#Sauron has it 75% of the time

I am once again thinking about how good the story of the second age is, and all the fun things you could do with an actually decent adaptation. Consider:

Galadriel should be exactly the same as she is in Lord of the Rings. She is older, weirder and more powerful than any elf other elf in Middle Earth. Other elves are just as unnerved by her as mortals, and dealing with her is stressful at the best of times.

Elrond should be an absolute infant. Just, complete baby face. But everyone treats him super respectfully and he has a lot of power and influence. The energy should be the same as when the super ancient and powerful vampire or faerie or whatever looks like a ten year old girl.

ALSO there should be a tall, menacing elf with visible tattoo and facial scars who just. Stands behind Elrond looking intimidating all the time. The least elf-looking elf ever. All the other elves are uncomfortable around them. Elrond should treat them like their an Aunt or Uncle. The elf is one of the few surviving hard-line Feanorians, all of whom follow Elrond. The longer you can go without explaining this, the better.

Gil-Galad is very tired, and spends a lot of time balancing one of the most famously unstable political systems in all of Arda. Galadriel and Elrond both have factions they support to strongly to be relied on to be impartial. The reason he doesn't worry much about what Celebrimbor's up to is that he's the one member of the family who is highly unlikely to attempt something batshit nuts, and his followers are mostly moderate.

Celebrimbor and Annatar/Sauron should spend the whole series playing complicated mindgames with each other.

Annatar is playing four-dimensional chess from the beginning. For him, this is an all or nothing gamble. If he can't make the rings he won't have the power to seize control on his own. He should spend a lot of time having Light Yagami-level monologues where he tries to figure out what game Celebrimbor is playing while outwardly pretending to be harmless and normal and only succeeding at this about 75% of the time.

Celebrimbor should start of thinking the stakes are considerably lower. Like... is Annatar hiding something? Yea, but he figures Annatar doesn't actually have permission from the Valar to be here or something. Not, ya know, Annatar is secretly Satan in disguise. In the first act there should be an almost comical disconnect between the amount of energy Sauron is putting in to these mind games versus Celebrimbor.

Bonus points if as Celebrimbor figures out the truth, you intersperse more and more of his family backstory. The guilt he is still carrying for a lot the things that happened in the first age. Early on bring in the fact that Finrod went into Sauron's jaws alone and it was Curufin's fault, use this as angst material. And then as he figures out who Sauron really is, drop Maedhros and Thangorodrim in like a nuclear bomb.

Because Celebrimbor has seen this play before, and he knows what Sauron does to people. It wasn't even personal then, what Sauron is going to do to him will be so much worse.

And Celebrimbor chooses to forge the three rings anyway. He doesn't give up their locations, even with everything Sauron does to him at the end. And that should be devestating.

Hey Bucky, just came across someone saying that "Elrondriel shippers don't exist" and also that it's basically "shipping her with Gandalf" etc and I just needed to share it to hear your thoughts about it 😂😂😂 them talking about ship wars when they started it as soon as they jumped on tumblr posts, reddit posts and twitters ones and now playing peacemakers is hilarious to me

I'll be polite here (scratched my +75 lines of salty rant lmao), but I feel it's worth addressing the situation.

We've been having a great time discussing and theorizing about Elrondriel on platforms like Tumblr, Reddit, AO3 and Twitter for days, weeks now even.

But it's funny to see some of the same individuals who were previously stirring the pot now trying to play the role of peacemakers, as if they’ve been neutral all along.

They’ve spent weeks fueling the fire and now, suddenly, they’re acting as though they’ve been innocent bystanders? It’s almost like they’re auditioning for the role of “most dramatic housewife” in Middle-earth’s next reality show.

It’s also curious how shipping Elrond and Galadriel has somehow been portrayed as a crime by some of these folks. They’ve put in the time and effort to bring us down with harsh comments, assumptions, and plenty of shade, but the moment we start sharing our theories and ideas, it’s “woe is me, I’m being attacked”?

