Just going to vent for a little bit on a small case of medical negligence I experienced, because I have been having trouble with it again.
A few years ago, my little anxious self (between 14 and 16 yro) went to the hospital because my nose was always obstructed and I had difficulty breathing/sleeping due to it. Me being very anxious meant I couldn't speak properly, therefore I would have trouble explaining what/how I was feeling, so I needed my mum in the room with me but they didn’t let her in.
I sat in front of the doctor and a nurse and they started asking questions about my medical history, I was already overwhelmed with the whole waiting thing, after a few she asked why exactly I was there and I said: "I can't breathe properly".
I kid you not when I say that that asshole turned to the nurse and they both let out loud laughs in my face, meanwhile I was very confused, she had the audacity to say: "If you couldn't breathe you'd be dead kid" while still laughing! I immediately shutdown and couldn't answer anything else, and she just prescribed me some nasal drops and a pill and said you have rhinitis and sent me away.
Needless to say that I was so traumatised by the whole experience that to this day I refuse to go back to the hospital for this particular problem and just self medicate.

It's winter in Brazil right now and I have rhinitis but it's been a while since I had a incident(last time it was awful, I cried because I couldn't sleep[or breathe]) and now my nose is bad again and this is how rhinitis is like for me:
at least one of your nose holes feels almost completely blocked, you put serum to make the snot more liquid so you can blow it, you blow your nose, you feel better for mere seconds until it feels closed again. because of the 'snot' in cavities of your skull that lead to the nose, when you try to blow your nose, the snot from those cavities keeps coming and it feels like blowing your nose is useless because it never gets better
also, my head hurts in a really weird way, it's like there's not inside my head(which is true), normal headache is different, this headache feels "gross". I also feel pain and that gross feeling in places that probably have cavities or near them, maybe it's placebo/psychosoma but idk my face feels pretty gross right now. Because of how much the nose is connected to the mouth my mouth also feels gross, it's like there's impalpable snot, like a ghost snot. When I'm not eating something I feel a weird taste of snot and it just doesn't feel right, it's pretty gross.
my mom said for rhinitis it's good to drink a lot of water to liquify the snot, heat also helps with making it feel better, so I took a hot bath(it didn't help) and she made me wear socks while inside the house(fair)
it seems that I get a rhinitis problem(I don't know how to describe it, sorry) every winter
But really, the memories I have of the last rhinitis I had are harrowing, I felt a lot of anguish, I felt weak because of not being able to breathe, I needed to sleep, my mom tried all medicine she had at home but nothing made it okay, I still felt anguished and couldn't even sleep, we had to drive to a pharmacy at past midnight just to get a more effective medicine. It was hellish. I had many hellish moments in my life but most where made by people and society, this maybe the worst medical issue I can remember(I also got a super deep cut on my leg once but I can only remember the initial moment I hurt myself and nothing else except me remembering it happened while looking at my hypertrophic scar)

dealing with allergic rhinitis: effective strategies to combat symptoms
As someone who has had allergic rhinitis for years, I know how tough it can be. It can really be a pain to have to keep sniffling, sneezing and feeling awkward when you run out of tissue at a critical moment.
Tumblr media
For those who aren't quite sure of what allergic rhinitis is, it's basically inflammation of the inside of the nose caused by an allergen, such as pollen, dust, mould, or flakes of skin from certain animals.
Here are some of my tips on how you can deal with allergic rhinitis:
1. Avoid foods that cause allergic reactions
This sounds straightforward but all too often, it's not that easy to figure out what you're allergic to. For me, it took a long time to find out that eating chicken sometimes caused me to sneeze and build up phlegm in my throat, while eating duck gave me hives. Blueberries and kiwis caused me to have more phlegm as well, thus causing discomfort.
It takes a lot of trial and error to find out what makes your body tick, so take some time to find out if there are particular types of food that you're more sensitive to.
2. Apply IHADA Allerscreen
Tumblr media
This is a gem I found while shopping in Japan. Whenever I feel that my allergy is going to act up or I see the weather getting gloomy, I quickly spray this over my face. It really helps with the sniffling and sneezing!
3. Press acupuncture points
I'm a big believer of traditional Chinese medicine. One of the areas that I massage are the left and right sides of my nose (reminder: the sides, not the nose itself). My doctor presses down on these areas each time I go there and I feel that I'm really able to breathe better after that.
Another area would be to massage your eyebrows, especially the inner corner. There should be a very sore feeling when you press on that spot. If it's painful, stop massaging it as this may not be suitable for you.
For those who get headaches during allergy flare-ups, try massaging your neck muscles. (This doesn't exactly fall under acupuncture points, but this really helps in relieving tension in the head!)
4. Get an air purifier
Expensive but worthwhile. Whenever I feel the haze coming, I switch on my air purifier and feel reborn. My nose is a lot less clogged whenever I do so!
Tumblr media
5. Take an allergy test
I haven't taken such a test yet, but I do know someone who took it and found that she was allergic to honey and grass. Unfortunately for her, she happened to live in an area surrounded by grass and had been ingesting honey every day.
If you're unsure of what exactly you're allergic to, it would be good to take an allergy test. It can help cut down on a lot of suffering!
6. Drip some oil into a cup of hot water
Whenever I feel like my nose is stuffy, I sometimes fill a cup or bowl with hot water, and then drip some scented oil into it. It's usually the stronger type of scented oil that helps to clear my nose, such as mint or eucalyptus.
Tumblr media
7. Wear a mask
This really works, take it from me. I guess sometimes there's just so much dust and pollen and whatever else you're allergic to in the air, that whatever you do doesn't quite work. In this case, it's time to wear on a mask.
I usually prefer surgical masks because it's not so stuffy and has been quite effective so far.
Tumblr media
Hope that these tips can help in reducing the discomfort whenever your allergic rhinitis acts up!

