The Rodent Club
(my official confession) 🐀🌀
Lowkey on a roll and bored rn so did you guys know my favorite sp relationship is actually (PLATONIC!) Craig, Marj, and Kenny?
I think they'd have a really fun dynamic as a full group and here's how I think it would start..
Craig REALLY wants a guinea pig. He did a lot of research on them in the school library and he's made up his mind. If he doesn't get a guinea pig he'll probably die but his parents say no so he goes for the next best thing, talking to people about guinea pigs. It quickly gets annoying and everyone wants him to shut up so Clyde tells him to go annoy someone else.
He decides to start a guinea pig club. All participants will meet him by the swings after school to enter. No one shows. He goes for something a little more vague: The Rodent Club. Two people show up: Butters and Kenny. First things first Kenny shows off his rats (he keeps them in his pockets and feeds them crumbs, probably). Butters shows off his little hamster toys, yk, the ones with the wheels that walk around? Anyway, he promises that they usually move around, but the batteries are dead. Thus the three are sent on their first mission! Find batteries to see the hamsters move around!
The three of them have Laura help put the batteries in and they take the hamsters to the basement but Kenny trips and falls on the way down! Day RUINED?!
They rarely meet after that, really only going to Craig's house to meet the first Stripe. It's kind of a secondary friendship for a while. If Eric's not around they'll go hang out with Craig or if Clyde's being stupid Craig will hang out with them. They don't really get closer until high school so now let me explain this dynamic.
The Tucker house is a safe space basically. They meet up and play games in the basement while Marj rants (Kenny sucks at Rocket League but plays it all the time with Craig). To outsiders, Craig is the "leader" of this group but the three of them know it's Marj. They both pick up habits from her! Kenny will talk with his fists on his hips like she does and every now and then Craig will pull a "Oh, hamburgers.."
Craig also has an issue with eating at good times. He'll forget to, and even if he miraculously remembers he has specific times to eat so he's not too full before dinner. He's strangely meticulous about it. In response, Kenny and Marj really aren't having it so they learn his schedule and eat with him. He's also super bad at focusing on homework assignments but Kenny and Marj are mostly in the more advanced classes so they can help him with stuff really easily.
Kenny likes Craig because he's actually surprisingly affectionate in his own way. He has no problem holding Kenny's hand, wrapping an arm around him, or giving him piggyback rides. OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT because Craig has a crazy high pain tolerance Kenny will give him piercings whenever. Yeah. He also does Marj's ears!
When Kenny brings Karen over, Marj will ditch them to braid hair n shit though. Tricia and Karen both think she's really cool and they do her makeup and play pranks on the boys.
The basement is important though. There was an incident with Kenny and Stripe in a monster truck and a coffee table and let's just say it didn't end well for anyone... I had a scrapped fic where they all met up the night after graduation because Kenny was nervous about starting adulthood and they both basically just reassured him that they'd stay together for life (they don't see each other for another like 3 years). It was based on the song LAST LOVE SONG ON THIS LITTLE PLANET (i love this album btw stream LAUGHINGFISH on Spotify) and so now thats the official Rodent Club theme song to me.!
OKAY ALSO the Rodent Club is CRUCIAL to Marj's character development. It starts out as a little joke, they say to her she'd be a great president so they create little patches that say V.M.F.P (vote marj for president) and start handing them out to random people, saying it's propaganda and pretty much everyone has one somewhere (i include it in a lot of my designs go find it)
Well, in high school, she realizes she can run for student council president. She ends up neck and neck with Wendy Testaburger, the legend, who gets so mad at Marj she basically blows the whole election and Marj wins by default! It's a really big turning point for their confidence and Kenny and Craig were there the whole time supporting them >:3
I've probably talked too much but I need someone to see them the way I see them o_o wait until I hit y'all with the Scott/Pip/Butters/Jimmy friendship.... or, god forbid, Kenny+Kyle sibling relationship....

Action Comics #703 (September 1994)
The final Zero Hour crossover! Superman visits an alternate timeline where he did what babies would normally do if put on a rocket and sent to another planet! You know, die.
We start with Metropolis being attacked by a version of Starro the Conqueror who's visiting from a timeline where he defeated the Justice League of America during their first appearance. Superman takes the giant starfish monster down within a couple of pages, making the JLA look like chumps since it took them a whole issue to do the same thing (or not do it, in this case).
After that, Clark Kent stops by the Daily Planet's temporary offices (since their actual offices got blown up by missiles) to check in on the gang, and everything seems pretty normal... until Perry White disappears in front of everyone. Clark realizes old people are getting Marty McFly'd because the time crisis is erasing the decades they were born in. And who else does he know who's pretty old...?
Tumblr media
(I'm not sure if Pa should feel insulted or flattered.)
Superman flies faster than he's ever flown to Smallville (is this the start of that trope?), but once he gets there, reality shifts around him again, and instead of Ma and Pa Kent, he meets... Ma and Pa Kent, but young. He's now in a world where time moves slower and it's still the '40s, which, on the upside, means he's got more time to save his Ma and Pa. The Young Kents think this circus strongman must be a goon sent by someone they refer to as "the doc" and decide to chain him up. Normally, this wouldn't be much of a problem for Superman -- if the metal box where Past Pa keeps his chains didn't happen to also contain some kryptonite. How did it get there? Past Ma helpfully explains while her son from another reality agonizes.
In this timeline, the Kents were on a weekend trip to Kansas when the Kryptonian rocket landed in their farm, so by the time they got to it, poor baby Kal-El had passed away. Oh, and some heartless bastard had stolen the rocket and left the baby lying there. But hey, at least the Kents got some neat glowing rock out of it!
