Salted Egg Yolk Custard Steamed Buns Recipe 🐷 My favorite buns at dim sum!

A trio of Steamed Molten Salted Egg Yolk Custard Piggy Buns (猪仔流沙包) in a bamboo steamer basket. Contained within is savoury and sweet molten lava of salted egg yolk custard that burst out upon biting into the pig-face bun.

My brother’s table ordered the Crispy BBQ Honey Pork Buns (脆皮叉烧包) and he sent one over to our table. Inside it are juicy sweet pieces of char siu which went well with the lightly crispy bun.

We had the Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken wrapped in Lotus Leaf (珍珠糯米鸡), a more luxurious version of Lo Mai Gai. While the taste is decent, there is no wow factor though the lotus leaf did imparts it unique fragrant to the glutinous rice.

COLOURS: Symbolisms, Associations & Psychological Effects

Black. Especially in Gothic literature from the West, a black colour choice often represents death, evil, grief, and depression. Associated with fear, the unknown and often has a negative connotation. Black clothes can make you look thinner. A black background severely diminishes the readability of most type. Often the go to colour for funerals and grieving. It symbolizes stability and power, which gives a sense of authority. Thus, the black colour often represents professionalism and expertise.

Blue. Has positive and negative connotations in colour psychology. Some writers may use blue to represent serenity and tranquility, instilling a scene with a calming effect. Blue can also signify sadness, melancholy, or isolation. People who find someone very loyal and faithful are often called "true blue". Darker blues are associated with power, knowledge and seriousness. Blue is actually shown to suppress appetites a bit. The colour blue symbolizes wisdom and hope. Green. The colour green often symbolizes rebirth, growth, peace, jealousy, and greed. Green colours may also represent spring and renewal. It is a colour that is very easy on the eyes. Dark green is often associated with ambition. Green suggests stability, safety and hope. At the same time, it may denote a lack of experience in a particular field. Green symbolizes peace, growth, and nature. It is the colour of success, promoting healing and tranquility.

Orange. The colour orange often represents energy, excitement, joy, and creativity. Since orange is the colour of fire, it may also symbolize heat. Since orange is not as aggressive as red, it can actually stimulate brain activity. It is very useful to catch someone's attention, which is why it's used a lot to advertise food and toys.

Usually has positive connotations when used and thought of as safe. Associated a lot with healing, simplicity and sterility, which is why it's used in hospitals and healing centers as much as it is. The symbolic meaning of the colour white is truth and sometimes even indifference. It encourages feelings of safety and cleanliness. Clean, white clothes and linens show sterility since stains are easily visible. That’s why doctors and nurses frequently wear white lab coats and scrubs.

Yellow. Writers may use the colour yellow to symbolize creativity, happiness, optimism, and warmth—think of a yellow ray of sunlight poking out from a dark cloud. A common negative connotation of the color yellow is cowardice, popularized by the phrase “yellow-bellied.” Warming effect which stimulates body and mind. Gold is associated with the highest of luxury. When bright yellow is used with black it's one of the easiest colour combinations to see from long distances; when uses with lighter colours it's not so easy to see. Yellow ribbons are worn as a symbol of hope and used quite often to welcome home loved ones. Yellow is the colour of warmth, kindness, and happiness. It’s often associated with optimism and well-being and promotes energy.

Brown. This warm, earthy brown colour may symbolize dependability, comfort, and a sense of being grounded. Brown is also a neutral colour, and writers may use it to represent dullness and predictability. Brown is a colour that is related to very grounded traits such as simplicity, practicality, common sense and hard work. Can also be associated with those that are frugal and not too flashy.

Gray. Lighter grays are often thought of as more feminine while darker grays more masculine. Gray is considered by many to be a neutral colour; the perfect balance between light and dark / good and evil. Pop up the lighter grays and add a little shine to it, and thought immediately turns to silver, which correlates to wealth.

Recipes by Vivi: Lytkin Lava Cakes

WELCOME! This is requested by an ANON. And it’s inspired by: Nikita Lytkin!

-Ingredients-

3/4 cup Semi-sweet chocolate

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup all purpose flour (LEVELED)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/8 TSP salt

2 large eggs

2 large egg YOLKS

-Instructions-

1. Spray half of a 12 cup muffin tin with non stick cooking spray and dust with cocoa powder. Preheat your oven to 425°F

2. Chop the chocolate into chunks and add into a medium microwaveable bowl, microwave in 10 second portions until smooth, stirring between each. Put aside

3. Sift together all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl until combined. In a small bowl whisk the egg and egg yolks together.

