Next King Ending!

That doesn't end in death for everyone involved. James!

You know what that means! Tired, rambling historian voice!

*AHEM*

The Golden Era was an era of many hiccups and controversies but ultimately was the most prosperous era of all the Abyssal Plains. With one major hiccups by the demon only known as the Demon Lord, and a bumpy transition back to normalcy, today we will be talking about the rulers that started the Golden Era's comeback.

That being King Raestrao and Queen Ezaeur. Raestrao is the son of the previous Golden queen Istorae and the Demon Lord. Ezaeur is the daughter of two pure blooded royals of the Lilith king that, due to the carnage and subsequent scrubbing from the history books, we don't know the names of.

Now the immediate assumption is that these two were set up in an arranged marriage and...you'd be like 40% right. They were but then Raestrao along with his brothers would disappear on a ten year excursion thus ending the arranged marriage and probably triggering the massacre of Lilith Kingdom.

Where did Raestrao's brothers go? What happened to the remnant of the rebellion? Why did Raestrao disappear and abandon the marriage only to come back and get married to Ezaeur ten years later? If I even tried to figure those out I would die of lack of energy and coffee overdose. (I'm already tired man... leave me alone)

Aka, we don't know. He just vanishes and the earliest records of his return are ten years later during the war against his father.

Speaking of, how did that end? Another place of murky details! It would have been as straight forward as "Raestrao and Ezaeur killed the Demon Lord and took the throne," if staff didn't find feathers at the scene. Angels were involved but it's completely unknown on how. There is also evidence that the disappearance and supposed death of Istorae was caused by angels as well so there's that. Other than that, we know nothing.

Now that the Golden Kingdom has been restored, how have the two rulers faired. Not great! The most stable part of their rule were their laws and attempts to rebuild. Raestrao and Ezaeur were clearly very intelligent being that they manage to start a new set of laws, repair their kingdoms far past their previous glory and even improved agriculture by using methods only seen in the human world and combining them with magic for maximum efficiency. As law makers, they were beloved by all.

As rulers... we get a little worse. Reports of madness yellow imply that both rulers suffered from it and that would explain the higher amount of executions than previous generations -minus the Demon Lord-. The best way to describe the pair as rulers are ruthless, especially to whatever people they didn't originally belong to. Aka if someone of the Lilith kingdom pissed them off, they were better off pleading their case to Ezaeur as Raestrao would show no mercy and vice versa.

Then there was them as a couple. Dysfunctional as HELL. There are no reports or paintings of those two being happy together. In fact, on more than one occasion, a fight between the two rulers had to be quelled to keep it from getting physical. They also slept in separate rooms on the opposite sides of the castle. That was damn near unheard of! Even Istorae and the Demon Lord shared a room! All of this plus the existence of a harem girl and the rumored relationship between the Queen and her bodyguard are proof enough that those two clearly did not like each other and there was no sense of loyalty in their relationship.

It's strictly business.

Speaking of the harem girl! This human's name is a little unclear. Some records would say it's "Mika" though the most common thing she was called was "Human" and the most common nickname she was given was either "Aphrodite" (The human, greek goddess of love and beauty) or "Ambrosia" (Another human, greek name meaning "drink from the gods"). For the sake of giving her a name, we'll call her "Ambrosia" as that name was the most popular. Unlike many concubines before her, we actually have VERY clear records of her existence! Yay! My job is easier for once! This is the girl you would look to if you wanted to see any semblance of happiness out of the king, though she may have not been as happy to be there. She's a human girl a few years younger than the king and the two most likely met during Raestrao's disappearance as Ambrosia starts popping up in the records during the war like Raestrao.

Now easier doesn't mean easy, there still a lot of questions about how exactly she made it to the demon world, why she was involved in the war and what made her stay after the war -if she was even given a choice, which was unlikely seeing the chains often depicted on her wrists and ankles.

She was clearly a prisoner in the castle and there to serve Raestrao personally but she seemed to be treated better than most harem girls. (Side note- Yes I'm going to say that with every version of Mika in these endings. The boys aren't abusing her like the Demon Lord abused Omaizel) Often her main outfits were compared to the ones the previous queen, Istorae, would wear and this seems to be no accident as she was also provided Istorae's scarf-thing. This was probably to give her an air of royalty and be a subtle reminder that she was to be treated like how you were to treat a queen.