Attacked by what, pray tell?

Our theories? Our imaginations? Our fanfics?

It's easy to make theories and discuss ships when you’re in a bubble where everyone agrees with you, but the minute others express their ideas, suddenly it’s a scandal and everyone agreeing with this needs to be burned at the stake, huh?

We’ve been here. Hearing the passive-aggressive comments, receiving the messages that aim to tell us how wrong we are, we saw the names thrown at us.

And now, after all that, some want to pretend they’ve always been neutral, just here to enjoy the show? I don’t think so. It’s one thing to share differing opinions respectfully, and honestly some Haladriels have been LOVELY so far, some are even in our Elrondriel discord!!

But it’s another to dismiss an entire ship with negativity and then act as though you’re above it all.

If others prefer to stay in their echo chambers and ignore any theories or ships that don’t align with their view, that’s fine. You do you Boo. Stay in your tags.

However, let’s not pretend some weren’t quick to jump into conversations just to throw shade at Elrondriel whenever they had a chance. We’ve all seen it.

There’s more of us out there than they realize.

More anons, more fans, and more people slowly starting to come forward and talk about Elrondriel. And yeah, some of them are scared to speak up because of the heavy fire from other shippers or the canon dudebros who’ve made it their personal mission to stomp on anything that isn’t their version of Tolkien’s world. But here’s the thing: trying to dismiss Elrondriel is only going to fortify it.

The more they try to shut us down, the more we come together.

Look, we know what it’s like. They may have tried to gaslight us, just like Sauron tried to do with Galadriel, but we won’t be fooled. We see through it. And as more fans realize there’s a community of people who get it—who understand what makes Elrondriel so special—we’re going to grow stronger, no matter how much they try to suppress us. If they think they can intimidate us into silence, they’ve got another thing coming. We’re not backing down from our ships or our theories. They can try to drag us through the mud all they want, but we’re here for the long haul.

There’s more of us. We’re building momentum, and we’re not going anywhere.

I know not all of their shippers behaved like this, and I’m sure there are plenty of people who engage in the conversation respectfully, but let’s be honest—there were enough instances of harassment and negativity that Elrondriel shippers have felt the need to turn their accounts private, come out as anonymous, or even just step back from public discussion altogether. It’s a shame, because people shouldn’t feel the need to hide or protect themselves just for expressing an opinion or enjoying a ship, especially when that ship is based on genuine theories and ideas. The fact that this behavior led to shippers feeling unsafe or uncomfortable enough to take those steps speaks volumes about the atmosphere that was created.

Again, not all of them, but enough to make the space feel hostile for those of us just enjoying the show and exploring different possibilities/ships.

It’s honestly wild hearing them say things like, “we can’t enjoy the ship/have positivity in the tags” when they’ve spent God knows how long spreading poison across the fandom. And now, somehow, it’s our fault? That’s some Grade-A gaslighting right there, and it’s not lost on anyone.

I know for myself, I’ve never once added tags like “Celeborn,” “Celebrian,” or “Haladriel” to my Elrondriel content. I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but to turn around and accuse us of doing that—when it’s clear from the record who’s been actively inserting "elrondriel" or even "galadriel x elrond" on their posts for the sole purpose of stirring drama—is just ridiculous.

It’s baffling that after all the targeting, shading, and undermining, now they’re the ones crying foul, claiming they can’t enjoy their ships in peace.

Honestly, how many times do we have to be gaslit before we call it out? The hypocrisy is wild, and it’s not even subtle at this point.

It’s like they spent days and weeks trashing on our ship, trying to ruin every post, and now that we’re just here minding our own business, talking theories and having fun, gaining traction, suddenly we’re the problem?

Yeah, no. Sorry, but we’re not falling for that.

They claim to be all about “ship and let ship,” but as soon as Elrondriel starts gaining traction, suddenly they can’t resist the urge to tear it down, just to feel validated in their own ship. It’s honestly laughable how much they preach about respecting other people’s ships until it’s something they don’t personally like or agree with.

