i’m having Thoughts about rodney and jennifer so here’s some rambles

i am forever salty about the romance between rodney and jennifer. it felt so forced and so weird to me, neither of them actually seemed to like the other.

it felt so much like rodney went for her bc she was the Young Hot Smart doctor and it was just another status symbol to him. it felt like rodney viewed and treated her as a trophy to parade around and show off (looking at you brain storm) and jennifer deserved better than that, she deserved to be with someone who genuinely understood her and got her as a person and saw the strengths AND flaws to her and still loved and wanted her (like oh idk ronon perhaps?????)

and it definitely felt forced on jennifer’s side too, she kept trying to change him and make him into someone he’s not. the whole ‘i fell for the new rodney mckay’ in shrine really makes it feel like that, bc the whole thing was rodney was losing himself and that’s when they try to establish they’re falling for each other. and rodney deserves better than that too. yeah he’s brash and arrogant and whatever but he has so many strengths too and he deserves someone who will love him because of his flaws, not try to change them (like oh idk john perhaps??????)

and my ronon/jennifer and mcshep hearts aside, the potential of rodney and jennifer to have the best, most chaotic friendship was RIGHT THERE!! they would’ve caused so much trouble oh my god!!! they’re both so sassy and stubborn and strong willed. they both excel so strongly in their specific field but get so flustered outside their expertise (even tho they still kick ass bc they’re super strong and smart) could u imagine them getting together after whatever disaster and just absolutely bitching about how unfair all this is and how this is absolutely not what we signed up for and we don’t not get paid enough but also you can pry this job from our cold dead hands

Summary: Book 3 in the "Interstellar" series. Lara and Evan finally have their happy ending. Or do they? When a mission goes sideways, Lara is left to believe that her life has been turned upside down. Having to face new challenges, while leaving the one place she has called home for the last few years, Lara has to find a new kind of strength if she is to ever be happy again. But when a face from her face shows up on her doorstep, can she go back to her happy ending? Or will external forces mess everything up? Read on to follow Lara on her last adventure of the series.

Epilogue

Making his way to the South Pier after his shift, Evan is a man on a mission. Carrying a large picnic basket, he has decided that tonight is a good night to set up a little picnic for Lara, filled with candles all around them and under a beautiful full moon.

As he sets everything up and waits for Lara to meet him there, he can’t stop the nervousness that threatens to overcome him, his nerves almost making his hands shake. He takes one last look around, making sure everything is perfect, and thinks that it’s time they start a new chapter in their story together, a smile spreading across his face.

It doesn’t take long for Lara to show up and be surprised by what he has done, making him relieved that no one had spilled his plan to her.

-“What’s all this for? Did I miss our anniversary or something?” - A smile plays on her lips.

-“No.” - He chuckles. -“I just wanted to do something special for you.”

-“Thank you. Today was a long day, you have no idea, and this is exactly what I needed. Just some alone time with you.”

Lara kisses him deeply, Evan more than happy to reciprocate the kiss. He is sure that, no matter how long the years run, he will never get tired of the feeling of her lips on his. Once they break apart, Evan helps Lara sit down on the fluffy blanket he borrowed from Teyla and takes a seat next to her, thankful that she loved the idea.

For the next few minutes, they eat and talk about their days, from crazy injuries that Lara treated, to the weird fruit Evan had tried off-world that morning, some of it having made its way into their picnic basket so she could try as well, after being cleared by the biologists in the city.

But the nerves are starting to get to Evan and he keeps rubbing his hand over his neck or messing with his hair. As much as he tries to disguise it, he knows he’s failing when Lara asks him if he’s okay.

-“I’m fine. But there is something I want to talk to you about, though.”

He sees her nodding at him to continue. Taking a deep breath, he knows it’s now or never.

-“Lara, ever since I met you, my life hasn’t been the same. We have been through hell and back to be together, and when we were finally in a good place, life threw another hurdle at us. In our darkest moment, when I thought I would never see you again, I realized that I don’t want to live my life without you. I want to share everything with you, the good, the bad, the ugly, all of it, because you’re the only woman I have ever loved this deeply. So, Lara O’Neill, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

Evan can see the tears in her eyes as he kneels in front of her, a little box with a ring in his hand, and wonders if maybe this isn’t what she would’ve wanted. But the words that leave her mouth next, leave no room for doubts.