4. Pour and mix the eggs and flour mixture into the chocolate. Use a rubber spatula to gently mix until there are no clumps. (Batter will be thick-er)

5. Carefully spoon the batter into the muffin tins and bake for 8-10 minutes until the sides look firm, the tops will be soft!

6. After allowing the cakes to cool for 1min take the cakes out the tin carefully use a spoon and flip them upside down on a plate! From here you can garnish with powdered sugar, berries, ice cream or chocolate syrup!

His mental break has been building up for weeks as we all know, from the losing his kids and 5 stages of grief turning grey, to him getting harmed by soul vultures and bleeding blue from the open wounds. his kids’ accessories being taken from their beds and burned in lava. him kidnapping and torturing a worker but then developing a twisted lima syndrome family relationship with them.

talking to photos of the eggs like they are really here, being put in jail. having his house get broken into, as his trust issues plummet even further into the gutter. finding out the federation is making reports about him and might come after him for the kidnapping. doing insane manipulation tests on his friends to find the secret federation spy, and actively burning bridges with them. reveal that he’s not been sleeping for 3 weeks.

And then today he meets codeflippa, being completely convinced that it’s the real flippa and arguing with the others because he’s so desperate for anything about the eggs. then suddenly finding dapper’s top hat in the maze. being singled out by an entity (cucurevil?) to get ticket #0003, now being forced to wonder if he was an original island resident and got his memories tampered with. q!max insisting the eggs are dead, and q!pierre implying there’s hidden cameras set up in his house didn’t help either

Like, god. buckets of salt just got poured in the wounds he’s been already dealing with in the span of a couple hours... of course it would all finally explode and cause a mental breakdown. this poor cubito got severely paranoid & disassociated from reality + his own memories and it was terrifying to watch his madness spiral in the last hour or so of stream. q!bad really needs help, but it’s only gonna get worse from here I fear…

Bulk of the population lives inside volcanoes. The homes are carved out of the walls and the layers spiral around in a walkway.

They use the lava for light and power (Was in a fanfic I read that I can't remember)

They add chilli flakes to food instead of salt.

All the Trolls that were in Barb's Angler are part of her 'court'.

Techno Trolls 🌊

Fresh out of the egg, the babies are like tadpoles. Tiny head with a tail, little arms and a single hair. Also gills, they can't breath above water until they're a bit older.

They wear ropes of glow beads as formal wear.

Trollex has an extended royal family living across the ocean.

Classical Trolls🪶

Have huge libraries and museums.

Their beds are more like nests of cashmere and silks pillows.

Trollzart isn't royal. The one in charge is whoever works their way to head composer. Maybe a vote? He will have the majority vote when choosing a successor.

Hades Fish - What They Taste Like, And How To Cook Them

TARTARUS

Hellfish - Evolved from pond snails, and as Achilles says in his codex, they traveled from the surface to the Underworld by sticking to the bottom of Charon's boat, and eventually became undead. Around the size of a navel orange. Tastes mostly like regular freshwater snail, except less of the 'dirt' aftertaste and more 'metallic blood' thanks to the Styx. Usually served lightly blanched to avoid chewiness, and served drizzled with oil and salt.

Knucklehead - Originally the spirits of common saltwater sardines and anchovies that convalesced into their own undead species. Classical Greece's fishing economy centered heavily around those two fishes, and that cultural reverence essentially brought the Knucklehead to existence, so to speak, through indirect worship. Average size of 12-15 inches, and they no longer have scales or skin, exposing their translucent green flesh. Has the flaky texture of oil fish when cooked, and tastes like if you stuffed a sardine with pennies.

Scyllascion - Related to the legendary Scylla, but didn't spawn from her as individuals. Like real life catfish, they can keep growing to monstrous sizes, and are aggressive and territorial. Only one Scyllascion hangs out in each large patch of Styx. Zagreus only ever catches the younger, smaller ones, since the huge varieties are too smart to be fooled by a Rod Of Fishing. Caught Scyllascion range from 17 inches to a Great Dane. It's cooked by removing its iron-hard head and fins, then roasted whole or in stews. Meat is surprisingly mild and absorbs flavor well.

