Child of Hera (Goddess of marriage, family, and the protector of women) - Cabin 2 (Wait wait let me explain-)

Practically, Rudy is a Demi-God who was unclaimed for around 6 years. Him and Alejandro came at the same time when they were very young as they were already friends and both just so happened to be Demi-gods (convenient, I know).

while Alejandro quickly got claimed by Ares, Rudy was stuck in the Hermes cabin (Cabin 11). After the sixth year, he was sick of being stuck in a cabin full of people who were plotting as if he wasn’t there - or worse, trying to recruit him for Kronos. So, in order to flee these children of Hermes, he decided to dedicate his worshipping and sacrifices to Hera. While yes, he clearly wasn’t her son as she doesn’t have any children with mortals, she eventually gave in and claimed him. (Yes, even if she isn’t actually his mother, she can claim him. It’s not a necessarily ‘stable’ system.)

At first, many other campers thought he was ‘weird’ or a ‘fraud’ for this, however people’s opinions on him quickly changed across the first few months. He worked up a good reputation, many ending up looking up to him.

Despite following Hera, he heavily enjoyed archery. He was pretty good at it as well, unfortunately it was not natural. Unlucky, that could have been a pointer to his godly parent. All Rudy did know was that his godly parent was his mother, his father being mortal. Or at least by typical standards, with these gods you could never know.

He quickly assisted the children of Apollo in training kids, especially unclaimed kids, how to properly shoot a bow. That’s the key reasons kids started looking up to him, that and his very threatening best friend - Alejandro. Who everyone feared (in a respectful way).

watching the valeria interrogation again and when alejandro says, “you disgrace the army”, rudy steps forward but when alejandro looks over his shoulder at him and says, “and your brothers, no?” he steps back again, almost like he’s trying to pull himself out of the conversation

alejandro leans in close to her and rudy reacts like he wants to pull him away, to protect him from her and from her words, but when he brings up that valeria hurt him too, betrayed him too, rudy retreats like he doesn't want to be reminded of it

it's alejandro who keeps valeria talking about the past, who prompts her to say more when simply saying she's ex-military would've been enough. they bait each other, valeria far more successfully than alejandro; she’s essentially running the interrogation

this speaks volumes of rudy’s interjection of, “he (the son of la areña) was supposed to go to prison”. he’s getting short; cutting off valeria and her excuses, not to redirect them back to the point of the interrogation but bc he’s done with her. rudy’s terser with her, more obviously angry, than he is with an actual terrorist

alejandro can't get past their history; let's himself get pulled off track and compromised but not be he's more upset than rudy. rudy has just repressed the hell out of it; if he doesn't think about it then it didn't happen

but now, he's suddenly being confronted with it head on

"you disgrace the army," is generalised; valeria didn't just hurt rudy, she hurt all of them. it's easier to take

"and your brothers," calls rudy out directly for his pain; pain alejandro wants retribution for and he doesn't want to face it, doesn't want to admit to it bc he doesn’t want to have to feel it

soap is white and mexican but he doesn’t look mexican at all

he didn’t really hide it, he just didn’t outright tell anyone, and anyway it was in his file so he didn’t feel the need to advertise it. he spoke spanish well enough bc of his grandma’s insistence that all her children teach their children as to not forget their heritage, it was a fun little tidbit that he kept close to himself, so when las almas came around and he grew closer to the vaqueros, he figured he’d play a little prank

it was harmless! they’d go about the day as they usually do, and then out of nowhere he’d break into flawless spanish with ale & rudy and have a good long laugh at how stunned they’d be. it all goes according to plan until rudy, clueless, starts positively gushing ab him and his smile and his silly accent right in front of his face. he has no clue what to do other than to act like he has no idea what rudy’s saying, so that’s what he does. it goes on like that for weeks - rudy talking ab his muscles or his eyes and him pretending he wasn’t blushing up to his ears

it comes to a head in the middle of a shootout, they aren’t advancing and the enemy aren’t retreating and they need something big fast. alejandro calls to some stray vaqueros to move their position so soap could throw actual bricks of c4 at them like a madman and light them up from behind his cover. his mistake? he doesn’t wait for ale to relay it to him in english, he just goes and does it once their comrades were clear. there’s a moment of confused (and mortified if you count rodolfo, who was directly to his right) eye contact, then the explosion, then nothing. they corner him when he gets back to base and he’s forced to tell them everything. alejandro laughs and compliments his pronunciation before leaving him and rudy to talk it out.

he ends up with a bruise on his arm from where the older punched him, and a few hickies that poke out from just beneath his shirt collar

notes: i never know what to title these things also i know the formatting is ugly!! i wrote this in my notes app and was too lazy to make it look decent,, <(＿　＿)>

rudy never was one to sleep early, in all honesty he seemed to do the complete opposite. he would always go to bed hours later after you. you never understood why.

it wasn't anything that made you suspicious, he wouldnt go far, most of the time he would still be at home, just outside. it was just odd, but it didnt seem like anything bad?

one night you woke up and there was an unfamiliar emptiness beside you, rudy wasnt there next to you like he was right before you fell asleep

its the middle of the night what else would this guy be doing at 2am??

