Rick Johnson and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Michigan Marijuana Licensing Board
Former State House Rep and one of Osceola County’s finest Rick Johnson (R – Lobbyists giving me money to get a spot on the next MMLB’s agenda isn’t a bribe, it’s a place-holder) has found himself in a spot of bother over his tenure as president of the disbanded Michigan Marijuana Licensing Board. In 2008 the people of Michigan voted to legalize marijuana for medical use. Dispensaries popped up…

I get so sad when I see people wanting to control what an artist/producer/director puts in his/her arts/movies/series/stories. It's about their ideias. They can do or put whatever they want, even though we don't agree with them. Don't like? Don't consume. Only that!🤔

Who should play Martian Manhunter in the DCU?
Martian Manhunter always felt like one of the most important members of the Justice League to me. He is an alien, making him a sort of mentor and friend to Superman, but he is not an Earthling like most. He is a foreigner, the last of his kind, and must shift his likeness in order to assimilate to a new world. As a person of color, his story always felt the most sad, and all too real.
While the Manhunter from Mars is an original member of the Justice League and a staple member of JLA in Justice League Unlimited, J'onn J'onzz has been largely absent from live action films.
While he was retconned as Calvin Swanwick in Zack Snyder's Justice League, we don't get much of him, and he doesn't really contribute to any fight.
With the DCU reboot already featuring alien/alien adjacent heroes such as Blue Beetle, Hawkgirl, Superman, and Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter's return can fit in nicely real soon.
If that is to be true, I have a couple of picks I think can add something new to the character, and become a very fun recurring character for The Justice League and other DCU movies to come.
First, as always, let's answer some questions:
What depictions are we drawing from?
When it comes to Manhunter, there are quite a few solid iterations in both Live Action and Animation. Let's start with the big one.
Carl Lumbly - Justice League/Justice League Unlimited
It's hard to not talk Martian Manhunter without bringing up Justice League Unlimited.
Carl Lumbly provided the voice for the character, which is often the voice people hear when they think of Manhunter. He brings wisdom, strength, and sorrow to the character that people often try to emulate, but can never truly duplicate.
He also brought an awkward energy to humanity I quite love. I think it has been missing in other versions. I'd love our Manhunter to be unfamiliar with earth customs, and more importantly question them.
David Harewood - Arrowverse
I don't think any show or movie has used Martian Manhunter as effectively as Supergirl.
The initial twist of not being Hank Henshaw and instead being the last son of Mars is still one of my favorite moments in the series. Ever since then, J'onn is used as a mentor to most heroes, sometimes team leader, but always the inspiration of the team.
David Harewood brings a righteous anger to Manhunter at times that I absolutely love. I'd love to carry that over.
This version of J'onn is slightly more optimistic than most, seeing the good in humanity, and believing the world deserves saving.
Overall, he is a fantastic Manhunter, and if you haven't seen Supergirl, you should definitely give it a shot.
Henry Lennix - DCEU
While he is mostly a shut in, there are aspects of this character I quite like.
Manhunter being a reveal in the DC Universe is fun for fans. Trying to figure out what a guy is up to and turning out to be one of the best DC heroes can be a delight if done right.
I also like that this Manhunter is working behind the scenes to help heroes like Superman. Having him starting as a mentor character already and then being a mentor superhero is a fun concept.
While I don't like how much he is on the sidelines for the DCEU, setting him up in multiple movies to finally face his fear and come from the shadows as a person we've already known could've been amazing had Snyder continued on.
And of course, Lennix also has a fantastic voice.
What ethnicity is Martian Manhunter?
Well, he's a martian.
In most depictions, Manhunter is portrayed by black actors. I think continuing this is important, as his story is an immigrant story, and it appears to be a staple aspect of the character.
Any other stipulations?
I'd like our Manhunter to feel older than our other main characters. If Superman is 30, I'd like Manhunter to feel a couple decades older.
I'm looking for someone in the 50-70 range, but I'd say more towards 50 as he has to feel formidable.
This actor should have a great voice, feel like he a mentor, project strength and sadness, and most importantly, be able to be part of an ensemble.
I'm not looking for a leading man technically. Manhunter feels crucial to the League, but I don't necessarily see him leading his own project. More like Vision in the MCU who comes up in key places and is always a delight.
Unlike other heroes, Manhunters build is inconsequential, as he can shape shift into Manhunter using CGI. So really, any build is good.
As always, I don't want an actor widely known for any other superhero role.
Unlike most of my fancasts, I think I found three I like a lot and would be extremely happy with any of them. It was very close and I went real back and forth. Let's get into it:
3. Rick Worthy
While he is known for other roles such as Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, The Man in the High Castle, or Vampire Diaries, Rick Worthy has caught my attention from his role as Dean Henry Fogg in The Magicians.
As the Dean, Worthy mentors young heroes on how best to use their abilities all while keeping secrets of his own on a looming threat. If that doesn't scream Manhunter, I don't know what does.
Worthy's Manhunter could be a little more fun than the others. I can see him poking fun at the man dressed as the Bat, or shape shifting into the other heroes to mock them.
I think having a character with a background in Sci-Fi could make the Manhunter reveal harder for people to see coming. I also think Worthy is an actor who won't be bigger than the role.
My main concern is I think he could struggle with the mentoring of heroes without being sarcastic. I'm not sure how genuine Worthy can be as Manhunter, which is why I have him third.
I can still see Worthy playing this role for decades to come, and really chew up scenery.
2. Blair Underwood
Known for roles in films like Rules of Engagement, Set it off and shows such as Agents of SHIELD, American Crime Story, and Dear White People, you've probably seen Blair Underwood in a really well acted piece of media.
Underwood has a smoothness the other actors do not. I can absolutely see Underwood's Manhunter gain a high level job based on his skill and charm.
Underwood also has the most experience being a part of great ensembles. It's an often overlooked skill to be great and amplify the skills of other great actors without being overshadowed. Underwood has that skill which is why he has such an incredible career.
He has experience playing FBI, experience playing a shape shifter in Agents of SHIELD, a mentor (although a bad one) in Dear White People, and perfected all of them.
If I had to put money down as to who would get this role, Underwood has my bet. I could see him cast tomorrow for Superman Legacy and fit in perfectly. But I do have one more I really love.
1. Andre Braugher
You see it now don't you?
Known for roles in The Good Fight, Bojack Horseman and Men of a Certain Age, Braugher really launched into the zeitgeist as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine Nine.
Captain Holt may be the perfect audition tape for Martian Manhunter.
Older experienced mentor who is othered for being different, doesn't always understand social human interactions, extremely smart, kind, but with a righteous anger.
That's Manhunter.
Braugher through his time in Brooklyn Nine Nine also demonstrated how funny and/or dramatically poignant he can be. Both are needed for Manhunter.
Much like Underwood, Braugher has experience being in large ensembles and bringing out some of the best in other actors. Imagine a scene as good and emotional as the final scene between Holt and Jake between Manhunter and Superman.
That's the kind of Manhunter the DCU needs.

