you had been staring at the roof of your marui for about 20 minutes now. you were dreading getting up. you've felt like this for the past few months but couldn't pinpoint exactly when it started. being the youngest daughter of tonowari and ronal is like asking every boy in the clan to court you. when you chose rotxo, all the boys in the clan were heartbroken. you and tsireya found it kinda funny, to be honest.
you and rotxo have been dating for about half a year now. everything leading up to the relationship had been amazing. the fleeting glances, soft touches, the surprise dates. he had courted you perfectly, so he was over the moon when you finally said yes. his loving actions continued three months into the relationship. then suddenly, you started to notice a shift in his behaviors.
he wouldn't surprise you with dates anymore, he only hung out with ao'nung and his friends, he wouldn't make time for you, and when you did ask to spend time with him, he would brush you off, saying he was busy.
of course, your siblings didn't know about this. rotxo told you not to tell them. "i mean, what would ao'nung think of me? he would never want to be friends with me again," he told you. you sighed, "you're right, rotxo. i'm sorry. i won't say anything." rotxo pulled you into a hug, holding your head to his chest so you couldn't see the smirk he held on his face. on the other hand, you held an expression of self-doubt. like you knew the choice to not speak up was dumb, and you wished you could take your words back, but you couldn't bring yourself to do it.
so you remained in rotxo's arms day after day, putting on a show that everyone believed. never saying anything to anyone. never saying anything about all the harsh words rotxo would say to you, about the loneliness you felt, or about the scars he left on your heart.
tsireya, your twin sister, suspected something was off about your relationship because of how differently you had been acting recently. ever since rotxo started treating you poorly, tsireya would hear you cry yourself to sleep every night. still, when she confronted you about it, you would brush her off, saying she was probably hearing things from how tired she had been. and the thing is, nobody else seems to hear it, so it's not like tsireya can have someone to back her up.
you finally gathered the energy to get up, 2 hours later than you were supposed to, and you groaned, knowing your father was going to kill you. you quickly get dressed, rushing to find someone, anyone who can tell you where your father is. finally, you see a huge crowd, what looks like the entire clan, gathered at the shores of the beaches.
"uturu has been asked.." you heard faintly. as you made your way to the front of the crowd, where you heard your father's voice, you caught the tail end of the conversation. "toruk makto and his family will live among us. my children will teach your children the ways of the water so that your family does not suffer the burden of being useless." you hid behind your father. as he spoke, you looked over to who he was talking to.
a group of 6 darker-toned na'vi were standing huddled together. 2 parents and 4 children. you analyzed each child, still hiding behind your father. the smallest, youngest na'vi was holding her mother's hand, hiding behind her leg, similar to how you're hiding behind your father. the older female, who looked about your age, had an annoyed look on her face. you giggled at her expression, being able to tell that she wanted to be anywhere but here.
then you looked at the taller, assumingly older brother. he looked tight-laced, like he was the perfect child. a golden boy, if you would. not really your type but eh, who are you to say anything. you have a boyfriend, for crying out loud. you shouldn't even be thinking things like this in the first place. you rolled your eyes, ignoring the annoying thoughts in your head, as you looked at the other boy standing next to the eldest son.
that's when you noticed the eyes that were staring back at you. they were the prettiest amber color you've ever seen, accented by… is that hair above his eyes? his eyes glowed in the sun, and his markings? don't even start; his markings running along his body were mesmerizing. but the one thing that interested you was the look he held in his eyes. nobody had ever looked at you like that, and of course, that makes it harder to pinpoint precisely what makes you feel this way. while you were entranced in the visitor's eyes, you failed to notice your own boyfriend noticing you. once the clan's people started to disperse, your sister grabbed your hand and dragged you over to the new family.
rotxo was going to approach you, but he was stopped by ao'nung, who nodded his head back to the water, where they would later meet you, tsireya, and those 'freaks' for lessons. ao'nung missed the furious expression his best friend held. rotxo was quick to fix his face, though, playing nice. he saw the looks between you and that forest boy, and he was not happy about it. he decided to observe from afar before confronting you about anything, not wanting youîu to know that he noticed anything.
as you and tsireya approached the family, you got to take a closer look at the boy before you. your thoughts, though, were interrupted by your twin, "let us show you to your new home," as she and you guided the new family to their home, you could tell their father was trying to stay positive, but the way their mother dropped her belongings when she saw where they would be living was comedic to you. you couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction, not maliciously, of course. you're not like your brother ao'nung and boyfriend rotxo.
"sister, i was late to the gathering. i have no idea who these people are or what's happening." you whispered to your twin. "oh right! where were you, by the way? i had to go through ilu training with the boys alone! it was horrible." she groaned. you sighed. yeah, you're definitely gonna get your ass beat when you get home. "father didn't happen to notice, did he?" you said, already knowing the answer. tsireya just laughed "skxawng." she said, hitting your shoulder. "hey!" you said defensively, ready to hit her back until a hand caught yours. you turned around to see one of the new na'vi boys. it was the younger one.
"as amusing it is to see two sisters-" he started
"twins," you and tsireya corrected at the same time. it freaked both boys out, but they thought it was cute in a way.
"as amusing as it is to see twins bickering with one another, i believe a lesson is in our near future? per request of your father, that is." the tone he used was teasing. how could he speak to you with such confidence when he didn't even know your name? rotxo had never spoken to you like that. his words were always soft, almost shy as if he didn't want to scare you with how loud you knew he could be. for some reason, though, it made you like rotxo more.
but with how things have been going well recently, rotxo isn't that soft-spoken boy anymore. hell, he barely acts like your boyfriend now. so maybe it won't be wrong to get to know someone new? only as a friend, though. you would never dream of cheating, let alone act on it.
you looked down to see that the younger brother, whose name you still had yet to find out, was still holding onto your wrist, waiting for an answer.
oh shit, he's waiting on an answer.
you had zoned out, daydreaming about the boy who was gazing at you equally as curious. thankfully you guys had an energetic little girl to catch your attention. "LAST ONE TO THE WATER IS THANATOR BAIT," she said as she jumped into the water.
you and your sister giggled at the young girl's actions, deciding to jump right in after her. the remaining na'vi jumped in as well as you and tsireya swam, guiding them to where you would have this supposed lesson. as you and your twin swam, she explained everything that had happened while you were sleeping using your clan's sign language. it was making more sense now. this family fled their home, seeking a safe place to stay… uturu…
as you had gotten to the rocks by the beach, you noticed that your brother was there, which could only mean one thing. rotxo was here, too, great. you didn't really feel like pretending to be happy with him around people right now, but you slapped on your usual fake smile, praying to eywa that these newcomers were as easy to fool as everyone else on this island.
you had begun your lessons as usual, you and tsireya being paired up with the youngest son as he was having the most difficulty.
"breathe in. breathe from down here," tsireya said as she placed her hand on lo'ak's stomach. you placed your hand on his heart to check its speed as you continued, "breathe out." you sighed again. "lo'ak, your heartbeat is fast," you said, looking up at him, happy that you had learned his name because now you could address him by his name.
"sorry," he said,
"try to focus," tsireya added, his eyes meeting hers as she spoke. you noticed that when his eyes shifted, his expression remained the same bright, curious look he gave you; he also held with your sister.
maybe that's just how he looks at people, you thought as you continued to help him.
you felt eyes on your back, knowing it was rotxo staring at you. you looked over your shoulder and made eye contact with your boyfriend, smiling and waving at him, getting nothing but a stone-cold look in return. nobody seemed to notice, so the embarrassment was yours alone. or so you thought until you turned back to lo'ak, seeing as he had seen the whole interaction between the two of you. nobody had ever noticed something like this happen. you tried to read the forest boy's expression but couldn't. all you knew was that he didn't have that same bright look in his eyes as he looked at rotxo.
so maybe he doesn't look at everyone like that…
the exchange sent a shiver up your back. you had a feeling nothing good would come of these two interacting, but over the months, rotxo had diminished your self-confidence, finding yourself seriously doubting your judgment. so you ignored the feeling, not thinking it would be worth risking the normalcy in your daily life.
with lessons finally ending, you excused yourself from the rest as you walked back to your marui, knowing that your parents were about to beat your ass. you walked into your home with your ears flat against your head, tail between your legs, and head hung in shame.
"y/n te ronal'ite," your mother sneered.
oh yeah. you're fucked.
"father, mother, i am sorry i do not know why i overslept this morning–"
"this is the fifth time this has happened, child. you do not know why you have overslept five times this month?" your mothers' words were harsh; you knew she was very upset with you because of how you had been acting recently. you also knew she didn't like your relationship with rotxo, no matter how nice she thought the boy was. to her, something was just off, she could hear eywa whispering to her about it at night, but when she awoke in the morning, it became nothing but a second thought as all her tsahik duties became a priority as she started her day.
"mother, i am sorry. i do not know why this is happening, but i promise it won't happen again," you said, falling to your knees and begging your parents for forgiveness. you hated when they were upset with you, from when you were a kid until now—especially your father.
you were a daddy's girl; you couldn't help it. your father was your safe haven, and you hated when he was disappointed in you even more than you hated when your mother was mad at you. so when you looked into his eyes and saw concern and not disappointment, you knew something was wrong.
"ma y/n, what is the matter? ite, if something is wrong, you know you can tell me." your father tried.
this was the one thing you couldn't confide in your father for. usually, you have little to no trouble telling your father what's wrong, but this was different. you couldn't bring yourself to tell him. so you just looked up at your father, tears in your eyes, and said
"nothing is wrong, father. i have no excuse for waking up late, so please issue my punishment. i have to finish my chores for the day," hearing your voice so cold sent a shiver up your parents' backs. that was what made them realize there really is something wrong. no matter how much you deny it, they can finally see past the facade that you've been keeping up.
how have they never noticed? how long has this been going on?
ronal looked at her husband, silently asking him for help. for once, the tsahik didn't know what to do. as attuned to eywa as she was, the great mother can't outright tell her what is wrong or how to solve it, thus leaving ronal feeling hopeless.
useless.
a tsahik who can't even help her own child. what good is she?
tonowari cleared his throat, drawing attention to himself.
"two weeks, ilu keeper. you are to bring and return the villager's ilus as well as headcount the north, south, east, and west pens before the eclipse to ensure all ilus are accounted for. you are dismissed," your father's tone was equally as cold as yours. you knew the game he was playing, and you wouldn't fall for it this time. you knew your father was just trying to reciprocate the attitude you were giving him so you would crack. so you quickly left your home, knowing that if you stayed any longer, you would burst into tears and beg your father to hold you in his arms.
your depression had continued for months after the day of the sullys arrival. things with rotxo had only gotten worse, and to you, it seemed like nobody was noticing your depleting health. but in reality, everyone knew you were sad, but nobody knew why.
except for one person
you were so grateful for lo'ak. he was the only person who noticed. he saw everything and sat you down, saying you couldn't endure this abusive relationship anymore. he saw all the scowls and rolled eyes your boyfriend sent your way when you were looking and when you weren't looking. he also saw stuff that you hadn't seen. like rotxo entertaining different girls throughout the village. all of those girls being the ones who you said were your very good friends, but more specifically, it was your best friend.
you and your sully boy were walking along the shore, deciding to go for a walk after he had returned from his daily chores. the walk was silent, but you noticed the furrowed eyebrows above lo'ak's eyes, indicating that he was thinking.
"if you think too hard, you may end up hurting yourself, forest boy," you teased, giggling at his reaction. the boy had rolled his eyes, relieving his eyebrow of their stress as he nudged your side with his elbow. "hey, watch it," he said, laughing along with you.
then he got serious again, you noticed the stress return to his eyebrows, and you couldn't help but stop walking, concerned for your friend.
"lo'ak, what is the matter?" you asked, voice quiet, almost a whisper. lo'ak had barely heard it over the sounds of the tide washing up against the shore. he was silent for a while, debating on if this was his place to say anything, but the boy was worried for you so he spoke up.
"as your friend, y/n, i cannot allow you to continue to be in this relationship." his words were firm. you knew this was coming, and you were hoping you could avoid it, but in the end, it seemed inevitable. you sighed, exhausted, dropping your facade.
"lo'ak, please. don't say anything to anyone. i am fine, okay? rotxo is just busy, is all–"
"yeah, busy suckin' face with your so-called friends, y/n," lo'ak huffed, tired of seeing you endure this treatment. you perked up at his words, though. what was he talking about?
"what do you mean?" you said as you stepped closer, wanting to look deeper into his eyes to ensure he wasn't lying.
"your boy has been cheating on you with all the girls you call your 'friends', especially your best friend. whenever he says he's busy with ao'nung and the guys, neteyam tells me he sneaks off halfway through. and i've personally caught him with so many girls y/n. he's been cheating on you." the words echo in your head.
cheating?
with your friends?
your boyfriend…
your boyfriend.
a new feeling had blossomed in your chest. it felt like a raging fire in your chest, out of control and blazing with heat. oh, you were pissed. so lo'ak hatched a plan for you.
"take this," he said as he reached up to his neck, taking off his communicator and giving it to you. "wear it tomorrow. and right before eclipse, i want you to go to the west ilu pen. but be quiet when you get there. that's usually where rotxo meets your best friend." the words squeezed at your heart, but the fury in your chest overpowered it all.
"fine," you said as your eyes met his once again. you moved your hair behind over your left shoulder as you turned around, signaling for him to put the communicator on for you.
once it was secure, you turned to face him again, knowing that this would be the last moment of peace you would have until the storm you had been so severely trying to avoid.
"thank you," was the last thing you said to the forest boy before you made your way home. knowing the next day would be one of the worst days of your life.
it was a few minutes til eclipse, and you were waiting in a hidden spot near the west ilu pen just like lo'ak had told you. you had been waiting here for 15 minutes, and neither rotxo nor your best friend had shown up. did lo'ak lie? what reason would he have to lie? it's not like he likes you. lo'ak always uses phrases like "as your friend…" and "friends don't treat friends like that," insinuating that he, too, thought of you as a friend and nothing more, so what reason would he have to lie. you were about to radio him, pressing the button on your neck, because you were getting annoyed waiting here for so long. but then you heard a familiar laugh.
that's your best friend's laugh.
you turned around, peeking through leaves to see rotxo and your best friend holding hands, laughing with one another. keeping your hand against your communicator, you tried to get as close as possible without revealing your hiding spot so that lo'ak could hear everything happening.
"are you sure this is okay, rotxo? what about y/n? you know she's my best friend." your best friends laughter had died down as the two came to a halt.
"ma yawne, you need not worry." your boyfriend reassured.
"but what about her? you guys are in a relationship, and she is olo'eyktans daughter. if we get caught, we're done for. plus, she's been looking so sad recently. i can't help but feel like she knows." tears sprung to her eyes and you couldn't help but roll your own.
"mawey, my love. she does not know. besides, she has been ignoring me recently. i've been left alone, wondering if she's okay. i ask her every day to talk to me and tell me something; i reassure her that i'm here for her and that she can talk to me about anything. she brushes me off, not even giving me the time of day. it is like she has completely shut me out. i feel so left in the dark," your best friend just coos at the boy, pulling into a hug in an attempt to 'hug' him when she really is just trying to push her boobs against his chest. his hand placement wasn't any better. he had his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer to himself if even possible.
OH, BOO FUCKING HOO, IS HE FUCKING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW??
it was taking every molecule of self-restraint in your body not to blow your cover and strangle the man you call your "boyfriend." upon hearing his words, you could only scoff. this is what he's been doing? while he's been ignoring you, leaving you lonely and hurting, he's been out in the village, cheating on you and playing victim, making everyone think you were ignoring him.
you could only roll your eyes as you walked away before you were discovered. you were furious. you knew exactly how you wanted to approach this, thinking based only on your heated emotions, throwing all rational away. as you walked away, your hand fell from the collar around your neck, knowing lo'ak had heard enough. he was probably on the way to your parents' marui right now to tell them everything.
you walked to rotxo's family marui; glad to see the rest of his family is still out doing whatever they do. you could care less. he and anyone related to him could perish, poof into thin air, never to be seen again, and you wouldn't bat an eye. in fact, just the idea of it brings a smile to your face. a smile that instantly dropped when the flap of the marui was pushed aside, revealing your boyfriend and your brother.
"ao'nung, leave. i need to talk to rotxo," you said as soon as you made eye contact with your older brother. you knew he was clueless about what had happened because he was hanging out with his friends all day. supposedly, so was rotxo.
"sorry little sister, but you're going to have to leave. rotxo and i are–"
"AO' GET THE FUCK OUT!" you screamed at your brother, eyes falling to the floor, knowing he wasn't the target of rage, so you probably shouldn't be treating him like this.
your brother was surprised you raised your voice at him but listened anyway, knowing that this wasn't his problem and he honestly didn't care about your relationship as long as rotxo treated you right. and to his knowledge, his best friend is treating you right. rotxo, you told your brother that it was you shutting him out, so ao'nung just assumed this would be another one of those 'irrational arguments' that rotxo always tells him about.
watching your brothers back retreating toward your home, you turned your attention to the man of the fucking hour.
"my best friend? are you serious right now, rotxo?" you asked him to get straight to the point.
rotxo rolled his eyes, groaning because he realized you knew he was cheating on you.
"y/n, don't be like this. my family will be home any minute–" you cut him off.
"i do not care. you are walking around telling people i shut you out? cheating on me? you are out here forcing me to put on a smile, fake happy, so your reputation doesn't get ruined, and you have the nerve to try and bring mine down with you? saying i'm leaving you in the dark. making yourself seem like the goddamn victim?! you're cheating on me, rotxo. FOR FUCKS SAKE." the english word that the sully children had taught you felt like the only word that could adequately convey your feelings.
"using the words that sully boy taught you, huh? you know you've been spending a lot of time with him. you're lucky the only rumor i spread was that you left me in the dark. be grateful that i'm not telling everyone how you've been spreading your legs for that freak." you gaped at his words. how did he know about how much you've been spending with lo'ak? of course, he's completely wrong about what you guys do but he's always busy with his friends, blowing you off, cheating, and not caring who you're with or what you're doing. regardless of how he knew or not, you and lo'ak were friends, and that's it.
"we are just friends. i would not even have to hang out with him if my own shitty boyfriend actually acted as if he fucking likes me. we hang out as all young na'vi do, free diving, ilu racing, sea shell collecting. things i've done with you, my siblings, and countless other friends, like the bitch you are cheating on me with, so why is it a problem when i do it with lo'ak? hmm, rotxo? what's your fucking problem? are you projecting? is that it?" you were blinded by your rage, not even realizing that you had approached your boyfriend, but it felt like your words weren't getting through to him. he still held this shitty condescending smirk on his face, and you were sick of it. so you pushed him with all the strength you had in your body. rotxo fell to the floor pretty hard, groaning in pain as he landed funny on his wrist.
"ah! ha–" rotxo graoned in pain as he gripped his wrist. his gaze met yours as he spoke again "look, she's finally snapped. what? are you going to go, run to your little demon blood? are you going to let him cheer you up like the little slut you are? might as well prepare yourself for tomorrow because when ao'nung asks me what we argued about, i'm telling him i found out you were cheating on me with that sully boy," rotxo stood from his place on the floor, holding a look you had never seen on him before. he walked towards you menacingly as you matched his pace, walking backward until your back made contact with the wall of his home. his hand came up to your neck, squeezing, not noticing that he had once again pressed the button on your collar so lo'ak could hear everything.
“y/n? what's wrong? what's going on?" you heard his voice in your earpiece but kept quiet, not wanting rotxo to know he was about to get caught.
"you're so easy, huh? playing hard to get for everyone in the village when really you just wanted to be a whore for a half-breed freak who has only brought problems and war to our home–" you pushed him off of you, running out his marui with your head down, not wanting him to see your tears as if he hadn't already.
as cruel as rotxo had been to you, he had never called you such degrading names like this.
as angry as you were, hearing someone you once loved say things like that to you felt like a bullet to the heart.
you ran to a hidden oasis within the forest line of awa'atlu. only you and rotxo knew of it, but recently you've found yourself coming here alone much more than you would come here with him.
falling to your knees in front of the river before you, you allowed the dam to break, letting all your pent-up emotions out. you couldn't help but cry to yourself. you hated life like this. you hated living a lie, not wanting to bare this pain anymore. you cried, sobbed, screamed, wailed, anything to get this hurt out of your heart.
rotxo had broken you. he had taken your pure, innocent heart and smashed it to pieces. no matter how much you tried to love and care for him, you realize he would never really love you. it was all just a ploy to get in with the olo'eyktan's daughter. he was just like every other stupid boy on this island. but you fell for him, and you hated the feeling.
and for him to cheat with your best friend, of all people? how could he? did he even love you?
to say lo'ak was worried was the understatement of the fucking year. he was basically having a panic attack rampaging the island after he didn't find you in rotxo's marui when they arrived. lo'ak had come with his family and yours, everyone having heard the cruel words that rotxo had spat at you thanks to lo'aks communication device.
jake and neteyam personally held lo'ak back from killing the metkayina in front of him.