Another interesting figure would be the Queen's knight, Saero. Surprisingly, there's less information about him than there is about the human that appeared randomly 100 years after him. He was a servant of the Lilith kingdom and specifically Ezaeur since he was young. Even after the kingdom burnt down, he stayed loyal to his mistress and followed her even to this new kingdom. There's supporting evidence that, like the harem girl and the king, there might have been a sexual relationship going on between the Queen and her guard especially since he seemed to be the only one that she ever confides in.

Now, what about heirs? There was at least one! Though might have been two? Okay let me explain. There were at least four children that were the daughters and sons of Raestrao or Ezaeur. However, there is only one that is confirmed to be the daughter of Raestrao and Ezaeur. That would be the heir and eventual next Queen of the golden kingdom. There were also three others of dubious origins. From the taint we can assume that the firstborne son and youngest daughter were Raestrao's children and the secondborne son (aka the middle child) was Ezaeur's child.

The two sons were eventually confirmed to not have been the children of both rulers with the firstborne being most liking Ambrosia's child and the second son being most likely Saero's child. The last child, however, is unknown. She takes most of her appearance from her father so it's hard to tell who the mother of said child is. On top of that, there are multiple paintings that depict Raestrao having a much warmer relationship with his youngest daughter than either of his confirmed child. Yes, including the heir. And we're not completely sure on why. The only theory that's stuck is that the youngest (possibly illegitimate) daughter acted very similar to someone Raestrao cared about, sweet and curious, unlike his eldest son who's far more abrasive in personality and his eldest daughter who was more cold and calculated.

In the end, when the kids came of age; Raestrao's eldest son, similarly to his father, disappeared for a few years before popping up again and settling in a small town. The eldest daughter and heir took the throne and ruled with a similar about of intelligence and coldness as her parents. And Ezaeur's eldest son and Raestrao's (and possibly Ezaeur's?) youngest daughter became nobles for different kingdoms (Despite at least Ezaeur's son being a bastard child) and would marry their rulers and spread the golden reign.

revolving around his connection to the demon world and how important a soul bond is to him is actually way more indepth than it fucking seems because here's this badass guy who so deeply wants to show his love to his partner in a way that's special to them and himself, always knowing where they are, if they're okay, etc. And getting ready for the war against HIS FATHER, his hatred boiling up, Saero constantly poking at him trying to get a reaction, which he will ALWAYS get. Just GRA!!! I will start talking about the most interesting shit to me, I don't care if you're not interested, because I could not fucking care less about football.

It was over. They had won.

Ezaeur almost cannot believe it. Years of this war, over at last. The demon lord was dead. Her parents, her sister, and thousands of other victims have been avenged. She may never know the extent of her parents schemes, their secrets dying with them. And she cannot change any of her mistakes. But even if she stumbled along the path, it had still ended here. In joyous victory.

She had stolen away with the odd little human, to thank her for her aid and grant her upcoming (delayed) nuptials a blessing. She returns to the banquet hall ahead of Ezaeur, the Flower of Lilith's crown decorating her hair beautifully. She rushes into the arms of her betrothed, not sparing Ezaeur a second glance. Good. She deserved to celebrate with the one she loved most.

As if hearing her thoughts, the one the rebel queen herself loved most decided to speak up.

She loves him. By the seven hells and all five worlds, does she love him. And the golden rose proving the sincerity and depth of their shared affection gleams in the light, clutched in her beloved Saero's hand. Still, she had known this man since childhood and victory was only lightening Ezaeur's mood. She had been so serious, so worried, for far too long. She deserved a little levity.

"And what gives you permission to speak so casually with me?" she teases, stepping closer. She plucks the golden rose from Saero's grasp and moves to tuck it behind her ear. It's no Flower of Lilith but Ezaeur would have no other bloom decorate her, tonight of all nights. "You DO realize you speak now to the new queen of the Abyssal Plains?"

He does. Of course he does. Ironically, it's Ezaeur who almost can't believe it. What she can believe, after so, so long denying the truth, is that Saero is real and here and in love with her. She sets her hand on his shoulder, slotting her other hand into his. A perfect fit.

