Saw a Sayaka take that’s so fucking stupid

Someone argued that Sayaka knew about the trials because she would have asked Monokuma about the details of her graduation before trying to kill Leon.

In the mental state Sayaka was in why would she seek out Monokuma for advice? And on top of that why would he tell her? If she successfully murdered Leon it would give her more despair if she realized getting away with the crime would sentence everyone to death. Yeah she was manipulative with her approach to Makoto but I don’t think she’d sacrifice the lives of so many people to get out. One life is still pretty far and she couldn’t even commit to actually doing it and that got her killed. How would she handle the information that EVERYONE would die? Even if she didn’t care about the others she’d still be at a risk if the others found out she was the murder, then she wouldn’t be able to escape cause she’d be fucking dead. Celeste also uses manipulation tactics in her murder and takes a gamble on her life here because she’s a gambler. And she’s confident enough to kill and believe she’ll get away with it. But Sayaka’s motivations for murder were more personal, unlike Celeste who seemingly just wanted money. Because of this Sayaka would defiently be less likely to make such a big gamble. Sure she did “bad stuff” to get where she is (it was Bikini pics btw, not anything illegal) but she is not gonna advance in her career if she’s fucking dead.

Anyway every time Sayaka Maizono is mischaracterized I loose a week off of my life. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

REMINDER: Sayaka Maizono, Leon Kuwata, Mondo Owada, Hifumi Yamada, Celestia Ludenberg, Sakura Oogami, Yasuhiro Hagakure, Toko Fukawa, Aoi Asahina and Byakuya Togami canonically did absolutely nothing wrong.....at least, in retrospect.

I will never, ever understand people who hate on any of the aforementioned characters for anything they do in the Killing Game when after everything is revealed in Chapter 6, Makoto says point blank that they can no longer be held responsible for their actions because Junko directly interfered with their agency by taking away their memories! The whole purpose of the reveal is that Junko knew that none of those people who ever kill or try to kill one another if they were left as is, since their memories of the friendship they share and of the state of the outside world would not allow it. Byakuya is the worst of them and look at his reaction here:

Even he can't fathom going up against people he's spent 2 years forging dynamics with. He would not have done any of the crap he did in Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 if he had his memories. Nobody would have done any of the crap they did if they had their memories.

The versions of the people who murdered and lied and betrayed...were not the real versions.

Okay so I took inspiration and actually started it, here's a snippet of the first chapter of my WIP. I'd love some feedback, and if things aren't lore-accurate please let me know. I kind of started this on a whim and just have gameplay infront of me and dialouge on the wiki page for when I need it.

Kuwata was the next person to speak "Huh what's wrong?-" he asked the question again. Somehow it sounded the exact same. This time he was interrupted by the appearance of a brown-haired boy in a green hoodie entering the room.

Suddenly it was like a light-bulb switched off in the other students minds, they began to speak. Lively and confused chatter filling the room.

"Whoa, hey! Another new kid?" Another brown haired boy had asked, he was wearing a green jacket over a yellow baggy shirt. He seemed much older than the other students, maybe 19?

Sayaka then heard the brown-haired boy speak for the first time.

"Huh? Then you guys are all...?"

The conversation continued, everybody speaking normally. Almost automated, like a switch had come on. Chatter continued among the students as a black haired boy scolded the new student for being late to his first day at the Academy.

"I don't like this shit..." Leon spoke quietly so the others didn't hear him. He looked nervously at Maizono and scanned her up and down. "Aren't you going to say something... please tell me I'm not alone here. Otherwise this is ending up like every other time and I'm going to end up-"

Sayaka snapped back to reality and turned to face Kuwata.

"What? What are you talking about?" She asked, she fiddled with her blue hair nervously looking up at him. She didn't notice how many piercings he had until she was up close, they shone under the fluorecent light.

"So you're not like them?" He was unsure at first, but seemed slightly more relieved when she nodded firmly.

Okay but after reading @rainbow-crane make their character analysis for Sayaka I realise how much of a placeholder tutorial guide she is.

Like @yukiteruakari told me about the idea that first and second (I MIGHT BE WRONG ABOUT THE CONCEPT AND IM SO SORRY IF I AM) and how they're in a loop trying to stop Danganronpa, but Leon always ends up being the first blackened, he does everything to stop it. But Sayaka each time breaks the fourth wall and helps the player through challenges.