"YOU FUCKER! YOU CALL HER A WHORE WHEN YOU'RE THE ONE STICKING YOUR DICK IN ANYTHING THAT HAS A FUCKING HOLE, YOU PUSSY–"
"lo'ak, that's enough," jake said, trying to restrain his youngest son.
"NO, HE'S RIGHT! DAD, LET ME GO! LET ME BEAT HIS ASS!" lo'ak looked over to see tonowari and another warrior holding ao'nung back, but the look on tonowari's face showed that he was seconds from ripping rotxo limb from limb for what he had said to his daughter.
that's when lo'ak noticed you weren't in the marui. pulling himself from his father and brother's restraints, he ran out, immediately going to all your favorite places on the island, trying to find you.
he searched the shallow reefs on the east side of the island. he visited the ilu pen on the south part of the island because that's where you kept your ilu. he checked the floral shoreline on the northwest part of the island, knowing that you loved getting all your flowers from there, whether it was for your hair, a top, or a gift for the new boy on the island.
lo'ak noticed a forest line near the floral shores, so he also decided to check within that area in case you were wandering around there.
walking through the forest area kind of reminded lo'ak of home. he had been reminiscing on the flora of his home when he heard what sounded like crying—very loud crying.
immediately arming himself, prepared to protect himself or someone else. lo'ak stepped into the clearing, seeing you kneeling over the stream, fists clenched into the ground beneath you as you let out the most heart-twisting cries he had ever heard.
you were crying so loud you hadn't even heard the forest boy approaching you. feeling arms engulfing you, you began to panic. whoever it was immediately tried to soothe your struggles, and much to your surprise, you listened. you felt warmth, security, and comfort. things you never felt around rotxo, at least, not anymore.
"mawey, y/n. mawey. try to match my breathing," it was a familiar voice, but with all the physical and emotional pain clouding your senses, you couldn't pinpoint who it was. regardless, you tried your best to match his breathing, your heavy breaths slowing to quiet sobs and whimpers. it felt like your heart was really breaking. this realization was painful. rotxo didn't love you. he was using you.
you just wanted to be loved, and rotxo made you feel that way for a while. but that was the problem; it only lasted a while. then everything went to shit, and you were left cold and alone while rotxo was out cheating on you and forcing you to fake a smile for everyone around you so that you wouldn't ruin his reputation.
your cries had died down, and you were resting within the hold of the person behind you. his hushed words of comfort hadn't stopped, praising you for controlling your breath as he soothingly rubbed your shoulders. when you calmed down enough, you turned to look at the source of your comfort. it was honestly one of the last people you expected it to be.
you would've thought your brother or sister would find this secret spot before the forest boy did.
"lo'ak, what are you doing here?" you asked him, trying to escape his grasp and wipe your tears at the same time. lo'ak was quick to grab hold of your hands, preventing you from moving away from him.
"mawey, y/n. just relax. i'm here for you, and you can cry all you want to, sevin. i am not going anywhere." his voice was so comforting as he pulled you back into his embrace. you just sighed as you felt another wave of tears coming to your eyes. so you cried it out, relieving every sob, scream, and cry you had ever kept in, and lo'ak stayed with you through it all. never once letting you go and never stopping his whispers of reassurance.
when your sobs died down again, you noticed he intertwined his fingers with yours. you hadn't noticed his hands before. you weren't aware, but your ears perked up a bit, and your tail started to rev to life a bit when you saw he had five fingers instead of four. you wordlessly detangled your hand from his, causing the boy's ears to fall flat to his head.
you noticed his hands. did you see him differently now? his thoughts started as a drizzle quickly forming into a hurricane, but when he felt both of your hands grab one of his pulling it closer to your swollen eyes so you could examine it better, he chuckled. he thought it was cute, seeing you fiddle with his fingers as your soft sniffles continued. if this was distraction enough to keep you from crying, then lo'ak would let you play with his hands 24/7.
you didn't know that lo'ak's hands were his biggest insecurity, so the way you played with them and looked at them with wonder and not worry made his heart swell. lo'ak had not thought his life would be turned upside down like this, being forced to move away from his home and learn new ways of life. he hated it. but willingly getting to know someone and maybe even starting to fall for her had to be the best thing on that list. lo'ak knew he liked you for a while but never made any advances as you were taken. even though he could've been treating you so much better.
he loved how your hands felt in his and how your smile brightened up an entire room. he loved how attuned to nature you were. you hadn't even realized the school of fish swimming around your ankles rested in the river before you. it was as if the animals were trying to comfort you, too, somehow being able to sense your distress.
“y/n. do not listen to him. he is nothing but a lowlife who derives pleasure from others' pain," lo'ak started ranting, not caring if you were listening. he just wanted to speak his mind. "you are beautiful, y/n. the most beautiful, strong, loving, kind, graceful na'vi i've ever had the chance to meet. if moving away from my home means i get to find a new home here, with you, i would fly, walk, jump, or crawl my way here a hundred times over. i would do anything to be with you properly. i want to heal you from that asshole's mistakes. i want to show you what it feels like to be loved. not because you are olo'eyktan's daughter. but because you are you."
his eyes remained focused on yours as he recited every word. but you could tell he wasn't speaking something memorized or forced; he was speaking from his heart. you could hear it, as if eywa herself was whispering it to you. but you were hurt. could you trust someone so soon?
almost as if he could read your thoughts, he spoke up again.
"i know your trust is weary right now, but let me prove it to you. i will court you properly, meet your parents officially, ask for their blessing, i–" lo'ak sighed, almost as if he didn't want to continue, but he did. "i'll even stop fighting with ao'nung." that got a laugh out of you.
"lo'ak, are you sure about that?" you asked, looking up at him through your tears, flashing the first genuine smile he had ever seen on you. he was amazed. if he thought your fake smile lit up a room, then your genuine smile could bring light to an entire clan.
"i would do whatever you want me to do, syulang. i just want to be with you. i want to love you if you'll have me. we can take things at your pace. i'm in no rush because, for you, i would wait forever," he yearned for you, waiting patiently to see if you'll accept him.
you couldn't find any reason not to. this boy had to have been sent to you by eywa. he was meant to be the remedy to heal your heart after this tragic breakup. you were crying, but they were tears of joy and relief. you were finally free. free to feel love. free to feel happy. free to be you.
in the heat of the moment, you felt something wiggling under the ground beneath your leg. looking down, you see a glow worm inching up your leg. most do not know, but since the metkayina spirit tree is underwater, these little glow worms come up from the sand or appear on or around you whenever eywa tries to give you a sign. they're the metkayina equivalent of a woodsprite.
you could only gasp at the sight of the tiny creature. so he really is eywa sent? you thought as you saw a glow worm crawling up lo'ak's shoulder. this caused you to laugh, seeing as he also noticed the glow worm on his shoulder and started to panic, trying to flick the bug off his shoulder without hurting it.
"kehe, don't do that," you said as you grabbed his hand to prevent him from hurting the poor thing. you carefully placed your hand in front of the glowworm, allowing it to crawl into your palm. you took lo'ak's hand in yours, facing his palm up to allow the glow worm to walk from your hand to his.
"what is this?" he asked as he brought his hand closer to his face turning it as the glow worm walked around.
"i've heard about omatikaya woodsprites from kiri. they are like that but for the reefs. they are sent from eywa, meant to be wordless messengers," you explained to the forest boy.
your forest boy.
lo'ak couldn't help but smile at you, processing the words you had said. as he spoke again, he held nothing but love in his eyes, "y/n, i see you. oel ngati kameie," he gently held your face in his hands to ensure you made eye contact with him as he said it to you. you cried even harder because rotxo had never said that to you. and you're glad he didn't because you wouldn't have been able to say this back,
"oel ngati kameie, forest boy."

ALWAYS BEEN YOU !
a/n — i swear i will finish requests but i'm having a rotxo brain rot
—
You were always close with Tsireya and Ao'nung, so naturally, that meant you were childhood friends with Rotxo. You grew up first hand experiencing his kindness, his sweet smiles. You spent so much time with the boy, he was one of your closest friends.
Considering the amount of time you spent together with him, you were surprised he never picked up on your clear interest in him. Even Tsireya and your own parents had known for the longest time. You'd liked Rotxo before you fully understood what it meant to hold romantic feelings for someone, and yet, you never did anything about it.
You were only a year younger than the boy, but naturally, you two had different friend groups. Of course, you'd still see him whenever you would hang out with Tsireya and her brother, but outside of that, you never bothered to come up to him with other friends. At first you were too scared to, but as you grew up, you just started to care less for most of his friends.
So as you sat with Tsireya on the beach, only half paying attention to what she was saying (something about Lo'ak, if you were to guess) and admiring Rotxo with his friends, Tsireya lightly slapped your thigh, making you jump. "What was that for?"
"You weren't even listening, were you?" She narrowed her eyes at you, following where you were looking. At the sight of the curly haired boy, she smacked her forehead, giggling.
"No! I was!" You lied, averting your gaze and turning your attention back to your friend. At the sight of her tilting her head, you shrugged nonchalantly, flashing a grin. "Lo'ak?"
She shoved you with a laugh, shaking her head. "Whatever, it's too hard to get your attention when a certain someone is around." Tsireya teased, her laughs increasing when you blushed at the mention of the boy.
"Oh hush. I wasn't staring at him, I was...admiring the waves." You nodded, Tsireya clearly not believing you.
"Why don't you just tell him how you feel, y/n? You've felt like this for years, he should know at some point."
You sighed, quickly glancing back over at Rotxo. "Reya, we've been friends since forever. And I've liked him since before I even knew how to ride an ilu. How would I even tell him that? And imagine he doesn't feel the same. I could never be able to face him again."
"Face who again?" A voice suddenly pitched in, a pair of wet arms wrapping around your shoulders. Recognizing who it was your eyes widened, Tsireya containing her laughter from across from you.
"No one!" You squeaked, happy you weren't facing Rotxo at the moment. Your heartbeat quickly sped up once you realized how he was holding you, your face practically purple.
"Okay..." he wearily responded, grabbing ahold of your hands (was he trying to send you into cardiac arrest?) and dragging you up. "Cmon, guys, don't be such bummers. Come swim with us!"
Of course, you accepted his invitation and Tsireya followed, as you joined her brother and the others to the waves.
After you had hung out with Rotxo, you'd taken Tsireya's words to heart. She was right, in a way. You would need to tell Rotxo how you felt eventually, especially if you wanted it to go somewhere. You all were getting older, and soon enough he would be looking for potential mates. You heart pained at the thought of him being with someone else who wasn't you, considering how long you'd spent loving him.
You were walked aimlessly around when you stumbled upon Kiri, both of you exchanging surprised looks. The two of you never really talked, considering you spent a lot of time with Ao'nung, and you knew how Kiri wasn't very fond of him. You waved awkwardly, greeting the girl. "Hi."
"Hi." She shyly replied, avoiding your gaze. Truth be told, you wanted to get closer to the Sully siblings, but you never really knew if they wanted your company or not, being friends with Ao'nung and all.
"Um-" you hesitated, looking around. "What were you doing around here?"
"Just, looking around and sorts. It's very beautiful here."
You smiled, nodding in agreement. "It really is. Do you miss the forest?"
In your attempt to continue the conversation, Kiri decided you were different than some of your friends. "I do," she admitted, staring off towards the ocean. "But I do enjoy it here. You have very beautiful creatures."
You sat down a small distance away from her, agreeing. "The ilus are my favorite." You shared, and you two spent the rest of the day asking each other about your clans, and Kiri's previous environment.
It was nice, making a new friend and for once, not worrying about the boy that was always on your mind.
From the interaction you grew closer to Kiri, and with that, her siblings as well. Whenever Tsireya was off with others you hung out with Kiri, or whichever sibling was with her at the time.
So, as you and Kiri made your way towards the reef you saw Ao'nung and Rotxo walking around, Rotxo a slightly nervous expression on his face. You called out to them and they stopped, and they made their way over to you, Ao'nung clearly about to make a comment on Kiri before he was smacked by Rotxo and earned a stern glare from you.
"What are you two skxawngs up to?" You smiled, practically beaming at the sight of your favorite boy.
Hesitating, Rotxo cleared his throat multiple times, putting an awkward hand to the back of his neck. Before he could come up with an answer Ao'nung slung an arm around his friend, grinning. "Well, our parents have talked to us both about how we're getting older and need to be looking for possible mates. So we're scavenging around for some possible girls."
You blinked rapidly, trying to prevent yourself from getting teary eyed. You suddenly grew uncomfortable in the situation, nodding at the words. "Well, that's lovely. Have fun." Knowing you didn't mean those words, Kiri grabbed ahold of your arm, taking you away and mumbling something about having to meet her brothers at the reef.
As he watched the two of you leave, Ao'nung made a look of confusion, not seeing the sullen look on Rotxo's face. "What's up with her?"
You were silent the whole walk, Kiri's siblings immediately noticing your mood once you arrived. Tsireya, who was with Lo'ak, immediately ran up to you, eyes concerned. "What happened?"
When you didn't respond Kiri hesitantly spoke, looking at you carefully. "Well, we saw Ao'nung and Rotxo on our way here," she paused, you and her taking a seat down with everyone else. "And they mentioned how their parents told them they were getting older and mates and such," she paused again, grasping your hand firmly. "And then Ao'nung mentioned how they were on a search for possible mates."
"Oh that skxawng!" Tsireya complained, huffing at her brother's pure stupidity. Lo'ak looked around, obviously confused before he cleared his throat to gain your guys' attention.
"Not to sound stupid or anything, but what exactly is going on?"
Hissing in pain when Kiri slapped her brother you laughed, shaking your head. "It's alright. I've kind of had this thing for Rotxo for the past few years."
"Oh don't be such a liar," Tsireya cut you off. "Y/n has been in love with Rotxo ever since she learned how to swim. She's been pining over him hopelessly for years, and he's stupid and hasn't realized a thing."
So you spent most of the day with the siblings and Tsireya, all of them doing their best to comfort and cheer you up, trying to take your mind off of Rotxo.
You avoided Rotxo the best you could since the situation, and it had been days since the two of you talked. You knew you were bound to run into him one way or another, but you were hoping to delay the inevitable as long as possible.
But of course, luck was never on your side when you spotted Rotxo with a girl. They were talking together and Rotxo seemed like he was having a good time so you tried making your getaway as fast as possible, pretending you didn't hear calls of your name.
"Y/n, hey!" Rotxo panted, grabbing ahold of your arm to stop you in your path. "I feel like I haven't seen you in so long."
You bit the inside of your cheek, trying to figure out what to say. Refusing to admit to anything, you only shrugged. "Sorry, I guess I've just been spending some more time with the Sully's while you were- uhm-" You nodded awkwardly over towards the girl, your heart dropping once you recognized her. Aveyti.
"Oh yes, Aveyti." You practically winced at her name, eyes dropping to look down to the sand. It wasn't necessarily the fact he had found company in another girl, it was that he found company in her. You were never the fondest of Aveyti, as her beauty was misleading from her large ego.
"She seems cool." You muttered, your attention still on the sand between where the two of you stood.
"So you wouldn't mind if I mated with another? With Aveyti?" Rotxo slowly questioned, making your head shoot up.
"Uhm, no." You lied, looking him straight in the eyes. Each word you spoke was like a dagger to your heart, a constant reminder that you were just too late. "I wouldn't. It's not my business, anyways. Aveyti is very beautiful. So if she makes you happy, I think you should go for it."
"Oh," The boy spoke, awkwardly fidgeting with his hands. "Well I'm glad you approve. I should- probably get back," He pointed back over his shoulder, towards Aveyti. "I'll see you around, yeah?"
"Bye." You waved, walking away from Rotxo and to your friends with glossy eyes and a heavy heart.
Rotxo couldn't help but miss you the next couple of weeks. You refused to talk to him since your last encounter, and he couldn't figure out why. Every time he saw you and tried to approach you, you always came up with an excuse, and your responses were always curt. He missed the presence of his friend, and upon asking Tsireya what was happening, was only called a skxawng.
So he was stuck, spending most of his time with either Ao'nung or Aveyti. The girl must have convinced herself that Rotxo had chosen her as his promised mate, so she clung onto him like a leech, not leaving his side. Truth be told, he didn't even like her that much. Their past few conversations he was always detached, his mind on you.
However, eywa seemed to grace Rotxo today, as Aveyti's mother called for her help today, and he could finally confront you about your distance today. He found you with Kiri and Tsireya, calling your name from afar before making his way towards you.
The girls made panicked faces towards you and you shook your head, calming them down. "It's okay, I got this." You reassured, and ushering them away as you turned around to meet the boy.
"Hi, Rotxo."
"Why are you avoiding me?" He didn't bother with a greeting, getting straight to the point.
You winced, averting your gaze from him. "I don't know, I guess I've just been spending a lot of time with other people."
"Y/n," he sternly called your name, taking a step closer to you. "I know when you're lying. Just tell me the truth. Please?"
Thoughts racing, you bit your lip, not seeing a way out of this. "I just- I just don't like Aveyti, I guess."
Scoffing at your answer, Rotxo shook his head. "You told me you thought she seemed nice not too long ago!"
"Well I lied!" You shouted back, making the boy stumble back. "I lied, okay? I don't like her. I think she's egotistical, I think she's stupid, I think she doesn't care about anyone other than herself. And I don't think she would make a good mate."
"Whatever happened to it 'not being your business', y/n? You sure have a lot to say for someone who claimed you had nothing to do with this."
"I know! I just- I don't think she's good for you. Truthfully."
"Why does it even matter to you?" Rotxo snapped, making you close your eyes shut. You guys always had petty arguments, but it wasn't like this. Never like this. "Hell, I'm not even dating you. So why does it matter so much?"
"You think I don't know that?"
"Then what is your problem?!"
"YOU!" You finally confessed, feeling like your heart was being ripped out of your chest. "You are my problem, Rotxo. My problem is that I have been hopelessly pining over you, but I'm a coward and you're just oblivious. So I'm sorry for no-"
Your rant was cut short when Rotxo grabbed you, tugging you closer to him and pressed his lips to yours, shutting you up. He kissed you feverishly, hands roaming your body. He pecked your lips a few times before pulling away, his forehead resting against yours. "Do you know how long I've been waiting to hear the words?"
Dumbstruck, you gaped at the boy, smile wide as your hand cupped his cheek gently, "You really mean that?"
He nodded, pressing a kiss to the tip of your nose. "It's you, y/n. It's always been you."

As you and Rotxo were eating lunch he began telling you his plans for the day, "Aonung and I are going hunting in the jungle today" he said as he ate his grilled fish. He's been anticipating on going hunting in the jungle for a while now. "You seem excited!" you say as you look at the wide smile on his face "I am! I've been trying to convince Aonung to come with me for a while and he finally agreed" As both of you continue to talk he begins to ask you about your plans.
"I'm going to the training hall today. Tonowari asked me to come help train some of the young warriors" You tell him before you take a sip of your drink. "Is Amika going to be there?" He asked you with a raised eyebrow "Yeah she is. Why do you ask?" Rotxo just shakes his head while he speaks "Because you know how you two are always at each others throats"
You and Amika have had a combative relationship ever since the two of you became teenagers. You and her always got into arguments about various things and sometimes it got physical. Both of you always knew exactly what to say to make the other tick, you both loved pushing each other's buttons.
Neither of you knew what was the origin of your long-time feud, but both of you knew that you didn't like each other for a reason.
"I know but we haven't argued recently so I think we'll be fine" you say shrugging your shoulders not thinking to much of it. You and her have passed by each other multiple times throughout the village but you never spoke, you just give each other angry glares.
"No I know how you are. If she pushes your buttons you will black out and things will get physical" Rotxo said as he thought about the last altercation you and Amika had.
When you were sitting on the shore, creating a new fish net you heard your name fall from Amika's lips, "I don't know what Rotxo sees in her. When he could have all this" she begins to gesture to her body "He decides to mate with Y/N " she says in a ick tone. You can hear Amika continuously talking about you to her friends which annoys you.
As you try to take the high road and ignore her you can't. You put down your incomplete fish net and walked over to her, "Amika do you have something to say to me because I can hear my name rolling off your tongue every five seconds" you tell her in a snappy tone. Amika begins to laugh right in your face, "Me talk about you? please! I don't even want to hear your name" she tells you and you know she's obviously lying
"Oh so you didn't say how Rotxo could've mated with you and but he instead chose me" you say while mocking her voice and doing the same gestures she did earlier. As Amika's friends watch the two of you argue they began to laugh at how you were making fun of Amika.
"It's true! I don't understand what he sees in a pathetic person like you" she boldly yells which makes you walk closer to her and get in her face "Me Pathetic?! Girl please you really are a skxawng aren't you?!" You say as you begin to laugh "you want to call me pathetic but your the one who came to MY mate's pod crying asking why he didn't chose you AFTER he has declined you many many times" a sly smirk spreads across your face knowing you opened an old wound.