ASPHODEL

Slavug - An example of a species that never evolved from a surface animal. They spend an equal amount of time in and out of the lava, sometimes hanging out on the rocks or the shore. An adult Slavug is about a foot long, and five inches thick. When they die, they go from lava-hot to stone cold, and usually cooked by boiled or steamed whole. Slice them like a cake to serve. The flesh is bouncy and porous like bread, and they taste like shellfish.

Chrustacean - These clearly-lobster-adjacent fish are not tolerant to the lava like the Slavug is, its carapace serves as a heat-proof shield. Shades of Asphodel sometimes keep them as pets because of their inquisitive, friendly behavior. Cooking Chrustaceans means prying off their metal shell before exposing them to heat, which leaves their raw, goopy flesh exposed before cooked to firm and usually made into lobster cakes, or as toppings on salad. Tastes like if a lobster was boiled in a sulfur spring.

Flameater - Canonically thought to be native to the Underworld, and perhaps related to the Ladon dragon that Heracles killed. Its large maw is actually a filter feeding system for Phlegathon's minerals, and its passive and shy, making it hard to catch. Average size of a desktop keyboard, and its mouth alone can stretch to the circumference of an umbrella. Cooked through application of frostbite by use of ice, usually by burying it in an icebox for 15-20 minutes. Eaten alone, its weirdly cartilage-ridden and tastes strongly of overcooked egg, but it makes for a great broth or stock starter.

ELYSIUM

Chlam - All fish of the Lethe feed on memories, and this one most of all. Evolved from surface scallops, not clams, lending it its flat, ridged shell and glowing eyes. Usually around the size of a human hand, but the older ones can be the size of a truck tire. Has the soft texture of real life scallops, but its taste depends on what memories it had most recently eaten; bittersweet, salty, horny, etc. Cooking multiple Chlams together in a stew makes for a taste best described as 'headache-inducing' if not spiced correctly.

Charp - The Codex entry implies that its the shade of real life Koi fish (which are colored varieties of the widespread Amur carp), but Hades also implies that its mythology exists independently outside of the Greek world. Koi wouldn't naturally exist above ground, and no one in-game would be familiar with them aside from a possible passing encounter. Therefore, the Charp evolved from common Greek carp into an undead species similar to the koi, and a few worldly shades have remarked on its similarity to a surface species found on distant shores. Like real-life koi, it tastes and cooks like carp, but tinged with memories like the Chlam.

Seamare - Thanks to the Lethe's calm, warmer waters, it has a few reefs that house a natural-borne seahorse-akin fish. They only feed on pleasant memories, lending it a sweet taste, and are usually the size of a dinner plate. They're also intelligent, and can memorize human faces. Catching them is difficult not because they hide, but because they fight back; thanks to all the warrior memories they've swallowed, they have a battle-spun spirit and won't let you reel them in without a struggle. If not kept as pets, they're usually speared on sticks and fire-roasted over coals.

TEMPLE OF STYX

Gupp - Naturally borne from the Styx, it's less of a guppy analogy and more like a Greek freshwater shad. They swim in schools against fast currents, and are usually the length of a pencil case. But like a guppy, they livebirth fry dozens at a time, and are used as utility fish for seeding waters. It lacks scales, like real life catfish, and has the unique life/death cycle of livebirthing pre-existing Gupp in a method of rebirth whereas all other Underworld fish have to wait to respawn upon being eaten. Thanks to its proximity to the surface, it tastes exactly like a regular river fish, just scaleless.

Scuffer - All fish in the Temple are sought-after for their unique overworld-ajacent taste, and the Scuffer even more so for its utility purposes; its tough and giant swim bladder can be made into high quality vellum, its toxin has many medicinal purposes useful to immortals, and its liver a fruity delicacy served raw. Other parts of its flesh are edible to anybody immortal/undead, but you still 'die' so its not recommended. A Scuffer's liver tastes reminiscent of a merlot thanks to its life spent swimming and feeding upon the Styx's floor. The adult ones can be as big as a pineapple.

Stonewal - Evolved from swordfish, and retains their migratory, aggressive behavior. They're an important part of the Underworld's ecosystem, because they regulate the population of any fish that make it too close to the surface world. Range wildly in size, from a modest foot long to as big as a bathtub. Usually cut into fillets and fried upon flat griddles, or served roasted on a rotating spit whole during feasts as a centerpiece. And like the previous two, they have utility purposes as well; their long, sturdy, but flexible bones are made into crafting tools, and weapons like bows and arrows.