Tumblr media
That heartless bastard was Dr. Emmett Vale, the alien-hating scientist who would go on to create Metallo in Superman's timeline. The Kents leave Superman chained up next to the kryptonite as they go visit Vale with a shotgun to make him pay for sending garishly-dressed thugs their way, plus the baby murder and stuff. Superman is too weak to move away from the kryptonite, but not too weak to melt the wheels of Pa Kent's truck with his eyes, causing the metal box with the kryptonite to slam shut (thank Rao most metal boxes in this timeline are also lined with lead, for some reason).
Meanwhile, the Kents have already been captured by Vale's goons. Vale, who is terribly concerned about an alien invasion, says he used the technology from the Kryptonian rocket to build a machine to cross to a neighboring dimension and steal some of the "awesome weapons" there, which he plans to use against those hated aliens. In fact, he hates the aliens so much that he has no regrets about leaving a tiny one to die. Unfortunately for him, a bigger alien overhears that.
Tumblr media
Vale activates his dimension-crossing machine, which causes the Old Kents to start materializing in the portal as they sync with this timeline, meaning they're once again a few seconds away from getting Marty McFly'd. While Superman worries about that, Vale activates some '40s-style robots and sends them after him, but Superman isn't terribly intimidated. (He did just fight a much scarier killer robot a couple of months ago.)
Superman destroys two of the robots, but the resulting electric shock (plus some lingering kryptonite poisoning) leaves him stunned. Past Pa actually saves Superman from the last robot using his trusty shotgun, while Past Ma saves herself from Vale using her nails.
Tumblr media
With the Young Kents safe, Superman uses the portal to try to bring the Old ones into this reality to buy them more time. When he's about to do that, he finds himself transported into the timestream by Linear Lady Liri Lee, who tells him it's time to go back to the Zero Hour series and fight "the true cause of this chronal chaos." Superman curses her for dooming his parents, but then she shows him that the Young Kents' timeline is disappearing anyway. Superman agrees to rejoin the crossover just to kick its mystery villain's butt (of course, if you've read ZH #1, you know it already happened the other way).
Meanwhile, in Metropolis, Lois Lane reports on the latest breaking news story: the end of time. She watches from a rooftop as a wave of entropy swallows Metropolis, and only interrupts her narration at the very end, to say...
Tumblr media
And then: four pages of nothing (which was a running theme in several DC comics this month). TO BE CONCLUDED IN ZERO HOUR!
Plotline-Watch:
At the start, Clark tells Lois he took some time to check in on Metropolis since he and the other heroes had "stopped the chronal deterioration in the future" in Zero Hour #2, meaning this must take place between that issue and #1. The only problem is that Liri Lee and Matthew Ryder had been left in stasis by Extant in ZH #4 and were only freed by Superman and others in #1... but I guess that's not a massive continuity screwup given that she's a time traveling character and all. Hell, it could even be 2025 Post-Zero Hour, Post-Infinite Crisis, Post-New 52, Post-whatever Liri visiting this old timeline.
Jimmy Olsen wearing shirts for '90s bands was a staple of this era, but they've never been quite as... revealing as the NIN one he decided to wear to the office in this issue. Is he trying to impress Lucy Lane now that she's an alt-rocker girl (or grrrl)? Did a time fluke make him switch clothes with a much shorter Jimmy from another timeline? Or did he realize the world is ending and said "screw it, I'll dress like I always wanted to dress"? I think it might have been the shock of seeing Jimmy wearing that what made Perry White drop out of reality, not the entropy wave.
Tumblr media
Previous appearances had depicted Dr. Vale as a kooky scientist, while this one shows him as more of a rich mob-boss type character. It's possible he lost his fortune, henchmen, and weight as he grew older and more paranoid about aliens, or this is just one of the differences between the timelines (another one being that Superman's rocket landed in the '40s, which means this Kal-El would have been in his fifties by 1994).
This issue would be greatly improved by one small change: instead of a shotgun, Young Pa should have been carrying around his shovel (you know, the shovel from The Man of Steel #6 and Adventures #500) and that's what he uses to save Superman from the robot at the end. You messed up, Michelinie.
Shout Outs-Watch:
Shameless Jimmy Olsen shirt-style shout outs to our SUPporters, Aaron, Chris “Ace” Hendrix, britneyspearsatemyshorts, Patrick D. Ryall, Mark Syp, Ryan Bush, Raphael Fischer, Kit, Dave Shevlin, and Dave Blosser! Join them (and get extra articles) via Patreon or our newsletter’s “pay what you want” mode! Both of those also have free tiers, if you just wanna get posts like this one in your inbox.
And now, more about this issue's most important topics (including, yes, Jimmy's fashion choices) from the great Don Sparrow:
Art-Watch (by @donsparrow):
We start with the cover, and it’s a perfect representation of the Zero Hour storyline—bright white entropy erasing away reality.  There’s something about the way Superman’s arm is stretched out slightly to the side that makes it look like he’s just waving “ahhhh, nuts to you” to the outstretched arms of Lois Lane.  One small, but interesting detail is that even the trade dress “Superman in Action Comics” is brightening as it’s erased by the white wave.
Inside the issue we get great, pitched action as the story opens, with helicopter military gunner firing on Starro the Conqueror.
Tumblr media
A few pages later, Clark and Lois are tastefully dressed, but I wish I could say the same for Jimmy.  I get that they want him to seem modern, which is why they stick him with a then-current Nine Inch Nails shirt, but why it’s a sleeveless belly shirt is a mystery to me.  Jimmy’s look also showcases a common problem in superhero storytelling—everyone is a mesomorph!  I’m sure Jimmy is in fit condition, but here he’s shown with a bodybuilder physique to rival even Superman’s.
The image of a determined Superman soaring to check on his parents (who, being older than Perry White, already should have disappeared) is a good one, though it begs the question of what his plan is—he couldn’t seem to do anything to stop Perry disappearing, how will his parents be any different?
