The problem with Roblox's username filter
Whether you are a first time gamer or a tech savvy individual, you should know by now that maliciously bypassing certain filters is dangerously easy these days, especially on the most well known gaming platform. While it is a scourge plaguing many other platforms, like X (Twitter), Discord, and Facebook, it has become a huge problem especially in gaming platforms. However, whenever Roblox bans one account, more of such accounts violating their community standards pop up. This is a common problem with condo games, scams, and even, as the title suggests, inappropriate usernames.
NOTE: This is not from a legal representative or any associated companies. It's a blog post informing users about the current state of the filter. The tag #legal is to get the attention of legal experts who believe in the safety of the platform.
Reader's discretion is highly advised.
While this is not technically their issue, it stands to be a safety concern for not only parents who have kids, but also big companies who care about safety more than Roblox.

As you can see, there are Roblox accounts with usernames that get past the filter. These accounts are known for their abuse of the usernames ranging from simply unsafe to absolutely illegal, prompting a class action lawsuit against Roblox due to its misrepresentation of safety. However, the actual experience is anything except that.
This is not the only problem with the filters intended to block profanity. There are other bypasses that include Discord invite codes, sensitive details about real people, sexually explicit names, partial links to malicious sites, and others. As shown in the screenshot above, the usernames are not the only parts of the website filter that are breaching the safety of the platform. As you can see, thumbnails and images are also a huge problem, which is explained by the Favorites section of some of the profiles' pages.
David Bazuski, CEO of Roblox, has mentioned in the Roblox Developer Conference that they would age up the platform. However, he also announced that Roblox was working on improving the moderation filter by adding more tools for creators as well as improving the precision and transparency of moderation. The opposite was proven by the following post showing an account with a rather suggestive username.

As stated in this tweet, some of these usernames are not only suggestive, but can be considered highly illegal. You would have to be such a sick minded psychopath to create such a username.
While it is rather serious, not very many content creators are discussing this, despite how serious a safety issue it is. One can only hope that the company comes to their senses and makes a decision to disable creation of accounts like before, but even that has not occurred yet.

ppl keep saying the internet in the 90s/2000s was trash because it was full of nonsense but atleast there were WEBSITES.... all that's left online is social media and shopping and even the social media does nothing but advertise to you you can barely play any games in browser, especially mini games now they all want you to download the game because they're all longform and 1GB or above, no ask jeeves no yahoo answers no places for kids to hang out all day apart from like. Roblox (which you have to install..... and neopets is used by 20 yr olds no kids are playing on neopets) blogs now being mostly video based instead of written, phones being ppls primary source of entertainment so you are constantly being asked to download a app, Adobe flash gone so any flash based sites are gone and not even way back machine can bring them back unless u get a flash emulator

i feel like shadow had formed an attraction to sonic around the time of them turning super to defeat the biolizard, even though he didn't know it at the time. how sonic carried himself, his silent confidence and strength, and just the raw energy he had captivated shadow in ways he didn't understand.
but in terms of actually falling in love, i've always considered it to be in much less dangerous moments, more of the mundane, slow kind, like going for a walk together or sitting under a tree. i think shadow would realize, in those times, how much sonic actually means to him.
( personally, i think '06 would have one of those times where they just sit down and take everything in )
for sonic, it's a gradual thing. at first, he's simply interested in getting to know shadow and understanding him more, but respects that shadow might not want that ( he does ), so keeps his distance.
i get why people have it so sonic initiates their friendship, but i feel like shadow would, too. because he wants to know and understand sonic as well.
overtime, sonic learns about shadow's past, what he likes, what he doesn't like, and shadow gets to learn the same ( though, strangely, it's a little harder to get out of the blue hedgehog than he expected ), and they form a connection that maybe no one else but them can fully understand.
and it's only when that connection is formed that sonic develops feelings for shadow and falls in love, too.
i personally don't have the idea they're rivals post-SA2, since i think it defeats the whole point of shadow realizing what being the ultimate lifeform actually is and how he sees sonic, and the point of them setting aside their egos to protect the things that matter.
( that and, honestly, the fandom has kinda made them being rivals a sour note for me. for a lot of reasons. )
so, all and all, my personal hc of sonadow ( in most of the games // media ) is that they're enemies to allies to friends to best friends to lovers, includes shadow simping. slow burn, baby.

