When I first watched "Rhythm Inside" (ESC Belgium) in 2015, I had the strangest feeling of excitement but couldn't put my finger on it.

These days I know it's some kind of gender feels - gender envy or gender euphoria even. But at the time I was more than 6 years away from my own nonbinary awakening.

I knew enough to google his pronouns, but learned nothing noteworthy. That's okay. Keep your mystery, Loïc. Thank you for this wonderful performance. 🖤

Loïc Nottet Overview

While the past few days, I've been putting out pieces that are sort of like reviews for albums by Eurovision artists. However, today, I'm going to do quickie reviews for one artist since he has 3 albums out. That artist being Loïc Nottet (Belgium 2015).

To begin, none of his albums have his Eurovision song, "Rhythm Inside." And as I give my review, I will also note my favorite tracks at the end.

Selfocracy (2017): His debut album came out just under 2 years after his 4th place run in Vienna. While the songs kept the experimental nature that "Rhythm Inside" held, it also stood out on their own as Loïc's own style. There is some danceability factor (of course his IS a dancer too). The lyrics focus a lot on themes of bullying as well, talking about its effects on people. Favorite tracks: Mud Blood, Mirror, Poison

Sillygomania (2020): Likely produced before the COVID-19 pandemic, Loïc followed up the smash hit Selfocracy would become with his second album. The songs seem to turn from the darker pop tones of Selfocracy, while still holding the danceability factor and serious themes (this time holding mental health undertones). And together, I could only imagine what listening to this album would have been like in 2020 (I listened to it for the first time in 2021). Favorite Tracks: 29, Mr/Mme, The One

Addictocrate (2023): Wrapping up the list is Loïc's most recent album. While the two previous albums, and his Eurovision song, AND his Candy EP, AND single "Go To Sleep" have all been in English (with the exception of Mr/Mme), he took a turn and created an album entirely in French. And it worked. His style translated very well and produced incredibly beautiful songs and a wonderfully put together album. Favorite Tracks: Mélodrame, Révérence, Cygne

Well, that should do it for now for albums by my favorite Eurovision artists (again, I'm waiting on Sudden Lights to release their 4th album before doing theirs so I can do all 4 at once). Rosie at the flak house is like... he's compartmentalising... he's holding it together, but he's scared that if he stops, actually stops, he won't be able to get in the saddle again. That if he actually thinks about Munster, then he won't be able to stop thinking about it.

It's Rosie keeping to himself almost the entire time he's there, watching from afar - watching his men laugh together and cry alone - but just that, watching, and never with them. It's Rosie not sleeping, it's Rosie and this underlying sense of dread of how the hell he's going to get back in the plane.

Then - it's Rosie's conversation with the doctor. Rosie's the drummer, and yes, he has to keep his own beat, but he has to keep everyone else's beat too. If Rosie's rhythm is disrupted, then his crew's rhythm is disrupted. And it's only then, that pushes Rosie to pull up a chair and sit with and comfort his crew at the flak house.

I was on Instagram seeing a fanart of the Tangotronic from Rhythm Heaven Megamix sleeping in pyjamas on a bed, the digital artwork using a palette of pastel pinks, yellows, and purples. I then saw a YouTube short of someone tufting a rug of the whole artwork. Then, I saw an Inside Edition video of them talking about the rug, saying that it should be intended for adults because “it may contain sensitive content”.

rhythm heaven headcanons because im more sad than i should-

but first of all i have an announcement. and its that today, august 18th in argentina, its children's day and as im 16 im still technically a child to i asked my mom to get me something very specific as a gift. so, in a few weeks or months, dj yellow plushie is coming home! i wanted both yellow and blue, but she could only pay for one, so i chose yellow. hes gonna be with me in conventions from now on, either being tied up on the table so people buy me stuff to free him (/lh), or being my cosplay pal. thats all. if you wanna follow the dj yellow plushie adventures, follow me on instagram berry_lemon_arty, and if you cant find it, try with watashime_vkipper. its the same acc, but im changing the user soon to watashime_vkipper when i go back to my showroom. ANYWAYS lets go with the headcanons (and idc if i repeat some from past posts, i cant remember what i said)