It's almost like she knows what's going to happen - she can't stop it - but this isn't the first makoto, this is the 5-millionth Makoto (based on copies bough in 2021).

They have no idea what they're doing or what they're in for, but she does. a "You don't know me... but I know you." kind of moment. She knows everything, but even the other characters like Aoi, Kyoko, Mondo, Kiyotaka etc. think that they're in the universe for the first time, they don't know if they're going to die, even Junko doesn't know what's going to happen.

Just Sayaka and Leon. Fighting to stop Danganronpa THH from ever beginning. And as the player if you advance you get no more guidance from them. They're stuck dead in your game, but they thrive in their version of an "au" (just another copy of the game) almost as if they're begging the player to stop. But it's against the game. It's against the code and they can't do it. They have to follow the dialogue when Makoto/placeholder/-Y-N is near. Almost as if every other character when Makoto isn't around just freezes and stands still, and Sayaka and Leon are the only ones actually functioning unless Makoto is near or they have an interaction coming up with him.

They know what happens. They know that they kill eachother. Nothing can stop it from happening, and once they die they don't continue the game. They don't know who lives and dies next because everybody else other than Makoto/Placeholder/Y-N is just coding that gets removed.

an explanation of why she did what she did, and my opinions on her as a character

her motivation

if you've seen danganronpa, you know it's a killing game. at the beginning of this game, every participant was shown a dvd that insinuated that their loved ones were in danger, or dead. sayaka was of course traumatized by the footage, since it was her band mates in the video. this caused her to devise a plan.

the plan

sayaka's plan consisted of murdering leon, and making it appear as though makoto was the culprit. this plan went into action when she and makoto swapped rooms, with him agreeing because she didn't feel safe in hers. unknown to makoto, she switched the nameplates on their doors. she then wrote a note that claimed she found an escape, and slipped it under leon's door.

her death

later in the night, leon arrived. he was then attacked, and by acting in self defense, broke sayaka's wrist. she went into makoto's bathroom, and since leon thought it was locked, he left to grab a tool kit to break in. after he got back in, he stabbed her, and she wrote his name in blood on the wall.

her reasoning

the rules stated that if you killed someone and got away with it, you'd graduate. she obviously saw an opportunity here. her band members were in trouble, and if she got out she could help. her plan backfired though, and leon was executed soon after killing her due to his name being on the wall.

why she isn't a "snake"

in a killing game, people will obviously attempt to get out of it. desperate times call for drastic measures. she probably assumed if she didn't make the first move, someone would kill her first. but the fandom does forget that it's danganronpa, and in games and media like this people lose all sense of what's "morally correct." sayaka wasn't thinking about the morality of throwing makoto under the bus, she just wanted to get out, and it's understandable. she's not a bad person for what she did, most of the fandom's favorite characters have done something just as bad, or worse. leon came back to finish the job, but he doesn't get the same treatment. the way the fandom treats her is absolutely rooted in misogyny. they see her as a "snake" or a "backstabber" but don't treat any other male character who's done something just as bad the same. so many people in this fandom wait for a reason to hate on a female character, and this proves it.

during and after the trial

if sayaka truly wanted makoto dead, she wouldn't have tried to write leon's name, a clear indicator that he did it instead of makoto. the fact she did this proves she isn't heartless, it proves that she regretted what she did. kyoko even stated that the message saved makoto's life, and shows that sayaka did care about him. if she didn't, she would've let him take the blame, and leon would've graduated instead.

makoto forgave her anyway

makoto even forgave her! she betrayed him, but she understood her reasoning and didn't hold it against her, even when he would have been falsely accused for a crime he didn't commit. he doesn't believe that any of his friends are bad people, and his behavior through the game proves that. he never expresses hatred for what they did, only understanding. he hadn't even blamed leon despite him going back to finish the job, he blamed monokuma for forcing them into this.

in conclusion

calling sayaka a snake is wrong, and rooted in misogyny. she atoned for what she did with her last breaths, and was forgiven by the person she wronged. the fandom labels her incorrectly despite some of their favorites being way worse.

