I am of the DPxDC belief/headcanon that any variation of Danny who grew up poor in Gotham during his formative years before moving to Amity Park would not be friends with Sam without friction at first. It makes things more interesting and imo allows for more exploration of different themes plus character growth for Sam that she doesn't really go through in canon.
(this doesn't only apply to a DPDC au where Danny grew up in Gotham poor, but it was the first thing that I thought of where this might happen considering my Childhood Friends au.)
Now Sam's a compassionate girl, it's one of her defining character traits, but so is her hypocrisy and judgy-ness. She's the Not Like Other Girls' girl. This is in part of the show's narrative framing that makes her out like this, unfortunately though its still showing how she is as a character since its consistent enough to be part of her character description. There are also times where the show's depiction of her activism makes it look like she's performative about it. All of this makes her dynamic with a Danny who grew up poor in Gotham very interesting.
Anyways, Sam is aware of her privilege to an extent, but still has her blindspots - glaring ones, in some cases. Her self-righteous attitude would not go over well with a crime alley kid Danny. He'd like her, at first, but then she'd do something to make him mad - personally I think her judging people for not being vegan would annoy him the most, or at least would be the breaking point for him, because it was only recently that his family started actually being able to consistently put food on the table at all, good food nonetheless. And being vegan is expensive.
Any other behavior he noticed from her he'd slowly stop tolerating - her judging conventionally attractive girls and automatically assuming they're vapid and shallow for being feminine. Her anti-capitalist beliefs start coming off as superficial at worst, and Danny would eventually figure out that Sam either came from a family that was well off, or that she wasn't aware if her family was experiencing financial struggle.
He would still be friends with Tucker, but since Tucker imo is still friends with Sam, they'd still run into each other often enough to butt heads. Sam's got a nasty habit of refusing to take responsibility when she's wrong, but when Danny is arguing with her, and counterpointing her with stuff she can't retort back at without compromising her own beliefs, then forces her to start reflecting on herself. Especially when Tucker eventually starts siding with Danny and agreeing with him.
Does sam genuinely care about her beliefs and philosophies? Survey says yes. However that doesn't mean she's not ignorant, and she definitely is at times throughout the show (like when she released the purpleback gorilla thinking it 'wanted out of its enclosure' despite the fact that it was endangered and in an urban area) and I think it'd be a real fascinating dynamic between Danny and Sam to explore.
This isn't Sam hate btw, nor am I trying to make her out like "the worst person ever" bc she's not, i wanna make that explicitly clear. Sam Manson has a lot of positive traits about her but she also has an equal amount of negative traits that I think should be explored, she is not immune to the character development.

Starting a fire
Part 1 | Part 2
Hero stared at the hi-tech communication device in their hand. It was more than a mobile phone, that they were certain of. This was the same device Villain used to control their weapons, to call for reinforcements, to find other heroes and villains’ locations.
This was also the same device they were going to use to contact the hero agency somehow, to complain about them.
Hero didn’t know how that worked, did the Villain have their number in their contacts, or were they just going to submit a form on the website? Regardless, this device was extremely powerful. A fact that taunted them as they sat and stared at how exactly to get rid of the plain black screen.
It had been an hour since Hero had run away from Villain. One whole hour without any suspicious droppings-in by said villain.
Hero didn't mind to be honest, even if it was suspicious. But best to take advantage of their crime-less free time.
They had started dozing off when they heard the unmistakable pitter patter of people’s shoes, coming towards what they called their door.
They sat up immediately, their first instinct to spot their bag then the window. They thought they were safe. They thought they were careful.
But that didn't matter right now. The strangers outside were knocking on their door now asking to be let in.
They pounced for their bag. Villain’s device, their super suit, some clothes and food they had saved up — everything seemed to be there. They took their shoes in their other hand and ran towards the window.
They jumped, and the strangers outside opened the door.
Hero bounced back. Some force fields were blocking the open window. It wasn’t glass but they had felt this power before.
Villain.
The door opened and a lot of adults barged in, cameras and microphones and notepads in hand. They weren’t dressed in supersuits, which was a surprise, but not one that made Hero feel any calmer.
“Hello!” one adult said too loudly, wearing a dress shirt and pants, holding a mic in hand.
Hero didn't say a word. They stepped backward to the window. They couldn’t escape before, but maybe they could burn the force field, or even just the wall instead.
A lot of camera flashes. And a lot of people.
Hero inched closer and closer to the wall.
And then a well-dressed figure strode in and everyone was quiet.
“I told you, didn’t I?” They sounded familiar. And Hero had the vague suspicion that that line was aimed at them instead of the crowd invading their room.
“How did you know?”
“What are you going to do now?”
“Are there more homeless kids in this building?”
Question after question, and the figure ignored them all, choosing instead to come to Hero and kneel down in front of them.
“Hello, NAME.” Hero panicked. How did they know their name? Who was this person? What were these people going to do with them now? Could they fire blast all of them and escape? Would they get in trouble? Would they get hurt? Were these people villains... Villain.
It clicked.
They looked into those eyes staring at them. Villain’s eyes.
Villain noticed Hero’s recognition instantly and they beamed. Oddly enough, Hero had even changed their stance and posture ever so slighty, seeming more comfortable now that someone in the room wasn’t a stranger to them.
An enemy. But not a stranger.
How… strange, Villain wanted to say. But they didn’t, despite wanting Hero to hear their brilliant puns as soon as they thought of them.
But it didn't matter. Villain had a plan, which was why they had these people come to this run-down slum Hero called a home.
“NAME,” Villain said, a fake softness in their voice which didn't disguise the villainous gleam no one but Hero saw. “I’m going to adopt you.”
Hero remembered being wrapped in a hug and a prick in their neck before they passed out.