You looked at her friends face expression and see the shocked looks on there faces which told you that they didn't know that happened. "Oh Amika you didn't want to tell your little friends that? Oops my bad" you say sarcastically
Amika balled up her fist and threw a punch toward for face. The punch connected and created a red bruise on your cheek. Once that happened your whole demeanor changed. You swung back and both you began fighting in the sand.
Once people seen both of you fighting they ran over to watch. Warriors came running toward you and pulled you off of her. As they pulled you away from Amika you could see blood dripping down her lips, a red bruise on both of her eyes, and multiple scratches along her body and face. As she sat there crying all you could do was chuckle, you hoped that taught her a lesson to watch her mouth and to not pick a fight with you but knowing Amika you knew that even the worst beating wouldn't get it through her thick skull.
"Rotxo the last fight we had wasn't even that big of a deal" you say waving him off
Rotxo's mouth flew open as he heard you say that, "Not that big a deal?! Amika face was messed up for weeks and she could barely see from how swollen her eyes were!"
"Well she shouldn't have been talking about me, she knows I can get a little crazy" you say with a small smile thinking about how her face contorted every time you threw a punch. ‘Little is a understatement’ Rotxo thought while shaking his head at you before speaking again "Maybe I should come with you and make sure nothing happens" he began contemplating if you could handle being in the same proximity as Amika.
"Rotxo I do not need a babysitter. I know how to control myself" you tell him as you stand up and began grabbing his and your shell plate. "Do you though? Last time the two of you got into an argument it ended in a fight" he began following you throughout the mauri. "Because she started it! She hit me first Rotxo what was I suppose to do let her just hit me?!" You began to raise your voice as your tail starts to swing behind you
"No I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that once she gets under your skin you tend to just act without thinking" Rotxo said in calm voice, trying to not get upset. He knew that if raised his voice like you just did it would only amp you up more so he decided to stay calm.
"I know sometimes I do but it's not my fault! She just, she just... she just makes me so upset!" You say as you begin to rant. "She is always saying something about me or our relationship and it just makes me so mad! She so bitter that she chooses to aggravate me. We've always went back and forth but when she found out we mated it made her more aggressive towards me but it's okay though because she knows I will always be more aggressive" you begin to crack your knuckles thinking about how it would go if you and Amika got into a fight this time around.
You knew that if you ever got into with her again it would get messy and you were prepared for whatever.
Rotxo just sighed hearing your response. "Y/N can you please not fight with her today. I don't want you to get hurt" He walks up to you and you can see his big blue eyes pleading with you
"Okay Rotxo I promise... I won't fight her today..." You mumble out which makes him smile "Good thank you yawne" he gives you a kiss before continuing to help you clean up.
You were going to try your best to control yourself and not let Amika get under your skin. You wanted to keep your word with Rotxo and not disappoint him so you were going to restrain yourself as much as possible.
As your walking to the training hall you can see numerous young warriors sparring with each other. As you watched them it made you think about when you were their age, trying to become the best warrior Awa'atlu had to offer. Once you stepped inside the hall you can see Tonowari walking up to you, "Thank you for coming to help train the young warriors Y/N" he said with a grateful expression
"Oh it's no problem Tonowari I always love coming to help. What do you want me to do first?"
"Can you help them learn how to use a spear. They already know the basics they just need help learning how to use in combat" Tonowari pointed to a group of girls that looked around the ages of fourteen to sixteen. "Of course" you walked over to the group and began to observe them so you could learn their strengths and weaknesses.
As you continued to watch them one of the girls spoke up, "Are you going to be our teaching us?"
"Yes I will be teaching and helping all of you today" you say as a smile spreads across your face. You always loved to come help the young warriors because they were always determined to soak up knowledge and new techniques.
"Wow! We get one of the best warriors to teach us!" One of the girls said which made all the others agree. As you heard them tell each other different stories about your days as a warrior you began to chuckle.
"Okay girls who's ready to start the lesson?!" You ask with enthusiasm laced in your voice
"We are!" They say as they raise their spears in the air
"Good let's get started!" You grab your spear and begin teaching them different techniques
One hour later
The girls have been picking up on techniques very well. You were proud of them for learning so quickly. As you continued practicing with them you could see Amika out the corner of your eye giving you dirty looks, you almost said something to her but instead you just continued helping your group because you didn't want to start anything. Rotxo words asking you to not get into it with Amika rang in your ears so you restrained yourself.
Amika watched you train your group and she was growing upset because your girls were learning faster and better than her group.
As you returned her a dirty look Tonowari walked in the middle of the training hall and began to speak, "I've been watching all of you and you all are doing very well. When it's time to do your iknimaya all of you will officially become warriors!"
All the young warriors raised their spears in the air and began to let out yelps of excitement. Once they began to quite down Tonowari started speaking again.
"I know all of you have been locking in your skills with using a spear but I want all of you to get use to hand to hand combat as well just in case you lose your weapon or something happens. I want you all to see a real fight so are there any experienced warriors who want to set an example?"
"I will but only if Y/N joins me..." Your ears perk up as you hear your name being called. As you looked around to see who it was you instantly rolled your eyes
Amika pointed her spear at you and everyone began to stare at you waiting for your response. You didn't really want to fight her but you couldn't decline her challenge in front of everyone, "I accept" Na'vi began to erupt in quiet whispers as they watch the two of you walk in to the middle of the floor. They knew both of you have a troubled history so everyone was interested in seeing you two fight.
Tonowari raised an eyebrow, as he heard Amika challenge you. He was one of the people who had to pull you off of Amika when you got into your last altercation so he knew what you were capable of.
"Why did you challenge me?" You asked her since you were honestly curious. "Did you really think I would let you get away with what happened before? That I wouldn't come get my revenge? That I would let it slide that you told my friends something personal?" She snarled at you
"If it was so 'personal' you shouldn't have been talking about me" you said while shrugging your shoulders trying to remain as calm as possible "I was just on the same timing as you" you don't feel a ounce of remorse for what you did at all, you felt like she deserved it after talking about you.
As both of you continued talking it was become more and more heated. As Tonowari watched both of you he could see the anger bubbling up inside both of you. "I don't think this is a good idea, I will pick different warriors to show an example" he said not wanting this to go the wrong way
"No no Olo'eyktan it's okay, I'll fight her. She wants to pick a fight with me like she always does so I'll give it to her" you say with a smirk on your face
Tonowari steps back hesitantly and let's both of you fight. What you didn't know is that he sent one of the warriors to the jungle to get Rotxo and bring him the training hall. He knew this probably wasn't going to end well so he wanted your mate to come as soon as possible.
You and Amika began circling each other while hissing angrily. Amika is the first to throw a punch and both of you begin to fight. You two have tried to throw shots at each other but both of you block each other's attempts. As the fight continues you make one blow and hit Amika in the shoulder. She groans out in pain but she continues to fight, you make sure to make a small hit but nothing to much to injure her to much.
Amika realizes how concentrated you are so she decides to try and throw you off your game, "Tell Rotxo I miss him" she says with a smirk. You knew she was trying to distract you so you tried to tune her out and focus on the fight.
Amika thought 'throwing you off your game' would make you distracted and vulnerable enough for her to get some hits in so she kept pestering you.
As the fight progressed you threw a punch at her but she dodged it and threw a harder punch at you.
"Shit..." you mumble out as you bend over slightly and hold your stomach. Amika watched you with a smirk on her face as she feels like she just accomplished something, "Is the 'mighty warrior' not feeling well? Did I hit you too hard?" She says in a sarcastic caring tone.
You were trying not to hurt her and here she was intentionally going farther than just a little sparring. You knew by the smirk on her face she was trying to do more than just a little example fight for the young warriors.
"Amika is this how you wanna play? Throw illegal shots? You know you stomach shots are against the rules!" You yell at her as you began to stand back up straight
"I know that's why I did it, I want this to be just like when we fought in the sand. I want this to get bloody, I want to reciprocate the same pain you gave me when you attacked me at the shore weeks ago" She said raising her voice for everyone in the hall to hear
Everyone around the hall was intensely listening to both of you argue, "Attack you?! Are you delusional? You threw the first punch at me! You know what, I've been sparing your weak ass because my mate told me to but you're really pushing my buttons right now!" You say as you feel yourself grow angry as you pointed your finger in her face
"Since we're talking about Rotxo tell him to come by my mauri tonight, I'll show him what being with a REAL woman is like. I know he's tired of going to bed unsatisfied every night" Amika said with a malicious laugh knowing that she pushed you over the edge.
Everyone in the training hall mouths went agape, they were taken aback by the nasty comment she just made toward you. You were shocked as well, you knew she would say slick things but this... this was below the belt.
Your breathing began to get heavier and your eyes went from a beautiful blue to pitch black. Adrenaline ran through your body as you begin to ball up your fists. Your whole demeanor began to change and everyone could tell including Amika. You could see the look in her eye and tell she was growing fearful even though she tried to keep up her 'tough' act.
She walked up to you and punch you right in the nose, when her fist made impact you could hear a small crack. Instead of you groaning out in pain you began to let out a dark laugh which made everyone look at you like you were crazy, "your going to regret doing that, your going to wish that you didn't pick this fight with me" you say as a evil smirk spread across your face
Without saying another word you draw your arm back punch her in the face so hard she stumbles back and falls onto the ground. You grab her, raising her off the ground and began punching her repeatedly.
All you could see is red, all you were focused on was her, all you could hear was her words swarming around your head that you couldn't please your mate and that you were inadequate. She knew Rotxo was something that triggered this side of you so you don't know why she even did it and then for her say that in front of all these people including children was just weird to you.
As you continued making blows to her face and body you couldn't stop, the only way you could stop is if someone pulled you off of her. Amika tried to get some hits in and she did but they were nothing compared to the damage you were doing to her.
Every time you hit her your goal was to hear something crack, you wanted to see crimson liquid fall onto your hands from causing her a injury.
You were so focused on Amika you didn't even realize Rotxo walked into the training hall.
"Y/N! STOP!" Rotxo yelled trying to get your attention
You couldn't even hear him, you were to focused on the task at hand. The next thing you felt was a pair of hands wrapped around your waist, "LET GO OF ME!" You yell out trying to get out of the persons grasp and make your way back to Amika
"Yawne relax it is me" when you heard Rotxo voice it snapped you back into reality. You looked down and saw Amika on the floor curled up in a ball. Your eyes went back to their natural color and your body became less tense. He noticed how you demeanor changed and how your body relaxed so he let you go.
Before you left with Rotxo you needed to tell Amika one last thing.
You crouched down to her level and looked her in the eye, "You better not say some stupid ass shit like that again. This is your only warning, your lucky Rotxo pulled me off of your skxawng ass because I was this close to caving your head in. If you pull something like this again I will beat you until your soul meets Eywa, try me if you want to" you spat at her viciously. When you stood up you slap her in the face with your tail and began walking back toward Rotxo.
Rotxo grabbed you by your wrist (gently of course) and began leading you to your mauri. The walk there was silent, you knew once you got home he was going to be upset because you didn't keep your promise. As you walk inside Rotxo walks in behind you and closes the entrance curtain. Rotxo goes on the opposite side of the mauri and grabs some healing supplies. He walk back in the open area where your standing "sit down" is all he said. You knew he was upset when he only said a few words.
Once you sat down he began cleaning your small wounds and bruises. You didn't even realize your injuries until now because your body isn't running with adrenaline anymore.
Your hands were bruised, your nose was bleeding and a little broken. You also had some minor scratches and your stomach had a bruise on it from when Amika punched you. When Rotxo began putting a salve on your bruise you winced from the pain. Rotxo eyes softened as he watched your face contort from the pain but he was still upset with you.
As Rotxo continued healing your wounds he still hasn't said anything so you decided to break the silence, "Rotxo I know your mad but-"
"Yes I am mad! You promised me you wouldn't fight her and you did! I didn't want to see you hurt and that's exactly what happened! Look at you with all of these injuries!" He scolded as he continued ranting
As you heard him your ears fell flat, you hated that you made him upset. "Rotxo I'm sorry I didn't want to fight her but she just pushed me, she crossed the line this time"
When he heard you say that he became curious, "what do you mean? What did she do?" He asked as he sat down next you wanting to hear every detail
You explained everything to him. You told him how she was making dirty looks, how she challenged you, that disrespectful comment, and how she punched you in the nose.
"Rotxo I tried to control myself as much as possible, I really did but she push me to the limit. Saying that I wasn't a real women, that I couldn't please you it infuriated me. All I could see red, I-I just blacked out"
"I can't believe she said and did all that! If I would've known I would've continued letting you beat her to a pulp"
He took a small breath before continuing to speak
"I'm sorry yawne, I should've listened to your reasoning before I got upset. I just started getting upset before I even made sure you were okay" he grab your hand, gliding his thumb over your teal skin as he looked at you with apologetic eyes.
"It's okay Rotxo, I understand why you got upset. I'm okay, my body hurts a little but I'll be fine. I know you worry about me and my anger and I promise I'll get it under control"
"I know you will" he says as he plants a kiss on your forehead. "Now let's finish getting you patched up, okay?" He picks up the healing supplies and starts back tending to your wounds.

Runway {Pt 6}
Runaway Masterlist
DNI/BYF
Synopsis: Your 'relationship' with Ao'nung grows stronger. Everyone with eyes can see it. And Tuk teases youf or it too.
// I was on a roll and finished this much quicker than I expected to. So enjoy
“Y/n.”
You gasped. Almost dropping the clay bowl on the floor. “Ao’nung! My Eywa you scared me”
“Forgive me i hadn’t mean too”
Silence fell again. You put away things and take small breaths. Waiting. Hoping he would say something more.
But he didn't, he just watched from afar before standing behind you. “May we talk?”
“About?”
“About us”
You turned to look at him. Stepping back as you watched him. Eywa give you strength. “Dont you think there is no us?”
“I think you know exactly what i mean”
You sigh. You knew it would happen tho you had hoped it would be brought up much later than now. “Ao’nung..”
“You dont need to except me. Not at all and i wont force you too. But i would like to tell you now. If you allow me such kindness would you-”
“Y/n! There you are Come hurry!” Kiri spoke breaking into the pod. Staring at you who was very flustered and Ao’nung who looked angry and upset
“Oh Kiri. Sorry what is it?”
“Ronal would like to speak to you.”
You looked at Ao’nung. With your eyes bidding him a sorry as you headed off with Kiri. Silently thanking her for saving you from whatever that was. You weren’t ready for it. Not just yet. You were high on the emotions of today. You didnt need this right now.
Excusing yourself as you pushed forward where your parents along Ronal and Tonowari was you continued to stare.
“Ah Y/n! Come come sit”
And you did. Sitting next to her as she smiled at you. Handing over the babe to her mate as she turned to you. “As you know now you are well. I wanted to hear and see if your inner pain is gone”
It embarrassed you a little. But you followed her orders as you inhaled and exhaled.
No pain.
“I hear no trouble. Your Daughter has fully recovered”
Neytiri smiled gently holding you closer to her as she had been the happiest to know you were alive. “That’s my girl”
“As you know now you can continue with your chores and with your training.” Tonowari spoke pushing Ronal’s hand away as he wanted to continue to hold his son.
“And soon you will be able to choose a mate my dear. Of course with our blessings as well” Ronal warned you. And it made you gulp how at this moment Ao’nung had sat next to his parents.
“Of course” You agreed.
“We won’t decide for you. For our clan does not decide for our children. But We will be the ones to pass the blessings to you and your siblings if whenever you decide to have a mate”
Ao’nung stopped trying to get his father to hand over his brother. Turning to look at you and his mother as you continued to talk.
“Do you have anyone in mind?”
You gulped down your breathe looking down at your hands and briefly at Ao’nung. “ I mean… I do but” You turned to look at your family. “ i think i shall like to wait first. And besides that. I can not have them as a mate”
Ao’nung’s ears flattened. Looking at the floor.
“And for whatever reason my child?” your Mother asked you. You didnt want to say it. You couldn't say it. But anything to get them off your back
“Because… Because they are home and not here”
Ao’nung felt his heart beat slow. And it ached and it hurt. But he looked into your eyes for any indication that there was any truth to them.
And the fiery burn that was deep in your eyes told him otherwise. He understood. He did but it didn't make his heart hurt any less.
“Oh. I am sorry child. I do hope you find someone here if your heart ever allows it”
You only smiled at Ronal. Thanking her for her kindness as you spaced out. Did you love someone else before? Truthfully you knew that you didnt. Not anymore. Your heart hadn’t beat like this for a long while until now.
You looked at Ao’nung begging him silently for forgiveness. Because you did want him. You did. But you had heard Ronal’s words. You knew she would never approve.
But you also knew that no matter what Ao’nung wanted you. He had made it very clear.
You toned out the rest of the night. Too focused and yet so far out into space.
—--------------------------------------
The following month had been uneventful. Nothing truly happened. Well nothing with you. You had gone home yes and you had been well off back into training. Skimwing riding went great. Unfortunately for you it had been before bonding with a Tulkun. Something that was not uncommon.
However Today was the Day Ao’nung would tame his. Finally becoming an adult in the eyes of the clan. You wanted to see wanted to cheer him on as you had your siblings.
But your heart was telling you to look away. After this he was free to choose. And you were so mortified. So terrified. But you just had to look.
You watched on as he had Managed to finally hop on to a skimwig. You swore you could hear him exhale. Even from out here to the shore you swore you could hear his stuttering breathe as he grabbed at his queue. You giving just the most silent of prayers to Eywa.
You waited with bated breath. Watching as he had managed Tsaheylu. Letting go of your worries as you watched him maneuver through the water. Hoping that he wouldn’t fall off. That he wouldn’t his his head. Or maybe if he did that he’d get some sense knocked into it.
“Be at Ease Y/n. My son is well” Ronal spoke next to you. You had been so caught in a trance you didn't even notice that she had come next to you.
“Oh. Im sorry its just. I guess i'm nervous for when i finally do have a spirit sister” You commented back. Hearing the joyous cheers of the people. Tonowari howling with it too. Ao’nung had come back with minimal injury too.
“In due time my dear”
You didnt know if it was because you helped deliver the baby or the fact that the pregnancy changed ronal? But she was much more docile. Still fierce and ruled with Tonowari with an iron first. But it was more warm now. It was more at ease and you found yourself liking her presence. It was like having Mo’at here. Though much more like an older sister too.
You watched as They proudly presented Ao’nung as an adult now. Watched as his pride could not be more fed like his ego. You watched him intently. His gaze softened to you and it seemed like he was staring so deeply into your core. You wanted to look away. Maybe run to him? Congratulate him?
“I am proud of you my son” Ronal spoke smiling at him, placing a hand on his shoulder and offering back his song cord with his three new beads. “You are now Ready to choose a mate. When you do please tell us so we can give our blessings”
Ao’nung nodded. Staring at his parents before looking back at you. You were far out. Standing behind your family as you looked on to him. He would have to work but his heart was set.
“Y/n! Do you think i could ride a Skimwing!” Tuk asked jumping up and down. Neteyam had come to help you as she still didn't fully know that you couldn’t carry her.
“In due time Tuk.” You laughed watching as she gently hit Neteyam to let her down.
“Pretty soon You will be joining us Y/n”
“Oh please. All ill be doing is the same as usual. Now that we aren’t home i dont have to do any Tsahik training.” You stretched feeling the slightest bit of ache.
“Well that is to be seen” Lo’ak butted in.
You turned to him. Raising a brow as you smacked him on the arm. “And what is that suppose to mean?”
“Oh please.” Lo’ak raised a brow. Batting his lashes as he mimicked your expression. “Everytime i see you and him you guys have this face and its getting a little sick”
“Wha- I do not!”
“But You are Y/n” Tuk butted in this time. “Its groooooossss”
“What we mean is. Its kinda creepy how suddenly you are the best of friends. And! It seems you look at eachother with big eyes” Neteyam spoke this time. Putting Tuk down. Her running to hold your hand.
“I… is it that obvious?”
“Its gross” Kiri commented, not even bothering to look at all of you as she just watched the festivities continue. Glancing at her parents who were talking, none the wiser to what their kids were doing.
“I just”
“Pretty soon you two can be with eachother”
“I'm surprised you're okay with this Nete” You spoke looking as his smile dropped to dramatically frown.
“Oh im not but. You never seemed to like anyone. Its nice of you to be tamed and not have so much bite to your bark”
“I regret saving you sometimes”
“I agree with Neteyam sadly. I dont like Ao’nung as a brother. BUT. If you want him. Who am i to say anything”
You smiled. Your heart burning with pride and happiness. But you knew better. “Be real. I cant and this cant happen”
“Why?” Kiri asked you.
You sighed, resting your head on your hand. “ I do want him. I do. And maybe in some sick way he wants me too. But He’s the Future Olo’eyktan, and no matter what we do. We still are the outsiders. I dont think even with or without the arrange mates. I dont think his parents would ever agree”
“You mean Ronal” Kiri commented.
