Soap knows how to load and fire a flintlock but won’t tell anyone how or why
it’s his favorite party trick and he loves to gloat that he knows how to operate one weapon that Ghost doesn’t (he could probably figure it out but doesn’t want to risk sacrificing his fingers or face in a firearm explosion to test that theory)

Dear @crepesuzette2023, thank you a lot <3 - and can I steal the quote from your great translation for one good thing?
I remembered another risk-taking joke! This time - by Rod Davis:
We [John and I] were outside a record shop, and the sound of Lonnie Donegan’s Rock Island Line came wafting out of the shop, and I thought, ‘Wow! That is absolutely fantastic. I’m going to have some of that!’ So I started pestering for a guitar or a banjo. Eventually we found out that an uncle of ours, who played in a dance band in North Wales, he played the fiddle and a saw, the musical saw. My brother had the saw and I had the fiddle, and his brother-in-law, who played in the same band, had a banjo and a guitar which he was selling. By the time we found out about it, the guitar had already been sold, which is to my eternal regret because if I’d got the guitar instead of the banjo, McCartney probably never would have got into the Quarrymen! But that’s another story!
(Rod Davis, interview for The Liverpool Echo, 2017)
SZaW: Stu Sutcliffe couldn’t, and didn’t want to play. Did you want to take his place? Voormann: Maybe. During their final show together, I went to John and said, “Well, John, would it be possible for me to play bass?” And he said, “Sorry, Klaus, Paul already bought a bass. He’s going to be our new bassist.” <…> SZaW: Like Pete Best, you narrowly missed your chance. Voormann: If you look at the musical roots of the Beatles, I would have fit better, in some ways, than Paul. SZaW : Me? Voormann: Many people will take this the wrong way if I'm saying it here, but I approach bass playing completely differently. I would have stood for something primitive, earthy. If I’d been in the band, I would have used my influence to push for more rhythm and blues. SZaW: For the Hamburg cellar dwellers. Voormann: I know that John could have been closer to these roots, that later came through in a few numbers. But from the moment they became Lennon-McCartney, that disappeared completely—"Please Please Me", "She Loves You", "Help" and everything. They took off towards a completely new style of music, and I probably would have been an obstacle. SZaW: Unlike Paul McCartney, who seduces the camera with his puppy eyes in Let It Be. Foreman : The charlatan. SZaW: But important, because of the girls. Voormann: Without Paul, Beatlemania wouldn’t have happened. Paul is an entertainer; he can handle an audience. Different from John, who wasn’t a front man.
(Klaus Voormann, interview for Süddeutsche Zeitung, 2010) Translation into English by wonderful @crepesuzette2023 <33

“Hoodlum girls on the loose … and no man can stop them!” Released 65 years ago (5 October 1959) today: Girls Town (1959), the acme of fifties drive-in juvenile delinquent b-movies. With many of these flicks, the actual movie can’t hope to live up to the lurid posters and tantalizing taglines. Girls Town genuinely delivers on the thrills. It boasts adolescent thugs running amok! Teen tramps! Hot rods and drag races! Girl-on-girl catfights! Frantic rock’n’roll music! The threat of sex trafficking in Tijuana! And nuns! Vocal group The Platters coo ethereal doo-wop in a nightclub sequence. And everyone speaks in ultra-camp hepcat beatnik lingo like “No dice!” “You dig me?” “It’s real gone, ma!” “Not wonderful – crazy! Cool! Fantabulous!” “I’m blasting out of here!” and “You’re in Queersville, man! You’ve flipped!” (Where is this “Queersville” and how do I get there?). In her definitive role, wanton platinum blonde leading lady Mamie Van Doren stars as 16-year-old hellcat Silver Morgan. (Even with her perky ponytail and tight Capri pants, 28-year-old Van Doren is perhaps the most overripe, fleshy and mature adolescent in cinematic history). Girls Town is precisely the kind of film that John Waters parodies in his 1990 rockabilly musical Cry-Baby (and the Traci Lords character is directly modeled on Van Doren). Best dialogue: when non-Catholic Silver inquires “what’s holy water?” and one of her fellow Girls Town inmates snaps, “It’s water with the hell boiled out of it!” Watch it here.

One World Under Doom #1 by Ryan North and R.B. Silva. Cover by Ben Harvey. Variant covers by (2) Mike Mignola, (3) Rod Reis, (4) Rose Besch, (5) Nick Bradshaw, (6) John Tyler Christopher, (7) Will Sliney and (8) Silva. Out in February 2025.
"ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM!
Six months ago, Doctor Victor Von Doom became Sorcerer Supreme – then disappeared behind Latveria’s closed borders. For most, there’s enough going on in the world that Doom’s absence is not a priority, and some time without him feels like a blessing. Only a few recognize it for what it truly was… the calm before the storm. It is a storm that has now arrived. The world has woken up to a new reality: Doctor Doom, Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, has magically taken over every broadcast medium on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the World – the ruler of a new United Latveria! And shockingly, impossibly, all of Earth’s leaders seem to be going along with this. Luckily, whether it’s mind control or Doombots, whatever’s affecting them hasn’t affected Earth’s heroes – and so they quickly form a strike team to stop Doom’s machinations.
But will they succeed? And what happens when some begin to welcome their new Emperor with open arms, clamoring for One World Under Doom? Marvel’s biggest and most shocking event ever begins right here with ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #1."
