Dad!Ao’nung x Sully!reader
IN WHICH yours and Ao’nung’s son is killed during Quaritch’s attack, but your family is here to help you pick up the pieces.
WC: 3.3k
warnings: ANGST, grief of a son and a brother, death, violence and gory injuries.
Tumblr media
2 years. The little amount of time that you had been given before Quaritch and his team came to wreak havoc amongst your family once more. It seemed like your parents killing him once had not been enough, because his appearance made him look hungry for another death. Though you were all happy now, far away from the menace of his heavy ammo and the menacing gun that was slung upon his shoulder.
The first few weeks of living within the Metkayina had been so hard for you and your family. Between Lo’ak and Kiri being treated far worse for having human features, and the hard time you and your mother were having with fitting in with their traditions. The Tsahik had not been any softer on you despite the mistreatment that your family already faced. She despised your family of ‘demons’ and probably your mother too because she was affiliated and had children with one.
Your siblings and you had found comfort within the presence of the sweet Tsireya and Rotxo. Neteyam and yourself often found yourselves laughing quietly at your obviously in-love brother. Though you couldn’t make fun of him for too long, because you too had started developing something for the local Metkayina bully.
Something about his arrogance just made him so annoying yet attractive. Maybe it was his confidence, or the way he would tease you unrelentingly. Nevertheless, you just couldn't let anyone know of your silly crush for now, because if it fell upon the ears of the future olo’eyktan, you knew that he’d never let you live it down. Weeks had passed and your interest towards the boy could only grow more and more as the days passed by.
Though now, only with the teasing remarks of your family. Neteyam was always known for the keen eye that your mother had passed down to him, and it didn’t take long for him to notice the longing stares that you would send the rude boy. Long story short, he told Lo’ak and your little brother and his humongous mouth just couldn’t keep shut. To say that your mother was disappointed in your choice of men was an understatement, but she had allowed herself to fall in love with the person that she had wanted, so why couldn’t you?
Jake was…shocked to say the least. You had never audibly expressed your interest in any boy back at home, and here you were now. Though he knew that there was nothing that he could do to stop his 18 year old daughter from pursuing her heart's desires, because he had done so with Neytiri.
Your sisters had a calmer approach about the subject, rather asking you about it during some private gossip session that you had with them.
So after many months of hidden admiration spent, you still wondered how you had managed to end up under him in the middle of the forest behind their homes. Far from reach of everyone else, in the middle of the Metkayina mating grounds. His chests heaved up and down as he regained his breath, staring down at you with his stern lustful gaze.
An accidental confession and two young adults on the run from prying eyes was all it took for the both of you to run off and bond before eywa, queues intertwined with the feeling of love running thick through both of your veins. You’d laugh at yourself months ago if you had told yourself that you even had a chance with Ao’nung, but here you were now, mated for the rest of your lives.
The walk of shame felt rewarding in some way the next day, you had proved to Ronal and Tonowari that you feared them not, even if it meant being bonded to their son. Now you were all family, if they wanted it or not. Ao’nung and you had moved into your own private marui, and you were shoved into your mother’s loving embrace one last time as you packed your things and moved into your new home. Everything was perfect at first, a feast was soon established for the news of your mateship, and soon came another for the news of your bearing.
A baby, conceived through the love that you both shared. The endless nights that you both spent hidden away from the rest of the world, tightly squeezed in each other’s embrace as you slept the night off. Many were unaccepting at first, a demon hybrid and their future olo’eyktan? How absurd. But soon everyone calmed down, and time passed faster than you would’ve liked it to.
-
Fires spread throughout the whole village, heavy flames engulfing the beautiful village in its soaring arms. When you arrived back at shore, your heart was already void of all emotions. You felt as though it was bleeding, and the death of your brother felt like the knife that poked through the midst of it. You wanted it to burn with anger towards the sky people for taking your younger brother’s life, but you just couldn’t feel anything.
The brother that you had watched being birthed, cleaned and placed wailing into your young arms had been violently taken before you. It was unfair, but he was in a better place now, away from the cruelty of this world. You couldn’t imagine how your parents felt, losing their first son before their very own eyes. How guilty your little brother must've felt for everything. Though you forced your sorrows away because you had a family of your own to attend to.
Your son was still with his caretaker, and your mate probably had wounds that needed tending. Suddenly, the acrid scent of burning hit your nostrils, making you scrunch your nose in disgust. The fumes entered through your lungs like the much wanted air, and exited like the carbon that you would need to exhale.
Your yellow eyes shone a warm amber colour as your eyes were strained amongst the fiery scene before you. The flames engulfed the stretching material of the maruis, spreading at an undying pace. You were frozen in your spot as you watched the fire turn your homes into remainders of what once was. Your mind raced as you imagined the worst of all scenarios.
You flinched upon contact, elbowing hardly whoever had just grabbed you by the elbows. You turned around to meet their eyes, distress swirling in your very own. Ao’nung nearly fell back at your unwanted assault, huffing as you elbow left quite the fuzzy feeling in his stomach. Not the good kind of feeling. He looked at you before reaching for you once more, though you were unresponsive to his touch.
Once the smell of burning reached his nose, his attention was completely retracted from your frozen form. He suddenly urged forwards, grabbing your hand harshly into his as he ran towards the maruis. He ran faster than he had ever done, because there was a nagging feeling of fear lodged deep inside his heart.
You could feel your heart physically stop as you arrived in front of your shared marui, the stretchy material of your home now falling apart under effect of the burning. What scared you the most was the silence. As much as it pains you to say, you would’ve rather heard the painful yells of your baby than the wavering silence.
Without hesitation, Ao’nung entered the marui first. He had little to no reaction as a piece of burning material from the roof fell ungracefully over his arm, leaving a small and ugly mark behind. Him halting in his steps was enough to bring you back to life and rushing to the scene besides him.
Though the sight before you was what no mother would ever wish to see. The woman that was once protecting your son now laid lifeless besides the weaved crib that was made from dried sea plants. The smell of death was atrocious, and you had immediately known that she had not died due to the unfortunate fires. She had been murdered by those sky demons.
You had no care nor time to turn her around to investigate her cause of death. Though you were happy that you didn’t see the violent wound that ran down her back, a long cut that passed from the top to the bottom of her spine. Her blood seeped to the floor and tainted the material, and you could only wish then that it wasn’t Aytan’s, your son.
She was bare and open from the back for anyone to see if they dared to flip her around. You were glad that you didn’t need to, because the sight of her guts spilling all over your feet would’ve surely made you regurgitate your meal all over her mutilated body.
Instead your eyes panned for painfully long on your son that laid still in his crib. Void of any movement or life, you felt as though now you would puke.
His skin was cursed with burn marks that overtook nearly half of his body. He looked so miserable and even if he was still alive at the moment, you would wonder if saving him would do him any good. The once soft baby skin now looked roughy and flaky.
He was still so small that he could barely fit into the two palms of his father’s hands, but he was big enough to fit perfectly in your smaller ones.
Perfectly safe and healthy in his mothers embrace is where he should’ve been right now, not like this.
You looked over to Ao’nung for some unreasoned confirmation that your son was truly dead, but he wasn’t even looking at you. Instead, his lifeless eyes hovered over the charred child that laid innocently in his crib. He couldn’t even make a move to grab the baby, because he was frozen in anguish.
You couldn’t even remember when you had started crying, or when your cries had turned into desperate sobs and prayers towards Eywa. You couldn’t even remember when Ao’nung’s family had found the both of you safe and sound into the marui that once called a home, now in shambles beneath your feet. All you remembered was grasping your son with all force that you had left and praying to the Great-Mother down on your knees, and the painful tears that rolled down your husband’s cheeks.
Though there weren’t more than 3 tears that he had shed, it was 3 too much. He wouldn’t have cried if those damned demons didn’t follow your family here, but yet there he was. He too couldn’t even remember when his mother had embraced him, but she had done so.
There were so many things that the both of you had regretted not doing on that night. Like staying back to protect your son by yourselves. You both resented yourselves for the fact that the last time the both of you would ever hold him this way would be at his funeral, followed by your brother’s.
-
Everything was quiet since that night, at least for you. It was too much loss for your fragile heart to comprehend all at once. Was your brother’s death not enough, have they had to take your innocent son’s life as well. Your poor son that had just been presented to the clan
You were scared. Scared of so many things that you could not control. You feared what Ao’nung thought of you, did he hate you for not being there with you son? Maybe if you were, you could’ve protected him unlike the incompetent babysitter that you had left him with. No, you shook your head from those nasty thoughts. It was wrong of you to think ill of that woman, she had been present with your son until her unfortunate death.
Your fears turned into trepidation as your husband made his way towards you, a plate of fish in his wobbly hands.
Ao’nung was so angry at many things. He was angry at himself for not being there with his son. He felt mad at the poor woman for not having the ability to protect his innocent son. Though most of all, he felt vexed at you for freezing up on that day. He told himself that perhaps if you had not taken so much time to snap back to your senses, your son would somehow still be here.
He knew that it was wrong of him to think like this, he knew that even if you had acted faster, his son would still be laying unresponsive at his return. He knew that feeling angry at his innocent wife was wrong, that none of this had to do with you being at fault. He hates himself for having these unwanted feelings and thoughts, and at times Ao’nung truly wishes that he could silence his subconscious.
He hated himself for internally blaming you even after watching you drown in remorse. Even after watching you sob over your dead son’s frail body. And even though it had been hours since the funeral of your brother and son, your tears still ran freely on your delicate cheeks.
They stained your dark skin and they strained your eyes that could do nothing to stop the flow. Ao’nung felt his guilt triple in size as he sat next to you, your body instinctively shaking as he engulfed you in his warm embrace. For he had always been your pillar of reconfort and the person that you allowed yourself to feel vulnerable within.
He hushed you gently as you sobbed into his arms, his heart shattering once more as you cried to him. You were unsoothable but he hadn’t complained once, instead he gave you the comfort that you seeked so much. You felt guilty too, because you were not the only person going through grief. Who would be there to comfort Ao’nung when you were crying in his embrace?
Though when you made your worries audible, he was quick to shut them down. He wanted to be strong for you, for his family and mostly for himself. He told you not to worry, that he was okay as long as you were and soon your insecurities of him hating you vanished through the soft breeze. Ao’nung didn’t hesitate to remind you of how strong your love was and that you’d both get through it.
You both slept with heavy hearts at night, unable to close your aching eyelids until they fell on their own with exhaustion. His arms never left your form and you slept with your head on his chest, finding comfort in the sound of his beating heart.
-
You felt jealous at first, heart black and full of envy as you watched young mothers with their children. Hell, even the older mothers made your heart clench with resentment. And though you knew it was selfish of you to despise mothers for simply existing, there was little that you could do to make the feeling go away.
You couldn’t face the sight of the young children that trudged behind their mothers and soon it began affecting your Tsahik performances. How could you heal children and mothers and assist labourers when you couldn’t even stand the sight of them anymore.
It was unfair, so unfair for everyone but you knew that it was the way that life went. You knew that you couldn’t keep on closing yourself off like this, that you had to be accepting of what had happened and face reality.
So accepting was what you had done. Slowly by slowly, you have started rebuilding your life with the help of people around you. Your mother was the most understanding person, because she had lost so much already. She had lost her son just as you had, but she had never once reprimanded you for grieving. She had never forced you to speak up to her, she had never resented you for feeling the way you did.
You had learnt that it was not the end of the world, and that one day you’d be better, you’d all be better. Neteyam and Aytan’s death were not in vain, for the Great-Mother always had a plan for everyone. If it was her will, then so be it, there was nothing that you could do to undo what was done anyways.
Tuk had been the sweetest girl during that moment, and it never failed to bring tears in your eyes at how understanding she was. She was so young and you were sad that a part of her youth was taken away from her because of this ongoing war.
You could never thank your brother and father enough for being there for you despite the guilt that weighed them down, pushing so hard that they could only bear to stand on their knees.
Though solace could only work in both ways, and you were just as there for them as they were there for you. Aytan was just as much their family member as Neteyam was, and they were allowed to grieve the loss of your son as well. It took time for you all to find peace within this feeling of forfeiture, but you all knew that one day, things would be okay.
-
You watched as Ao’nung made his way towards his people, a prideful smile adorning his face as his gaze turned to you. His eyes were full of adoration as he stared at you, then to the little bundle of joy and baby fat that was lying comfortably in his arms.
He stood before his people clad in his traditional clothes that were used during feasts and announcements of this type.
The child in his arms stirred awake at the disturbance, whining slightly for her mother. The sound reached your ears and for a second you worried for your daughter, but you knew that nothing bad could happen to her as long as she was in her father’s arms.
The child's stomachs growled loudly for a second and you had to bring your hand in front of your mouth to stifle your laughter. She had just been fed a few minutes before this and yet her hunger caught up to her once more. A trait that she had acquired from his father, you had to cook 3 times your own fish portion to properly feed his warrior’s stomach.
Ura was a child that would soon grow to walk on clumsy legs, a child that was yours. Though a part of yourself was gone forever, tearing a piece of your heart along with it. You knew that the pain of losing your first child would never really go away, but you'd always have your family to help you get through it. You had a wonderful mate, that you relied your entire life within his hands, and a family that knows the ways past your heart.
You watched as Ao’nung raised your 3 weeks old daughter into the air, her chubby little arms raising in amusement. The sound of her name pierced through your ears and soon the chants began to fill your heart with joy and pride. You couldn’t help the warm smile that overtook your features as you watched your daughter being presented to the entire clan, your family close behind you.
Your mother held a hand over her chest, where her heart was. Her smile mirrored yours and the pride on her face could compete versus the one that she felt when you were the one being shown to her clan. Your father and siblings were close to her. Lo’ak now shone with new tribal tattoos, ones similar to yours as they dipped from his chin and all the way down his leg.
His mateship with Tsireya was soon made public, and you felt a pang in your heart when you knew that you couldn’t tease him about it with Neteyam anymore. Though you swallowed your sorrows, feeling happy for your baby brother. Your sister in law stood besides your brother, her eyes glued to her newborn niece. A child that she knew that she just absolutely would spoil when she would learn to stand on her own feet.
Perhaps things would get hard at times, and the reminiscences of your son would be permanent, but you had a loving family that would always help you fill the void.