Part of that process has included meeting with Zack Snyder at the Justice League director's request, Harmon said in a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. "Not him saying, 'I get to do it,' or anything like that," Harmon explained. "He was totally a super fan and was just like, 'Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?'"
Well, I guess that explains Rick and Morty's background appearance in Justice League.

A doctor asks for recognition of Monetary Sovereignty -- except he may not know it.
Here is a letter from a doctor, a cardiologist, who begs the U.S. government to understand Monetary Sovereignty. But, he may not know it. He may not know that the U.S. federal government is Monetarily Sovereign, so it never can run short of its sovereign currency, the U.S. dollar. He may not know that despite the common but mistaken, bleating about the federal debt and deficits, the U.S. has, and…

Okay, so I got some more shadow people Shinigami lore.
PART 1
LIFE DRAIN Shinigami can actively and passively drain the life out of things to feed themselves. Different things have different amounts of life energy. Having a Shinigami attached to you drains you passively. The life energy of people being killed by a Death Note will automatically “feed” the Shinigami and therefore weakens the life drain effect of the user. So it’s in your own interest to use the Death Note regularly if you don’t want to return it to the Shinigami.
DREAM WALKER Shinigami don’t sleep and just hang around menacingly in your room as you’re trying to fall asleep. Can be quite boring though and some find it fun to invade their users dreams messing with their head. Death Note keepers have vivid dreams every night and you can imagine seeing a Shinigami in your dreams regularly and waking up to one looming over you is terrific for your mental health. You quickly lose your grip to reality if this goes on for too long.
I imagine Light learned lucid dreaming after noticing this behaviour and starts messing with Ryuk invading his dreams too.
Rem gets a whole lot more tragic with in this version, as she is the reason Misa is suffering. As soon as she grows feelings for Misa, she’s torn. She doesn’t want Misa to keep writing names, she doesn’t want to take the Death Note away from her, she doesn’t want to write her name and end it all, she doesn’t want Misa to work with Light either.
I can imagine Misa always ordering two of everything when she goes out to eat and everyone going "how are you staying so thin??" and Rem be like "I got you"
Kal suffers to the extreme under Sidoh’s possession, despite Sidoh being on the more unintimidating tame side. The guy can’t cope at all with the haunting presence. He becomes terrified of sleeping/dreaming and tries to keep himself awake with meds, excessive amounts of coffein etc. Maybe he opens up to Rocket-Rick about this:
I have some more thoughts but I gotta stop somewhere.