Writing journey
Been feeling extremely stressed and realized I haven't written anything in a while. Writing makes me feel better and every few months when life seems to be getting away from me and I seem to be struggling in every way, I'll realize I haven't written. So here you go, part 2 I wrote in like an hour while having 3 deadlines tomorrow.
Please share tips for stress and time management, I am struggling so bad and my brain is going to explode and I keep falling asleep.
Life lesson: Sometimes the less intuitive thing will help. Wish me luck, I'm going to try working on those things tonight when I'm back home.
I do feel better, but now I need to get ready to leave.

I will bore you all writing about Doctor Finlay, but bear with me.
One of the most unrealistic aspects of the Doctor Finlay-Nurse Meitland mess is the idea that they got engaged right before or as the war begun, and then for some reason had not seen each other ever since. Brenda has never left Tannachbrae during that time; which would have been an easier fix, had she joined up as an army nurse herself and been sent to units far from John's. I guess it couldn't be because the maximum drama of her new American fiancé living in town couldn't possibly be cut off. The western front didn't reopen till 44'.
The only possible mitigation, then, would be for Finlay to have been on the desert front, and lo and behold, upon rewatching 1x02, he tells a kid he was in the desert, then Sicily, then Italy, and finally Germany. But even on this generous scenario of the writers it doesn't make sense. If Finlay had had 6 years of ininterrupted service without leave home, chances are he'd have priority to have leave home as soon as the war ended, specially because I don't think personnel was being roaded or flown directly from Italy to Germany for obvious reasons of logistic convenience. So he would have been home on leave after may 45, and so the plot as presented is absurd.
But then it is all doubly absurd because the most reasonable and likely course of action would be for him to hear about it through letters. A dear John letter, or even someone from town condoling with him by assuming that the public status of Brenda's new engagement meant that Finlay had been informed too. What is the audience supposed to assume about their correspondence? Was he writing her tender, loving letters and receiving no response? Was he receiving tepid, general letters from her and being unconsciously or deliberately dense?
It makes no sense. Compels me though.

