Telling the girls from the boys. . Establishing the sex of powerful owls in the field just became a bit easier. After measuring and looking at hundreds of images, our Deakin Enviro team have managed to work out how to sex owls from photos. This saves us having to genetically test birds to work out what sex they are and allows #citizenscientists to be involved in monitoring. Check out the paper here (it is open access to anyone) 👇🏼 https://ift.tt/3cTJZpV #birds #birdphotography #owls #HarryPotter #wildlife #deakinenviro #predators #birdsofprey https://ift.tt/2TVGlU4

Wow! The photography coming from @lucynak.wild just gets better and better!! ・・・ Centralian Knob-tailed gecko (Nephrurus amyae) 🦎 Being the largest of the genus Nephrurus (Knob-tailed gecko), these guys are unmistakable in both appearance of body shape and colouration. Found around rocky outcrops, their dusty orange colouration in pair with both the assorted black lines along their body and spinose scales in clumps all assist them to fit in almost seamlessly to their surroundings. 🏜 This gecko is just one of the amazing animals distributed in the heart of Northern Territory's central deserts! . . . #ausgeo #canonaus #canonaustralia #deakinenviro #abcmyphoto #natgeoyourshot #wildoz #natgeowild #exploreaustralia #wildlife #wildlifephotography #macro #macrophotography #cuinthent #herpsofinstagram #herpingtheglobe #gecko #reptile #nature #wildlifeconservation #conservationphotography #naturephotography #australia #northernterritory #nttourism https://ift.tt/2XxRpeG

Our major domestic field programs have largely come to an end, now our students head around the world on our international programs. We will be posting live from our study tour to Borneo in 2 weeks time, and hopefully reposting lots of great shots from our students on their global environmental placements. https://ift.tt/327y0yE
