Ramblings Below the Cut

Wow this took me a while. Honestly I've seen so many good posts being like: do you ever wonder if Ben views himself as an alien wearing human skin, and feels less human after all the years of using the Omnitrix.

Also I adhere to the "the main characters will wear different clothes cause if I have to draw the same shirt 60000x im gonna throw myself off a cliff" laws. Ben has an actual wardrobe.

The good thing is his parents fucking care, they take him to therapy and got him some anti-depressants. I went with Prozac cause that's the most common one. Also helps with mood swings. Honestly I don't think Ben developed his "Let's Repress it until it goes away!" Attitude until he was a teen and dealing with the high breed invasion. Hence why you see him being more emotional here.

Also the behavior at the therapist was absolutely me, I hated therapy when I was in middle school and high school. Didn't actually realize how helpful it was until college.

Okay anyways it was a lot of fun drawing the different aliens. And yes I gave Wildmutt paw pads, cause they're adorable!

Can you tell I hate drawing backgrounds? Seriously they're the worst part of doing comics, hence why that second page only has one, and the first page is all backgrounds. I truly do not think I will ever improve on drawing them because of how much I hate them.

That last page is my favorite other than the therapy scene and how nicely Wildmutt turned out.

Before anyone asks, yes that's a halo, he's a fucking martyr and basically a soldier for all of UAF, boy has no sense of self beyond the Omnitrix. It was fun drawing the virus in that last page too. And I of course took liberties with drawing the aliens. I'll never forgive the show for not making Heatblast more... firey.

Anyways hope y'all enjoy these pages!! Next two should come out by Wednesday if I keep to my current pacing. Gonna start moving into the UAF period, since I want this comic to mostly take place within OV.

You know, I used to like the hc that at some point in his life Ben started taking some karate classes together with Gwen, but now I think about it and I think Ben would like to do something calmer in his free time.

His day to day is full of violence, he definitely does not want more, so I thought maybe he would choose a more relaxing activity.

Idk, I think maybe he would practice yoga. There are no fights, no yelling, no stressful situations. He likes it.

At first, he practiced yoga alone, because he was ashamed that someone found out, but one thing led to another and now he practices yoga in the living room of his house; his mother join him almost always and sometimes, when he is not at work, his father join them.

Ben likes to spend those little moments with his parents.

You know, I really don't think he have time to do these things, but it's okay to dream

[A POTENTIAL IDEA]

Where The Magic Happens: Luckcharm

What is it —

A 2D animated action/urban fantasy/adventure movie and female-centric spin-off/second full-fledged reboot of Ben 10, this time not only is it far truer to the Original Series right down to it being done in the exact same animation style but it's also serving as a throwback to the action cartoons of the 90s, the 2000s and even the early-to-mid 2010s.

I haven't got the entire idea or pitch down but there's definitely a few things I've already got down —

First off, the SYNOPSIS:

Taking place in the fictional Bellwood, California, we follow a 10 year old incredibly intelligent and booksmart yet spoiled, arrogant, overachieving, obnoxious and rude brat Gwendolyn "Gwen" Tennyson (Meagan Moore) who is about to discover that the fairy tales she already thinks she's too old for are more true than they seem when on the first day of summer vacation, she is kidnapped by a group of women that consists of witches, aliens and supervillains who take her to their hidden lair in Yosemite National Park where it's revealed that they're putting together an entire army of young witches that are Gwen's age to lead against the main headquarters within Mount Everest and Gwen herself, much to her shock and horror, is a witch who has yet to awaken her powers.

Unfortunately for them, things don't go according to plan when Gwen manages to escape and now must use all of her skills and wit as well as luck to fight against the odds and free the other girls from their grasp all the while fighting the main women themselves — sinister teen sorceress Charmcaster (Kari Wahlgren), amoral tech-wearing criminal Rojo (Jennifer Hale), dangerous female Uxorite Xylene (Grey DeLisle), seductive female Lenopan Camille Mann (Grey DeLisle as well), selfish circus freak Frightwig (Cree Summer) and even Gwen's own aunt Sandra Tennyson (Tara Strong) who it turns out has a dark side with all of them being more than willing to harm children.

The few notes/trivia/details I do have on it are —

• The movie will have a solid two and a half hour length with not a moment wasted and have a clear cut beginning, middle and end with tight pacing that moves at a fast pace without it ever feeling exhausting, I want it to be the type of movie that leaves you feeling satisfied after getting off a kick-ass rollercoaster or theme park ride.