KISS IT BETTER !
Tumblr media
ao'nung x metkayina reader.
a/n — sorry guys it's been a reallyyy rough past few days some shit has gone down but here's a lil drabble while i finish a fic 🫶 / also they're like 18 in this for sake of plot !
To say you and Ao'nung didn't get along would be an understatement.
You two always argued, no matter how little or how big. From the way your hair was done, to who couldn't hold their breath as long, who was better on an ilu, you name it.
Though, despite you not being able to see eye to eye with him, you were always close with his younger sister. You were attached to the hip ever since children, and you spent practically your whole lives with each other, pretty much growing up together. You also grew close with her family, spending many dinners over at her marui.
So of course, you always had to see her brother.
Tsireya wasn't blind. Pretty much anyone could see the way you two acted around each other. And if they couldn't see it, they could certainly hear it. There wasn't a minute you could be in the same vicinity as each other and not throw insults at each other.
However, nobody really knows how or why you're like that. It's almost as if you were born into the world and just decided to hate each other.
And so you're sitting in between Tsireya's legs, her doing a new hairstyle for your hair and you whining about her brother once more. "I just don't get it," you complained, huffing in annoyance. "He really thinks he can insult me with a face like that! 'You'll never be able to get a boyfriend looking like that, y/n'," you gruffly mimicked, inaccurately impersonating his voice. "As if he's any better! Like you're the one who can't keep a girlfriend. He's projecting, I'm telling you."
Pulling extra tight on a certain braid you yelped, glaring over your shoulder. "Y/n, you seriously have a problem," Tsireya stated, sighing. "I mean if you really hate my brother so much, just don't talk to him. You both are around each other a lot for people who claim to hate each other so much."
"It's not my fault!" You quickly replied. "I swear, he's everywhere. I want to go clear my mind and go for a swim? He's already there. I want to feed the ilus? Apparently he was planning on going on a ride. I want to stop by and have dinner with my best friend? He-"
"Lives there, Y/n. He lives there," Tsireya finished for you. "I'm just saying. He may be my brother, but if he pisses you off that much you don't have to talk to him. He's good at riling people up. Especially you." She commented, finishing your hair and patting your shoulder lightly for you to turn around.
"He could piss anyone off with the things he says," You grumbled, shoulders drooping when you fell under Tsireya's disapproving gaze. "Fine. I'll try to not let him get to me. Starting now."
"Oh that's lovely, because he's right behind you."
"What-"
"Hi sister," he paused, eyes glancing to you in distaste. "Y/n."
"Ao'nung." You acknowledged him blandly, trying to take your friend's advice and not be disturbed by his mere presence.
"Mother wants you home for dinner," He continued, letting out a sigh before going on. "They invited you too." He finished, not sparring a glance your way before turning around and walking back.
"That went better than expected." Tsireya grinned, grabbing your arm and taking you to her own marui.
"Wait until dinner."
Dinner was going better than expected. You and Ao'nung hadn't argued yet, considering you chose to ignore him and he did the same. Your parents had joined the dinner as well, so you had no other choice but to be respectful.
Your calm nature soon disappeared as you heard the words coming from your parents mouths.
"What?" You exclaimed in disbelief, Tsireya sitting next to you with a shocked expression.
"Really, we think it's for the best."
"No offense or anything, but have you met Ao'nung? I can barely stay in the same room with him, nevertheless spend the rest of my life with him!" You complained, ignoring the stern looks from your parents. "It won't work. Me and Ao'nung, we don't work well together."
"For once, I agree." The boy finally spoke, not looking up from the table.
"Y/n, Ao'nung, I know this is unexpected, but we've all talked about it. You would make a great mate for Ao'nung. We'd like you two to be mated soon before Ao'nung chooses a girl us or the clan would not approve of."
You noticed how his jaw clenched at the comment, yet he stayed silent. You closed your eyes, trying to accept your fate. When you both fell silent, everyone got up and started to exit the room. "We'll give you two some privacy."
You watched as they all left out the marui, turning towards the male. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"It's my mother, I doubt anything I would've said would have made a difference."
"Of course it would! You're her son!"
"You're just so stubborn, aren't you?" Ao'nung suddenly shouted, standing up now. "Thinking you can have everything your way? We have duties, y/n. Grow up."
"Clearly, I'm the only one who's thinking rationally right now! How can you be willing to spend the rest of your life with someone you can't stand?"
"Well like it or not, it's happening. Deal with it, because you're not going to change our parents' minds."
"I can't believe you," you scoffed. "I hope they don't expect me to love you. I can't see who would." You walked out furiously, stomping back towards your own marui.
"Oh, you're one to talk!"
The next few days you two kept your separate ways, but both of you knew your parents wouldn't let it stay like that. They'd practically set up a date for you guys, claiming it's so you could 'settle the feud'.
So you woke up, already in a bad mood, putting minimal effort into getting ready. You headed outside your marui, grumbling what sounded like a farewell to your parents, blood boiling at the sight of the boy who was waiting for you on the beach.
"Y/n." He gruffly greeted you, not meeting your eye.
"Ao'nung." You acknowledged him back, mind drifting back to the other night. Were you too harsh with your words? It was possible you could've gotten caught up in the heat of the moment, and if you were forced to spent the rest of your life with him, you should at least try to be civil.
"...how are you?" You inwardly cringed at yourself, making an awkward attempt to make conversation.
He sent a questioning look your way, realizing what you were doing. He almost wanted to laugh at how out of place you looked. He decided to play along, for whatever reason. "Okay. You?"
"I'm good."
The both of you didn't talk much for the rest of the day, but you didn't argue either, so maybe you were showing signs of improvement. You walked along the beach quietly, the occasional tight-lipped smile, or a hum in response to one of your or his attempts to make some small talk.
Your hangouts usually went like that, you'd greet each other and walk, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. You were too scared to say anything about it, or change the newly made routine, until Ao'nung seemingly had enough.
"Y/n," he sighed out tiredly, stopping and turning to face you fully. "This isn't helping us at all. All we're trying to do is not argue every time we're around each other. We're not fixing anything, hell, we're probably making it worse. Even if we can't love each other, shouldn't we be able to get to know one another?"
You stood silent for a moment, considering his offer. "I hate it when you're right," you deadpanned, dropping the 'nice' act. "It's just so irregular. Why would I want to be stuck with you?"
"Cmon, I struck peace and you're insulting me?" He teased, flashing a rare grin to you.
"Stop smiling, people are gonna start thinking you want to be around me." You told him, walking off.
Ao'nung went after you, chuckling to himself. "I won't make it a habit then!"
To everyone's surprise, you were finally starting to get along. You acted like friends, even if neither of you would necessarily admit it. You were spending your time with Tsireya, deeming you'd spent too much time with her brother.
"I can't believe I actually saw you smiling in the vicinity of Ao'nung." She teased, laughing once you rolled your eyes.
"Oh shut up. We're basically going to be with each other for eternity, we had to stop hating each other at some point."
"He was talking about you the other day at dinner, actually. If I didn't know any better I'd say he's taken a liking to you."
"Absolutely not!" You denied, shaking your head. "We're not like that. Like at all. We're just friends now, okay? We don't see each other that way."
"Whatever you say."
What the two of you didn't notice, however, was that the boy heard the two of you talking, heart slightly sinking. Could you really not tell how he felt?
And oddly enough, he felt even more determined to prove how he did.
To your shock, Ao'nung started making advances towards you during your scheduled hang outs. They were subtle, but you noticed the slight flirting, or how his touch would linger on you longer than usual.
You didn't think much of it however, considering you just went from enemies to friends in the span of maybe two weeks. You were right to do so, when you spotted him with another girl one day.
When you first saw them, you really could've cared less. Ao'nung was popular, and knew many people. If he had friends who were girls, it didn't matter. Everyone knew you were each others promised mates, and the word quickly spread since people knew of your dislike for each other.
You trusted Ao'nung, he was not only your betrothed but your duties were to each other, and he wasn't dumb enough to try and change that.
At least you thought.
Their second interaction, you saw the same girl, Mau. She was a sweet girl, you knew her through Tsireya. You watched quietly from afar as the two talked animatedly, large smiles and their laughter heard from where you stood. You hid behind a smaller palm tree, it's leaves shielding you from their view.
You couldn't quite hear what their conversation was, so you settled for just watching. You were shocked when she pressed a kiss to his cheek, and how he turned purple in response. You denied how you felt your heart drop to your stomach, and deemed that their conversation should be private and hurried to leave.
In the midst of rushing out you accidentally walked right into one of the leaves, your lip getting cut in the process. "Oh, fuck." You cursed underneath your breath, hoping no one could see you leave. You sprinted away to another part of the beach, moving over to the marui near the ilus.
Ao'nung squinted his eyes at the sight of someone running away, thinking it oddly resembled you. A wave of adrenaline quickly hit him when he realized you might have seen Mau, and he jumped up in panic. "I'm so sorry, I have to go." He excused himself, rushing after you.
He found you with the ilus, smiling when he heard you talking nonsense to them. He cleared his throat, "You seriously have got to make some new friends."
You froze at his voice, almost turning around but realizing he'd see the wound on your lip. You stayed in place, back turned to him as you kept feeding the creatures. "Don't be salty I have more friends than you, even if they can't talk."
"In your dreams, hun," He teased, sitting down next to you, confused when you turned away from him. Concerned, and a little scared you saw his previous interaction, his head followed yours, trying to meet your eyes. "What's wrong?"
You pursed your lips, turning around and eyes widening when you realized how close his face was to yours. Afraid of talking and showing him your cut you only shrugged, shaking your head.
"Why are you holding your lips like that?" He questioned, making you hot with panic. "It makes you look even more stupid."
"Oh just shut up." You mumbled, figuring there was no way out of this. You lowered your head, but not before he could see your wound.
"What happened?"
You really just wanted to let the ocean swallow you whole.
"I ran into a tree."
"While eavesdropping?" He laughed, seeing the way your head quickly perked up, the caught look on your face.
"I didn't- I mean-"
"Oh don't worry, I know you were just questioning my loyalty. I mean with a face like this, there's loads of girls after me. Had to break many hearts knowing I was promised to you."
"Keep telling yourself that. And if I was testing your loyalty, you definitely failed. Not that I mind, but who lets other girls kiss them when they're promised to someone else?"
"If you're jealous, just say that," he simply shrugged, smirking at you. "I turned Mau down, by the way. Told her I was already to be mated with another."
"Oh," you couldn't help but let out a breath of relief. "Your parents will be happy to hear that."
Rolling his eyes at your ability to not take a hint, he only sighed. "Yeah, sure."
Ao'nung then refocused on your lips, looking at the cut. "You know, we should really do something about that."
"It doesn't hurt that much."
"You should let me kiss it better."
"What?" You exclaimed, looking at him incredulously.
"You heard me."
Not bothering to hear your response his lips pressed against yours gently, in fear of making the cut any worse. His hand came to rest against your jaw as his lips moved slowly. You felt him smile against you before he quickly pecked your lips again, pulling away with a smug look. "Feel any better?"
"I'm not sure, you might have to kiss it better again."

HII!!, i just randomly thought of this, but have you watched the barbie movie? and yk the song with Billie eilish "what was I made for" like what if reader was in a toxic relationship before their relationship with this new character(could be neteyam or ao'nung, or your choice of character) where readers ex boyfriend didn't care for readers feelings, and is really toxic is all, so reader hides her emotions/trauma from her new lover, like with the lines in the song "im sad again, don't tell my boyfriend, it's not what his made for" and so readers new lover finds out about this and like reassures her that she can always share her feelings with them and ykyk, Anyways It's just a thought, you don't have to do it, oh but please do😭

You watched as Ao’nung soared through the water with his friends, riding their skimwigs as they passed a ball back and forth, playing a traditional game of water polo. You would’ve been playing, or at least in the line with the other girls who were bound to play the next round but a nauseating feeling has been bothering you for the past few days.
It had been at least half a year since you and your family sought Uturu in Awa’atlu. Being raised in a forest and suddenly being stripped of your home in a matter of hours made it hard to adjust. Yes, you should’ve been used to it now, but even after all this time you just…couldn't connect.
You connected well with Ao’nung, and you loved him, but not everyone supported the relationship. He was the Olo’eyktans son, and you were the demon's daughter. Safe to say it caught everyone, including you, off guard when he began to pursue you. It also caused a little drama between you and the other girls on the reef. You didn’t know much about his dating history, but allegedly there was a singular girl he was supposed to court. Especially since he would be Olo’eyktan in the future if not Tsireya. That girl hated you, and she didn’t try to hide it either.
You felt them staring, the girl and her clique staring as you sat alone in the sand watching your boyfriend. Their eyes made the sun beam harder, and the heat of it all made your head pound. You wanted Ao’nung to come over. To whisk you away or to tell them off, but you repressed yourself.
After all, you were probably being emotional. Just like your last boyfriend said. It was normal for him to berate you after pulling him away from his “duties”. He dumped you after a year or so for being “too clingy” and “too emotional” and said that it was probably your fathers demon blood that made you "do that stuff" since the Sully family was full of “freaks”.
This did not slide with your parents at all. You begged them to not escalate the situation but they just couldn't help it. Jake began putting the boy through more rigorous training and your mother became more vocal with her distaste of making him a warrior. In the moment, they might have thought they were helping, but in reality it only supported your exes claims.
So when you got here to Awa’atlu and got labeled as ‘freaks’ and ‘demons’ it brought you back to what you already were back at home.
You stood and began walking away from the beach, feeling more self conscious than usual. You hated the feeling, and when you were left alone for too long your mind began to wander. The subconscious thought of you and Ao’nungs relationship not ending on good terms haunted you, and you were desperate to rid yourself of those thoughts. You found yourself lingering and strolling over to the tropical first of Awa’atlu, the closest to home you could get. Your fingertips brushed over the coiled flowers and brushes, giving you that sense of fulfillment.
You and Kiri had a similar connection and love for nature, but lately she’s been getting her stimulation from the sea.
Sitting on the ground, and laying against the damp grass, you looked at the sky that was bordered by palm trees and distant birds flying. You tried to manipulate your reality by imagining the thicker forestry and the sounds of animals hooting and hollering in the distance, but you couldn't.
The trees felt like a dark hole. A circle of a place you could never call home. You sighed deeply, and tried to make most of what you had.
Not even an hour in, you heard the crunching of grass get louder. You internally groaned, knowing it was Ao’nung.
Without a word, he laid next to you, staring up into the sky as you were.
“You gotta stop running off on me like that.” He said silently.
“I didn’t mean to…I just…got distracted.”
Ao'nung felt a pit in his stomach himself. He knew you were lying. Even though he teased and joked around with you a lot. He knew it was time to sit and talk to you.
“You’re lying.” He said bluntly. “You’re depressed.”
You said nothing, letting his words sink in. You’d come to that conclusion a while ago, but you avoided saying it out loud.
“Is it because of me?”
“No.” You said immediately.
“It's the reef. Isn't it? You miss your home.”
“I do miss my home.” You nodded.
The both of you fell silent again. Waiting for the other to say something. Neither one of you were good with stuff like this.
“Why do you never talk to me?” He asked. “You never talk about your life in the forest.”
“It would be just as bad as talking about my experience here. I don’t fit in anywhere.”
Ao’nung let out a chuckle. “Without the angsty teen typical ‘I don’t fit in” bullshit.” He started, which caused you to let out a genuine laugh. Maybe it was corny. “I want you to tell me. Life before the reef. Life before me.”
“Are you sure you want to hear it?”
Ao'nung rolled over to turn to you and you did the same, looking over at him.
“Of course I want to hear Y/n.” He said with furrowed eyebrows. “I want to hear every little stupid idea and thought in your head. You need to let me in. I want you to let me in.”
You felt a pang of guilt surge through your body. This was the first time he…or anyone has said anything like that to you before. Here you were, treating him like your ex where you could share nothing personal, and this entire time he wanted you to.
“Well now I feel bad.” You mumbled.
He whirled his fingers around a strand of your hair and smiled. “You don’t need to. I know how anxious you get.”
With a deep breath, you began rambling. Talking more than you had in the past year. You told him everything, from sleeping in bioluminescent gardens and very public fights with your ex. You talked about the events leading up to arriving at Awa'atlu, along with a sprinkle of your dad’s backstory.
You told him about how you felt ashamed to be his girlfriend, especially with how the other people on the reef felt about your family.
In all, you probably talked his ear off for an hour. But the craziest thing is that he sat and listened to every word. Nodding along, even interjecting a few times to validate your feelings and thoughts.
With each word and look of affirmation you felt a large weight lifting off of your shoulders, even relieving pressure you didn’t even know was there. Your chest wasn't tight, and you didn’t feel nauseous.
“See? That didn’t kill you.” Ao’nung said with a soft smile. “We’re not all dicks you know.” He placed his hand on the dip of your waist. “You just got paired with a shitty first boyfriend…and it sucked.”
You bit your bottom lip to stop it from trembling, listening to Ao’nung give you the much needed reassurance. “I may not be able to save you or help you with every issue you come across on the reef, but I'll do my best to protect you from anything I can control.” He patted your waist.
After talking, especially now. You felt pretty stupid that you had pre-judged your boyfriend and thought that he wouldn't care. This whole time, all you wanted was someone to understand you. He most likely noticed you were falling into a pit before you did yourself.
“Hey,” He poked your forehead. “We build from here. We both have no idea what we’re doing.”
“You definitely don't.” You giggled.
He flicked your nose before standing and pulling you upwards, pulling you to god knows where.

