dear diary,

My name is Corina Briadis. I am 13 years old. I am someone called a magianis. I do not have magical powers, but it does not mean that I am a boring person.

Existing in a world where everyone has magical powers when you do not have any is difficult. People believe that people like me are freaks of nature. Of course, it is not true, it is not fair, but what can we do?

The society loves magic.

Not having magical powers is rare.

It is easy for people not to meet anyone like me for their entire lives! Because of that, it is easy to "forget" that not all people can use magic... or that magic is necessary to do many things.

If you do not have magical powers, you have to be creative.

I have to be creative if I want to live in the society.

For example, I have to walk a lot because using any technology that requires the use of magic, like teleportation portals, is impossible for me.

I do not like that. I do not like doing sport, but I do not have any choice because I cannot become a mage.

My birth family abandoned me. They did not like the fact that I was born without magical powers.

They are horrible people.

I hate them.

I do not want to see my mother, my father, my brothers or my sisters, or any of my cousins and other relatives ever again.

I hope that they are all dead.

I know that they are all fine.

It is not fair, but there is still time.

My new family is the Wayfarer Order. My favourite teacher, Brissa Varyn, is my mentor and my guardian. She is more like a mother to me than my birth mother ever was.

She has a partner, another teacher, Rindan Cenric, and I like him as well.

There is also a boy around my age by the name of Aeran Kellis who is another student and mentee of Varyn. He is like a brother to me.

Aeran is very brave. He is not afraid to argue with our mentor, Varyn, or anyone else.

I, on the other hand, am afraid of everything.

My future seems very frightening. I have to become a warrior because my new family is full of warriors.

When you join the Wayfarer order, you have to become a warrior.

I do not have any choice here. Even Varyn - who has a true talent for diplomacy and works as the Order's diplomat - is also a great warrior.

And me? I am shy and nervous. When people look at me, I become even more nervous, and when people actually listen to me... no, it is just too weird for me. I have been invisible my whole life and suddenly becoming brave when you are 13 years old is not easy.

Moreover, the people that I have to talk to are often mean, yet I always have to be polite and diplomatic with them.

It is a hard, difficult job.

Unfortunately - or maybe fortunately? - I am better at diplomacy than Aeran. Aeran simply refuses to be polite and diplomatic.

Varyn says that I have a bit of her talent for negotiations.

It is incredible... it is my first time being better than someone at anything... but now if I want the talks to go well, I have to step up and do the talking myself, and I hate this.

I am not a good warrior.

I know that I have to improve.

I do not want to die young.

But it is very difficult and I am so tired...

it’s almost thursday but I’m tagging @hythlodaes @scionshtola @coldshrugs @birues @aphoticfairy @creaking-skull @ghostwise @galadae @newbordeaux @jennystahl @reverienne @erielake @kirnet @musingmycelium because I want to see your things!! not much progress was made on my ffxiv fics this week to share, but I did get consumed by a little pre-DAI thing of leliana ruminating on gabriel, which I’ve been having fun writing from an npc pov on my oc for once shdgh anyway here it is so far:

The world knew him as a hero, but in her heart, he was Gabriel, simply a man.

That wasn’t to say that he wasn’t extraordinary. Though the many tales of his exploits had been exaggerated across the years, as with any good story, the majority of them were true. He survived a besieged castle to unite the unlikeliest of allies and save the continent from the blight. He had slain the treacherous Arl with his own family sword, avenging his fallen family and home, and maneuvered countless politicians with his own noble grace to restore peace amidst tragedy. He served his land as its warden, steadfast in carrying its burdens on his reticent shoulders.

But he was still a man, and no man could be made myth from the dents in his armor, and of those he had plenty.

None of the stories told how his hands shook until Leliana took them between her own and washed away the Arl’s blood. History would not recount the son born to save the Wardens’ lives, a son never knowing his father, and a father never knowing if he made the right choices for him. Nor did they tell of how Leliana held him close by the low-burning fire each night, softly singing his demons to sleep.

Oh, but she knew all of them by name.

❣️ When did your OC first realise they were in love? How did they react to the realisation?