"Perhaps, for your boldness, I'll indulge you with a dance." A tease. Saero has claimed possession of this dance and all others, and they both know it.

hmm nienor’s amnesia as a parallel to the false freedom of captives allowed to walk out of angband... by letting her forget, glaurung temporarily severed her ties to her cursed family— but it’s no liberation, just a step towards a more horrific re-tying of her familial ties.

this is something that really interests me in CoH because the bad things that happen are showing how morgoth sees the world, right? the special curse in answer to hurin’s profession of faith is that this one family WILL enact morgoth’s vision of them. like when eru 3d painted the song of the ainur but worse and only one nuclear family. i digress. but i mean, often it’s as if you could imagine the demonic gaze fade in over the scene playing: saeros unknowingly quotes morgoth’s opinion on human women; turin punishes saeros in a morgoth-approved way (it’s 3am im not opening the can of worms that is the “orc-work/play” thing). it’s tolkien at his most catholic.

so like here’s this heroic pagan tragedy a la tolkien, and of course it isn’t meant to be a reconstruction, he intends to climb it to look out upon the sea. (hurin receives a catholic spoiler to throw in morgoth’s face, tuor is there in the origo as a literal easter egg). also, and this is my entire point im trying to talk about, it’s incredibly good family horror too! especially when it comes to the women who can’t do anything else besides bearing the curse. morwen doesn’t even meet glaurung. nobody thinks she needs to. nobody thinks glaurung needs to. she is the mother of the children of hurin and he is the father of dragons and idk maybe nienor and her unknowing is sort of an insulator between them. and what’s interesting to me is that tolkien is so brilliant at painting the inherent and inescapable horror of family, but clearly intends it to be viewed in the context that the horror isn’t inherent, because, again, catholic. if it seems bad then you are looking at it through morgoth’s eyes, or looking at one that was marred by morgoth! and nienor was not in the grave, because the water never gave her body back. but nienor’s name was on the grave, because the ones who buried her brother carved it there, and because the sea wouldn’t touch tol morwen

• Sam takes his drumsticks with him everywhere. He has multiple and even a lucky pair

• The boys started out at bars and small clubs and just where ever they could get a gig. They also done some shows for charity

• Harold discovered them and let them join his record company

• Mika wanted to be a singer but was supposed to take over her dad for the company and she "couldn't do both"

• Diana met up with Harold before about a job at his company but before papers could be finalised, he passed away

• Damien doesn't want to show his song as he's "still working on it" but if you were listening at the right time, you can hear him humming it, trying to work out a melody and lyrics

• Erik, Mika & Matthew are shower singers (both in the AU and cannon)

• The boys learned how to play Mikas favourite song as a surprise for her birthday

• Mika helps them out with Social Media management

Purple

The constant reminder of my status etched into my skin as I pass by. The way the markings have covered me from head to toe of that wretched color. No, no I shouldn’t say that, I sound ungrateful. I know how many yearn to be in my position, to be of my status as well as how many loathe my very existence, envy the power I hold. They would do anything to be where I am. But my position is a birthright. The royal purple tainting my very body says so. Purple, the color of royalty, mystery, magic, rarity. I am a rarity, I am considered to be a luxury among nobility, among royalty. I am the very thing that shall lead my people, that shall protect them cause that is my birthright! But that also comes with…uncertainty. Yes, I know that the price of me is far greater than anyone could imagine, my power, my status, but what would happen if I were to say that I don’t want it. Silly me, I know what would happen, it would not change a single thing. I was bred for this, my very existence was made for this. I was molded into the perfect heir, the perfect princess, shaped by the hands of my parents, my tutors. But I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t ask for any of this. It was all brought onto me because of these markings! Be calm Ezeaur. There is no need to lash out, lashing out will fix nothing. You are powerful but your emotions make you weak! Your emotions for him make you weak.

A cruel thing it is, to be wed off to a man that you don’t know, all for the safety of this kingdom. It is my duty to protect it so if I have to marry the son of the most hated being in the abyssal plains then I’ll do it! But..there are times where I wish I was not bound by duty, where I was not bound by the purple markings on my skin. Why? Why am I suddenly questioning everything now? There’s no point in it, what’s done is done, I can not change a thing, even if I wanted to. This is the burden I must bear, for these purple marks and these purple horns are a testament of such. I can’t change my fate, I can’t change what I was made for, so I must fight to keep it that way. Even if it goes against my own wants, for what I want was never of concern, it doesn’t matter what I want. But that's not fair, none of it is! How come he can go and run! How come he isn't tied to duty! How come none of them are! Ignorant, selfish, entitled, that's what they are! The mere privilege they have to just run! While I'm stuck here, chained to my duty, chained to them because I happen to be of pure blood! Because I'm the one that bears the purple tainted skin, not them! I just hope…that Saero forgives me, I'll be back home soon. I take a deep breath in.

