“Just because I talk a lot doesn’t mean I always know what I’m talking about.”
Got bored and since I don’t have string yet to complete the rest of the bracelets and all that, went with the ribbon and it should work well enough. Though, it’s mostly there to look more nicer than the string so sometimes it’s useful and definitely has more respect in it, but for the most part since I don’t have the string till about either Saturday or Sunday, going to have to deal with the pieces some of them anyway with using the ribbon. Plus, it gives a nice aesthetic colors contrast to the piece that it is on. For the most part, wasn’t exactly thinking on the front of aesthetic senses for it, except in the case that it fits well with being the bracelet or part of a necklace, but beyond that it’s not exactly good for swapping out of a similar and colorful and comfortable aesthetic. Plus, it also gives the WitchCore aelventics or the color of a witch’s eyes or at least of the respectable witches and their own places, especially if one wants to recognize a witch by color alone. Then, that would be; Blues, Purples, Yellows, Pinks, and Reds. Though, the ribbon due to being a light pastels version still fits nicely on the surface of the core colors of characteristics.

I found the agate at the sea shore on a cloudy day. It's a nice sized chunk, almost as big as the end of my thumb and is a golden amber color with streaks of white shot through it. I took silver wire and wrapped it with swirls and left a loop at the top so it can go on a chain or ribbon or cord or whatever someone wants. I left it out in the light of the full moon and now it keeps a little of that shine. I'm putting it in a nest of swan down in a small cedar jewelry box, and I leave it in the Atchivist's keeping. Please see that it ends up with someone who may need a light when they feel they're shrouded in darkness.
Yours respectfully, Remora 💜
I can do that, certainly. You seem like someone who takes care with small things, so in return, perhaps you will accept this: a wooden chess set, carved with care, the edges softened and polished by decades of use. There is one piece that doesn't match the rest, a black knight of onyx, but he mingles happily with the rest of the herd of knights. They wish to be used and admired; only remember to switch the misfit knight in and out so he is not excluded.

How To: Bead Trees With Resin Base
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You Will Need:
Tools:
Mini Pin Vice ($8.99 on Amazon)
Basic Jewelry Making Tool Set
Silicone Soap Mold
Helping Hands Rigid Arm Station ($25.99 on Amazon, if your craft store has a rigid-arm version, it would be with the modeling kits. You want those big chonky arms, the thinner ones are useable, but frustrating)
Clear Epoxy Resin (NOT UV RESIN) PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WHEN WORKING WITH EPOXY RESIN, YOU MAY ALSO NEED A FILTRATION MASK FOR SAFETY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wire
There are a couple of options to choose from for wire, I keep both in stock. You'll notice they have the exact same specs, but the AliExpress wire is much thinner.
0.3mm (28 gauge) wire ($15.49 on Amazon, enough wire to make 7-8 trees) || Suitable for 3-bead branches or metal bead branches.
FAIR WARNING: If you use the Amazon wire, prepare to bleed a bit. It is wicked sharp at the ends and will scratch or poke through skin easily.
0.3mm (28 gauge) wire from AliExpress ($0.99 - $3.00 per roll, enough wire to make ~5 trees per roll) || Suitable for 5-bead branches using seed beads with occasional inclusions.
If you're new to tree making, honestly I'd recommend ordering the AliExpress wire. The Amazon wire is brutal on the fingertips at first, the AliExpress wire is more like thread.
The wire in the image below is the AliExpress wire. It doesn't come with the nifty holder, I made that myself.
Tumblr media
Beads
You can really go nuts with the beads, there are very few guidelines:
If you're doing a 5 bead branch, you'll want 4mm (6/0) seed beads.
Chip beads are great for 3 bead branches.
You want a bead with some flat side, pure spheres are kind of a pain in the ass to twist on the wire. Absolutely do-able, but annoying.
I'll also get novelty bead shapes (flowers, ribbons, butterflies, etc.) and mix those into 5-bead trees as fun little inclusions (you can see examples further down)
Tumblr media
--- Step by Step below the cut ---
Step 0: Mix up 20 mL of epoxy resin and pour it into the bottom of the mold you're using.
Resin can take 24 hours to set, so you'll want this done before you get to Step 10.
You don't need a lot, just a thin thin layer right at the bottom, colored or not.
