#Ricky and Cisco

Ricky took a slow, deep breath, his eyes fixated on the table and his poker hand in front of him. Though shifting his gaze and his focus upon Cisco, he watched as the other took a sip of sparkling soda, making a mental note that he had to pick up a pack for the apartment as he enjoyed the bubbly beverage. The bond between him and Cisco was strong, something unspoken but still spoke volumes. He was happy to have a friend like the other, and always appreciated him. "It'll be interesting for sure," before giving a shrug, "don't I always?" He asked with a light laugh, always one to clean up after himself to begin with, though maybe slacking when it came to the dishes sometimes. "Yes, and no," he sighed, "I think because why I moved out. I told Tyler that I lova Alina and wanted to live with her. And he just freaked." @franciscofontenelle
The glass filled with sparkling soda was lifted by a precise movement of his hand as Cisco took yet another sip. He was under the impression, a firm belief, that a friendship like theirs was rare to find, hard to come by in fast-moving times when time was not commonly spared for others. So, genuine appreciation always had a place between them, and happiness for one another's successes. And when Ricky spoke, Cisco rolled his shoulders in a shrug and nodded. "Guess you have a point there," he nodded, setting down his glass once more. "Just clean up after yourself and you'll be good." The words were uttered with a grin, just as mischievous as his friend's. Though, at the mention of Tyler, Cisco's brows furrowed. "Seriously? Because you moved out?" @enriquemarrero

Cisco, if they were normal… Yakone would be one of those scammers sat outside of establishments trying to desperately sell an overpriced phone payment plan and Cisco is barred from leaving the county she’s currently inhabiting because she attacked a correctional officer and was just recently released from prison. Cisco regularly prowls the streets looking for trouble and also regularly tries scamming people with insurance plans that’re not even by verifiable companies
Dontrell is working at the Church’s chicken in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city, a neighborhood that Cisco unfortunately lives in, and Cisco regularly harasses him in the restaurant because he wouldn’t give her free chicken. Also Petra and Ricky are visiting from Australia and they shop by this particular chicken shop for lunch and Petra is harassed by Cisco calling her a disgusting Brit and then Petra corrects her by saying she’s Australian and Cisco’s ego is destroyed so much that she attacks Petra and she’s immediately taken back to prison