And then? The claws come out.

They’re all about supporting ships unless it involves Elrond/ Galadriel, apparently.

It’s clear that “ship and let ship” is just a nice little mantra some people like to trot out when it’s convenient for them. When the shoe’s on the other foot and they’re confronted with something they dislike, it’s game on—logic and respect for others' ships are out the window, and the petty comments start flowing. If they really believed in “ship and let ship,” they'd let us enjoy Elrondriel in peace, like we’ve been doing with their ship.

If they truly lived by their mantra, they wouldn’t be adding our tags to their theories just to bring us down, or posting things that shade our ship such as "x reasons why Elrondriel can't happen", "Why elrondriel doesn't make sense" with our tags etc etc.

They’d just leave us in peace.

We're not out here combing through every single post, fic, or comment about their ships to complain, yet somehow they can't resist jumping into ours to stir the pot. It's honestly wild how they claim to be all about freedom of ships but can't even let ours breathe without trying to rain on it. If they really believed in “ship and let ship,” they'd mind their business and let us do the same.

But instead, we get the same tired act of trying to silence and invalidate our enjoyment. It’s exhausting.

Just saw this amazing Haladriel video on Instagram/Twitter from Slowburnia that I haven't seen shared here so had to!!! :D The storyline is about Galadriel going after Sauron in every lifetime as they end up getting reincarnated many times over. Loved them using all of Morfydd and Charlie's movies/shows (including Charlie's currently airing "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart") as some of these weirdly match up so well. It basically has every AU fic we've thought of in this, and she even used clips of Robert and Calam to be Elrond and Celeborn in some of these lifetimes too.

Concerning Amazon, Finrod, some old leaks, and Dread.

I’m beginning to put together a few pieces and I don’t like the way it’s looking. So I vaguely recall some leaks a while ago about one of the show’s antagonists being a leader of Sauron’s forces who was a corrupted brother of Galadriel. The Vanity Fair article says, “As the series begins, Galadriel is hunting down the last remnants of [Morgoth and Sauron’s] collaborators, who claimed the life of her brother.” Given that it refers to brother (singular), I’m assuming they’re getting rid of the other 2/3 (depending on if you count Orodreth) for family-tree-simplicity since Finrod/Angrod/Aegnor/Orodreth all died at the hands of Morgoth/Sauron’s forces.

However. One of the shots of the trailer is allegedly of a flashback to the First Age featuring Finrod and some soldiers in a clash with some orcs. If the leaks are correct, which I’m praying they aren’t, then Amazon might have decided it would be cooler to make Finrod NOT die saving Beren but instead tortured/brainwashed/corrupted/otherwise manipulated into the commander of Sauron’s forces post-War of Wrath. This idea is stupid for a number of reasons, not the least of which that Finrod is canonically reembodied in Valinor before War of Wrath even starts, much less serving Sauron in any capacity.

Well if nothing else, Numenor looks beautiful in the trailer

The statue is giving me both Colossus of Rhodes and Argonath vibes which is great! The way the buildings are built into the hills makes me think of the Mediterranean, which tracks since Gondor has Greco-Roman inspired architecture. Meneltarma looks amazing. Trailer shot #1 is good. The same cannot be said for the rest.

With the title announcement for the Rings of Power/Amazon lotr show: no gatekeeping. We are not going to gatekeep the Silmarillion and other extended Tolkien lore from the show fans. No matter what Amazon does to the original material, absolutely no gatekeeping about show fans not being “real fans” or anything like that. My hopes have been raised slightly by Wheel of Time not getting completely butchered but they’re called adaptations not book-to-screen-reproductions for a reason.

Thank you! The wig is not Arda... actually I don't think I have any of their wigs? Their stock seems geared more toward anime, so my default go-to wig companies tend to be Pose or Wig Is Fashion. This one, however, came from eBay. But it's also about 75% custom, and here's why.

