Got on a 40K kick so I listened to the audiobook version of The Infinite and The Divine.
This is toxic old man yaoi but the old men who hate each other to the point of obsession are robot skeletons who are millions of years old.
10/10, it actually got me interested in Necrons as a faction.
...I did not have "Warhammer 40K book gets me to ship robot skeleton dudes" on my bingo card for this year…

Btw, y'all should buy The Fall of Cadia by Robert Rath, if you haven't already. Another straight up winner from the man. Provoking & enjoyable portrayals of Creed, Cawl and Trazyn (among others). Many beautifully depicted death scenes that are picturesque in their tragedy. It is, to me, one of the rare books where you actually have a true sense of the Imperium losing, and the ground-level impact contained therein. If any of you have played Halo: Reach, it evokes that same sort of feeling.

This book about soulless robots has so much more heart than most any other stuff this setting has provided, it’s great

“The selection process took two standard years of bickering, politicking, and the occasional threat of violence. It was, in other words, a standard Necron court case.”

I just finished Dune, and not sure which of my three options I should read next, so here's a poll (that inevitably won't really get any votes, so I'll still have to make the decision myself but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Option 1 - Pariah by Dan Abnett - A book centred around Bequin, a character I liked from Dan Abnetts earlier books (The Eisenhorn trilogy), that goes for being a mind-bending thriller set in Warhammer 40k
Option 2 - The Iliad by Homer (translated by E. V. Rieu) - It's the Iliad. Ancient Greek story of Achilles' rage, and the horrors of the siege of Troy
Option 3 - The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath - An odd couple comedy about a pair of immortal, kinda-undead robots that hate each other. Also 40k

Upon rereading Robert Rath’s excellent “Assassinorum: Kingmaker” my one and only complaint with the book has re-emerged. If the whole thing has already gone for an uncommonly (for warhammer) happy ending, with basically all protagonists getting exactly what they want or need in a very fairytale manner - why not go all the way and have Gwynne join the Adeptus Mechanicus? Particularly the followers of a certain shrimp-man? In what little time we had with her so much more was made of her curiosity and desire for understanding, than of her love for knights - and she wouldn’t even have to give that up!
Anyway, here is to warhammer AU where everything is the same, but one very happy former sacristan is busy servicing - and studying! - knights of House Taranis aboard Zar Quaesitor…

So, I just tried to listen to The Fall of Cadia audio book, right? It's written by Richard Reed, so it's bound to be good, it's got my two favorite characters in all of Warhammer, so it's bound to be good, right?
But that narrator.
I tried, honest to God I tried, but he makes every Necron sound like Skeletor's gimp cousin, and every guardsman sounds like a damn leprechaun. Not to mention the whiny, nasally cawl.
Like, I get that I'm just spoiled by John Banks' Cawl and Richard Reed's... everything, but come on, man.
The worst part is I still really want to read it, cause the actual prose sounds like it would be fantastic if it were anyone else reading it. At this point, all I can hope is a redone audio book, like they did for one of the Dark Imperium books. (I think it was Avenging Son, but I could well be wrong.)

Timeshift | Weeknotes
As I write this, it’s super early on Monday morning. I’m using the ‘Timeshifter App‘ for the first time as I’m leaving for the Autonomous Worlds Assembly in Istanbul tomorrow. This app is supposed to help you avoid jetleg and feel fresh where, and whenever, you travel. All my friends who travel a lot swear by it – not only for sorting out ones body clock but it drastically reduces the chances of…