“Oh whatever you know exactly what i mean” You spoke while watching Ao’nung from afar.
Regretfully you pushed this thought behind.
—-------------------------------------------------
“The Tulkun Arrive soon”
You Finally tuned into the conversation. The lot of you had taken time off from your chores and your daily activities, that you had come back together like old times. It had been a year since your family came to this land.
And only a few months since Ao’nung became an adult.
This was your opportunity to complete training as well. And maybe you were nervous. Youd be an adult.. You’d have to find a mate.
“Oh Y/n! That means you will be able to find a sister!” Tsireya clapped her hands together.
You could only smile. “And how would i know that they are wanting to be my spirit sister”
“You will feel it in your heart and in the way you speak” Ao’nung Piped up now. All this time he had not lifted his gaze from you. It was soft and yet ravenous
“I see”
You picked yourself up and dipped into the water. “ I think ill just go for a swim then. Your welcome to join”
Tuk jumped in after you. And it wasn’t like you didn't want to spend time with Tuk. But after she found out..or was told about your feelings for Ao’nung. She constantly made a few jabs at her. Jabs that you wanted to dunk her head in the water to shut her up.
She gave you a smug look as she knew that you knew that she was going to tease you to hell and back.
Without looking back or really caring you dipped into the water. You had managed to find an underwater cave that had the smallest of air pockets. You had managed to spruce it up a little. Realistically you could probably fit two full grown adults and maybe a kid of Tuk’s height. So you realistically didn’t worry too much.
Grabbing a hold of Tuk, Pulling her up to the rocks as you showed her the little area.
“So when are you going to make Ao’nung our Brother?” Tuk so casually asked.
“Wah- huh! Tuk!?”
“What? Im only saying what everyone else is thinking?”
You could only stifle a laugh. Ringing your hair as you stared at the walls. Perhaps they needed more of a touch of home. “Don’t worry about what i do Tuk. You just worry about yourself”
“I'm not a kid anymore Y/n! Pretty soon After Lo’ak and Kiri its my turn to become and adult! I can have Big kid talk now too! Its boring but i can”
You smiled, patting her head. “ I still dont think it's your place to worry about it tho Tuk. If Ao’nung wants me and if its allowed we’ll see where that takes us”
“Good! You two are more bearable than Lo’ak and Tsireya”
You could only laugh as you two continued to talk. Your mind often wanders and goes back to the thoughts of Ao’nung becoming your mate. And any time it comes to your brain. It makes the pit in your stomach that much more painful.
—---------------------------------------------------------------
“Ao’nung please! Please dont” You pleaded. Your wrist fitting ever so perfectly in his hand. It was way past the eclipse. You were lucky your mother even allowed you out to clear your head. Unknown to you Ao’nung had found you.
You didn’t want to talk. You were too focused. Lost in your mind thinking of your feelings for your new life. Your potential future. And here he was holding you as you had tried to move away and head home.
“Please Just listen to me”
“Ao’nung”
“Please don’t tell me you are afraid for the feelings you have for me”
“You’re crazy to think i have those feelings”
“Don’t hide from me. All the time we spend while you were recovering me, you haven’t even hid your chest from me so don’t think you can hide your feelings for me so casually”
“Im not hiding anything!”
“Yes you are! What are you doing now then!”
“I'm Afraid!” You admitted. Your chest heaving as you looked on to him. Was he always this tall? Was he this attractive before. Did he hold such kindness in his eyes like this before? Did he always look concerned for you. “I'm Terrified even of what this feeling is doing to me”
“So you’re regretting ever feeling anything for me?”
“I’m regretting not being enough for your family Ao’nung. Do you think this is going to be easy for me even if we do get your parent’s blessings?’ You began to tear up a little. Bringing your hand to wipe your eyes. As you looked out into the ocean. You wanted badly for anything else to happen but you continued forward. “And its so horrible to have these feelings for you because Even if i am Toruk Makto’s daughter you still are the Future of this clan. You Deserve to have someone of your status. And im still just an outsider. The weaver of this clan. Im no leader no future Tsahik and it hurts because”
You inhaled sharply feeling his hand on your cheek as he waited. You wanted to scream
“Because?”
“Because, I see you” You wanted to eat those words as soon as you said it. Placing your hand on his bringing him closer as you just continued to stare at each other’s eyes.
You felt him place his forehead on yours. Kissing your nose as he took a deep breath. How he longed to hold you this way. To have to be so incredibly close and yet you were so far out of his reach.
“Y/n”
“Yes?”
“When the time is right and you’ve finished our right of passage. Will you accept to wait until I stake claim on you?”
You could only let out a laugh. Tackling him to the ground feeling the cold water bring you back to Pandora again. You’re damn lucky its just the two of you alone out here.
“Don’t worry about my mother. I’ll go ahead and talk with her in the morning”
“Alright”
—-------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps you shouldn’t have been so startled to see a very livid Ronal heading your way. With an apologetic look Tonowari gave you. Ronal spoke to you
“Y/n, To your feet. I need to speak to you in my Marui”
You turned to look at your parents. Shooting them a worried look as you followed behind her. You could only hope. You hadn’t made a big mistake the night prior.

Sun and Moon
Pairings : Ao’nung (17) x Sully!reader (18), Sully family x reader
Warnings : enemies to lovers (somewhat), heavy angst, eventual fluff, violence, bullet-wounds, slow burn, major death, kinda proofread
word count : 10.7k
a/n : angst is so great, gotta love killing off characters.
The sun and moon signify love from opposites.
You felt numb - watching your father step down from his title as Olo’eyktan. Everything you grew up to be was now wasted due to being the oldest child of Jakesuli and Neytiri. Leaving behind the forest, your home. Witnessing Tarsem hit your father’s chest, you snap out of your trance. It was official, you were really leaving everything. A moist feeling surrounds your tired eyes. Putting on a strong face not wanting to look vulnerable in front of the clan while walking away to your Ikrans. Holding Tuk’s hand for comfort as she was crying. You look back one more time, giving a curt nod to your grandmother with a solemn look on both your faces. You assist tuk onto your mothers Ikran before mounting onto yours.
Seeing as everyone was seated on their Ikran, your father yips, taking off with everyone following behind. You glance over to the rest of your siblings seeing them all look back one last time as they depart from their only home. Neteyam meets your gaze, giving each other weak smiles before looking back into the horizon. None of you knew what your father had planned, you could only trust that it would keep you all safe and away from the tawtute. Like Neteyam, you were not fond of any connection to the Sky people unlike Lo’ak and Kiri. Everything they have done on pandora has only brought destruction.
As hours passed, everyone was exhausted. Jake had signalled everyone to a small island taking a break from flying. Landing on the sand finally being able to stretch your limbs. Your father had called everyone in for a Sully meeting. (Forgot what it was called) Looking around, everyone seemed drained from both flying and mourning over leaving. You turn to your father, out of everyone he looked the most spent. Worrying over both the war and his kids must’ve stressed him out.
“How is everyone holding up?”
He spoke in a soft tone knowing that the atmosphere was dull. All of us could only let out small groans and muffled sounds answering his question. Sighing at the sight, he knew it would be best if he spent the rest of the night resting.
“Alright, everyone get some sleep. We head out again in the morning. Sully’s stick together?”
You give a small smile to your father joining him.
“Sully’s stick together.”
Everyone else joined in, Tuk only to yell it with enthusiasm. We all looked at her with amused faces knowing at least there was one person to lift the mood no matter what. One by one, they fell asleep, that just leaves you and your father. You see him sitting by the water watching the calm water before him. Walking over, plopping down next to him, you provide him comfort. He looks over to his eldest child, thankful that the mother has blessed him with such a pure soul. He quickly pulls into a crushing hug while giving you a noogie on the top of your head.
“AH SEMPU! Stooopp you are messing up my braids.”
You failed trying to escape from his grasp. The audacity he had to laugh while messing with your head. You elbowed his stomach, his grip loosened giving you the opportunity to slip out of his arms. He had bent over clutching his stomach, which gave you the opportunity to jump on his back.
“Oh you little-”
His arms flailing trying to grab you as you now mess up his dreads. Neytiri watched from a distance releasing a small huff in delight. Content with knowing that her child was always able to lift their fathers mood. She turned back to tend to Tuk, now falling asleep with her. Finally the both of you had settled down. You thought back to where you may be going.
“Where are we heading to?”
Jake wasn’t fully sure, he had the idea of ending up at one of the reef tribes but he was still unsure.
“I was thinking we could find shelter with the Reef People”
Your ears twitch at the idea that was presented.
“But we are Forest people, what use would we be to them?”
“We can adapt, just like I did when I became one of the people”
Trusting your father’s words you give him a hum of understanding. You knew it was better to be somewhere we didn’t belong compared to constantly being chased by the RDA. You bid your father goodnight, heading to the open spot beside a peaceful Kiri. You lay on the warm sand looking up at the glimmering stars. You count them until you fall into a tranquil slumber.
_
Once the sun started rising, everyone was ready to take off once more. Giving your father a nod letting him know everyone was ready, you take to the air heading towards the home of the reef tribes. You look over to see Lo’ak and Neteyam bumping their Ikrans together and bickering. You roll your eyes and give them a warning yelp knowing if their father saw, they would be scolded. Lo’ak stuck his tongue out to Neteyam, him doing the same. You chuckle at the sight, glad that their spirits weren’t fully brought down. Flying farther, the water went from a dark blue to a bright aqua colour. You see an alignment of islands and Na’vi people who looked much brighter in colour compared to the rest of you.
Hearing some sort of horn being blown notifying the clan of your presence. You watch as the people swim and jog towards your figures as you land on a small clearing by the water. Hopping off you Ikran, hands up showing that you are no threat to them. Neteyam also mirrors our father’s actions. Emerging from the crowd were two boys, about Neteyams age. They scan over your bodies seeing how different your features were compared to theirs. You do the same, their arms and tails much thicker, their stripes resembling waves, their torsos with wider rib cages. Snapping out of thought you hear them making fun of Lo’aks tail and such. You refrain from hissing at him but instead give him a warning glare. Your eyes then landed on Lo’ak, he was staring at something else. You follow his gaze, a girl emerging from the water. You gave him a nudge and a teasing look, he nudged you back turning his attention back to the girl.
You see her slap the back of the boy's head who was making fun of your features earlier. You let out a small snort, turning his attention on you giving you a glare. You ignored him, turning your attention to the creatures who were now gliding over you. It seemed the one seated on the creature was the Olo’eyktan of this clan. Another emerging from the crowd, she must’ve been the Tsahik. All of us greeted them with a gesture.
Your father spoke of seeking Uturu within the Olo’eyktans home. The Tsahik walked around us, observing our bodies. Grabbing my mothers tail, now walking towards Kiri. You felt alerted, tail raising and ears folded back. She grabbed your sister's arm proceeding to yell “demon blood” causing you to step closer to Kiri. Now walking to Lo’ak raising his arm doing the same as she did to Kiri. Your father quickly stepped in saying that we can adapt in a desperate tone. Your mother follows along in a dejected voice.
You watch the clan leaders as they make eye contact with each other, making a decision to let us stay or not. Finally they accepted us, your tense shoulders now relaxed, releasing your breath not knowing you were holding it. The Olo’eyktan had also announced that his son and daughter will teach us the ways of the metkayina people much to his sons protests. You realised the boy from earlier was the chief's son. How fun this will be.
Their daughter made her way to your family wanting to show us our Mauri. She had a very bright personality compared to her brother. You can see why Lo’ak likes her. Reaching the Mauri your mother drops the mat making you all turn to her. You smile knowing it will take your mother a while to get accustomed to the change. Sitting all together, your father mentions not getting into trouble while we are here as mere guests. You turn to Lo’ak knowing he would be the one causing trouble. Suddenly Tuk starts crying stating she wanted to go home. You walk over to her.
“Tuktuk, it will be okay. This is only temporary, I promise”
You held out your “pinky” as you also have four fingers instead of three. She then held out hers and your linked pinkies making a promise. Your father had taught you guys about pinky promises. Now coming together, cheering Sully’s stick together. All standing, you and your siblings stepped out. You watch as Neteyam and Lo’ak run and jump into the water. You laugh while shaking your head at them. You walk to the edge while holding hands with Tuk. You gently set her in the water, joining right after her. Kiri slowly dipped into the water as well. All of us now emerged ourselves underwater trying to follow the metkayina kids. It was hard as they were made for the water while we were made for land and trees. You watch as Kiri strays off from the group. Since it was a reef you let her be, knowing heading towards the surface air as your brothers did that same.
Catching your breath, the others who were named Tsireya, Ao’nung, and Rotxo followed you guys up to the surface. Tsireya asked if we were okay, but Tuk replied before you could.
“You’re too fast, wait for us!”
“Just breathe, breathe”
Ao’nung now emerged from the water, he just had to say something.
“You are not good divers, maybe swimming through trees-”
Tsireya smacked his head, while he gave her an offended look. You smile in satisfaction knowing there was at least one person to keep that skxawng in check. He caught your smile giving you a glare. You returned the glare then returned to ignoring him. You wanted to ask what gestures they were doing with their hands as you were unfamiliar with that sort of communication.
“What was the finger talk you were doing under the water?”
“Since we cannot talk in water, we use hand gestures and signs to communicate with each other. We will be teaching that as well.”
You nod in content going back into the water to explore the reef a bit longer. Finally spotting Kiri surrounded by sea life. She always had a strong connection to everything around her. She even got her Ikran by the Ikran choosing her without a fight. How lucky she was, your Ikran was much more feisty compared to your brothers. The others had gestured you over to shallow waters. Reaching the shallow water Ao’nung made clicking sounds. Smaller creatures swam over, responding to his calls.
“These are Ilu. If you want to live here, you have to ride”
You were split into two groups, you and Neteyam with Ao’nung much to your distaste. Lo’ak, Kiri, and Tuk were with Tsireya. An Ilu came in front of you nudging your arm, you giggled a bit petting the Ilu gently. You turn to Lo’ak seeing that he was first to try riding the Ilu. He made the bond, and eventually took off at a quick speed. Everyone ducked their heads in the water just to see your brother fail to stay on the Ilu. You and Tsireya suppressed your laughs, but you saw Ao’nung laughing with his gang. You could only roll your eyes at him. He turned now looking at the rest of you. He felt the need to pick on you as their first impressions of each other weren’t the best.
“Well freak, I think it is your turn to fall off an Ilu yes?”
Freak? You feel a sense of insecurity as your ears turn back. You knew you were different, especially having more fingers compared to the rest. Back at home, you received stares even though you were a child of Toruk Makto, the eldest at that. Being in a place where the differences are even more apparent didn’t settle well inside of you. You look at Ao’nung with a stern face, walking past him while intentionally bumping shoulders with him.
The Ilu from earlier swam up to you, turning its side facing you. You sense that it was the same when connecting with the Pa'li, just a bit more slippery. Mounting the Ilu, adjusting your seating position you made tsaheylu with it. Eyes dilating, you felt the Ilu’s breathing and heartbeat. Taking a small moment to get used to feeling, you command the Ilu to swim forward. You start slowly unlike your brother. Slowly increasing the speed, you adjust your position to dive down in the water with the Ilu. Once diving down, you open your eyes looking around and admiring the sea life once more. Turning around you start heading towards Ao’nung picking up your speed. He saw and started to panic, thinking that you would crash into him. Only a metre away from him you suddenly stop while resurfacing making him yelp.
“I think I ride well for a freak, fish lips”
You hear snickering behind him while you dismount the Ilu. Turns out it was his so-called “friends.” Ao’nung feeling embarrassed, he could only muster out a muffled “whatever.” You start walking towards Lo’ak who was also laughing at Ao’nung. You ruffled his braids grinning with him.
“You got him real good tsmuke”
“He deserves it after laughing at my baby brother”
_
The rest of the Sully kids continue practising to ride the Ilus, eventually getting the hang of it. All now gathered on top of a rock sitting in a circle practising our breathing. Tsireya had Lo’ak and Tuk, Rotxo with Kiri and Neteyam, finally leaving you with Ao’nung. Although he was a good teacher, his comments by itself made him seem ignorant. You wished you could trade places with anyone of your siblings. You glance over to Lo’ak seeing Tsireya had a hand on his stomach. She had mentioned to slow his heart rate, Neteyam and Rotxo exchanged looks while Kiri rolled her eyes. Smiling, you found yourself distracted by the scene before Ao’nung had to ruin it.
“Your breathing is horrible”
You sigh moving your head to face him. You tilt your head, giving him a deadpan face.
“I’m not exactly as skilled or well equipped compared to you”
Voicing in an obvious tone. He moved towards you, you moved back not sure what he was doing. You squint your eyes at him while he raised his hands.
“Relax freak, I’m just trying to help you with your unpleasant breathing”
Although still unsure you let him come forward. He gently placed his large hand on your stomach telling you to breathe deep from there. You take a deep breath in, he tells you to hold it for a couple seconds before letting you breathe out slowly. Still not taking his hand off your stomach, he tells you to do it once more. It was an improvement in contrast when breathing by yourself. Lo’ak and Neteyam make eye contact with questionable looks.
“I think you’ve touched my older sister more than you already should Ao’nung”
Neteyams voice had gotten your attention, you realised that his hand was still placed on you. He quickly took his hand away, averting his eyes elsewhere. Ignoring them you continue your breathing at a steady pace. Soon the lessons had come to an end letting you and your siblings time to explore the island and reefs.
While Kiri was laying in the water, you sat on the shore watching the claiming waves of the water. Your peace is now interrupted by Ao’nung and his gang.
“What is she doing?”
“Looking at the sand”
Kiri heard voices, standing up from her position asking what they had said. They asked if she was a freak and continued to bother her by grabbing her hands. You stood up immediately marching over to them. You got in front of Ao’nung and pushed him back.
“Do not call my sister a freak fish lips”
His grin only grew wider as you stepped in.
“Would you look that, another four fingered freak”
Before you could do anything else, Lo’ak and Neteyam had entered the scene. Neteyam told Ao’nung to back off, only complying with Neteyam only. You ushered them away and told your sister and brothers to leave not wanting to stay any longer. That was until they called us a bunch of freaks. Lo’ak went back, showing them a “cool trick” which ended up Ao’nung being punched straight in the face. A whole fight broke out, you and Neteyam looked at each other debating to join in. Neteyam went first pulling off a boy that was on Lo’ak. Only a second later did you join, tackling Ao’nung to the ground. You took him by surprise, you didn’t give him a second to think before you punched him as well. At your age you were quite tall, even towering a bit over Ao’nung. Your height gave you both advantages and disadvantages.
Eventually the fight had to disperse when your fathers came over to break it up. Walking back to the Mauri, Jake trailing right behind all three of you.
“What was the one thing I asked, the one thing”
“Stay out of trouble”
“Stay out of trouble!”
You take the blame for Lo’ak, only for your father to tell you not to. He told him that they were picking on Kiri. Your fathers face scrunched up before telling Lo’ak to go apologise as he was the chief’s son. Lo’ak stormed off leaving you and Neteyam. Jake had asked about how the other guys looked. You smile as Neteyam said they looked worse. Neteyam headed off first now leaving just you and your father alone.
“Sempu, you should give Lo’ak a break from your nagging”
“How else is your brother supposed to learn?”
You could only sigh, giving your father a sympathetic look.
“It is hard on him, you know. I get that you want him to stay out of trouble but arguing with him won’t help. You have to really talk to him like we are doing right now.”
He huffs air out knowing that you’re right. But he can’t help but see himself in Lo’ak as they were basically identical. He ruffles your hair giving you a smile wondering how he got a child like you. You now walk towards your mother assisting her and Kiri with wrapping food in leaves. You take in Kiri’s mood, seeing how she is wrapping and placing the food in frustration. Neytiri also noticing asked her what was wrong only getting “nothing” in return. She talked about why she had to be so different - wanting to be like everyone else. You understood her deeply, because everyone always stares due to our odd features. Whispering to each other about it as if we didn’t hear them. You hold Kiri’s hand giving it a small squeeze reassuring her that you were here for her.
_
Walking along the shore line, watching the sky slowly becoming a burnt orange colour. From a distance you see Ao’nung walking your way, you quickly spin around on your heels to walk away. Ao’nung noticed you and started shouting forest girl and telling you to slow down. That only made you walk faster, still annoyed about the fight earlier. He started jogging to catch up to you, finally making it beside you.
“You’re fast on land and yet not in water”
Sighing you look down at him.
“Do you need something or have you come to bother me more?”
He was still surprised with how tall you are even though you are only a year older. He had to cran his neck a bit just to meet your eyes.
“The second option, I just had some questions about you… forest people”
You knew that if you were to ignore him, he probably wouldn’t stop pestering you. Exhaling out of your nose, you raise your hand giving a small go ahead motion. You suddenly grab your tail, you turn and slap his hand away.
“Do all forest na’vi have these flimsy limbs?”
You stare at him like he was- no is an idiot. Taking note of your expression he took that as a yes. Still keeping a stupid grin on his face he continued on to his next question, a question that ticked you off.