In the image below, you can see that there is 2-3mm of just clear resin as the base. You can add inclusions (like glitter) or whatever you want, you're just making a protective base for the mold for later.
Tumblr media
Step 1: Cut a length of wire just a bit longer than your keyboard.
It's a bit more than you probably need, but you'll get a feel for the right length.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Wrap your beads, either 3 or 5 per wire. If you're using the AliExpress wire, be a bit careful, that wire can break if you twist too hard.
Again, if you're using the Amazon wire, do not attempt the 5-bead branch. More often than not, it will snap.
FAIR WARNING x2: If you use the Amazon wire, prepare to bleed a bit. It is wicked sharp at the ends and will scratch or poke through skin easily.
In my experience, the AliExpress wire is too thin to manage that easily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 3: Trim both ends of the wire so they're the same length, then make a little loop to connect them.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Put that loop into the Pin Vice (the little pen-like tool) and tighten it as much as you can. In my experience, the Pin Vice was really stiff at first, and it can really chafe your fingers getting it to tighten or release. It's a clunky tool, but worth it.
**You will have to twist it down harder for the AliExpress wire, that has a tendency to pop out. The loop you made is to give the clamp more to grab on to.
If you ordered the Pin Vices linked, be aware that each of the 2 “Pens” has 4 clamps within it (each end unscrews, you can pull out the middle, and flip it.
You need the second smallest option. It took some time for me to find the right one...
Tumblr media
Step 5: Twist for Eternity.
This is the part where you have to be a little weary of your wrist, it's a lot of repetitive motion. You can lay the pen tool flat on a desk and push it with your hand to spin it that way and spare your fingertips, but it doesn't really save you anything overall.
You only use the Pin Vice for this step, do not use it for any later step that twists wires!
If you're using the Amazon wire, you won't get as fine of a twist as you see in the photo, the wire will break first.
When you take the wire out of the vice, the clamp might stick in place when you loosen it. Pinch your wire right at the base where it goes into the vice and shove that metal back in. It will pop and you can easily pull the wire out.
Tumblr media
Step 6: Repeat Steps 1-5. A Lot.
I make 36 branches per tree.
If you're using 3 beads, that's 108 beads.
If you're using 5 beads, that's 180 beads.
What I usually do is bead sets of 9 branches, then twist the wires. Or I'll do all the beading, then all the twisting.
Tumblr media
Step 7: Create stacks of 3 branches and twist them together with the pliers
It can look nice to stagger the branches a little, but only 1-2mm.
Put the pliers close to the base of the branches, maybe 1cm down max.
Only twist for 1cm or less. You'll get a feel for how much to twist here to get the density of branches you want.
Fan out the beads a little when you're done to puff it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 7b: IF YOU ARE USING AN INCLUSION BEAD
With 5-bead branches, I like to do inclusions. Bells, flowers, etc.
For an inclusion branch, for the first bead (the one at the very top middle), use whatever inclusion bead you want. In the photo below, I added flowers.
Sandwich that strand between two "normal" strands, and twist together.
Tumblr media
Step 8: Repeat until you have 12 bundles of 3 branches each.
Take 3 bundles of wire and combine them the same way you did the individual branches.
Only twist 2-3 times around, you really barely need them connected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 9: Once you have 4 of these bundles of branches, start combining them to form a tree!
You'll get a feel for how to do this, but what I usually do is combine 2, then feed in one more, then feed in one more, each time barely twisting. Just enough to create a staggered branch look.
At some point, it will become easier to use your hands instead of the pliers.
Using your hands will create a smoother trunk, using the pliers will add harsh ridges and give it more of a bark look.
Tumblr media
Step 10: Go nuts with the "roots"
If you did not do Step 0 (a thin layer of resin in the base of your mold, DO THAT FIRST) otherwise, the roots will poke holes through your mold.
Just grab random bits and start twisting, randomly drop wires as you're twisting.
FAIR WARNING x3: If you use the Amazon wire, prepare to bleed a bit. It is wicked sharp at the ends and will scratch or poke through skin easily.
Bend wires after twisting, tree roots don't run straight.
Basically do whatever the hell you want, just be mindful of the size of your silicone mold.
You really cannot set the tree down once you start making the roots. I tend to hold it while I do the roots, but you can also use the Helping Hands at this stage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 11: Use the Helping Hands to hold your tree in the mold, then fill with epoxy resin.
