I hope it's not to late to ask some of the Romance Asks! I'd love to know 2, 12, 15, and 31 for Tysinno, please! Feel free to only do some if four it too much <3
absolutely not too late to ask, and thank you very much! I'm always happy to have an excuse to talk about Tysinno, and Tysinno/Ayla 🥰🖤
2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?
the first minute he saw Ayla Aescar. love at first sight, y'all
jk nah. Tysinno knew he had feelings for her for a while, and was interested pretty early on (as early as Capra, after fighting Quiial.) but as of my typing this right now, I'm thinking he doesn't realize "oh, I'm in love with her" until a more mundane moment at the compound when they're spending time together. I have this headcanon that Ayla occasionally uses wind magic to mess with Tysinno when he's sparring or practicing something, like... using the wind to send a practice bullet straight into the ground instead of a target, lol, or pushing a dummy back when he's trying melee stuff. one such occasion, he rolls his eyes and jokingly glares as usual while she's snickering at him, and that's when he knows that he loves her.
(that said, I reserve the right to change my mind on The Moment (tm) as more of Ayla's days off come out! my answer might be different next year :D)
12. Do they have similar goals? If they clash, how do they deal?
I don't think they clash all that often, in terms of goals? they're both very similar people: they both want a community and a family, they're both wanderers who want to see more of the world, they both just generally want this feeling of peace, security, and understanding. they just get each other, so I feel like they're going to want the same things as a couple. stay with the Shepherds, travel the world, start a family at some point. I'm sure that they will clash on something there at some point, but I'm not entirely sure what?
maaaaybe on how many cats Tysinno can have, lol. I think he'd gladly take in every single cat he could if Ayla didn't put her foot down or set a limit or something.
15. Does their view of themselves differ from their partner’s view?
oh, absolutely. :') Tysinno doesn't have the best view of himself; he's struggled with self-loathing over what happened to Maj for the longest time, and he's really only just starting to cope with it as of chapter eight. he sees himself as a bad luck charm, and believes deep down that people are better off without him around. it's why he wandered for so long, and also why he left the Circle without giving his best friend Red a goodbye.
Ayla sees him differently, of course, as do I! Tysinno is aloof at first, but he's incredibly warm and sweet once you become friends, and will yell at gargoyles for you. he's got a dry wit that isn't nearly as overt as Chase's jokes, but still makes you laugh (especially if you have a morbid sense of humor.) he's a gifted artist and writer, he's compassionate and caring, he's just a lot better than he initially gives himself credit for at the start of SHOH. Ayla sees all of that in him, and I imagine that while she does understand why he feels the way he does about himself, she still challenges it and dares him to see the good in himself. which he does to her as well. :)
31. Share anything you would like about the couple!
Tysinno's working on learning Gangara in his spare time! he wants to be able to surprise Ayla by being able to speak to her in her first language.
in RPG terms, I like to think of them as a healer/tank couple.
this scene always makes me laugh, and was just one of many 😳😏 moments from Tysinno lol

Came from shepherds blog to say your mc lark lore is soo good i love her omg?? And how gagged i am by the fact you came up with the idea of another oc that shares words of power wow .... mind elaborating on ur hc for if they share them, have them individually, more how they met etc? : )
AHHH NONNIE U HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME <3 tysm........i'm so glad you love my special girl....
also the second OC isn't mine!! Qilan belongs to @yuechicake and we come up with their intertwined story together!!! We don't usually go for the same love interests in otome games/VNs/IFs so we find it fun to pretend whatever MCs we create are in the same universe and of course they're besties and lovers and everything in between
BUT for Qilan and Lark specifically, I would LOVE to give you a run down! This is your warning for slight alpha spoilers (although i'm like 99% positive most of it is stuff that's already on the blog through asks and such.)