Nothing more frustrating than having a dream set in an amazing book series and then waking up to find out it doesn’t exist. Guess I’VE gotta write this now
#it was so INTERESTING and vivid. i woke up like ‘i swear i’ve read this’ but it doesn’t actually exist#okay so the setting was this world where the moon has cracked in half (potentially due to human intervention idk)#the tides have gone super weird because of this#the majority of humans live at basically the tops of really really tall buildings. like at high altitude#at the lower levels; it’s just water. the lower down you go the humidity increases also#so as well as the humans who live at the top of the world there are vaporous species living at the mid level and there are mer-creatures#in the sea. god knows how agriculture works in this world. i know people had rooftop gardens#maybe everyone had adapted to a vegan diet or maybe there was trade with the mermaids to get fish. idk#anyway; the majority of my dream was concerned with this elite university academy and this one problematic student named alex#he had been sentenced to life imprisonment for basically insulting the government (this was a very totalitarian regime that had formed when#the world first cracked and everything went to shit)#but he would be able to get his sentence overturned if he took this one class (i think it was civics or politics or something#with a media focus) and basically created the best propaganda video imaginable#so they were basically requiring him to recant his claims publicly; endorse the government; and he had to do it so convincingly#that his video would be rated the best in the class#the other people in the class included these two sisters who also badly needed to pass in order to graduate#and a bunch of exchange students#also the sky is basically a television in this world#everyone is up so high that they can see the moon fractured in two and it’s Really close to the earth#but you can’t see much else in the sky. so they were doing shit like beaming everyone’s class schedules and syllabi and lists of what you#need to buy for class directly into the sky#i don’t know if i’m selling it but it was so INTERESTING. i was really annoyed when i woke up and realised i couldn’t actually read this#because it doesn’t exist#APPARENTLY i have to write it. which is worrying because i’m not at all good at worldbuilding. but honestly the dream was so vivid#i can basically just.. take it and expand on it very slightly#i think what interested me was the backdrop of this elite university that all the kids of rich family go to vs the obvious reality#of this world; where there is food scarcity and very little diversity of habitats. and a dictator#personal

I’m watching the beginning of Netflix’ new urban fantasy The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, and is. Is the entire premise actually mixed child spends his whole life being systematically abused, bullied and humiliated by the hateful violent “we are the good guys” community he lives in for being mixed and told that his father’s people are inherently evil, he was born evil and that he better not develop negative feelings towards his abusers or that’s proof of his evilness? How long does this go on? Because I don’t think I have the stomach for an entire show of a teenage boy being blamed for his own horrendous abuse.

A big backyard. vacation once a year. my ow#personal bedroom etc and ik they were kids but it was like. insanely frustrating to have these kids who had like. never had to live without#Wants. yk. bc then i would just write down like. food. shelter. water. thats it lmao i even had clothes as a want instead of a need. and#they were making fun of me bc my list was so short and its like . look man i have gone without these three things on multiple occasions. yk#and now i try to be like. its good that there are ppl who have never experienced that i dont want ppl to have to experience that especially#like. that was in 4th grade lol. i was 9. i shouldnt have been worrying abt bills and stuff and none of my classmates knew anything abt tha#and thats a Good thing they shouldnt have. but theres this selfish part of me that wishes they did KANDJNS bc its so insanely isolating to#have ppl like. interrogating you abt why your shoes are so worndown or why your winter jacket is too small yk. and you cant say 'my family#cant afford better/new ones' bc they dont even understand what money is. yk. IDK. im just very sensitive abt these kinds of things KANDNW..#perhaps a bit too oversensitive at times but yk. im working on it and im working on not being spiteful abt it bc like. yes it was isolating#but it was a good thing that the kids didnt relate to it yk. kids shouldnt relate to that and i shouldnt have felt that way bc no kid shoul#im also Ik i bring it up constantly but im still so mad abt that time my friends heard me say Yeah i have to go to court against my dad nex#wednesday . and they didnt say anything and then one of them went Ughhh my dad wont buy me the newest iphone hes buying me the newest#samsung instead But i have an iphone app that i spent 50 dollars on that wont transfer !!!!!! and then she endedup getting the iphone#anyways. sry ikk its grudge and i need to let it go but im still peeved... brinn there are people that are dying .#and also now i know that like. a lot of the other kids in my class Did understand and were just like. posturing. yk. a few of those kids#were from the same neighborhood as me lmao i was just too autistic to realize we werent supposed to be honest 💀 but yes. sry for this like#manifesto i am just thinking out loud..... well not bc this is text famously a written form of communication but we all understand. anyways

When I started my studies to become an accountant, I had no idea how political that career would turn out to be.
Post graduation, I was at a crossroad.
I could have gone Right. Chose to work for the accounting firm where I did my internship, one of the "Big Four". It would have meant having wealthy coworkers for who "renting" housing is a waste of money. It'd mean a successful and impressive career. It'd mean 60 hours weeks minimum, spent making the rich richer, through legal and illegal means. It'd mean working for a firm thats been convicted again and again and again. A firm thats been condamned to pay record fees of millions of dollars year after year, and can yet keep going normally like it's nothing.
But I went Left. Chose to work for an association. Took a pay cut. Be surrounded by coworkers that barely make ends meet. Be paid by government's money like I'm on "state handouts". But knowing my time is spent assisting and housing the poor and refugees.
