Narnia, has died at Moskvarium (est. 17 years old).  The cause of death was intestinal volvulus.  The press release does not issue the date of death, but its presumed to have occurred in January 2023.  More details will be posted if they are released. Narnia was captured on  August 11, 2012 in Reyneke Bay, Sea of Okhotsk, Russia.
(translated, Russian) "Narnia passed away at the age of 17, she was the oldest representative of the Moskvarium killer whale family. Until the last day, there were no signs of illness or illness in the behavior and medical records of Narnia. The cause of death was established after a study, the results of which were received a few days later - Narnia died of acute intestinal volvulus. Unfortunately, toothed whales, including killer whales, are very often affected by this pathology. This pathology is described both in wild killer whales and dolphins, and in animals living in artificial conditions. The departure of Narnia is an irreparable loss for the entire Moskvarium team."

Sure, oynon. I was planning to share about Maria Petrova for example as one of the case in my list "women killers who attacked men". Can also recreate my two post from previous acc: 1) about "cook of Saint Petersburg" Ilshat Kuzikov, 2) about two goth guys who ate their fan.
Also Blue Whale is interesting case that also tcc, but more about arg. And Kazan Phenomenon about teen gangs that terror my city in 1980-90s.
Just keep sharing my previous things so i do it faster. You can use tag to see.

[ Illustration of a Steller’s sea cow from “Extinct Monsters: A Popular Account of Some of the Larger Forms of Ancient Animal Life” (1896). ]
“On a Russian-led expedition in the northern Pacific Ocean in the 1740s, German botanist Georg Wilhelm Steller laid eyes on a species that captured his imagination. It looked like a manatee but was bigger than a killer whale, and it grazed similarly to a cow or horse. After Steller described the animal, it became known as Steller’s sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas).
The sea cow could grow about 9 meters (30 feet) in length and weigh up to 10 metric tons, but this colossal creature had few defenses. Covered with thick blubber, the sea cow could not fully submerge itself in the water, but floated at the surface, grazing on kelp. This tendency made the species vulnerable to hunting.
“These animals are very voracious and eat incessantly, and because they are so greedy they keep their heads always under water, without regard to life and safety,” Steller wrote in his account. “Hence a man in a boat, or swimming naked, can move among them without danger and select at ease the one of the herd he desires to strike — and accomplish it all while they are feeding.”
By 1768, less than three decades after Steller formally described the species, the sea cow was extinct. But in a new paper, some scientists suggest the species left a considerable legacy in the coastal waters of the North Pacific: the enhancement of kelp forests through its eating habits.
From Baja California to southeastern Alaska, giant kelp forests sprout from the seabed along the coast. Giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera), a kind of algae, can grow up to 60 centimeters (2 ft) daily in ideal conditions, making it one of the fastest-growing species in the world. While the average length of giant kelp is 30 m (100 ft), it can grow up to 53 m (173 ft) — about half the length of a football field.
These vast underwater forests provide multiple benefits: food and habitat for thousands of species, water oxygenation that helps reduce ocean acidification, and the protection of coastlines from powerful waves and storm surges, which are getting stronger and more frequent with human-induced climate change.
But globally, kelp forests are threatened by warming temperatures, overfishing, pollution and other human activities.
In their new paper, scientists argue that the sea cow impacted kelp forests in the North Pacific by browsing at the surface, which would have encouraged the growth and strengthening of different kinds of understory algae. This thick, rich algae would then provide a food source for predatory urchins that can devour kelp, turning the ecosystem into what’s known as “urchin barren.” In California, for instance, it’s estimated that 95% of the kelp has recently disappeared, primarily because of urchin predation.”
- Excerpt from “Extinct sea cow’s underwater engineering legacy lives on today, study finds” by Elizabeth Claire Alberts.