CHAOS

Mati - Its appearance is a dead ringer to real life anglerfish fry, but it'll spend its whole life in their gelatinous, bloated form. As a fish of Chaos, it was borne from and represents sapient gaze; AKA, a gaze cast with intelligent emotion. Eating a boiled Mati has the texture of eating an old grape with a hard kernel within, and tastes like if fresh sea urchin was a yeasty porridge. Mati that can be caught are no bigger than a smartphone, but if you look into the distance, you can see car-sized ones.

Projelly - These fish spawn from Chaos like shed skin cells; unconsciously and ever continuing. They're unintelligent except for a minor nervous system that propels their bodies along in a purposeless compulsion. Which is what makes them hard to catch, since they float around too deep for a fisher to just scoop them up, but good luck trying to dredge one upon your hook. Pretty tasteless, but with a pleasant cartilage-y texture. Often served dried out as a snack, then re-hydrated or marinated to be chopped and plated cold with oil.

Voidskate - The biggest fish you can catch in-game. If you look closely, you'll notice that those table-sized Voidskates are seemingly swimming upside down, because when you cast a hook into their reality, you're actually pulling them down from where they fly in the air. Not only that, but their fishable state is their limbo life, and their 'dead, eaten' state is their actual life. They're a source of study from philosophers trying to learn more about life and death, but they never get far. Prepared by slicing into thick, dense steaks, then fried on grills. Has a sour, rich brightness like buttermilk.

Part 1: Candied Hazelnuts

Equipment - Frying pan - Parchment paper - Baking sheet - Spatula - Airtight container - Silica gel packets (optional)

Ingredients - 1/2 cup hazelnuts (65g) - 1/4 cup sugar (50g)

Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

Chop up the hazelnuts into big pieces and toast on medium low heat for a few minutes, stirring.

Allow nuts to cool, remove loose skins using hands or towel.

Put nuts back in clean pan along with the sugar. Toast on medium heat while stirring constantly until sugar is melted. Keep stirring to coat all nuts with melted sugar.

Pour the sugar-hazelnut mixture onto parchment-lined pan, let cool completely.

Chop up the hardened clusters with a knife into smaller pieces.

Use immediately or store in airtight container.

Part 2: Maple Caramel Syrup

Equipment - Small saucepan - Small whisk

Ingredients - 1 cup brown sugar (208g) - 1/2 cup water (120g) - 2 TBSP maple syrup (40g) - 2 TBSP butter (30g)

Cut butter into small pieces.

Add sugar and water to saucepan, whisk well

Add maple syrup and bring mixture to a boil, stirring, on medium-high heat, then immediately switch to medium/med-low heat, simmer for about 2-3 minutes

Add butter and stir until it melts, then immediately remove from heat and allow it to cool to eating temperature.

Serve warm.

Part 3: Hazelnut Pancakes

Equipment - Frying pan - Spatula - 3 mixing bowls - Sifter - Whisk - Electric whisk - Egg separator (optional)

Ingredients - 1/2 cup flour, minus 1 TBSP (55g) - 1 TBSP cornstarch (10g) - 2 TBSP hazelnut flour (14g) - 2 TBSP brown sugar (26g) - 1 tsp baking powder (5g) - 1/8 tsp salt (under 1g) - 1 large egg - 1/2 cup buttermilk (112g) - 3 tablespoons milk (45g)

Batter

Separate egg, place egg whites in clean mixing bowl, set aside.

Mix yolk with buttermilk and regular milk in a second bowl.

Sift together dry ingredients into a third bowl. Mix in any larger pieces (ie hazelnut chunks) by hand.

Pour dry ingredients into the buttermilk mixture, fold with rubber spatula, do not overmix. Rest for 20 minutes.

Beat the egg whites to stiff peaks, you can tell it's done if you can turn the bowl upside down without anything falling out.

Fold egg foam into rested batter until evenly incorporated. Use immediately.

Frying

Preheat pan on medium heat with enough butter to coat the bottom, pan is hot enough when a drop of water added to the pan sizzles.

Scoop batter into preheated pan, 1/3 cup per pancake (diameter should be 4 inches or 10cm) coax into a round shape with your spatula.

Cook 4-5 minutes per side.

Repeat until all pancakes are fried. If you need to re-apply butter, temporarily turn down the heat first to avoid exploding butter.