Reviewing questions:
In patients with asthma, there is usually a greater than 20% drop in lung function with methacholine challenge (positive test).
Epistaxis that is prolonged and difficult to control is most likely to be a posterior bleed. Posterior bleeds are associated with the sphenopalatine artery, which arises from the maxillary artery. If medical treatment fails, an otolaryngologist may choose to ligate the maxillary artery because this procedure has a higher success rate than ligation of the external carotid artery. Anterior nose bleeds, on the other hand, nearly always arise from the Kiesselbach plexus. The Kiesselbach plexus is an anastomotic network of vessels on the anterior portion of the nasal septum.
I don't know how to use ventilators, but I got a question on it right and the references included: https://www.thoracic.org/ and https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/304068-overview.
For more information, see:

Common physical examination findings include boggy and pale nasal turbinates in addition to allergic shiners, which refers to darkening of the skin under the eyes secondary to the pooling of blood under the orbits due to swelling in the nasal cavities. First-line medical treatment of persistent seasonal allergies consists of an intranasal corticosteroid, such as budesonide, fluticasone, or mometasone, in addition to conservative measures such as allergen avoidance and patient education. Intranasal corticosteroids may provide some benefit immediately but typically take 2 weeks for peak benefit. For chronic allergies, they may be used safely on a daily basis. Seasonal allergic rhinitis is a clinical diagnosis and does not require additional imaging or laboratory workup.
S. aureus is a beta-hemolytic gram-positive cocci that grows in clusters and is coagulase positive. It is one of the leading causes of both community-acquired pneumonia and healthcare-acquired pneumonia in children. It presents with abrupt onset of fevers, chills, and lobar consolidation and commonly causes cavitation, effusions, and empyema. Risk factors for Staphylococcus aureus infection include foreign body, preceding viral infection, malignancy, diabetes, prematurity, and immunodeficiency. Children with invasive staphylococcus infection should be hospitalized and started on empiric intravenous antibiotics. A definitive antibiotic regimen is based on susceptibility (if the organism is methicillin-susceptible or resistant).
Antibiotics used to treat tularemia include streptomycin (the drug of choice), gentamicin, doxycycline, and ciprofloxacin

Want to post about how comically it is to have chronic rhinitis
For example, somewhere in the winter I thought I had a moderate depression episode and felt so awful like I'm going to fucking lose my mind, I literally wanted to climb to the walls and scream
Turns out it was because my nose was stuffed 24/7 and I couldn't fucking breathe normally especially during sleeping so of course it affected my brain lol. I hate it so much it's such a stupid chronic illness to me, I don't even know it's origin and I joke around that I have allergies to literally everything lmao (I currently think it has both allergic and non-allergic origins hhhhh)

Ayurvedic Management Of Rhinitis
Rhinitis treatment in Ayurveda is based on the philosophy of body dosha management. As discussed earlier, Ayurveda believes that the imbalance of Vata Dosha and Kapha Dosha is the prime factor for this respiratory ailment. It tries to re-establish a balance between the doshas using herbal manners such as home remedies, dietary precautions, yoga, and meditation.