Tumblr media
[Max: Had it been established that the Kents are older than Perry? Superman says otherwise in this issue. The hair does make Perry look younger; I bet it would be the other way around if Pa wore a toupée.]
Moving along, the shot of a thoughtful Superman in shadow is a great drawing.
As we’re introduced to Emmett Vale, he looks like Al Capone by way of Winston Churchill.  By the time the robots show up, the wheels are really off this story. [Max: I like the '40s-style look of the robots, but I also can't help thinking Bogdanove would have had a lot more fun with these guys than Guice did.]
Tumblr media
Vanishing Point always has a distinctive look, which I’m guessing was hard to pull off in this era of four-colour colouring.  Finally, Lois’ expression of blank terror is appropriate as the wave of destruction erases reality.  Having the final few pages totally blank is pretty nervy, and definitely has a disquieting effect, though in this specific issue, it also feels like we were shortchanged a little on story. [Max: I checked and we still got 22 pages of story... but no lettercol, which I always enjoy reading in these backissues. So yeah, shortchanged.]
SPEEDING BULLETS:
A cute shoutout to the artist ho drew the very first appearance of Starro (and the Justice League), Mike Sekowsky, as one of the soldiers bears that surname.
Wait, what is Lois eating?  It kinda looks like an ice cream treat, but the white stars on blue looks like paper?  What is that thing? [Max: Yeah, that always bugged me. Why is she biting the paper?! Is this her "it's the end of the world, gonna do what I want" moment?]
Tumblr media
We are definitely in the Lois and Clark era, as comic book Perry is saddled with TV Perry’s catch phrase “Great Shades of Elvis” as he disappears into nothingness. [Max: Maybe this is actually Lois and Clark timeline Perry, and no one noticed.]
Tumblr media
It’s telling to me that in a crisis of this magnitude, Superman seems to choose his parents over Lois.  Unless he thought they were in more immediate danger than the younger Lois.  Still, her getting wiped from reality all alone is pretty sad to see.
Missed an issue? Looking for an old storyline? Check out our new chronological issue index!

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds - Chaos, Uncontrolled
Tumblr media
Last weekend I got to take part in the Network Test for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. Spoiler - it’s good! It’s arcadey! It’s a clusterfuck! It’s NOT Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed!
I think that’s the big thing you really have to reconcile. Sega made the best kart racer of all time - All Star Racing Transformed is in a league of its own, and if you’ve never played it, that might be surprising to hear. Immaculate drifting and handling, weapons with skill expression, gorgeous tracks with presentation reverent enough to overwhelm the Skies of Arcadia creators with emotion. Only Crash Team Racing comes close to it for me.
This isn’t Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed, and it took me at least half my playtime to accept that. The handling is good, but different. Air tricks can’t be failed, meaning you can spam them on every jump for a boost - the risk/reward is gone. Boats and planes return, but their new gameplay feels neutered - truly a side attraction to driving, rather than a companion piece.
ARST wasn’t the biggest commercial success, though. It was really technical and demanding, its challenge mode was NAILS hard, and its online was filled with devils who lived and breathed it, so I have to concede that copying the formula wouldn’t necessarily be the best idea. I do think that CrossWorlds hits a similar arcade-y vibe to ASRT, but whereas the former serves up an experience where every replay gives you a chance to perfect your skills, the latter is a chaotic, scrappy fight to the finish where you never know what you’re going to get.
The biggest gimmick this time are the Warp Rings. Every second lap gives player 1 the opportunity to select where the race will go. Lap 1 might be a glitzy cyber stadium, but Lap 2 could see you on a giant roulette wheel, thrust back in time to dodge rampaging dinosaurs, or flying through a lava-filled asteroid! After that, you’re back to your first track for a final lap, but the layout is different. New shortcuts open, new hazards are revealed, and I swear you get even more of the hard-hitting items. There’s even a chance for the levels to randomly change gimmick. Frenzy Mode saw 10x more speed boosters litter the track like candy, and your drift boosts charged up nigh instantly. It all makes for one frenetic time, and I can’t wait to see what else is on offer when the game releases.
Tumblr media
If you won the last match, you get to wear a little crown for the next match. Well, for Cream, Cheese gets to wear it instead. Adorable.
Speaking of tracks, I really liked the stage choices! There’s a bunch of different paths and mini-shortcuts even outside of the lap change mechanics. Metal Harbour from SA2 has rampaging GUN robots and a giant ramp that appears after a rocket launches. It’s very thematic of the level it’s referencing. E-Stadium is a fun take on Green Hill Zone - replicating its assets in a holographic voxel format as decoration for a giant stadium, lined with cheering Chao.
The breakout star for me was Wonder Museum. Rather than be an explicit callback to another Sonic game, it serves as an in-universe museum lined with lots of mini callbacks. The cynic in me could have easily seen this be a prop reuse track, but its all new assets! It has Tail’s biplane and ancient rocks that resemble something from Frontiers, yes, but it also has old-timey cars, skeletal dinosaurs, and some SA2-styled archaeologist ghosts flying around - the whole thing doesn’t seem like a desperate callback so much as a piece of contextualised world-building. Yes, this is totally what a museum in the Sonic universe would look like!
Tumblr media
Some surprising choices for the first 9 characters! I mean, Tails? Who even is that?! (Also I made a C.C coloured car :D)
Anyway, back to the gameplay. This lil preview is a rattle off of my thoughts ad-hoc, and that means it’s a scattered and scrambled and all over the place and - hey! What’s that on the horizon?! OH GOD IT’S AN ANALOGY!!