Ao’nung paced back and forth along the beach in his favorite spot, first the Sully family had to come and disrupt his home. Fucking everything up with their wars, why couldn’t they have stayed away? And second here you come, waltzing right in as if it was okay! As if you belonged here on his planet, in his home. Invading his space with your presence, he was furious.
A family of visitors was enough but to have humans invading his home was troublesome. Aonung couldn’t fathom why no one else was upset at having a couple of vrrteps in his home. The stench of human and their sterile vile smells contaminating the air of every where they walked. It was infuriating to smell them, to smell you, your stench was different. More forest smelling like those of the Sully family, however still human.
As the days passed Ao’nung watched as his own sister jokes around with you. Pulling you off into different directions to do girly things. She tested you as if you were a regular member of the clan, as if you belonged and just didn’t understand. You couldn’t even make tsaheylu with the ilu, how could someone as small as you even be welcomed into the clan.
“Why must you be with that vrrtep as if she is one of us?” Ao’nung questioned Tsireya the moment he caught her alone. He watched as his sister scoffed at his question, as if he were the one being unreasonable.
“Y/n is part of the people despite them being a tawtute, brother. You’d realize that if you spoke to her or even spent time with her.” Tsireya remarked. “She is nice and she pulls her weight. Just as much as the Sully family.”
“Did you forget that I did not like the Sully family sister? Bringing their problems to our home, but now that the problems are over they bring their pets?” Ao’nung replied. Tsireya stayed silent meaning she was finished with the conversation, decided not to hear any more of her brother’s nonsense and Aonung simply huffed before leaving. What was so special about you that his sister could simply say you are “part of the people.?”
It wasn’t until Aonung caught Rotxo speaking to you and hanging out with you on various occasions that he felt jealousy begin to brew in the pit of his stomach. It was bad enough his sister hung around you continuously now his best friend is doing so?
“Rotxo you speak to this vrrtep as well? What is so special about her?” The distaste was heavy on his tongue as he spoke, however Rotxo couldn’t answer. To him you were nice and easy to get along with. You had no foul intentions like the other demons he had encountered, you were different very different. “She is different Ao’nung. You will just have to see.” Rotxo concluded and Ao’nung knew that was as much as he’d get out of his friend.
Each day he saw you with someone else he couldn’t shake the jealousy that clawed at his insides. Everyone else but him? What was so special about you? If you were as nice as everyone claimed then why hadn’t you tried to be nice to him? Ao’nung racked his brain on what to do and before he could second guess himself he picked up the first thing he saw, which just happened to be a clam. His annoyance was high as he made his way over to your small body, you sat alone by the shore staring out into the distance. The closer he got his annoyance slowly boiled over into a fit of rage. His steps were heavy in the sand and once he was close enough he stood before you with a frown on his face.
“Here vrrtep.” He muttered as he crouched down and grabbed ahold of your wrist to roughly place the clam in your hand. He didn’t wait to see the confusion on your face as you held the large clam in your small hands. He had hoped that would be enough for you to seek him out and speak with him but as the days pass you never did. And that left Aonung feeling more confused especially as he saw you still hanging around with everyone but him.
Ao’nung saw you alone again, and this time he was more determined to get to the bottom of why you refuse to speak to him. He made his way over this time calming any negative emotions he had as well as making sure he had a more appropriate gift for you. He sat beside you on the sand, and for a moment he was silent.
“You do not like me?” His asked. His question was simple and straight to the point, he wanted to know. It was silent and this caused his ears to perk up before he turned to face you. His eyes taking in every single detail just as you did him. “I do like you.” You replied back your voice was soft and this had his eyes widening, the first time he’s spoken to you despite him always watching you from afar.
“You do not approach me vrrtep. You refuse to acknowledge me.” He stated, to aonung it felt as if you were playing a joke on him, a very unfunny joke.
He watched as you covered your mouth to hide your giggle, you found the big intimidating male to be funny and a little less intimidating. “No Ao’nung you are just scary to approach, I like you a lot actually.” Without a thought in his mind Ao’nung leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. His hands wrapping around your waist as he pulled you into his lap, deepening the kiss as he finally put his feelings into order.
The kiss grew heavy as Ao’nung lost himself in the feel of your body against his, the clothing of the navi looked good on you. He could easily feel the curve of your body and the heat of yours against his cool skin. His hands slipped between both of your bodies, fingers teasing at your clothed cunt. He rubbed your clit through your bottoms feeling the way you began to soak through your panties. The scent of your arousal invaded his senses and all he could focus on was the sound of your soft whimpers and the smell of you.
Soon his digits find themselves stuffed into your sopping wet cunt, thrusting in and out of you slowly as he worked to stretch you out. He groaned at the feeling of your tight cunt gripping greedily into his fingers as he fucked into you. Ao’nung groaned as you broke the kiss to cry out from the pleasure, watching the way your face scrunched up as you bounced yourself on his fingers.
Ao’nung hadn’t expected the way your small hands pulled him free from his loincloth, blindly working your hands up and down along his throbbing length. He hissed softly but let you continue your exploration of his cock.
He felt himself getting close to his release and he quickly pulled his fingers free from your drenched cunt, brow bones furrowed as she adjusted your body over his throbbing length. “I need to fill you up vrrtep.” Aonung grumbled and without another word he lowered you onto his dick slowly, he had to hold back the urge to thrust up into you. The way your cunt clung to the tip of his cock nearly had him releasing into you in that moment. “You’re so tight.” He gasped out. All Ao’nung could focus on was the feeling of your sopping wet cunt fluttering around him as he finally bottomed out inside of you.
The bulge of his cock against your lower stomach indicating just how deep he had him pulling your body up half way just so he could lower you back down. His eyes glued to the way he could see himself moving in and out of you. “Ngh.. we should have meeting like this everyday vrrtep, I’m sure we could learn to resolve our issues.” Ao’nung teased as he began to fuck into you.Maybe he wasn’t so unbothered by you as he had assumed.

enjoy the silence | ao’nung.
ao’nung x fem!sully!reader
part one | next part
Tumblr media
synopsis: Nothing could break your sunshine personality, not even your family’s abrupt move to Pandora’s reefs. But, the Olo’eyktan and Tsahik’s son of the Metkayina, who you’ve fallen at first sight for, greatly tested that.
genre: fluff, angst.
contains: pining from reader; toward ao’nung, mentions of bullying, name calling, feeling alone. ao’nung being a bully (what’s new). unrequited love.
a/n: welcome to my first piece of writing ever! i had to give the honors to my bf ao’nung. this isn’t exactly canon to ao’nung in atwow, he doesn’t outwardly bully the sullys like he does in the movie. but still angsty. let me know if you guys enjoy this!
The Metkayina's way of living was definitely strange to adapt to, but not difficult. Your new life was filled with training your breathing, riding your Ilu, or exploring underwater. Pandora’s enchanting reefs made it hard to dislike living in Awa’atlu, and despite having to uproot your life from the forest so suddenly, you really enjoyed living here. Every day you found something that made your life here greater. Finding an especially pretty shell, weaving your first top with pretty pearls, and even finding a pretty boy to crush on.
The son of the Olo’eyktan and the Tsahik of the Metkayina had caught your eye. When your family first landed here, being picked, prodded, and eyed at by the people, your attention couldn’t help be on him. You were ecstatic when Tonowari put his two children to help your family learn the way of the Metkayina. Ao’nung, not so much.
His death glare scared you, sure, but despite that, he was gorgeous. His braids that tie up into a bun of dark curls, his tooth necklace that dangles off his chest when he bends over, his glistening skin when he’d emerge from the water. Everything about him was admirable, you’d bet his personality had to be wild and free. You’d just have to get close enough for the heir to notice you.
Just your luck, Ao’nung was most often paired with you when you were training. Tsireya was too enamored with your brother, Lo’ak, to pick anyone else.
“Breathe deep from here,” Ao’nung instructed you, hand on your upper stomach. Your breath couldn’t help but hitch, soon quickening.
“Your heart, it’s beating fast. Calm your breathing, feel the water,” Neteyam, Lo’ak, and Tsireya all shared a knowing look.
“Sorry, Ao’nung,” he gave you a small smile, but it soon disappeared and the lesson moved on.
“Just focus, m’kay?”
His smile was your glimmer of hope. Maybe he did take the same liking you had with him? No, he’s just following orders. But, did his father’s orders entail being friendly, too?
Still, you had hope. He had to be your someone, by Eywa, you felt it.
You spent your free time practicing your weaving to make gifts for him, or practicing your breathing and sign language to impress him. Always at the shore to collect sea shells for him. Never not around the Tsahik, his mother, listening to her speak with the fellow healers. Ronal had even grown to like you. Such an attentive, obedient girl. Just what Ao’nung needed in his life, your attention would put a pause on his recent bad behavior. Perhaps it was fate that a Tsakarem was brought to their clan, the perfect mate for her son.
In the Omaticaya, you trained everyday for your whole life on how to rule next to the Olo’eyktan and interpret the will of Eywa. You couldn’t help but believe that, maybe, Ao’nung was the Olo’eyktan you’ve been training for. The one to look after the people with. The one to be by your side for the rest of your life. Your mate. You would be perfect together.
Of course, he didn’t see you the same way. But, you didn’t know this. He saw you as a measly forest girl with “demon” blood flowing through her veins that didn’t belong. Your five fingered waves of hello to him every morning were nothing but offensive. How could you be so content with being part enemy?
You were familiar with the uncertainty people felt toward you being half human. You felt it in your own clan. The Omaticaya didn’t take your extra fingers and the hairs on your brow bone with delight. They had been nothing short of disappointed when Toruk Makto’s children came out looking like dream walkers and not pure Na’vi.
The children of the clan specifically acted on their distaste quite boldly throughout your life. The teasing, name calling, bullying, it wasn’t new to you. “Freak,” “demon,” pushing around, leaving you out, pranks being pulled. Jake had always said to not give them the reaction they’re looking for, and after a while it worked. You gave them nothing, they left you alone.
But you didn’t like being alone. That wasn't what you wanted. You didn’t like not fitting in, not belonging. It hurt, at first, having no one. No one to talk to, to hang out with. All you had was yourself.
Your family made up for it, though. How could you not be happy with them? They filled the hole in your heart made from loneliness, all you could see was the good things in your life when you had them.
“You’re always lookin’ on the bright side, honey. Always makin’ my day better. It’s something we should all take after you,” your father, Jake, always said to you.
Everything was yellow and bright in your life. The way you and your siblings could all fit on your hammock back home, sleeping together. Learning how to shoot with a bow. Your mother, Neytiri, making arrows and weaving tops with you and your sisters.
Coming closer to becoming an adult in the eyes of the Omaticaya every passing day. The pretty flowers you’d harvest to bring to Jake, the close-knit bond of your family. All good things, always good things. Nothing, not even the loneliness, could break your sunshine.
So, you saw your move to the reefs as a chance to explore the world and make it exciting rather than sad. Maybe you’d find people to fit in with, even though this clan was so drastically different from yours, there has to be someone here for you, right?
“Are you a freak?”
Startled, your gaze on the bright blue water shifts to look around, “What?”
It was Ao’nung, your demeanor calms. “I said, are you some sort of freak?”
You smile at him, standing from your crouched position on the sand, “No, Ao’nung, m’not.” Even this close up, he’s breathtaking. His face is inches from yours.
He falters but rebuts, “what about your hands, huh? You’ve got demon in you. Five fingers.”Ao’nung takes your hand, emphasizing his point by shoving your own hand in your face. But he’s holding your hand, so softly, too. Not squeezing  or gripping it harshly. Your heart is swelling and you wonder if he’s feeling the same electricity from the contact.
You reluctantly pull your hand from his grasp, a small smile present on your face. He must be teasing you, no harm in a little banter.
“Got five from my dad. Used to be a human and now he’s Toruk Makto. He’s the greatest warrior on Pandora.”
“Oh, yeah? Why’s the mighty Toruk Makto hiding out here in the reefs, then? Must still be human, running away from his own battles. It’s pathetic,” you understand, now, he’s not teasing. He’s speaking from disgust.
“No, he’s Na’vi. Has been for years now. We’re Na’vi, not Sky People, dream walkers.” You see him, you understand his confusion, his distaste, his ignorance. You want him to see you, too.
Maybe he will see you as more than a forest girl, more than a demon. Maybe he will see your qualities, your fast learning, your fascination with the water, your adoration for him. Maybe he will see you the same way you see him, as a future mate. His girl.
“But you aren’t Na’vi, can’t you see that? You don’t belong in this world, here, with us. You’re meant to be with the Sky People, not here, bringing your war to us. It’s selfish, just what Sky People would do. Cower and destroy. You don’t see like Na’vi, you don’t understand like Na’vi. You don’t belong,” he finishes, stalking away back to the village.
Your heart can’t help but shatter. Each of Ao’nung’s harsh words pricking at your heart and tears from your eyes. And still, you can’t help but yearn for him.