“THE TEN GRAND”
June 22, 1944
“The Ten Grand” was an episode of radio’s Suspense broadcast on June 22, 1944. The script is by Virginia Radcliffe. It was her only Suspense script in a long radio writing career. She was best recognized for many years of writing for Cavalcade of America. This story was included in Suspense Magazine #3.
The program was produced and directed by William Spier.
Synopsis: A broke chorus girl inexplicably finds ten thousand dollars in her purse after it's been temporarily stolen on the subway. She's not sure what to do about it, and it soon leads to trouble. She has been set up.
Suspense was a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962. One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, it was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era.
The program was sponsored by Roma Wines, a Cailfornia vintage. Schenley (the makers of Roma) sponsored Suspense from December 02, 1943 to November 20, 1947.
CAST
Lucille Ball (Gigi Lewis) had done a previous episode of Suspense in January 1944 titled “Dime a Dance”. In 1944, Ball was entering her second decade in Hollywood. Ball’s latest film, Meet The People, had been released three weeks before this radio broadcast. Playing a down-on-her-luck chorine was not so far afield for Ball, who was just that before being hired to be a Goldwyn Girl in Hollywood.
In the program, Gigi narrates her own story.
Harry Lang (Wino / Axis Agent) portrayed Pancho on Mutual Radio's "The Cisco Kid". He appeared in 87 films, mostly B pictures and shorts.
Patrick McGeehan (The Greek) was an actor and narrator who frequently was heard on radio, television, and in films.
In the story, Gigi calls him ‘Galahad’ till he reveals his true identity.
John McIntire (Fat Man on the Subway) is probably best remembered for playing the Sheriff in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960). From 1959 to 1965 he was a regular on TV’s “Wagon Train”.
Jeanette Nolan (Old Lady on the Subway / Waitress) was a television, radio and film actress whose career spans over seventy years, although she is most remembered for her performances on radio. She made her film debut as Lady Macbeth in the 1948 film Macbeth starring Orson Welles, who also directed. She provided the voice of ‘Mother’ in Psycho (1960).
Joseph Kearns (The Man in Black) briefly played banker Rudolph Atterbury on Lucille Ball’s radio show “My Favorite Husband,” until the role was assumed by Gale Gordon, an actor who would figure prominently in Kearns’ career. He did his first episode of “I Love Lucy” playing psychiatrist Tom Robinson in “The Kleptomaniac” (ILL S1;E27) in 1952. In his second “I Love Lucy” appearance, Kearns played the theatre manager in “Lucy’s Night in Town” (ILL S6;E22) in 1957. In the fall of 1959, he created the role he would be best known for - and would ultimately be his last. Mr. George Wilson on TV’s “Dennis the Menace” appearing in 96 episodes starting with the very first. When he passed away during the show’s final season, his “Our Miss Brooks” co-star Gale Gordon took over for him, playing his brother John.
THE EPISODE
As the program opens, Gigi is standing in front of Lindy’s, a coffee shop on Broadway, dreaming of “a big t-bone steak smothered in onions.” She only has five cents for the subway in her pocket.
Ten years later, Ricky Ricardo takes everyone to Lindy’s when he hears about getting the part of Don Juan during “Ricky’s Contract” (ILL S4;E10).
Gigi is about to reach into her purse for the nickle to board the subway, when she discovers her purse has been snatched. The thief runs away, and a handsome man pursues him, getting the purse back for her. He gallantly returns it to Gigi. The handsome man bids her goodnight, and Gigi opens her purse for the nickle only to find a wad of cash. On the subway, a fat man strikes up a conversation with Gigi, recognizing her from the purse snatching on the platform.
Gigi gazes up at the poster for Miss Subways 1944, dreaming of furs, an apartment downtown, and expensive perfumes. She then considers that the money in her purse might well be counterfiet.
From 1941 to 1976, the women on the Miss Subways posters that lined subway cars and represented the diversity of New York City women: they were of all ethnicities and backgrounds, college students, secretaries, aspiring actresses and singers, as well as wartime nurses.
The fat man warns her that plainclothes policemen are in the subway car, which makes Gigi nervous. When the fat man leaves the train, she takes another peek in her purse and finds a note.
Get off at 161st Street and follow Yankee Doodle.
Gigi realizes a man has been whistling “Yankee Doodle Dandy” somewhere in the background. A nervous little old lady sits next to Gigi. She passes out! A man gives her a swig from his bottle and she revives. The little old lady is headed for her sister’s house on 169th Street. She reveals that five years ago someone stole her life savings - about ten grand. She tells GIgi she’ll get the money back someday becuase “It takes a thief to catch a thief.”
Gigi is suspicious that the old lady may be the brains of the operation, and asks her to whistle “Yankee Doodle”. The lady whistles it with a florish, but Gigi realizes it doesn’t help. They hear someone else whistling “Yankee Doodle.” A man who Gigi thinks “may have a slight case of murder on his mind.”
End of Act One
On the subway platform, Gigi keeps an eye out for the handsome stranger, and an ear out for “Yankee Doodle”. A nervous Gigi realizes that someone is ahead of her and behind her.
GIGI: “I’m the ham behind two slices of rye.”
She then sees that a third man is following her from across the street.
GIGI: “I’m a triple-decker sandwich now!”
Gigi realizes the two men are following Yankee Doodle, not her. To make sure her clicking heels don’t give here away, she takes her shoes off. Gigi fantasizes that maybe famous columnist Walter Winchell will be cruising the streets with the cops, getting material for his column, and making her a star by writing about her.
Walter Winchell made his radio debut on May 12, 1930 with a 15-minute feature that provided business news about Broadway. That same year he made his screen debut (based on his column) in the Warner Brothers short film The Bard of Broadway, in which he played himself. In 1933, he appeared as himself in Broadway Thru A Keyhole (aka Walter Winchell’s Broadway Thru a Keyhole), also featuring Lucille Ball. His voice was heard in the 1949 Lucille Ball film Sorrowful Jones and on the Desilu crime series “The Untouchables” (1959-1964).
The handsome suddenly takes her aside into an alley to avoid the two men stalking them. He tells her he is a Greek working to fund his country’s resistance to the Nazis. Gigi decides to distract the two flatfoots with a flashlight. She conks the men on the head with her shoes.
GIGI: “I broke my heel on that heel!”
Fleeing, Gigi and the Greek take refuge in an all-night diner. They both order t-bone steaks - rare with plenty of onions. The man says the money was meant to support the Greek underground and that the two men are Axis agents. He tells Gigi she gets ten percent for her troubles but all Gigi can think about is her t-bone steak! When the waitress returns to their table, she tells them that she forgot it was "meatless Tuesday" so there’s no steaks!
Meatless Tuesdays was a wartime initiative to preserve meat supplies to ensure there would be enough for the armed forces.
End of Episode
After the final commercial, Lucille Ball reports that tonight she said more words per minute than any other actress on the series - but spares a few more words to give a pitch to buy War Bonds.
Lucille Ball appeared through the courtesy of Metro Goldwyn Meyer, producers of The White Cliffs of Dover.
The film featured future “I Love Lucy” guest star Van Johnson, Norma Varden (Mrs. Benson), and an uncredited ten-year-old Elizabeth Taylor, who later appeared as herself on “Here’s Lucy.”
Next week Suspense presents “The Walls Came Tumbling Down” starring Keenan Wynn.
Two years later, in 1946, the Jo Eisenger story was turned into a film by Columbia Pictures starring Lee Bowman, who played George Cugat (later renamed Cooper) in the pilot episode of Lucy’s radio sitcom “My Favorite Husband” (1948). The film also featured Moroni Olsen, who played the Judge in “The Courtroom” (1952). In 1938, Bowman was featured in Next Time I Marry with Lucille Ball.