To serve, stack pancakes to desired height, top with butter, syrup, and candied hazelnuts.

Chocolate Lava Torta w/ steps and recipe

Chocolate Lava Torta Recipe:

Eggs, whole - 4

Sugar, white - 180g

Salt - 2g

Vanilla Extract - 10g

Butter, melted - 150g

Dark Chocolate, chopped (or chips so long as the cacao percentage is 60-70%) melted into butter - 190g

Flour - 4 tablespoons (40g)

Preheat oven to 400F (200C)

Melt butter and chopped chocolate together in the microwave or over the stove until smooth. Set aside to cool.

Beat eggs, vanilla, salt, and sugar together until doubled in volume - not white but like a pale yellow. Not exactly aerated. 

Mix in the combined melted butter and chocolate until thoroughly mixed.

Fold in flour.

Pour into an 8 inch (20 cm) cake pan lined with parchment paper.

Bake for roughly twenty minutes, until set on the sides but still wobbly in the center. 

Cool to room temperature, invert onto a serving plate, and enjoy. Serves about eight people or two very hungry weirdos in the dead of night. Photos in order

Hello, hello, my sweet darlings! Happy Friday to all of you! How has the week treated y'all? Are we excited for the weekend? Any fun plans ahead? If not, then I have the perfect recipe for you to try~. (・ω・)

It's been a while since I've last shared a recipe, hasn't it? I just haven't had time to actually be in the kitchen and try new stuff. But! I made myself time. I missed baking, making treats for my friends and myself, too! And so I dug on the internet until I found the perfect dessert.

Don't you hate it when you go to your favorite restaurant, that hasn't changed their menu in forever, and suddenly, your favorite choco treat isn't there anymore?

This recipe, while not entirely mine, is a mix of a few different ones I found and liked. Each had their own characteristic little thing, and so I mixed it all up to put together the Ultimate Lava Cake ! ＼(^_^)／

Mind you, the recipe is not exact as it is a mix of many– just make sure to use cups the same size for measurements, and you'll be fine!

If you like cooking, and chocolate, and are a lava cake enthusiast– believe me, you'll love this.

Prep: 15min - Cook: 12-15, check your oven! - Level: Medium, but very simple! - Makes: 4 servings!

Ingredients-

▪︎170gr semi-sweet chocolate ▪︎1/2 cup unsalted butter

▪︎2 full eggs + 2 egg yolks ▪︎Tea spoon of vanilla extract

▪︎1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (can also use granulated sugar- but confectioners gives it a special touch)

▪︎3 table spoon all-purpose flour ▪︎Pinch of salt ▪︎Cocoa powder

Optional-

▪︎For toppings, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream, or both!

Steps-

1- As always, we'll start preparing our ramekins and preheating the oven. Set your oven to 425F or medium heat, let it heat up steadily. Grease four 6-oz (or, 9cm diameter) ramekins with non-stick cooking spray and dust with cocoa powder! Tap out the excess so the cake bakes properly. This will help the lava cakes come out easily when inverted and prevent them from breaking!

2- Next up, melt the chocolate with the butter, chop and slice for faster melting! Can do it at the stove, medium heat on boiling water, or microwave it carefully, stopping every 15 to 20 seconds to prevent the chocolate from burning. Set aside to allow it to slightly cool.

3- We will then combine all the ingredients. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and egg yolks first, add then the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until combined. Pour in the melted chocolate into the egg mixture, along with the flour– sieve if posible! Then, with a rubber spatula, fold it in until fully combined. Important, DO NOT whisk or mix on this step! The batter will be thick but should NOT be lumpy, that is because we are not using any liquid ingredients. It will be similar to brownie batter!

4- Finally, we'll bake it. Place the prepared ramekins on a baking pan and divide the batter between them. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until the edges look solid and firm. The tops will STILL be soft with a slight jiggle in the center.

Tip: When in doubt, it's always best to UNDER-BAKE. Worst case scenario, the lava cake will break when you take it out. Over-baking will just leave you with a solid choco cake.

5- Lasty, serve. You need to allow the lava cakes to cool in the ramekins for about 1 minute, then cover each with an inverted plate and use an oven mitt to flip them over and release the cakes onto the plate. If you try and flip them too hot, they WILL break. Add toppings and serve!

It's important to notice that lava cakes are really delicate and time sensitive. Test your oven heat and your patience with the first batch! Once you've gotten ahold of it, you'll see it's the easiest dessert ever~.