So basically, their story plays off of the original MC's story in SHOH. Qilan and Lark were made from a final burst of power of the god to increase the likelihood that somebody would be able to save the world from the invasion of Hael. After all, what's better than one hero of Haven? TWO Heros of Haven! They're soulmates, literally and figuratively. Literally one soul cleaved in half with a girl built around each piece. Each other's better (and worse) half. We've come up with a lot of symbolism for them, actually: Lark the sacrificial lamb and Qilan the sacrificing priest; Qilan the sword and Lark the shield; Qilan the hero and Lark the spare. They both are incredibly special and important to the other, but Qilan has survival hardwired into her brain and Lark has it in her head that she's destined to die before the war is over. They play off of each other really well ^u^
We haven't come to a strict number on how many words Qilan and Lark have, but in my head I gave them a singular extra one so that they could both have the canon backstory and use one on their birthday and still start off in the Shepherds with seven. Other than that, they just kinda have to hope they're on the same page about using them lol. And, in true magical girl style, their Words are more powerful when said in unison or when cast when the girls are touching each other. Imagine being a demon and two of the prettiest girls you've ever seen fucken GET YOU with a friendship beam. Embarrassing 😳
The general rule for what counts is, as long as it's cast at the same time / they decide in unison / they're physically touching when they do it AND it's directed towards the same creature or purpose, it counts as a single Word and is more powerful than if they cast one by themselves. (Generally it is more labor intensive to do this though!) Otherwise, if they use it without knowing the other one is using one / not intending to be doing it in tandem, then the Words are counted separately. Qilan and Lark don't have any rules for the other about using them if one is absent. They trust each other's judgement! If Lark used a word while Qilan was still at base, Qilan wouldn't be mad and would just be glad Lark got back safe (and it would be the same if the roles were switched). They can tell when the other uses a word, like a voice whispers the new count in their head or something.
Also, Qilan's R/O is Chase and Lark's is Trouble, but they're all in a nebulous polycule, the true dynamic of which some of the Shepherds take bets on. (Simplified, Lark and Trouble are a straightforward couple, Qilan and Chase are unspoken forever partners, Lark and Qilan are two halves of the same soul that kiss sometimes, Chase and Trouble are boyfriends in law, and Chase to Lark/Trouble to Qilan are usually “that's my special girl's special boy” and vice versa)
Liya and I haven't set up a 100% true meeting for Qilan and Lark, but in general our current theory goes like this: prior to the job of escorting Prihine, Lark and Qilan were assigned to the same caravan on separate mercenary jobs. Diminished typically are cast to the side during meals and stops, so the two of them wound up near each other inevitably over their own meager fire. At this point in their story, both of them are incredibly guarded. Qilan doesn't let anyone in and charms others before a true conversation can ever really start, and Lark keeps up a distant, polite front without ever reading further into conversations. But they both feel this pull with the other, a sense of comfort and familiarity that they've never had before. They bond, and it all feels natural…a relationship that might not have disastrous consequences.
(Also, if you look at Liya's blog, you'll see that Qilan is in tune with her sexuality and a lot of times her character is a fun push and pull of power and vulnerability, lust and devotion, etc etc. And since Lark often times occupies the end of the spectrum that is opposed to Qilan......Qilan and Lark definitely banged during the caravan is what I'm saying. Both as a way to demonstrate their closeness and also it's a big deal for Lark to feel that level of comfort so quickly. And also they're literally soulmates and hot of course they're going to)
Anyway, as I mentioned, since their souls are literally mirrored halves, they just kind of....naturally click? Neither of them can explain it, and it's actually incredibly out of character for them to feel so connected to someone at all, let alone so quickly. So they would keep tabs on each other regardless, knowing that this was a soft spot they didn't know how to protect. Luckily they happened to like each other when they met ^u^
When they have to part ways they do so willingly - there isn't a tearful goodbye or anything, because even though they are bonded they aren't quite attached yet - but there still is a secret lingering knowledge that they are connected. That they'll find each other again and again, and now they know who to look for.
Qilan and Lark are pretty comfortable with each other by the time they are both enrolled in the Order, however. They just gravitate towards each other: sitting together during meals, spending time off together, training together, and they probably try to figure out just how connected they are! Soon enough they're inseparable and the Order knows that where one goes, the other will probably be close behind. Even when things get more serious with their R/Os, it's an unspoken rule that they're a package deal lol
And as far as missions go, there isn't really a “canon” for who goes on what mission, it just kinda depends on what we want to write (or what's funniest). For some missions like the investigation into Black Sun, it's easy to imagine they're both on that mission but they took different routes. Maybe Qilan chases after Chase and Lark goes to tell Blade what happened. They would choose together if they went to investigate the factory or the party, but if they choose the factory then Qilan would go with Chase and Lark with Blade and Trouble. Just little things that don't matter much, and it can change on a moment's notice to serve our needs!