Ps:Okay so I don't know what compelled me to write this but I'm glad I did honestly. I wanted to write a little something for Diana since I've most recently been reading "The Spirit Bares It's Teeth" (Which is a really good read by the way, highly recommended) and it inspired me to write this. I wanted to get more into Diana and her resentment to not only the boys but also her role as a pure bred demon of Lilith as a whole. I think I did a fairly good job.

Summery: I was cursed by the Demon Lord. But I will protect that child with my life.

Author’s Note: This is based on a dream I had last night! It was really cute and I had to write something!

I was once royalty. A princess of a small kingdom, bound to take over the land once I'd married and become a queen. Despite my lifestyle, I was brought up as a kind, gentle princess, caring for the land and its inhabitants. I grew up with the mindset that all were equal, and with a compassionate heart.

Of course, they don't know that. Being trapped in the body of a mutt prevents one from speaking their mind without some special spell. They only knew me as a dog that stuck around like a guard protecting his lady. I trusted them, they saved my life.

When my parents refused to submit to the Demon Lord, they were killed without a second thought. I tried to fight back, avenge my parents. Of course, I wasn't the most powerful demon in the world, and didn't get much of a chance to do much.

Instead of killing me outright, he thought it fitting to torture me. He sealed me inside the body of some dog his Imps found while in the human world. It was a mangy wolf, ridden with fleas and ticks, weakened from starvation.

He kept me in a small cage beside the throne, as entertainment for himself and his guests. A year of that life. It was humiliating. I was fed rarely; once a week, if he was feeling generous. Which wasn't often. I would get a tiny bowl of scraps; it was hardly a mouthful. Most of it was rotted and festered, and I'm sure it was laced with poison sometimes.

It wasn't until they came in for an attack. They saw me, and took pity on me. Soldiers, presumably working for the rebellion, cleared out the room I was kept in. They opened the cage and let me out, and brought me to the leaders of the rebellion. They saw into my soul, seeing that I was, in fact, a demon. None of them knew how to break the curse; it was one they'd never seen before, and they didn't know how to approach it. They were afraid they'd hurt me.

So I stuck around. The succubus, Ezaeur, found my company enjoyable. She spoke to me as if I was a normal demon, not trapped in this stupid mutt body. The other demon, Saero, however, was a little suspicious of me. A demon trapped in an animal body? It seemed... off. Despite his suspicions, he allowed me to remain. If Ezaeur trusted me, he would as well.

Ezaeur carefully bathed me, using some form of magic to rid me of the fleas and ticks. It also helped my fur grow back. They kept me well-fed. I was fed a healthy diet of meat and vegetables. They knew the basics of taking care of a pet, it seemed. They treated me not like a mutt, but like I was a normal demon.

Something changed about a year into my residency in Lilith Castle, though. Of course, I wasn't stupid; it wasn't hard to tell she was pregnant. After that, I became more attached to her. I followed her practically everywhere. I became more protective, baring my teeth at anyone that approached her that I didn't recognized.

I was never allowed to bear children of my own; although I had planned to once I married. I was robbed of that ability, and I was overcome with an urge to protect. I often pressed my nose to her stomach, letting the unborn child know of my presence.

Saero was angry with me at first, worried I'd turn on them and attack. I couldn't blame him, after what happened to Ezaeur's parents and her unborn sister. At first he tried to pry me away, yelling at me and threatening me with his spear. But she knew I wouldn't hurt her. She knew I only wanted to protect her and the unborn child.

She grew bigger by the day, and I continued to hang around her. When the child began to move, it responded to my nose touches. It would wiggle around until it was up against my nose and then it would calm.

I couldn't stop pacing. I knew she was in labor. I was agitated; they wouldn't let me be by her side. I repeatedly strode to the door and snarled at the guards, yet they refused to let me in. I whined and pawed at the floor before resuming my circle of nervous pacing.

Hours passed. I could hear her, she was in pain. I <b>needed</b> to be there. I growled at the guards once again. They still refused to let me in. I turned and bolted head-first into the door, ignoring the shouts of the guards. It wasn't hard to find her; her scent was strong. Her cries stopped, but I continued to follow the scent trail. I burst through the door that lead to her.

I stopped. There she was, sitting up in a bed. She looked exhausted and tired, sweat slowly making its way down the side of her face. She looked up in slight surprise, but her expression slowly morphing into one of joy.

"Come here," she said quietly. Her voice was hoarse and strained; she struggled to be loud enough for me to hear. Saero looked at me, giving a subtle nod. His grin stretched ear-to-ear, tears bubbling in the corners of his eyes, threatening to spill over.