The base eBay wig is one I bought like ten years ago for intended Finarfin purposes, but it ended up not working. The colour was too flat, the density was too thick, the hairline was too round, and I just didn't want to bother dealing with that. So it sat in a bin of unused cosplay supplies until May of this year when I realized it'd actually be great for Annatar... if I bothered to put in the work. And it needed a lot of work.

First up was altering the shape of the hairline. Here's a really terrible picture of me trying on the wig with a roughly stitched thread outline of what I needed to add to both cover my own hair fully and better match Annatar's look. Next to it is a picture of the process, tying in individual hairs one at a time to fill the required shape. Ps I used a combo of hair from this wig, hair from another blond wig, and my own hair from when it was blond and I cut it all off but kept the ponytail. I also removed some knots from the part to make it thinner and more natural looking.

After fixing the hairline came fixing the density and colour. Density was easy. I just went through and removed a third of the wefts. For colour, I added back in a few wefts from a different cheap Amazon wig I'd previously taken apart to fill out another project. So instead of just being one flat shade, it now has a depth of tones. Picture one: replacing wefts. Picture two: flat colour before. Picture three: blended colour after.

After all this, I just needed to cut and style, and HERE'S WHERE I MAJORLY FUCKED UP. The weekend before dragoncon, I cut this piece of shit wig too short by like. 3 cm. So then I had to spend an entire night cutting out EVERY SINGLE WEFT and replacing it with ones I'd cut out before, or the other ones from the donor wig. Luckily I had those. So yeah. Every single weft in this wig has been replaced.

Then I cut it again and probably left it too long but my dudes, that is a problem for future me when I'm feeling less skittish about. Things.

And that's the story of how this elf wig was corrupted and remade to suit Sauron.

random headcanon:  if anybody in cobra kai fits the role of femme fatale it's kreese. he's ruined the lives of numerous promising young men by luring them from the straight and narrow, he showed up to johnny's door in the dead of night in a sultry puff of smoke, he pushed terry into a downward spiral by winking at him (#girl). the only reason people don't recognize this is because he's 75 and has plate glass chest hair, do better.

According to the drop down menu, 27! A lot of them are overlaps but I’ve still covered a lot of ground over the years. Niche YA, children’s movies, non-niche bestselling YA, Star Wars, anime. A few things I’m still interested in, a few I’m not. Sometimes I get a little embarrassed that there’s a paper trail of all my old fascinations but it is nice to have an archeological record of the last few years.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

For It Shines Bright and Never Changes, a 90k Kubo and the Two Strings AU from 2016-2018. My longest and most popular story. I’m actually proud of the planning that went into it.

Aftermath of an Announcement, a frankly kind of shoddily written Steven Universe fic that I remember writing at midnight on the couch outside my bedroom in England. Inexplicably recommended on TvTropes, which might explain the ridiculously disproportionate attention it got?

Regina, a decent little SvTFoE story that got some very good abandoned artwork. Thoroughly disproven bu the rest of the show, I think? I never finished watching it.

The Most Valuable Resource. Probably what my Silm friends know me from! Sauron and baby Celebrimbor in Angband at the very beginning of the first age. I fell in love with writing Sauron in this, he’s a rather delightful awful.

Obsidian Sister, more cartoons, more sibling relationship drama, lots of hopeful worldbuilding for something that I kind of lost interest in. A good read on review though.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes! I love comments and getting replies to them so I always try to respond. My only regret is that it can sometimes take me too long to get people their responses. @everyone I am sorry!

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably my most recent one? I do tend to lean towards canon compliant vignettes when I’m bored and those can be bittersweet at best but not outright tragic. In most stories there’s a seed of hope, however deeply buried it is.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

No crossovers that I can recall. Keep in mind that I’ve forgotten a good portion of that 75 fic backlog.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

A few times but it was mostly confusing? I simply didn’t know what to do with it. It’s like being handed a dead lizard by a cat, yes, you’re very proud of this but I’m not sure where it’s supposed to go.