Everything else is a vibes based decision! Liya and I have been friends for a while and we know how the other typically likes to write their OCs, plus as friends even if the other does write something OOC it's either a new character trait to consider or the OC just had a “do it for the vine” moment and it works for the fic so it's fine lmao. This is an AU after all and we are both focused more on character-driven oneshots than actually making their placement make sense within the whole story of SHOH. Most of the time we can just pretend they're on the same mission but doing different tasks if we need the girls to be alone with their R/O or something lol
Buuuut yeah!! The tl;dr is that they are soulmates who understand each other on a deeper level than anyone else. They are both parallels and foils. And they should NOT be separated or Blest WILL get blown to pieces.

💥, 😨, 🍧, 🎭, and 🔪 for Thorne sdjfgksg or whichever of those you want bc I recognize that that's quite a few lol. I just think he's neat
ASK GAME: THORNE BRIERS | SHEPHERDS OF HAVEN | OMNI
SDJDG Thank you so much for sending an ask!! And it's not a problem at all — I love writing about my OCs!!! No matter how much you send, I'll be over the moon. Thank you so much for liking Thorne, that makes me very happy!! 🥹🥹💐💐
As usual, I'll be answering in the context of the SHOH universe! Ah, here's the LINK to the ask game, for anyone who wants to do it!
Edit: Okay, this became. Long. Ridiculously long. I considered splitting the ask up, but I'm not sure how that would work. Will probably do it in the future, though!
MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE ALPHA BUILD BELOW!!
😨 — when scared, do they go into "flight" or "fight"?
Flight! Thorne's not very big on the whole 'go out in a blaze of glory' thing — he'd much rather slip away from the enemy's grasp and live to fight another day.
Actually — and this is a bit off topic — he's not a very big fan of the whole 'self sacrificing' routine that a lot of the Shepherds seem to have going on. Scratch that, he hates it. Everytime Trouble or Blade or any of the Shepherds say something along the lines of sacrificing themselves to save innocents, his eye practically starts twitching in irritation. 🗿
He'd much rather that they all stayed alive, thank you very much. He refuses to tolerate any other outcome. Now that I think about it, it's a bit funny — he'd joined the Shepherds only as a means of self-preservation. He was so sure that he'd fade into the background soon enough, that the Shepherds would just be another odd chapter in his life.
Now he spends most of his time running himself ragged for the order and (secretly) worrying about his more self-sacrificial comrades' survival. Oh, he also spends a good chunk of his time worrying about Caine. His ass was not expecting to be a sort-of-guardian for a twelve year old, but here they are. Ah, how the turns have tabled.
Blade, Dead Serious: Are you willing to bleed for the order? To die for the order? That's what we demand from all our recruits. Thorne, voice floating from another room: It would also be ideal if you, you know. Didn't die. Less paperwork that way.
🎭 — Do they act differently around certain people? What's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?
Oh, boy. Given the fact that his entire surface demeanor revolves around concealing his true thoughts and emotions from others, I would have to say... yes.
HOW HE ACTS AROUND STRANGERS/FRIENDLY ACQUAINTANCES:
Around strangers or friendly acquaintances, Thorne's guard is always up. His charming veneer never wavers, cloaking him like a second skin — he smiles at the right time, laughs at the right occasion, and frowns at the right moment. Everything he does is a calculated mix of genuine and deliberate, engineered to make him come off as a smooth mix of charming, elusive, and trustworthy — elusive enough to make people think of him as mysterious, but pleasant enough to make people trust him.
He doesn't lie outright, however. Not if he can help it. Lies are tricky, and can leave too many threads to pull and unravel. Instead, he deals in half-truths: little bits of truth about himself that he can sacrifice to the masses, all while keeping the ones that he'd rather hide safely concealed behind his smile.
Strangers know him as the dark-haired mage who carries himself with an air of casual elegance, who possesses storm gray eyes that gleam with an intelligent and elusive light.
Others would say that he's a smooth-talking sod who knows more than he lets on.