Ppl will complain about Pressure updates and devs while forgetting Pressure is NEW.
Ik tumblr has more users with common sense but the amount of tiktoks and tt users say that the game was at its PEAK two weeks after the game's release just bc you could climb Sebastian, he wasn't (visibly) married (it was always written into his character), and tolerated the players slightly more is INSANE.
Most games, at that, aren't at its peak gameplay and story a month after release!!
"The anti-climbing mechanic doesn't even fix anything!" Yeah because you climbed Sebastian several times over ofc at SOME point you're gonna get softlocked bro. Maybe try playing pressure for a reason aside from harassing seb.
I genuinely feel like the pressure fanbase tend to forget that Pressure is from roblox programmers in a small developing group. This isn't Hoyoverse or DevSisters where the game is fully polished with information on all characters and a finalized world building upon release because the company has more time, money, and skilled labor to develop that. It was made in ~1 year and a rushed release.
Not only that, but Pressure is a passion-project. It isn't driven by money, which means there's not much of an incentive to please the playerbase with fan service content that changes lore/characters so people can buy it. (Fan service as in any content made to make ppl happy) So, developers are going to choose what they want to do with the game bc they don't care whether or not you play. Zeal said so first thing in his interview with Breadian.
Amazing features that enrich gameplay and world building such as Sebastian killing walldwellers and the DiVine being able to kill you, Navi-AI turning into a new character, and several new room types are hinted to come to Pressure but nooo!!! Its somehow cooked and unsavable because of ONE form of characterization YOU deem incorrect not even knowing the character's lore. Right.
Edit: Pressure has a future as a roblox game that values storytelling and immersing the user in it's world. We need rblx games like it that put work over profit so people stay on the platform. Especially when older and new games have become money hungry over time.
Its really crazy how people be biting the hand that feeds them. Seb could easily be replaced with an expendable or unknown void like jeffery as a merchant npc if this continues. Online users will really be out her acting like the person who wrote and designed their favorite character is all of a sudden BAD!! And their favorite character is RUINED!!! This includes racial diversity, disability, size, and more. On November 15, the personal care brand announced the release of Code My Crown with Open Source Afro Hair Library.
Code My Crown is a free 226-page PDF guide and collection of assets for recreating textured hair and protective styles in games. Led by game designer/professor A.M. Darke, celebrity stylist NAi’Vasha Grace, and 3D artists Isaac Olander, the project aligns with the OSAHL mission to “radically expand” Black hair representation on screen and the opportunities for Black creators.

hi! I'm in a Discord for a Roblox rhythm game (Rap Ability Test), and someone asked if "I WON'T LET YOU GO HOME" could be charted and playable. I would also like to extend this question with regards to the rest of the soundtrack, but understand if only select songs would be permitted for this. since I make some community charts for the game, I wanted to look around and see if there's been a precedent set, and I found this ask that you answered a few months ago:

since I imagine a Taiko client would need the songs to be downloadable to be played, and Roblox games handle things through online servers instead of direct downloads, I wanted to reach out on that person's behalf and ask if you would be okay with this. the game itself is free, has some gacha systems for cosmetic items separate from the core gameplay, and has a dedicated subsection of its songlist for community-made charts. if you let the community chart the soundtrack, it would be in that community chart section and not the main song list; furthermore, the song menu allows the devs to link back to social media accounts directly to credit the composers, and their name appears when a player starts the song as well.
while charters would need to use a file for the song to make charts, the music would not be downloadable once added in-game. I am not directly affiliated with the dev team behind the game, but community charters are expected to get permission for the songs they chart themselves, and since I don't know if the person who asked has a Tumblr, I figured I would send an ask about this while I was looking. the game can be found here, if you would like to vet it before answering:

Unfortunately it's going to be a no, simply because of licensing issues. Giving Roblox license to distribute our work even in a limited capacity, without a formal licensing agreement between us, isn't something that we feel comfortable doing.
Like you pointed out, this isn't the first time we've gotten an ask like this, and we've even had other developers reach out to us privately for similar requests. We are HUGE fans of rhythm games here at the studio and would love to make something like this a reality, so we're going to propose a few solutions here:
If any company involved in a rhythm game would like to reach out in an official capacity to license the rights to the ISAT OST we would be happy to have that conversation, pending approval of the author @insertdisc5 .
If that doesn't work out we would actually love to write original music for a rhythm game, again pending formal licensing from the dev/distributor.
We can invest in creating a free album specifically designed for rhythm games if there is an interest and enough community support, assuming the other options don't pan out.

