I found the last two seasons a disappointment compared to earlier ones but they were saved by the introduction of Lt. Buntz. Buntz was a (slightly) toned down version of a corrupt cop played in a couple of earlier episodes by the same actor. Buntz also had a shocking dress sense with huge kipper ties that never matched his suits (which looked as if they might have been fashionable a decade earlier).

Of the actors pictured above Kiel Martin died in 1990 and Robert Prosky in 2008.

Watching 11x12 for the umpteenth time I finally got the right push to post this video that's been sitting in my phone for months. I watched the whole of season 11 shortly after starting to watch season 3 and I happened to watch this episode almost immediately after coming up with an idea together with @thethistlegirl (one I'll be writing for NaNoWriMo if everything goes to plan).

There were all kinds of thoughts I got about this ep, about Frank's reaction to all of what happened and why that was, and before I knew it I had one half of a story written.

Let's just say that it'll get more clear once day 24 of Whumptober rolls in and I get to post the story.

And Garrett, you really shouldn't have asked Frank if he was a victim before, because you set us and the imps off.

Unsung Heroes of the MCU: Minor Characters in “The Avengers”

This movie may as well be titled “The Avengers: Reasonable Authority Figures”. The first two may be debatable as minor characters, since they appear in multiple movies and are not all that minor, but what the heck, they need more love.

1) Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg

Son of Coul, fanboy of Captain America and the MCU master of not being surprised or intimated by anything EVER. This man regular deals with people who could fold him up like a milk carton with one hand tied behind their backs and it impresses him not one little bit. Ironmonger war suit? Not that impressive? Mystical artifact from another world? Seen it before. Demigod on the loose? Hold my Captain America Cards and watch this! The picture I chose may not be the most flattering shot of him, but it is so very much HIM in his Agent Give-No-Fucks attitude that I just had to. Also, whenever he does give a fuck, he’s actually one of the most polite, caring, and genuinely friendly people you will ever meet.

2) Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smolders

Aka “the greater woman standing behind great man Nick Fury”. It is her job to make the often ridiculous and sometimes almost unrealistic demands of Fury work in a real-life context and she somehow always pulls it off, all while being utterly graceful along the way. She is a total badass and I love her. Also probably one of the few people who can afford talking back to Fury.

3) German Old Man, played by Kenneth Tigar

“There will always be men like you.” Who is this guy? No idea. Random old dude from Germany. But it takes serious guts to stand up to the god of mischief himself and be like “dude, we’ve got 70 years of history with guys like you - get in line, junior”. New life goal: be this perfectly civilian kind of badass when I’m retired.

4) Security Guard, played by Harry Dean Stanton

You know how, in action movies, if a giant, green, humanoid thing falls from the sky people either run away screaming or try to box it up and disect it? Yeah? Well, this gentleman is having none of that. This dude probably makes eight bucks an hour protecting some crappy warehouse. He is not paid enough to give a shit. He certainly does not need a Hulk crashing through the roof and demolishing the place, but what does he do? Attack him? Run in fear? Call the cops/military? No. He sees a creature that’s obviously in pain, waits there to make sure he’s going to be alright, gets him some clothes to wear after he’s shrunk down again, and has a perfectly calm and pleasant conversation with him when Bruce wakes up, like nothing just happened. This character is human decency and compassion incarnate. All the kudos.

5) Police Sergeant, played by Robert Clohessy

Another dude who is not getting paid enough to put up with shit like aliens dropping out of a wormhole in the sky and weird people in colorful tights suddenly showing up to order him around, but damn if he doesn’t do his best to maintain some semblance of order and safety in the face of this madness. And, yeah, when Cap first gives him orders for containing the alien invasion, he questions them, because that’s his job, but the moment he sees that he is actually dealing with THE Captain America, someone who knows what he’s doing and is at the very least much better equipped to deal with the situation, he immediately gets to work. No pissing contest about chain of command. No hurt pride. Just... prioritizing his job: saving as many lives as possible. It was so nice to see the usual disaster movie tropes subverted. Bless this sergeant.