Others still would call him a smart bastard who's absolutely ruthless in a fight.
Ah, well. Depends on who you listen to.
HOW HE ACTS AROUND FRIENDS/FAMILY:
Around friends or family — and let's face it, those two words are practically synonymous in this case — Thorne is a lot more expressive and reactive.
While it took him a long, long time to get to his point, Thorne begins to drop the calculated front when around the Shepherds. He becomes a lot more... relaxed, and as a result, a trace of his true personality comes out — though sometimes even Thorne isn't sure what that is.
He becomes a lot more mischievous, bouncing off of Chase and Trouble's antics by spearing them with the occasional dry comment or good natured jab. He also frequently comes to Blade, Red, and Halek's defense(?) by playfully coming up to bat with his arsenal of deceptively innocent quips whenever the others are dogpiling them, prompting Ayla to jokingly complain that he was a "bloody suck-up": an accusation to which Thorne responded with a look of mock-offense and a lofty, "I haven't the faintest idea of what you mean."
His terrible sense of humor also comes out in full force. Even the stupidest and flattest of jokes can coax a snort of laughter from him. He's a big fan of Riel's sarcasm, often snorting in amusement — eyes sparkling with poorly concealed laughter — whenever the other lets loose of yet another dry quip.
Overall, he's very different from how he was when he first joined the Order. When he first joined the order, he had treated them as he would any other stranger: charming, but distant, with the distinct air of someone who was sure to leave in the future. Now, he couldn't be any more different.
Trouble had once remarked on his change. He had ruffled Thorne's hair, ignoring his dismayed squawks, while thoughtfully commenting on how different he was compared to when they first met him.
"Oh?" Thorne had responded dryly, disgruntledly attempting to fix his ruffled dark hair. "What was I like when we first met, then?"
"Sort of closed off, even though you smiled a lot," Trouble had said thoughtfully. "Like one of those nobles. And you always kept your distance — almost like you were going to disappear any second."
Thorne had paused. It had felt odd, hearing this from Trouble. He hadn't known how to react. "... And now?"
Trouble had grinned, then, eyes warm and affectionate. He clapped Thorne on the back and slung a familiar arm around his shoulders. "Well, now you're stuck with us, of course!"
Thorne had let out a breath at that, rolling his eyes. There was a pause, the two of them blanketed in comfortable silence, before a quiet voice spoke tentatively into the air:
"Yes, I am."
🔪 — How do they react to injury / misfortune befalling their loved ones (significant other, family, friends)? Do they put themselves at blame?
Now... here's the thing. The more Thorne cares about someone, the more emotional he can get. The more he cares about someone, the less all the other things — logic, pragmatism, himself — matter to him. He's very much the type to love slower but harder. I genuinely think that life threatening injury befalling his loved ones would make him completely fling all his caution and inhibitions to the wind.
He'd be rushing to their side in a heartbeat. If they were on a battlefield, he'd be fighting his way to their side like an animal gone feral: all gnashing power and glinting arrows and a desperate need to get to their side, get to their side, before it's too late. Thorne knows how swiftly a person's life can be snuffed out; how one wound, one blow, can so easily drag them to a realm that no living being can ever hope to reach. He has to get to them. He has to.
His magic would probably start running rampant, responding to the cold spikes of fear cutting through his chest, to the ringing screaming in his ears. Rationally, he knows that he should conserve his magic and energy — that he shouldn't be so reckless, so careless, so impulsive — but all that would be drowned out by his urgent need to get to their side.
Ultimately, I think he'd either reach their side and haul them off to safety while debating between trying to heal them now or scrambling to a Healer (he's not the best healer), or someone else would step in and snap him out of it. If someone like Red (since he can translocate) told him to stay behind while they got the injured loved one to safety, Thorne would probably gnash his teeth but ultimately, stay and absolutely tear into the enemy. The moment the battle was over he'd be rushing off to go check on the loved one.