“Did your clan think you were a freak too, you know because of your face and hands?”
Fists forming, knuckles turning bright, you punch him right in the chest. Knocking the air out of him, bending over to catch his breath.
“You really don’t know when to stop, do you? Do you always spend your time being rude to those who are just the tiniest bit different from you? Along with your so-called friends. Are-are you just putting up this act to impress them or something? I have been patient with you but you really testing me now.”
Finally standing up straight, he now felt angry too. Thinking How dare you punch me? So he decided to push you to the ground.
“You do not get to punch me. I am the future Olo’eyktan and you have to respect me. Plus I am sure your father would love to hear about you punching the chief's son, again.”
You have had enough, you stood up fast running towards him and crashing into his body making you both fall. Straddling his waist, you pull your arm back punching in the face this time.
“You know, to think you would act a bit different after my brother apologised to you?!”
You punch him again on the opposite side of his face, creating another bruise to add to his collection.
“Apologised? That half ass apology meant nothing! We left him outside the reef you bitch!”
Before you could punch him again, you paused hearing him blurt out that last sentence. You stare him in the eye giving him a deadly look.
“You. Did. What?”
You got off of him, pulling him up with you by his ear and kuru. You drag him all the way to your Mauri ignoring his cry of pain. You find your father sitting beside Kiri. He turned to see what the commotion was about. He saw you dragging Ao’nung in front of him, both looking beaten up. You throw Ao’nung to the side.
“Tell him what you told me!”
Venom laced your words. Your tail flicked around in agitation as he explained to your father what he had done. Both your father and Kiri’s eyes widen, quickly getting up from their position to alert the chief. You give Ao’nung one last look of hatred before following after your father and Kiri.
You let them go ahead wanting to alarm your mother and Neteyam about Lo’aks disappearance. All of you now heading towards the docks, you hear the blowing sound. You ran faster worried for your brother being hurt or worse. There was a crowd, pushing past you see Lo’ak and your father. You run up to Lo’ak, checking all over his body for any injuries, thankfully only small scratches were visible.
Lo’ak was now looking in a different direction, you turn to see Ao’nung. Your ears turned down seeing his face again. Lo’ak lunged forward, but you caught him before he could reach him. Tonowari made Ao’nung kneel down to take the blame. Lo’ak had caught you off guard when he took the blame. You stare at him in disbelief not understanding why he took the blame especially when Ao’nung deserved it. The family walking away a small distance from the clan, your father started scolding him. Lo’ak had stormed away after hearing what his father had to say and calling him sir. Before you could go after Lo’ak, you turn to your father.
“I told you to talk to him. That is not talking, that is scolding your son, my brother.”
Shaking your head in disappointment, you run after Lo’ak. Once you caught up you walk beside him throwing an arm around his shoulder. Before you could even speak you saw the one person you didn’t want to see right now. He asked Lo’ak on why he took the blame, he responded with how he knew how it felt to be a big disappointment. A saddening feeling washes over you. You could only look over to Ao’nung with a bitter face. Lo’ak touched your arm signalling that it was okay.
_
In the morning, we had all gathered onto a rock listening to Lo’aks encounter with a tulkun. A lone tulkun at that. Tulkun are not alone as they travel in pods. He explained how the Tulkun had a missing fin.
“Payakan, it’s payakan”
Tsireya’s tone sounded concerned. You didn’t understand what was so bad about the situation. They unravelled the story about payakan the killer tulkun. You worry grew as you face Lo’ak, only he denied the fact that he was bad. It seemed as though no one was listening to his words, but you knew that Lo’ak wouldn’t lie about something like this. But as no one else believed him, he stormed off.
“Lo’ak!”
He didn’t listen, you could only sigh as you let him go. The rest of you had dispersed, Tsireya and Rotxo took your siblings to their sacred tree. You wanted to stay back to practice throwing a spear. Only using a bow and arrow back in the forest, getting accustomed to a spear was hellish. You kept missing the target you made in the sand. Having such a lean figure, you weren’t sure if you would ever be able to throw a spear properly. You groan in frustration, tail whipping around.
A short distance away, a figure was observing your struggles. Ao’nung had felt bad for the other day. He took this as an opportunity to call a truce between the two of you. He formed friendships with each of the Sully’s except you.
In the corner of your eyes you see Ao’nung approaching you. Not wanting to deal with him you throw the spear into the sand preparing to leave. That was until he called out to you.
“Forest girl! Where are you going?”
Your face scrunching up with annoyance, you turn to face him.
“Anywhere that is away from you. Why? Are you here to make fun of my appearances again?”
Guilt filled his face. He deeply regretted what he had done but was also still a bit mad at the fact that you punched multiple times. Though he did deserve it, he would never admit that.
“Calm down, I have only come over to help you with your spear skills. It was an interesting sight seeing you struggle with the spear.”
“I do not need your help, you can leave now.”
His head hung down, shaking in doubt. You needed the help and watching as you continually failed made him cringe but also amused.
“You know I am a good teacher, but you won’t be able to enhance your skills on your own. You need a skilled warrior to help your incompetent ass.”
You roll your eyes and turn your head. As much as you despise him, you knew he was a good teacher. You held in your distaste for him you muffled something under your breath.
“Hm? What was that? I definitely couldn’t hear the first time”
Averting his gaze as he teased you, you murmured once more a tiny bit more clear.
“I said you can help me or whatever”
You only made eye contact for a second, you saw that he had a taunting look.
“Mmm not quite sure I heard a please in that sentence”
You huff in annoyance finally talking in a clear tone.
“Can you help me… please?”
He was finally satisfied with your answer. He started with what you were doing wrong. Pointing out how you should be positioned when ready to throw the spear. He demonstrated by aiming at the poorly made target. He got into a proper stance, reeling his arm back to throw the spear. You saw how much power came from his throw, watching as the spear hit the target right in the middle. Your eyes glimmered in amazement. He surveyed your reaction, smiling to himself knowing he made an impression.
“Now it is your turn”
You grab the spear from the sand, stepping away a fair distance. You tried copying the stance Ao’nung had when preparing to throw the spear. In Ao’nungs eyes, you looked a bit awkward when getting into position. Coming in front of you, he gave you a look of confirmation seeing if it was okay to fix your stance. You nod faintly. He started with your arms, grabbing them and moving them into the proper spots. Next was your legs, you kicked them to be farther apart giving you a more solid base. Finally your torso, he gently placed his large hands on your stomach and back.
“You want to have a tight core and a straight back. Breathe in and aim right before you throw your spear.”
You had a small fluttering feeling in your gut being in close proximity to Ao’nung. He nods at you to attempt after giving you tips. You felt nervous not wanting to mess up. You took in a deep breath and followed through Ao’nungs words. Widening your stance, reeling your arm back, you take in a deep breath while strengthening your core and back. You threw with all the power you had as you breathed out. The spear landed on the target, not exactly in the middle but in the target. You shocked yourself seeing how much improvement there was.
“DID YOU SEE THAT? I GOT IT IN THE TARGET”
Lost in the moment you grab his shoulder shaking him in excitement. He could only admire your excited face, it being the first time seeing you genuinely happy. Snapping out of it, you stop as heat rises to your cheeks. You felt embarrassed for grabbing Ao’nung like that, you let go of him giving a small apology.
“Told you I was a good teacher, or should I say outstanding”
“Outstanding is definitely not the word to describe it. Adequate sounds more fitting”
“Hey without me you would still be missing the target. I bet I could shoot an arrow perfectly the first attempt.”
He instantly regretted saying that he could shoot an arrow. An idea popped in your head, giving him a smug smile.
“If you are so confident, let’s see you shoot fish lips”
You told him to wait before he could retaliate. You enter your Mauri grabbing your bow and a couple arrows missing the questioning look from your mother. Now reaching Ao’nung, you toss him your bow and tilt your head towards one of the small trees. It was now his turn to be nervous.
“Since you apparently think you know how to shoot an arrow, you can learn yourself without my help correct?”
“Pft of course I can, you dare doubt my abilities?”
You could only shrug. He had no clue what he was doing. He thought It couldn’t be too different from spear throwing… right? You watch as he takes on a rather strange stance. He pulled the arrow back, his fingers then released the arrow which missed the tree by a lot. Laughter spilt from your lips from trying to suppress it. His ears now folded down in embarrassment.
“Now what was that about doubting your abilities?”
“Ha ha, I think it is a good time to return the favour. I want to learn.”
You felt ecstatic that you could share your ways. You walk over to him, you explain how his stance should be.
“It is a little similar to the throwing stance. Your legs are about shoulder-width apart, not as far apart like the throwing stance.”
You move to the other side making adjustments to his arms. To be able to do this, you needed to be very close to him. His breath hitched as he felt heat radiating from your body.
“The arm holding the bow, you want it to be all the way out with your elbow bent just a bit. Now with the arm pulling the arrow back, you want it to be right by your cheek with your elbow facing toward the sky at a certain degree.”
You gently guide his arms into position.
“You are almost ready. Lastly, just like you told me, you want a strong core and back before aiming at your target. Do not forget to breathe.”
You step away scanning his modified stance. Placing your arms on your hips huffing in content. You slightly bend, waving your arm towards the target telling him to now shoot. He took in breath, exhaling as he let go of the arrow. The arrow finally hit the tree, you turn to him to tell him that it was excellent. You see him running towards you, picking you up and spinning.
“I DID IT. That was amazing!”
He placed you on the ground, a smile gracing his face. The smile quickly faded, changing back to a smug look. He spat out an insult to cover his facade slippage.
“You are not bad for a freak”
Your eyebrows furrow in bewilderment. Just a second ago you both were happy and cheering in excitement just for him to go and ruin it once more. You push him away from you, anger filling your system.
“You are insufferable! We were finally sharing a good moment just for you to go and insult me, calling me a freak”
Freak leaving your mouth in a constricted whisper. You snatch the bow out of his hands, and collect the arrows before leaving for your Mauri. Ao’nung tried reaching out to stop you.
“Y/n wait, I didn't mean it. It just slipped out”
You smack his arm away, now seething in resentment.
“No, it still came out of your mouth. That means you thought about it before you spat it out to me”
Not letting him talk any further, you turn to walk away. Tears flood your eyes as you enter the Mauri. Neytiri was practising some healing rituals as Ronal started to teach her. Her ears perked up to the sound of stomping entering. She turned her head, seeing you throw your bow onto the floor with tears now falling down your cheeks.
“Y/n? What happened? Who did this to you?”
Her protectiveness flooded her system wanting to know who made their child shed tears. It was only a minute ago that you came in with a good attitude. Only returning with tears and frustration cover your face.
“Sa’nok a-am I a freak?”
Sorrow took over watching her child cry thinking that they were a freak. She knew that being both Omatikayan and having different features from Na’vi would present some difficulties. But she did not know it would take as far as making her children cry. Feeling as if she failed a part of being a mother.
“You are not a freak maite. You are one of us, one of the people no matter where you are”
She brought you into a tight embrace trying her best to comfort you.
“Then why am I treated so differently? I am constantly getting stared at both here and in the forest especially since I am the eldest. I am called a freak by so many other Na’vi even though there is barely any difference. Kiri experiences the same but not as bad because of her close connection with Eywa. Lo’ak too but he could care less half the time. I feel so weak.”
Your voice was hoarse, eyelids raw from rubbing away the tears.
“You are not weak. You have the blood of Toruk Makto and Palulukan Makto running through you. You are an excellent warrior, and you take care of your brothers and sisters very well. You are one of the strongest people I know, saying that you are weak is a complete lie. The only reason you are treated differently is because you are better than them. You do not let them bring your spirit down even in the worst times. You are strong, seykxel.”
Eyes moistening once more bringing your mother closer sharing a meaningful moment. Just as things got better, something unimaginable had happened. There was a commotion outside, Neteyam entering with a frantic look on his face.
“Kiri, it’s Kiri. She had a seizure!”
You and your mother got up as quickly as you could. Running to where she was located. You gasped, eyes scanning over her unconscious state. You should’ve gone. You should’ve been there when it happened. You could’ve prevented it. Neytiri snapped you out of your hazy state.
“Quickly! Bring her into the Mauri!”
Everyone rushed to carry her. Laying her down gently on the floor, she was breathing but not waking up. Anxiety passed through your body, tears filling your eyes once more seeing your baby sister in a sort of comatose. Hours pass waiting for Norm and Max to arrive to help. She was still unconscious, the anxiety never leaving your body. Norm and Max finally make it in the aircraft. You and your father rush to help grab the equipment and bring them over to Kiri.
Seeing wires being attached on her body made you feel numb. You and the others had to wait outside while waiting to get any results of Kiri’s state. Ronal had finally come. Neytiri yelled out to the men “helping” Kiri. Ronal started the healing rituals on Kiri. All you can do now is wait.
At some point of the ritual you came in sitting by Kiri’s side hoping she would wake soon. More time passed, Ronal took a final breath before Kiri started to stir.
“Kiri?”
Finally opening her eyes, you cry in relief she’s okay. You embrace her arm, both sharing tears. Your mother caresses her face with Tuk beside her. The rest of the night was spent making sure Kiri was okay. Everyone had eventually fallen asleep, but you were still wide awake. You exit quietly not wanting to wake your family. You walk towards a clear sandy area, taking a seat right in front of the water. You took in a deep breath, closing your eyes then exhaling through your nose. So many events occurred today keeping you wide awake.
You look past the horizon, waves crashing and water coming up lightly touching your feet. Lifting your knees up you rest your arms and head with your eyes closed. Listening to the wind and water.
Ao’nung had trouble sleeping as well. He thought a small walk would help tire him out. Walking along the shore, he spots you not too far away from him. He thought back to his idiotic words being said. He wanted to make amends but he and his big mouth had to ruin it. Seeing this as one more opportunity to make things right, he started walking towards you.
Your ears twitch to the sound of footsteps in the sand. You raise your head to see who it was. Oh, Aonung. Your jaw clenched not wanting anymore horrible events to happen. You were going to ignore him no matter what. Or so you thought. He reached your crouched frame, joining you by sitting beside you.
“I do not mean any harm by coming here”
Your ears and tail gave away your irritated emotions, showing him that you doubt his words.
“I wanted to apologise for everything I've done to you. Especially calling you certain names. And punching you.”
You still didn’t give him any attention. He only sighed knowing he deserved every minute of your silence.
“You know, you were right about me. How I was acting when my friends or well ex-friends were around. I stopped talking to them, only now did I realise how bad of an influence they were apart from Rotxo. I thought I was living up to the future Olo’eyktan name thinking I was protecting the people from outsiders. In reality, I should have been doing the opposite. Just like my father, I should’ve just greeted you without having to insult you and your sister and brother. You don’t have to forgive me but I’m hoping that we could form a truce?”
Your body is fully facing him, you see that he was sincere. You swear that you would ignore him but you couldn’t.
“I forgive you… under one condition.”
He did not know that this would be your condition. You had called your Ikran to the beach telling him that he will join you on one flight. When you told him his face dropped immediately. You had to hold in your chuckle because of how scared he looked.
“Tam tam txampay”
His eyes widened at the name but understood why. Your Ikran had beautiful blue colours with white and light blue accents just like the sea. You put your hand under your Ikrans head, your other hand grabbing Ao'nungs. You slowly bring his hand to gently pet your Ikran.
“Ikrans only bond with one for life”
Your voice is quiet. You then lead him to the side, mounting your Ikran first. You pat the spot behind you, but Ao’nung was hesitant.
“You do not have to join me. I only offered to see how you would react.”
“No it is okay, I will ride with you”
You extend your arm out for him to grab. You pull him up to sit behind you, just before you take off you warn him to hang on tight. Commanding to fly straight up, the sudden jolt made Ao’nung wrap his arms around your waist hanging on for dear life. He looks at you as if you are a maniac due to your laughing. Reaching a good height, you level out.
“You can open your eyes now you prrnen”
He lifts his head from your back, eyes gleaming down at the extraordinary view of the islands and sea. The glow from the water looked surreal when above it, the lights on the island looked like small stars from afar. The sky was lit up by the multitude of moons and stars littering space. You turn your head seeing his amazed reaction, you couldn’t help but just stare. Specks of light illuminating his face, his blue eyes twinkling, a relaxed face with a settled smile. It felt nice seeing Ao’nung truly be himself instead of putting up a facade.
You turn away looking back at the horizon while flying around the islands. Ao’nung then faced you. He too couldn’t help but study your features. Specks of light on your face scattered in unique patterns. Your stripes were more prominent, your eyes doe like and yellow with a splash of green. Your eyebrows suit you, making it easier to understand your emotions especially when they furrow together. He tightened his grip around your waist as he laid the side of his face on your back admiring the view all around him.
Feeling his face on your back brought back the fluttering feeling. Your ears felt as if they were heating up and your cheeks doing the same. You slightly tilt your head, peeking from the corner of your eye. You saw Ao’nungs calm face, his eyes drooping ever so little. You give your Ikran a quiet yip, slowly descending back to the sand. Gently landing, you jump off first, then helping Ao’nung off. He looked as if he could pass out now compared to before.
“How was your first Ikran experience?”
You softly ask hoping his answer was positive.
“It was… breathtaking. I knew the reef was beautiful but the view from above made it look unbelievable. Thank you, really.”
You chuckle faintly.
“I'm glad you liked it. Seeing as you are on the brink of sleeping on the sand, I think it is best we head to our Mauri’s”
He could only give you a curt nod from feeling sleepy.
“Goodnight, forest girl”
“Goodnight, ocean boy”
_
You woke up to loud noises from outside of the Mauri. You and your family step out to see a bunch of Tulkuns entering the reef. Tsireya rode by on her Ilu shouting that their brothers and sisters had returned. Your brothers went ahead first, then your sisters went with Rotxo. You jump into the water as well, calling an Ilu. Climbing onto the Ilu, Ao’nung glided over to you.
“Come I want to meet my spirit brother”
You give him a quick smile while following after him. It felt special that Ao’nung wanted you to meet his spirit brother. Watching the others jump out of the water and interacting with their spirit sister and brothers brought a blooming joy in your chest. Ao’nung came to a stop, you stopped right behind him. He dived down into the water greeting his brother who swam up to him. Ao’nung signalled you to come down with him. You complied, diving down you saw his brother with beautiful marking on his body.
Ao’nung started communicating with his brother. You could only make out a few things like I made a new friend. They. pretty. Even if you didn’t fully understand you felt heat rushing to your cheeks once more. Ao’nung then looked flustered, you could not understand his brother so whatever he said definitely got to him. You smile at the sight, seeing Ao’nung in a new light was refreshing.
With Ao’nung he had told his brother that he had made a new friend. He signed. They are quite pretty, no? Not noticing the purple hue appearing on his cheeks. His brother could only put on an amused look. You like her don’t you? He was now flustered. He quickly signed. No way! What that’s, that’s crazy. His brother rolled his eyes watching Ao’nung overreacting. You swam over to him tapping his shoulder grabbing his attention, you pointed up to the surface needing a breath of air. He nods, telling his brother he’ll be right back. You both emerged from the water catching a breath of air. You turn to him with a questionable look.
“What were you and your brother talking about?”
The purple hue on his cheeks darken, averting his gaze to the sky.
“It was nothing important”
You knew he was lying but didn’t pry any further. Hours passed, the celebration had died down. You and Ao’nung stuck around each other a lot longer than you expected. Both walking side by side, arms brushing against each other. It was a comfortable silence while walking along the water. Feeling a drop of water land on your head, you look up as the rain starts to fall. You and Ao’nung went to take cover under the tree leaves. Settling on the sand, you watch as the rain gently hits the ocean water. Ao’nung turned to you wanting to ask a question that has been on his mind.
“What is the forest like?”
Stunned for a second. You were surprised that he wanted to know about the forest, your home.
“The forest was enchanting yet dangerous. Trees tall with a variety of plants and animals surrounding it. It is gorgeous during daylight but once it turns dark, everything glows. It is hard to explain how it feels when being there, you just have to experience it first hand. A bit like your Ilu, we have Pa’li that we ride on the ground. Then there are palulukans that roam the forest. Very dangerous if you meet one, but my mother was able to ride one, palulukan makto.”
It was like Ao’nung could listen to you go on and on about whatever you are talking about, as long as he got to hear your voice. He was daydreaming as you were talking slowly, seeing as he wasn’t fully paying attention.
“Oare? Are you alive?”
Teasing him, he blinked coming out of his dreaming. Oare? You had given him a nickname without even realising. His tail slapped against the sand not being able to control his feelings. He gave you a teasing smile after hearing the name you’ve given him.
“That is a new name. Are you going to keep calling me that?”
Cheeks feeling hot, you didn’t mean for that to slip out. Lately the boy has been making you feel things you shouldn’t feel, towards him of all people. Avoiding his gaze you speak in a delicate tone.
“Only if you want me to”
“I do… Can I call you something as well?”
“What?”
“Tsawke”
Sun? You give him a questionable look not understanding why he would give the nickname sun.