-“There’s nothing I want more than to be your wife. Yes, a million times, yes.”

Evan smiles so big, he is sure he is bound to pull a muscle. Placing the ring on her finger, he pulls her close and kisses her deeply. When they pull apart for breath, he thinks that he is one lucky bastard to be able to call a woman as amazing as Lara his future wife.

They spend the rest of the night making plans for the future, from where they want to get married to where they will live once they eventually return to Earth. They talk about who they want at the wedding and how things will change once they are actually married, and they know that some things will also stay the same.

Evan can honestly say that he can’t wait for the rest of his life and to grow old and gray with Lara. Hopefully, the Universe will be kind enough to them and give them that. After all they have been through, he thinks it is well deserved.

For ask game, directors cut of your Larrin x Jennifer fic 👀

You probably know some of this already, since you definitely encouraged me in writing this fic, but here's some behind-the-scenes commentary for Sinew and Satin (formerly titled Spread Sheets):

I put it below the cut because it got long and also the fic is smut, so of course it's nsfw.

It all started with watching "The Seed" a little close to watching Firefly. I wanted to incorporate some of what I love about Kaylee into a fic about Jennifer because she doesn't have a ton of characterization in the show - mostly things just happen to her or Rodney and Ronon are into her.

This, of course, led to the idea that with Jennifer's experience turning into a Wraith hive ship combined with her medical knowledge, she would make an excellent Wraith ship mechanic. And who would need a Wraith ship mechanic? Well, Larrin of course!

The basic premise became that Larrin would kidnap Jennifer to help her repair a Wraith ship, just like she kidnapped John for her Alterran ship. But, of course, Jennifer would respond completely differently. And I realized that Larrin would respond completely differently too - she tied up John (I mean, who wouldn't?) and tried to beat him into submission, but that's totally not going to work on Jennifer. I realized that when kidnapped, Jen will go along with things up to a point, but the best way to get her on board was to create a life-threatening situation (like Larrin and John teaming up to deal with the Wraith). I also tend to go on and on if I let myself try to explain the setup, so instead, we start with Jennifer up to her elbows in the hive ship, probably running low on oxygen because the life support systems are failing.

This also gave me a chance to explore her coping mechanisms - when shit happens to her, we see her panic in situations outside her comfort zone. But when it gets down to it, she's a brilliant doctor and seems to usually just need a shift in perspective to get into things.

I love the idea of her pulling kind of a Rodney and getting really bossy once she's in the zone. Yeah, she might be terrified, but once she's set on a task, it doesn't matter that her assisting surgeon is also her captor - she's gonna manhandle her and get shit done. And Larrin is into it. I headcanon Larrin as really into competence because she's had to fight for her position and part of being a good captain is recognizing the skills of your crew. So Larrin is definitely into it, even though they're covered in Wraith hive guts and fighting to breathe. And then, we move into Jen fainting into Larrin's arms like we're in a harlequin romance (pirate queen kidnaps brilliant young doctor, etc.), and a fade to black.

As we get into the sexy bits, I just really wanted to emphasize that Jennifer was a different kind of captive - she's not in a cell, she's in the captain's quarters, surrounded by the kinds of luxuries the Travellers can afford in a life in space. I also just wanted to have Jen naked on satin sheets (but it makes a surprising amount of sense in the plot).

My goal with the sex scene was to flip the script on the kinds of things we usually see with Larrin/John, where Larrin is so very dominant (or very tied up). Jennifer is often shown as nervous and young and kind of swept away by events, but we know she can be dominant and the instigator - supposedly she jumped Rodney on the private jet. So I wanted more of that to shine through. I wanted her to realize, oh shit, Larrin has the hots for me, and then take control. I wanted Larrin to be able to submit without being a prisoner - to get a chance to be overwhelmed and not in charge for once because she's the kind of person who always has to show how much she's in charge. But Jennifer can take care of that.