Once he sees them, alive and— well. Not well, but not dead, at least — he'll probably start crying. Tears run down his cheeks while he desperately tries to stifle his sobs, but it seems like the inhuman control he typically has over his emotions has fucked off to nowhere and he just keeps bawling his eyes out like an utter fool. Someone, either the poor injured loved one, (who now has a Mr. Thorne Briers bawling over their bed), or a trusted friend tries to comfort him, and he stiffens up so much that they fear he'll break. But then he grasps onto them like a lifeline, (or ever so gently, featherlight, if they were the injured loved one), and starts sniffling out a bunch of incomprehensible reassurances and apologies as he forcibly tries to calm himself. (It doesn't work).
He'll probably be extra clingy in the coming days, like a cat wandering around their favorite person. He won't come too close out of fear of smothering them (he probably still is) but he'll repeatedly attempt to ✨discreetly✨ poke his head into the infirmary to check on how they're doing and reassure himself that they'll be fine. If he's close enough to this particular loved one and feels secure enough to do so, he'll probably insist on doing his paperwork near them. The poor healers will probably have to shoo him out with a broom at one point.
Eventually, he'll start to relax and lay off on the clinginess, but — I think he'll be a lot more... forward with his affection than he was before. His masks and pretenses are still there — I don't think they'll go that easily — but they're a lot more transparent, and more easy to see through. For his loved ones, anyway.
Ah. This got long. I'm sorry, I think I just really like the drama 😔
💥 — What emotions do they have trouble dealing with?
Thorne... can be frustratingly complicated when it comes to dealing with emotion. He does a lot of mental gymnastics and unnecessary entangling when it comes to... how he perceives himself, and it can be a headache trying to follow him. Ironic, how someone so determined to never lose his composure is actually an absolute trainwreck. Still, I'll do my best to answer!
(Ah, and a reminder that Thorne's thoughts and opinions do not necessarily align with my own, and that they're not always, well... right.)
Thorne is the type to feel with everything in him — and it's a part of himself that he's grown to despise. Sadness, grief, longing, compassion, and hope: they will do nothing. They will accomplish nothing. He sees it as an unnecessary indulgence — something he lets himself feel just to validate himself. To pretend that he's a better person than he really is. That he can be better.
He can't.
Take compassion, for example. For Thorne, compassion coming from him is a useless token. Compassion is pointless when no action is taken, and he can't— he can't promise anything. And what good is feeling sympathy for anything when you can't do anything to help them?
Once upon a time, he had worn his heart on his sleeve. He used to be brighter, all smiles and laughter: a light that waveringly persisted even after the destruction of his village. And he had tried to help — to save people, to do good in the world. But after a few events that I won't get into right now, he... became disillusioned. Overly so, I would say. After all, what was the point in having a bleeding heart when you wouldn't be able to save them no matter how much you bled? When you would only make things worse? He began to harden and hold the world at an arms length. Slowly, he learned to conceal himself, to manipulate and charm and persuade.
And the more beautiful his mask became, the more he began to despise himself.
To be blunt, Thorne hates himself far too much to indulge in these emotions.
Sadness, grief, longing, compassion, and hope: he began to deal with them by either internally pulling away or leaning into his anger.
Thorne's anger isn't the raging, blood-pumping kind — not usually, anyway. His anger is focused, deliberate, like ice and frost creeping up a metal chain and delicately shattering it to pieces. Anger is easy. Anger is cold. Anger lets him look at the world with a knife-like clarity, lets him ignore the steadfast ache in his chest. Anger lets him ignore the emptiness that follows him wherever he goes. Anger... is protection.
Yes, not a very healthy way to cope. But he'll be having some hefty character development throughout the course of the game! :D
🍧 — Do they still have any objects from their childhood? What significance does it have to them? What would their reaction be if they lost it?
Thorne has a bracelet made of twine, with little wooden star-shaped beads woven into it in pretty patterns! His mother had been the one to weave the bracelet, while his father had been the one to carve the wooden stars.
It had been his thirteenth birthday gift; his father gave it to him the day before his Wreath Day. His mother had woven it for him when she fell sick with the Grey Waste. The Grey Waste was deadly, and she had known that it was very unlikely she would be able to pull through. So, shakily, laboriously, she created one last gift for her son, to be given on his thirteenth birthday.
Thorne had cried for hours when he received the bracelet, burrowing into his father's arms as he bawled his heart out. Now, the bracelet is old and worn; he keeps it in a pouch he wove himself, embroidered with patterns of his parents' favorite flowers in honor of their memory. He would be absolutely devastated if something were to ever happen to it, and would probably be shattered for days before painfully accepting that it was gone.