• Like the Original Series, the movie will have a genuine dark and intense edge to show the stakes and the danger that the characters are in right down to the fact that Gwen survives because she either uses her skills and quick thinking or she shere gets lucky. For example, in the middle of the movie, Gwen falls down a chute and ends up landing face-first into the boobs of a resting Charmcaster who proceeds to devour the ten year old whole in one gulp with a twisted smile on her face, only for later to have Gwen use something that Charmcaster swallowed earlier to literally blow herself out of the latter's stomach — blowing a still alive Charmcaster in half.

• All of the original voice actresses will reprise their roles but be given new and distinct things added to their characters to work with after all these years. The big one being that Gwen starts this story off as a spoiled brat who is genuinely unlikable and is meant to be only to discover her actions have consequences and that she has a heart after all.

• Despite it seeming like their the main villains throughout, it's towards the end that the antagonists Charmcaster, Rojo, Xylene, Camille Mann, Frightwig and Sandra Tennyson have an unconventional heel-face turn where they decide to save both Gwen and all of the girls at Mount Everest.

• It does have a sudden downer ending though. As it looks like the day has been saved, Gwen has changed for the better and all of the other girls have returned home at long last, that is until Gwen finds Charmcaster, Rojo, Xylene, Camille Mann, Frightwig and Sandra Tennyson all in her room together where they say that Gwen, a mere ten year old girl, managed to do the unthinkable — she not only defeated them but she IMPRESSED them as well to where they now want to make Gwen "one of them" and they aren't taking no for an answer. A terrified Gwen tells them to stay back but all of them in unison finish off with saying "What we really want now..... is you!" as they close in on a now helpless Gwen.

Self examination of how I write the Tennysons:

Max: Literal trash. Do better my guy. Seriously.

Frank: Boring lawyer, but he tries.

Natalie: Bitch.

Ken: Oh right, he exists.

Gwen: The smartest and prettiest person ever.

Carl: Underachieving pothead with massive daddy issues, but also he survived being a teen dad, so respect.

Sandra: Wicked smart vegan teen mom doctor extraordinaire. Literal queen.

Ben: Sexy idiot who must suffer.

Bonus:

Kai: Complicated bitch.

Kenny: Look, he's doing his best with massive mommy AND daddy issues, okay? Do not bring up Eon. DO NOT.

Ben, sharp-shifting uncontrollably: I don't want to be a god!

Villain: Do you know why Max wanted to make you kept isolated? Same reason he convinced your parents to hide you away. He wants to control you! Control the boy who controls the power of the Omnitrix! BUT I WANT YOU TO CHOOSE YOUR PATH! YOU!!! NOT THAT CRUEL, ARROGANT, MANIPULATIVE OLD MAN!!!!!

It was quiet when Carl entered the house. He toed his shoes off and shrugged out of his jacket, lips pressed into a tight line. 

He left the entryway and entered the living room, where Sandra was seated on the couch. There was a lamp on and the TV was playing a rerun of an old sitcom, turned down so low that it was almost impossible to hear. 

"How is he?" Carl asked quietly.

Sandra gestured to her side. Carl peered over the back of the couch to see that Ben was laying next to her, his head on his mom's thigh. His chest rose and fell steadily with sleep. 

The sight helped Carl to relax some. "Good. He could use all the sleep he can get right now."

"I just can't believe the things that they're saying about him on the news," Sandra seethed as quietly as she could. "It is not Ben's fault that things happened the way that they did. But Heaven forbid that he makes a mistake, like all children do, because as soon as he messes up, all of the good he's done before and all the ways he's trying to fix it don't matter, and—!"

Her words steadily increased in volume, until they reached the point that Ben shifted. Both of his parents froze, waiting until Ben had settled back into sleep before daring to speak again.

What Ben and Gwen’s parents are like in comfort Ben au? Even Gwen’s brother.

I'm still in the process of deciding how to do them, but some of the things I'm considering are a) Max's children being aware of his job as a Plumber, b) Ken becoming a Plumber.

What I know for sure, the events of "Grounded" won't take place in my AU.

I have an entire fully fleshed out idea for a second Ben 10 reboot that is not only done in the same visual styles of the first three shows but also is a female-led TRILOGY of shows focusing on Gwen, Charmcaster, Sandra etc.

It's called the "Where The Magic Happens" Trilogy.