“What does the sun have to do with me?”
He pretended to think by bringing his hand to his chin. Pursing his lips and opening his mouth.
“Your eyes are like the sun's colour, your blue skin is like the surrounding sky. The sun is also very bright, and brings life amongst many things. I think Tsawke suits you. Why call me moon?”
“Well, the moon changes along with everything around it. First it was when you were with those “friends” but then you changed along the way. You also shine bright during the night. The other night, flying with my Ikran, that’s where I really saw you glow. You were the moon while your specks were like the stars surrounding you. Your stripes like the tides with the moonlight shining over it.”
You shyly smile at him before looking back to the water. You move a bit closer to him feeling the warmth of his skin. Hesitantly, you lay your head on his shoulder. He felt tense at the sudden contact, then relaxed. He wrapped his tail around your waist pulling you closer, resting his head on top of yours. Both watching as the rain slowly clears with rays of sun shining through the dark clouds.
From a distance away, you see Lo’ak riding away with an Ilu. The others followed after him discreetly. You alert Ao’nung, both heading off after them all. Mounting your Ilus, you follow after them. Catching up to them, you see them slowing down moving into the plants to hide themselves. You join, not really sure what they were doing. You follow their gaze, Lo’ak? Payakan? You all watch as he enters his mouth. He bonded with him.
_
Lo’ak had gotten in trouble once more, leaving you to deal with your Father’s annoyed mood.
“I have told you to talk to him and you keep disregarding my words, why?”
Seeing Lo’ak getting an earful again made you exasperated with your father.
“If you gave him the chance to explain then maybe you can understand where he is coming from and have a reason why he does what he does.”
Jake had taken a deep breath feeling tired.
“Ma’eveng, I do not think it will make a difference if I talk to him.”
You shake your head in disappointment, storming off to the beach. You call an Ilu, getting on you swim towards a rock a distance away from the island. Climbing on to the rock as the Ilu swims away. Finally letting out the sigh of frustration you’ve been holding. You pick small pebbles off the rock, tossing them further and further into the water. You were so focused on throwing the rocks, and Ao’nung who was behind you thought that it would be a great idea to scare you.
He creeps up slowly, pouncing on your back. You were scared shitless, you turned without hesitation with a pebble in your hand whipping it at the perpetrator.
“OW, why did you do that?!”
It appeared that you hit Ao’nung. You held back a laugh seeing as he deserved it for scaring you.
“That was your fault for scaring me like that”
“You didn’t have to throw it that hard”
Sulking as he rubbed his forehead.
“You are acting like a prrnen”
Finally letting out a chuckle. You move aside leaving space for him to sit with you. Your mood had been lifted with Ao’nung’s presence being with you. He throws an arm over your shoulder curious about your actions.
“Why were you throwing rocks?”
Leaning into his body, blowing air out of your nose.
“Things have just been stressful lately that is all”
He thought of an idea that would perk you up. He stood lending you a hand to stand as well. You give him a confused look. He told you to follow him while calling the Ilu’s. Mounting them you guys head off to wherever he was leading you. You kept asking what it was he was planning but he ignored you and gave you a smile.
Making it to the destination you look around in amazement. There was an arch of rocks and plants, in the middle a large plant.
“You weren’t able to see this when Tsireya took the others to come see it. This is our sacred place, our spirit tree.”
Coming at the right time of day, an eclipse had taken over the sky. You watch as everything starts to glow, including the tree under water. The colour was so vibrant and bright you couldn’t take your eyes off it. Diving down, slowly making your way to the tree. Floating, you grab your kuru giving Ao’nung a small glance before attaching it to the tree. Feeling the connection and transfer, light is all you see for a second before letting your eyes adjust. Once the light faded, you saw you were back home, the forest.
You run through the plants, jumping and climbing on top of trees. It felt like everything never changed. You thought about how Ao’nung would struggle keeping up with you and it made you chuckle. You didn’t want to leave but you had to eventually. DIsconnecting your queue, a small smile frames your face. You see that Ao’nung was waiting for you at the surface. Swimming back up, you realise most times spent with Ao’nung was during the eclipse.
The sun and moon only come together during the days of the eclipse despite their differences
_
Shouting, anger, sorrow. The day Ronal’s spirit sister and her calf was found floating on the surface unmoving. You could not fathom how much disgust was spilling out of your system. You knew the RDA was cruel but to kill a Tulkun, a sister, made you physically sick. The clan yelling in wrath, you could only hold Ao’nung’s arm for comfort. You had finally thought you were safe but dreams are only dreams.
Your father tells them to warn the Tulkun to go away. They will destroy everything you love. The tracker being a mark of death. You watch as Lo’ak sneaks away to the Ilus. You notify Ao’nung and the rest. As the clan disperse to warn the Tulkun, the rest of you go to stop Lo’ak.
It didn’t work, now following after your brother. You all reach the three brother rocks. You see the tracker on payakans side. Everyone rushed to help Lo’ak, getting on top of him and pulling hard to detach the tracker. Spotting the large uran heading towards all of you only urged you all to pull harder. You cry out one last time before finally getting the tracker out.
“GO. I’ll take this and lead them away.”
Ao’nung refused not wanting to separate with you. You pushed him away promising him you’ll reunite soon enough. Groaning in frustration he gave you a chaste kiss on your head before joining the others. You jump onto your Ilu carrying the tracker away from payakan and the rest. Unfortunately the sawtute akawng released their machines upon you all. Desperately trying to avoid the machines by weaving through the coral and plants. Being chased, a shadow overcame you, being pulled out of the water from an Ikran. You hiss, thrashing to get out of its tight grasp.
You were thrown harshly onto the cold surface of the uran. You quickly stood up just to be slammed down again. You were being dragged to the railing while struggling to escape their grip. Your ears folded seeing your siblings being dragged as well. With all your strength, you turn, gripping the uniltìrantokx, flipping them over. You unsheath your blade running towards the others. You were able to kill one of the recoms before they attacked you, getting captured again.
Restraints snapped onto your wrists then attached to the railings. Giving out one more strained hiss before turning to check on your siblings and Tsireya.
_
Quaritch was holding you at gunpoint while speaking to your father. The gun shot off grazing your arm showing Jake that this was no joke. Your ears were ringing, you were terrified but stayed strong not wanting to seem vulnerable. Your father slowly approached before payakan burst through the water landing on the uran. War was set in motion, you and Lo’ak kick one of the machines to be crushed under payakans fins. Payakan then slipped off leaving you guys still restrained.
The uran abruptly ran forward heading to the rocks. As it hit the rocks you all went flying, the restraints being the only things keeping you down. As it lands, Neteyam boarded, running towards the lot of you. One by one he cuts the restraints, freeing all of you now ready to escape to safety. Lo’ak yelled that we needed to go back to retrieve the spider. You weren’t very fond of spider as he was a tawtute, but you know the bond he shares with your younger siblings. You tell Neteyam to join Tuk and Tsireya while you go with Lo’ak to get spider.
Climbing the beams, you spot Spider surrounded by other tawtute. Waiting for them to walk right below you, you drop down, throwing one overboard and stabbing another. Lo’ak took care of the others before one grabbed their gun pointing it to you. A shot fired, burrowing into the skin of your arm. You bit down on your lower lip suppressing a scream of pain. Lo’ak shot the man, turning to you immediately, worrying face taking over.
You wave him off saying that you’re okay. Your body was running off adrenaline from the gunshot wound. Grabbing Spider by the shoulder, you usher them off to the moon pools. It appeared that other uniltìrantokx had caught up, opening fire at the three of you. You all jump for cover behind the metal. Snatching the gun from Lo’aks grasp, you tell them to run and jump into the water once you start shooting. Lo’ak didn’t want to leave you because of your injury but you shook him off telling him to go now. You turn, raising the gun firing back at the recom. As Lo’ak and Spider jump into the water, you take a brief pause, trying to time your escape.
The blood leaking from your arm was making you feel hazy. You brush the feeling off trying to focus once more to time your jumping. The shooting stopped for a second, you took the chance to run. The dizziness hit you like a truck as you were running mid way through. Guns opened fire once more. As you jump, you feel an abnormal pressure in your chest and stomach. Hitting the water hard, shock from the cold water filling your senses. You desperately try to reach the surface of the water.
“I’ve been shot Lo’ak!”
You wheezed out as loud as you could. Blood leaves your body faster than before through the three holes decorating your body. Lo’ak cusses out swimming frantically to you. He calls his Ilu, lifting you on top before climbing on himself. You start seeing black spots taking over your vision, a distant voice of Lo’ak crying to stay awake a little longer.
“DAD! SHE'S BEEN SHOT”
Ao’nung had been near your father assisting him in the war. When he heard the words leave Lo’aks mouth with you in his arms, his heart dropped and blood running cold. The darkness from the eclipse made the scene even more terrifying. They grab your body pulling it onto the rock. You were barely holding on, just wanting to see everyone. The gun wounds are constantly releasing blood even with pressure holding it down from your father, Lo’ak, and Ao’nung. Ao’nung caressed your face, tears running down his cheeks seeing you struggle to breathe.
“Ma’tsawke, please do not close your eyes.”
Jake could only stare knowing there was nothing he could do. Three wounds, with exits, there was no way to save you. He could only give you a soft look to keep you at ease. He lay his hands on your arm and hand. You hold his hand afraid of what may come. Ao’nung had sobs racking his body not wanting to believe that you were slipping away.
“Y-you still need to show me the forest, and-and teach me your ways”
You weakly bring your other hand up to his cheek. You speak with everything you have left in you. You whisper to him gently.
“Ma’oare, oel ngati… kameie”
You smile taking your last breath, happy you could tell him before you left. The eclipse came to an end, sun shining over your body as your spirit joined with the great mother. Ao’nung went numb along with your father. You could not hear the screams of wrath and despair in your mothers voice. Not hearing the sobs from your brothers. Everything was quiet.
An eclipse doesn’t last forever. It separates the sun and moon. They now await for the next eclipse to finally join together once more.
_
(I suggest listening to Tin Lover by The Paper Kites)
The war was over. Your family came back to recover your body as it layed peacefully on the rocks. Bringing your body to the islands, your parents washing off the blood that covers your pale blue complexion.
They place your cold body into a large leaf that is decorated with flowers. The family slowly emerges in the water deeper and deeper to an area of light. Ao’nung was not able to join, only to view from the sidelines. They stop on top of the beautiful bed of anemone, slowly bringing your body to touch the water. Jake and Neytiri give each other one last look, then emerge themselves in the water with your body. Gently guiding you to the light, they finally let go. You emerged with the anemone slowly sinking in deeper. Half of your family had tear stained faces as the other half were numb.
The moon shined bright tonight, but it was alone. Ao’nung followed your family to the sacred tree. They all dive into the water swimming towards the illuminating tree. He watches as they all attach their queues, ready to see their memories with you. Ao’nung felt nauseous, you watched you die in his arms. Having to face you, your spirit, he was hesitant. He finally connected his queue. Bright lights flashing before his eyes, it faded and he saw that he was surrounded by trees.
The forest. He saw a figure laying in the grass, his breath hitched. You were there, really there. You sit up hearing small steps, your head turning, you see your oare. You give him a wide smile.
“Look who decided to come to the forest!”
He felt like he was dreaming, his eyes were moist. You give him a worried look.
“Why are you crying Ma’oare?”
He shook his head, not able to answer. You rush over to him pulling him into an embrace. He wrapped his arms around your thin body. He was finally able to whisper out a few words.
“Oel ngati kameie Ma’tsawke”
You smile gently while you rub his back. Both sitting in silence in each other's embrace. An eclipse overcasts your bodies. The sun and moon were together once more.
The relationship between the sun and moon is an impossible love. The eclipse was the only thing bringing them together for a short while before being forced to separate once more. Ao’nung comes back every eclipse of every day to rejoin his sun as he was the moon.

I Almost Lost You... (Rotxo X Reader)
Not Requested.
*********************************************************************
I LOVE HIM BUT WHY IS HE SO CUTE??
*********************************************************************
Scenario: A review of how much Rotxo really loves you.
Warnings: Rotxo gets...violent, so be warned. There's fighting and blood and injuries.
Pairing: Rotxo X Fem! Reader.
Fem Reader Description: Click ---> LINK
*********************************************************************
Third Person POV
Rotxo wasn't too familiar with human hair, but he was familiar with long hair because of Tsireya's . whenever she needed her hair done, she sometimes asked Rotxo, because he was usually always with her and Aonung and was more convenient. At least, that's how it started, but eventually, he just started fixing her hair, and she let him. At first, Aonung used to tease them, calling them the "secret lovers," until Rotxo met you. You were like Jake: an avatar, but you were turned full Na'vi too young. In the war between the Metkayina and a recombinant Quaritch, you'd been shot, taking the bullet meant for Neteyam. The oldest Sully kid had screamed himself hoarse at you, a shock against his usually gentle nature. He'd screamed and cried, calling you stupid, why would you do that, what the hell is wrong with you, until you'd cried, telling him that he was more important, what would Tuk do without you, or your mother and brother and sister? But Jake forced (not really) Norm to make you a recom as well, bringing you back from the brink of death.
Rotxo was...shaken, to say the least, and everyone was a little surprised. He hadn't shown that much interest until you showed up, and the moment you were shot and he found out, oh, boy. He flipped, like a switch, going straight after the guy that shot you. Or, he tried to, but Neteyam and Aonung wouldn't let him. That was the first time Rotxo had willingly punched Neteyam in the face, trying to get to the guy, vision blacked out with anger as you lay behind them, bleeding, as Norm tried to save you. Jake was there, as was Neytiri, Lo'ak, Kiri, Tuk, Tsireya.
Rotxo did apologize later for punching Neteyam, but Neteyam, at the time, hadn't even flinched, really, just kept pushing Rotxo back.
The last straw was the guy laughing at the scene like he didn't care. At that point, Aonung had looked once at Tsireya...and he backed up. And Rotxo bolted. "Rotxo, no!" Tsireya shouted, drawing attention, but it was too late.
Rotxo raced for the ship, hearing Tsireya shouting his name and someone (he wasn't sure who) coming after him. He leaped from ilu to ship, feet slamming into one of the human men and sending him flying off the side before he ducked from some sort of sixth sense and grabbed the gun aimed at his face, yanking it from the hands of the man, and slamming it sideways into the man's face without even thinking. The man crumpled, head bleeding, and Rotxo swung again, breaking another's nose. The man cried out, dropping to his knees, and Rotxo hissed, slamming the butt into his face, knocking him out. Tsireya and Aonung stared, stunned, like the others, as Rotxo fought, all alone, against at least thirty humans.
He hit another in the face, knees dropping to the metal deck as he fell with him, punching him again.
"All this for some girl?!" One of the men screamed. Rotxo froze, breath catching. All this for some girl?! He turned slowly, like some sort of movie villain, eyes cold. Tsireya shuddered just seeing it. Rotxo stood, taller than the man. The man gulped, eyes wide. "She is not some girl," Rotxo spit, hands curling into fists. "She is a Sully, and she is far better than you." He hissed, ears laid flat. "The Sullys are worthless," The man spit. He didn't finish before Rotxo knocked him flat. "Don't touch the Sullys," He snarled, tail thrashing. There was only three men left. They shared a look. One tossed his gun, which clattered at Rotxo's feet. "C'mon." He said, backing away from Rotxo. The other two dropped their guns, raising their hands, and turned, bolting. One actually tripped climbing over the railing.
Rotxo turned, seeing the others staring, wide-eyed. "Holy, shit." Lo'ak said in the silence. Another voice made him freeze. "Rotxo?" You asked, blinking, dazed.
He moved before he could think, running to you and dropping to his knees. "Oh, my God, are you okay? Are you hurt?" He started rambling at top speed, and you just blinked at him, confused. "I'm fine," You whispered, then remembered being shot and gasped, yanking your shirt off your shoulder, peering at the skin. It was blue, scattered with your Avatar's syuratan, the glowing, bioluminescent dots. "What---" "It's okay, you're okay." Rotxo breathed, and started to cry as he hugged you.
Your heart squeezed as you hugged him back. "Shh, I'm okay," You whispered, face buried in his neck. Neytiri watched, a smile on her face. The family knew you'd been attracted to Rotxo, and vice versa, since you'd both met. He couldn't stop seeing you, couldn't stop talking to you, and you wouldn't shut up about him. "Rotxo, I--" You began, but then he was kissing you, gently and softly, and you forgot about everything else.
Even Aonung and Lo'ak pretending to puke behind you both. "I See you," Rotxo whispered, nose pressed to yours. "I See You," You whispered back. Rotxo stood, turning to Neteyam. "Sorry for punching you...earlier." Neteyam blinked, his gold eyes moving from him to you. "It's fine. I understand. Thank you for protecting my sister," He smiled sweetly. You stood, fingers curling around Rotxo's. "Yeah. Thanks." You kissed his cheek.
He smiled. "Always, Y/N."

Spixo?? Roter?? Tf are they called??
Anyway
Rotxo has identity issues and has a crisis when the Sully kids show up
They're different. They aren't of their people and they're weird - they have extra fingers, tufts of hair over their eyes, their skin is dark, their eyes the wrong size, their tails too thin - he could go on
Yet they're so proud
There's a sense of purpose in them, they aren't quite kids like he, Ao'nung, or Tsireya are.
It scares the hell out of him
He lashes out at Lo'ak and Kiri, goes for their weaknesses when Ao'nung does
He wants them to leave, take their war with them, and let his family stay safe and tucked away on their beaches
They don't, clearly, and yet he comes to care for them
They're freaks but they're his freaks
Tsireya coming home with blood on her hands, teary cheeks, and Lo'ak in her arms terrifies him. However much he grew up that day he thinks she did double
Ao'nung is suddenly fast tracking his apprenticeship as Olo'eyktan
And he's left behind
Spider comes with the worst day of his life thus far
He once would have gutted anyone who said he would accept a sky person in his home but so much has changed and he can't bring himself to do anything without Ao'nung there to lead him
So he throws himself into his training, wanting to stop what happened to him and his friends from ever happening here
If what happened in the forests happened here he thinks it would kill him
Then Jake convinces Tonowari to let them use a gun
Tonowari - the man who is practically a second father to him after growing up between his children, who hated this war more than anyone he knew, who barely let them use offensive moves before their 15th year - is scared for them
He's awful with a gun
Metkayina kids don't get to carry a gun, it's not allowed to be their primary weapon, it's only for emergencies, but he saw what happened to Neteyam and he needs to know how to use it
He's off in the woods along their beaches trying to practice. Training was over hours ago but he doesn't take to it like the older kids (he and Ao'nung are the youngest learning right now - they strong armed their way in and he thinks it broke Tonowari a little bit inside)
Every shot is just a little off, he can't get the target quite right
Metyakina are spear wielders, their weapons bring them close to their enemies and they use their strength to bring them down. Bows are a necessity but archers are few in the specialty: it's just not what they do
The gun is heavy in his hands, hard to balance and kicks back every time he tries to shoot
Why the hell a weapon bites the user he has no fucking clue -
"Brace your back foot. You're leaning too much, it's not a harpoon."
...
Rotxo will swear for the decades to come that he did not jump, fuck you-
Then the little sky-person is there
He met Spider when they brought him home
The boy was pale, thin beyond what he suspected was natural if the slight sway to his stance had anything to say. He was mottled in bruises and striped with scars but there was a feral strength in the kids eyes
He stuck close to the Sully kids, blended right into the little pack they made up
The other kids flanked him at nearly all times. He never saw the blonde alone and they seemed happy that way. The kid was haunted but he guesses they all are now
They didn't talk much. Lo'ak threatened him with raw fear in his eye that if he and Ao'nung even tried an ounce of what they did to him then peace talks and found friendships be damned, he'd make them regret it
Spider would hang out with them, but he didn't talk much. Most of the others still resented him. They feared him or hated him and Rotxo suspects he knew that
That said, he doesn't know what to do when Spider walks up and forces his gun down to his level
He moves his hands, steps back and adjusts his stance, then steps back with an approving nod.
"Alright. Aim a little lower, you aren't in the green. Shoot, it'll be better."
He hits the target in the neck, then the tree behind it. The gut the third time.
"Uh..thanks."

Requesting for a fluff angst story of fem!metkayina!reader (I think that’s how you say it?) and Aonung.
One night Aonung wakes up to reader talking in her sleep and she’s making suggestive noises and mumbling “oh baby” but he knows that reader knows that he hates being called baby! Now he thinks reader is fantasizing about another Navi other than him, making him jealous and being distant towards reader for a day until reader corners him in their mauri and makes Aonung explain whys he’s being so cold to her. Which he reluctantly explains and reader tells him that she was dreaming about a funny dream of a Tulkun named baby.(idk you can change it if you want! 🤭) then it ends with a bunch of cuddles and reassurance making sure Aonung knows that reader is the only Navi she wants! So basically a bunch of fluff at the end!