For a thinner base, you'll need to keep the roots pretty flat. I do that by gently curving the roots down as I'm making them, so when I press the tree into the base, they're more inclined to flatten out.
Thicker bases, you can add more lateral movement to the roots, making them stand up more.
Add inclusions to the resin (color, glitter, beads, etc.), and pour it until it covers the roots.
Minimum, I like to add a little teeny bit of opal mica powder, just to give the base a hint of shimmer.
Let resin cure for 24 hours.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why do I use resin instead of attaching the tree roots to a geode or other object? Because I have a curse on me where any glue that I touch will not dry.
So I have to use resin until the curse is lifted.

2023 Wrap Up
December 31, 2023
This year has been an emotional roller coaster with very high highs and very low lows. But let's focus on sewing and historical stuff!
Goal Recap
I had two main goals this year - starting my SCA-appropriate wardrobe and stashbusting.
Originally, I had wanted to jump right into the fitted cotehardies of the late 1300s, but that didn't work out. For one, those are difficult to fit, and patterning the dresses would have taken as long as (if not longer than) sewing one. I also would have wanted to splurge on linen and wool, which wasn't quite in my budget.
I did, however, throw together some basic Roman-ish garb (perfect for summer events), make two basic tunics (more appropriate for the 1200s) from thrifted sheets, and acquire some accessories to really pull the look together.
That means I have enough garb to wear at SCA events, and my goal has been accomplished.
As for stashbusting, well... seven of my projects did come from stash fabric. I bought fabric for five projects (which did get used already). I also acquired small quantities of some other fabrics, all but one of which was free.
I'm going to say I broke even on that one.
Project Recap
My 2023 sewing projects were (in more-or-less chronological order):
Another "Boardwalk Duet" top from the Wearing History pattern (stash fabric)
Patched/reinforced my favorite pajama pants with flannel scraps (stash)
1940s 'camiknickers' from Mrs Depew Vintage pattern 2010 (stash fabric)
Altered Regency petticoat to increase hem circumference (stash)
Blue Regency lace-up bodice with ribbon trim (stash fabric and trim)
Edwardian combinations with blue accents from the TV pattern (stash fabric)
Roman-ish chiton and palla for an SCA event (bought both fabrics)
Regency open robe in shot dupioni using American Duchess/Simplicity 8941 (stash fabrcic)
Periwinkle velvet panties to match bralette from last year (stash fabric, purchased elastic)
Moved around the patches on my denim jacket
Blue canvas tote bag (leftover fabric from my corset, plus additional stash fabric for the lining)
Black velvet handbag for a friend's wedding plus three drawstring pouches for bridesmaids (mix of stash and purchased fabric)
Two basic t-tunics for SCA garb (thrifted fabric)
Linen veil and wimple set for SCA garb (purchased fabric)
Tree skirt for one of my grandmother's themed trees
Misc Recap
I'd like to commemorate some-sewing adjacent stuff I did this year, too!
I swatched, measured, and catalogued my entire fabric stash, with the exception of scraps.
I also organized my button stash. Sets of buttons were sewn onto cardstock, while singles are divided into small containers - one for black/white/clear buttons, one for brown buttons, one for pearly grey and white buttons, and one for all the miscellaneous colorful ones. There's also a small bead organizer in the box for sets of shank buttons.
I learned to pattern and sew kiss-clasp purses! Or at least one. I made it as a gift for my friend who got married, and it felt like a brilliant culmination of what I've learned in terms of sewing.
I also learned some simple wire-working skills to expand my SCA accessories. First, I learned how the Romans made the beaded links in their jewelry and used that to make two necklaces and two pairs of earrings. Second, I learned to make both plain and beaded fibulae (basically safety pins).
Current UFOs
My grandmother's shirt - take in the princess seams slightly at the top and reattach the sleeves
1890s corset cover - i need to finish the neck, armholes, and hem with bias tape, attach the front placket, and add buttons and button holes
I accomplished more sewing-related stuff than I expected to this year, and I think joining the SCA gave me a big push in the right direction. It was nice to work on things knowing that I would have somewhere to wear them.
Stay tuned for my goals/predictions for 2024!
