Sephiroth and Kadaj aggressively arching their backs and hissing at each other only to suddenly come to the same conclusion that they BOTH fucking hate Rufus Shinra's guts.

Rufus wearily walks in from an all-hands Midgar restoration meeting to find Sephiroth and Kadaj summoning Meteor 2.0 in his living room.

What if Tseng was turned into an animal? Do you think it would be small or large? Something with wings to get away from all the bullshit he deals with on a daily basis?

If he could fly, do you think it would be to perch somewhere juuuuust out of reach? So the others could feel a fraction of the stress he does at their antics whilst they try to retrieve him?

If it was something large, like a tiger or Nibel Cat, do you think he would just loaf on a desk, somewhere sunny, or rotate through everyone's desks depending on where the sunspot was? Or hide away and nap in blissful, uninterrupted peace until the transformation wore off?

I didn't muse on this prior, but damn if a hundred questions hadn't popped into my head as quick as the initial thought did.

*Reno Rushes by Rufus and nearly collides with him*

Rufus: Why are you in such a rush?

Reno: Sorry boss! I need someone to hook me up with a can of whipped cream and some rope.

Rufus: My, my, Reno. Does this pertain to what I think it does?

Reno: Huh? Uhhh, I guess so.

Rufus: And who's the lucky dog?

Reno: Actually it's a cat! A really big cat.

Rufus: Forgive me. Is that your preference then?

Reno: Sorry boss, but I don't have time for this. I need the whipped cream so I can lure in Tseng, and then I need the rope to tie him up! He's a good kitty, I swear, but he's on the loose!

*Rufus slams his fist on the wall*

Reno: ??

Rufus: I need to go make some calls.

*He walks away calmly*

Reno: ....

*A black panther runs past*

Reno: HEY! TSENG! COME BACK!

[One hour later]

*Tseng is in his office*

Tseng: That is the last time I let Reno mess around with materia.

*Rufus walks in and calmly places a stack of papers on Tseng's desk*

Tseng: Sir, what is all this?

Rufus: These are divorce papers, you cheating bastard.

sephiroth and rufus in a cunt-off, who'd win?

Rufus allowed himself a soft chuckle as he entered his bedroom. He'd gotten under his skin that badly, hm? In that case, it would behoove him to play nice for a few days. If Reno even returned.

So he did. For the next to weeks he was a model prisoner. Polite and amiable and only as demanding as his father would expect, should he bother to check up on him. He thought through the intelligence he'd gathered on Veld carefully, and decided to start from the very bottom, just in case. But he was going to play his hand slowly.

He had nothing but time, after all.

The first step was to continue this act of being perfectly content until Reno snapped, because he was certain Reno knew him better by now, and wasn't going to put up with the charade for long.

Surprisingly, he found himself looking forward to that moment, which made him pause. Ever since he'd been ordered to stay in these lavish apartments, nothing had been truly entertaining or satisfying, but something about this actually excited him. He shook his head. He was definitely going stir crazy. Maybe it was time to try and persuade Tseng to let him take a little field trip for his good behavior...

Other than the displeasure clear in his gaze, Reno stayed silent as Rufus spoke and seemed to vibrate with that sense of accomplishment. Reno’s slip from before was already bad enough, he wouldn’t give him any further reactions to his implications.

"What I think is it’s about time for your rotation. I’ll be seeing you, Rufus.” he called after the blond as he went to ‘retire’. With that, he stood and went to collect his tablet, making notes and sending a few emails. He informed Tseng about what he needed to know, that Rufus was scheming, and it was likely best to shift the dynamics around him for a few days.

Reno wouldn’t give in the that gnawing hunger to understand the Shinra mans implications. Not as things currently stand…he couldn’t let the doubt and frustration fester without keeping it in line, because once he fed it enough, there was no killing it until he got answers or crashed into walls set to prevent him from understanding things.

"If it's the latter, you may be the boldest person I know." Which was a truly astounding idea, given how frequently he was in the company of Turks. He quickly reconsidered. "Actually, the former may be the bolder of the two, so I guess you win either way."

He stood straighter, looking at Shivan expectantly. "So which is it?"

"It's no different in my circles," Rufus chuckled. "It does get tiresome," he admitted. "Does that mean you'll finally tell me what you hope to gain from this conversation?" His lips turned up, amused.