This was my first ever attempt at femslash, and it is by far the smuttiest I have written so far. I really wanted to focus on textures and make it sensual and drawn out. I felt like both Jen and Larrin deserved someone to really take their time touching them.

In contrast to how things worked out with John, I wanted them to have a romantic goodbye instead of an antagonistic one. I also couldn't resist her giving Larrin a really public goodbye kiss. I love the idea of Jennifer Keller, who lots of people think of as timid, taking this really dominant role with this otherwise incredibly dominant woman. And completely flabbergasting AR-1, who've heard plenty about John's experience. And I couldn't resist having her yell back at Larrin "Call me!"

Title notes: I had no idea what to call this, but "Spread Sheets" was suggested (by you) because I was writing this instead of doing my spreadsheet work, and I thought it was a great title for some smut. And it was, but a few days later, the title Sinew and Satin came to me late at night and then bugged me until I changed it.

I recently have been encouraged in my thoughts of potentially doing more Jennifer/Larrin (again, you are such a good smutstigator), so here are some brief ideas I've had:

As mentioned in the fic, Jennifer could be doing some wellness checks for the Traveller fleet on a friendly planet, and Larrin has some ideas for what Jennifer could do for her wellness

Larrin comes to Atlantis for whatever reason, and they end up doing a much kinkier scene with Jen in charge

Jen has a present for Larrin, and it's John, all tied up and ready to play with (Larrin is still a sub, but John is too)

I'm excited to play with them because they have so much potential. And I want to get better at writing f/f porn.

What made you ship it? it's so hard to remember this! but i think at some point i was just like "hm, i think Elizabeth deserves some good dick, let's see... oh yeah, what if she got together with Ronon every once in a while?" and that's basically what this whole idea started but the more i started to think about it the more i found that things between them actually might work out?

What are your favorite things about the ship? - they are both extremely sexy - they both have a hard time asking for the things they need in a relationship but weirdly i think that if they got together they would get better at it, especially if it started as a friends with benefits thing because then the whole thing would be based around talking about each other's (sexual) needs and i think that would translate into a romantic relationship as well - ronon is literally the only person who manages to fluster elizabeth! especially in the beginning when she tries to talk to him and he just... doesn't? it's hilarious to watch and i'd like to think that Elizabeth is wrecking her brain about how to get him to talk or how to get through to him - they care deeply about the people close to each other and i think they would Care! So! Much! about each other if they were in a relationship. just... so much... i could write more but i'll stop now

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

again, i feel like just shipping them is an unpopular opinion? bc not a lot of people do ship them?

And maybe the idea that they are fuck buddies at first is unpopular as well but to me it makes total sense: she doesn't want to get attached, she can't do relationships in her position. he has lost everything at some point and now slowly gaining things back. he lost the love of his life and maybe doesn't want to get emotionally involved. but he *does* respect Elizabeth, he is incredibly thankful that she let him stay in atlantis... there is so much!

Why don’t you ship it?

a lot of people have talked about this before but for me they just don't vibe. It's not that i don't think that fundamentally different people can't find some common ground and maybe get together, it's that Keller sees McKay and thinks "i can fix him" even though he doesn't need fixing, you know?

Now, McKay is far from perfect, but she tries to change him into that person that would be the perfect boyfriend for her.

2. What would have made you like it?

for one i think if they had stopped wanting her to change him and if they had not pushed it that much?

also if they had made him her only love interest without sprinkling ronon and (in cut scenes) Vega in there as well.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

I used to not dislike them when i was first watching SGA, does that count?

Well, we kind of have those fights in the show... I’d still say Teal’c. He’s got more than muscles and that’s experience in strategic combat.

As a man? Daniel, of course! As a team leader? Jack.

3. Who is the best head of SG (SGC or SGA): George Hammond, Hank Landry, Elisabeth Weir, Sam Carter or Richard Woolsey?

George Hammond for sure.  Nothing against the others, Hammond just gave the example how to do it.

