"Where Are You, Boot?"

"Did Chen do that thing?" Miles asks between bites of lettuce, trying his best to stop the sauce from dripping down his chin.

"What thing?" Seth puts his own sandwich down in favour of his drink, taking a long thoughtful sip.

"You know..."

He feels himself lurch forward, his head narrowly missing the dash. Heaving, he waits for his senses to return as he makes sense of everything.   "I've been shot!"   "What?!" His head whips around to face her, giving her a cursory glance as he tries to figure out if he misheard or if there's something he's missing.   "I've been shot, boot." She repeats, enounciating each word in the hopes he understands the severity of the situation. "You have to call for help."   He hadn't heard anything... She looks fine, nothing like what he's heard of about being shot, but he pulls out his radio, giving her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she's been through this before. Maybe she's stronger than they've given her credit for...   "Dispatch, this is 7-Adam-19. I need an-"   Snatching the radio from his hand, she dismisses the call and shoves it to her side. "Wait until I have finished speaking, boot." She growls.   "You have to call for help." She repeats one last time. "Where are you?"   Eyes wide, he searches for a sign, a landmark, anything that might assuage his T.O. even if just for the moment. He knows this place, but he just can't-   "And now I'm dead." She leans back in her seat, sighing as she returns the radio. "After five minutes, I want you to name every road we've passed and at least one landmark."   "Yes ma'am."  

"Did Bradford?" Seth asks him back, hoping he wasn't the only one who felt like he was being hazed. It's his first day on the job, can't they cut him some slack? He knows he's a bit slower than most, and it takes him some time to process and adjust... 

"I owe Bradford 20 bucks." Miles says in lieu of an answer.

"What?" Seth crumples his wrapper, tossing it into the empty carton.

"Bradford was Chen's T.O., says he practically taught her everything she knows." Miles smirks knowingly. "Though I think there's something more going on if you know what I mean."

Seth furrows his brows. "I don't think Sergeant Bradford would appreciate you talking that way about him."

Shaking his head, Miles continues. "You should've seen the way he reacted as soon as you mentioned your call sign. His knuckles turned so white I swear I saw his bones peak through."

"And you know that crease in his forehead, apparently it goes way deeper than that." The texan chuckles. "He took five whole minutes after Chen called it off to cool down, and even after that, he was still on edge. He-"

"Boots!" Tim's stern voice cuts through the crowd. "Quit the twittering and let's go. The streets won't patrol themselves."

"Yes sir." They chorus, following him back to their shops as they try to ignore the way his hands linger just a second too long on Chen's back.

Musing on Buddie becoming canon

I would love to see trope upon trope used in the lead up to Buddie becoming canon.

Obvious pining; unrequited but not really pining; lack of communication with each other (talking to everyone else except each other); dramatic declarations of feelings in life-or-death situation; hospital bedside love declaration; and then some good juicy misunderstandings and miscommunication leading to them not getting together right away but to a big dramatic screaming fight instead. Maybe it even gets a little bit physical (wrestling, not punching) before they finally kiss. And one runs away. And so it goes on into season 8… I really want Buddie to get together, but what I don’t want is it to be fast, or easy. I want the drama, the tension. I want to see Eddie struggle with accepting his queerness, and then coming out. I want to see Buck struggle with believing that Eddie could love him while wanting it desperately.

I want it to be drawn out and have us keen for more next season. No sweet and fluffy happily ever after too soon. That’s when shit gets boring.

Basically, I want all the tropes from all the Buddie fics that thousands of us have written to come true in canon. There is a reason they are so prevalent and so popular. Everyone loves them! And after 6 seasons, by gum we deserve them.

NEW ONE SHOT: Spinning Out

The trailer did this to me. I blame the trailer. Sorry about it. Please take it, I don't want it in my brain anymore.

Summary:

The sun always rises in the east and sets in the west. What goes up must always come down. And if Eddie Diaz is in a helicopter with his team, it must fall from the sky. AKA: Speculation into Eddie's reaction to flying on a chopper with his team into a storm, as per the trailer dropped on February 17th.

Snippet:

“-repeat, LAFD aircraft down,” Eddie hears Chim shouting into his radio, which miraculously survived and is built to be waterproof. “Requesting immediate back up. We’ve still got two firefighters trapped.”

The painted white and red tail of the chopper is still sticking out from the sea, so hopefully other air support vehicles or the coast guard are able to find them. But they don’t have long. 

“I’m going back down for Hen and Tommy!” Buck shouts over the din of the water. 

Eddie nods, taking a gulp of air. 

“Front doors will be harder to open! Might be easier to pull them out from the back!”

“Copy that,” Chim shouts, securing his radio to his uniform. “Let’s go.”

