I can't help thinking about how the casting of Be My Favourite, which at first (and second after the recast) felt so odd, could actually be very cleverly intentional.

When the first trailer was presented at GMMTV Live 2022 we all collectively lost our shit at the casting of Krist and Mike. Not only for the backlash Krist (potentially wrongly) received after SOTUS but also for pairing him with Mike. Two actors who had been in bl pairs before but not for a while and who weren't predicted to do any again soon.

But then Mike got replaced (for whatever reason), and by yet another person who no one saw coming, Gawin. Again, an actor not shy of a few bl pairings but who hadn't lead a show yet and who seemed pretty reserved and not the obvious choice to do another bl.

And looking at Krist/Kawi and Gawin/Pisaeng sat together at the end of ep 7, it hit me that they don't seem like an obvious paring.

And they're really not. They've not even worked together on a series before (as far as I could see on mdl) let alone built up a friendship/relationship on the 'promotional circuit' compared to other newer pairings (I'm thinking Ohm/Nanon before Bad Buddy, or Perth/Chimon going into Never Let Me Go and now Dangerous Romance, who it's easy to picture together from the get go.) And also compare this to Krist and Aye, who have worked together in three other series prior to filming Be My Favourite - and recently too.

So it feels like the show wants us to see the Kawi/Pearmai pairing as the obvious one - just as Kawi does.

It wants us to see the Kawi/Pisaeng pairing as a little odd, or unimaginable - just as Kawi did (and is kidding himself that he still does).

And I love that because, as it's taking time for Kawi (and Pisaeng) to get used to the idea of them as a couple, we also get to do the same thing at the same time.

Their pairing is growing for us as it's growing for them.

And in some ways it's making me feel closer to their journey.

I think it's funny how art is basically distributed and thematically deconstructed the same way class subjects are.

Like math? Break down everything to sizes you can do math with -> cubism, architecture

Chemistry? You focus on ingredients and how they work together? -> expressionism

Physics? Focus on perspective, light studies, etc. -> don't know the name for it, but like, you probably know what I mean. You can also have art installations that represent physical stuff.

Music? -> whatever the artform is called that visualizes sound. And only If you don't count music as art in itself

History? Can be about the topic, about the themes, about the techniques used in history. Distinct epoch forms like Ranaissance, Gothic, modern art, etc.

Biology? -> realism, anatomy studies, etc.

Computer science -> digital art forms

Sport -> 'darstellende Kunst' (dunno the english translation for it). Movement is important in art, beyond animation and the likes.

It all comes back to this. They intertwine, they overlap, but the art styles are separated in such a way that it should have hit me in the face when I was a kid, but beyond anatomy, it never really did. The fact that subjects are divided always made me think that they should stay separated. It made me believe that art is only drawing and replicating.

Now, I'm not going to be an art teacher, I'm actually more into German and math because I dunno. But I would suggest focusing on building the connection between art and other subjects. Children have their passion subjects. Give them an orientation year, show them not the styles, but let them figure out what they like and express their passion in whatever interests them.

That way they don't only focus on their own talents, they start developing their own styles as well.

I'm thinking of abstract phrases to work with art as suggestions. Don't ask for a goal, make them analyse their own mind and maybe even do it wrong, but let them go beyond their imagination:

E.g. 'solve this artwork mathematically'

'[insert chemistry problem here] but make it art'

That's what art is! It doesn't have to be specfic, it doesn't have to be good, even, but this makes you think: what am I good at? Which part of this art project interests me? Is it the technique? Is it the theme? Am I interested in this topic or another? How abstract do I want to be? How do I visualize math?

I think if art was more intertwined with the regular subjects, if you created a direct connection, maybe the pupils would start to be interested more in both. Their interest in art might motivate them to study biology, their interest in math make them wind down in art.

mogh's theme is in my top three for the entire elden ring ost and it's one of the few songs i risk my eardrums for because it needs to be blasted real loud to properly hit.

there's basically a single word sung in it that kills me. in second phase, when after the drop it goes quiet, instruments drawing back and the low voices reducing in number (maybe there's only one mainly heard?) and sounding personal and up close instead of grand and ceremonial and preaching.

and then at the end of a line there's a word that kinda sounds like "praetori" and the lilt of it. sounds like such adoration. disney princess lifts a forest critter on her palm and nuzzles it to her cheek.

combine that with how the low and high voices interact, what the bells are doing. it's so rich in implications.

idk man. the whole thing sounds so much like a monologue (switching to a dialogue, or asides responding to commentary at times) and i keep hearing so many different types of speech in it. makes me want to use words like implore and beseech.

and then the ending is like hands reaching toward the light only for it to cut off.