I did once spend several paragraphs defending Elwing in the comments of a story I’d written about Elwing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, one of them showed up on Wattpad once? I only found out because I was googling a nice fic rec someone wrote for the same story. In the end I didn’t do anything about it. Maybe my entire oeuvre is on Wattpad but I doubt it because I stopped writing Avengers fanfic a very long time ago.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Several of my Silm fics have been translated into Russian. It’s a privilege every time and I love going and seeing the final result!

No. Used to do a bit of silly RP when I was younger but it’s not quite the same.

Hmm, I like Silvergifting quite a lot but I have a weak spot for trios. They feel more harmonic. Eonwë/Elwing/Eärendil is probably my favorite Silm ship, for example, though I’ve only written the one story for them. If we’re talking favorite of all time then I suppose we’d have to go back to the basics. Nancy Drew/Bess/George.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Often by the time I exert the energy to put something down on paper I’m already pretty committed to finishing it? A lot of my drafting goes on in my head so I only have a few WIPs in type from the past year and only one that I think I can discard as abandoned. It’s a Micheal and Sasha Magnus Archives Spirally self delusion and dreams story.

What are your writing strengths?

Decent worldbuilding and turn of phrase? I know I can make a sentence hit, which is good. And I am quite proud of some of my backstory work and research, including some hard scrabble conlang despite my absolute lack of a linguistics background

What are your writing weaknesses?

Too bogged down by melodrama, too many runon sentences, poor grammatical skills. Also I struggle a lot with giving characters distinct speaking voices; they all end up sounding like me which is no good. I’d like to be better at descriptions as well.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I swap my standards around depending on the feeling of the story and the concepts I’m trying to convey to the reader. Fëa might work for a short specialist one-shot about Gondorian scholars discussing elven concepts but then in a story from Celebrimbor’s perspective I’d use the more generic “soul”. Formality, familiarity, ease of access to lay Tolkien readers, the perspective of the characters and what their “native tongue” is keeping in mind that most of the Silm+ is designed as a translation. There are lots of factors. Same goes for a story with terms in Chinese or another extant language.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

On this account? A book about teens and magic. Online? The 39 Clues, a co-written boook series for middle grade children. Ever as a human being? It depends on if you count when I was very small and would lead my sisters in games where I was Aragorn niece and we were fighting at the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

MIDDLE EARTH 30 Day Challenge Day 22: Character You Pity Most

So here we are, Day 22! Character you pity the most. This is a fun one though, I don’t think I follow most fandom expectation. That’s okay though. I love switching things up though I suspect I’ve become a little predictable.

Let me address the character most people think of when this question is raised—Gollum. Now, I won’t lie, I do pity Gollum. Or to be more precise, I pity the creature he used to be, Sméagol. That was a distinction I started a while ago: Gollum is a corrupted, dark creature that will do what he has to in order to serve the Ring because he has utterly lost his soul to it. Sméagol is the River Folk that made a horrible mistake and in his emotional weakness, fell prey to the ring’s promise. Sméagol still loves his cousin and has never forgiven himself for murdering him. In fact, while little is known about their family, it is surmised that they held a similar to relationship to the bond that Merry and Pippin have, which makes it more heart breaking.

It's actually really disheartening because Sméagol almost wins out over Gollum, due to Frodo's kindness. There is actually a point in time where we see Gollum nearly disappear and Sméagol, "slowly put out a trembling, hand, very cautiously he touched frodo's knee- but almost the touch was a caress. For a fleeting moment, could one of the sleepers have seen him, they would have thought that they beheld an old weary hobbit, shrunken by the years that had carried him far beyond his time, beyond his friends and kin, and the fields and streams of youth, an old starved pitiable thing."

However, Sam awakes and immediately accuses Sméagol of wrong-doing and it seems that this accusation is what makes Sméagol surrender to Gollum. Tolkien utilizes a "green tint in the eyes" to symbolize Gollum being in command and while before, it would flicker, after this event, "the green glint did not leave his eyes". That is what is most pitying to me. Sméagol _could_ have been saved, and nearly was, but for one cruel act. I really love how this emphasizes that while a good, unremarkable deed can save someone, likewise, a cruel but not uncommon one can condemn someone.