Slowly I padded over, cautiously lifting my muzzle up to her. Very gingerly she moved so that her new child was visible to me. The small girl was sleeping peacefully. My chest burned with happiness as I watched the small child. I lifted my nose, carefully pressing it to the girl's arm.

Her reaction was immediate; she squirmed closer to me, pressing against my muzzle. I froze, holding my breath and not daring to move. She remembered me. The gesture filled me with a strong, passionate fondness.

At that moment, I felt something in me change. I felt A strong urge to protect the infant. I gently gave her arm a lick. And another. And another. Ezaeur let out a soft, tired laugh as the child stirred and let out a whine as my tongue covered the tiny arm. My tail wagged furiously.

I will be her guardian, and I will give her my life. Even trapped in this mutt body, I will not leave her side, no matter what.

I will be this child’s protector.

like, for example, if someone was flirting with mika in damien’s presence, fanon damien would probably roll over and cry and look at mika like

meanwhile canon damien is that one video on tiktok where he’s like-

“jeff, he just gave me a compliment. you’re really gonna beat the kid up because he gave me a compliment, jeff?”

yall really overlook how unhinged he can be in favor of making his trauma his personality, which is a damn shame.

Seduce Me Situations!

Nicknames! What would Mika call her potential love interest and what would they call her as nicknames?

James- "James" is a short enough name to not really need a nickname, though Mika does call him "Jay" every once in a while. If they're dating then Mika's preferred pet name for James is "Sunrise" or "My bookworm", one is referring to his preferred color and the other his nerd-like tendencies. She's probably called him "Nerd" before too. James doesn't really give Mika a nickname until they're dating, then she's "Love". I can also see him call her "Doll". He probably would have called her something sun related if she didn't get to it first.

Erik- "Erik" is even shorter of a name but Mika still managed to shorten it to "Eri". She also calls him "My liege" whenever she wants to teasingly match Erik's flirtatious energy. If they're dating, Mika probably goes down the cheesy pet names like "Dear", "Love" "Darling", "Sweetheart", etc. Though a unique name that Erik loves to be called is "Orchid", Mika called him that as Erik's eye and hair reminded her of the orchids she would usually see. Erik, of course, calls Mika "Princess" (or "Highness" in the Harem route) and that's basically her name now. There is no Mika, only Princess.

Sam- There is no shortening "Sam"; Sam is usually the shortened name. Instead, Mika calls Sam just "Sam" for the most part. Though, she might playfully sneak in a "Jerk" sometimes. After they start dating, the nickname "Jerk" becomes almost as common as Sam's "Doofus" nickname for Mika. Also "Babe" I can see Mika calling Sam Babe. I don't see Sam being much a nickname person. Though something Mika will never call Sam is anything monster related. That is a nickname no-no.

Matthew- Finally! A name that doesn't need a stretch to shorten it! "Matt" or "Matty"! Probably Matty, Matty is cuter. At first, Matthew was a little embarrassed by the nickname "Matty" but he learned to like it. After they're dating, I can see "Blue Jay" being a sweet nickname, especially since Matthew can canonically summon birds. I can definitely see Matthew calling Mika "Miki" before they're dating, especially when the "Matty" nickname started. After they start dating, I can see Matthew occasionally calling Mika "Kitten". Why? ...All I'm gunna say is that if you know Matthew's wiki page, you know why. A little bonus, they absolutely use some of the most cringy, old people pet names in a joking/teasing manner.

Damien- Okay... hear me out. "Damin". That's a weird ass shortening but it's an inside joke. Another would be "Carrot" especially when they're first getting to know each other. After they start dating, I feel like the default nickname for Damien would be "Sweetie" or "Hunny". It's just so classic romance and they fit that. As for nicknames Damien would call Mika, again the classics. "Sweetie", "Hunny", etc. An interesting one would be "Usagi" or "Usa". Usagi is the Japanese word for Bunny/Rabbit and Damien's second language is Japanese so I think it fits.

Diana- There's a canon one! Di! (Which unfortunately fits most of her endings) But others that Mika would come up with would be "Dia" (Also a little inside joke) and "Ana". After they start dating, I can see Mika and Saero scheming nicknames togethers but they can never really agree on a lot of them as Mika uses the name Diana and Saero uses the name Ezaeur. One they did agree on was "Lily" as a nod to Diana's ancestor. As for what Diana would call Mika back, she already uses "Dear" a lot. She might add "Darling" in a few times too.