Movies of 2023 - My Pre-Summer Rundown (Part 1)
The Runners-Up:
20.  WE HAVE A GHOST – Christopher Landon, the writer-director of Freaky and the Happy Death Day movies, brings something a bit more family friendly to Netflix with this endearingly goofy spook-fest fantasy comedy about a down-on-their-luck family (led by father Anthony Mackie) who discover that their rundown new home is inhabited by the ghost of its former owner (Stranger Things’ David Harbour), only for their lives to become infinitely more complicated when their resulting YouTube adventures attract the attention of well-connected ghosthunter Tig Notaro.
19.  A MAN CALLED OTTO – Tom Hanks is intriguingly cast against type as a grouchy curmudgeon in this likeable comedy-drama adaptation of popular Swedish novel A Man Called Ove, in which Hanks’ titular grump tries to manage his “final transition” on his own term, only to find his efforts confounded at every turn by his bumbling new neighbours (Mentiras’ Mariana Trevino and The Magnificent Seven’s Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and their family), who ultimately give him a reason to go on living after all …
18.  KNOCK AT THE CABIN – M. Night Shyamalan continues his comeback tour from mediocrity with this deeply troubling psychological horror thriller adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s similarly dark and disturbing novel The Cabin At the End of the World.  Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge (Fleabag) and Kristen Cui are the gay couple and their small adopted daughter who are forced to make an impossible choice in order to save the world by a group of seemingly insane strangers that includes Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint.
17.  THE TANK – 2023 is already turning out to be a genuine BUMPER YEAR for really great and sometimes genuinely surprising horror cinema, and this recent chance discovery is a particular standout.  Writer-director Scott Walker (The Frozen Ground) has crafted a lean, mean and fantastically creepy little period horror (set in the year I was BORN!) about a small family who learn they’ve just inherited a potentially super-pricey property on the Portland coast, only to discover that there’s a very nasty catch indeed ...
16.  65 – ignore the naysayers and check this out!  It’s a CRACKER!!!  Seriously, this Adam Driver-starring sci-fi thriller from writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (the guys who came up with the original idea for A Quiet Place) is a trim little suspense-filled actioner which has NO FAT ON IT, powered along by a FANTASTIC core concept – 65 million years ago, a space-farer from a distant civilisation crash landed here on earth and had to fight to escape from ravenous dinosaurs and an impending global cataclysm …
15.  TETRIS – Jon Baird, the director of Filth and Stan & Ollie, brings the fascinating untold “true” story of how daring entrepreneur game developer Henk Rogers (Kingsman’s Taron Egerton) braved Russian bureaucracy, the KGB and corporate double dealing to bring the titular video game out of the Soviet Union and into the West through the new creation from Nintendo, the Gameboy.  The end result is a fascinating and endearingly quirky little true-life biopic with a cute can-do attitude to match its inspiring story.
14.  SCREAM VI – last year’s fifth offering from Kevin Williamson’s (literal) killer horror franchise may have missed the mark a little bit, but the latest entry gets things RIGHT back on track with the best Scream movie in YEARS.  Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) are the survivor sisters who discover that the murderous Ghostface still isn’t done with them when they find themselves beset in a new murder spree on the streets of New York City …
13.  THE WHALE – while it’s not QUITE as good as the MASSIVE hype built it up to be, Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation of Samuel Hunter’s acclaimed play is still a compelling and powerful piece of work, driven by a genuinely SPECTACULAR cast – Hong Chau (Downsizing) entirely deserves her Supporting Oscar nom for this, but the film is entirely DOMINATED by a career best, Oscar-winning turn from Brendan Fraser as a terminally obese shut-in desperately trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink).
12.  BOSTON STRANGLER – the true story behind the controversial hunt for the notorious serial killer who stalked Boston in the early 1960s finally gets told in Crown Heights writer-director Matt Ruskin’s tight and tidy slowburn procedural thriller for Hulu.  Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon are both magnificent as the intrepid reporters for the Boston Record American newspaper who first uncovered how badly the Boston PD botched the investigation and the true extent of the monumental clusterfuck that ensued.
11.  THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CHILDREN – 2019’s Body At Brighton Rock is one of the most impressive unsung indie chillers I’ve ever come across, and director Roxanne Benjamin has definitely improved upon that impressive debut with this skin-crawling psychological supernatural horror for Blumhouse.  A genuine masterpiece of subtlety, it makes a proper virtue of exploiting the viewer’s imagination, the power of suggestion and the inherent creepiness of other people’s kids …