“C’mon! We have to go get Spider!” Lo’ak nodded his head towards the inside of the ship as you cut him free from his restraints.
“What?” you responded, unable to process what he’d just said.
Your older brother behind you, Neteyam, cut off the tie bounding Tuk’s hands with a dagger, and another quick snap further behind told you Ao’nung had just cut off Tsireya’s.
You and your siblings were in the middle of a full blown war.
Besides almost getting crushed by Payakan, getting taken hostage, killing about 5 people trying to save your siblings, and witnessing the deaths of many of your own people, things in your opinion were going great so far.
“C’mon sis, we can’t leave without him!” Lo’ak crouched down, picking up a gun from one of the fallen na’vi soldiers slouched against the railings, blood seeping down their skull.
Your gaze was fixed on the grip of the gun that was firmly clasped in his fingers, stained with red at the bottom. The blood trickled down silently, creating a small pool on the already drenched floor, yet it seemed inconsequential amidst the chaos.
In that brief moment of dread, a warm hand fell on your shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly.
Something similar to fear took over your body, causing you to be unable to take your eyes off your younger brother who looked at you hopefully, while you stood there like a deer caught in headlights.
It wasn’t like you didn’t want to save him. The images of blood spraying all over replayed in your mind, making it hard to focus on anything else.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to,” a comforting voice drifted through the air, pulling you back into reality.
The foreign accent had a calming effect on your senses, a zap of electricity running down your queue.
Whipping your head, you met the eyes of the person who had spoken, the comforting shade of aquamarine looking back at you with such emotion.
Lo’ak rolled his eyes at the sight, a low growl forming in his throat. He never approved of your relationship with the boy, but what could he do about it? He was in love with the man’s sister!
Neteyam sauntered towards your brother, braids waving wildly in the air as they always did.
“I’ll go with you,” he nodded at Lo’ak, ignoring Ao’nung completely as he looked at you, seeking any form of approval.
Your brows knitted together, and you shook your head.
“It’s fine. I’ll go. We all know I’m a better warrior than Neteyam anyways.” you joked, attempting to lift the mood.
“Are you sure?” Neteyam said softly.
“Positive. You should go and help out the other warriors.” you nodded, feeling the comforting warmth of Ao’nung’s hand leave your shoulder.
Looking back at him, you could see the fear and concern etched on your lover's face. He looked so perplexed, a reaction you’d never seen on his face before.
Before you could take a single step, his arms pulled you in for a hug as if he was shielding you from any threat that could harm you.
He didn’t want you to leave.
Lo’ak and Neteyam groaned, looking instead at the ocean, watching the metkayina and the sky people battle for their opposing goals.
Ao’nung leaned in and pressed his forehead against yours.
"Please be careful."
The sound that came from his mouth was barely but a whisper, as if he would choke if he said it any louder.
You smiled, placing a hand on his neck reassuringly.
“I’ll come back to you. I promise.”
As the words left your lips, you waved a farewell to him before going inside the ship, Lo’ak in front of you.
The thumping of your heart echoed in your chest like an empty chamber. You weren’t going to break a promise.
At least,
not this time.
“Lereho!” a guttural, high pitched scream reverberated throughout the forest.
The sleeping creatures lifted their heads up in the sky, ears pointing in all different directions, attempting to make out the source of the scream.
“LEREHO!” a 7-year-old you screamed even louder, tears flowing down your pale face as you looked at the rusty helicopter.
The rusty helicopter which had now trapped your friend inside its worn down metal walls, and he scratched against the door endlessly, trying to get out.
“I- I-” your words were unable to come out, your entire body trembling with fear.
The large metal body was encased in mossy vines that suspended it above the lake, and Eywa knows Lereho couldn’t swim to save his life.
“I’LL GET HELP, LEREHO! PLEASE STAY HERE!” you cried out, praying to the Great Mother he could hear you.
“I PROMISE I’LL GET YOU OUT OF THERE!” you yelled, your voice hoarse and strained, your entire body buckling down with the weight of your words.
You turned back and ran as far as you could, as fast as your legs could take you. Your face was all scrunched up and your eyes were full of tears, partly obscuring your vision.
Branches scratched your body and drew blood from your fresh wounds, but you didn’t care. Guilt overtook your body and put you on autopilot.
If you hadn’t told him to, he wouldn’t have gone in the helicopter with you.
If you hadn’t been stupid, you wouldn’t have closed the door.
If you hadn’t slipped on the vines on your way back to solid ground, the helicopter wouldn’t be creaking slowly, on its way to submerge him fully in the lake.
If you hadn’t been friends with him in the first place, maybe he would’ve been alright right now.
You wiped the water from your eyes and the snot from your nose harshly with your bleeding hands.
By the time you returned with your father, all that was left were the torn apart vines flowing loosely in the wind of the night.
They couldn’t even retrieve his body.
Beads of water welled up at the corners of your eyes as you crouched along the wall, Spider in your sights.
Blinking rapidly to get rid of them, you leapt down with Lo’ak, taking care of the humans surrounding your friend mercilessly.
You screamed as you smashed the last one’s skull along the railing, flipping them into the water, heavy pants leaving your chest as the adrenaline wore off.
“Woah. You alright?” Lo’ak gasped, slightly concerned.
“I’m fine,” you breathed out. “We have to go, now.”
You grabbed a gun from one of the dead soldiers, and not long after you heard the sounds of rapid gunfire hit metal a bit too close to you for your liking.
With your instincts you dove out of the way, grabbing Spider with your free hand and quickly crawling along the floor towards the moonpool, ensuring that Lo’ak was still behind you.
The shots from the gun made the air burn in your lungs, and you coughed vehemently before hiding behind a wall just in front of the moonpool, whispering a quick apology to Spider for being so harsh with him.
“You two go!” you shouted at the two boys behind you, whipping out your gun in an attempt to kill the bastard who was shooting so restlessly at you.
“Are you nuts? We aren’t leaving you!” Lo’ak yelled back, considerably offended you’d think he’d abandon you so easily.
“Just go now! I’ll be fine!” you growled, taking another shot at the recom.
Amidst the deafening sounds of gunfire, you were able to discern two distinct splashes in the water.
Retreating behind the wall for cover, you swiftly reloaded your weapon with the remaining ammunition scattered on the ground.
Taking a deep breath, you braced yourself and emerged once again, determined to make your final shot count.
Ao’nung whipped his head around frantically as he stood on one of the ships purposed for hunting tulkun, all of the previous occupiers…removed.
He looked towards the ship for any possible sign that you were still okay.
He’d witnessed Lo’ak and Spider riding away from the ship on an ilu, but where were you?
His heart beat faster and faster with every shallow breath he desperately took, unable to imagine what had happened to you.
Just before he was about to call his own ilu, he heard a loud splash from the water behind him.
He turned his body, bracing for a surprise attack, but instead, he got a surprise hug.
As your body melded with his, you rested your chin on his shoulder, feeling a calming sense of peace.
At first, his hands trembled as he placed them on your back, taken aback by the sudden embrace.
But gradually, he relaxed into it, a radiant smile gracing his face as he shut his eyes, savouring every point of contact between your bodies, determined to remember what it felt like.
There were so many things he’d wanted to say to you, but only three words left his quivering lips.
“You… came back,” he choked out, even attempting to hug you tighter, before realising that he might have been hurting you- to which he loosened his grip.
You sighed contently, gazing at the water behind him. “I promised.”
Just then, you saw something underneath the ripples of the ocean.
Everything was too fast for him to process.
One second, he was hugging you like it was the last thing he could ever do with you in the world.
The next second, it actually was.
His eyelids whipped wide open as he heard a gunshot, his body hitting the floor in the direction opposite to where he was originally standing.
You threw him out of harm’s way.
The last time he’d ever seen you was with your mouth agape and pupils shrunken into the size of his thumb, as you fell lifelessly backwards into the water with a loud splash.
“NO!” he screamed helplessly as he scrambled up from the floor, his knees scraping against metal as he crawled frantically towards the edge to see if you were alright.
The only thing he could see from the surface of the water was your blood slowly tinting the ocean red. No bubbles. No sign of you resurfacing.
Without hesitation, he plunged into the blood-red ocean, his body slicing through the water with a sense of urgency. As he dove deeper, his limbs thrashed and flailed, propelled by a desperate need to reach you and bring you back to the surface.
His panicked movements grew increasingly frantic as he searched for you, his bloodshot eyes darting around frantically in the murky depths. Every fibre of his being was focused on finding you, but as he scanned the water, he realised with a jolt that you were nowhere to be found.
Determined to keep searching, he pushed himself to swim deeper, his hands and feet churning the water as he scoured the depths for any sign of you.
But as he descended further and further into the abyss, his vision began to blur, and his lungs burned with the need for air.
Despite his physical limitations, he refused to give up, driven by a fierce determination to find you.
All he could see was the trail of your blood, leading him deeper into the unknown.
His fingers outstretched, he tried to reach you, but it was too late.
His lungs burned with a searing pain as he struggled to hold his breath. But he refused to give up, clinging to the hope that he would find you alive and well.
As the seconds ticked by, his chances grew slimmer, and his body began to betray him. His limbs felt heavy and sluggish, and his vision grew hazy with tears.
Despite his efforts, he simply couldn't hold on any longer.
He broke the surface of the water, gasping for air as his heart shattered into a million pieces.
The devastating reality of his failure hit him like a ton of bricks, leaving him reeling with a sense of loss and despair.
A soul-wrenching cry tore through the air.
The sound was so raw and guttural that it felt as if it came from the very depths of the earth itself, carrying with it the weight of a thousand shattered dreams.
It was the kind of cry that would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, a sound that would haunt you long after battle was over.
The cries of the wounded and dying were nothing compared to the sheer agony and despair that his cry conveyed.
The realisation hit him like a ton of bricks - he had lost you forever.
The person he loved most in this world was gone, sacrificed her life to save his. The weight of his grief was so heavy that it felt like a physical burden, crushing him from the inside out.
He wanted to scream, to wail to Eywa, to beg for a chance to take your place.
But he was powerless, reduced to a helpless witness of his own tragedy.
He could feel the weight of his guilt like a physical pain, knowing that you had given your life for his.
Every following moment he had to live without you was a torture, a constant reminder of what he had lost.
He tried to fill the void with his duties, with distractions, with anything that would make the pain go away, but nothing worked.
He would lie awake at night, imagining the pain you felt, the last moments of your life. He pictured you sinking into the cold, dark depths of the ocean, alone and scared, the light fading from your eyes.
It was a pain that he knew would never truly leave him, a wound that would never fully heal.
He felt as if a part of him had died with you, and he knew that he would never be whole again.
They couldn’t retrieve your body. You couldn’t have a proper burial. He couldn’t ever see you again, not even through the spirit tree.
Having to explain what happened to you to your family almost killed him; he could only imagine the pain they felt if he was feeling that way.
He blamed himself. And deep down inside, he knew that they did too.

Warnings: grammatical errors (feel free to tell me!), older Ao'nung, angst? mention of death BUT HAPPY ENDING <33
please, let me know if you liked it!!! thanks!
THE SONG IS NOT MINE!!! IT'S CALLED: if the world was ending.
BEAUTIFUL ART OF OLDER AO'NUNG IS ALSO NOT MINE, FULL CREDITS TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER/ARTIST. here's the link where i found it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Y/N has always been mysterious. Even as a small child, Ao'nung remembered her as a small, quiet girl. But even when he got to know her, and played with her in the water, she never told him anything about herself. He could talk for hours and she said nothing.
He started liking Y/N as a teenager. She was really pretty, not pretty, beautiful, and caught the eyes of many. Ao'nung had to fight for her, for her favor. For the favor of the mysterious beauty, as he called her. That nickname got on Y/N's nerves.
But Y/N didn't want him. She didn't want the others either.
Ao'nung didn't understand. He went then, 15 years old, to his father, all unhappy with Y/N's rejection.
"Son, now listen carefully," Tonowari told him.
His wife, Ronal was amused by this, she liked that the girl taught her son a lesson that he doesn't always get what he wants. Of course, she felt sorry for him. But it brought a smile to her lips that her son is growing up. She was sure that girl liked him, she knew it from the way Y/N looked at her son. They were too young to have serious love.
"You shouldn't tell your mother this. But Y/L/N's girls were always mysterious as well as beautiful. So very much. Ah. I knew her mother, Ao'nung. She was a beautiful woman. Honor to her memory,"
Ao'nung never knew Y/N's mom, Y/N didn't like to talk about her. It was known that she died because someone from the sky people killed her.
"If I didn't know your mom back then, I probably would have thing with her. And maybe not. She already had a thing with Y/N's father by then." Tonowari thought.
"Dad, what does this have to do with what you want to tell me? Ugh,” Ao'nung rolled his eyes.
"Sorry! I want to tell you, son, that the girl has some secrets that she doesn't want to tell you. Some painful secrets like her mother. You know, she may be beautiful, but is she worth it? To love someone who will never reveal himself to you?"
"Marriage is not boring then, you still have the opportunity to learn something about each other," Ronal appeared out of nowhere.
"Ronal," Tonowari said and Ronal apologized with her eyes and walked away with some herb she had come for. She left them alone.
"But mom is right, dad. I want her and one day I will have her," Ao'nung declared confidently.
His father messed up the hair on his son's head. “Okay, Ao'nung. But wait a little longer, because now you are a child. And she's too. Everything will come. And choose with your heart, not your mind. Whether she will be your wife or another, love each other."
10 years later
Y/N was holding the blue flower Ao'nung had given her. Olo'eyktan. Her husband.
This year was so sad. For the whole clan. Tonowari died. In battle. Ao'nung didn't take it well and Y/N stood by him. She wiped his tears and comforted him. But Ao'nung had to become their leader. He has to be Olo'eyktan like his father. Y/N knew his father would be proud of him.
"But he would like you to stand up. To be strong," she put her hand on his shoulder.
Ao'nung took her hand and looked into her eyes. She was now his support in these difficult times. Not that he didn't have support from his pregnant sister, but his sister had enough of her worries. He didn't want to bother her. And his mother? She went away somewhere. She needed to be alone. After all, she lost her husband.
Only Y/N didn't leave him. She stood by him. She always stood by him. It was strange, Ao'nung sometimes acted like a jerk, but for some strange reason, she was always there for him. She once revealed to him that it was because she liked him.
"Ao'nung, I look at you and see a strong leader in you. Like your father. You will be a wise and strong leader. I am proud of you,"
Ao'nung dropped to his knees before her and kissed her hands.
"What are you doing?? Get up!” Y/N ordered him.
Ao'nung ignored her.
“Y/N… be with me. Rule with me. I love you."
Y/N had tears in her eyes. "Ao'nung..." she didn't want to believe what was happening. Her childhood friend, who had been chasing her for years, had grown up and become a man. And now he is kneeling in front of her and begging her to become his wife.
"Please. You are my only comfort. Hope."
"Yes. Ao'nung. Yes.” she threw herself around his neck and Ao'nung kissed her tears away. They kissed each other's tears. They always loved each other, even though Y/N took longer because.. she didn't even know why. But she knew one thing her heart belonged to Ao'nung.
╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ Ao'nung slept hard. Y/N didn't. It didn't make sense, they made love all night, they promised each other their love, they mated and they were married. She should have been tired. But she wasn't. She stared at the sky full of stars.
She turned and looked at her husband. He was so handsome. He always was, but now he seemed the most handsome to her.
She had one thing to do. She simply had to. She had to say goodbye and start over. She hoped Ao'nung would forgive her. He might not even notice.
She kissed him and stood up. She threw on her clothes and quietly went to the water. The whole village was asleep and that was good. She quietly called her Ilu. Then she stroked it and they set off.
She had to go to the Tree Of Spirits.
The sea was so magical at night, everything was lit up and sea life was bustling under the water.
When they reached their destination, Y/N sent Ilu away and went to the tree. She connected her braid to the tree.

╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ “Y/N. Every night, every year. You will always come," her mother hugged her.
Y/N was shaking, tears in her eyes. "Mom. I miss you,"
She stroked her hair. "I know, honey."
"Mom... I came to say goodbye to you. I love you but…” Y/N looked at her mother.
"I know. It's time. Don't give up. But to let go," her mother whispered to her.
"I am letting you go. All those years..."
“It wasn't your fault, Y/N. Stop blaming yourself. It was my decision."
"I could have saved you"
"You were a child. What mother would not sacrifice herself for her child?"
Y/N cried:" I saw it. I saw how they killed you. In a brutal way. It never left my mind. I couldn't save you."
Her mother grabbed her hand. "Angel, I'm dead. And I am at peace. I never once regretted my decision. It was the best decision. To let you live."
She sighed. "But promise me something. You won't come here again. You let me go. A new beautiful life full of love awaits you."
"Your husband will love you until his last breath. But you have to forgive yourself. I forgive you, even if I have nothing to forgive, but if it gives you inner peace, then I forgive you. Eywa forgives you too," the mother touched Y/N's heart. "Now is the time for you to forgive yourself."

╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ Ao'nung smiled in satisfaction. He finally smiled. He was smiling after those long dark days. He had a beautiful passionate night with a woman, his wife, whom he sincerely loves.
He turned towards her to say something, but she wasn't there. He got up angrily. He must be dreaming of that! He went outside, but she was nowhere in sight.
The sun was slowly rising and Ao'nung looked for her all over the village. She was nowhere.
Did she run away from him?
Of course, it was too good to be true. Of course, she left. She left him like everyone else. He roared like a wounded roar and fell to his knees.
"Ao'nung," his sister walked up to him and wanted to get him to his feet. "You don't know what day it is today, do you?"
╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ Y/N had a big problem. She had inner peace, but she found out a terrible thing. And that she was much longer there than she planned. She found it out by the sun. She was afraid to go back to the village, but she had to be strong.
She hoped that no one would be waiting for her on the beach, but she was wrong. There were a lot of them. But Ao'nung was not there. Y/N's heart skipped a beat. Was he angry?
"Olo'eyktan! She's back!" someone shouted and Ao'nung appeared from the shadows, like a god of vengeance. He had an angry expression on his face. But he didn't want to make a scene in front of everyone, so without a word, he grabbed her hand and dragged her to where they would have privacy.
"Ao'nung."
"Shut up. Now I'll speak," he said angrily, making sure no one heard them.
"How could you do this to me? After our night, you just disappeared. Do you know what it was like to wake up and you weren't there? I was really worried about you! Y/N!” he yelled.
Y/N looked down. She felt useless. She was sorry.
"Ao'nung, I would never leave you. You know that." she whispered.
Ao'nung looked down at her. "Really? How can I trust you?"
Y/N fell to her knees. "Sorry. I'm sorry, but I had to do it. I had to forgive myself," she whispered.
"Get up," he motioned to her, but she didn't get up. She shook her head. "Punish me if you want, I deserve it, Olo'eyktan."
Ao'nung's expression softened. “I don't want to punish you, y/n. I love you too much for that. But please, let's be honest with each other." he sat down. "No more secrets. I don't know if I can handle any more secrets. I used to like that about you, Y/N, that you were mysterious but now.."
"I understand that. And I have nothing to hide from you. I'll tell you everything," she took a deep breath.
1 year later
Ao'nung kissed his wife passionately. She giggled. "Ao'nung, stop! Someone can see us!"
"Then let them see how I love you," he rolled his eyes.
Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck. "I love you so much, my husband"
"I love you too, my mysterious beauty."
"You know I have nothing to hide from you anymore," she sighed and Ao'nung grabbed her hand. "I know, but I still like that about you and I always will. It was part of you and it still is."