Taking a finally deep breath, Eddie plunges back underwater. With Chim and Buck nearby, he pushes his body deeper and deeper down until he’s back inside the aircraft. It’s tipped a bit more, more directly vertical than the slight diagonal incline from before. Soon, he thinks, the whole thing is going to start dropping like a stone. 

Hen and Tommy are running out of time.

“Your son is still alive” Buck hisses back. “Don’t you dare give up on him. Your son is still alive!”

Helena sobs.

“Buck, we know you feel responsible for Christopher… but you don’t have to be. We are here, and we know what Christopher needs best, what he wants.” Ramon tries to argue.

“You haven’t been responsible for Chris in years Mr Diaz. Eddie has been. I have been. I know you see me as just a friend of Eddies, like- like an Uncle to Chris, but that isn’t true.”

OR

Eddie is in a coma, Buck is a stuggling to be a single father (again), Helena and Ramon realise that maybe Christopher and enough family, and Chris just wants both of his Dads to be OK.

Whats this? New fic alert?! From me?? no way lmao. Based on all the posts i've been seeing about coma!Eddie, and his parent being on set with buck and chris. enjoy!

Going by the promo I'm starting to feel like Buck's great realization is not about him figuring out he's bi - he already knows. Maybe it's him figuring out that Eddie isn't straight 😂 Like "OMG he's dating a man. Should I tell him he''s dating a man? And WTF, when did MY chance go?"

If Bobby and Athena are going on their honeymoon cruise, then almost zero time has passed since last season. So Eddie and Marisol probably haven’t even had their first date yet.

So when the cruise ship goes down, Buddie is separated and neither knows if the other is okay or not. Buck is flashbacks about losing Christopher in the tsunami. Eddie knows Buck still has nightmares about the tsunami and is worried about him.

Eddie realizes how he feels about Buck after he sees him alive and breathing and they embrace one another. And after they’re back at the station Eddie confesses to Chim because he’s so confused and “how did I not know I have feelings for my best friend?!”

Idk I’m just clowning🙃

Imagine 7s, Chris gathers his clothes for sleepover and tells Eddie Buck was strange in the zoo or where 13 year old want to spend time with Buck. And Eddie "strange? How?" And Chris "he wasn't talking much. And i think he was sad" and Eddie "I'll call him later and we can go to him tomorrow yeah?" And after Eddie comes back home and just opens his door there's a call from Buck and Eddie answer and Buck is crying and just continue to repeat his name and episode ends with Eddie running to his car talking to Buck over the phone just repeating" Buck? Buck, hey I'm coming. I will be here in twenty minutes "

(Bonus points if Eddie should have had date night with someone but wasn't even thinking about them running to Buck)

Oh man yeah that would be something!

And when eddie gets there he finds buck on the floor in his kitchen sobbing and crying and just a mess in general. Buck can't say anything because he can't get air into his lungs and eddie goves his best to calm buck down enough so he can tell him what is going on.

guys I just had a thought and hurt my own feelings

(it’s probably wrong bc I know Buck technically died last season so it’d be insane to hurt him a lot again so soon)

but we’ve discussed how Tim is mirroring s4, so what if this time Buck is the one to get hurt in an emergency to parallel the sniper incident, and that’s why Eddie goes into s8 feeling isolated? and what would honestly stop Buck from being there for Eddie if not a physical barrier? or what if Buck gets hurt (but it’s minor) & Eddie feels insane guilt bc he was late (another theme this season) & couldn’t be there for Buck when he needed him, so that’s why he’s isolating

my new spec is some kind of feelings realization from one or both of them by the end of the season, possibly Buck’s loft burning down (maybe someone else in his building tries to burn it down bc they can’t afford it lol) and Eddie having his head so far up his own ass he’s late to the rescue and Buck gets hurt (maybe severely, maybe not) and Eddie hides away because he feels so guilty

bonus points if Buck witnesses Eddie losing his ever-loving mind at the thought of Buck getting hurt again AND REMEMBERS HIS REACTION

Just A Little While More

"Are you..." He stops, sparing a second to just take her in. "Are you ok?"

His voice is distraught, pain and longing seeping through every word, and even though he knows he shouldn't, he just wants to hold her. Forever.

Lucky for him, she has no such reservations. Shrugging off his grip on her wrist, she immediately pulls him into a hug, her legs winding themselves around his waist as he holds her up.

It's a position so familiar; a warmth immediately fills his chest, and he doesn't resist the urge to press the softest of kisses to her hair.

"Luce." He whispers, gently stroking the dark brown locks, gazing with wander as it fades to a vibrant orange.

"Shh." Her words are light touches to his skin, half mumbled into the fabric of his shirt, but he understands it all the same. "Just a little while more."

It is then he understands that she needs this just as much as him, maybe even more.

He gives them a few more minutes, soaking in the warmth and love she exudes, revelling in the comfort he's yearned for.

"Are you ok?" He asks again once her feet touch the ground.

