A baddie with the face of an angel. Fair-haired and blue-eyed and with a beautifully deep voice, it was hard to totally hate the character. He was an accomplished horseman and swordsman, and if at times he was arrogant and liked to trample the local villagers' cabbage patch, he also had a difficult boss who rarely ever gave him credit for his efforts. We acknowledge his faults and love our problematic child anyway.

Addies schlanker, aber athletischer Körperbau und sein attraktives Äußeres, seine Stimme und sein Auftreten haben seine Karriere von Anfang an in die eines Charakterdarstellers gelenkt, wobei er meist als Nebendarsteller in autoritären Rollen besetzt wurde. Dieser Aspekt seines Repertoires in Kombination mit seiner hervorragenden Reitkunst und seinen Fähigkeiten im Umgang mit Waffen führte dazu, dass er regelmäßig in historischen Dramen des Mittelalters auftrat.

Zu Beginn seiner Karriere in den frühen 1980er Jahren trat er im britischen Fernsehen in einer Reihe von kommerziellen Anzeigen auf. In den frühen 1980er Jahren trat er auch in einer Vielzahl von Theaterproduktionen auf, darunter Journey's End 1981 am Churchill Theatre in Bromley und Conduct Unbecoming 1982 am Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford.

1982 spielte Addie in einer der wenigen Hauptrollen seiner Karriere in der Rolle des Stalky in einer BBC-Fernsehminiserie von Rudyard Kiplings Roman Stalky. Er spielte die Rolle des Delahay in dem Film Another Country (1984).

Addie spielte den Charakter von Sir Guy of Gisburne in der englischen Fernsehserie Robin of Sherwood von 1984-1986 (obwohl er erst Mitte 20 war und etwas jung für die Rolle eines erfahrenen, geadelten mittelalterlichen Ritters aussah), eine Rolle, die ihm und seiner Karriere nationale Bekanntheit brachte.