(Hopefully this makes sense! Please don’t rush I know being a writer can be stressful so take your time if you do end up writing this 🙃)
Hello sweetie! Thank you for this request! honestly reading your idea made me laugh a bit. Hopefully this can satisfy your reading thirst! Enjoy!

Unil
[god this gif is big]
Night as arrived for pandora. The Metkayina clan was getting things done as the day has ended. Many fellow na'vi heading to their homes, saying their goodnights to their beloved tulkun brothers and sisters. That day the tulkuns have come to visit them The excitement tired them out but look forward to see them again tomorrow.
Ao'nung finished his duties and made his way to his beloved's mauri. His parents let him sleep in their home or his beloved's, as the courting is going well.
Coming inside he sees his beloved preparing for them to sleep. He smiles as he is happy to find such a wonderful mate. They haven't mated yet but he still calls her his mate. His Unil. A pet name he will forever call her as. Which means 'dream'. Sure she likes to sleep a lot and would tell him of many dreams she has, he loves to listen to them. Many of her dreams are vastly different and no two are the same or repeated. He never gets tired of hearing what she dreamed about.
His beloved turns and smiles lovingly at him. Gesturing to get closer, he does and wraps his strong arms around her waist, pulling her close. "long day my love?" she asks softly, he nods as he buries his face into her neck, taking in her ocean scent. A smell he will never get tired of.
Not saying anymore, she leads him to their shared hammock, guiding him to lay down, taking off the band that tied his hair, letting it fall down on his shoulders.
Blowing away the light of the lantern, Unil joined her beloved and lied down beside him. Ao'nung wrapping his arms around unil, bringing her close to his chest, the need to feel her body against his. Unil getting comfy and lets herself drift off to sleep.
Throughout the night it was silent and peaceful, until ao'nung woke up to unil...talking her in sleep? He looked down at her face, she was smiled, pleased at something. Giggling even!
He grew curious on what was making her giggling so much. Could she be dreaming about him? Knowing the sounds unil makes, he probably wont get some shut eye soon, so he he listens to hear and guess what his beloved is dreaming.
"mmnn......*giggles* no no prrnen....haha...."
ao'nung didnt move for a good solid minute. Prrnen? That is a pet name ao'nung hates with his very being! Unil at times would attempt to call him that but he would explain he hates that name. A childish name and something he doesnt want to be associated with. So if it's not ao'nung she is calling in her dream, then who is it?
"no no prrnen....slow down....*giggles* yes like that....I love you" unil continues on in her sleep. With each moan and giggle she makes, ao'nung gets more angry. To him, it sounds like she is dreaming of another na'vi. That thought make him even angrier. Was he not enough for unil? Was he not the best warrior Eywa could give to unil? Was he not strong enough? Not impressive enough? So many questions ran in his head, thinking what could make his beloved think of another man when she is in his arms.
Morning came and the people has risen to prepare for another day. Unil woke up and stretched her limbs, hearing some of her bones pop. "MMnnn~!!! good morning my love, did you sleep well-oh, up so early?" she looks to see ao'nung full up and preparing his tools. "yeah, I didnt get much sleep last night..." he said in a a rather distant voice. "what happened? did you have a nightmare?" concerned she went over to her mate.
But when she touched his shoulder, he pulled away. Unil was surprised by this. He was never to reject her touch, why now? "well, how about some breakfast before getting on with our day?" she tried again, hopping to bring him in a calm level. "don't bother, I already ate" and with that he left her mauri.
Unil was in a mix of emotions. They always woke up together, always ate breakfast together before going to do their duties to the clan. It was so strange and it wasn't a welcoming one either. But for the moment she didn't pursue him. Perhaps he needed some time to himself. It happens.
But never for 3 days straight.
Unil was at the end of her wits. After that morning ao'nung never went back to sleep the night with her. Didnt bother to check on her, talk to her, nothing! and they always do things together. She didnt want to spend another night knowing ao'nung is like that with her.
Of course she also didnt want to bring his parents into the matter, feeling it would get worse. So as a grown woman and a mate, she wants to handle the matter on her own. Unless it gets too much then she will tap out.
So during the mid day she she did her duties quickly and went to find ao'nung. But where the hell was he? She looked everywhere for him! at the ilu pen, with the cooks, in the little jungle, around the reef, asked everyone around and not a sight to be hold.
But she managed to find rotxo and went to ask him where ao'nung was. Rotxo frowned a bit "I really dont know either unil. He seems upset these past days, has something happened between you two?" he asks. Unil sighed, "I am not sure. He just became like that three days ago. I want to know whats wrong so I can fix it". Rotxo pitied unil, she was a good mate for ao'nung, "I wish I could help you, I really do".
"its ok rotxo. Thank you either way".
Rotxo offered her a hug and she accepted. Both not knowing a certain pair of eyes were watching them closely.
Not able to stand it, ao'nung came out from the vegetation and marched straight to the two. "and what are you doing with her? hm? best you back off rotxo!" ao'nung pushed his friend away, rather roughly. "Ao'nung! what is the matter with you!? he is your best friend!" hissed unil, trying to get some distance between the boys.
"What is the matter with you!? you have acting weird recently! it has unil and me worried bro!" rotxo shouted. Unil was quick to help him up, though rotxo made the mistake of smiling softly at unil. It made ao'nung more pissed off.
Charging at him again, he pushed unil aside and went at it towards rotxo. Unil shouted and tried to pull him off, she really didnt want to do it but she grabbed and pulled his queue which made ao'nung hiss in pain and backs away.
"what are you doing?!" he yells but was quick to be silent as unil smacks him across the face. For him, it was as if time stopped. Unil never hit him before. Never layed a hand on him in such a way. He gently grabs the cheek that was hit and stares at his mate with wide eyes. His heart broke seeing her face scrunch in anger and tears flow from her eyes.
"YOU SKXAWNG!! what has been happening to you?! you are distant to me, being unreasonably violent towards rotxo! your best friend! tell me ao'nung! what happened that night? was it me? did I do something wrong?" so many questions escaped her lips as she cried out. She just wanted an answer, a reason behind his change of attitude.
Ao'nung took a moment in realization. Eyes moving from his friend to his mate. He sighs and confesses.
"that night in your mauri, you were giggling and laughing in your sleep. You said a prrnen! and you know I hate that name! so I thought you were dreaming of another man! a man that isnt me!" breathing out as if he was holding a long breathe.
Unil stopped crying, her eyes wide but now in slight confusion. Rotxo got up and did his best not to laugh. "prrnen? you heard me saying that?" she asks as she wipes her tears, the sadness now going away.
"yes! and I hate that name like I said! so I got mad! ok!? is that what you want to hear?!"
"yes actually"
unil and rotxo begin to laugh heartedly. Ao'nung was very confused. "oh my love, why didnt you tell me sooner? all this mess would have been avoided" unil smiles as she explains. "oh bro, haha! feeling jealous over a little baby?" rotxo teased. "baby? what baby? wait, ARE YOU PREGNANT?!" ao'nung shouted. He quickly did some numbers in his head, yes they done it before but not as recently for his mate to be pregnant.
Though that question made the other two laugh even louder, rotxo falling on his back and unil bends down trying to catch her breathe. Ao'nung was starting to feel embarrassed and not understanding.
Collecting herself, unil grabs his hand and leads him to the waters. "come my love, an explanation is very much over due", nodding he joins. Rotxo tagged along to see the outcome of it.
Bit deeper in the reef the three see miklor, unil's spirit sister. But something was new, at least to ao'nung. Closely next to miklor is a little baby tulkun. Getting closer, unil and miklor greet each other, same for rotxo and ao'nung.
"sister! may ao'nung see little prrnen?" unil asks in the sign language. "of course sister, I trust him enough" miklor responds. Unil gestures her mate to come closer, to which he does. At the same time, miklor guides her baby closer to him. "My love, this is prrnen, the one I was dreaming about" unil explain. "miklor had her baby this past spring and I was playing with them both. My dream reflected that day my love"
Everything now all clicked in his brain. Yes, three days ago the tulkun came, and unil spent the majority of the day meeting and catching up with her spirit sister. Ao'nung spent his time with his spirit brother, so he didnt see miklor at all.
His inner thoughts were interrupted when prrnen was carefully nudging him. Asking to play. And play they did. Prrnen was a sweet little one, having the energy of 20 young na'vi. They all played games, danced and sang. Until night came, saying their goodnights to miklor and prrnen they went back to the shore.
"I am very sorry rotxo, I acted like a fool" ao'nung apoligized, his best friend accepted but lectured him to hear things out before jumping to conclusions. With that, rotxo left to go home.
"do you want to..sleep with me tonight?" unil asked nervously. "Always my love" he smiled making her smile in return. Holding hands, they make their way to unil's mauri. "prrnen the tulkun baby......haha, thinking it now, I am such a skawng. I shouldnt let my anger beat my judgment. I am sorry unil, I really am" ao'nung stared deep into unil's ocean eyes, being sincere and truthful. She smiles warmly, "I know my love, I forgive you". Feeling the weight lift off his shoulders, ao'nung hugs her tightly. Eywa truly blessed him such a kind woman.
Holding hands, they continue their way home. For another night of being together, cuddling, and giving kisses to each other. And hopefully no more misunderstandings for the mean time.
And that is all for this one! I hope you all enjoyed it! until next time!
prrnen = baby, infant
miklor = pleasant sounding, beautiful sounding
skawng = moron
unil = dream

A new begining
staring : Neteyam sully, Y/n, Ao’nung
warnings : cursing, smut : oral m recieving, jerking off, moaning, whimpering, slight cheating? edging??? kinda idk 🤷🏾♀️
You and your beloved Neteyam's family have been in Awa'atlu for a month in search of uturu. A month since you stepped upon the sandy waves of Metkayina Beach. A month since you stepped into a fresh start.
You mated with Neteyam a few days after your arrival. Everything was going swimmingly. Neteyam was flawless at almost everything. and when you arrived, he became much more so, already achieving his iknimiya, - recieving the present of a tattoo on the side of his hip - just like he did back home : fighting alongside the most prized warriors of the clan. What more was there to ask for? Everything was going well, and you praised Eywa every day for such a wonderful blessing.
You both settled in the Marui created by Neteyam himself as an early anniversary gift, sitting on a remote stretch of beach, adjacent to the forest that luminated your marui at night, reminiscent of the omaticaya forest. Neteyam would always make certain that you both never forgot your true home, no matter how far away you were.
That's how you slept. Everynight. Nestled in Neteyam's arms, peering up at the sky. You mumbled a sweet “thank you, Eywa” before drifting off into deep slumber. Everything was perfectly taken care of.
You stretched your arms wide as you awoke to the subtle rustle of loincloths in your marui. "mmmmmh... tey...?" you mumbled, wondering how you could extend out so far. Neteyam's arms would normally be wrapped around you. Tight.
Neteyam hurried over to you, not too quickly, leaving a little peck on your brow. "I'm here my love, don't worry, I wouldn't leave you without saying anything," he grinned, following little kisses down your cheek... jawline... and then your neck.
Your eyelids gently close, letting out an unintentional moan. Neteyam softly eased himself away from your neck. "mawey (calm down), sevin, you just woke up. I don't want to put you back to sleep just yet," he teased.
"That's not fair, Tey. You know your kisses always turn me on" you flicked his temple gently, crossing your arms, brows furrowed, carrying a grudge.
"You're like a child, Sevin; you'll get what you want. Just a moment, please. I understand how badly you want me. I always do. But I know you won't be able to handle me first thing in the morning," he said as he rose from your bed and returned to the loincloths.
You observed him select his favourite. the one you created. A reward for completing his iknimiya and finding his position within the metkayina clan.
Woven gently with fish scale leather, custom coloured seagrass, and embellished with thick leather and polished stone beads obtained from the deepest parts of the ocean, of course, by you.
"You always wear that one, i don’t even know how many times have I washed it" Finally, you sat up in your bed, watching him untie the loincloth he was already wearing.
"How can I not put this on? It's the most valuable one I've got. And you made it, so why not wear it?"
"All right, fine. put it on then" You avoided talking about it since you were so giddy that the only one he would wear was the one you made him.
"okay i will." He eventually untied both ends of his current loincloth and slowly drew it down. Your bottom lip was stuck between your teeth as your gaze moved eagerly from his lower half to his eyes.
“Your staring so intensly, sevin. Why don’t you come help take it off hm?” His loincloth was already a quarter-way down, his prominent V line exposed right in front of you, and you only.
"I'd love to help you out with that, Tey." You rose up and walked towards him, your hips swaying slightly.
You naively peered deep into his golden eyes while slowly lowering himself down till you were on your knees in front of him. With a tiny tug of your pointer finger, the loincloth dropped to the floor, bringing you face to face with Neteyam's massive cock. Your gaze was locked to his shaft, entranced.
“like what you see? How many times have you sucked this dick and you're still amazed?" He grinned, his hooded eyes fixed on your widening stare. You gave a little smile. The pre-cum already flowing out of the tip. You wrapped your little hands over his shaft, smearing the pre-cum around his tip with your thumb.
Neteyam groaned and whimpered. His eyes quickly closed due to the sensitivity. Using this as an opportunity, you used your tongue's wetness to lubricate his entire cock while your own wetness pooled in your loincloth.
You drew back, and with your hands wrapped around his cock, began slowly stroking him off before sliding his cock into the heat of your mouth, swirling your tongue around his tip like a lollipop. "mmm y/n..i-" was all he could manage to let out.
“Shhh nete. let me take care of you.” and with that you began to bob your head up and down his shaft, your hand taking care of the length that you couldn’t fit inside your mouth.
Neteyam used his hand to pull your hair into a ponytail. "mmmm... I feel s-so.... good-" He tried to find the right words.
You took advantage of this by clenching your throat around the remainder of his cock . As his eyes rolled back and his mouth agape, he let out a series of groans.
“m’gonna- shit. gonna cum down this t-tight throat.. fuck” it wasn’t long till his seed spilled down your throat, not even giving you the opportunity to swallow.
You kept bobbing your head up and down his shaft, overstimulating him. "ah-hah... mmmmh," his pants and gasping could be heard across the room. Making people who happen to stroll through your marui exceedingly unlucky.
You slipped his cock out of your mouth, a strand of his cum clinging to your tongue. You popped off of his cock with a 'pop’ sound.
Neteyam could only mumble 'oh my.. fucking eywa' as he let go of your ponytail, allowing your hair to tumble to your shoulders. You licked the corners of your cum stained mouth as you looked up at his lust-filled eyes.
You slipped up his thighs with the loincloth you made him. You licked his tip once more and slid his cock inside his loincloth. while all this time, looking into his eyes.
You stepped up and instantly put your lips against his, kissing him gently. You could tell he was exhausted because you allowed your tongue wander inside his lips as you intensified the kiss. Finally, drawing back.
"You tasted so good, I just wanted you to try it," you remarked honestly. He smirked at your antics. "mmm thank you y/n, I'm not sure what I'd do without you..."
You were sat on the other, more populated, side of the beach. where you first landed with your mate and his family, the breeze brushed past your face softly and the tide of the ocean brushed up your legs every once and a while.
while finishing the last stitch on your skirt, which has been embroidered with the finest crystals from the forest back home. You'd been working on it for months and had finally found the time to finish it.
You were so focused on getting the final stitch perfect that you didn't notice ao'nung approaching behind you.
“boo.” You startled a little before turning around with your hand on your hip, ready to draw out your knife. "Ao'nung, what the fuck?" you said, deadpanning. You weren't amused by his small joke, whereas he was laughing his head off.
"Shit y/n, you look like you just saw a palulukan," he continued to chuckle. "Yeah, okay, very funny," you still had the most straight faces ever.
"I don't think you're funny, and I have no plans to continue this conversation." Especially after almost leaving my brother-in-law to die outside the reef." You gathered your belongings and hurried off, anxious to locate your mate, for he was the only one who could stop you from strangling Ao'nung right now.
You didn't like Ao'nung from the moment you stepped foot on this beach; he made your mates and his siblings' lives a living hell, and it irritated you even more that he had the audacity to almost have your brother in law murdered.
"woah, slow down, yawntutsyp, I just wanted to apologise-" before he could finish, you drew your knife at him. putting it precisely at his neck. "No, I am not. your "yawntutsyp" Never, ever, ever call me that again. Got it?" Your brow furrowed as you glared angrily into his eyes.
"All right, all right, I'm sorry," he said as he raised his hands in surrender. "I just wanted to apologise because I know you've never liked me," you cut him off once more.
"And I never will, Ao'nung." With your final words, you pressed your knife on his throat. He'd be dead in one move.
"Can you-chill. Put the knife in its sheath. Killing me now wouldn't be a good idea, would it? Two wrongs do not equal a right." He grinned, his hands still raised, patiently waiting for you to listen”.
You complied, returning the weapon to its sheath on your hip. ready to leave. "Shouldn't we start over?" We'd be great friends." Ao'nung made the suggestion on the impulse.
You sighed and rolled your eyes up towards the sky. You groaned and said, "Ao'nung." "Yes, Y/n," he said right away. "It's not my place to accept your apology, and even if it was, I wouldn't dare" your objective was to hurry home before doing anything you'd later regret. Your patience was growing thin, and you had better things to do than listen to this skxawng.
Ao'nung approaches you, face to face. It appeared nearly intimate because he was so close. "I'm not finished yet."
“Ao’nung. I don't care if you finished or not, let me go home-" Ao'nung pressed his finger over your mouth before you could finish.
"You have something on your mouth." He wiped away the white dried up spot with the tip of his thumb.
"It appears that..." You came in before he could finish. "um. no, it's just..." you couldn't finish your sentence.
Ao'nung came closer to your ear, whispered gently for only you to hear: "How about instead of Neteyams, I let my cum drip down your throat and onto your lips. After all, I'm sure you'd rather have me fuck you. I'm confident I could do a greater job than he could."

Make Your Heart Beat Stronger - Part 1
Rotxo x Medic in Training!Metkayina!GN!Reader Angst
Description: Rotxo seems to like you, but you can’t help the anger within you.
Timeline begins before the Sully’s got to Awa’atlu
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Warnings: angst obviously, unrequited love, more to be added later
Word count: 612
God how you hate everything right now. Everyone and everything seems to be too much. “Hey —— could you feed the Ilu?” “Hey —— could you come take a look at this mark?” “Hey —— could you go pick some herbs?” All the requests kept piling on top of you, it felt suffocating.
You envied the ones who had time to laugh, the ones who were just meant to look nice for the clan, the ones who could relax. You envied people like Tsireya and Ao’nung’s friends. Especially Rotxo. I mean c’mon. Best friend of the chief’s son? All the privileges of the chief’s son with none of those same responsibilities. It wasn’t fair.
Everytime he laughed, you could feel your blood boil. Why was life so much easier for him? Why couldn’t you laugh? Why were you not allowed to stop? And no, you didn’t mean to hate Rotxo for it, but sometimes you could just feel the resentment bubbling. And it feels so selfish, to hate one of your clan members because of how hard you worked.
You could easily ask for some time for yourself or just tell people no. But you didn’t. You never did. Maybe you actually resented yourself? Maybe. But right now, all you could feel was anger.
Rotxo had pulled you aside on the beach, and now you two stood on some rocks alone. He stood bowing before you with a flower in outstretched hands. The flower was pretty, but it wasn’t your favorite. Nobody knew what your favorite was because you never had time to stop and look at them. And that made you even angrier.
He looked up at you as you scoffed at him. Tears of anger ran down your face, wanting to hit him but knowing its against your code of honor. You tried to speak, a sob coming out as soon as you do. You could feel yourself choking and you hated it. You weren’t allowed to break. Especially not in front of somebody.
Finally you managed to force out the words that truly embodied your pain, and some that you would come to regret. “ARE YOU SERIOUS?! WHY WOULD I GO OUT WITH YOU? YOU ARE JUST SOME TROUBLE MAKER WHO ONLY GETS AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE HE’S THE FUTURE CHIEF’S LAP DOG. I DO EVERYTHING AROUND HERE. I TREAT THE PEOPLE, I FEED THE FISH, I PICK THE HERBS, I WAKE BEFORE AND SLEEP AFTER EVERYONE. THIS FLOWER IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MY FAVORITE BUT OF COURSE NOBODY KNOWS THAT. I NEVER GET A SECOND TO ENJOY LIFE BUT YOU DON’T EVEN NOTICE IT. YOU ARE, AND I MEAN THIS WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING, NOTHING. YOU ARE NOTHING TO ME. I CAN’T STAND YOU. YOUR LAUGH, YOUR SMILE, YOUR JOKES, ALL OF IT. I HATE IT. I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU.”
You gasped for air, having forgotten to breathe through your entire rant. When you looked at Rotxo, you could see his heart breaking more every second he looks at you. You flinched, knowing you hurt him so badly. “Rotxo, I— I didn’t mean t—”
“Please, don’t say anything else. It’s fine. I’ll leave you alone from now on.”