The double standard of Sayaka Maizono

Hi! It's been a long while since I've posted here, but I spent Christmas writing this 4 page tangent on this whole ass feeling I have about a Danganronpa character.

WARNING FOR MAJOR DRV3 SPOILERS NEAR THE END USED AS A COMPARISON, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PARTS OF THH AND MENTION OF SUICIDE

Why is Sayaka dictated to be a lying, cheating snake to most of the western Danganronpa audience?

You could say that this is because her plan was to frame Makoto for the murder of Leon, in which yes this is true, and yes, she deserves some criticism for that. BUT, there’s a few points here I’d like to argue in defense of Sayaka.

I’d like to state that Sayaka isn’t even one of my favorites. I like her, but she’s not one of my all-time favs. I have little bias for her. So, this isn’t some kind of hate speech about one of my favorites getting mischaracterized, I just think people should remember these things about Sayaka and a few other characters.

First of all, what was Sayaka’s plan?

Well, she traded rooms with Makoto in secret to the other students in order to murder Leon in Makoto’s room, framing him in order to graduate and leave the killing game. Well, this might be slightly untrue.

Indeed, she did make this plan, but we are forgetting the fact that the presence of the class trial is something that was only announced after Sayaka’s murder, which means she could’ve thought of this situation entirely differently. In her mind, most likely she’d murder Leon, everyone would think Makoto did it, and then she’d be free to go back to her idol group. To her, there would be no lying during a trial and having to face those she lied to and betrayed, they’d be a distant thought left behind as she goes back to her normal life.

Of course, things didn’t go this way, but I’d like to give Sayaka the benefit of the doubt as Makoto does for several other characters.

There’s also the debate of what Kyoko said during the final bits of chapter 1, about Sayaka leaving Leon’s name on the wall in order to ensure Makoto would live. There’s the debate of if she left it so Makoto could save himself, or if this was simply to get back at Leon for, yknow, murdering her. And yes, this could go either way, it’s left up to what the player thinks, but what I do know is that Sayaka seems to care for Makoto a great deal. Remembering him from middle school, the interactions they had in the Danganronpa 3 anime Despair Arc, hell, Sayaka’s free time events make it so obvious she cares for him in a lot of ways.

It’s all up to the player to decide if Sayaka is innocent or not, but saying she never cared for Makoto is what is hard to believe to me.

What is the double standard against Sayaka?

I have reason to believe the fandom is unjustly biased against Sayaka for a few others of its characters, specifically Aoi and Kyoko. Let’s go chronologically, and begin with Aoi

Aoi’s betrayal

In chapter 4, Sakura, Aoi’s best friend in the killing game, commits suicide in order to sacrifice herself and make up to the other students for being the traitor. Because of false evidence planted by Monokuma, Aoi believes Sakura killed herself because the others hated her as a consequence for her betrayal.

Because of this, Aoi plans to frame herself as the killer of Sakura to get herself and the rest of the students killed by way of a wrong guess and execution.

You can already see similarities here, but instead Aoi is aiming to kill everyone including herself on purpose as a way to “die for their sins.” And obviously, she has her reasons to believe this. She’s a very “grab a bull by the horns,” kind of person. She was also very emotional as of just losing her best friend right in front of her.

My argument is, why does Sayaka not get this kind of sympathy?

In Sayaka’s free time events, she mentioned she had to do a lot of unpleasant things to get where she is as an idol, and although we do not hear of these things, it’s left to the imagination, especially because an idol career in Japan is notably hard on younger girls in showbiz.

Both cases, emotions were running high. Sayaka losing everything she worked for in an instant if she doesn't kill someone, and Aoi just losing her best friend right in front of her eyes. So why is Aoi forgiven, and Sayaka not?

In fact I never hear anyone bring up Aoi’s attempted betrayal in chapter 4, almost as if it never happened. Yet Sayaka is treated so much differently when these betrayals are incredibly similar. Hell, you could even claim Sayaka didn’t know anyone but Leon would die for her crime. (In danganronpa the stage play Leon was also acting real creepy towards her so, can you blame a girl for going after the easiest dude like Leon or Hifumi) But Aoi was prepared to let everyone die for a lie, albeit she did not know it was a lie, but the problem still is evident. She was forgiven a lot easier than Sayaka when she had the experience of 4 class trials at this point, fully knowing the consequences of her actions.