Watters on some of his Nightwing inspirations:
The hope is always to draw from all the iterations of the character that have come before. I had a few issues by Devin Grayson & Rick Leonardi as a kid which I reread until the staples fell out, so I guess that's my foundation. Snyder/Jock/Francavilla's Black Mirror & Morrison/Quitely's Batman & Robin are also favourites, so Dick's tenure as Batman is definitely in my head as well, though it's not something we'll directly dwell on, I suspect.

So recently I've been seeing some discourse online about voice actors.
Particularly ones that can only really do one voice.
We're talking about the likes of Kristen Schaal, Dana Snyder, Patrick Warburton, Kevin McDonald, Keith David, Brad Garrett, H. Jon Benjamin, David Kaufman, Brian Stepanek and Eddie Deezen.
However, it's not in the way you may be thinking.
In fact, the discourse is about praising these guys and showcasing just how good of VAs they are despite only being able to do one voice.
Thought it did get me thinking about another notable VA that can also only do one voice.
However, in contrast to the VAs I just mentioned, they're looked down on for that.
If you haven't guessed who it is already, I'm talking about the infamous Justin Roiland.
It got me wondering why are the aforementioned VAs so beloved and praised as being good, while Justin isn't.
Well putting aside the obvious fact that they're not abusive creeps or talentless hacks, there are a few reasons I can think of.
Characters and Inflictions:
Despite using the same voice for their characters, what truly makes those aforementioned VAs such great VAs are....well, the characters they play.
Just about all the characters those VAs are different from each other, and the VAs use different inflictions in order to perfectly capture their personalities.
Justin unfortunately lacks this skill.
A common complaint towards his characters is that a lot of them tend of feel similar to one another.
Which is not helped by his lack of a vocal range.
The worst examples of this are in the case of Rick & Korvo and Morty & Oscar.
The latter duo have this the worst.
Not only being similar to each other character-wise, but also having the EXACT same voice.
Rick and Korvo are a little better (though not by much) since the latter does sound a little different (though once again, not by again), but they still suffer the problem of being too similar to each other from a characterization standpoint.
Acting:
Although most people consider them two separate mediums, acting and voice acting are essentially similar to one another, as it involves performing as a character.
And although they can only do one voice, you can tell those aforementioned VAs can actually act!
They can actually sell on the emotion their character may be feeling.
H. Jon Benjamin is one of my favorites when it comes to this.
Because of how he always talks in a monotone voice, I always get taken aback whenever he screams or yells.
They just sound so genuine.
Now compare this to Justin.
Justin seems incapable of doing emotional moments.
Whenever he does, it feels rather stilled and somewhat forced.
Like, compare his last official voice performance on Rick and Morty....
youtube
To some scenes featuring some of the aforementioned VAs.....
youtube
youtube
youtube
You can hear the emotion in their performances!
Back to that Mr. Poopy Butthole scene.
Apart from the fact that at the point of this episode's premiere, Justin's trademark of doing an annoying goofy voice has ran its course and became, well, annoying.
Listen to when PB is in pain.
He doesn't really sound like it.
Like dude, his legs were crushed.
He should be screaming bloody murder!
But instead he just sounds like he's having a sugar rush.
Justin is also famous for heavily relying on ad-libbing and improvising when it comes to voice acting.
Hence his trademark stuttering
And while that isn't a bad thing in itself, it gives off the impression that he really just can't voice act.
And given how much of a talentless hack he was proven to be, I honestly believe that is the case.
There's also the fact that he famously drinks before voice acting.
And I don't think I need to explain to anyone here how alcohol can negatively affect....well, anything.
Quantity:
I think the biggest reason why so many people don't like Justin's voice acting is just how of him there is.
Justin famously has a lot of voice roles in Rick and Morty.
Not just voicing the titular duo, but also a decent chunk of secondary characters and a WHOLE LOT of extras.
Contrast that to the aforementioned VAs, who only really voice one character in whatever show they're in.
Bar a few exceptions like Bob's Burgers.
Since after hearing so many characters voiced by Justin in the same show, you can't help but start to get tired of it.
And I know there's gonna be some people who are gonna bring up Seth MacFarlane and Alex Hirsch, two creator who also voiced a lot of characters in their shows.
Both in the main and secondary cast.
And as extras.
But both of them use different voices for just about every character they voice.
And although this is a slightly smaller example, but the MTV animated series Undergrads had the series creator, Pete Williams, voice all FOUR of the main protagonists.
And to this day, I'm still shocked by his performance as all four of them.
Like, they all sound so different from each other. So much so that you wouldn't be able to tell that they're all voiced by the same dude.
To wrap this all up, I wanna bring up one last thing that makes this especially bad.
And it doesn't have to do with Justin's quality.
Apparently, the reason why Justin voiced so many characters in this show was so he could use it as an excuse to not get fired.
youtube
Anyway, that's all I have for today.
A short post, but something I wanted to talk about.
And also, Justin, if you're reading this......
Go fuck yourself.