Fuck Off
Lo'ak x Nerd Reader
Series Masterlist
Prt 7 of the Fucking The Nerd Series
Summary: lo'ak finally realizes his mistakes and flies over to make right what he did wrong.
Warning: none
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yn/3rd person pov
A country over from yn, lo'ak sits in his bed lonely normally at this time him and yn would be in his bed enjoying whatever show was on.
Yn would be giggling at each joke that was said while laying on his chest but now he was all alone he hadn't even tried to see you after what happened but now he's starting to realize his mistake.
He didn't even listen to your side of the story or even taken into account that you don't even know her, lo'ak sighed deeply and took out his phone to scroll through insta.
He was bored out of his mind ari'ek has gone m.i.a on him and all he can actually think about was you.
"What the fuck" he hissed as he came upon your post with Aonung and Rotxo who were cuddling you his eyes flaired with anger.
"Best holiday ever" he hissed out as he read the caption but when his eyes flicked to your face his heart filled with sadness you were smiling brightly.
When he left you at school tears were running down your face and he did nothing about it "I have to make things right" he muttered and grabbed his coat.
-Time skip-
Now back with you, you were cuddling with Aonung on your bed as you talked about random things as your hands played with his.
"I'm glad your enjoying yourself here" he murmured his eyes never leaving mine "I am I totally forgot how fun this place is" I smiled.
He paused for a moment before fully taking my hand in his "d-do you ever" he paused taking a deep breath "do you ever think about moving back" he asked making my breath hitch.
"Yea I do bu-" I was interrupted by someone calling out my name my eye brows frowned is that, no it can't be "yn" he called out again.
"Who is that" aonung asked as we got up to look outside my heart clenched as I caught sight of him "it's lo'ak" I whispered as I made my way out my room and down the stairs.
"The guy that left you" aonung muttered as he followed me and grabbed my hand stopping me from opening the door "are you sure you want to see him" he asked.
I looked between him and the door "I just have to" I murmured and he looked at me for a second before slowly nodding and let me go.
I let out a shakey breathe before opening up the door my eyes flattering as I came face to face with lo'ak "w-what do you want" I muttered.
He looked kinda panicked as I spoke "I came to apologize" he whispered his eyes flickering between me and aonung.
"About" he can hear the anger in my tone as I spoke which made him gulp "yn I realized my mistake and I want to make it up to you" my lip quivered.
I looked down at the ground I didn't know what to do I still care for him but my feelings had been divided because of aonung.
"I think its best you leave-"

Ao’nung has known (Y/N) for as long as he knew life. He couldn’t think of a time when you weren’t attached to his sister’s hips. And in a way it made sense, your parents were good friends with his parents. So for most of his life, you were just another annoying sister and someone he generally ignored unless he wanted to prank you with his friends.
But then at some point, he saw you in a different light. The way you smiled at him, all toothy and sweet. The way the sun would shine on your blue eyes, how your skin was the same teal color as the ocean, and the marking on your skin looked like the waves. How he would love to trace them with his fingers.
In every sense of the word, you were undoubtedly stunning. You gave him butterflies, and Ao’nung didn't get butterflies. Sure, he gave other people those feelings because look at him. But it was never the other way around.
Instead, it was. And there was proof of those feelings whenever your hand brushed against his or how your laugh made him smile. Hell, even you looking in his general direction did something to him.
“Oh Eywa, dude this is getting depressing now,” Rotxo grumbled in irritation. “This is the 3rd time this week I caught you staring at them, looking like a lost baby ilu.”
Ao’nung and Rotxo were sitting by the shore, watching you play with your ilu. You were just laughing and splashing in the water with him, no care for anything but the two of you.
He groaned at his friend but before he could say anything Rotxo stopped him. “No, no, I am being serious right now. You like them, so why not just grow a pair and tell them how you feel? Your whole personality is being confident so I don’t get it.”
Ao’nung looked at him and saw the sincerity in his eyes. While he and Rotxo were close, they weren’t the type to pour out their feelings to each other. It’s just not the type of person that he was. It wasn't an easy thing for Ao’nung to do. To expose the deepest part of himself to others.
His pride is something he greatly valued but it’s so fragile, like glass, that he will do anything to protect it. Which is why he couldn’t tell you how he felt. Ao’nung and you were at a place where you could consider yourself comfortable in the presence of the other and, telling you might end up ruining the comfort you felt around him.
“Because it’s not that serious, man.” He quietly chuckled at his friend like this was a joke. One big joke. “It’s just a little crush. Trust me it won’t get any deeper than that.” Rotxo didn’t look the least bit convinced with his answer by the way his eyes flicked up and down, judging me like I was a fool. And hey, maybe he was the fool for making things harder than they needed to be. But this is his plan so he’s sticking to it. “Hey, wanna go on an ilu race? Or is all this sentimental talk to stop me from absolutely destroying you?”
Rotxo has many great, and equally horrible, qualities. One of them was extremely 50/50, his competitiveness. Sometimes he’d get way too into it, and if that’s coming from Ao’nung, then you know it’s bad. Sometimes, not as much. However, it also means if you pushed the right buttons, he’d lose track of whatever he was originally thinking.
He glared at Ao’nung, offended that he’d even imagined the idea of beating him, much less speaking it into existence. “So, that’s how it’s gonna be?” He got up and started to call to his ilu and Ao’nung readily followed suit. It was supposed to be a ruse to get Rotxo to drop the topic, yet he’d only just scratched the surface.
“Yo, (Y/N) come and be the ref for our race!” Rotxo called out to you and gave his friend a knowing look. That conniving little shit, always having something up his eywa-damned sleeve.
But before he could give Rotxo hell for it, they appeared. The forest people, riding on their..ikans? He thinks they're called. Ao’nung wonders what they were here for. Forest people belong in the forest, not the reefs.
“Guys, father is calling a clan meeting,” Tsireya called out to us. She looked confused, and slightly anxious, mainly confused. Her lips were pursed together and her eyes were darting around. Ao’nung knew why, the last time a group of Na’vi, he assume from the forest, traveled out this far it had not been good news.
It happened 15 years ago, a year just after hr was born. The war, as the people called it. The Toruk Makto, a former Dreamwalker, rallied up the many clans who lived in the forest, along the reefs, and on the plains to fight against the other Dreamwalkers. The war was devastating even though we won. Homes were destroyed and families have ripped apart.
They all walked along the path to the clan meeting grounds. The usual chit-chattering was replaced by dead silence as each Metkayina racked their brains for why this was happening, and what it could mean for their clan.

Ao’nung was fucking seething, frothing at the mouth even. He was so irritated, it wasn't fair at all. It wasn’t, it just wasn’t fair. For some reason, his father had asked, no, he had demanded that Ao’nung and his sister help the Omatiakan teens settle into their new home.
It turns out that the oh-great Toruk Makto and his family are being hunted, so instead of fighting  like an actual Na’vi would have, he ran away like those Dreamwalkers do. Ao’nung guessed under the blue skin and towering height, he still was nothing more than a Dreamwalker, a demon.
He didn’t come asking for help to battle, but to hide and cower like a coward with his family. And on top of that, some of them had 5 fingers. And they were forest people. Their indigo skin would stand out starkly against the vast and rich cerulean sea and make it harder to hide from predators that they couldn’t outswim or fight. Speaking about outswimming, their skinny tails and arms would make it hard for them to swim against the harsh currents. They would never survive in the reefs. And if Ao’nung had thought of all this, for certain, his Father did as well.
“Okay,” Tsireya says, clapping her hands together. “First order of business is introducing each other.” She smiled warmly at the forest people, that’s his sister for you. Always kind and welcoming, even to outsiders. He definitely hoped that you would have a better head on your shoulders.
Right now everyone is sitting in a circle near the ocean. The actual first order of business was to teach the forest people how to breathe underwater. So pretty much teaching the basics that even kids as young as three could do in their sleep.
Ao’nung still couldn’t understand why his father would volunteer him to waste his precious free time teaching these forest people. His sister seemed more than happy to teach them by herself so why’d he have to tag along? His only saving grace was that you were also in attendance, Rotxo having tagged along too. Not that he’s happy because he likes you or anything. Just that having his both friends here makes it more bearable.
“Well, I’ll go first,” You started with a warm grin on your face. So you didn’t have a good head on your shoulder. He didn’t know why he expected better, you were always one to lend a helping hand.
You looked breath-taking today, your hair hanging loose and a set of matching bracelets adorned your wrist. They’d look really pretty with a necklace to finish off the look. “Hello, my name is (Y/N). It’s really nice to meet you guys, even if it’s under these circumstances.”
“Oh, that’s a pretty name,” one of the forest people said. “My name is Lo’ak.” he gave you a ‘charming’ smile that had Ao’nung pouting like a little baby.
Out of the corner of his eye, Ao’nung saw his sister smile slightly and murmur something under her breath. Now, he wasn’t the best mouth reader but he was pretty sure that she said that boy’s name. Does she like him? Already? It’s only been a few minutes, damn. Oh, Eywa help him.
The rest of the forest freaks and Rotxo introduced themselves but he couldn’t be bothered to listen to any of them. He saw the lingering glances that Lo’ak kept giving you and how you’d laugh at all of his stupid and frankly cringe-worthy jokes. But he doesn’t care, well he does care but not that much though.  But not because he likes you or anything, just looking out for you like a friend should. Yeah, just looking out for you because you deserve a good person and this Lo’ak dude is below average.
Though, Ao’nung understood exactly why Lo’ak fell for you. While teaching them how to breathe, you were always patient and calm with everyone. Especially with Lo’ak who just so happens to always need extra help. And will always need it from you. To Ao’nung’s dismay, Lo’ak’s constant longing stares, bright smile directed towards you, maybe a touch that lasted too long all continued well into the months that the Sullys had stayed here.
And then, it happened. It was during their training sessions when Lo’ak went under and hadn’t come out. Tsireya was the first to notice his absence, shouting at the others for help. Ao’nung brushed it off as him just wanting attention from you yet again. He’d been pretending that he can’t ride the ilu so he’ll need help or something along those lines if that didn't work.
However, you had dived right into the water in search of him, while his sister and Rotxo called to their ilus.
“Neteyam, you guys stay here in case he washes up along the shore!” Tsireya called out before riding out into the blue waves on her ilu in search of the ‘missing’ teen.
“Shouldn’t we call the adults?” Kiri, the freakiest of them all, asked her brother. Neteyam was by far the only tolerable one. Then she looked at me, “Aren’t you gonna do something, fish lips?” She sneered the question out.
Ao’nung only rolls his eyes at her naivety. She had grown up with the idiot and still didn’t know his tactics.  “Oh give me a break. You guys have been here for weeks now, the only reason that idiot is ‘drowning’ is because he wants attention!” He snapped back at her.
Whatever the freak said next fell on deaf ears as he watched you pull the idiot out of the water. You were mesmerizing, the ocean blended in with your skin, making you seem a part of it. You looked powerful and fearless, carrying the boy on your back effortlessly. Once you got to the shore, the others quickly surrounded you guys. Ao’nung watched as you laid Lo’ak on his back, checking him over. Giving him your undivided attention. You started chest compressions on him and in a few minutes, he was coughing up water.
But let this be known, Ao’nung is not jealous because he doesn’t like you like that. He just doesn’t want you with someone who would pay a cheap trick like that on you.
Laying his head in your lap and looking down at him you spoke gently. “Are you okay, Lo’ak? Can you breathe?” You looked up, face wrecked with worry and terror as you turned to Tsireya. “Reya, please go get your mother.”
“No,” Lo’ak protested weakly. He sits up but his hand is still holding on to yours. “I’m fine. Thanks for saving me.” He’s all smiles and heart eyes. Gross.
After the situation died down he went to his family’s shared Mauri, laying on his back and staring at the huts roof. That’s when he realized it. Thinking about the feelings he had regarding you and Lo’ak. He always knew, deep down, that he liked you. More than a friend.
“I like them.” He says to himself, softly. Testing out the sentence on the tips of his lips. “I like them.” He said again, with more confidence this time. He likes the way saying it makes him feel. The beating of his heart and the heat from his cheeks. This feeling was familiar but foreign in the same way. Either way, he loved this feeling. He loved you.
The pain in his chest returned once he realized he was more than likely too late. He knew what that forest freak was going to do after this. It was clear as day, anyone could see it.  And he doesn’t know who he hates more. Lo’ak or himself.
____________________________________________
Ao’nung had an idea. It was a stupid and hypocritical given his thoughts on what Lo’ak had done, but it was an idea nonetheless. He wanted to tell you about his feelings. He wanted to say them so much that it hurt and his throat closed up from how dry his screams of confession would become. He didn’t know if you would accept his feelings but the least he wanted to say was the he tried.
Ao’nung and you were alone for the day, with the forest freaks off exploring and only Eywa knows where his sister had run off to. He didn’t know what was up with her these days but she’d been moody and snappy.
The sun was high in the cloudless sky and the waves were calm. Usually, this scenery would soothe Ao’nung but nothing could with the pounding of his heart.
“So, wanna go for a swim today?” He asked you, he had assumed newly courted pairs would be together unless you had rejected Lo’ak or the fingered demon hadn’t said anything yet. No matter the reason, this was his chance.
“Yes, that would be great, Ao’nung.” You gave him a smile before a devilish smirk slipped onto your face. “The last one there is a rotten ilu egg!” Was the only warning he had gotten before you took off into the ocean.
Ao’nung let out a bright laugh and ran to join you in the ocean, determined to not lose. He dove into the water, the coolness of it was a relief from the scorching sun that was burning him a few minutes ago. One of the best things about living among the reefs was how calm the water was. The oceanic life around him was just beautiful, he saw it every day yet it always managed to take his breath away. The plants were colorful and the animals swam around you both, not paying attention to either of you as both you and Ao’nung admired them.
The swim was one of the best he had in a while, and it was most definitely not because you were there. Okay, maybe it was because you were here.
He wanted to do it, to have your attention. No more forest boy trying to steal you away. And that's when he realized how. He'd go under, you'd save him, and then he’ll confess his feelings. It would be perfect.
So with a deep breath and his mind set on putting his plan into motion, he let go of his breath and let the water push their way into his lungs. The waters presence in his lungs was immediate and uncomfortable. Oh, Eywa, it was terrifying. His instincts were telling him to swim up or breathe correctly or do something. Ao’nung would like to say that he refused because he wanted the plan to work. But truthfully it was because he was in shock and he begged you'd notice.
And when you did, the panic in your eyes crushed him. Regret filled him immediately. You swarmed quickly towards him and, once securing your hold on him, swam upwards. You struggled slightly with the weight of you both dragging you down, not to mention how scared you were. Your tears mixed with the seas, a sight that broke him even more.
Death by drowning did not happen frequently because of how strict the Metkayina were with learning to hold your breath. But when it did, it was a tragedy, mostly because the victims did it on purpose. Ao’nung watched you as you dragged his body to the golden sandy shores and quickly began chest compressions on him. He watched as you pressed into his chest, counting to yourself. He was starting to hear a ringing noise and his vision started to blacken. The last thing he saw, the last thing he remembered was how wide your eyes were. How the eyes he had grown to love so much had tears pouring out of them as you screamed, but Ao’nung didn’t hear it.
When he had finally woken up in his family’s Marui, Ao’nung slowly blinked and tried to remember how he had gotten there.
Oh.
Oh no.
He had to find you! He had to explain, he had to apologize. Shame and panic filled him and his heart grew heavy as he remembered the fear in your eyes and the tears that were already spilling. He had just wanted your attention, and was too much of a coward to be upfront with it.
“You need to rest, my son,” his mother’s voice spoke to him as she entered the Marui. It was soothing and almost lured him back. Almost. He got up and tried to push past his mother, but she stopped him in his tracks.
“No. Mom, I have to..” He struggled against her and attempted to break free of her hold. But she was stronger than him and managed to get him back into his cot. “What you have to do is get better,” she corrected me with a hard look. But her eyes softened, “You have a visitor though.”
She gave Ao’nung a smile, before walking back out again to grab his visitor. Not even a minute later you come rushing in. Tears still stained your cheeks and your eyes were still red from how much had been crying. “Oh, Great Mother! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” You repeated like a mantra and hugged him. The hug was fierce but not too strong. Even when you are hurting, you still are considerate.
“I’ll give you two a minute,” His mother said, standing by the entrance. Nothing gave away her true feelings but, with a knowing look directed to Ao’nung, she left the Mauri.
Once you’d calmed down, you smiled sheepishly at Ao’nung and cleared your throat, “Um, sorry for how I acted earlier. It…it was just so scary seeing you passed out like that. You looked so terrified and then you were out for days. But anyways, how are you feeling?”
Guilty, like an idiot, like…like how I described the Toruk Mako at the beginning. A coward. “I- I am fine.” He finally smiled back at you. He had to tell you. No no, he should tell you. He had no right to your attention. Not after what he had put you through. “Listen, I have to tell you something.”
“Wait! Wait, before that,” You smiled at him. The same bright smile that he loved to see so much. “I have something for you.” You pulled out a bracelet, it looked similar to the ones you always wore. Hell, you are even wearing them right now. You slipped it on his wrist and it was gorgeous. Made from different types of seashells that could be found littered around the shores.
“Its an apology bracelet, and a little something more.” You said, not looking at him and with a small blush creeping its way onto your face. “Ao’nung, I am so so sorry. I wasn’t strong enough and I should’ve called for help but I didn’t. If I did, then maybe you would have woken up sooner.”
“Hey, hey. None of that.” He corrected you. “What happened to ‘it is your fault and your fault alone Ao’nung!’? Okay, do not blame yourself.” Guilty was absolutely wrecking him, how long had you been thinking this? He should tell you. Tell you now. But... ”Something more?” He questioned you. Yes, he was being racked with guilt and this ‘apology bracelet’ did nothing to help the feeling. But Ao’nung couldn't just ignore the ‘something more’. He couldn't ignore the beating of his heart. He had ignored his feelings enough.
You took a deep breath before confessing. You tell Ao’nung these feelings were always there and that you were worried that you’d always be the ‘childhood friend’. But having him almost die right in front of you, watching his eyes close with the possibility of them never opening again stirred you into action.
Ao’nung was delighted to hear this from you. He’d never allow himself the dream that you’d actually reciprocate the feelings he kept hidden. It would hurt too much if he got his hopes up for nothing. But, like all good things, he knew this moment would not last. So he savored it, the emotions he felt, the way you looked at him, committing everything to memory.
Then he confessed.
For the kind and gentle soul you were, seeing you angry was like seeing a completely different person. Rage consumed you, and you lashed out at everyone. One of the elders described it as being stuck in the storm’s path with no clear way out. Another said it’s because you don’t get angry often so it just builds and then erupts like a fiery volcano. Doing more harm to yourself over anyone else.
You pulled your hands out of his quickly as if they were a piece of fresh coal, burning away at your skin. The look you gave made his body ache with sorrow, nothing but anger and disappointment could be seen in your eyes.
“So, let me get this right,  you were jealous of my ‘closeness’ with Lo’ak, and gave me a heart attack…gave everyone a heart attack-!” You shout at him in rage. And then proceed to throw up more screams of bitterness and anger. Not just at him, but everything. Ao’nung clutched the bracelet you had given him, to hold on to a sweet memory. It was no use trying to talk to you.  Too blinded by your emotions to listen. No less believe the boy.
“I…I can’t believe you’d do something so reckless, so selfish, so stupid! Everyone was worried for you. You could’ve died, Ao’nung!” You roared with your fists clenched at your sides. That’s when Ao’nung saw the tears that were rolling down your face. Not bothering to brush them away.
That was when Tsireya came running in, probably hearing your shouts and sobs. She looks between you two in puzzlement before looking at him in vexation. “What’s going on here?” She demanded of Ao’nung with a facial expression that looked eerily similar to their Mothers.
She turns to look at you but you simply shake your head at her with a weary smile before leaving. She turns to look at her brother with her signature ‘you are fucked’ stare. “What did you do?” She demanded again but spoke a lot more harshly.
Ao’nung could only sigh and tell her the whole story. She gave him a disappointed look, her eyes blown wide and mouth agape. Normally he’d give her shit for looking at him like that, but he deserved every last bit of disappointment that was about to be thrown his way. And, every bit of the verbal lashing his mother will soon give him when word gets out.
After a moment of silence, she talks. “You need to apologize to Ao’nung. I know that is a given but seriously. They were a mess and inconsolable for days after you passed out, and would hardly leave your side.” She looks away from him for a minute but then talks. “Lo’ak, did like them and the stunts he played were for their attention, but they always liked you.” With that, she leaves him to think about the revelation. He couldn’t mistake the voice crack she had halfway through though.
For days, Ao’nung sat there, thinking of what he should say and how he should say it. He’d twist the shells on the bracelet you gave him before everything went to shit.
“What troubles you, my son?” His father asked him one day while Ao’nung lay in his bed, his depressive state yet to pass. He just wanted to curl up and hide away, even if he did have a game plan to apologize, he couldn’t either way. “Well.” Tonowarai walks over to his cot and sits on the edge, a patient smile on his face.
Ao’nung let out a low exhale and proceeded to tell him everything that happened. He was honestly surprised that Tsireya hadn’t ratted him out yet but she hadn't been there for a few days.
His father narrowed his eyes at him. “So you endangered yourself…because you were jealous?” He asked the question slowly and stared at him puzzled. “First, you are definitely grounded for that stupid stunt because I and your mother did not raise a skxawng. That behavior is not of someone who will one day lead the clan.” But his father’s eyes grew softer as did his tone. “Secondly, be honest with them. It’s been a few days so maybe they might’ve calmed down but know this. They are not obligated to accept your apology or to be as close as you once were.”
Every time Ao’nung would come to you, he was ignored. He would try to say hello just for you to mumble an excuse and scurry away or if it even looked like he’s walking in your general direction you would take off. He doesn’t take this to heart, remembering his father’s wise words. It was rather annoying but he knew he deserved it. For the next three days Ao’nung has been collecting seashells from the sand and asked Rotxo to collect shells from the ocean. Not that Ao’nung was scared or anything because that would be embarrassing. It’s just…easier to have Rotxo do it while Tsireya teaches him how to weave a necklace for you, that he was planning to be similar to the matching bracelets you had.
So, maybe he was a bit scared of the water, liking going too deep with no one around. But, slowly, with the help of his mother, he was getting more comfortable.
Today was the day. It was nearing eclipse when Ao’nung found you with his gift in hand and he slowly approached you. He didn’t get that close when you held a hand up, stopping him. In a monotone and cold voice, you spat at him “What?”
“I am so sorry-” He started to say.
“No!” You butt in. “I do not want to hear this from you, I can’t hear this from you Ao’nung. I can’t.” Despite your attempts at keeping your voice leveled, it still broke. To hear this emotion in their voice just shattered his heart. To think that your hurt was because of him.
Ao’nung held on to your shoulders as you tried their best to get out of his grip and just away from him in general. He forced your eyes to meet, and for the first time in weeks, he saw those gentle blue hues he missed so much. Saw the bright white freckles dotting your teal skin, and saw the wave-like marks on your body. He saw the anger and pain he had caused you, the tears that never ended, the glare you sent at him. He saw them all.
He caressed your face like it was the most precious pearl in the ocean  and spoke, “I am truly sorry for the pain and despair I caused you. The reasoning will not make it any better but please let me explain. You can go our entire lives hating and wanting nothing to do with me, but please let me explain.”
You slowly nod your head and put some distance between the two, now his grip had loosened. “Go on Ao’nung.”
Ao’nung began, “I’ve always…liked you, but I thought that you would never like me the same and so as to not ruin our friendship I said nothing and pretended that I didn’t like you. But then those fore-.” He paused, “The Omatiycans came. Lo’ak came, and he got too comfortable with you. It made me jealous to see the closeness and the attention you gave him. So instead of being honest with you, I decided to pretend to drown. But I did not do this as a sick joke, I did it because I care for you a lot and I just didn’t know how to say it.”
Ao’nung sucked in a breath, before he whispered to you, “ I…I did it because I see you.”
Silence engulfed you two as Pandora became alive in the night. The bright plants bloomed around the two of you, definitely setting a more romantic vibe. Ao’nung watched as you took a deep breath and considered some things. He did not know what was going on in your head but he surely hoped that you took his words into consideration before taking action. He even pleaded with Eywa.
“You said that you..see me?” You question him, your eyes widen as his words finally click.
He blinked, nervously looking to the side as his teal skin showed some resemblance of a blush. “Yes..I meant every word that I said. What I did was childish, and for that I am sorry.”
“It’s okay, Ao’nung I forgive you. But you will be making it up to me.” You said with a serious tone.
Ao’nung lets out a small chuckle, just happy that he was forgiven. He leaned in, his breath fanning your cheek, before giving it an almost experimental kiss. “Well,” He brings out the matching necklace he spent days crafting, a cheeky grin growing on his face as he pulled back. “This is for you.”
You gasp at the sight of it and take it gingerly into your hands. Your eyes wide with and your hold gentle, almost as if it could break at any given moment.. Ao’nung watches as you inspect the necklace, your love for crafting making this stare a lot more nerve wracking for him. Truth be told, he was nervous as hell, but if it wasn’t up to your standards then he’d remake it until you're satisfied.
“Wait, Ao’nung..this matches the bracelets I made.” You marveled at him with shining eyes and a bright smile on your face. It was just nice to see you smile at him like you used to.
“Yes, which means that we have a matching set.” He shows his wrist, shaking it and looking at the bracelet you had made him.
You wrap your arms around his neck and hug him, staying still and relishing the moment as he wraps his arms around your waist. After a few seconds of silence you whisper into his ear,
“I see you too Ao’nung.”