All of this could be forgiven, because both are technically Monokuma's fault. And I would forgive it if it was only Sayaka and Aoi. But it’s not.

Kyoko’s betrayal

In chapter 5, Kyoko is framed by the mastermind for a false murder in order to stop her from coming too close to the truth and destroying the killing game. Kyoko claims herself that if she dies, the mystery of the school would never be solved. And yeah, that’s a pretty good reason for not wanting to die. Until Makoto gets framed instead.

The entire ladder half of the trial, Kyoko is actively framing Makoto because there is no other option. Sacrificing him, to keep herself alive. Sound familiar?

You could say a lot more is at stake this time, and also Makoto did end up getting out alive, but Kyoko had absolutely no idea that Alter Ego would save Makoto when he did. Kyoko was fully willing to let Makoto die a bullshit death so she could solve the mystery of Hope’s Peak and the killing game.

Obviously, I do think she feels guilt for this, but again it’s almost as if it never even happened in terms of how often it’s talked about.

There’s also the question of if Makoto did end up dead, where would Kyoko go from there? He was the only one she trusted and told everything she knew to, and if things went wrong that would be it. Byakuya and her butt heads in every trial, Hiro and Toko are both idiots, Hina is entirely too gullible and trusting. There’s no one left to put her trust into as fully as she did to Makoto.

Again, framing someone in order for a selfish goal and not seeing the consequences, these three instances share that one linking factoid.

But while Sayaka is demonized and called a lying snake, Kyoko and Aoi are fan favorites who get a lot of love from fans.

Why are they different?

V3 SPOILERS AHEAD FOR COMPARISON

I think it’s all about screen time. Sayaka was the first murder of the entire series, obviously she’s nowhere near developed as someone like Kyoko, Toko or even Rantaro from V3 as he becomes plot relevant later in the game after his murder. Sayaka does have somewhat the same effect on Makoto that Kaede does on Shuichi, a lingering first death that dwells on the male protagonist as they potentially loved this girl.

There’s also the fact that not everyone in the first Danganronpa game was created equal, as Sayaka and Leon do not have the full 6 part free time events later characters get in subsequent games. (Leon gets 3, Sayaka gets 2, other characters suffer from this such as Mukuro, Taka, and Mondo) This leaves a lot of Sayaka blank, to fill in if you will, and why I think she’s overlooked in general.

There’s one last thing I’d like to say in defense of Sayaka and even Aoi and Kyoko. They’re teenagers.

The class Makoto is in, is first years, they’re basically teenagers still with these incredibly gifted talents being forced to murder each other for their freedom, dumb decisions are evident in this situation. The pressure, the stress, the fear, all of it twisted up can cause anyone to make decisions they normally wouldn’t. And I think that goes a long way for someone like Sayaka. Who worked for her talent endlessly and it obviously means the world to her if she’s willing to murder a stranger/friend to continue it.

In the end, Sayaka made mistakes, she should be held accountable, but she’s not an evil snake who used Makoto as she saw fit. Everyone in Danganronpa should be held accountable accordingly for their crimes, but obviously Sayaka is not as evil as say Celeste, Korekiyo, Mikan, or hell even Junko. Honestly, she was just a teenager in a desperate situation, it’s like cornering a rat, something is bound to happen.

So, I spun a wheel, and Hifumi would've been found dead in the A/V Room.

Now, you know how much of a simp Hifumi is, so we're gonna pull the classic Danganronpa trope of "killer invites victim for a visit late at night."

Hifumi, of course, can't turn that down. And he sees Celeste in the A/V room. Celeste wants to win the game, because of her whole "adaptation" spheal, so she kills Hifumi.

Now, let's talk about Sayaka. She's obviously very defensive of Makoto, so let's say that Monokuma went after him verbally. Of course She's only that way because she's plotting to kill Makoto, but to build his trust more, she fights back against Monokuma. This results in him executing her.

Now, Hifumi dying first is actually kinda what I predicted. I selected 2 characters for each game that I thought people would choose for first blood.

These are characters that I've seen are generally disliked, and who I predicted will be voted to die first.