Until then,
Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

#LOMO STUDIO HANDCRAFTED JEWELRY HOW TO#
This next necklace was designed to wear alone or with a layer of other necklaces. An old watch face, vintage buttons, keshi pearls, rhinestone earrings, brass stampings, silk ribbon and even an old dog tag were used to create this sentimental bracelet. I found the antique monogrammed locket at my favorite antiquing stomping grounds in PA, just like the button. The antique button was used as an off-center focal.įor this next assemblage-style bracelet, I gathered up all sorts of vintage bits and baubles that I had been collecting. For this necklace, I stitched a few favorite mother of pearl buttons on to brass stampings and used brass wire to connect the button links together. I held on to it, waiting to make something special. The button stood out with its beautiful cut steel, brass, and mother of pearl details. It was just sitting there on a table mixed with all sorts of stuff. Last year, I found this amazing antique button. Shown here in sterling, brass, and a copper and sterling wire mix. In this wire-wrapped bangle, I challenged myself to take a link from my book, The Missing Link, and turn it into a bracelet! The entire bangle base is one length of wire, and 3 gauges of wire were used. I’m hoping to find more stones like this when I ever get to a bead show again. I wanted to showcase a simple rough-cut rutilated quartz bead. I’ve gathered up photos that I took myself before I sent my jewelry to the wonderful people of Stampington. With all the activities in the last few months, I neglected to share pictures of my jewelry designs that were featured in the Jewelry Affaire Winter 2015 issue. With the change in season, Spring issues of the latest jewelry magazines are popping up. Her best-selling jewelry design book, The Missing Link, was released in the Fall, 2013. She is the co-founder of artBLISS, hosting jewelry and mixed media workshops in the DC area. Thanks for stopping by!Ĭindy Wimmer is a jewelry designer with a passion for combining vintage elements with modern wire design. You can find these designs and instructions in Jewelry Affaire Spring 2015. There’s one more necklace to this collection – will post that one soon! Layers of turquoise and silver! Just for fun, I combined necklaces from my previous blog post. Coiled wire adds great dimension – here I used several gauges of sterling wire along with twisted wire, wrapped around the crescent. I used sheet metal to create a semi-circle, and added texture. I decided to make a completely handmade focal just for these special beads. I had been saving this graduated strand of turquoise beads for quite some time. I’ll also show a simple step to adding patina to brass wire. We’ll review wirework essentials such as simple loops and wrapped loops, along with coiling techniques.
#LOMO STUDIO HANDCRAFTED JEWELRY HOW TO#
** I’ll be teaching how to make these earrings locally in VA at Stars Beads this Fall. Now how about a sweet pair of wirework hoops? The coiled wire adds a bit of texture, framing a carved mother of pearl flower. I used faux leather suede to finish the necklace, complete with a wirework clasp. It was fun creating all sorts of dangles using a seed-bead embellished vintage key and a herringbone wrapped faceted bead. I included some of my favorite stones – from smoky quartz to little brass cubes. This is a wirework twist of a charm-holder necklace. I hope you’re enjoying summer too! Before I wait another day, today I’m posting pictures of jewelry that was published in Stampington’s Jewelry Affaire. We’ve been off enjoying summer – travel to exotic places (pictures to come), the beach, and just soaking up my favorite season for as long as possible. So nice of you to visit my little corner of the world.

taglists and ts under the cut
Katya is dressed in a brilliant red velvet gown whose floor length skirt trails behind her. Gold is embroidered onto the hem of the skirt and the bodice, supported by a thin red strap that curves around her neck. Her orange hair covers her shoulders in loose curls, two parts on either side pulled back from her face and secured with a ribbon on her head like always. She wears no jewelry on her pale, freckled skin, and the neckline of the gown teases her breasts.
In a few minutes, one huge golden ring will sit on her right middle finger. Nikolai pictures it now.
Beautiful and mighty, she’s sitting on the old throne of the temple, from when this was the palace and Aspiania was the capital. The fingers of her left hand curl over the white armrests, and she leans her head back onto the red cushion there. Green eyes dulled behind the wire frames of her spectacles have the power to freeze an empire, a whole world.
Nikolai is more interested in the drawn golden sword in her right hand.

Esme is wearing custom made robes in a beautiful mix of red, dark blue, and purple, with a sash and hems of shimmering gold. Embroidery of the sun and moon decorate patches in tiny patterns, stars covering every inch of them.