ooh I was obsessed with PJO back in school, so here's my take on it :) with some help from search engines in regards to demigod traits because it's been a hot minute since I've read the books lol
(some alpha demo spoilers here)
Blade - Nemesis (Balance, Retribution, Vengeance, Justice)
Blade was a prominent member of the Ket rebellion, meant to assassinate the entire friggin Autarch and everything. She spared his life, and asked him to lead the Shepherds - themes of the above with Nemesis there!
children of Nemesis tend to gravitate towards being pragmatic and rational; many of them dislike bullies, irrationality, and betrayal. of course, not every single one is like that, but I'd say that sounds like Blade to me. :)
Trouble - Ares (War, Violence, Rage)
the temper is what first came to mind for me, though Ares is definitely waaaay more of a hothead in the series than Trouble is. we know that Trouble has perfect aim - a combination of both the Equalists and his own natural talent in-game, but could definitely be a gift from Ares in a PJO AU.
children of Ares tend to be stubborn, confrontational, physically strong, and deeply loyal. hurting somebody they care about is basically signing your own death sentence.
Tallys - Demeter (Harvest, Agriculture)
you know, I wasn't totally sure with her - my other choice is Hades tbh. but! as we all know, our best elf girl Tallys is very much connected to nature, with a green thumb and a love of animals.
children of Demeter tend to be fussy, stubborn, strict, take on too much responsibility, and let their emotions cloud their judgement.
Shery - Hebe (Youth, Forgiveness, Innocence)
Hebe's domain is basically my explanation for her. :)
children of Hebe tend to be kind, gentle, generous, forgiving, protective, loyal, soft-hearted... you guys I'll cry I love Shery Acquell so much. she deserves the best.
Riel - Hephaestus (Blacksmiths, Fire, Volcanoes)
Athena would absolutely be my other choice, but here's my reasoning for Riel. not only is he brilliant, he's an inventor! how much stuff has he made by himself in-game? I rest my case.
children of Hephaestus tend to be intelligent, crafty, meticulous, and struggle with relationships/social things.
Chase - Hermes (Messengers, Travelers, Thieves)
this one seems like a gimme lol. the god of thieves for the prince of thieves, doing his dad proud. also, kids in the series who don't know who their god parent is stay in Hermes' cabin until they find out (if they do) - this lowkey makes me think of Chase taking in others in the Thieves Guild? that one might be a stretch, though.
children of Hermes are crafty, deceptive, sneaky, humorous, all over the place, and unable to take things seriously.
Red - Hecate (Magic, Sorcery, Crossroads)
Red probably has more of Apollo's sunny personality, but hear me out. this guy loves the weird and the unknown. he isn't put off by it at all - on the contrary, he wants to know as much as he can. and with him being a Traveler, his god parent representing crossroads just feels fitting to me.
I don't see a ton on what traits kids of Hecate tend to have? I should reread the books sometime.
Best Character in SHOH Ayla - Zeus (Justice, Weather, the Sky)
she was abandoned as a baby to avoid Hera omg Ayla puts on a tough front, but pls that girl has a marshmallow center. a strong sense of justice, a temper, association with the weather. that's Ayla! as a child of one of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades), she's led a rougher life than other demigods because of the bigger target on her back.
children of Zeus tend to be independent, temperamental, unforgiving to their foes, and paranoid. I'd say she's more untrusting than she is paranoid, but I can't blame her either way bc her life suuuuucks.
Briony - Poseidon (The Sea, Storms, Horses)
Briony seems like she'd be a horse girl in another life. once again, a child of the Big Three! she had to be one of their kids bc of how powerful Big Three children are in the series, and given how relevant the sea is in her backstory, Poseidon seemed like a good fit. maybe the amnesia storm was a blessing in disguise?
children of Poseidon tend to be reactive, unpredictable, deeply loyal (to the point of it being a fatal flaw), and jealous.