Crystals: they taste good. Especially when used in magic. CRUMCH.

So do rocks. So do minerals. Just so deliciously spiritual. Y'know?

But they don't all taste good on your soul in the same way, because these words don't mean the same thing. GEM and STONE and CRYSTAL aren't synonyms, though their definitions sometimes overlap. In a casual setting it's fine to fart these words around interchangeably. I just wouldn't do it in any serious capacity.

🔮 YO WHY DOES THIS MATTER

To start getting into these lovely crunchy snacks, dear humans, you're going to have to know at least a little of the science. And if you're groaning right now, you're not ready to be a practitioner of any ding-dang metaphysical thing. You have to understand a touch of the natural world before working with it.

For instance: if you need fiery passion in your life, are you going to use something in your spell that comes out of a mollusk (a pearl) or from a volcano (obsidian)? If you need structure, is it better to use an object that's chemically a blobby mess (an opal) or orderly and neat (quartz)?

Unless you have prior associations with these objects, the basic science is all very crucial.

Still, I'm not gonna bore you. Let me just lay on you what you need to know to start with. You can go scurry off and read more as you please.

🔮 WHAT IS A CRYSTAL?

A crystal is a homogeneous solid substance with a repeating symmetrical structure. This structure is called a crystal lattice.

What the hickety heck does that mean? Basically:

A crystal is a solid. OK.

Its internal chemical or molecular structure is homogeneous. All its parts are the same.

Its internal chemical or molecular structure is symmetrical, meaning its parts, on an axis, are the same. Mirrored. Think a butterfly, a snowflake, etc.

Its internal chemical structure also repeats. So you have the same chemicals or molecules repeating.

Its internal chemical structure is called a crystal lattice.

SALT is a crystal. It looks like this, way down on a teeny-weeny level:

🔮 WHAT IS A MINERAL (AND MINERALOID)?

A mineral is a naturally occurring, inorganic crystal. That means that minerals must be formed by nature, from nonliving sources, and exhibit homogeneous compositions and symmetrically repetitive structures.

Let's break this down again.

A mineral is naturally occurring, which means it forms in nature.

But it's also inorganic. Animals don't make them. Plants don't make them. Things that are alive can't make them. It's gotta come from the earth. (Which is alive in a spiritual sense but not in a scientific sense. It's not, like, an organism. You know what I mean?)

They have homogeneous compositions. This means they're made up of the same thing throughout their entire structure.

They also have symmetrically repetitive structures. Their composite parts mirror on an axis, again like a snowflake, and the patterns of their molecules, elements etc repeat.

Labradorite is a mineral. It comes out of igneous (magma-formed) rock and it has a repeating chemical mixture of oxygen, silicon, aluminum, calcium, and sodium.

When a substance meets some, but not all, of the criteria of a mineral...it is called a mineraloid.

If you have yourself a substance that's real close to a MINERAL but doesn't check off all the boxes, it's a mineraloid.

Obsidian is a mineraloid. It comes from lava, so it's non-organic. But its structure is amorphous, meaning it's not arranged in a crystal lattice.

🐻 So: a MINERAL is a CRYSTAL. A MINERALOID is generally not a CRYSTAL.

🔮 WHAT IS A ROCK?

This one's so easy I don't have to pull out a book for it: basically, a ROCK is made up of one or more MINERALS or MINERALOIDS.

Marble is a rock. It's composed of the MINERALS calcite and/or dolomite.

Limestone is a rock. Its parents are (generally) the MINERALS calcite and/or aragonite. I'm sure they're proud.

🔮 WHAT IS A STONE?

Not an official scientific term, as far as I know. This is one that's gonna vary depending on your dialect, your background, etc. I use STONE as a synonym for ROCK, but wouldn't use it for just any old MINERAL or MINERALOID. (Like, a piece of obsidian is not always a STONE to me.)

Your mileage may vary.

🔮 WHAT IS A GEMSTONE?

Also not an official scientific term, as far as I know. Like STONE, this will vary based on your background, dialect, etc. Generally, GEMSTONE refers to any MINERAL, MINERALOID, or ROCK that you humans have used to decorate yourselves over the years. Think jade (ROCK) or ruby (MINERAL) or opals (MINERALOID).