In traditional Tan style, they wrap around his shoulders and tie at his waist with the knot in the back, the sleeves loose and flared out at the wrists. They go down to his feet, covered in polished black boots. His black hair is sparkled with gold dust, but it’s forever too long and strands fall into his eyes.
He grins when he sees Laurent across the temple for the first time, dopey eyed, as Laurent’s soul evaporates from his body. It’s a remarkable testament to his self-restraint that he doesn’t cross the temple in three strides and tackle Esme to the ground.
~
Feryn looks truly like an angel, or a god, or grace incarnate. No veil covers her head, but her white hair hangs loose round her face. Cygnus was expecting curls, or a braid with flowers, or an updo with a diamond circlet wrapping her hair. But the reality is plain. And it’s beautiful.
She’s wearing cosmetics, he’s sure, but he can’t see them well. Her brown eyes just look a little brighter than normal, her lashes a little longer, her cheeks a little fuller. She smiles at him with warm eyes and pink lips.
Her gown is something he’s been looking forward to seeing and endlessly imagining ever since she and Lian got engaged. Like her hair, it’s much simpler than expected. The fabric is shiny like satin, the straps thin and the bodice plain like the gown Evan wore to her bridal shower.
Unlike Evan’s, the neckline dips, and the skirt of Feryn’s dress is slim. Feryn must be wearing shoes with tall heels, because Cygnus knows she isn’t naturally this tall. Or perhaps it’s just her posture, the straight back, the easy, content way she holds herself.
~
Feryn, who asked Cygnus to trust her when he asked what he would be wearing at the play, dresses him in bright red silk robes with drapes over the shoulders that blow out behind him. She says she had them made especially for tonight. Cygnus is rendered speechless, reminded of the luxury he lives as king. Feryn seems only pleased.
The shoulders and collar are decorated in sapphires and embroidered in gold. The robes don’t allow trousers to show that much, so he wears plain black. Feryn chooses polished black shoes with gold trim, and a red and gold clip for his hair.
When he looks in the mirror, he thinks he’s dressed for the most pristine play in the whole country, not Cherie’s little central company.
~
“Valerie—” Ruby begins, words dying in her throat as Cygnus holds up a hand. A rich sapphire ring adorns on his hand, and that’s not the only finery he’s wearing. His silk jacket of dark green is bejeweled with glittering gems and delicate piping. His boots are shinier than she’s ever seen them, and with his purple cloak and combed hair, he’s obviously going to meet someone important.
~
Like every other lady in the castle, Ruby allows Feryn to force her into nice clothes. She refuses the robes Feryn brought out, heavy red velvet, and chooses instead black breeches, a fine shirt, and an ornate jacket. The jacket is dull green, trimmed in gold and fastened with gleaming buttons. Ruby pulls on a new pair of black boots and actually gives some thought to her hair, after a moment permitting Feryn to braid it down her back. It’s all tedious to her, but she’ll endure it to keep poor Cygnus company.
~
“Come in,” came Alea’s voice at my first knock. I opened the door, watching Moureen muttering and fussing over Alea’s dress. The mix of sea greens and blues complimented her beautiful hair, some curls braided into a crown around her head, the rest lying around her shoulders. I couldn’t hold back a grin.
“What?” she asked.
“You look beautiful. I have something for you,” I said, bringing forth the box from behind my back and thrusting it into her hands. I motioned for her to open it.
“Oh, Bren, you didn’t have to—” She opened it, her mouth falling open. “Oh, my—” Alea turned and set the box down, picking up the jade and sapphire teardrop earrings that I’d bought her in the shop. It must’ve been the gods’ will for the dress and earrings to match perfectly, making her green eyes stand out. She looked every bit the duchess, every bit a queen.
~
Alea was in a stunning gold ballgown that glittered and shone when she moved. The skirt was embellished with pearls and diamonds, dripping and glittering. Her hair was up, a white flower hairpin keeping it out of her eyes. She smiled, and her green eyes looked even more beautiful than ever. I told her so. She laughed like she didn’t believe me.