Lavinet - Aphrodite (Love, Desire, Beauty)
this one might also be a gimme. in the series proper, Aphrodite's kids have a tradition of making somebody fall for them, only to break their hearts. Lavinet, who values love and is searching for her own true connection, spurned this tradition and is something of a black sheep amongst her siblings.
children of Aphrodite tend to be romantic, compassionate, charismatic, empathetic, and shallow.
Lena I'm so sorry for this wall of text lol
Lena I am BEGGING Percy Jackson/demi god AU PLEASE 🙏🏽 Chase as a child of Hermes, Briony as a child of Ares, Lavinet for Aphrodite, so many of them fit PERFECTLY
Haha, although I never saw/read Percy Jackson, I did write down which Greek Gods the characters seem closest to here! How did I do? Does it seem accurate? :)
#if: Shepherds of Haven#my inner middle school student is having the time of their life rn. I'm sorry I went overboard omg

the fact that chase hates destiny/fate/etc and how important that is to cara given the events of the recent alpha update (because she’s now panicking and having an existential crisis). the now is what matters to chase. he chose cara and cara chose him. for him to be a steadying rock in such earth-shattering revelations and guilt and uncertainty and pressure is exactly what cara needs.

🍕, 🥊, ❤️, and 🧠 for Thorne? or any other OC of choice!
ASK GAME: THORNE BRIERS | SHEPHERDS OF HAVEN | OMNI
sdsdhg thank you so much for sending an OC ask, I'm 🥹🥹🥹very happy!! Going to monch those ask emojis like candy grams fr
First, I'd like to clarify that Thorne Briers is an OC that I've technically had for five years! I use him in multiple universes, but for this ask I'll be answering for him in the context of the SHOH universe 🤺🤺🤺
MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE ALPHA BUILD BELOW!!
🍕 — What is their favorite food?
Thorne is a huge fan of food — one of the first things he does whenever arriving at a new city is to sample their specialty dishes! As a result, he has a lot of favorite foods, so this is a bit difficult to narrow down. But! I shall try my best to rise to the challenge!
Thorne has a notable fondness for Halek's creations. He’s always first in line to taste-test Halek’s many culinary experiments, and he’s gained quite the reputation for it. There was one time when he came home from a patrol around Haven, anticipating Halek’s latest kitchen creation — only to find that it had been demolished by the other Shepherds. He was so genuinely disappointed that his face, according to an anonymous source, "came dangerously close to resembling a heartbroken cat's". It was an expression so rarely seen on him that those in the vicinity had to do a double take.
Thorne loves salty and buttery flavors. He's obsessed with them. I cannot stress this enough, if Blest had anything remotely similar to our world's honey butter chips, he would be All Over It. As for his favorite food, he's extremely fond of salted butter tea — for the reasons stated above!
He also loves anything loaded with cheese, or spices, or both, so some of his other favorite foods include: Smoked lava cheese buns and root vegetable gratin (Ambryn specialties), and steamed dumplings in chili oil (Korgoth specialty)!
🥊 — What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
WHAT HE LOVES TO DO:
Thorne would say something like 'composing music on the violin' or 'embroidering personalized designs onto his clothes'. And while he does like doing the aforementioned things, I, his creator, would have to say that what he really loves to do is... sleeping in!
Yes. Thorne Briers here is a very, very big fan of sleeping in. It's almost sacred to him. As a Captain-now-Commander, his sleeping-in opportunities are few and few between; but when he does get the chance, he practically leaps at it! Good luck getting ahold of him during the mornings of his days off — he refuses to leave his bed until he's slept at least 2 hours past his usual waking time, and anyone who tries to rouse him before that is in for a very creative, yet groggily mumbled series of death threats.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's a common sight to see him dozing off beside Halek to squeeze in some quick power naps during particularly busy days at the Order! Thorne's self-aware enough to know that once he crawls into his own bed, he'd probably never leave it — so he makes do by finding a spot near Halek and taking his naps there. He finds Halek's lackadaisical demeanor to be soothing and trusts him to have his back against any possible attacks or wayward insects, so they're well-known napping buddies!
WHAT HE HATES TO DO:
... Anything that involves getting up close and personal with crawly/slimy bugs and insects! It can really get in the way of his missions, but he hates the damned things. The sight makes his skin crawl and triggers his fight or flight — mainly flight — instincts like nothing else.