(OC: Neris)
Why yes I did make an OC for Pressure of all things (y'know, the Roblox game with all the fish in it)
I honestly had plenty of fun designing her and her lore, so here's some stuff about her:
Neris is a former human similar to Sebastian Solace, but they came to their current predicament under different circumstances. Neris was originally a researcher at the Urbanshade Company who was known for having a diplomatic personality. She had willingly been experimented on to try to create a person with abilities that made them more suitable for studying life in the Arctic seas up close, but sometime after experimentation, Neris developed interests beyond research that lead to her defecting to the company for her own horrific plans, eventually leading to her imprisonment in the Hadal Blacksite.
Neris is/was a human of Icelandic and Greenlandic decent, and she was specifically born in Nuuk, Greenland. However, what name she had before she became the fearsome sea monster she is now is unknown.
Some of Neris' favorite things include aquatic life, spectrography, whale watching, and the faces of humans in terror.
Some of Neris' dislikes include penguins, bright lights, and eating vegetables (she can still like vegetables aesthetically, though)
Neris holds a certain bitterness towards Sebastian Solace. The exact reason for her animosity is unknown, but she views Sebastian as being an "arrogant brat".
Neris' favorite food is whale meat, much to Sebastian's horror and disgust.
Neris' primary ability is being able to shapeshift to mimic anyone or anything she has seen before, whether they be living beings or inanimate objects, as well as being able to copy voices and sounds. Her mimicry is uncannily convincing, but it does have some minor flaws. For example, she will still have a heartbeat if she mimics an inanimate object, and her mimicry can falter if her mind is disrupted by something like a very bright light.
Neris' blood is a vibrant blue color. This is the only aspect of her form that she is unable to change in any way.
Neris possesses an arrogant and manipulative nature, and is not to be trusted. She considers herself to be the "queen" of the Hadal Blacksite, even if she technically has little actual authority there.
Neris' natural form has a mermaid-like appearance, possessing a shape similar to a human woman, but having a whale's tail and a head of "hair" that is made of prehensile tentacles. However, she can also turn her whale tail into legs in order to traverse land more easily.
Neris is talented at singing, and even possesses perfect pitch.
Neris possesses both lungs and gills. However, her gills tend to be obscured by her tentacles.
Neris holds a friendly relationship with the Anglers. She finds them cute and holds a motherly disposition towards them. She's also friendly with Eyefestation for similar reasons, and she will even try to play games with it (Thankfully, Neris is largely immune to the damage caused by Eyefestation's eyes).

My Thesis
Comedy is a fascinating game genre. Although video games as a medium have gone through a big shift the comedy genre is a standout that reeks of other media forms. Here I intend to examine comedy as a video game genre and explain my thoughts.
When asking about comedy games and when thinking about it myself Portal 2 is almost universally the first answer, and its easy to see why. Portal 2 is a game with excellent writing that understands comedic timing and sensibilities. My huge issue is that it feels like a comedy in the same way a movie does. The game will tell jokes to you. Most of the most memorable lines happen when you have basically no control over the character. Like in the pit fall, or the part where he kills you. Portal 2's gameplay has nothing to do with the comedy because its a puzzle game. Nothing you do as a player has any real impact on the comedy. Portal 2 really is a puzzle game that dispenses comedy for puzzle completion. Games are an interactive medium, and so comedy games should have the player as an active participant in the comedy. Portal 2 can be neatly broken up into a comedy phase and a puzzle solving phase, and they rarely overlap.
After portal 2 my brain was left to wander again. My second impulse for a comedy game was the Hitman trilogy. While I don't think its actually a comedy game it has elements that are important to comedy the game genre that I feel are worthy of discussion. First off hitman is kind of a sandbox. In hitman you enter a level and must kill the target in whatever way you wish before you can leave. The amount of freedom given to the player allows the games comedic elements to shine, and the number of tools you have access to that allow you to interact with the world are insane. The levels themselves are stuffed full of intractable and grabbable items that give you even more freedom in execution. All of these elements work together and makes the punchline feel like the player's work. Second off Hitman is just fundamentally kind of goofy. When you think about it agent 47 is a little freak who stashes everything he can get his hands on into his pockets and leaves a trail of half naked victims everywhere he hits. The developers lead into this fact also. With challenges encouraging you to go around killing in a goofy costume and such. Third, Hitman is not a perfect game. Although these games are insanely well polished there is nothing a developer can do to fix everything. Sometimes a ragdoll will glitch out and be sent into the skybox or an item will just roll away. Glitches are almost universally funny. Especially in a high tension game like the hitman series. Nothing hits the funnybone harder then a high tension moment being cut into by the unexpected. although this all sounds great for hitman I still don't fully count it as a comedy game. At it's core it's a stealth action game with shooter elements. The comedy elements are leaned into sure but that's not why you boot up hitman. After considering the past 2 options I was left to ponder, are there any true comedy games. And as I sat there pondering the impossible a horrible reality dawned on me. There is a comedy game, Roblox. Listen I know this is a hard point to argue but hear me out. Roblox has every element a good comedy game should have. A sandbox environment, a general lack of polish, user created content, it's got it all. To the common man roblox may look like an endless cesspit of slop type games but the enlightened know roblox for what it really is, an endless expanse of 0 player games with no quality control that just get funnier the further down you travel. Maybe im just biased but roblox has the perfect mix of unexplainable bullshit and instances where your action leads to a funny moment. Roblox I feel is the comedy game.
Ok so most of this was written before the lethal company/multiplayer horror comedy game boom happened. originally this ended with a note about how no game has really hit what makes a good comedy game but with new perspective I think this is the beginning of a genre. Lethal Company and such games get their comedy from other players. If you play lethal company alone it becomes a genuinely stressful horror game. Do other people make a game a comedy game? Not intrinsically, I can play stardew valley with a friend for 8 hours and that is all business all the time. It's on the game to open people up to the comedy.