~
More footsteps came to the door. I glanced up at Moureen, who was coming in with my freshly shined shoes. Thales hovered in the doorway in front of Lakus. I looked him over, taking in his bright blue jacket, adorned with gold trim and beading. The finished jacket looked much better now than it had during yesterday’s boring afternoon in the store. I found myself catching my breath.
He gave me a small smile. “You look good. The green, uh, looks good.”
I did something with my hands. “Thanks, I guess.” My jacket was well done. Light green and silver, pearl buttons and dark stitching. I chose the silver just to get on Lakus’s nerves, since I knew Danda couldn’t care less about whether people wore gold or not.
Lakus, by contrast, had bright, gaudy orange on. There was so much gold on him I could feel the money, and I grimaced, looking away from him after a glance.
~
Cerrick doesn’t recognize anyone else in the purples, reds, yellows, but he sees his man in the center of the pack in bright blue and green armor, cloak fluttering out behind him. his horse is gray, mottled with black spots, shorter than the rest. His sword is gleaming in his right hand, black gloves clutching the hilt like one born to it. His braid sticks out of his polished blue helmet, shining in the sun. Cerrick doesn’t care if Olin laughs at him for his reaction, he still curses softly under his breath.
Njord is beautiful.
The knights run a few casual circles around the stadium, waving to the crowd. Cerrick watches the crowd hand their knight of choice bracelets, charms, wreaths with fresh flowers braided into them.

Here’s one of the more basic wire wraps I have done so far.
I’m not 100% sure of the stone in the photo, most of what I have I have identified or have an idea, some I’m going to need a consultation to be sure.

❝ i'm afraid that's just the way the world works; but i think that it could work for you and me. ❞
"HENRY."
Aniya's eyes widened as the boy stepped into the diner, the right side of his face red and bruised. She stood from her chair and rushed to stand in front of him, reaching her hand up slowly to touch the purple marks that began to appear on his face. Henry flinched away, eyes squeezed shut as if doing so would lessen the pain. Aniya grit her teeth together, and Ruby walked over, handing Henry an ice pack.
"Who did this to you?" Aniya asked as Ruby led Henry to an empty seat by the counter. A burning feeling filled her chest as she watched him wince at the cold feeling against his cheek, and she stood with her fists clenched despite Ruby's warning look.
"I-I-It doesn't m-m-It doesn't matter," Henry murmured, eyes glued to the floor.
She opened her mouth to argue, but shut it when she noticed the sad look on Ruby's face. The older woman's red lips were turned into a frown as she rubbed Henry's back comfortingly, and Aniya knew the answer immediately. She shut her eyes and took a deep breath, burying her anger and the magic that would inevitably come with it. Instead, she took her seat next to Henry and watched as he turned to face the counter, glassy eyes trained on the counter top.
A tear slipped from his eyes, lips trembling as he held the ice pack to his cheek. Aniya mentally scrolled through a list of things to say, before she realized there was nothing she could say that he hadn't already heard. Instead, she moved carefully, turning to rest her head on Henry's arm. She fought back the sobs that wracked her body, shutting her eyes as she whispered to him,
"I'm sorry. Stay alive for me. Please."
Aniya had known this fear before. It was common for Viking men to treat their children terribly, and the people she loved had never been strangers to their cruelty. Vihaan and Niklaus in particular would come to her with bloodied faces and bruised ribs. Her brother had always been the golden child, but had taken the fall for Aniya's actions countless times.
"Love should never be punished," He'd told her, as if it had justified what he'd done. His efforts had been sweet in the moment, when he swore that he was all right and that his injuries would heal eventually. His thought process would change within a few days, when she found him in the forest with nothing but a length of rope in his hands. It had been Niklaus Mikaelson that talked him down each time this happened.
Dread filled her body as she held Henry's arm close to her. She knew when they met that Henry Pearl had radiated an inexhaustible light, and she didn't wish to imagine a world where it went out.
"I'll try," Henry said.
It was in that moment that she wished she'd woken up sooner. Before the world could even lay a finger on Henry Pearl, she wished she could've saved him.
She rested her forehead against his arm, eyes shut as she murmured the words, "I love you," beneath her breath. She'd said it more for herself than anything else, hoping it would ease the troubled feeling in her chest if she admitted what she knew to be true. As if admitting it would cause Death to turn its back on someone like Henry Pearl.