Ayyy! Happy new year! This time I have a writing question for you! Do you have any suggestions for how to deal with suspension of disbelief in the context of writing a really fucked up whumper? Like, I just want to write. I have the basics of the dynamic and motive down but if I think about it too hard I start rationalizing myself out of it and thinking things like "Okay, sure he's a terrible person... But his thought process doesnt make sense to me," which is frustrating because it also DOES make sense to me, but it's so easy to poke holes in. Another example being creepy, posessive whumpers which I'm trying hard to write, and I GET that it's irrational but also I just end up thinking "But... If you love him... Why is he in a cage with his eyes gouged out..."
🐳
Hello Whale!! Happy New Year to you too :D
Thank you for your questions! This is something I'm particularly passionate about, but I tend to NOT see it in the whump community (which honestly, I don't really like to say I'm a part of, I just know that tagging my works as that will bring in the crowd who can enjoy it most). There are so many dead characters that are only there for the sake of causing pain and creating whump. It's frustrating to me lol.
First of all, the biggest reason you'd most likely have trouble with the suspension of disbelief in the context of a fucked up whumper or villain would be because you don't know his motivation. People don't just do fucked up things out of nowhere for the sake of doing fucked up things for fun. And even if people might exist in real life that seem to do this, it's just because we don't actually know what's going on inside their head.
With villains/whumpers, you have to understand their belief system, their goals, and their drive that pits them against the hero/whumpee. I know people in the whump community are typically pretty lazy with this, but if you're wanting the writing advice that you should follow in any story, then...you know. Stop looking at whump writing for examples (and by this I mean MOST, not ALL. I found a couple like @deluxewhump and @whumpzone most notably, who have well-formed characters and cohesive progression of arcs.).
And I don't say this to sound high and mighty, so I hope it doesn't come off that way. I just get frustrated, having studied writing and characters my whole life, seeing such flat writing being excused because of its so-called whump content. T_T Moving on, though! I struggle with concern over certain characters I have coming off as cartoonishly abusive, as well, such as Mother in Little Bird, which I just recently published a sample of here. It's a little hard for me to describe the intricacies of my thought process when trying to assure big, awful villains come off as realistic, but the first step is definitely their reason for doing it in the first place.
To use Mother as an example, I added elements of her environment to make sure that violence and extreme brutality were part of her world, her upbringing, and the dynamic she has with her son, Ellum, in general. So she's the partner of a Russian pakhan, a leader of a syndicate. This is a particularly brutal environment, which offers the perfect space to breed cruelty and nurse bad habits. She can get away with abusing her son, she has more aggravators around her that can set off her anger, and since I gave her the added struggle of mental disorders, her unstable state is even further kicked out of balance by the way she lives.
With creepy and possessive whumpers, or otherwise captors like you mentioned, think of irl serial killers. Behind almost all of them and their extreme brutality, there was a mother or parent who was awful to them in their childhood. An unstable environment and a horrible upbringing would lead to a cycle of abuse and, later on, someone who would hurt others out of "love" or "lust", because their impulse control is extremely low.
The most important thing is to show more than one side to your villain, because humans in general do things that they believe are correct. The villain has to believe in himself and think that what he's doing is the right answer to whatever he's dealing with, internally or externally. He loves someone, he wants them to love him back. They don't love him back? Well, he'll make them. They still won't? Well he'll show them what they get for rejecting him. He doesn't want to get hurt anymore, and they hurt his feelings, so they deserve X, Y, or Z because of it.
And his motivation could be just pure selfishness. He wants it, he gets it. They don't have to agree or consent. Going back to Mother from Little Bird, she takes from Ellum because it makes her happy, and forcing him to be codependent on her fulfills her need to be needed, so she wrongly treats him almost as a lover to fill the hole that her husband leaves, since he's emotionally detached and uninterested in her. She feels rejected, so she goes after an easier prey.
To summarize, hopefully, because I never know if I'm speaking coherently enough for it to be understood lol, "Sure, he's a terrible person" should be followed by "but why is he a terrible person? What made him that way? Why doesn't he just stop and try to be normal?" And that should help you begin to understand your villain's motivation for cruelty.
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK LIL WHALE, IT WAS FUN TO ANSWER THIS ONE! I hope it helps.