Boys Don’t Cry
Tumblr media
Dad!Ao’nung x Sully!reader
IN WHICH Ao’nung cries for the first time in his life after the death of your son, but you’re here to help him through it.
Warnings: ANGST, death, grief of a son, our bby crying :(.
READ Fire Drill first to understand, this is Ao’nung’s side of the story.
Tumblr media
Ao’nung had never cried in his entire life, other than the moment where he had been stripped from his mother’s womb and into the lands of Pandora. He had always been a quiet baby, always the type to cause trouble that would make him laugh rather than wail.
Growing up in a strict household had only strengthened Ao’nung’s lack of emotional display  as he grew up, always feeling like the future Olo’eyktan should not shed any tears. He remembers the times where he would make fun of his more sensible friends for crying over the smallest things, making them feel small for being able to express their feelings. He thought that crying was something boys were not supposed to do, that they were supposed to appear strong for their families when bad things happened.
Sure he had been reprimanded by Ronal and Tonowari countless of times for his behaviour and recklessness, and he would often come back from hunts with a couple of gashes and wounds littering his skin, but never a single tear to graze his cheeks. He would grit his teeth until pressing down on them would hurt, trying to swallow back his pain so he didn’t cry.
His sister, Tsireya was very fragile of nature as she inherited their mother’s more hidden side. She was sensible to things around her, and she was never scared to show how she felt. Sometimes during their youth, Ao’nung would tease her and call her a crybaby whenever she’d cry about the smallest things, causing her to sob even harder and getting reprimanded by his father.
Soon you would get to know that the boy was emotionally constipated. It had taken it a while for you both to confess, yet alone for you to comprehend that he had feelings for you. Those same feelings that you had accidently revealed to him one night, and he was glad, because that had allowed him to act out on his own. Soon, your love had developed into more than just being mates and sharing a bond through tsaheylu. You had both created a baby through that said love, and Ao’nung was elated at the news.
He hadn’t cried when your son was born, unlike you that was spent and just happy that he was finally here. In some way, he felt prideful of not being soft-hearted like his family. He felt strong because to Ao’nung, boys don’t cry.
-
Ao’nung had never cried in his entire life, not when his son was born, not when he laid wailing excruciatingly in your tired arms. Crying does not always represent happiness or sadness, he didn’t need to cry to show that he felt joyful of the welcoming of your new baby. The warm smile on his face was enough to tell you that he was more than happy that his son was finally here, and he had vowed to himself on that day that he would be strong for the both of you.
Though when the humans and recoms came to claim your father in their death grip, he didn’t know what would happen. Ao’nung watched as you poured your heart out for the unfortunate death of the oldest Sully son, your brother Neteyam. His death gripped your heart like it had never been held before, crushing it in its cruel hold. His lips turned into a frown as he held you in his arms, your shoulders shaking as you trembled from the aftermath of your sobs.
The humans were cruel people, claiming what is not theirs and destroying whoever and whatever is in their way. He had sworn to himself on that day that he would kill every single one of them for making you suffer in such a way and that your tears would not be in vain. But as he watched as his forever home vanished in the midst of the flames, his heart could only pick up the place.
You were frozen beside him as you watched the marui that you both shared being engulfed by the fire. Ao’nung remembers not thinking straight as he gripped your arm in a tight grip as he dragged your frozen state into your home. He remembers the blood curdling screams that you let out as you cradled your deceased son, unpitied by the Great-Mother.
He couldn’t remember exactly when his eyes had started tearing up, the burning feeling of arriving tears rising in his throat. The sight of your mutilated son was more than what his heart could take, and soon the fresh tears began pouring down his cheeks freely. There wasn't much that he could let out, no more than 3 tears rolled down his grimy cheeks, but they were 3 too much.
His tattoos burnt his skin as he felt undeserving of them. The ones marking his arms up to his chin were the ones that he had acquired after passing his rights of passage, deeming him a strong and valuable adult, but how could a strong man fail to protect his own family? How could he have let his own son’s life slip out of his fingers when he knew that he could’ve protected him.
The guilt was overbearing, shifting him out of reality as he thought of the little amount of time that he had been able to spend with his son. It ate him up from in to out, leaving him feeling like an empty shell void of any emotions. The feeling of his mother’s warm palm over his arm was enough to snap him out of his derivative dreaming, the harsh sounds of your wailing reaching his tense ears. He was so distraught, pupils blown and without knowing where to look anymore.
He didn’t want to look at your poor son as he laid unmoving in your arms, but the guilt of not looking would soon catch up to him if he didn’t. Ronal’s hands cupped her son’s cheeks, ripping him out of his trance once more. He could make out a few distinct words that his mother was talking to him, but the ringing in his head was far too overwhelming for him to even concentrate. His lips wobbled and his ears were flat against his skull.
Ronal’s own distraught state was far too much for him to comprehend, so he gently peeled her hands off of him.
She had never fully accepted you like her own daughter, not even when you had publicly announced that you were mated to her son. But whether she liked it or not, you were family now just like your son was to her, and family doesn’t like seeing family suffer. She couldn’t even imagine the pain that you and  Ao’nung currently felt, as she placed a hand on her swelling stomach.
Later that night, things were dead silent in his family’s marui. He had come for a simple thing, and it was to fetch fish for you to eat tonight, because he needed to take care of you no matter how he felt. It didn’t matter if he felt emotionally destroyed, he had made it his duty to take care of you while you grieved.
Tsireya’s frown seemed permanent ever since the events had happened, not knowing how to comfort her usually stoic brother. She had never seen him like this, so distant and quiet because he was unable to express his own feelings, and it hurt her more than anything to see her only brother suffer in silence.
Hell, the silence of their marui was suffocating on its own. Tonowari couldn’t even approach his grieving son, because damn was he also emotionally constipated. He cursed himself for his inability of expressing himself freely, that if he wasn’t then maybe his son would’ve been confiding the thoughts that were bothering him so much to them. He knew that it weighed him down, so much that he could not even stand the pressure even if he sat on his knees.
Ronal’s guilt as she rethought of 2 years ago when she had agreed with Tonowari to let you seek Uturu
in their village. Maybe if she had been stronger and had strictly denied her mate, Ao’nung would be happy off with someone else right now. There would’ve never been a war upon the lands of Awa’atlu and her son would be smiling amongst his own little family. Though she knew it was wrong for her to think of this at such a time, because she knew that the love that Ao’nung held for you and your son is great, and he wouldn’t exchange the both of you for anything in this world.
For, she had a close connection to her children unlike anyone else on this planet did. A mother does tsaheylu right after birth with their babies, and the emotional bond that they share is like no other. She knows when her children are hurting, she can sense it, she can see it. Ronal can’t help herself but to treat Ao’nung as though he was the fragile kid that he had never been, but nothing seemed to break through that shell of his. Maybe, she believed that it was better off to let him sort out his feelings with you, that he would feel better to confine in you for now, that he would eventually open himself to them.
The violent images of his son’s scorched body and the vile smell of demise was still fresh in his mind, the events replaying like a broken video.
So they watch as Ao’nung walks away, a plate full of fish held tightly in his unrelenting grip. Ronal knew that there was always a light in darkness, he just needed to look through the right path, and she was sure that soon enough you both would.
-
When you awoke to the cold feeling of emptiness beside you, there was a nagging feeling that tugged at your chest. Despite that the pain of losing your son was still swirling raw in your chest, you knew that Ao’nung getting up before you meant that something was wrong. It wasn’t that you usually woke up late, no, further than that even. It was that Ao’nung usually waited for you to get up before starting his chores. Those were the little things that you had caught onto in your relationship, and it was damn time that they came in use.
You raised a hand to rub the grogginess out of your freshly opened eyes, fingers digging oddly pleasurably into your eyes. Then, when the grogginess had disappeared, you could see your husband’s back turned away from you. Ao’nung was cutting up a few fruits as he dropped the pieces into a large bowl before him, his ears were flattened upon his head and his tail laid flat against the material of your temporary marui. Given that the one where you previously lived on was now in shambles.
Plus the both of you wouldn’t have been able to live in the home in which your son had passed away in, it would always be a dark spot on your hearts.
Painfully, you stood up from your previous spot as you approached your husband. You kneeled down behind him and he visibly flinched when you brought a hand down to rest upon his shoulders. Though you didn’t take it to heart. Slowly by slowly, you began creeping your hands around his torso as though not to scare him and you embraced him warmly from the back. It was silent, but for once the silence was not comfortable. It was stuffy and suffocating, full of unsaid words that were waiting for clarity.
“I’m so sorry yawne, I never intended for things to be like this.” you excused yourself like any of this was your fault. Like the recoms following your father and unabling you from having a good life was any of your fault. Ao’nung was silent, more than he had been yesterday and your chest quivered as you started crying again. You were tired of it, tired of feeling like all you could do was cry for this nasty feeling of emptiness to leave your body.
You watched from the corners of your eyes as his lips wobbled at your words, despite the tears blurring your vision. Ao’nung turned his head away from you as he hid his vulnerability, and your heart ached at the sight of your husband. You didn’t want him to feel like he had to hide how he felt around you, or feel like he had to be embarrassed or scared that you would somewhat judge him if he came true to how he really felt.
“Hey,” you gently called out for him, unravelling your hands from his torso as you moved to sit in front of him. The dish of fruits was long forgotten as you moved it to the side to take its place. Ao’nung’s lips were sealed in a tight line and you could now see the tears that gathered in his eyes, unable to escape his waterline. You felt your heart drop down to your feet as it was only the second time that you had seen your mate cry, but now you were in a mental state where you could help him.
You took his face into your hands like his mother had done the past night, and it felt all too comforting to him. His cheeks burnt with discomfort but you were not about to let him cry his sorrows alone, you were his wife after all. Your thumbs ran soothing circles upon his cheeks as you waited for him to turn his head to you, leaving him the time to feel comfortable enough so that you wouldn’t have to force him upon it.
“It’s okay to feel gloomy after what's happened, you don’t have to hide yourself from me,” you whispered out the last part, your throat burning as you felt more tears rising up in your eyes. You blinked them away as they fell graceful down your darker skin. “I’m not going to judge you, I'm not going to tell anyone.” you pleaded through tears and soon enough he turned his face towards you.
You watched as he completely crumbled, his lips dropping impossibly further down into a bigger frown before he pushed himself further into your embrace, his arms wrapping around your waist as he hugged you. Ao’nung felt embarrassed when you didn’t berate him for crying, feeling ashamed that he even felt the need to hold back whitin your presence.
His face was buried in your neck as he sobbed his sorrows away, your arms intertwining behind his neck as you swayed him back and forth. He knew that you were loyal and that he trusted you with his entire life, he knew that you would keep your promise of zipping it. He felt so much relief as he sobbed into your arms, your body warm and close to him.
For, boys do cry, and so do men. Men who have lost their families, their homes, the ones that they loved. Men who are mature enough to understand that crying does not render you as weak, and soon Ao’nung would learn to open his heart to that thought. He felt safe sharing his burdens and sorrows to you, and you always listened to him with open ears just like he did with you.
-
hey y’all concerning the requests, i’ll be posting them within 3 day intervals (if i’m done with them fast enough to do so).

