i feel like the vancouver coastal wolves are seriously some of the most interesting living examples for how global warming has impacted species evolution

decades ago, wolves being reintroduced into northern spans of canada and alaska were primarily that of the grey wolf variant, adapted to the mountainous and terrestrial conditions of yellowstone’s ranges. when they were initially introduced, canada/alaska’s climate had approximately mimicked these same conditions, but due to global warming, have largely devolved over the past 20 years into marshes and bays

while this shift has been a drastic and dangerous change for surrounding species, the bulky grey wolf descendants have almost entirely changed to fit the aforementioned climate, developing lighter structures, webbed paws, and switching diets from cervidae to salmon at a rate never recorded in modern large mammals previously