Okay, I think I have a Pokémon for everyone in Class 78:

Makoto Naegi - Rattata, because it's one of the most plain, basic Normal-Types ever, and being boring is Makoto's entire personality.

Aoi Asahina - Floatzel, because obviously she needs a Water-Type, and I think Floatzel is the closest to being about swimming without being a fish.

Byakuya Togami - Persian, because he's a dumbass idiot who thinks he's a James Bond villain.

Celestia Ludenberg - Either Purugly or Gothitelle, because Purugly is like her actual cat and Gothitelle vits with her vibe. Slight tangent, but it's weird how we don't have a vampire Pokémon, right?

Chihiro Fujisaki - Porygon-Z, because it's like a living computer virus, or something.

Hifumi Yamada - Gardevoir or Vaporeon. We all know why.

Junko Enoshima - Bewear, because between it, Beartic, Ursaring, and Ursaluna, it's the closest to having a teddy bear vibe. However, if Fakemon are acceptable, than I would instead say Regigrimm, which is a Dark-Type Regi made from human suffering and despair.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru - Unfezant, because I'm fairly certain it's supposed to be a Green Pheasant and that's Japan's National Bird.

Kyoko Kirigiri - Arcanine, because every Officer Jenny has a Growlithe, and since she's a super detective, I feel that's close enough.

Leon Kuwata - There aren't really baseball Pokémon, so I'mma just say an Electrode since it's a ball.

Mondo Owada - Cyclizar. It's a motorcycle lizard.

Mukuro Ikusaba - Lucario, because there aren't really any soldier Pokémon, but Lucario is at least Fighting/Steel. Once again, if Fakemon are allowed, I'd instead say Woond.

Sakura Ogami - Hitmontop, since Tyrogue's evolutions are based on whether its Attack or Defense are higher or even, and since Sakura practices MMA to be an all-rounder of sorts, and Tyrogue evolves into Hitmontop when its Attack and Defense are equal, it's perfect.

Sayaka Maizono - Primarina, because the opera singer seal mermaid is the closest thing to a Japanese idol singer.

Toko Fukawa - Garbodor, because there aren't really any book, scissor, or serial killer Pokémon. I mean, there's Sizor, but other than its name, it doesn't really connect to Scissors in anyway. Anyways, Garbodor because she has a pet stink bug. Skuntank also works, I guess.

Yasuhiro Hagakure - Xatu, because obviously he needs a Psychic-Type, and Xatu is constantly gazing into the future, which is kind of close to Hiro being an idiot.

Sorry for the sudden ask. But is it okay if you like infodump about Sayaka Maizono to me? I know I’m not into Dangan ronpa anymore but I would love to hear a full length paragraph or just a couple of short sentences on why you really like her. (She’s always been my sweetheart I don’t really hate her it’s just I’ve been feeling autistic all day about her today and I just wanna let you know. It’s fine if you don’t want to do it though!)

I did post a lengthy-ish defense of her character some years back.

I do still like her a lot! I'm a big fan of characters motivated purely by the human desire to survive. Sayaka's a good take, especially with how this desire to survive ties into how cutthroat and ruthless the idol industry is. These characters, ironically, are always doomed to die (or even sacrifice themselves), and even her death furthers her character because we're left with the question of if she wanted Naegi to realize the truth or if she only wanted Leon to fail out of spite. Naegi's decision to ultimately believe in the bond they shared, however briefly they were able to speak, is the core of dr1's themes of hope and optimism. Sayaka might die for the narrative, but she doesn't die without impact and she didn't die stripped of autonomy. It all came down to her choices and what we're to make of them, and I appreciate that dr1 asks that we be compassionate towards her rather than cynical from her betrayal.

Sayaka Maizono: Hogwarts AU

Sayaka Maizono is a pureblood witch that was born on the 7th of July 1980 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1991, being sorted into Slytherin house.

She was raised by her father after her mother passed away during the First Wizarding War and due to him working long hours at the Ministry, she grew up rather lonely.

While she did want to befriend one of the chosen ones who lived next-door, she never got the courage and instead used to spend her time listening to the radio which is where her dream to become a singer developed.

