Leopard gliding frogs (Rhacophorus pardalis) hanging on leaves around a breeding pond into Kubah National Park (Sarawak, Borneo) at night. As the common name says, this is one of the species able to actively glide between two plants thanks to their highly webbed feet. They were pretty common around the pond, not so much in the forest, where they normally stay higher in the canopy. #predatoridelmicrocosmo #malaysia #borneo #macro #wideangle #night #wildlife #pickoftheday #kubah #sarawak #amphibian #rhacophorus #frog #flying #gliding @ilcp_photographers (presso Kubah National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3o_rDlIk2P/?igshid=18fq054xirfzf

Harlequin tree frog - Rhacophorus pardalis
Rhacophorus pardalis (Rhacophoridae)  is the 'flying’ frog a naturalist will most likely find in the primary and old secondary forests of Borneo. It is, of course, a glider rather than a flier.
The large size (50 mm snout-vent length in males, 60–70 mm in females), the bright red hand and foot webbing, in combination with the yellow flanks with black dots, make this frog easy to identify.
This species is known from several localities in Peninsular Malaysia (and Pulau Tiga Island) and is widespread in Sumatra (including Siberut and Sipora), Borneo (Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia), and the Philippines (Mindanao, Negros, Bohol and Luzon).

Black-headed cat snake (Boiga nigriceps) swallowing a panther flying frog (Rhacophorus pardalis) at night. This might be hard-to-watch by someone, but it’s how life works in Nature. An unstoppable flow of energy webbing through the thin crust of this tiny planet that bounces around the sun. Predation is a true engine of life in every ecosystem, and this snake is specialized to hunt frogs in order to thrive and continue the circle of life of its species. #pickoftheday #conservation #amphibian #rhacophorus #snake #reptile #herp #herping #herpetology #night #predatoridelmicrocosmo #venom #boiga #nigriceps #malaysia #sarawak #borneo #kubah @ilcp_photographers (presso Taman Negara Kubah) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnLw8LEnk0I/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8i5672ucnqzv