A general update and some progress from a few weeks ago of the player model for CWD, just need to finish the body and head now... On that note I haven't been posting much at all recently, I've been busy but also dealing with the after effects of Covid again.. I've been working on someone else's VN game in Godot for a bit and recently got a request to work on modelling for a friends Roblox game? Gamemode? I don't really understand Roblox tbh. On top of all this I'm part of a start up company now and my past year or so of Unity Development is now Null and useless aside from asset production.. Busy, fatigued and depressed, a lovely mix of feeling like shit.. Anyways the point is I am alive and there is stuff going on it might just be less of my own personal work so I'd need permission to share it on my own blog. I'll probably look through my WIP folders as I do still save a lot of stuff I think looks cool to share so hopefully I have some backlog??

Recap: SEGA and Rovio still in the “dating” process, SEGA exec says at RovioCon 2023
SEGA's transmedia president Shuji Utsumi took to the stage at RovioCon, a gathering for all Rovio developers and partners in Helsinki, Finland, and gave hints on SEGA and Rovio’s future collaboration plans.
He was approached with the idea of future Angry Birds and Sonic crossovers, a detail sure to fuel fan speculation; and revealed SEGA's ambition to offer more on game subscription services like Apple Arcade, even though Sonic Dream Team’s Apple Arcade exclusivity was not positively received by some fans.
Future crossovers
Utsumi was asked about a possible crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds, SEGA and Rovio’s biggest franchises. While not giving a specific answer, he joked that the two companies were still “dating”, with the comment being met with laughs from the audience.
Longtime fans of the Sonic franchise might remember a past Angry Birds crossover, namely the Sonic Dash and Angry Birds Epic crossover event from 2015. Utsumi also revealed that SEGA and Rovio were working together to produce new animated projects for Angry Birds, and to bring future Rovio games to PC and consoles.
Transmedia ambitions
Referencing the success of the Sonic movies, Utsumi reaffirmed SEGA’s ambition towards bringing it and Rovio’s franchises out of the gaming sphere, adding that the company was “deeply committed to Angry Birds animated projects in the future”.
SEGA has a strong portfolio of numerous IPs and characters which become much more attractive by welcoming the Angry Birds IP. To maximize the value of these great IPs we have implemented a transmedia strategy which comprehensively approaches a global fanbase through digital and also physical channels.
Moving towards mobile and other game platforms
Currently, SEGA and Rovio have been working on new mobile game projects based on [each companies’] own IP…but Sonic is not the only IP [that could] benefit from the mobile platform expansion. It will be a potential strong tailwind for other key SEGA IP such as Yakuza and Persona.
While SEGA’s console and PC games will still be here to stay, Utsumi commented that mobile was a “massive platform” for the company, with SEGA looking to leverage Rovio’s talent to bring its franchises into the mobile gaming scene.
Utsumi also commented that SEGA would be putting out more offerings on subscription-based game services like Apple Arcade and Netflix Games, and on creation platforms like Roblox.
The metaverse & SEGA’s Super Game
Utsumi briefly talked about SEGA’s Super Game initiative at the RovioCon panel, revealing that it could take the shape of a platform where players can play and communicate with each other, possibly in a way similar to the Roblox platform.

In March 2007, Roblox became compliant with COPPA through the addition of safe chat, a change that limited the communication ability of users under the age of 13 by restricting them to selecting predefined messages from a menu. In August, Roblox applied server improvements and released a premium membership service named "Builders Club", which was rebranded as Roblox Premium in September 2019. In December 2011, Roblox held its first Hack Week, an annual event where Roblox developers work on outside-the-box ideas for new developments to present to the company. On December 11, 2012, an iOS version of Roblox was released. On October 1, 2013, Roblox released its Developer Exchange program, allowing developers to exchange Robux earned from their games into real-world currencies.