In chapter 4, the faceless lord is described to sometimes appear as a rotting corpse crawling with beetles and worms. You can bet that Thorne was fighting the urge to vomit for more reasons than one. Even days after he eradicated Buubas, he can still feel his skin crawl out of the blue — like beetles were crawling under his skin. That's how much they bother him. He can handle getting thrown off a cliff with gritted teeth and sharpened eyes, but getting close to those things? Hael.
And, yes, chapter 7 was a very bad time for him. The Bleakmoor swamp is a breeding ground for all sorts of unholy mutated insects; the chapter once mentions how Blade dislodges a nest of wriggling leeches when he moves a shrub, and I honestly think Thorne considered handing in his resignation then and there.
As it was, he just turned stiff as a board and did his damnedest to hide his discomfort — he hates appearing vulnerable/emotional — but by then everyone knew him well enough to tell what was going on.
Chase had to really double down on his jokes and chatter to get Thorne's mind off of the insect breeding ground they were currently slogging through. And it worked, somewhat! It's notoriously easy to make Thorne laugh, a fact that has surprised many who have known him. It's safe to say that Thorne's experience with the swamp would have been much more miserable if Chase hadn't been there. Later, after the whole kithma business had somewhat settled and Thorne had taken an unholy amount of baths, he would take Chase aside and sincerely — if somewhat awkwardly — thank him for his help.
❤️ — What is one of your OC’s best memories?
This is a closely guarded secret of Thorne's, but he's actually quite sentimental — or, in other words, a massive sap. The experiences he had in chapters 3 and 4 were pivotal for his development as a character, and affected how he behaves in chapter 5 and beyond.
One of his best memories is, oddly enough, waking up in the Reach and eavesdropping on Blade absolutely ripping into the Hunters for his sake. It was kind of an enormous "Oh" moment for him. The realization that he now has people who'll look out for him, that he has people who'll get angry for his sake.
Thorne is a bleeding heart turned cynic. A flash of clenched teeth and glacial eyes. Faith is a safety net he discarded long ago, the moment he wiped his entire village off the map with the utterance of a word. A once-child-now-adult who’s seen and done too much in his years of wandering the world alone. He's someone who refuses to be hurt, who masks and calculates and manipulates in his dealings with other people because you can't hurt someone who's not completely real. Though he'll mix some sincerity into his manipulations in order to make him appear a bit more trustworthy, he'll rarely show you his whole heart. He's taken the leap of trust before, and the fall had shattered his bones. Never again. He'll never expose himself like that again.
So when he wakes up from having his body — quite literally, this time — shattered, only to overhear his Commander, companion, and maybe sort of friend so furious for (mostly) his sake, it's staggering. He's almost bewildered. I think that's when he realized that he's in for the long haul with the Shepherds now; that they won't just be some paragraph in his endless cycle of meeting and departing. And I think that was the moment when the Shepherds gained his utterly unswerving loyalty. So, thank you Blade, I guess <3 Now that I think about it, Blade has had a massive influence on Thorne's development as a Shepherd, right from the very first day off they spent together. What a Commander <3
🧠 — What do you like most about the OC?
I like how unstable he is initially; how his journey with the Shepherds isn't as smooth as slotting a single puzzle piece into place. Before fully accepting the Shepherds as his own, Thorne had to give way. He'd had to take apart the veil of distrust and calculations that kept him safely shrouded from the world, and let them see him. See his scars, see his anger, see him as himself, not as the veneer of carefully constructed eloquence that has practically become a second skin — like a sumptous robe meant to cloak him and turn him into something invulnerable. And it had taken a long while. Hael, he had to fall off a cliff and witness his Commander getting angry for his sake before he even realized that the Shepherds had become people extremely important to him. Thorne's journey is one of change and new beginnings; of daring to envision a future shrouded in sunlight rather than shadow. It's a tale of learning to trust yourself as you learn to trust others. And for that, he is very dear to me.
... This got long. Sorry. SORRY. SO SORRY. BUT. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BLAB ABOUT HIM. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ILYSM <333
#shepherds of haven#oc: thorne#i swear i didn't mean to make it this long#it just#Happened#HELPDSGD#gameboard.txt#anyways. i like my ocs a normal amount <3