Undiscovered Future - Pt. 8
Hi everyone! A new post, this one is heavily focused on developing the relationship between Savanna and Aonung. I'm trying to ease them into it, so might be a bit until there is any actual relationship. Also might be some angst in future chapters, so prepare!
_____________________________________________________________
Savanna found herself in another lesson with Aonung. After taking a swim through the reef, it had become quite apparent that the Sully’s weren’t able to hold their breath for extended periods of time. Savanna sat in a circle with her siblings, Tsireya, Aonung and their friend Roxto.
Tsireya had split off with Tuk and Loak, Aonung with Neteyam and Roxto with Savanna and Kiri. Placing his palms on Savanna’s stomach and above her heart, he smiled,”You are quite good! You need to inhale slightly deeper, but the two of you are getting there.”
Kiri smiled bashfully at the compliment, Savanna noticed a slight blush creeping up her sister's neck, it was something she’d have to prod at later. Roxto went over to assist Kiri and Savanna tuned out their conversation, closing her eyes. The sounds of the waves hitting the rocks, birds chirping, and the feeling of the sun. She basked in everything, it has been some time since she could fully relax. As a warrior her duties had been quite demanding, and during her time at the RDA the daily missions and reports had taken a toll on her. Feeling the loss of warmth from the sun, she opened her eyes. Looking up she noticed Aonung, he had a small smirk on his face. Noticing Neteyam had moved to distract Tuk, so Tsireya could properly teach Loak. Turning and cupping her hand, Savanna whispered in Aonung’s ear, “I think lover boy has a little crush.” Seeing Aonung’s confused expression, Savanna nodded over to Loak and Tsireya.
“Many people like my sister.” Watching over as the two conversed he turned back to Savanna, “I wouldn’t say he likes her though.”
“Wanna bet?”
“Sure, but if I win you have to clean all my weapons.”
“Ok then, but if I win you have to ride on my ikiran with me.” Watching as his face morphed to worry, Savanna laughed, “Are you afraid, pretty boy?”
Scowling he laughed, “Definitely now sweetheart! You’re on!”
“How do we test it?” Looking over at Loak and Tsireya, Savanna knew they would need something solid to decide the bet.
Leaning to whisper to Savanna, Aonung spoke, “Don’t worry I got this.” Looking over to his sister Aonung called out, “Tsireya, you need to make sure the breathing is right! Do it properly!”
Savanna watched as a slight blush went across Tsireya’s face, “I know, we were getting there!” Turning back to Loak, Tsireya placed a hand on Loak’s stomach and heart, “Loak now breathe deeply.” Watching his chest rise and fall, Aonung and Savanna stared intensely. “Loak, you need to calm your heartbeat, it’s much too fast!”
Looking startled and stammering, Loak coughed, “Yeah! I can, I will, yup!”
Looking over to Aonung, Savanna was beaming. Loak’s reaction was without a doubt a clear indication, even Neteyam had chuckled at his reaction. Aonung threw his head back and groaned. “Don’t be so sad Aonung! You now owe me a ride now though!”
Grimacing, he looked over at Savanna, “You’re not going to kill me on that thing right forest freak?”
Her smile only grew larger, “I would never dream of it! No one is safer to ride with than me.”
Approaching Savanna and Aonung, Neteyam squatted in front of them, “What’s got you in such a good mood Sav?”
“Our dear Aonung here lost a bet!” Smiling as Aonung groaned again she continued, “Now he gets to ride on Daisy!”
Shaking his head, Neteyam laughed, “Oh you’re in for it!”
Aonung’s head shot to look at Neteyam, “What do you mean? She said she’s a safe rider!”
“Yeah only when you’re injured, but when I was fully healed. Sav did not hold back!”
Feigning offence Savanna held her chest, “I am wonderful! Aonung, I will be expecting you to be ready before sunrise tomorrow! I’ll meet you here with Daisy.” Grabbing Neteyam’s hand Savanna jumped up, “Now come on Sully’s, it’s almost time for supper! Thank you all for the lessons today!”
As Aonung watched the Sully’s return to their pod he felt conflicted. She is a forest freak, she has demon blood, but he enjoyed being around her. Roxto appeared at his side smiling, “Does someone have a little crush?”
Mouth agape, staring at his friend Aonung couldn’t speak. Tsireya began talking, “It’s just good you’re making friends with them now!”
Huffing Aonung snapped his mouth shut and stood, “I will never be friends with the freaks! I’m only doing what I was forced to do! Let's get moving.”
As Aonung stomped off towards the village, Roxto shook his head, “He’s too stubborn.”
Smiling softly Tsireya watched her brother huff, “Yeah, but Savanna is good for him. Did you notice how little he snapped at the brothers today? He was joking around with her all day.”
“I hope he just doesn’t mess it up. She is insanely patient with his antics, but he has a tendency to push boundaries.”
“I hope so too. Let’s go back to the village, it’s getting late.”
Early the following morning, before the sun was over the horizon, Savanna crept out of her pod. When she reached a decent distance from the village, she called out to Daisy. As her ikiran landed Savanna beamed, Daisy was the greatest gift she could ever receive. Hoping on Daisy’s back she flew into the air to meet up with Aonung.
Approaching the rock they had trained on the day before, Savanna spotted Aonung waiting, “Morning pretty boy!” Landing on the corner of the rock, Savanna jumped off Daisy and walked to greet Aonung, noticing his frown only made her smile grow, “Not used to getting up so early?”
Aonung only rolled his eyes, “I get up early, but this is just not right. No one in the whole village is awake yet!” Behind them Daisy began chirping, “That thing isn’t going to eat me, right?”
“Daisy is my baby. She only likes sweet things, so your sour taste wouldn’t appeal to her anyway.” Bumping her shoulder into Aonung’s arm, Savanna walked over to pet Daisy. “Come say hi.”
Slowly walking over to Daisy, Aonung was shocked. He had never seen an animal like her before, ikirans were a rare sight among the ocean clans. “This is the same animal as Toruk?”
“Yes, but Toruk is probably the size of six of Daisy. He is the sky’s mightiest warrior.” Smiling Savanna recalled all the grand stories she heard from the elders. “The elders of my clan told the stories of my dad, and how the Omaticaya called upon us for help.”
“You keep saying these strange things about your people. Aren’t your people the Omaticaya?”
“No, I have only recently lived with them. I am from the marshes, I was raised by the Olo'eyktan’s daughter when I was thirteen until recently.” Savanna knew her past might come up at some point, but she wasn’t sure what Aonung would do with the information. He was still a stranger, and had very strong hatred for her family, she didn’t want to make it any worse. “Anyways, you lost a bet. Lets get moving!”
Connecting with Daisy, Savanna had her lower herself so Aonung could easily get on. He had a little trouble, but was finally situated behind her. He couldn’t believe he had ended up in this position. Why did he even come? He could have just ditched, but for some reason he had gotten up and arrived earlier than necessary, and now he was about to fly with a forest freak. “Where do I even hold on?”
Grabbing his hands, she positioned them on her hips, “Hold on tight Aonung. Wouldn’t want you to fall off.”
“Very funny, I will be f-” A yelp came out of his throat as she suddenly took flight, his arms opting to fully wrap around her waist.
Deciding to mess with him a little, she had Daisy do a couple harsh turns, and a summersault. Giggling Savanna turned her head to see Aonung with his eyes clamped firmly shut, and his knuckles white. Steadying out over the ocean, Savanna decided to take pity on him. “Open your eyes. I would never let you fall Aonung.”
Hesitantly his eyes fluttered open and widened. The view was amazing, he had never seen the ocean from so high up. The sun broke across the horizon and the light glimmered in the waters below. His grip lessened slightly around her waist, “Is this why you wanted to come so early?”
“It’s when everything's calm, and the sunrise is my favourite part of the day.” Leaning back into Aonung’s chest, Savanna felt calm. “I wish I could show you the marshes and forest though.”
“Could you describe them to me?”
“Of course. The marshes trees grow in irregular directions, sometimes coiling around each other. The tops resemble the shrubs that surround your village.” Humming Savanna looks at the ocean below, “the ground isn’t very present, some areas are solid, but we live mainly within the trees.”
“Is that why your breathing, and swimming is better than your brothers?”
“The way to travel is by a serpent creature called a serli. They are beautiful creatures, similar to the ilu. Holding my breath was a skill I developed, but not quite to the Metkayina standards.”
Aonung puffed his chest in pride, “No one is quite to our standards.”
Although his comment was lighthearted, Savanna couldn’t help but feel disheartened. She has been trying to win him over, and break free from his view on her. Forest freak, she wasn’t affected personally, but when he made fun of her siblings she couldn’t help but be upset. Tilting her head, Savanna looked into his eyes, “Aonung, my family does try to reach your standards. I try as well, I hope one day you see that.” Facing forward, Savanna leans away from Aonungs chest.
Aonung feels cold now. There is no wind, and Daisy is flying slow and steady. Savanna’s words left a cold feeling in his bones, and the absence of her back to his chest feels like he has been dunked in the ocean. He does not know what to say, her words have caught him off guard. Instead of seeking her warmth again like his mind and body desperately wants, Aonung removes his arms from her waist and places them loosely on her hips.
When they land back at the village, Savanna helps him dismount. “Well Aonung, I hope you enjoyed the view.”
“It was ok.”
The banter the morning had started with has faded. Aonung shifts awkwardly on his toes. Flashing Aonung a smile that doesn’t quite meet her eyes, “I guess I’ll see you around Aonung.” Turning, Savanna walks towards the village.
Aonung stands where Savanna left him for a couple minutes. He replays their conversations, the view from her ikiran, and mostly her touch. He almost convinces himself she hadn’t been leaning into him. He might have been successful if his body didn’t remember the cold after she leaned away. He couldn’t rationalise these feelings, how he longed to be near her, hear her voice, her laugh. Groaning Aonung decided he would join the hunting party to avoid teaching her family any more lessons, he needed to be away from her to clear his mind.

hiii!! i’m new to this whole request thingy :/ but i was wondering if you could make a fic about aonung with a runaway bride basically something about him being in love with a girl who isn’t inlove with him so she runs away to avoid being with him BUTTTT he finds her a couple years later mated to neteyam!! you don’t have to do it it was just a thought thank you!!!>.<
Hi! I really enjoyed writing this! It’s kinda short but I hope it’s up to your expectations my love. 💕
Right for me.
Tumblr media
Pair: Agedup! Aonung x FemNavi Reader/Agedup! Neteyam x FemNavi reader
Summary: He wanted you to be right for him, and maybe in another lifetime you would have been.
Warnings: unrequited love, angst, no comfort.
➳༻❀✿❀༺➳ ༻❀✿❀༺➳ ༻❀✿❀༺ ➳
Aonung watched as you interacted with the children of the clan, always helping out and teaching them. You were sweet, kind, and overall the perfect mate for him. He had been in love with you for as long as he could remember but only now had he finally worked up enough courage to finally make courting gifts for you. He needed this to be perfect, it had to be absolutely perfect for when he finally confessed his feelings for you.
The only issue was you didn’t have feelings for Aonung, not even a little tiny crush. You saw him as a friend and nothing more, however Aonung was convinced you harbored at least a little bit of love for him.
Once you had sent the kids off and you were alone Aonung strode over to you confidently, the arrogance oozed off of him in waves. Each step closer to you he tried to ignore the nervousness, hoping that he looked as confident as he was portraying himself to be. The moment he stood before you he greeted you. Letting the moment sink in before he cleared his throat, his eyes found yours and he couldn’t stop himself from getting lost in your ocean blue eyes. He loved them, no he loved everything about you.
He reached into his pouch and pulled out an armband that matched his, except yours had pearls that were the color of his eyes. He held it up proudly for you to see and take only you didn’t take it. “I wish to court you, will you be my mate?” You gently pushed away his hand with a shake of your head a soft. “I’m sorry.” Was all you could offer him.
Aonung watched as you turned away from him, away from his declaration of love. He felt broken in that moment his pride crushed, but he was determined.
The next morning Aonung woke upper determined to ever to get youu to fall for him, he searched around for you. He looked for you everywhere, it was as if you had disappeared from the village. Your was desolate, not anything belonging to you in sight. Where could you have gone? Why did you run away? You were meant to be his he was sure of it. But you’re gone.
It had been three years, three years since you had up and disappeared from the village. Aonung never gave up hope that you’d return for him ready to be his mate so he could care for you and the clan the way he was always meant to. Imagine his devastation when you returned with the sully family, fully mated with a round belly.
You had moved on, mated to another. Someone who wasn’t you and aonung hated it. He couldn’t even look at you the same, all he saw was someone who betrayed him and threw his love away.
Aonung was so sure that you were meant for him, that you’d be his mate round with his baby. Aonung was so sure that you were right for him, but maybe he wasn’t right for you.