-J.J is someone very insecure, actually. and lets out his anger on others (ahem, Yellow). but when he met Cecil, things changed a bit. Cecil allowed him to be angry, sad, disappointed, and make questions that were a call for reassurance

-Yellow has worked restlessly to buy a ticket to see Kikuo, no matter if he was in another country. and he never could- something happens everytime hes going to buy a ticket, and the money goes somewhere else. he cried for days because of that (reference to Kikuo just leaving argentina in this instant, although im not a fan lol)

-Cecil is also a germaphobic, but not as much(?) as Blue is. Cecil can at least touch whatever is contaminated to throw it away or clean it, whilst Blue cant because he feels like hes gonna pass out

-Yellow has been more time in a mental hospital than in school.🧍

-for a time, Blue was convinced he only signed up to Yellow's dj classes because he fell in love with him at first sight. it was during the time he was unsure how to express himself

-remember that Yellow's spirit animal is Len Kagamine? but its also Angel Dust, and possibly Spinel for how flexible he is. breakdancing? he can do it. pole dancing? he can do it. parkour? he can do it. lyra dancing? he can do it. dance trapeze? guess what. HE CAN DO IT. has he ever broken a bone or something? surprisingly, no. the only time he did was his right ankle at a comic con, participating on the cosplay contest as Kokoro Tsurumaki dancing Egao Sing A Song. Kokoro uses heels, and he loves them, and knows how to dance and do acrobatics with them. but he jumped and didnt get down very well, breaking his right ankle, but finishing the performance like nothing and winning the best performance prize. he only felt the pain once he sat down, but he did feel something wrong after not getting down properly

-you cant use your fingers to count the amount of times Blue got back home from work and saw Yellow in a female cosplay. and you cant also count the different reactions he had. dont use your imagination that much.

-Cecil is obsessed with Final Fantasy (a reference to Soushi)

-J.J may or may not accidentaly call acoustic guitars, "autistic guitars". most of the times he doesnt notices that

-whenever Cecil went to J.J's house (to his parents', actually), J.J's mom would do that classic "mom-embarassing-son" conversation thing. that way Cecil found out stuff about J.J that he couldnt even imagine lol

Favorite Song From Each Country! Part 23/37: Belgium!

Hello hello everyone! Today we have Belgium to talk about and I'm super excited! They've brought some favorites (or even some late growers) to the contest over time (and brag the youngest winner ever unless they change the rules which I don't see happening now that we have Junior Eurovision). However, the one highlight of Belgium is that they boast a representative that became one of my favorite artists ever, which you will see in my favorite entry.

Favorite Entry: Anyone who read some of my Tumblr posts pre-series would probably recognize the name I'm about to say right now: Loïc Nottet. His song "Rhythm Inside" from 2015 boasts another one of my favorite entries of all time. It was a great start to a great music career for him and it helps that the song is good. Plus, if you like the song, he has three albums out! Selfocracy (2017), Sillygomania (2020), and Addictocrate which came out a little under a month ago. His music outside of Eurovision hits a rather personal note with me, making me feel validated without him really knowing about my existence (aside from a few Instagram story mentions on my side). And through "Rhythm Inside" I was able to open up a box that I never thought I'd open. RANK: 4th in 2015 Grand Final/PERSONAL RANK: 1st of 40 Countries

Thoughts on 2023 Entry: Someone go to March 2023 me (the one who ranked these songs) and SLAP HER ON THE HEAD! I ranked Gustaph's "Because of You" WAAAAY too low where it will be embarrassing when I reveal where I ranked it, so disregard it. It's so fun, and even if I was "okay" with it when it first came out (okay, a lot of it was that I was manifesting a Loïc return which by the looks of it will not be happening...which fine at least I get great music out of it anyways), I noted that the beat was absolutely CONTAGIOUS and may be a force in the contest. I couldn't have been more right. I remember showing my mom a recap of SF2 and was like "Belgium is SO qualifying" and they did! RANK: 7th in 2023 Grand Final/PERSONAL RANK: 32nd of 37 Countries (DISREGARD!)