I can’t understate it - CrossWorlds is a fucking warzone. I’ve never seen a kart racer where the group was so densely packed. This feels like Mario Kart Wii on crack. Often times, a well-timed boost item could see me rocket from 11th to 1st - and a weapon from my opponent could easily send me back. Racers are constantly scraping paint against one another. There was no situation in which I felt a player could dominate - every one of us was always seconds away from victory or disaster. Somehow, getting hit doesn’t feel awful - you’ll slow, but never to a full stop, and you’re usually back at full speed in a matter of seconds. The expectation is that you’re going to be a hit, a lot, and I do think it works, but you really have to be in the mood for it.
Gadgets only add to the mayhem. You can add passive abilities to your cars, and they mix things up quite substantially. One lets you time your boost for more gains a la Crash Team Racing, one makes your air tricks faster. Some can even start you with a certain item! My build consisted of carrying more rings (which correlate to your speed), and gaining rings every time I slammed my car into someone. In my dinky little Handling-type car, I felt a bit like a parasite, sucking on the teat of the big mean predators for their sweet, sweet rings. I do wonder if there will be a dominant meta build that will win out, but I guess time while tell! For now, there feels like there’s enough customisation that everyone will find something to match their playstyle.
On the subject of cars, you can make your own! There’s Speed, Acceleration, Power, and Handling, and they each have different stats. You can buy and unlock parts, change the colours, and even add stickers! It’s delightful. Some of the cars are clearly based on characters, like Sonic and Shadow, and some are really cool callbacks. You can make Eggman’s drill car from Sonic 2, or ride in a Motobug-inspired nippy thing. Anyone can ride any car, so you can put Cream the Rabbit in a giant killdozer. I can’t wait to see how Extreme Gear, the airboards from Sonic Riders, play like, plus what other car options they’ll have at launch! Collecting and building your own might give CrossWorlds some real staying power.
Speaking of presentation, it’s full of nice touches. There’s an emote wheel unique to each character, each with little chibi renditions that match the Sonic the Sketchog series Sega put out a few years back. Characters take part in banter, but it’s so rare as not to overstay its welcome. Cream cheerfully exclaiming that she hit Shadow and Omega, while the two earnestly express how proud they are of her warms my heart like nobody’s business.
Tumblr media
There were a lot of Shadows - why would you pick him when you could put Cream in a killdozer though?!
I only have two big criticisms. It took a little bit too long to get into a race for my liking. There’s match making, then 30 seconds of lobby antics where you vote for a track (you can emote and honk your horn which is pretty silly though), then loading in…then racing! It probably adds up to like 2 or 3 minutes per race in total. It’s not the end of the world, but reducing that would definitely help. The other issue is the sound design - it’s mixed in a very muddy way. Characters yell every time you span the air tricks, which you’re doing all the time, items blare and bleep and it all washes out the music. I don’t think I like the music much, either. It’s serviceable, until the 3rd lap, where a choral rendition of the track’s theme will play. It kind of gives Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but in execution it’s a bit anaemic. Only the jazzy lounge stylings of Wonder Museum made an impact with me. It’s super weird, they made levels like Water Palace from Sonic Rush then didn’t put a remix of Back 2 Back in? Ocean View, from Sonic Heroes, gets a jingle of Sonic R’s theme, and then You Can Do Anything from Sonic CD?? I understand the reasoning, because Ocean View did the same thing in both All Stars Racing & Transformed, but that was a game representing multiple franchises! This is Sonic! Use the good music!!
Ultimately, I think your enjoyment of CrossWorlds will depend on what you want out of a kart racer - you cannot drive your way to victory alone, and items will absolutely ruin your day, but you can give as good as you get. Personally I think there’s a balance between skill and luck, and this might be skirting just a bit too far on the randomness side. That being said, I’m also gutted the weekend is over and I can’t play it anymore, so that speaks for itself really! I'm very keen to see the full cast of characters, hoping for challenge mode to rival ASRT’s and a story mode to beat Team Sonic Racing’s - so I guess time will tell!
Also, King Boom Boo is the blue shell equivalent. He wears sunglasses because he’s weak to sunlight in SA2. Delightful.

Hatsune Miku is in Rocket League!! I didn't know this, because she is only in the Chinese version of the game, which is shutting down fairly soon apparently... (Someone, please extract the models!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently, some of the items, like the boost and the wheels, got variants and were put into a Rocket Pass in the regular version of Rocket League
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that Miku Topper, Flag, and Decal are nowhere to be seen!!
But the Goal is also in the regular version of Rocket League... kinda..
Tumblr media
Rocket League made their own Robo Bunny Girl named Buffy Sugo, and she replaces Miku in this Goal Explosion
Her design is pretty cute, and I do hope she gets added to Fortnite someday (Alongside Miku)

None of the earnable rewards in the Rocket League x XMen '97 collaboration event (wheels, boost, trail) are flagged to be compatible with Fortnite. The only decal is for the Breakout car body, which isn't in Rocket Racing yet.
There are two Octane decals in the Rocket League Item Shop (Wolverine and Jubilee) which could come to Rocket Racing eventually.

Your New Obsession: Everything Formula One
Intro
If you're into fast cars and intense competition, then Formula One might just be your new obsession. This adrenaline-pumping sport is all about speed, skill, and drama on and off the track. Get ready to dive into the world of Formula One racing and discover why it's one of the most exciting sports out there.
What the Heck is Formula One Anyway?
Alright, let's break it down - Formula One, or F1 if you wanna sound cool, is basically the top tier when it comes to car racing. Imagine all the speed freaks and car geniuses coming together for like, the ultimate showdown of racing across the globe. It's not just any race; it’s the big leagues, where the cars are more like rockets on wheels and the drivers are kinda like superheroes of the track.
These aren't the cars you see cruising down the street. Nah, F1 cars are on another level – think supercharged engines, sleek designs, and tech so advanced it makes your smartphone look like a toy. And the folks behind the wheel? Pure talent. We’re talking about the crème de la crème from all over the world, battling it out in a mix of skill, speed, and sheer nerve.
