Sarah Good and the Salem Witch Trials

Sarah Good was one of the first of three women accused of witchcraft in Salem, MA. She was arrested on March 1st of 1692 and died by hanging on July 19th of 1692. They even imprisoned her small daughter and had her testify against Sarah. At the time of her arrest, she was pregnant and gave birth eventually in prison. Unfortunately, the child didn’t live long. Eventually her small child was freed…

My third and last spooky story.

𝑆𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑚 1892- 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑤𝑛.

Emma always was a strange girl.

She was the niece of the mayor of the town, a rich man and a loving uncle who took care of Emma when her mother died. She liked to spend her time in the forest.

Some speculated that she had a lover she was meeting every night. Others said that she was collecting herbs and mushrooms for medicinal purposes.

Others simply thought that because she was rich, she was just strolling around the riverbed as she didn’t need to work for living. No one really knew what Emma was doing in the forest. But people started to see strange lights moving among the trees and hear weird noises resounding.

Hollow Eve was about to be celebrated as the children were running to their houses. Their parents always told ‘em the same story.

“ Legend said that on the night of the last day of October, when the leaves are falling from the trees and the wind is blowing from the cold mountains of the North, the deads will come back to life, to torment the livings. “ they told their kids. Little did they known that the legend was true. Emma was in fact a witch. She was a direct descendant of Salem’s powerful witch, Sarah Good, one of the three first-accused woman of witchcraft.

Emma was trying to bring her mother back to life as “The Veil” that was separating the livings from the deads was at its lowest. But breaking the very rules of Nature, comes with a price : “For a life, Death give back, another, Death shall take”.

The one she loves the most, must take her mother’s place !

No one ever seen Emma or her uncle again after this. But some said that on every 31th of October, three silhouettes can be seen in the forest.

A few extra old tombstones. The Burying point was the most talked about cemetery when I was researching things to see in Salem. Again, this is ironic because as I heard from the tour guide there as we arrived, Salem is called “Witch City”, but anyone accused of witchcraft was not allowed to be buried there and there is a judge involved in the trials in it. It was cool to see the very old tombstones, but we weren’t allowed in. On our next trip, we’ll find a cemetery we can walk in and can do tombstone rubbings. Even if the Burying Point weren’t marked off, we wouldn’t have been able to do the rubbings... I mean just because they’re 300 years old... 😜😉 At least the Witch Trails Memorial is right beside it. Though I couldn’t get to all of the stones because another tour group was stuffed in there, but I was able to get a couple of pictures: one was particularly touching because her 8th great granddaughter left a postcard to honor her and one of Sarah Good because someone I know traced her ancestry to her.