They were like opposite sides of a coin, one heads and one tails. The contrasting outlooks in life somehow worked between them, stemming from an early friendship. The ups and downs in life shaped who they had become, and Ricky considered Cisco to be the single person in his life to really keep things real with him. There was never any bullshit between them and Ricky was forever grateful for that. As Cisco said his name, Ricky turned to him, his eyes studying his friend's face. Seeing him and how he has grown over the years, he was no longer that little boy he knew. "But isn't always darkest before the dawn?" He asked, slipping in a random song lyric to try to get his friend to smile. One thing about Ricky was that he always tried to stay positive, even when things seemed as if they'd be falling apart. "Should I? You mean quit my glorious job is teaching science to the young minds of Kismet Harbor?" His voice dripping in fake enthusiasm and sarcasm with a tiny hint of playfulness. Then his shoulders dropped, feeing as his attempts to cheer up his friend were coming up short. "No sweat man, sorry I just happen to be a little extra cheerful these days I guess. Having a new girlfriend would do that to you. But I'm sorry man. Really what can I do to help?" @franciscofontenelle
Ricky's unabashed optimism stood in stark contrast, unyielding opposition to Francisco's own dire outlook on life and the future it held for him. There was no silver lining visible on his horizon and irritation simmered continuously in the pit of his stomach. It was a feeling not much unlike a commencing sickness, subtle traces of nausea thinning his nerves and he heaved a deep breath, as his best friend began to speak. "Ricky ..." The way he uttered the other's name bordered on a sigh, and he raised his hand to rub his eyes. "Right, but it does rain, currently." He put his best possible effort into lightening his voice, into trying to not sound as bitter as he did, but it was a miserable attempt and a grand failure. "You should really consider turning your motivational monologues into a career." A beat. "You'd do great." Letting his hand drop down onto the bar's wooden surface once more, he sighed again, averting his gaze to look at Ricky. "Sorry dude. I didn't mean it like that." @enriquemarrero