🔮 OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

There's way more scientific rocky rockiness to be talked about. For instance:

The rock cycle (how rocks are formed)

Crystal structures (based on the shape of their lattices)

Color, hardness, etc

...not to mention the METAPHYSICAL properties involved here. But this post is already long and to be honest I'm tired of speaking Human. More later.

“We are supplied,” Rema said as she read over their manifests for the supplies they were loading onto the Wonder. She wore her usual sari, marked with her own stardust, and traces of everyone else’s. Her long hair was held back by Tallulah’s yellow feathers and Yaz’s red gems. “Everything we need to be in he stars for six months or so, which should get us out of the solar system. It’s likely we’ll find the silver-white ships before we do.”

“We are armed,” Greta said next. As always she wore warrior’s braids, and these days wore a blue-shimmering shield and axe across her back, tribute to the legends that answered her call. She was their Sailor, but she was also the fiercest of them and the firm guiding hands on their navigation. She brought heavy, crusty bread and sweet honey wine for those who drank, and rich apple cider for those who didn’t. “The nav-comps are all programmed. We have every chart we could find to load into the Wonder’s computers.”

“We are protected,” Yaz contributed. She handed a plate of dolmas to Li Hua, who took two and passed them along. They were checking the chip, almost ready to fly out, but they were also sharing dinner together. As always, red stardust glimmered off Yaz’s hands and floated to the ship’s hull, an ever-growing layer upon layer for their shields. “The ship’s hull is solid. She’s ready.”

“We are sheltered,” Li Hua said next and traced her fingers over Rema’s sari. Green scales followed her fingertips and marked their Flame with her affection. Rema smiled and returned the favor, adding long swirls of purple to the many ornaments in Li Hua’s hair. Li Hua watched over them all, their Healer who guarded their souls as well as their health. She brought moon cakes, a joke on their current location on Luna Base, but also filled with lotus paste and salted egg yolks. “We are ready for any injuries we might take and to give mercy if mercy is accepted.”

“We are strong,” Thabisa agreed. She had brought fufu to the dinner, and passed around the thick white starch to go with the fiery curry Rema brought. They all laughed and ate gleefully as she taught them how to eat the food of her people. It stayed hot in her lava-orange stardust. “The ship is finished and polished. She’s as ready as she will ever be, and we have supplies if we need to make changes or repairs.”

“We are united,” Cuicatl said, more gentle than the rest of them in the rainbow of her crystal starlight that traced feathers in white light over her shoulders. She smiled when Li Hua determinedly piled food on her plate, and returned fire with the thick mole she brought with her. Li Hua took her share with a laugh. “We are together, Joined and carried by our legends. We are of one mind, and of one song for all our peoples.”

“We are ready,” Tallulah said, the first of them to wake, and the one to set the beat as their Dancer. She was the one who listened to the thunder of drums in her ears and guided them all into the dance of their peoples. She was the one who allowed them to blend the way they did, and find their harmony together. She had brought smoked salmon and clams from her people and shared them about on flatbread. “We have everything we need. I think it’s time we leave Earth.”

For a long while, they were silent as they passed plates and ate together. The flavors of their many cultures blended together in a tapestry as vivid as their starlight that marked the powerful ship around them. It was quiet companionship in the easy light of their magic. The promise not to judge, and to share all they had together. The meal was a good one, but the knowledge that it came from all of them was better.

Food carried culture. There was a reason the Wonder had a robust kitchen and a galley large enough for all of them. The difference between a house and a home was a warm hearth. Theirs would warm them all as they traveled.

“Are we sure we’re prepared for everything they can throw at us?” Thabisa asked, young and unsure, as were all of their four who had yet to face the silver-white ships. It was an unknown enemy, and they were justifiably concerned about the dangers ahead. “They locked us away long ago.”

“They don’t know how much we’ve changed,” great said confidently with Thought and Memory on her shoulders in blue stardust. “They thought our precursors would die on Earth, but we settled it instead and built our legends. Now we come again, more powerful for generations of stories, and our Wonder is armed with all of them, ready to come to our call. Soon there will be more of us, and they do not know how many more.”

“Or how we travel,” Tallulah agreed and shared smiles with her sisters, the brave ladies of legend and light who took to the ship in their beautiful ship. “Our legends will carry us. Now we have only to reach for them when the silver-white ships come. We have taught them once already that this new generation of Starworkers is not like the ones they knew. Now it is time to forge legends of our own and find out what they hid from us when they locked us away.”