Her first step is unsteady, suddenly ungrounded from the loss of contact, and he doesn't hesitate. His arms reach out to support her, and she offers him a smile in return.

"I should be asking you that." Turning, she rifles through a drawer behind her, pulling out dressings he wished she didn't have.

"I can do it." He tries to take the bandage from her, but she clutches it tighter, shaking her head.

"Shirt. Come on."

"I can..." He tries, but he knows his pleas are futile. She peels off the backing just as smoothly as he removes his shirt, gingerly cleaning the edges before pressing the cotton onto the weeping wound.

His skin is a flame under her touch, an excited tingling erupting anywhere she grazes, the feather-light brushes accompanied with a burning that could be a sign of infection or her warmth. He hopes it's the latter.

She feels the heat of his gaze and she knows he feels it too. She wants it more than anything she's wanted in a long time... She wants him here.

No matter how long they've been apart, how long since they broke up, she knows her feelings will never truly disappear.

"We shouldn't." She breaths as her eyes finally lift to his. Her hand rests against his chest, the only thing stopping her from getting any closer.

"I know." He whispers back. "But-"

Footsteps echo behind the door, and they know their time is up.

"You have to go." She shoves his shirt into his hands, crumpling up the bandages as she shoves them into her pockets. "Go, now."

"Lucy-"

"I'm not Lucy." She says loudly. "I'm Kim."

"Leave." The door opens, revealing Batista.

"What's with all the racket, Kim?" He looks at her angrily. "The kids are asleep and there will be no yelling in under my watch, even in a hotel."

"Yes, sir." She nods. "He just thought I was someone else, and was about to leave."

"Good." Batista steps away. "Have the kids ready by 7.30. I want them to start their lessons at 8. No reason for them to fall behind."

"Yes, sir."

Batista waits as Tim leaves the room, the latter's eyes lingering just long enough to catch her whispered words through the sliver in the door.

"I'll be ok."

Anyways here’s a conversation that’s been rattling around in my brain (7x10 spec)

Eddie: are you… well, I know you’re not okay, but do you want to say why?

Buck: it’s just… different, I guess

Eddie: what is?

Buck: being in this side of it. The waiting. Seeing him like this.

Eddie, a little breathless: you’re think about when you—

Buck: yeah.

Eddie: I was in a coma, after I was shot. You’ve gotten through this before.

Buck: I didn’t… I didn’t see it. I didn’t see you. I was a fucking coward, Eds. I could bring myself to watch you like that.

Eddie: if you were a coward then so was I. I only… god, Buck I could only bring myself to see you once because Chris…

Buck:… it’s going to be okay, Eds. We’re going to figure it out

Eddie: I can’t lose him. I can’t believe I fucked up so badly that I’m going to lose him.

Buck: you won’t. We won’t.

Eddie: thank you. I’m sorry I ruined date night with this

Buck: I’m not. That’s the job, right? We have each other’s backs. Through all of this. We’re partners, right?

Eddie, looking at Buck through new eyes, seeing something he couldn’t acknowledge before: yeah. Partners.

Inspiration Saturday/Several Sentence Sunday

Was very busy yesterday so combining these today!

After watching that INSANE season 7 trailer, I decided to write my first actual spec fic? Well, kind spec? Is it spec if you know for sure it's not gonna happen? Anyway... Here's the first bit from a little one shot tentatively titled "Spinning Out" about Eddie's helicopter trauma being reawakened based on the events of that trailer.

The chopper had hit the water nose first, and is sinking in that direction, so Eddie - and Chim and Buck here in the backseat with him - are suspended upside down, buckled in and sinking with it. From back here, vision distorted by impact, salt, and total darkness, Eddie cannot tell how Hen and Tommy are doing up front. Beside him, Chim is struggling with his seatbelt. On the other side of Chim, where Buck should also be moving and frantic, Eddie cannot sense any motion. 

Buck being the only still thing in the world is enough to sober him into action. 

Eddie is out of his seatbelt in a fraction of a second, reaching over to quickly undo Chim’s as well. It’s easier than it was in Afghanistan. Laws have changed since then, regarding helicopter seat restraint manufacturing. Eddie knows. Eddie pays attention. People drowned, just like this, and the laws changed. So even underwater, it’s easier.

Do you think if Buck and Tommy are popular Tim will just stick with them rather just break them up to go with Buddie? I’m not sure how everyone is so excited when it could all backfire

I’m not worried about that. They’ve built up the relationship with Eddie over like six seasons now, and they can’t undo that.

The excitement comes from potentially getting bi!Buck confirmation, which means the door is officially wide open for buddie to happen. They’ve been queer-coding Eddie for years, and dropping hints about Buck, but this would be the first time they would actually officially confirm it in canon on the show (again tempering expectations as it might not happen).

So I’m excited to see what they do with it. The potential for jealous, floundering Eddie is delicious 😋