It’s an international spectacle, with races happening in some of the coolest locations on the planet. From the glamour of Monaco to the speed temple of Monza, every race is a new adventure. And yeah, the competition is fierce, but that's what makes it so gripping. Whether you're into the technical wizardry that goes into the cars, the strategy that plays out on track, or just the raw excitement of racing – F1's got something for ya. Trust me, it's a whole new level of racing.
The Need for Speed: How F1 Cars Are Different
Okay, lemme lay it down for ya. F1 cars? They're like the superheroes of the car world. We're not talking about your run-of-the-mill, drive-to-the-grocery-store kind of cars. These beasts are engineered to be the fastest, slickest machines on the planet. Picture this: engines so powerful, they make thunder sound like a kitten purring. Aerodynamics so on point, they could slice through air like a hot knife through butter.
And the tech? Oh boy, it's like something outta a sci-fi movie. Teams throw down millions just to tweak and tune their rides to perfection. We're talking innovations that haven't even hit the public eye, all designed to shave off a millisecond here and there. Because in F1, every millisecond counts.
These cars can blitz from 0 to 60 faster than you can say "Formula One". Hitting speeds that'd make your eyes water, they're all about pushing the limits of what's possible on four wheels. And it's not just about raw speed. It's the precision, the handling, the way these cars can hug a corner at breakneck speeds without missing a beat.
So yeah, F1 cars? They're in a league of their own. Pure, unadulterated speed machines that redefine what it means to go fast.
The Big Names You Gotta Know
Alright, so you’re getting into Formula One, right? Now it’s time to talk about the superstars of the track – the drivers who make magic happen at crazy speeds. First off, you gotta remember the legends – Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. These guys are like the OGs of F1, setting records and making jaws drop back in the day. Fast forward to now, and it's all about dudes like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Hamilton? The guy's practically F1 royalty with wins that have him rewriting the history books. And Verstappen, he's the young gun giving the vets a run for their money with some insane driving skills.
But hey, it's not just about these two. The grid's packed with talent, from seasoned pros to eager rookies all gunning for that top spot. Each race is their chance to shine, to pull off those heart-stopping moves that have us on the edge of our seats. Remember, in F1, it’s not just the car but the driver that makes all the difference. So, next time you're watching, keep an eye out for these names. They're not just competing; they're putting on a show, making history, and, yeah, maybe causing a little drama along the way. Trust, you don’t wanna miss it.
Race Day: What Goes Down
Yo, picture this - it's race day, and the vibe? Electric. Drivers are all lined up, looking like warriors in their sleek, shiny cars, itching to hit the gas. The moment the lights go out, it's go time. These races? Not for the faint of heart. We're talking edge-of-your-seat action from the jump.
Pit stops become like these mini-dramas – teams hustling to get their driver back on track ASAP, changing tires faster than you can send a text. Strategy? Oh, it's king. Choosing when to pit, what tires to rock, and how to outsmart the competition makes all the difference.
And the overtakes – man, they're like watching a high-speed chess match. Each move is calculated, with drivers pulling off maneuvers that'll have you gasping. One slip, and it's game over. But nail it, and it's glory. Every turn, every straight, it’s all about pushing to the limit while keeping it cool under pressure.
So, when race day hits, throw on your team cap, grab some snacks, and get ready for a rollercoaster of speed, strategy, and straight-up adrenaline. F1 race days? They're the real deal.
The Tech That Fuels the Sport
Alright, buckle up 'cause we're diving into the geeky goodness that is F1 tech. This ain't just about having the fastest car on the track; it's about packing that ride with so much cutting-edge tech, it'd make a rocket scientist do a double take. Picture this: cars so advanced, they're practically from the future. We're talking hybrid power units that squeeze out every drop of power, aerodynamics that could teach a falcon a thing or two, and materials so light yet strong, they seem straight out of a superhero movie.
Teams are out here playing 4D chess with their tech, pouring stacks of cash into R&D to get that edge. It's all about innovation, baby. From software that predicts weather down to the last drop of rain, to tires that grip the track like they're glued down, the tech in F1 is nothing short of mind-blowing. And the best part? Today's bonkers F1 tech could be in your car tomorrow. That's right, this racetrack wizardry trickles down, making your ride smoother, safer, and yeah, cooler. So next time you're watching a race, remember, you're peeking into the future of driving. Ain't that something?
The Drama Off the Track
Oh man, let me tell ya, the drama that unfolds off the track is almost as juicy as the races themselves. Picture this: you've got rivalries that are so intense, they could easily be the plot of a blockbuster movie. Imagine teams throwing shade like it's their job, and drivers getting into it over the smallest things. It’s like, one minute they're all professional, shaking hands on the podium, and the next, they're throwing helmets and words that definitely ain’t PG.
And don’t even get me started on the controversies. From sneaky tech modifications that push the rules to the edge, to strategy calls that have everyone scratching their heads, there's always something brewing. It's like, every race weekend serves up a side of drama that keeps everyone talking long after the checkered flag has waved.
So, if you thought F1 was just about the cars and the speed, think again. The off-track antics add a whole layer of spice that makes following the sport a never-ending rollercoaster of emotions. Whether it's a feud that's been brewing for seasons or a fresh scandal that's just hit the news, there’s always some tea being spilled in the F1 world. And honestly? It’s pretty darn entertaining.
How to Join the F1 Fandom
Jumping into the F1 fandom is like getting an all-access pass to the coolest club out there. First things first, snag yourself a race weekend – check the schedule and clear your calendar. You’re gonna wanna see the action live, trust me. Get comfy and dive into a race; the speed, the strategy, it'll have you at the edge of your seat in no time. Then, hit up the socials – Twitter, Instagram, Reddit – they're your go-to for all the juicy updates, memes, and fan theories. You'll find yourself in the middle of passionate debates and celebrations in no time. And hey, don’t forget to pick a team or a driver to root for – it makes the whole experience even more thrilling. Whether you’re all about the underdogs or the reigning champs, there’s a place for you. So, gear up, and let's get you into the world of F1. It’s more than just racing; it’s a lifestyle.