so you're panicking a bit, you wake up and your boyfriend isnt next to you. sure maybe hes just pissing but you're tired and logic isnt the first thing that comes to mind

you call out for him, your throat a bit dry after you've just woken up and it comes out a bit more panicked than you intended

you sit up, eyes scanning the room looking for him- any sign of him

a sigh of relief leaves your lips, he's there. he's in your bedroom, back turned to you as he gazes upwards, out the window.

as soon as he hears his name his head whips around, why are you panicking?? whats going on?? did something happen? did you have a nightmare? most importantly, are you okay?

but he hears your sigh and you mumble something under your breath. he closes the curtains and walks towards you, gently cupping your cheek

"qué pasa?" "sorry i just- you weren't next to me and i just panicked" "nothing to be sorry for."

his voice is soft, barely above a whisper. he runs his thumb along your cheekbone, holding your cheek so tenderly it feels like you're about to melt

"it's okay. im right here."

"what were you doing?" you ask him, its about damn time he tells you anyways and you're getting curious about his strange nighttime habit "you'll find out tomorrow. its better if its a surprise." he kisses your forehead and climbs back into bed with you. "what if i dont want it to be a surprise?" "well thats not up to you. now go to sleep, cariño"

one his arms snake around your waist, the other making its way under your head, like a pillow but better

the next night, as soon as it gets dark he finally lets you in on his not so secret secret.

he grabs your hand, your fingers intertwining with his and leads you outside to a picnic blanket

"its a bit late for a picnic." you say with a yawn

he rolls his eyes as he walks over to the blanket, lying down flat on his back. you do the same, curious to what his next move was.

"stop looking at me and look up" he says with a chuckle

you listen to him and look up, hundreds of stars scattered in the distant sky. its calm, the sounds of the crickets chirping, his hand in yours, your back flat against the picnic blanket, its so serene you almost forget to breathe

"i used to do this all the time when i was younger." rudy says, breaking the silence "i would set up a mat outside and me and alejandro would lie there for hours until my mamá would yell at us to come back inside"

you look over at him, just for a second and catch him smiling as he reminisces

"i like to look at the stars when i get overwhelmed. reminds me i how small i am in the universe" "thats a bit melancholic, dont you think? the idea that we're so much smaller than the universe. like we dont matter as much as we think" you say, "i dont think of it like that. its like the world is bigger than my problems, it continues and theres so much more than just my troubles." he replies, eyes fixated on the stars "well when you put it that way, it sounds pretty nice"

the next few minutes are spent with rudy teaching you some basic constellations like the big and small dipper and then moves onto the more complex ones like ursa minor, andromeda and orion.

each constellation he points out comes with a story, as great as they look you cant help but watch him as he tells you all about them. its something he loves so deeply, you can tell from the way the corners of his mouth turn upwards as he describes them to you, the look of amazement in his eyes even though he's seen the stars hundreds of times. you cant help but fall more for him with every word he says

"i wish we met earlier. before when i was younger you could see so much more than just ...this. i wish i could've shown it to you" his tone becomes slightly bittersweet.

you don't exactly know what to say, you just wrap an arm around his torso, you mutter a soft "i know" right before you press a kiss to his cheek

the next time you two go stargazing its when you go camping together, although sure its not just in your backyard its as close as you can get with just enough clarity in the sky to see everything rudy wanted to show you :]

Definitely has a lot of Latin-American music on his playlist.

Probs has country music as well but prefers music without lyrics

Has lot of slow music so he can play if while cooking with his partners and dance with you or Rudy in the kitchen while they food simmers or burns

The three of you would end up laughing and order something off of DoorDash instead.

He will listen to what you sent him but he’s secretly glad he has Spotify Premium because he’s skipping the songs he doesn’t like.

Rudy

Mostly country and Latin rap

He doesn’t listen to much so he isn’t sure what to send you so he just asks you what music you like and send you a playlist made for you.

He treasures the playlist you sent him but he apologizes for not listening to it.

Laswell

This woman listens to Mitski and Girl in Red and you can’t change my mind.

You will find a fair share of classical music and maybe a bit of Jazz music in her playlists.

She listens to soft music that you’d play when it’s raining or you’re studying

She definitely helps you with your homework (she calls you kiddo as a nickname)

She would smile as her wife, Anne, brings you guys fresh tea and cookies. (That woman is so sweet and make it obvious how Kate fell in love with her)

She’ll look through your playlist and smile at the songs she knows.

Horangi

Despite popular belief he does not listen to K-pop.

He actually prefers lo-fi hip hop

He has a playlist he listens to when he is getting set for missions.

He will listen to your music and save the ones he likes in a playlist with a picture of you as the cover.

Very soft boi and will sleep to his music while cuddling you

Lots of rock and rave music

He uses music as a way to help with his anxiety with his earbuds in when in crowds.

He has a few soft songs and when they come on this man will look at you with a dopey smile before asking you to dance.

It’s awkward at first but you guys eventually get it even if the song had ended and you were just dancing to whatever was playing now.

He tries to be gentle with you but he isn’t awkward about it.

If you send him music he saves the playlist and listens to it on deployment when he can’t sleep.