"Jag är kär i dig, också, " He murmured. Aniya thanked the gods for her upbringing, otherwise she might not have known what he said. She smiled through her tears, and they sat there as the time passed. Ruby stood at the other end of the diner, cleaning and taking care of the few customers that came in during the late hours of the night. They sat in silence, until Henry pulled a small box out from his pocket and slowly moved it towards her.
"What is this?" She asked, brows furrowed as she looked at the flattened white bow tied.
"O-Open it," Henry told her, his heart racing as she reached for the box. He swallowed nervously as she untied the ribbon and slowly opened the box, revealing the ring he'd worked on a few hours ago. The different gold wires wrapped around each other to create a band, and encircled a small garnet stone at the center. It resembled the older jewelry Aniya had seen in the village, worn by the Elders as a way of protecting themselves from dark spirits. Still, there was something unmistakably Henry about it. Some part of the small circlet that she would look at and remember as Henry, and Henry alone.
She bit her lip and looked up at Henry's pale green eyes, and she wanted to tell him being loved was a talent, too, for it was in moments such as this that she wondered if he knew how it felt to be loved unconditionally -- or if he had, and he'd somehow forgotten it. She wanted to tell him that it takes as much courage and as much work as loving; though, for some people, they never learn the knack. She prayed Henry wasn't one of them.
"I hope you're not proposing," She said with a chuckle. She reached for the choker beneath her sweater and pulled it off, bending the leather to slide the ring onto it and create a makeshift pendant. She smiled up at Henry and tied it back around her neck.
His pale lips formed a small smile, light green eyes lighting up in amusement. Aniya leaned forward and pressed a small kiss to his lips, sliding her wedding ring off her finger. His lips were softer than she'd imagined, and tasted of strawberry chapstick. She held his face in her hands and pulled away, looking up at Henry as she waited for his reaction. His eyes were wide, and he was vulnerable. There seemed to be something so tragic in a victim so colored by vulnerability.
After a few moments, Henry arose from his seat and began preparing a milkshake. Ruby assured him that she would let him have the night off. He frowned and shook his head, "N-No, I wanna..."
Henry prepared a vanilla milkshake and placed it in front of Aniya as he placed whipped cream at the top. She took a sip and he scooped a bit of the cream onto his finger, wiping it on her nose. She broke out into a smile and reached to do the same. Before he could respond, the door swung open, and she heard a familiar voice.
"So, this must be the human you've been leaving the house to see." Kol grinned as he marched into the small diner, a smirk painted across his face. "I must say, I thought he would be more handsome."
Aniya winced at his tone, and moved her body slightly so she stood in front of Henry. "How did you find me?"
"Love, we've had this conversation. Powerful little witch, remember?" Kol reminded her and went to sit at the counter, a seat away from her. "It might interest you to hear, but I spoke to one of my old witch friends here in the Quarter. As it turns out, you're a Tyaag witch. At least, that's what you're called these days. They don't have a very good reputation in the community, so they're very rarely written about."
"Why?"
It was Henry that spoke this time. "They have r-r-reputation for failed sacrifices."
"Oh, good. You're not utterly useless," Kol smiled up at Henry. The human boy shrunk back and took a step closer to Aniya, despite the counter that separated them. Kol turned his attention back to her and explained, "The sacrifices don't work if you cheat. You, thankfully, didn't marry your brother, and therefore, you two were forgotten and never heard from again."
"N-No, they would've been forgotten e-even if it w-worked," Henry pointed out. "Th-the point of, um, the point of T-tyaag witches is they sacrifice their o-o-old life for a n-new one, so..."
"Right," He shrugged him off. "Well, from what I've gathered, you're quite powerful. You could probably make my brother bend to your will if you tried."
"I don't want to do that," Aniya responded, swirling her straw through her milkshake. In the thousand years that she'd been dead, the Mikaelson brothers had managed to turn on each other. Niklaus and Elijah seemed to be rather close, while Kol stuck to himself and Rebekah floated in-between. She didn't know much about Freya. From what she was told when she was younger, Freya should've been dead.
"Yes, I suppose you're rather biased in that sense," Kol rolled his eyes. Aniya frowned at his behavior, but he ignored her. "Regardless, I was promised a few notes from the New Orleans witches. Once we master a few simple spells, you'll be able to resurrect your brother and return my memories."
"You need to stop," Aniya hissed. "There are humans here."