Clash Magazine Interview - Feb 15, 2024
“Community, Togetherness, Collaboration” FIZZ On ‘The Secret To Life’
Martin Luke Brown, Greta Isaac, Orla Gartland, and the mononymous dodie are each successful singer-songwriters. Just a couple of months ago, Martin released his long-awaited debut album damn, ‘look at the view!’. Last year, Greta released the EP ‘I Think You’d Hate It Here’ – and she also runs a successful enterprise doing art direction for other artists. Among these artists is dodie, who in 2022 achieved the career-long goal of appearing on NPR’s Tiny Desk series, following the release of her critically acclaimed ‘Hot Mess’ EP. Playing guitar with dodie behind the desk was Orla Gartland, whose debut album ‘Woman on the Internet’ took the world by storm in 2021, and whose brand new single ‘Kiss Ur Face Forever’ was released at the start of August.
The curricula vitae of these four musicians are long and impressive. And in June, they announced that they were coming together to form FIZZ, a gaudy, genre-bending supergroup which sounds a little like all of them and nothing like any of them, all at once. Alongside the release of debut single ‘High In Brighton’, the band announced that their debut album would be coming in September – and that its title would be ‘The Secret To Life’.
I had the opportunity to all four cogs in the FIZZ wheel via ZOOM in July, and my first question was a broad one.
“What is the secret to life?”
“That’s what we’re all trying to figure out!” Greta protests.
“For me, the secret to life is finding comfort in absolutely everything,” says dodie.
Orla agrees. “It’s community, togetherness, collaboration,” she adds. “Being in a band but also like…having tea together.”
Greta says that “The secret to life is unwavering commitment to carrying on,” while Martin’s answer adds a touch of whimsy to proceedings. “It’s playing Rocket League, with the boys standing next to me,” he says, quoting a track from the upcoming album.
I ask the band if it was scary to come together as FIZZ.
“I think everything is scary!” says dodie.
“Relate!” says Greta, “I haven’t left my house in days!”
“We promised ourselves we would leave our egos at the door when making this album and there was something so unfamiliar about that,” dodie adds. “It was scary and difficult – and it still is – but at the same time it’s so rewarding.”
What I hear on ‘The Secret To Life’ is four egos in a room managing to co-exist, and when I share this with Greta, it seems to resonate.
“We have to remember that we made the album and all of our voices are equal and that shows up in the tiniest places. The best decisions are made when we each have our voices heard.”
“It’s an honour to rock out with you guys,” Orla adds, in an ironic, self-effacing American accent. The band bursts into laughter, and I get a little peek into what it might have been like in the studio during the making of the album.
The consensus among the band seems to be that it’s felt refreshing to leave introspection behind. Martin points out that dodie – known elsewhere for the quietness of her vocals – is screaming on this album. Martin himself meanwhile has gone from ruminating on masculinity on his debut to “banging on his chest and taking up space” here.
I ask Martin how it feels to be the “token man” in the band, and he says that during their Latitude set, an older couple had asked his pronouns, thanks no doubt to his flamboyant stage outfit.
“I’m a straight man,” he says “But I felt so touched by someone of that generation asking that. It felt so humbling. Growing up, I was quite flamboyant naturally.”
“It’s a slippery slope, Martin,” I warn him, citing my own experience as a trans woman.
“Welcome!” the rest of the band jokes.
“Something I’m very conscious of is that our audiences are quite gay,” Martin says, pointing to dodie and Orla in particular. “And I wanna respect that and exist in that environment in a way that feels me and not like I’m pretending.”
At risk of making a lofty comparison, I tell the band that the album reminded me of ‘Sgt. Pepper…’ by The Beatles. I ask the band whether they feel as though they’re playing characters on the record – and if so, who those characters are.
“We’re elevated versions of ourselves,” says Orla. “and pushing each other to be more out-there”.
“We’ve relinquished expectations of what we should be making and how we should be presenting,” says Greta. “It was a realisation of what we’re craving in our own artist projects, which was explosive, uncompromising joy.”
I ask the band if the joy of the album is all real, or if there’s something bleak being played on here. Is ‘The Secret to Life’ an attempt to escape from a pervasive sense of existential dread?
“That’s spookily like something we’ve said before,” says Orla. “That really we’re adults playing dress up and trying to re-ignite the joy in life.”
“It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows,” says Greta. “There’s this mesh between youth and adulthood that’s complicated and messy.”
“I will say that the whole process has genuinely been unadulterated joy,” offers Martin, placing a reassuring hand on Greta’s shoulder. “There really hasn’t been any kind of weird ulterior motive. Whenever I speak to other artists, everyone’s moaning about TikTok and how hard you have to work as a musician. It’s a slog – and for a lot of people, the shine of it has just worn off. I think the novelty of being a musician isn’t enough to keep you smiling anymore. Starting a band and doing an album like this is a response to ten years in the industry. It’s joy that’s come from pain.”
I suggest that listeners might share the band’s pain here, especially in the political climate of 2023. It feels as though FIZZ is the music people are reaching for.
“I feel like I’m chronically afraid of the world,” adds Greta, laughing through gritted teeth. “And getting to create FIZZ was an escape from all of that, but naturally a fear of life creeps into it as well. I would hope it would offer comfort and validation when you need it,” Greta agrees.
When I cheekily ask about the album’s lead single ‘High in Brighton’ and what it might be about, Martin tells me it’s all about paragliding.