However, there is one that I pity more than Gollum.

No surprise, we're back to the Durin line again and that award has to go to Thorin, specifically Movie Thorin who has a lot more development than Book Thorin (though the Appendixes gives more background than The Hobbit does, probably because The Hobbit is told from Bilbo's POV).

I just...I feel so bad for Thorin. He really presents as curmudgeon who is pretty stoic but when you look at how his life panned out, it's really hard to blame him for it.

He watched his grandfather give into Dragon Sickness and greed when he was less than 24 (by the book, the Movie implies he is of mature age for Dwarves so at least 75) but either way, he was quite young. Given the Dwarves' strong link to family, this must have crumbled him to see someone who no doubt had been deeply involved in his life as he grew suddenly giving way to madness, such so that he probably did not even recognize his loved ones anymore.

Then, there's the attack of Smaug. Again, the book states that Thorin was 24 which would have been preteenish in Dwarvish terms, if not younger but the movie indicates he was a young man, maybe early 20s by our standards or around Fili's age. He had to flee with his father, his grandfather (having to forcefully pull the half-crazed man from the hoard of gold) and lost the only home he had ever known.

Then, there's the struggle to survive. With no home, the Dwarves wandered Middle Earth, looking for settlement before attempting to take back Moria. This ended in a horrible massacre and the death of Thorin's grandfather, right in front of him, and the death of his little brother Frerin. His father, Thrain, vanished in the battle, leaving Thorin with only his little sister Dis left.

They make a living in the Blue Mountains but it's a hard living, one where he has to work to maintain the survival of his people in addition to serving as their political leader and ruler. In a sense, working three jobs. He works with the others to maintain the safety of their kind but there are still battles and conflicts, during which he loses his brother-in-law and thus, steps in as a father-figure for his two sister-sons. While he loves them dearly, this is another pressure placed onto his shoulders. All of this is being done without the support of the other dwarf clans because they will only rally to the one that possesses the Arkenstone, which is lost amid the treasure trove of Erebor.

Then, he sets out for Dunland in hopes of finding his father because he had heard rumors that he had been spotted only to be disappointed. He would never see his father again. Gandalf finally approached him with hopes of reclaiming Erebor and thus, not only winning back a culture, gold and home that was rightfully his but a means of uniting the dwarves and giving his family what he felt they rightfully deserved. Despite all this, he still falls to the Dragon Sickness and while he fights his way out of it, far more than what his grandfather had been able to do, he dies in the battle to protect what is his. Perhaps worse than even that is that he has to watch his sister-sons, boys that he had helped raise, die before him. Boys that, upon realizing they were in a potential trap, he even was willing to abandon pursuit of his mortal enemy in an attempt to save them.

Seriously, can someone give this guy a break? It's interesting that the Dwarves re-taking Erebor would actually play a role in the battle against Sauron. It isn't touched upon but there was a great battle at Erebor where Easterlings, under the rule of Sauron attempted to take the Lonely Mountain and Dale, presumably both for the riches and for the strategic position. The dwarves having retaken their homeland played a major role in these armies being pushed back. Also interesting is that after the capture of Gollum, ambassadors of Sauron approached the Lonely Mountain twice, each time asking about Hobbits and offering three of Dwarven Rings of Power plus the return of Moria in exchange for this information.

The Dwarves refused.

I can't help but pity Thorin, in no small part because life just never cut him a break. He had his faults but overall, all the guy was asking for was the return of his home that was taken from him and a chance to give his family the good life that they had lost.

He lost his own life and the life of his two dearest sister-sons in the process. I know life isn't fair but...damn.