enjoy the silence II | ao’nung.
ao’nung x fem!sully!reader
previous part | part two | next part
Tumblr media
synopsis: Ao’nung’s words had hurt you, but his contradictory actions hurt you more. You realize your mistake in your idea that you’d be a good match, but it may have already cost you your life.
genre: angst.
contains: more pining from reader, mixed signals, ilu riding. mentions of near death experience, suffocation, overwhelming feelings. ao’nung literally being so confusing. requited love after all?
a/n: welcome to the second installment of enjoy the silence! the first part ended up being posted two days earlier than expected (the last time i ever schedule a post) and still needed scenes added but, i’m so happy you all loved it so much anyway! i tagged everyone who asked to be tagged. thank you guys so much for the support!
The morning after Ao’nung had said those things to you by the shore came quickly. After he had stalked off, you went back to your mauri, purposely taking the long way home to be with your thoughts for a while. Did you read his signs wrong? Was he even giving any signs to begin with? Or had you been clouded with the illusion of being a perfect pair that you hadn’t even considered how Ao’nung felt?
Your siblings could feel your slight sadness when you arrived back, but no one had questioned it much, save for a few, “Feelin’ alright?”s from your father. Moving to Awa’atlu had affected everyone, they had felt the overwhelming ache of homesickness every once in a while, they understood you were feeling down. If only they knew, your once source of happiness was now your source of distress.
Despite that, you weren’t angry with Ao’nung. Not at all. You understood where he was coming from completely. As the future Olo’eyktan, he needs to protect his people. That means protecting them from humans, and your family had brought that threat. If anything, it’s natural for him to be hostile towards you. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. But you were resilient.
You just had to prove to him you were more than what was running in your veins.
Today, like the past few days, was filled with training. Ao’nung was paired up with you, again. You felt uneasy at first, not wanting to make him more uncomfortable with you. He gave Tsireya a look, almost begging to switch partners. She only rolled her eyes and smiled when you reached them.
He must’ve told her how he felt about you, or maybe she had heard his harsh words to you last night. Either way, you’re sure she smacked him upside the head for upsetting you. Tsireya took a genuine liking to you, and she may or may not have been doubling her efforts in winning over the Sully family due to her liking of Lo'ak.
Once all together in the shallow water, Ao’nung began to call to the Ilu. Almost immediately, they swam up and circled him. It was mesmerizing, watching him call them so effortlessly, how they swam up to him so fondly.
“These are Ilu. If you want to live here, you have to ride,” he explained. You were excited, you had little trouble claiming your Ikran, surely this is no different.
Ao’nung faced you, pointing, “the demon girl will go first.” Your eyes widened, suddenly intimidated. But, you had to show him you weren’t just some forest girl with five fingers.
You swam up to an Ilu, petting it. It clicked at you, nudging you affectionately. This creature was so gentle, so sweet to you. Your Ikran was nothing but the opposite when you claimed it; squawking loudly, attempting to throw you over the edge of the cliff. You gained some confidence from its gentle demeanor, and climbed on top. Tsireya and Ao’nung swam up beside to keep the Ilu still and allow you to make a bond.
“Make the bond, and hold here,” Tsireya gestured to the handle. You pulled your queue from behind you, bare, pink nerves ready to make a connection. You took a deep breath and made the bond with your Ilu. Suddenly, you felt its being as whole, as a part of you. You felt its breath, its fins, how strong it is, how eager it was to swim with a new driver.
“Breathe from here, remember. Hold your breath when you dive, the Ilu is fast. But it will know when to go back up for air. It feels you, you feel it,” Ao’nung placed his hand on your upper stomach like he had done when training your breathing. You gasped quietly, not expecting such a gentle, forward gesture from him. Especially not after last night’s exchange.
Your golden eyes made contact with his, your brows furrowed in confusion. Hadn’t he just reprimanded you for just merely existing? Now he was touching you so delicately, like you’d break from too much pressure. Had last night really just been a bit? Just a teasing joke? Maybe he didn’t hate you after all?
His mixed signals made you feel fuzzy, your brain suddenly so confused. The Ilu felt it, too, and began to thrash around from the uncertainty you felt at Ao’nung’s touch. He removed his hand from you, much to your disappointment, to calm the Ilu back down to stillness.
You shook the thoughts about him out of your head, you had to focus. “I’m ready, I can do this.”
“Start slow, don’t hurt yourself,” Ao’nung’s tone was firm, but worried. Perhaps he did care for you.
You took another deep breath, and went off into the water.
You started slow, like Ao’nung instructed, getting comfortable with being pulled through the water by the Ilu. Gradually you sped up, gliding through the reef with ease.
The rush of adrenaline that flowed through you only made you more and more confident. The beautiful reef had you hypnotized, you felt so much while being wished around the glowy underwater plants and animals. The swirl of colors dizzied you in only the best way, leaving you in awe.
You reached a hand out to brush against the foliage as you flew past it. It was so soft to the touch. It only reminded you of Ao'nung's.
What he said greatly hurt you, joke or not. The contrast of his words then and now was so confounding to you. And with the thought of him back in your mind, you became tense, now losing your focus. You lost your balance on the Ilu along with your secure grip.
This thrashed you around some, but you could regain your composure. Unfortunately, it was proving difficult.
You underestimated the force of the water. Your grip on the Ilu faltered more with the ever growing speed. You couldn’t keep up, the pressure was too much. The rush of the water was now pulling you back, straining your limbs. Dreadful fear filled you when you realized, inevitably you’d be knocked off and sent into waters you weren’t familiar with at all, with animals and creatures you’d never interacted with.
You had underestimated the difficulty of riding an Ilu, just as you had underestimated Ao’nung’s impact on you. It was all too similar.
At first, you’d been confident and blinded by excitement. Excitement of meeting your seemingly perfect match. Excitement of trying something new. You weren’t careful, not assessing the situation completely before you dived in headfirst.
You didn’t take Ao’nung himself into account, how powerful his actions, his feelings are just as the water’s force is on your body now. Oh, how your impulsivity ricocheted back to you, but ten times stronger. Whiplash from Ao’nung’s mixed signals and the rush of the current you’re trying to push through.
You had to let go, you realized.
You had to let go of the Ilu before you hurt yourself. You had to let go of your delusional idea of yours and Ao’nung’s relationship before it drastically hurts you. Or him. You couldn't bear the thought of hurting him, in any way.
He didn’t feel the same, he never would. Spiraling down this idea would only complicate things more. You needed to let go.
With that, you took your grip off the Ilu, ripped from the back of the creature and sent off into the water.
Your breath had begun to ran out and you were so far down, clouded with thoughts of needing air and needing Ao'nung. Neither would come to you soon enough.
Unbeknownst to you, a pair of azure eyes caught sight of your descending figure before it was too late. He couldn't bear the thought of you being hurt. The thought alone was what was driving him to swim to you faster.
Ao'nung needed you, too.

His daughter (sully family x reader)
It was rare for Navi’s to have twins. So with Neytiri’s pregnancy with Lo’ak and Y/n it was safe until it wasn’t, she had almost lost Y/n in her womb. It would’ve left Lo’ak by himself, the rest of Neytiri’s pregnancy was the worst. She knew her baby girl was going to be born weak, so when they pulled her out of Neytiri’s womb it was like they were taking the life right out of her. Neytiri immediately went to grab her, longing for her daughter’s heart beat. Compared to Lo’aks body Y/n was small and fragile..from then on the connection with their daughter was strong, they needed to be in order to keep her alive.
So from then on Y/n was Jake’s baby girl, his precious daughter. It should be noted that she was Lo’aks twin and was raised along side him and Kiri.
Of course as any child would, Lo’ak and Kiri had selective hearing when it came to their father and his many rules growing up. However, Y/n listened. She was the only one out of all three who truly cared about her fathers opinion. In the eyes of the clan Y/n was Jake’s golden heart.
*
“Mhm and Ooo! What is this papa?”
The child had wobbled to her mothers chain of flower, she had planned to surprise the girls with.
“ahhh, that my little one is not for you!”
“…are you sure papa? It looks nice on me.”
Y/n twirled around with the flower crown, smiling with glee and grace.
“It does!! But your mother would kill me if she found out I let you-“
Neytiri had walked through the home before he could even finish his sentence
“Ma’Jake?! You were supposed to hide it!”
“She got a hold of it!”
“It looks amazing mama-”
While spinning however, Y/n fell to the floor and both parents looked at her in disbelief. They froze for a moment waiting for the cry’s to begin..but they never did. Y/n just laughed at herself and laughed at her parents for worrying more than she had. Jake’s smile couldn’t hide, he knew that Y/n was strong and he loved that about her.
*
The only issue with Y/n was that she wore her heart on her sleeve. She loved to love everything in site, and she often gave people the benefit of the doubt. Jake saw that, and he trained her very well. He had her perfected and established to be a role model for the clan. Despite all his efforts, y/n didn’t find it in her heart to view the world as he did. So, he kept a watch fall eye on her to keep her safe, and Y/n was never allowed anywhere without someone around.
*
“I’m going around the village! By-“
“Nope! Not without your sister!”
Y/n had tried her hardest to remain patient with her father, settling on not saying anything and instead holding her frustration in. All she desperately wanted was time to herself; she was exhausted from spending time with everyone.
*
In many ways Y/n knew how to capture anyone’s eye. She was the most vibrant out of all siblings. All siblings remained close, but they had never gotten to the point where they would speak about..the cracks within their house..
*
Jake had been furious that he found both of his sons wondering around the forest, with no care in the world.
“Lo’ak are you stupid?! You were given orders! Stay away from those areas of the forest!..and you! Neteyam how many times do I have to tell you to keep an eye on your siblings!”
Both boys would blink their tears away..
*
It wasn’t just them..
*
Y/n had been eating her dinner alongside her family when an elder adult approached her. They had instructed her to fix something, in an aggressive tone; almost as though they were demanding it be done now. For once, Y/n retaliated gently, slightly annoyed that she was constantly interrupted when she was trying to connect and eat like the rest of the clan.
“Im sorry, can it wait till im done eating? then I’ll be happy to do it! thank you.”
The elder had gotten annoyed because it was the first time, Y/n declined aiding. The women had walked away in a rush, upset at the girl.
The siblings quickly exchanged confused faces about the situation before leaping back into their conversation but Jake couldn’t shake off the emotions he was feeling about Y/n denying the women.
“..that was rude why did you treat her like that?”
Y/n looked at her father with a questionable look..
“She was rude first.”
“So? She is an elder..”
“I said I would get it done later sir, im eating like the rest of you. She can wait.”
“Y/n that is not the behavior you should be having towards the clan.”
The pair had went back and forth in hushed voice as the rest of the family watched.
“..why is it that she can toss orders at me and you can be completely fine with it?”
“Y/n you can’t be talking back to me-“
“Can our daughter not eat in peace Jake? Please can the both of you be quiet.”
The pair turned to Neytiri and all Y/n could do was pass a gentle smile at her mother, glad she had stepped in. It was very rare that Neytiri ever did. Both Y/n and Jake were so used to getting what they wanted, that the pair would often clash heads…
*
The arguments didn’t start until Y/n got older. She had gotten so eager to finally go out by herself and be more independent. That’s just the person Y/n was, she was willing to take risks and adventure. Funny enough Lo’ak was the same, yet he got away with majority of the things he did because it was expected of him. Y/n always had to come back home looking the same as she did before she left. Not a hair or seam in her outfit out of place, if Jake knew she did anything he wouldn’t approve of he’d be furious.
To Y/n , that was the most frustrating thing of all. Everyone of her siblings would be able to go out, except her. She had hated it, she always felt watched. When the people came up to her she felt as though she couldn’t truly connect, she was absolutely terrified of the things they’d tell her father if she did.
For her father’s approval, Y/n conquered more than you can imagine. She had more talent in her body at her young age than any male soldier.
You can only imagine how eager Jake was to leave the forest. His sacred children were held at gunpoint, what more of a signal could there be as a warning to go?
So the family left their home; tears fell from everyone’s eyes as they were now torn away from their friends and families. Y/n eventually grew with excitement and encouraged the rest of her siblings to feel the same, she knew something good was coming. Eywa was going to treat them to a reset button.
When they arrived on the island Y/n stood tall and confident. The clan looked at them with the most disgusted faces, confused as to why they were there and what they’d be asking for..
Time had passed and when Ronal got to Y/n, she didn’t hesitate to poke at her body. She had no shame in Critiquing it, in-front of her people…
“This child! She won’t last-“
Neytiri hissed, frustrated at Ronal for even implying that. Jake had told her to calm down, yet again putting his foot down.
“Do you think this is what we want here? Your children’s bodies won’t survive in our ocean, their demon blood runs thick..”
Ronal continued by picking at Kiri and Lo’ak next.. degraded was an understatement of how Y/n felt. She looked at the crowd furiously, until her eyes settled on a boy who had just came onto shore. He had teased her siblings here and there before meeting her eyes.
Ao’nung could feel the madness within her eyes, how fragile and frightened this experience was for her. Those eyes told everything. He had made the abrupt choice to put the teasing to an end, deciding it wasn’t worth it. Nothing could perfectly describe the way Ao’nung viewed Y/n , she was breathtaking to him. Different than the rest of the Navi’s but comforting.
When he was walking them to their Mauri he had gotten quiet, glancing at her the entire walk. She looks so comfortable in her skin, confident even! But when you took one look at her eyes it was like they captivated you and told you her life’s story. He was so interested in her background..
Y/n had remained quiet the rest of the night, she was excited before but now…the anxiety and sadness settled in. She missed the forest, she missed home. Y/n missed it so much that she regretted being at least a little excited, she threw herself to go back to grieving. All her siblings seemed eager to learn, but she knew that if she didn’t get any of it right or if her father didn’t think she was trying hard enough he’d made her relearn to all over and over again.
So there she was, picking at her food…fighting the tears. In that moment she realized she pushed those excited emotions on herself, at home she had a role to withold and the people were always so eager to speak to her. Maybe she took it for granted sometimes but, she would always take the time to say hello and ask how everyone’s day was.
“Y/n? Y/n? Y/n!”
She had been pulled out of her transit once again.
“Yes?”
“I know it’s hard. But we can’t sit at the table with upset faces. When you’re out there? You smile. When they don’t smile back? You smile. Even when They’re not here you must smile. they cannot know you have a distasteful thought while being here.”
She was mad. Mad that he was still holding his guard up. Upset that he had managed to order her around even when he wasn’t trying to. Frustrated that he couldn’t see that they should be allowed to grieve the loss of their home. Neither of them realized how exhausted and how easily irritated both of them could get after the amount of traveling they did.
“No ones here except family-“
“So? Your siblings feel your emotions! You’re making everyone upset.”
“How is that my fault? I’ve been trying-“
“Well try harder! Cause that face isn’t showing it.”
Those furious tears fell from her eyes as she stared at her father. He wanted to control everywhere she went, and now he wanted to control her emotions.
“..Well you can’t go around acting like that either..”
“Don’t cry now Y/n.”
“Yup, that’s me being dramatic. Once again, father knows everything!”
“I know everything! Because I do everything.”
Y/n got up from her spot and walked away from her meal, exhausted from her father. She was beginning to get the strength to just forget pleasing him. Y/n no longer wanted to be her father’s golden child, it had gotten so bad he’d even describe her as a burnt out star..
Even when it was visible Y/n no longer wanted to argue, Jake kept pushing and he followed her as she attempted to walk away.
“..cause you don’t let me do anything! I could help more if you just let me go!”
Neytiri gasped, fear reaping right out of her. What she feared was true, Y/n did notice how tight Jake held onto her, and she felt suffocated. The true truth was right between her words.
“Please the both of you are just tired, finish eating.”
“No Neytiri. I’m tired of this behavior. Y/n! With the way you’re acting, you are doing the opposite of help!”
Neteyam grew accustomed to taking the siblings out the room when anyone was arguing with father, he knew because it’s what he would’ve wanted. The most harshest punishments come from their father.
“I’m doing the best I can! What else do you want from me?!”
“I want you to be better! And to maybe spend some time thinking about how you’re effecting this family! I can’t keep arguing with you! This year has been a wreak! And it started with you, constantly acting out. You don’t get to be sad when you became reckless with the clan when they needed you.!”
Y/n started at her father for a brief moment, she gave her heart a moment to break. The clan meant everything to Y/n and yes, sometimes recently she had denied their demands to stay late and aid within their homes simply because everyone has their moment when they were tired of everything. The face of betrayal came across her face once again..
“…you may tell me how to shoot a gun, or train or who I get to hang out with, but you don’t tell me how to grieve my home and clan! I’m done with this conversation.”
“Oh!! Now I get it, this is about your training, that you fell down from!”
“Oh my goodness! This has nothing to do with my capabilities! But since we’re on the subject just because I mess up with small details, doesn’t mean that I won’t succeed in life! You do not get to tell me that!”
“I get to tell you all of it! Because I made you! Remember that Y/n!”
“Yea dad…you made me..okay..that’s fine..”
Neytiri wanted to cry at seeing her daughter’s shoulder weaken, her posture fall with her tears, and her hair detach from her scalp once again since she had run her hand through it. The volume in her voice got low and cracked, her daughter had accepted defeat in Jakes argument.
The siblings walked back in and watched Y/n walk into a dark corner of the Maui, turning her back to her family..
They sat there and didn’t bat a word at Jake, simply gotten used to his behavior and treatment of Y/n. They didn’t believe he was right for it, but what can you do when you know she’s at least fighting for herself? All siblings and mother accepted that she would never change.
Y/n laid there weeping silently, allowing her body to fall into a deep rest she needed badly.
