I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!

#ask #non mdzs #My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl #So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume #but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice #and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. some of my samples arrived! sorry about the grainy quality of the pictures, my camera was just like Mm Grain

I've seen a few people interested in IBVS merch; uh. unfortunately, I have not designed any yet. that will be a thing I get around to eventually should the stars align. I have had a few ideas. we'll see.

the wooden ani charm turned out really good, the corpse party girls (whom I honestly just made for fun) also look really neat (the red acrylic looks very tasty). I drew a life series ladies set and included scott as a joke, but his colors came out a little washed out so some of his features are slightly hard to see.

the ani charm is actually based directly on a way old ani charm design I did back in 2019, back before I knew anything about getting them printed.

… and of course I still have this enormous pile of v3 rainbow keychains from 2022 that are in a drawer (though I have taken kage for my bag)

#art #traditional art #watercolour #fanart #vocal synth #synthesizer v #synthv #frimomen #asterian #genbu #alternate title: waveform measuring contest #based off a time i was testing out different vocals in a song that had a phoneme dragged across like five long notes #and i had put it an octave down and was testing it out with My Boys (tm)#and like. frimomen sounded nice but a bit odd because i only have his lite and those have an extra limited range #and asterian sounded wonderful BUT with a tasteful little falsetto softening of the highnotes as all AI banks are wont to do #and then. i put in genbu. and it was just a wall. his waveforms were like twice the size #instead of the auto falsetto of the AI banks (because standard banks assume you'll do that yourself with parameter shenanigans)#genbu just got louder. he just kept getting louder. it was awesome #that is one benefit of concatenative particularly in SV. SV is good about letting you like #blank out any autopitch etc compared to AI vocal synths BUT their naturalistic range can sometimes #be a detriment if you want a bit of an. unrelenting vocal flair. and for that u must go to sample based <3

Designed some spring charms and want to see which ones people like before I order any samples

For anyone who doesn’t know these are acrylic standees on small springs so they move around, ideal for displaying in your car but can work anywhere.

Note that these are concept sketches that I’ve laid down color on to give you an idea of a vibe and not cleaned up designs!

Maybe the solution to egg discourse, is that sometimes suggestions help trans people figure it out, and sometimes it pushes them deeper into denial instead, and so we shouldn't be making broad assumptions about what is or isn't good for someone, and just take each instance on a contextual basis?

#not a reblog #just based off the trans people I know #some were delayed for years by egg jokes #some were massively helped by them #some really wish they had had that help #and some wish they had that help but knowing them before and after figuring themselves out. it probably wouldn't have #people have different experiences #maybe I just have a weirdly diverse sampling to work with #but at least to me it feels like #both the egg prime directive #and the inverse response to that #are trying to simplify a nuanced question that isn't going to have the same answer every time #discourse

Pretty sure I mentioned it in the tags of an earlier post but I'm repeating it here too cause I think it's important:

Had the fight with Dolly not occurred, there would have been no bonding moment with her later that night when everyone else was asleep. The fic just timeskips straight to the next morning.

While she's furious with you in the moment, Dolly later finds herself impressed by your show of guts. Not a lot of people have the nerve to stand up to her like that. It makes her hesitate to keep associating you with a lower rung of the food chain, which (combined with the amount of stress she's under) eventually becomes a willingness to open up a little. In that moment, when no one else is awake to hear it, she confesses her fears to you as an equal.

The fight with Dolly is absolutely linked to her survival.

#ok stupid theory time!!#so Princess is supposed to be a princess doll right #but she looks nothing like the others #(even IF she was a princess doll that got ruined she'd still share similarities with the others like having remnants of a blue dress)#so i have two ideas as to why that is:#theory 1:#she was meant to be a special edition #but the machine messed her up as we are led to believe #OR theory 2:#(which is my personal favourite)#she was never actually meant to be a princess doll at all #what she really is is a test sample for multiple fabrics #that just so happens to share the same base as a princess doll #it makes sense #her dress (while patchwork) is too neatly sewn to have been tore up by the machine #not to mention her hair is completely different to the other princess dolls #and her sharing the same basic body as the princess doll would explain why she was on the production line alongside them #so in a way #she's a bit like sad sack #another thing to add to this theory #is that her speaking voice is different from the other princess dolls #(probably because Neil put in more effort because she's a main character)#idk i thought of this at like 3am #the raggy dolls #princess

It's so fucking crazy that I got back from working in Oregon for 4 months and now immediately am going to Texas to work for another 2.5 months. I'll have spent a collective 3 whole weeks at home before leaving LMAO

#that field tech life is crazy dude #honestly im kind of excited for it even tho its extremely last minute. cus i didnt even get offered the job til last thursday #but anyway i think itll be really good for my resume cus its something that i dont have a lot of experience in (stream sampling)#and the company actually pays pretty decent. AND theyre based out of a nearby city to where i currently live #so when i get back home i might be able to snag a local job with them #jawjackin