You fell to the ground, staring at his back as he walked away. The tears began to flow again, and you knew you messed up this time. The flower, sitting beside you as he had dropped it during your speech. You picked it up and stared at it, a familiar flower that grew around the island. As you twisted and turned it, you remembered its medicinal treatment.
It’s used to make the heart stronger.

Size Difference
Spider is tiny next to Rotxo and it terrifies him
He’s short for a na’vi, around 8’8 as opposed to pushing 9’3 to 9’6 but he’s bulky. Metkayina are slim and nimble but his muscle adds a sturdiness to him uncommon for his people
Still, he’s a almost two and a half foot taller than his boyfriend
At first it was nothing. He’s 15 and his hand reaches half way around Spiders thigh when they wrestle, his other hand easily encapsulating his calf. Spider is hard to catch but if Rotxo can, he can easily out strengthen him
It’s fun. It’s as close to carefree as they can be in a war
Sure, Rotxo sees the bruises and scuffs more on Spider than the others but the blonde wears them with pride. His siblings scoff at him and add poultice - rubs he learns the herbs for and will gather himself - but he thinks nothing of it
The sky people haunted his dreams growing up. The other boys dared them to come down and face them, but Rotxo fought tears every night when laid down after those stories. His mothers would wrap him in their arms and whisper they’ll never come. But they did.
Spider is different. He’s not theirs, he’s Ewyas child through and through. But while they’re young, he’s invincible
He wears scars of torture na’vi children wouldn’t face even in nightmares but he laughs and fights and plays just like the other Sully kids
He doesn’t realize for years that they were just grasping at what was left
They’re 18 when he realizes the strength he holds over the other
They’ve been courting a few months, slower than most due to the differences between them, and Rotxo finally manages to pin him down in their training
Spider never lets himself get brought down. But Rotxo knows him too well - he knows what to expect and finally, finally he manages to get the upper hand
He pins Spider down with one hand to his chest. Then, he twists until he straddles his thighs. A teasing grin adorns his features and be dramatically goes to deliver a killing blow
He wraps a hand around Spiders throat with all the playful theatrics that normally make up their relationship - but he stills when he realizes his fingers easily reach one another behind his head
His entire neck fits easily in Rotxos palm, his chest is covered by the other hand and he knows it would take just a little pressure to end him
The sky people aren’t so invincible anymore
Spider seems to realize the vulnerability just before Rotxo, but he doesn’t run
Any other time he would growl, bite and kick and thrash until he gets himself out. But he just lays there
His cheeks are flushed a bright red and his lips slightly parted, but his body doesn’t tense
He trusts him and that’s more pressure than anyone could ever put on Rotxo
Officially mating is…a process to say the least. But it only reaffirms that Rotxo has to be strong enough to protect his family
Spider trusts him. He gave himself to Rotxo and took him in return. He knows Spider would die for him - he has to make sure he won’t
He’s protective, sure, though still not quite as bad as the humans siblings. Still, he spends all his time trying to bulk up and be stronger
Being a warrior was just a job once, now he finally feels the purpose in it

"Smell that, it's wet grass and smoke in my hair."
Chapter 4
<- previous chapter
Summary: Ao'nung feels overwhelmed, he worries too much about what his teammates will think about him, which ends up hurting other people. And where Kiri has a hard time at school, still being seen as the weird girl, but unexpectedly ends up meeting someone kind.
Notes: Hi!! As some of you may know, this chapter was originally more fluffy, but it didn't felt right tbh, sooooo now enjoy this angsty chapter!! ;)
Warnings: bully!ng
3,8k words approximately
It was around 9 AM, and the last thing Neteyam wanted to do was being in biology class, it felt like a sick joke after everything that happened the day before. But there he was, looking at his book and notebook on the desk without knowing what to do.
He tried to pay attention to the class and to get any bit of information to enter his brain, but he just hated that damn class, he isn't even planning on studying something related to biology anyway. So he just gave up and let his mind be free and think about anything else.
And his eyes landed directly on Ao'nung.
The curly haired boy seemed focused on his text book, it seemed like he understood every phrase and every question, and even weirder, it seemed like he was actually enjoying it. Neteyam didn't think that Ao'nung would be good in science, but well, he didn't actually knew much about him anyway
Which led him to think about the day before. They haven't talked about it, I mean, they haven't talked at all as usual, but Neteyam felt like he should say something, he should tell Ao'nung that he's grateful for his help. Maybe Ao'nung wasn't that bad after all
He spent the rest of the class drawing doodles on his notebook and eventually writing some things down, until the bell finally rang. Everyone got out of the classroom and dispersed around the school, he knew that the Metkayina would be at the school's gym playing with his friends, so that's where he'll go... after thinking about it for a minute .
The thing is; his mind was blank. He didn't know why, but he got nervous at last minute. He would ask him to talk, and then what? What would he say then?
ೃ༄*ੈ✩
Ao'nung grabbed his bottle of water while he and his friends from the team took a small break before continuing to play.
"Bro remember when that forest boy passed out yesterday?" Nash'vi, Ao'nung's not exactly dearest friend said laughing, just like the rest of their teammates when they remembered what happened to Neteyam. "He fell straight to the ground when we where just warming up, I wanted to laugh so bad." Another boy, Tsu'hak, agreed with him.
"Neteyam might be good at basketball, but he's still a freak just like Lo'ak and their weird sister. Right, Ao?" They turned to look at Ao'nung, who wasn't laughing, but quickly smiled and agreed.
"Ao'nung." They turned around and saw Neteyam walking towards them.
"Speaking of the devil." Tsu'hak said jokingly to Nash'vi as he looked at Neteyam. The rest of the boys dispersed to start playing again.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?"
Ao'nung could feel the eyes of his teammates looking at him as they whispered and laughed, making him anxious. "Uh, sure, let's go outside"
They stood right outside the gym, next to the entrance. Ao'nung knew that his friends were listening to them, so he couldn't be all nice to the freak of the school.
Easier said than done.
"So? What is it?" Ao'nung had an arrogant tone to his voice, his arms were crossed in his chest and Neteyam was already regretting this.
"Well, about yesterday…" Ao'nung laughed mockingly, interrupting him, and Neteyam just looked at him weirded out. Why was he acting like this? This wasn't the Ao'nung that was so nice to him the day before.
"When you dropped dead during practice? That was hilarious." Ao'nung heard some giggles from inside the gym. He made them laugh, that was good. "I guess not being in your natural habitat is getting to you."
"What is wrong with you?" He could tell Neteyam was hurt, he could see it in the way his eyes glistened. He was regretting this from the start, but he couldn't stop now, he knew everyone was listening to him.
"There's nothing wrong with me, forest boy." He noticed how Neteyam went from dejected, to immediately put a shield in between them and start being defensive. If Neteyam was being vulnerable just seconds ago, now that was completely gone. And it was Ao'nung's fault.
"Okay, if you wanna be an asshole, fine, i'm done with you" He raised his voice just enough to sound intimidating. He took a step forward so suddenly that made Ao'nung take a step backwards. "I just wanted to be polite and thank you for helping me yesterday after I dropped dead" He pressed a paper bag against Ao'nung's chest. "I bought you a lemon cake, you can eat it or throw it away, I don't fucking care anymore." Ao'nung looked at him speechless, he couldn't even dare to feel guilty, this was the consequence of his actions.
"Neteyam…" Before he could process it, the boy was already walking away.
He heard his teammates talking and laughing, and that's what he intended, to make them laugh, to be fun and careless as always, but now it felt bitter, now he realized how much of an idiot he was.
ೃ༄*ੈ✩
Neteyam walked hurriedly through the hallways and went into the bathroom and locked himself in a stall. Once he was alone and didn't heard any noise from the outside, he finally breathed out and let out a sob, muting it with the back of his hand.
He often felt distant from everyone else, he felt distant from Lo'ak, even though he loved his baby brother and wanted to be closer with him, just like when they were younger. But as they grew older, they grew apart.
He often felt distant from people his age, he never had many friends growing up, and when he became a teenager, his main focus became studying and his family. He wanted to make them proud and study hard to get into a good university, but sometimes he wonders if he grew up too fast. He feels that he should be more like Lo'ak sometimes, he wishes to be more like him, he wants to go out to his friends' parties, he wants to disobey his parents, he wants to be in a relationship. He just wants to feel like a normal teenager, not like a freak, at least just once.
He often felt distant from everyone, even though he was nice to his teammates, they didn't really cared about getting to know him, it didn't matter if he was a good player or not. To their eyes, Neteyam was still a freak, he wasn't a Metkayina like them, he's just an outsider, and he felt like one… Until Ao'nung got closer to him, he thought that maybe this could be the beginning of a friendship, but now he realized that Ao'nung doesn't really care about him, he was just following the coach's instructions to help him.
Neteyam didn't know that it was possible to feel even lonelier than before, but there he was, sobbing against the back of his hand trying to be as quiet as possible.
Kiri's shoulders felt instantly relieved as she put her heavy books from her backpack to her locker. She loved seeing it with her stuff and decorations, personalizing it with stickers didn't seem like something exciting but it brought her joy.
Unfortunately, that joy didn't last very long.
She heard some giggles from a distance, making her feel uneasy, and when she turned around to see the other side of the hallway, she recognized some boys from the basketball team laughing at her direction.
When she was closing her locker, she noticed that the locker's door had horrible things written all over it with permanent markers. Things like Freak or Weird bitch stood out in black ink on top of the white surface.
Her heart sinked, she felt so embarrassed, her eyes filled with tears as she noticed that everyone there was laughing at her, like they were waiting for her to see what they've done. She felt like couldn't move even though she wanted to, she was frozen.
"Look, she's crying!" someone pointed her with their finger, laughing like it was the funniest thing.
ೃ༄*ੈ✩
At the other end of the hallway, Ao'nung and Rotxo, his best friend, were walking to their lockers when they encountered this commotion, but at first they didn't know what was going on, until they noticed the short haired girl standing petrified as people laughed at her.
"What's happening?" Rotxo asked still confused, Ao'nung pointed at her locker.
"I think they wrote some shit in her locker, she's that new girl from the forest who's weird and talks to plants and shit." Rotxo looked at his friend with an incredulous look on his face. How could he talk about that poor girl like that?
It was his last straw when he saw a girl pushing Kiri and making her drop her backpack as she said "Do something bitch! don't just stand there while we're laughing at you! You're pathetic."
Ao'nung didn't even noticed when Rotxo started to walk towards the crowd and pushed the guys who started it, everyone immediately went silent.
"What is your problem bro?" Nash'vi looked at Rotxo with a frown. They both were friends and played on the basketball team, but sometimes Rotxo couldn't stand him, they were so different, Rotxo wasn't a bully to begin with.
"What do you think you're doing?! do you think it's funny bullying the new girl?" Seeing him being angry actually left them speechless, his friends were so used to him being nice and calmed that this facet of him was shocking.
"Bro we're just joking, rela-"
"Do you think this is fucking funny?" Nobody answered, they just looked down. Kiri finally reacted and left the scene, wiping the tears in her face. Rotxo looked at her, worried as she got farther and farther. He turned around to face Nash'vi "You better clean this up before she sees it again, are we clear?"
Now, Rotxo got out of there too, leaving his friends speechless behind him, but he couldn't care less, right know he just tried to follow Kiri's path.
When he thought he lost sight of her, he found her sitting on the grass with her back against the concrete wall of the school.
It was a heartbreaking picture, she looked like a fairy sitting there in between some flowers with her crystal necklaces while she wiped her tears with delicate hands. He just couldn't understand why would people treat her so badly, because she came from the forest? because she had different traditions? because she looked different? She didn't deserve any of that.
Rotxo decided to walk towards her to give her her backpack that was forgotten on the floor. Kiri saw him and immediately tried to get away as she saw the basketball team's uniform.
"No, no! it's me, don't worry, I just came here to hand you your backpack." He spoke with the softest voice ever, and Kiri completely forgot that she just left her backpack thrown on the floor.
"Oh, thank you, you didn't have to." she received the bag still sobbing, Rotxo sat next to her on the grass. Kiri was confused, why would he want to sit with her?
"I'm sorry that you had to go through all that… You don't deserve it" She wipes her tears, already calming down.
"It's fine, I mean, they are teenagers, I do weird things and look different from them, it's just something that is going to happen I guess" she rested her chin on her arms that were resting on her knees
It was really sad that she thought that, of course it wasn't okay to treat her like shit for entertainment. But keep talking about it wasn't what she needed, she needed a friend.
"Your necklace is really beautiful, is that an amethyst?" Kiri looked down at the purple crystal resting on her chest and looked at him with a soft smile.
"It is actually, I made the necklace myself." Rotxo looked at her surprised.
"You did? No way! you're really talented" Now Kiri looked at him with surprised eyes.
"You really think so?"
"Of course! Are you kidding?"
Her crying had already ceased and was practically forgotten. Rotxo was impressed with Kiri's talent, she made her own jewelry and also knitted some of her clothes
And Kiri felt so happy that someone was finally kind with her and wants to get to know her. She had finally made a friend.
The evening sky resembled a pink and yellow watercolor painting above Awa'atlu, there was barely any wind, just a warm breeze that carefully ran through Ao'nung's curls. He and Rotxo were resting in Ao'nung's swimming pool after swimming and playing around in the water for a while, and now that his parents weren't home they could smoke without getting caught.
Ao'nung has been trying all day to ignore the feeling of remorse after being just insufferable to Neteyam, he couldn't stop thinking about the way those sad and golden eyes turned teary because of him. He didn't wanna talk about it with Tsireya because when he asked her advice to make Neteyam like him, she said that he should start by apologizing, but not only he didn't do any of that, now he was sure that he made him cry.
He lighted the joint in his mouth and after giving it a puff he handed it to Rotxo. He wanted to talk about the Neteyam situation with him, but he didn't want to be so straightforward.
"Bro, today when the boys were laughing at that girl in the hallway, where did you go afterwards? You just kinda disappeared."
"Oh, she dropped her backpack and ran away so I picked it up and gave it to her" He smiled "But when I got there I sat down next to her, and I don't know if you know her but her name is Kiri, and she's actually so cool." Ao'nung looked at his friend not really convinced of that statement.
"Really?" Rotxo nodded. "And weren't you… Worried about what would the boys and everyone there think about you defending Kiri?" Rotxo looked at him and didn't hesitate about his answer.
"Of course not, I know somewhere in their brains they know that what they're doing is awful, and i'm not gonna stay there and just watch them torture a girl who's done nothing wrong." Ao'nung nodded, and god, he wishes he could be like his best friend and not worry about what other people thought about him.
"Yeah but still, doesn't it worry you that if you don't do what everyone else does, they would exclude you or something like that?" Rotxo thought about it for a second while his best friend looked at him, anxious to know his answer.
"It doesn't... Worry me, you know? It would worry me if they were actually good friends or good people, but I feel like I wouldn't be missing a lot if they don't talk to me or something like that." He passed the joint back to Ao'nung. "Besides, I have more friends, like you and Reya, real friends, not just classmates or teammates."
Ao'nung huffed and rubbed his face with his hands, making Rotxo giggle. "Ugh, you're right… I wish I didn't worry so much about what other people would say, like you."
"It wasn't something overnight though, but you can definitely get there."
Ao'nung hesitated for a second, but finally spoke. "Can I tell you something?" Rotxo nodded. Ao'nung told him about what happened with Neteyam from the beginning so he would have more context.
"There's one thing I don't get." Rotxo looked at him. "I don't understand why this situation affects you this much even though you two weren't friends to begin with, and knowing you, you normally wouldn't be worried about someone you don't care about."
"That's the thing!" Ao'nung said exasperated, like he was overwhelmed by his own feelings. "I think I actually care about him, you know? We might not be friends yet but I wanted to get to know him, I liked talking to him and I think he's, you know, smart, talented, caring and all that stuff." He looked down shyly and a sad smile appeared on his face. "But I think I fucked up for good now."
For a moment Rotxo just looked at him, he didn't know if he was too high or if he just heard Ao'nung basically confessing his feelings about Neteyam. "Bro I think you should put your pride aside and tell him you're sorry." Ao'nung rose his eyes from the water and looked up at Rotxo.
"It's not pride! I just think he wouldn't wanna see me for a while and I get that, I respect it" Rotxo shook his head, Ao'nung didn't get what he was trying to say.
"Okay first of all that's bullshit, you don't know for sure if he wants to see you or not, maybe he's expecting an apology from you. And second of all, I meant that you should put your pride aside and turn a blind eye to what would the team or anyone would say about you being friendly to the «forest boy»" He made quotation marks with his fingers. They were silent for a moment, Ao'nung was debating in his head about whether he should do what his best friend says or just make a safe bet and simply don't talk to Neteyam.
"Should I even try to apologize even though i'm sure he doesn't wanna see me?" Ao'nung wasn't really convinced about approaching Neteyam, but Rotxo was always right… he must be wizard or something.
"Yeah, definitely, that way he'll know that you feel sorry." Ao'nung sighed.
"I'll think about it."
Today it was one of those days that Neytiri got home earlier from work, so she and Jake decided to cook something special for dinner; a traditional Omaticaya recipe, everyone loved it, and even more now that they were far from their home and often felt homesick.
Neytiri was setting the table while Jake finished cooking. Lo'ak and Kiri were playing video games together and Tuk was drawing animals on her beloved sketchbook.
"Lo'ak, tell Neteyam that dinner is ready." Neytiri asked her son, who didn't took his eyes off of the TV.
"Neteyam! Dinner!" He yelled, he was too focused on not letting Kiri win again. And Neytiri looked at him with her hands on her hips
"Lo'ak I'm gonna turn the TV off if you don't go upstairs and tell your brother to come here." She warned.
"But mom! Why can't just Kiri go?" He said frustrated as he was about to lose again on the game.
"Lo'ak te Suli Tsyeyk'itan, I'm not gonna ask you again!" As soon as she finished that sentence, the flat screen showed Kiri as the winner once again. She celebrated and laughed as her brother got up from the couch.
"Fine, I'll go"
Lo'ak was pissed off by his defeat, but this time he only lost because his mom distracted him! The next time he would beat Kiri, he was sure.
His thoughts were interrupted when he got close to Neteyam's bedroom and heard something like... Sobs? His brother was crying?
The door was half way open, so he got closer and took a look inside. The room was almost completely dark if it wasn't for the dying daylight getting in from the window, Neteyam was laying on his side on top of his bed, facing the window and almost in complete silence if it wasn't for his sobs, which he tried to quiet down
This concerned Lo'ak immediately, catching Neteyam crying was as unusual as winning the lottery, so he thought that maybe his brother was hurting or something like that, there wasn't another explanation that made sense to him. So he decided to enter his brother's room and turn on the lights, making Neteyam jump due to the sudden invasion of his space.
"Bro are you alright?!" He sat on his brother's bed and shook his shoulder, while Neteyam tried to sat up and used his hand to cover his eyes from the bright light. "Are you hurt?! What's wrong?"
"Eywa I'm fine!" He pushed his brother's hands and wiped his tears. "You scared the shit out of me! You have to knock the door first you psycho! I could've been naked!"
"Are you sure you're okay?" Lo'ak was still worried. "I heard you crying." He looked at Neteyam, who kept wiping and wiping tears that were rolling down his face by themselves.
"Yes! I'm fine, just leave me alone." And there it is, his voice broke mid sentence and now he was crying again, but he still looked to the side so Lo'ak couldn't see him, but it was too late.
Just like his brother, Lo'ak had a strong feeling of protection, especially for his family, so he wouldn't leave his brother alone.
"'Teyam, you know you can trust me." He positioned his hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him but making him cry even more. "Please, tell me what's wrong."
"It's nothing serious, really." Neteyam sniffed and then wiped his nose. "it's just..."
"Yes?" Lo'ak was so intrigued to know what could've made his brother cry. Neteyam hesitated for a moment, debating whether he would tell his brother or not.
"I wanted to thank Ao'nung for helping me on the nursery yesterday… But when I was talking to him, he said awful things." Saying his name was just enough to irritate Lo'ak. "He treated me like a weirdo… Just like everyone else."
"That motherfucker…"
"And when he was talking to me, I heard the boys from the team laughing, they were laughing at the things he said... I felt humiliated and- and also I felt kind of betrayed, you know?" He laughed sarcastically. "I thought that Ao'nung was... different, but I guess was wrong."
It was hard to see his big brother like this, with his face dampened by his own tears and his head down, trying to hide. It was nothing like how he usually was, he seemed unbreakable, like nothing could ever get to him, he was the one that would comfort everyone because he didn't need anyone to comfort him. But maybe Lo'ak was wrong, after all, Neteyam was a person too.
"See? Just because he was nice one time, it didn't mean he's actually nice." He quoted what he said when Neteyam told him about how nice Ao'nung treated him. "And don't even expect him to apologize, I bet he can't even feel remorse or compassion."
Neteyam knew that he shouldn't expect anything from Ao'nung, but deep inside he wanted an apology, he needed one just so he'll know that the Metkayina didn't meant what he said.
But It was a stupid idea honestly, he should start to just forget about it.