“If you do go paragliding or ride the zip line in Brighton,” Greta says with a wink, “then make sure you do it with people you feel safe with and trust – and check in that you’re ready to go paragliding.”
“Maybe just have a good time before the FIZZ gig,” Martin advises cryptically.
The production on the album is busy, deliberately messy, and full of countless little exciting details. I’m interested to know when and how the band – and producer Pete Miles – knew when to stop.
“Pete tells us when to stop,” says Martin with a smile. “He has a holistic approach to everything. Pete is a bit of a wizard and he sets us up as primary school kids and encourages us to just run around making noise. Then it felt like we would just get tired, and Pete would be like – that’s it.”
At this point in our conversation – which is happening over ZOOM – Martin silently leaves the room to have a wee. The rest of the band apologises, and I tell them it’s okay because I can’t hear him. “We can,” they say in chorus.
Conversation turns to the latest single ‘As Good As It Gets’, on which Greta takes the lead vocal. She says she turned up to the studio upset and stressed that day, and tapped into “a voice I didn’t know I had”.
“I don’t mean a singing voice,” she clarifies, “I mean the bravery of just going for it. We probably wouldn’t have been able to sing that way if we hadn’t felt that pain. That’s what’s so special about this band. Our fears and our vulnerability and our pain is given a function and a meaning. I was so grateful for that day.”
“For all the convoluted things that this job can be,” says Orla, “taking what you feel and processing it through song is the reason I got into this. It feels like 2% of what we do sometimes, but it’s still its core for me. To me, that’s the whole reason for doing music, and there’s so much of that on this album.”
“I love writing with you guys,” adds dodie. “Our whole ethos with FIZZ is to get rid of the restraints – and we’re such fans of each other that we said yes to everything, which makes the songs so maximalist but so interesting and so fun. If I could take away everything else, I would just wanna write with you forever.”
dodie’s words here are the sort of sentiment that would normally inspire a moment’s reflection, or hugs and thank yous. But in FIZZ, they go unremarked upon. The band just carries on talking about something else. And that’s not to say they don’t appreciate dodie’s words – far from it. It’s just that FIZZ has fostered a culture where the magic of collaboration is constantly acknowledged, love and friendship are constantly upheld, and celebration doesn’t just happen on special occasions. Maybe that – at the end of it all – is ‘The Secret to Life’.

Pocket Monsters Best Wishes Season 2 Missing Chapter: Reshiram VS Zekrom!
Tumblr media
With so much buzz going around about the lost chapter(s) of the Best Wishes! series having been uncovered, I felt in the mood to do a post about the missing chapter(s) of the Unova Saga, and I call these  “missing” because unlike Team Rocket VS Team Plasma!, they never existed. They were never planned, never written, never animated, voiced, or scored, straight up never concieved as episodes even when they would’ve been a natural fit for the originally intended longer runtime for Unova’s Post-League arc, and could’ve served as an extended grand finale for not just that arc but for the entire Unova Saga. I already wrote about it a bit here, but I felt like this warranted further elaboration on how such an event would play out, in the style of an authentic PokeAni two-parter penned by Atsuhiro Tomioka!
Oh, and this is just fast-going cliff notes, so you’re probably going to want to read this in Johnny Bravo’s voice.
PREVIOUSLY ON POKEMON BEST WISHES SEASON 2:
Tumblr media
So in the previous episode, Charizard was fighting Reshiram at the White Ruins when Reshiram was under the effect of the Pokemon Control Device, making it a mindless slave to the evil Team Plasma.
Tumblr media
Colress put Pikachu under the device’s control for the third time, but this time Pikachu’s heart didn’t waver even while under mind control, and its heart and Reshiram’s had an exchange via Pikachu’s shocks.
Tumblr media
So Pikachu used Electro Ball at the same time Reshiram launched a Fusion Flare, both attacks directed at the Pokemon Control Device.
Tumblr media
The device went KABLOOIE and got all busted up!
Tumblr media
Colress was mortified, like how could this have happened?
Tumblr media
But when Reshiram shook off the mind control, it was furious!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Colress realized it was surpassing what he’d believed was its maximum strength potential that had been raised by the device.
Tumblr media
Reshiram then fired a bunch of blue fire blasts down upon the ruins!
Tumblr media
And then it took off into the sky, headed towards Dragonspiral Tower!
Tumblr media
That episode ended with Reshiram perching at the top of the tower, with N believing that it was readying to raze the whole dang region!
TRUTH & IDEALS MEET! RESHIRAM VS ZEKROM! PART 1:
Tumblr media
So that Ghetsis guy starts laughing madly at the turn of events, and he says he’d already prepared for this possible eventuality. He raises up his staff-cane thingy and it glows, sending some kind of signal.
Tumblr media
From the east comes a flying sail barge, the result of Team Plasma’s  “Project F” - the Flying Freeze Frigate! A cannon at the bow of the ship is loaded with Never-Melt Ice from East Unova’s Frozen Ruins.
Tumblr media
Team Plasma boards the Frigate, declaring they’ll get Reshiram yet!
Tumblr media
Colress and his grunt squad are in charge of manning the cannon, while above deck Ghetsis is steering the thing with his cane-wheel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those two surrogate sisters of N’s are worried about Reshiram, while Looker and Team Rocket are more concerned with the Plasma guys.
Tumblr media
Our heroes split up, with Ash, Cilan, Iris, N, and Papa Juniper taking higher ground in order to reach that tower as fast as they can!
Tumblr media
Reshiram is powering up on top of the tower, but hasn’t attacked yet.
Tumblr media
As Hero of Truth, N tries to talk Reshiram down. Seems to be wor…
Tumblr media
OOF! Reshiram is zapped from behind by Team Plasma’s flying ship!
Tumblr media
That evil Lord Ghetsis guy smugly proclaims that the last remnant of Colress’ Pokemon mind control technology is embedded in his cane!