Just realised that, with Kiska’s death, it only leaves 3 wild caught Icelandic killer whales left in captivity;
Ulises (SeaWorld San Diego), age 45
Katina (SeaWorld Orlando), age 46
Stella (Port of Nagoya), age 35
There are only a few of the original wild caught whales left in captivity now.
2 from BC (Lolita and Corky), and Kshamenk in Argentina. The rest of the wild captures are all the new Russian caught whales. (Not including Morgan as she was a rescue).
I also realised just how many whales we’ve lost since I started posting (on here and facebook) in 2010.
Wild caught Icelandic whales; Bingo, Oscar, Kasatka, Tilikum, Freya
Wild caught Japanese whale; Nami
Wild caught Russian whales; Narnia, plus at least 3 whales that died at TINRO post capture, plus 2-5 whales at Chimelong maybe (it’s rumoured 2 calves have been born but have never been mentioned by the park, plus they said they imported 9 whales but have only shown photos/video of six. We will have to wait until they go on public display to be sure)
Captive born whales that died; Taima, Kalina, Kohana, Skyla, Vicky, Ula, Sumar, Nakai, Amaya, Kyara, Valentin, Kayla, Unna.
That’s a lot of whales to watch die (26-29).
In comparison there have been 14-16 births.
(I don’t know where I was going with this post, I was just looking at the stats).

Please be careful my loves on your trips. In fact, I wouldn’t travel to wherever you are planning to go next but pls pray about it.
As I mentioned in the video, God said to travel to “US Friendly countries🇺🇸” IF you have to travel. Mexico 🇲🇽 is still a no go ☹️❌
The same applies if you are Jewish 🇮🇱 or Irish ☘️❌
Honourable mentions: LeBron & Ben Stiller
Orca aka Killer Whale:
Incoming revenge plot for those in Spain 🇪🇸 or Portugal 🇵🇹 OR if you are Latin American
Is there something major internationally going on besides the Russian-Ukrainian war???? Or is this the reason???👀🤔

Mexico's Marvelous Whale Watching: A Symphony of Giants
Mexico’s coastlines are not only places where people bask in the relief of sunny splendor, but they also harbour some spectacular optimal mammals on Earth. Whale watching in Mexico is a magical activity that reveals the grandeur of such enormous creatures on their native environment. From the teeming waters of Pacific to the quiet Sea of Cortez, Mexico whale watching provides a wondrous and lasting whale-watch trip. A Panoramic Whale Paradise: Mexico’s immense coastline offers a wide view that is ideal for whale watching. The Pacific coast is characterized by deep waters and an abundance of marine life that hosts revered creatures such as majestic blue whales, playful humpbacks among a host of others. On the east side, Sea Cortez or Gulf of California is today a world heritage site which has diverse whales including grey and killers. Whale Watching Hotspots: Whale watching in Mexico opportunities are exceptional at several hotspots along the coast of Mexico. Baja California, due to its Pacific and Gulf of Cortez shores is most famous. In sites such as Magdalena Bay and Loreto Bay National Marine Park, tourists can observe the private situations of gray whale calving or admire funny defiance by humpbacks. These locations represent the ideal place for an immersive whale-watching because of its variety of habitats and careful tourism practices. Conservation and Responsible Tourism: While not perfect, Mexico is proud of the fact that it encourages responsible whale watching. There are strict regulations in order to minimize interference with the whales’ normal behaviors and habitats. These standards are followed by tour operators to create an industry not only delivering unique experiences for the visitor but also actively supporting preservation of these magnificent marine creatures.
Seasonal Wonders: The best time to undertake a whale-watching trip in Mexico comes with an additional thrill. Simply, winter is the time of gray whale migration at its peak when they travel from Alaskan and Russian Arctic feeding grounds to mate and give birth in Baja California waters. In spring and early summer, it is possible to observe humpback whales breaching & tail slapping which gives this marine scenario a seasonal rhythm. The Symphony of Giants: The thrill of whale watching in Mexico is that size and magnificence these creatures possess. What makes such a symphony of nature is the sight of blue whales sailing across an ocean surface or gray ones travelling on in lockstep. It is not merely how something looks; it is a sensual voyage into the center of grandeur in oceans. https://www.greywhale.com/whale-watching-mexico/

On the 18-19 of January a group of experts visited the “whale jail” in Srednaja bay of Primorsky kray for the inspection. The group included killer whale scientists from FEROP. We used the inspection data to make a photo identification catalog of 11 killer whales kept in Srednaja bay. They are Alexandra, Kirill, Vitas, Vasilievna, Harja, Leha, Forest, Gaika, Zina, Zoya and Tihon. Killer whales could be identified by the individual shapes of their eye patches and saddle patches that don’t change from year to year. Eye patches could be used for identification from birth. Saddle patches usually become visible in the second or third year. Besides the eye patch and saddle, the dorsal fin shape, marks on the dorsal fin’s trailing edge, and scars on the body are also used for identification. Scars can stay visible for many years.  You can download the identification photos here
