#Rym Hawke

I'm going to go for Rym from the still untitled third novel of my Arabian Fantasy wip.

Belong.

Rym is the oldest of Siran and Fire's three children, and adores her siblings and parents equally. She cannot imagine a world without their laughter or their smiles.

Seek.

Rym was raised to be Queen, and looks forward to it, dreaming of the day when she will sit on the throne. Her plans for what she will do after that day have already been made.

Avoid.

Rym grew up on her mother's take of how her father reclaimed his throne from the man who murdered his father and married his mother, and she watches all the ambitious nobles in the court like a hawk, fearing that her father might suffer the same fate as his own. She will never let that happen.

I will start off with Nikolas, because why not? I thought it would be fun to talk about the oldest brother more.

Belong

Nikolas was always the oldest brother. While their mother was alive, he was always the one to help her out around the house, and he instinctively took over to take care of the other brothers. Even after their parents passed, he didn't think twice about his decision, and he had dropped everything for them. He sacrifices a lot of his personal life for his brothers, but technically, they are all what he has. He doesn't know what his life would be like without them.

Seek

Nikolas feels the best with his family, and he often wishes that he could spend more time with them. His personal life does continue to suffer as he had to end his engagement with the woman he had once loved. However, he's not sure anymore if he would like to get married or have children of his own one day. Also, his job demands increasingly more of his time, leaving him feeling constantly drained and on the verge of exhaustion.

Avoid

Nikolas is one of a few characters, who can not escape anything, and has to face everything heads on. He faces the death every day at his work, and he has to put everything aside and sometimes comfort other people's loved ones. Hell, it had taken a massive toll on their entire family many years ago when their parents passed away. So, he fears to think about his brothers. He fears something bad happening to them all the time, and it is his job to protect them.

On a joy-ride between dimensions, an alien boy called A-Rym and his symbiotic pet, Teppy, are flung into the separate worlds of Earth-One and Earth-Two. They must be re-united, or both will die, but the environment of Earth changes both into rampaging, monstrous menaces. 

Flash has already been injured in an encounter with Teppy, while the Earth-Two Green Lantern falls prey to A-Rym, who takes his power ring, sensing that it can reunite him with his pet. Joined in the battle by the Robins of both Earths, the Justice League and Justice Society form two new teams to deal with the threats. Green Lantern joins the two Hawk-men and the two Robins against A-Rym, while Flash of Earth-Two teams with the two Supermen and the two Atoms against Teppy. 

While this second group successfully captures Teppy, on Earth-Two, Robin of Earth-One is injured in the struggle, and A-Rym finds an ally in the macabre Solomon Grundy.

While Solomon Grundy routs the combined forces of the JLA and JSA heroes, Robin has his damaged uniform replaced temporarily with a new and different costume supplied by his Earth-Two counterpart, designed by "a costume designer named Neal Adams". 

His ring returned, Earth-Two's Green Lantern teams with his namesake to over-come Grundy and imprison him in his swampland home. A-Rym is finally captured, on the verge of death, and the two Robins deduce that he can be saved by being brought together with his pet. Green Lantern brings the two together, and A-Rym and Teppy are then retrieved by their extradimensional companions. As the heroes part company, Robin of Earth-One contemplates keeping his new outfit.

If there is anything that writers got even worse than female characters, was sidekicks. For whatever reason they tend to be the target of any kind of humiliation in these stories, just to let us know they are inexperienced and irrational (like kids). But that is also not having any respect for your characters. Because under different circumstances they are as useful as their mentors. It’s just on team-ups that they become inefficient. This case is even worse, considering that the Robin of Earth-2 has been around for longer than our Dick.

Another little detail about this story that may confuse some people, is the fact that Earth-One Robin wears the future Earth-Two costume. The reason for this was that readers were supposed to write if they wanted Robin to keep the new costume, but it didn’t take. The costume isn’t bad (we have seen many variations of this suit that worked). But considering how awful Earth-Two’s suit is, I would have considered updating him first.

Now, for the story itself, it’s a bit better than the usual crossovers, but I haven’t been such a conglomerates of useless super-heroes in a long time, and people complain about the JLI. Two super groups cannot handle a kid and his pet. And Solomon Grundy, who was added to this story so they could make it long enough to last two issues.

Another complaint I have is the coloring. You are introducing a new suit that readers have to care about, and the coloring is just bad and inconsistent.

I give the story a score of  6.25.