"Relax, darling, your human's already signed his death certificate. There's no point in acting this way," Kol chuckled bitterly. "Or haven't you heard? Loving a Mikaelson is a death sentence."
"I am not a Mikaelson."
He narrowed his eyes at her. "No. I suppose not."
Aniya bit the inside of her lip and turned to Henry. "Could you stay in the kitchen for me, please?"
Kol rolled his eyes as Henry walked to the back of the diner. His eyes drifted to Aniya and she grabbed hold of his jacket, pulling him outside of the diner and behind the building. Once they were out of hearing reach, she snapped.
"What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?"
"I'm sorry, I thought you wanted me to help you. I've singlehandedly found a way for you to both resurrect your older brother and restore the memories of the people you claim to love. I suppose you should be thanking me."
She clenched her jaw. "Do you want me to feel caught? Is that how I'm meant to feel?"
"You're flirting with another man while wearing your wedding ring--" Kol lifted her left hand, only to see that it was completely bare. His expression fell. Aniya looked at him blankly and slipped the ring out of her pocket, placing it in the palm of his hand. His stomach fell at the sight of the old, worn ring.
"You are not my husband. You cannot tell me how to live my life, and who I am allowed to love when it is another woman you are aching for each night." Aniya pushed his hand towards him as she looked at him, disgusted. "Do not ever speak to me that way again."
They stared at each other for a few moments, before Kol sighed. "All right. I'll fold." He paused. "I can't say much for that witch watching over your little human, though."
Aniya's eyes widened and she rushed into the diner, only to see an older woman sitting at the counter, smiling up at Henry. Her nostrils flared and she took a few steps forward. "You're a New Orleans witch?"
She spun around, her red lips forming a smirk when she locked eyes with the smaller girl. "I am. The name's Keres. You must be the Tyaag Kol mentioned."
Aniya glanced up at Henry. "How much does he know?"
"Just witches." Keres leaned to ward Henry and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I could tell him more if you'd like--"
"No!" She spoke quickly, raising a hand to stop her.
Keres stared at her with amusement, but she sat back down. Aniya rushed behind the counter and stood in front of Henry. There was something wrong about Keres. Something about the older witch that made her nearly impossible to trust, and she wasn't quite sure where she could rely on Kol's judgement.
"So, you know the basics about Tyaag magic. An eye for an eye, a life for a life?" Aniya nodded timidly, and Keres continued, "You must have been the dense twin, then."
Henry opened his mouth to defend her, but Aniya stopped him.
"I guess I have to spell it out for you," Keres sighed. "If you want to bring back the memories of seven people, you have to erase the memories of seven people."
Aniya stiffened at her her next words, and she fought the urge to slam the witch through a window.
"Oh, and you have to kill someone if you want your brother back." Keres nodded toward Henry. "He can go first."

Alternative Scrolls
Scrolls can take many forms other than a simple slip of parchment. All a scroll really needs to do to work is be a one-time-use consumable spell. Try making your scrolls unique, so they might not even look like a scroll. Perhaps your character could create scrolls as these sorts of items.
Art. Carefully crafted artwork, whether a painting, sculpture, sketch, or piece of jewelry, that serves as the scroll. The materials are made from arcane reagents and the scroll can be read using the art’s depiction or perhaps patterns hidden within.
Cloth. The scroll is a woven textile that can be worn, with precious metal threads and rhinestones serving as the costly arcane components. The patterns in the cloth help you read the scroll.
Fetish. A scroll made with various natural and manufactured spell components and artistic reagents all carefully pulled into a totem or fetish. For instance, a staff’s crown, a dreamcatcher, a headdress, a decorated skull, or other such assemblage could serve as the scroll. Interpreting the meaning of the items’ arrangement and choice reads the scroll.
Gemstones. I once had a city of dwarves that didn’t use scrolls but instead stored spells in crystals and gemstones. The gem can be read by observing the arcane energy refracting within. They shine brightly in a flare of radiant light when they cast their spell before disappearing.
Plants. Tended plants that have been grown and infused with the scroll’s magic. It can be read by the patterns in the leaves or petals.
Tattoo/Henna. The scroll is tattooed or drawn onto the body of the user. It could either be the literal scroll or artistic interpretation using arcane geometric patterns.