Tumblr media
Unfortunately it’s the prototype tech that just sends Reshiram into a wild frenzy as it takes off from the tower at full speed and strength!
Tumblr media
This don’t seem to bother Colress, who says he’ll enjoy the hunt.
Tumblr media
So Team Plasma pursues Reshiram, hoping to freeze it in place!
Tumblr media
But back on the tower, Papa Juniper remembers oh yeah, he got the Golden Dark Stone and just so happened to be carrying it with him!
Tumblr media
After collapses and uproars, the Golden Dark Stone’s given to Ash.
Tumblr media
The stone recognizes Ash and Pikachu as Heroes with ideals worthy of Zekrom’s presence, so it summons Zekrom to their location!
[Cut to commercials]
Tumblr media
We see this dark dragon with glowing blue eye gradually emerging from the storm clouds as lightning flashes like in BW01.
Tumblr media
And there it is! It’s the one and only bona-fide Zekrom!
Tumblr media
With a mighty roar, Zekrom charges up and takes off after Reshiram!
Tumblr media
Ghetsis can tell from the lightning storm that Zekrom has appeared.
Tumblr media
Oh! Zekrom caught up with Reshiram and is now trying to steer it right again. They’re over the Moor of Icirrus right now, by the way.
Tumblr media
Uh oh! Team Plasma’s flying ship comes in and is firing its freeze ray!
Tumblr media
Ash, Pikachu, and N are on Charizard while Iris, Cilan, and Papa Juniper are on Dragonite, and they fly over to the Frigate to stop it!
Tumblr media
But it looks like those Plasma grunts on deck were ready for them!
Tumblr media
And once again, the Plasma Liepards go on the offensive!
Tumblr media
They even bring out the big guns, like this Metagross!
Tumblr media
Team Rocket shows up on their jet packs, looking to settle the score!
Tumblr media
Colress notes that Reshiram and Zekrom seem unable to come to any sort of compromise, and so they’ve started duking it out!
Tumblr media
An uncreasingly unhinged Ghetsis vows that both Legendary Dragon Pokemon will be his, and with them, so shall the Unova region!
Tumblr media
And here’s where we end Part 1, with the big fight in full swing!
TRUTH & IDEALS MEET! RESHIRAM VS ZEKROM! PART 2:
Tumblr media
So Team Plasma’s Pokemon are engaged in all-out warfare!
Tumblr media
And there are lots of EXPLOSIONS! BA-KOOM!
Tumblr media
Back with the Dragon battle, Zekrom raises its power to the max!
Tumblr media
Distressingly, Reshiram’s fire power and Zekrom’s lightning go together like flames to gasoline, creating randomized destruction!
Tumblr media
Over in the Village of Dragons, the Elder and Drayden can feel it.
Tumblr media
And so can Champion Alder and his new protege in the nearby city.
Tumblr media
Back at the flying Frigate, Ghetsis opens up a hatch door to release his trump card - a Hydreigon with enhanced strength and brutality!
Tumblr media
Iris’ Dragonite recognizes this particular Hydreigon and is enraged!
Tumblr media
Dragonite and Charizard tag team against the enhanced Hydreigon.
Tumblr media
Team Rocket has Woobat and Yamask come in to help them out!
Tumblr media
But of course, it’s Dragonite who ends up landing the finishing blow!
[Cut to commercials]
Tumblr media
At this point, Reshiram and Zekrom’s fight has moved further down from Iccirus, somewhere close to Entralink.
Tumblr media
Colress is tired and frustrated now, wanting to put out all the stops!
Tumblr media
The moment of Truth and Ideals arrives - Pikachu can feel Zekrom’s power resonating with it once again, so it sends some of its own super-charged electrical energy back to Zekrom!
Tumblr media
Embued with extra strength, Zekrom lets out a large burst of power!
Tumblr media
Which not only strikes down Reshiram but hurtles right towards Team Plasma’s Frigate just as all our heroes have gotten out of dodge!
Tumblr media
Team Plasma ain’t so lucky, as they get hit by it at full force!
Tumblr media
Ghetsis furiously raves about how all his plans are shot, literally!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Team Plasma goes down with their ship.
Tumblr media
And considering its work done, Zekrom departs above the clouds.
Tumblr media
But Reshiram is still around, and from the look of it, still angry!
Tumblr media
But what’s this? N steps forward to give Reshiram a good talking to!
Tumblr media
And Reshiram actually seems willing to hear him out.
Tumblr media
Team Plasma emerges from the wreckage of their Frigate. Ghetsis tries to use his cane, but the tech inside it has gone totally defective.
Tumblr media
Ghetsis is breaking down as his loyal grunts say they need to retreat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Ash, Iris, and Cilan don’t allow them the chance to do so!
Tumblr media
With Team Plasma out of the way, N continues his heart to heart.
Tumblr media
He passionately says big words to convey the truth he’s found.
Tumblr media
And Reshiram responds with approval. He is the Hero of Truth!
Tumblr media
With that, Reshiram too departs back above the clouds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
N tells his sisters he wants to continue travelling Unova with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later that afternoon, the police come take Team Plasma into custody.
Tumblr media
Looker gives Ash and Pikachu his thanks for another job well done.
Tumblr media
Papa Juniper is distraught over the loss of the Light Stone.
Tumblr media
Until his team find him and tell him of new discoveries elsewhere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Team Rocket flees the scene, glad to have once again witnessed what makes Ash’s Pikachu such a special Pikachu for them to nab.
Tumblr media
Before he leaves with his sisters, N says his goodbye to Ash, Iris, and Cilan, precious and important friends who’ve changed his life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Through a meeting of Truth and Ideals, Unova has been protected.
Tumblr media
As the journey continues and stuff! Oh wow, that was something!