Overview of Television I watched for Project 1952:
Best Comedy: I Love Lucy. Pretty self-evident!
Best Variety Show: All Star Revue. The episodes hosted by Olsen and Johnson were the most delicious kind of crazy.
Best Drama: Dragnet. Its unglamorized portrayal of crime investigations was refreshing.
Best Anthology Show: Westinghouse Studio One. The episodes could vary a lot in quality, but the acting and production values were always top notch. And I got to see Betty Furness three times in every show!
Best Gameshow: What’s My Line? This might go down as my favorite show out of everything. It is consistently fun and hilarious.
Best News Show: See it Now with Edward R. Murrow. We need a show like this today! Both cerebral and visceral... in-depth coverage of stories not always in the headlines... and a voice for real morality in the midst of racism and communist witch hunts...
Best Children’s/adventure: The Adventures of Superman. I did not expect to like this so much- I'm not a comics/superhero person at all. But the show is just kind of cute and fun.
Best Sports Broadcast: I really enjoyed watching the Heavyweight Title fight between Marciano and Walcott, which kind of shocked me.
Worst Show: The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. It’s not the worst show production-wise, but I just couldn’t stand the moralizing, the deep sexism, and the exploitation of a real family. I really didn't like the "character" Ozzie- he wasn’t funny or charismatic, and something about him rubbed me the wrong way.
Favorite male character: Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy. Sexy, funny, talented, able to laugh at himself and appear ridiculous... and how ‘bout a hand for the fact that he was a Latino man starring on a #1 TV show when any kind of racial diversity on television was almost unheard of! (Honorable mention to Clark Kent/Superman.)
Favorite female character: Ethel Mertz from I Love Lucy. Vivian Vance is a comedic genius who doesn’t always get the credit for it. And she should! (Honorable mention to Dale Evans from The Roy Rogers Show. Another ass kicking cowgirl!)
Best pitch-person: Betty Furness!! No one else could make me spend hours of my life taking, editing, and posting screenshots of all the products she sold. (Honorable mention to Harry von Zell who sold us Carnation evaporated milk on The Burns and Allen Show.)
Character or person I’d most want to marry: Can I be in a quadruple with Betty Furness, Arlene Francis, and Robert Lewis? (Arlene Francis and Robert Lewis were both panelists on What’s My Line?)
Best surprises: Randomly falling in love with Betty Furness. The fact that Tales of Tomorrow existed years before The Twilight Zone. Eisenhower’s acceptance speech for the nomination where he talked glowingly about “progressive policies in the finest Republican tradition.” The insane, unpredictable, occasionally meta comedy duo of Olsen and Johnson!
Worst surprises/most disappointing: The Christmas episode of Tales of Tomorrow. The episode of Ozzie and Harriet where Ozzie committed the high crime of wanting to look at beautiful women in ballet costumes. The episode of The Cisco Kid where a guy tries to rape a girl, but her father says it’s ok because he understands what it’s like to be so in love with a woman you can’t control yourself. The episode of Dragnet where an 8-year-old boy was shot by a gun his 9-year-old neighbor got for Christmas. It wasn’t disappointing as an episode, because it was very good, but it made me cry my freaking eyes out.
List of all the TV shows:

Happy FFWF! Do you have any headcanons for Jasper & Camila?
-Camila enlists Jasper to keep an eye on her younger twin siblings, Amada and Ricky. Well, it’s mainly for Ricky as he’s a troublemaker and Camila wants to make sure that he doesn’t get in too much trouble or danger. She also keeps an eye on Jasper’s sister.
-Both the students and other professors have bets going on when Camila and Jasper are going to get together.
-Camila’s brothers, Elías and Cisco give Jasper a bit of an interrogation when Camila and Jasper start getting serious. Elías and Cisco are not the most intimidating people or very good interrogators.
-Camila teaches Jasper some Spanish, and eventually tells him that she loves him in Spanish the first time she says it.
-Star gazing dates where Camila can point out all the different constellations and planets. Plus she’s rather used to be up late, as she teaches astronomy.
-Most Friday nights, they have dinner at the Three Broomsticks or another restaurant in Hogsmeade, instead of having dinner in the Great Hall.

I feel really really bad for dontrell because he has the worst friend group ever. they’re all freaks. ricky is a perpetual loner who stays hidden in his freakish room all day. petra has sociopathic tendencies and retroactively molds her personality depending on the Hour of the day. yakone is absolutely fucking insane and cisco has BPD. i would seriously consider suicide if i were him