1. Shay Van Buren from The Most Popular Girls In School

MPGIS is a YouTube series featuring stop-motion Barbie dolls who are dramatic high schoolers that swear a lot, and it’s HILARIOUS! But it’s more than just a YouTube humor series. The characters’ growth and the complex plots -- the plot twists! -- are so well done. Also, 75% of the characters are female and so it was really hard to pick a favorite, but I love Shay’s arc. She starts off as the cheerleaders’ No. 1 Enemy, but as the series goes on she becomes more and more complex and sympathetic. Even if her go-to plan is to put ex-lax in her enemies’ drinks.

2. Jyn Erso from Rogue One/Star Wars

Jyn’s one of the (many) reasons why I love Rogue One so much. She’s been accused of being too passive, which I see and which I also think is fully intentional. I think a lot of the times we aren’t in control of where we’re going -- we just have to roll with what we’ve been dealt, and seeing Jyn do that and still have agency over her ultimate fate was great. I also love that Jyn and Galen mirrored Luke and Vader. Not sure why, I just do, lol.

3. Alison Hendrix from Orphan Black

I think a lot of the time housewives / stay-at-home moms are looked down on, especially on this website... But for a lot of them, their lives aren’t exactly butterflies and rainbows; kids are serious commitment and sacrifice. Alison just wants a normal life and to protect her family from the conspiracy that threatens them, and ends up going through a lot. She becomes a drug dealer, drug addict, and murderer? And then hippie? It’s pretty wild. :) (Watch Orphan Black!)

4. Wonder Woman from DCEU

I cry, every single time, through the last 30 minutes of this movie just because I’m reminded that I’ve never seen anything like her movie or even, really, her before. I don’t know what else to say. She and her movie just mean so, so much to me.

5. Arwen from The Lord of the Rings

I’m like. Low-key in love with Arwen. When I first watched the movies I was like, “Oh. Arwen. :/” and I thought she was kind of lame but now, years later, I’m pretty sure I would die for her. :’) Liv Tyler is also super gorgeous so ummmm hmm yes

6. Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok/MCU

SHE’S LITERALLY THE COOLEST. Usually the funny, drunk, macho sidekick is the hero’s male bro friend, but this time they’re a badass warrior lady! And it works so well!! I think Valkyrie’s awesome and hilarious, and even though watching her chug enough alcohol to kill twenty livers made me genuinely frightened, it was a good sort of frightened!

7. Christine Chapel from Star Trek TOS

A smart, capable woman who basically runs the Medbay as Head Nurse while the doctor in charge runs around getting caught up in Drama!!! She may not be a badass the way Uhura is, but like the aforementioned other female main, she gets her job done while still being a fully emotional, caring, functioning character. I like Chapel because she obviously lead a pretty cool life, and I dunno, I don’t think she gets as much cred as Uhura and Rand. Who are also both hella awesome! Star Trek did a good job, tbh. (Also Chapel has amazing eyes and this beautiful voice but that’s beside the point lololol)

8. Luthien from The Silmarillion (which I’m counting as separate from LOTR, it’s totally fine :’))

Luthien is basically the Dwayne The Rock Johnson + Arnold Schwarzenegger combo of the Tolkien verse. She beats Sauron to save her boyfriend from getting eaten by werewolves. She steals a dog from some of the Coolest elves around. She make a cloak out of her own hair, which is becomes an Invisibility Cloak. SHE’S SO COOL

9. Joyce Byers from Stranger Things

I know people meme her a lot, lol, but Winona Ryder’s performance has brought me to tears several times. Joyce has been through waayyy too much, and she deserves better. Just let her mother her kids in peace. Stop attacking her kids with monsters from other dimensions smh??

10. Cassandra from Tangled: Before Ever After

Cassandra is Rapunzel’s lady-in-waiting, but she’s also her best friend. She’s the perfect kind of cynical, definitely caring counter to Rapunzel’s steadfast optimism and naivety. She wants to be a part of Corona’s legion of Guards and is driven by her need to prove herself to her adoptive father (the Captain), but in the end finds herself more than capable of leading. Wonderful first season arc. :) Also, she gives me very gay vibes???
