Shoujo mangakas - my (possible) top 3

So, these mangakas may not have written all of my favorite mangas, but they’ve made the list because I love most of their manga. 

1.       Mitsuki Kako

I have always loved her mangas. And I’ve read all of them, except for Dear! (for now) and part of Sai x Ai (lack of translation)

A few of them haven’t been translated to english yet – but I’ve heard Chibi Manga is working on them – so I read it in spanish.

To be completely honest, I absolutely love most of her works, but I’ll try to separate a few favorites.

My favorite one shots are Fly High! and Melodramatic Library.

As for the longer ones, Ai Hime – Ai to Himegoto and Kiss/Hug.

 Btw, she also does josei (be warned, all of them are smut as well)

S Love – complete in spanish and portuguese, last few chapters coming out in english

Wana Love - complete in spanish and portuguese

Love Phantom - there are way more chapters available in spanish – or even portuguese – but they’re coming out in english as well.

2.       Kaji Eiri

I found out about her relatively recently, and have read all of her Romance mangas. 

The couples are always super flirty, so I love it.

She only has 3 completely translated works (one of them is still being translated and just had its last volume published in japan) and I love them.

Also, all 3 of them are in the supernatural/fantasy genre.

Keishichou Tokuhanka 007

The "Special crime investigation department 007″ includes the most capable and extraordinary investigators and Fuyuki, who also becomes one of its members, is very capable, to. And she is paired with Kuze, a cool and very handsome detective. Their combination proves to be the most dangerous one the police headquarters had ever seen!

Kainushi wa Akuma

Most people love red hair. It's so vibrant and striking. But not our protagonist, Nora. Many people in her village hate her because she has red hair because of an old legend in the village. Though some people hate her, she still pulls on. But her not -so-ordinary life might become mysterious and dangerous soon... in more ways than one?!

Majo to Kiketsu no Kishi

The great snow-covered kingdom of Bistron, legend has it that an evil witch lives in the Black Forest at the edge of the kingdom… That very witch, Veronica finds herself summoned by the ruler of Bistron through his messenger of noble blood, Ignatius.

3.       Murata Mayu

Her work is really really cute, both the story and the art.

Nagareboshi Lens hasn’t been fully translated yet, but Kogarashi Scans is working on it! You can read it in spanish though, or wait for the last 15 chapters in english.

And Honey Lemon Soda is still being released in japan.

Okinawan Dragon

Of all Asian dragons, Okinawan Dragons are odd in that they have a peculiar life cycle, starting out as water-snake-like creatures which are notably shy and maturing only after many years (while some old records state 1000 years, this is generally interpreted as purposeful hyperbole to symbolise an extended period of time). Mature Okinawan Dragons are as intelligent as any other Asian Serpent Dragon, forming a hierarchy under a dragon referred to as the Ryujin - the dragon king. Like Chinese River Longs and Japanese Mizuchi, Okinawan Dragons are primarily aquatic, which tends to keep them far from humans, and it is to them that much of the magical populace of Okinawa attribute their origins, and the origins of other magical creatures on the islands - which ties in to the current theories about the origins of Yokai magic.

Okinawan Dragons can be entreated through careful polite manners and certain semi-religious ritualistic magic to avoid wixes or to abstain from doing them harm, and regular polite treatment can, as it does with Ryuu and Long dragons, ensure peaceful interaction. However an angry Okinawan Dragon is as likely to cause a storm as eat the offending individual whole, and most wixes stay far away from Okinawan Dragons unless given no other choice. Indeed, the rumours of the weather abilities of Okinawan Dragons are, if not truly evidenced, certainly hard to deny; Okinawan Dragons working together have been known to both seem to call and calm storms at sea, especially when angered or appeased respectively. Indeed, extensive practice with this appeasement is part of why Okinawan dragonology is one of the oldest in the world; starting when a muggle doctor managed to heal an Okinawan Dragon’s eye disease.

Well now I’m curious, what kinds of theories have you and @mahoutokoro-at-nagumo been developing about Yokai? Thanks for answering my question! You always come up with the coolest stuff! :D

Well primarily the theories @mahoutokoro-at-nagumo and I have been developing about Yokai is how they evolve. We know their magic is different and distinct, which is why they’re a classification unto themselves, and we know they’re probably in some way related to the Yaoguai of China. The current theory we have is that one of the Chinese Lung or Long dragons started to develop odd magic way back in prehistory, and when some of these dragons went over to Japan their magic diverged from their Chinese kin - thus Chinese Long became the origin for Yaoguai magic, while Ryuu become the origin for Yokai magic. Both of these magics, due to the highly magical nature of Dragons, are mutative - we see in Crups and Kneazles - and even Post Owls - that exposure to magic can cause alteration to an otherwise ordinary creature, increasing intelligence and eventually giving magical ability. When you have a very highly magical creature this tendency would only increase - a highly magical creature such as a dragon.

So the theory we have for the origin of Yokai magic is that it first developed in a dragon, who’s sheer degree of magic then proceeded to mutate other creatures - wolves and foxes, for a start, but eventually other creatures, magical phenomena…. most of the island of Japan, even - as wixes arrived and started to create rituals which bound the Yokai magic away from them, or who were born with a buffer of natural magic that kept them largely safe from the mutative effects of Yokai magic. This fits with the lore we each have on multiple levels - Dragons are very long lived, Dragons definitely were lore shared between China and Japan, and both cultures regard the creatures with great respect and in HP we know that Dragons are highly magical - the wandcore made of their heartstring is one of the strongest known - and we know that different creatures can have magic different from one another - House Elf magic being distinct from human magic for an example, and thus being able to bypass human spells.

So far as we can tell, it’s a theory that holds up. And we can even use it to explain things like Oni and possession.