4. Who is the best enemy: Goa’uld, Replicators, Ori or Wraith?

That is an interesting question because “best” can have many interpretations. Personally, I had the most fun with Goa’uld. I saw the Replicators as a greater threat, though, because they can replicate and evolve quite easily so technically, they are the best. They managed to almost destroy such a developed race as Asgards!

5. If you could pick three characters (no matter if dead or alive) to create a team, who would they be?

Lol, ‘no matter if dead or alive’... So, Sheppard as a leader. Sam as a scientist (she could swap with Zelenka). Ronon as the muscle. And me, I’d be female Daniel.

6. Where would you be rather stationed: SGC or Atlantis?

Atlantis, definitely. I think I would get claustrophobic in SGC, to be honest. And as Pisces, I am very close to water.

7. What’s your favourite ship (canon or not) from each show?

Nothing could be easier to answer.

SG-1: Daniel x Vala, SGA: Rodney x Jennifer, SGU: Everett x T.J.

8. What rare/alien species did you like the best?

Oh wow... Hard to choose between Asgard and Nox but I suppose I’ll go with good old Asgard.

9. Who is your favourite Alien (person/creature not from Earth).

Vala Mal Doran, without a doubt.

SG-1: Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran

John Sheppard is in love with Rodney McKay :)

what Jeannie & Rodney's team did in The Shrine was selfish. I understand why they did it, man do I understand, but Jennifer being against their decision is such a juvenile reason to hate her character. if anything, her stand in that particular issue is a point in favor of McKeller (one of very few lol). one of my favorite Shrine episode tags is But If You Try Sometimes (you just might find) by sardonicsmiley because of this particular section:

After their arguments over what should have been done with Rodney, Ronon won't even look [Jennifer] in the eye. She doesn't know how to make the man understand that she could have never let Rodney just go, not while there was still a chance she could do something. A quick death is still a death. It's still unacceptable.

Atlantis is a civilian outpost. it should never have had a military leader (I love Sam, but having her take Elizabeth's place, however briefly, was such a cop out).

in line with that, it doesn't make sense for Sheppard to be immediately in charge when the leader is gone, either. I know it's a terrifying thought, Rodney being in charge, but he's the next ranking civilian. that's actually logical. (besides, Sheppard is many things, but a leader in charge of everyone's welfare — not just his immediate circle / family — is not one of them. we have proof of that in canon.) I'd really love to sit down one day and map out an expedition charter that is actually coherent lol.

Rodney is just as smart as he says he is (even more than he really thinks he is). intelligence is a nebulous concept, and true intelligence, at least the holistic kind, is more than just one's capacity for critical thinking and pattern recognition, but I'd like to believe that in terms of brain power and sheer ingenuity? Rodney is the best in (at least) two galaxies. (yes, even more than Radek. even more than Sam. plus, they're both better than McKay in social / emotional aspects by leaps and bounds, anyway, so they're better off in the end). personally, this helps me rationalize his personality and character in general. it certainly doesn't excuse the bad attitude, but if I look at it as Rodney just being unparalleled in raw mental prowess? so many things about him would make a whole lot more sense. [Jeannie is on the same level, but the key deviations are her being 1) the younger sibling, and 2) a woman, two factors which guaranteed Jeannie a very different path]. the fic Sublime by Lemonbella cemented this headcanon for me, actually:

It was obvious, watching it in process like this, that McKay just had it. He had everything they ever needed right there at his fingertips, to be used at his discretion, and in his own time. Radek suddenly knew why Dr Weir had chosen him for the expedition, why everyone let all the arrogance and bluster and incessant chatter pass them by, and why Rodney was allowed three times his ration of coffee a day. Because you only had to see this in action once to understand that a body needed help to keep up with a mind like this.

Michael, Kolya, & Todd deserved better endings.

everyone needed to apologize to Kavanagh for what went down in Critical Mass. he's a dick, but there's only a handful of differences between him and our Rodney.

Teyla & Kate Heightmeyer were lovers.

Atlantis is not alive, but it is sentient in a way that is beyond human perception (and it is not a big fan of John Sheppard).
