Nagi Rokuya i7 Roman Rabbit Chat Part 3: Let's Play In Panda Nameco Village
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4 | Part 5
Nagi: Tsumugi... I experienced a terrible fright today. Please comfort me.
Tsumugi: Nagi-san! What's wrong..? You visited Panda Nameco Village today, didn't you.
Nagi: The park was kind enough to have all of the staff working their positions, so was planning on a fun tour of the park, but alas
Nagi: I lost in rock-paper-scissors, and had to go into the haunted house! If I absolutely must go there, I would prefer it to be with the ever so reliable Sogo and Mitsuki!
Tsumugi: I heard about some of it from Iori-san >< You went with him and Tamaki-san, instead!
Nagi: YES. I was planning to handle it better than Tamaki, but his constant screaming infected me with his dread, making it a miserable time for both of us X-((((((((
Tsumugi: But couldn't you count on Iori-san? It doesn't seem like he was very scared.
Nagi: He did boast about how hard it was to be scared when you knew there were regular humans behind all of it, but the shivering of his shoulders was plain for all to see. All those puppets were traumatizing ;-((
Nagi: As we marched into battle, Riku told us "There's only good ghosts here, so you should be okay!", with an innocent smile on his face. It caused us great damage.
Tsumugi: Riku-san seems to be good with the supernatural... ><
Nagi: Tamaki responded with "There's no bad or good ghosts, they're all scary, I can't, no way". He was having an even harder time articulating than usual.
Tsumugi: Tamaki-san...
Nagi: All he and I could do was cling to Iori.
Nagi: Iori dragged us forward, saying things like "You two are hopeless (;`・~・´)". Thinking back on it, the way Iori led us into battle, even as his shoulders trembled, may prove that he was the most reliable man of us all.
Tsumugi: Iori-san tends to strive for compromises, and he doesn't complain much...
Nagi: It is possible that even when he was our temporary center, he was trembling as he stood at the front of the stage.
Tsumugi: Right. Iori-san really did save us that time...
Nagi: Perhaps he takes after Mitsuki in that respect. I envy them for having such a great sibling relationship.
Nagi: Mitsuki must have felt proud as he watched Iori do it all, as well :-)
Tsumugi: So not only did you have a fun time in Panda Nameco Village, it also lead you to a wonderful new discovery..!
Nagi: Yes indeed. I am very happy that all of us got to go together.
Choices/outcomes:
1. How did everyone else react when you came out of the haunted house?
Nagi: Sogo seemed concerned, but Yamato laughed in our sweat-drenched faces and took pictures. That was when I resolved to take revenge by taking a picture of him as he dozes off drooling somewhere.
2. You and Tamaki-san did great in there.
Nagi: To celebrate our victory, I took a bath with my brother in arms. Trying to fit the tallest members of IDOLiSH7 in the same bathtub was as difficult as one might expect X-> But no one else needs to know that we spilled half the bathwater on the floor, and got scolded by Mitsuki for it.
3. Which was the most fun about Panda Nameco Village?
Nagi: It would have to be the accurate way in which they reproduced the atmosphere of the Taisho era. I would like to visit it again in private, disguised of course. I wonder if I would be allowed to walk around in traditional Japanese clothing... X-))
Nagi: We were given keychains of the park's mascot character as a gift. There is one for you as well, would you like to have it?
Tsumugi: Thank you, it was really nice of you to get me one..! I'll look forward to it.
Nagi: It is a panda, and yet a nameko mushroom grows out of its head. it resembles the sort of strange characters that Sogo creates.
Tsumugi: I'm not very good at drawing either, so I can relate...
Nagi: That is a part of your charm, Tsumugi. I shall make Sogo draw this character next. I am curious of how his copies of other drawings look...
Tsumugi: Does that mascot character have arms and legs?
Nagi: Yes. Though rather than being realistic, they are more akin to King Pudding's.
Tsumugi: It seems like Sogo-san has a... habit? Of always drawing limbs as realistic as possible...
Nagi: That is true. Even his King Pudding looks like it would scuttle around, like one of the cockroaches that I detest...
Nagi: Stay tuned for more updates, Tsumugi.
Tsumugi: I'm getting nervous now... You're a good artist, aren't you?
Nagi: Due to my mother's influence, it is a culture I have been immersed in ever since I was a child. Riku is quite good, as well.
Tsumugi: Riku-san's drawings are very cute!
Nagi: He once drew a portrait of Iori. Then he drew hearts all around him, which resulted in an adorable image.
Nagi: When I asked why he drew the hearts, he responded that the picture was of "Iori when he's eating one of the sweets Mitsuki makes". The specificity of the situation he drew is no doubt thanks to his observational skills.
Nagi: I think I will ask him to draw me, drawing Cocona. Then I will make it into my profile picture :-D
Tsumugi: That sounds great..! I look forward to seeing it!

文法:マシ(Preferable)
増し, often written as マシ or まし, is a な-adjective that carries the meaning “better, preferable, less objectionable.” It’s almost the same meaning as 良い, good, except it’s not necessarily a good thing in and of itself... it’s just better than the alternative. Some uses include:
(〜は)まだマシだ → ~ is still better (than ___ )
「いやだ。今日の給食はなめこだ。」 「まだマシだ。先週は中華ホヤスープだった。」 “Yuck. Today’s school lunch is nameko.” “Could be worse. Last week was sea squirt soup.”
(short form) + だけまし → just ~ is better (than the opposite)

あんたはその娘さん…生きてるだけマシですよ あんなになったってね Your daughter... At least she’s still alive. Even if she ended up like that.
(『デッドマンワンダーランド』 Deadman Wonderland, vol. 8 by Kataoka Jinsei and Kondou Kazuma) (Image credit: @origami10)
J-Rock Examples:
知らぬが仏の方がまだマシだ I don’t know, but I bet being dead is better. [キュウソウネコカミ - NO MORE 劣化実写化]