She eventually did befriend Makoto Naegi on the Hogwarts express with her also becoming his first girlfriend, but they later broke up after the Yule Ball after realizing that they were better off as friends.

In her fifth year, she became a member of Makarov's Army where she ended up meeting Makoto's roommate Leon who she ended up befriending with the two of them also developing a mutual attraction to each other as well.

She was also the one to invite him to join the frog choir where she was the main singer.

She eventually participated in the Battle of Hogwarts which she unfortunately did not survive after she became the first victim of Junko Enoshima's game.

She was put under the Imperius Curse and was ordered to kill Leon but unlike the others, she was accidentally killed in self defense.

Leon, after realizing what he had done, took his own life in redemption.

She had an alder wand with a dragon heartstring core.

Her Patronus was a crane.

Her favorite subjects were Charms and Divination.

Her least favorite subjects were Herbology and Potions.

Hifumi Yamada: Hogwarts AU

Hifumi Yamada was a Muggleborn wizard that was born on the 31st of December 1970 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1982, being sorted into Ravenclaw House.

He had an Ebony wand with a Unicorn Hair core.

His Patronus was a Hamster.

His favorite subject was Charms and his least favorite subject was Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Hifumi has a verbose manner of speaking, often going on long-winded tangents about his interests such as comic books. He also has a tendency to casually make creepy or perverted comments in the middle of conversations, especially about or to women. He can also be oblivious to how others perceive him, as shown when Toko says he smells like a "big fat ugly donkey" — he couldn't tell if that was an insult or a compliment. However, he also displays some intelligence, such as when he figures out one piece of Sayaka's dying message during the first investigation. He also has late reactions to shocking events, as shown when Leon tries to pin the murder of Sayaka Maizono on him, and then again when Chihiro Fujisaki's true gender was exposed. He reacted calmly and interested at first, but then freaked out when he fully processed the situation.

Hifumi is extremely passionate about comic books and has little tolerance for anyone less dedicated to them than himself, calling them "slackers". His dream is to create a story so powerful it'll inspire others to create their own stories as well.

He refers to others in a very formal manner, using the honorific suffix -dono as well as their full name, for example, "Naegi Makoto-dono". This proves to be a key piece of evidence later during the investigation for his murder as he mutters "Yasuhiro", Celestia's real last name as opposed to it being Yasuhiro Hagakure's first name.

Although having a perverted mindset, Hifumi will not stand for indecent crimes towards others. He even went so far as to kill Kiyotaka due to believing that he had sexually assaulted Celestia, showing that while he has good intentions, he is somewhat gullible.

Hifumi seems to have an addiction to Butterbeer. After being banned from Hogsmead he becomes nearly violent due to not having any Butterbeer, to the point of even having a hallucination.

Tbh, Makoto should have something for self-defense anyways, like pepper spray or something.

He's like, the main pilar that's keeping society as stable as it is now, and there's going to be occasions where he will be alone, no matter what we do.

Between Makoto getting embroidered on tabloid drama and him dying, and society falling into anarchy again, I would rather get the first one, because at least that one can be reversed.

Oh don't worry, Makoto does know ways to protect himself and doesn't need protection, he'll handle himself.

Yeah, as say before; I do know some bit of self defense and I do have a hand gun and a pepper spray on me so I'll be fine.

I'm sure you all are aware but I'm a member of the 14th Division which is PR, meaning I would have to travel outside of Japan to spread hope and help others and form relationships.

Which has lead to some trouble so I started to carry a handgun and some pepper spray, but I don't like using it much but if worse comes to worse I'll defend myself... but given there might be a journalist there, it's going to be troublesome.

Indeed Makoto, it's almost night and day how you acted in the simulation it's rather odd to me.

Sorry, you guys have to forgive him; Makoto's not exactly a big fan of Journalist and reporters which they often are rather... insensitive and ask questions that are too personal.

I'm sure your aware that his killing game was broadcasted live, meaning people saw the killing game formed some rather negative opinions on his friends; I know those like Sayaka Maizono got hit the worse for her actions despite the fact that she was scare her friends got hurt.

Exactly which has lead me to not be very fond of them or just wanting to avoid them if I can.

But don't worry, I still want to help people but I just don't like dealing with journalist very much, so if I started acting odd, I hope you all understand.
