Zhu Zaiyu (1536 – 1611) was a Chinese scholar, mathematician and music theorist. He was a prince of the Chinese Ming dynasty. In 1584, Zhu innovatively described the equal temperament via accurate mathematical calculation. His work has been described as "the crowning achievement of two millennia of acoustical experiment and research" and he is described as "one of the most important historians of his nation's music".
Tumblr media
Zhu's work on equal temperament did not get any official recognition during his lifetime nor during the Qing dynasty. This was due to the Ming and Qing emphasis on classical scholarship and discouragement of ideas based on empirical observation rather than textual interpretations.

HETEROSEXUAL CIS-PEOPLE LOOK HERE
Tumblr media
Snaps my fingers at you as you scroll past this post
Look at me. Listen.
I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.
We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.
But you joining in could get us there so much faster.
The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.
Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.
Educate yourself before you speak up, but don't be silent.

A little over a decade ago, researchers in Australia were placing recorders in the nests of superb fairywrens (Malurus cyaneus) when they discovered something entirely unexpected. The female songbirds were singing to their unhatched eggs. Even more astonishing, when the chicks finally hatched, experts noticed that all the birds that grew up in the same nest used a similar tune to beg their mother and father for food.

The Pyrophone, also known as the "fire organ" or "fire-explosion organ," is indeed a real instrument from the 19th century. It was invented by Georges Frédéric Eugène Kastner, a French physicist and musician, in the mid-1800s. The Pyrophone produces sound by using flames within glass tubes or metal pipes. The heat from the flames causes the air inside the tubes to vibrate, creating musical notes. The intensity and frequency of the sound can be altered by adjusting the size and intensity of the flames.

I just wanted to say I both love your art and all your playlists, they go so extremely hard. Do you have any new playlists cooking? 👀
Thank you and yes I do !
New playlist just dropped.. It's Wheeljack's ! The vibe for this one is "driving alone with the music blasting" or "songs that would probably play in a compilation of Wheeljack blowing things up joyously"
