled his eyes at the time, but now he reluctantly agrees with Maru on something for the first time in ages. She's probably going to rub it in his face...

"I guess Demetrius is the only one you haven't met yet. He's...Maru's father."

Sebastian shouldn't have mentioned Demetrius. Hell, part of him regrets mentioning Maru after having to listen to Fritz call them "siblings" even though it's just a factual statement he's reading too much into. Will Fritz stop seeing Sebastian as the kind person he wanted to befriend after bearing witness to him distancing himself from his step-father and half sister?

At least Fritz understood the significance of the nickname "Sebby". One less thing Sebastian has to be vulnerable about.

A sad chuckle slips out of Sebastian when Fritz says he should talk to Robin, already knowing that he's going to be ignored anyway.

"I kinda just showed up to make sure Mom was still alive because she hasn't been home in a while. Her entire world disappears when she's in Construction Mode, family included."

Just as Sebastian prepares to carry some firewood, it looks as though he has something (or, rather, someone) more important to hold in his arms. He scoops up Fritz with no trouble at all, being used to lifting up heavy things between helping Robin and working on his motorcycle. The drumset is pretty heavy too, though it's been a while since he's had to carry it anywhere. He should probably place Fritz on the ground because it's weird to be carrying someone he just met...but it's probably not a good idea to have Fritz put pressure on any part of his body after taking such a hard fall.

Yep, that's why Sebastian is still holding him. There's no other reason behind this decision. Not at all.

"Hey, are you okay? Maybe I should stay the night to make sure you're being cared for..." {¤}

{¤} Sebastian wasn’t expecting to warm up to the new farmer so soon, but something about him that makes it impossible not to like him. Even the two faux-pas that would normally be strikes against him are easier to gloss over. Not completely brushed aside, but Sebastian can’t bring himself to hold a grudge over genuine mistakes.

“Yeah, I can see how you wouldn’t know. Maru is her daughter, you might’ve seen her working as Doctor Harvey’s assistant.”

The debatable cleanliness of the farmer’s hand doesn’t stop Sebastian from shaking it. He’s the son of a carpenter living in a small rural town. If he were adverse from getting his hands dirty, he would be more proactive about trying to move away.

“Oh, Fritz—like a mashup of Friedrich and Fitzgerald, right? That’s cool!”

Well, cute is a more accurate way of describing Fritz—a personified puppy of sorts. Still, it’s probably not a good idea to call someone cute during a first meeting. Cool doesn’t cause unnecessary misunderstandings or bruise peoples egos.

“My friends call me ‘Seb’. ‘Sebby’ is…sentimental.”

Sebastian turns to look at his mother again, hoping Fritz would understand what he’s implying, then returns his attention to Fritz.

“What were you doing before I interrupted you? Anything I could help with?” {¤}

「 ☆ 」   Sebastian seems like a pretty friendly guy. Fritz wouldn’t be surprised to discover that the town is bursting with friends of his, and the unfamiliar farmer feels a burst of pride blossom in his chest at the idea that he gets to be the newest one.  ❝  Oh hey, I know Doctor Harvey!  ❞  Fritz excitedly replies, memories of visiting the clinic for various injuries shooting to the forefront of his mind. Harvey seems like a nice guy. Concerned about those who come in, as any good doctor should be. Maybe a bit exasperated about Fritz’s tendency to get injured. Both from the whims of fate as well as his own poorly-made decisions… But Fritz can’t help but admire Harvey for it. That just shows how dedicated he is to the well-being of others.

Although, something about the Doctor seems a bit… off.

A lingering aura of sorrow radiates from him. Amongst the care and the chiding, there’s a reservation around Harvey. Something that’s wormed his way into Fritz’s mind, the farmer deciding that whenever he happens to harvest his first crops— first he needs to figure out how to grow things, but that’ll come eventually —he’ll gift some to the Doctor as a way of saying thanks and hopefully picking up his spirits. 

❝  Maru is a real nice gal too! She always seems to have a smile waitin’ fer me whenever I stop by. No wonder you two are siblin’s.  ❞  Fritz adds with a laugh, marveling at how he’s managed to meet so many people from this family without even realizing it. First Miss Robin, then Maru, and now Sebastian… Wondering if there are any more people he has yet to meet— families come in all shapes and sizes —he decides that the more the merrier. Especially if it comes from a family as kind and helpful as this one.

I would say “no other country is like this” but it’s not even the country, because american women’s tennis doesn’t have this issue. no one is like “ooh, is coco, jess, or madi keys the real american number one?” no, nobody says that, they just let them play tennis and look what happened, coco won a slam. the culture around american men’s tennis is so incredibly toxic. I’ve watched a lot of taylor fritz matches this year and every time, without fail, they introduce him as the number one american. every time. does daniil frequently get introduced as the number one russian? no. does jannik frequently get introduced as the number one italian? no. and yet for some reason, the “american number one” is presented as this prestigious, coveted spot, but all it does it put extra, unnecessary pressure on american men. and it drives me insane the way the tennis world and the media will hold one of them up and then immediately drop them when one of the others starts doing well. the second taylor won indian wells, it was “oh he’s gonna win a slam he’s gonna be the next great american” then frances made the semis of the us open and it was “taylor who? frances tiafoe is gonna win a slam” then tommy paul had his ao run and people jumped on his hype train, and now ben shelton, who is literally just starting out on tour, has this added pressure of “forget the other three guys, he’s the next great thing, he’s going to win a slam” and don’t even get me started on sebi korda. if he was from literally any other country I have a feeling no one would care about him but all of a sudden we’ve got people claiming he’s the “real best american” because he had a couple good matches against medvedev and djokovic. not “a top 10 player” or “future slam winner”, just “best american”

the truth is, they’re disposable to the media. they’re each one fifth of the same whole, not their own people. there isn’t taylor, tommy, ben, frances, and sebi as individuals in their eyes, there’s just “the american”

Once they reached the entrance, the first thing he saw was an angler light bulb. But as they continued to crawl over, it was a normal human head, but an odd teal-ish skin toned child.

"What was that.. did someone call me?"

Sebastian clasped his claws together in front of him as he studied the newcomer, ear fins giving a curious twitch. This was.. definitely a new sight.

"Oh, hello. That would've been me. My name is Sebastian, a local merchant of sorts. If you didn't hear me the first time, then I suppose I'll say it again: I will trade some of that useless research you might've collected on your journey here for some much more helpful items, if you wish. Whenever you're done, the keycard to the next door is on the table over there for when you're ready to leave."

The saboteur flicks his tail a bit to draw attention to the item pouches strapped to him, the items rattling against his scales with the motion, before one of his clawed hands points at the blue keycard sat on a table, next to a radio that buzzed and fritzed. Then he turns his head to focus once more on what he assumed was an EXR-P in front of him, a frown plastered across his face.

"You look.. Different from the Expendables that come through here usually. And rather young to be down here in the first place. Has Urbanshade really gone as low as to start sending children down here now?"