Trey’s a romantic who was attracted to Anora from the get-go, but didn’t realize that he truly loved her until about a year into their marriage. It was a very ordinary moment, too; they were simply working on their paperwork together, and Trey saw how Anora’s eyes were squinting in the fading candlelight to read the words on the page. When he offered to finish her work for her so she could get some rest, she simply shook her head and thanked him, but declined. A very subtle moment, but the one where he realized he had fallen in love with his queen.

💘 What do they love most about their partner(s)? What do their partner(s) love most about them?

For Trey, it’s how much Anora throws herself into everything she does. She’s noble, yes, and she carries herself as such, but there’s never any denying that whenever she does something, she doesn’t do it half-heartedly. He admires that trait and tries to emulate it as much as he can in their reign together, and even (affectionately) feels that it’s hard to keep up with her.

For Anora, I think it would be Trey’s intelligence. He’s an intimidating looking warrior whose appearance was altered by the ordeals at the Circle Tower, so people often expect him to be a brute - he’s definitely anything but. He studies as much as he can to be a good ruler for Ferelden, and often offers insight and a soothing word to situations that perhaps Anora may not have done on her own. And after Cailan, somebody who matches her in wit and knowledge is a refreshing change of pace.

My queen,

I’m sure you’ll not be surprised to hear that the darkspawn remain as pleasant as ever. The situation in Amaranthine has certainly improved since the days of the Architect, and they are no longer the horde that threatened to swallow our world whole… but knowing that isn’t quite enough to make the smell of them anymore pleasant.

I eagerly await the day that I return to Denerim and your side, my heart. We all have our duty, and I wouldn’t dare shirk mine merely to make my return home swifter - yet the thought of you makes that a tempting idea indeed.

But you would surely frown upon such things, and the thought is less tempting than before!

How fares life at court? If you require anything of me, you have but to ask. Even if it’s just to complain about the comments that our friend in Redcliffe is prone to making. (Actually, especially if it’s about that.)

PHYSICAL

Name: Emerald Aeducan.

Nickname: to most people she is either Emerald or Em but when she was a child, her relatives used to call her "Emmie" (even in the Prologue Trian was still using this nickname in a condescending manner). To Sten Emerald is simply "Warden". Alistair, Zevran, Morrigan and Oghren sometimes call her "Princess" and only the context says whether the intention was playful or hurtful.

Age: 23 at the time of her recruitment to the Grey Wardens, had her 24th birthday slightly over a month later.

Species: dwarf (Orzammar).

Morality: (at the time of Prologue) self-proclaimed lawful good, (after the Prologue) self-proclaimed neutral good. It is debatable whether she is truly good or just a neutral with a strong inclination to do good, especially to the people she cares about.

PERSONAL

Religion: officially she believes in the Stone and you cannot prove otherwise.

That being said, she is a chief supporter ONLY of the reformed "church" of the Stone - the foundation stays the same, but the principles are as follows: good people enrich the Stone, assholes weaken it, and your nobility will not save you from the Stone's scrutiny SO YOU BETTER BE NICE.

Sins: greed/gluttony/sloth/lust/PRIDE/~envy~/wrath.

Emerald's greatest fault is her pride. Although the time spent in exile made her, more or less, aware of her shortcomings and able to express genuine humility (or even self-deprecation of sorts), Emerald, deep down, is convinced of her superiority to ALMOST EVERYONE. She knows that she is awesome, she has the papers to prove it, and even if she does not flaunt her superiority in your face, you still ~know~ that she judges you in the categories "If I were you, I would never make any of your mistakes". She goes to great lengths to change it as the Queen.

Virtues: chastity/ CHARITY/ DILLIGENCE/ humility/ KINDNESS/ ~patience~/ ~JUSTICE~.

Ooh, it is a tricky one since Emerald does her best to project an idealized version of herself. That being said, her humility is more often than not depression-induced so it does not really count. Her first marriage was very chaste, but then she did not love her husband and so I would not count is as genuine chastity. She may appear patient but she is still very much struggling with it. She is also very just for someone raised as a spoiled noblewoman, but due to her sheltered life, I feel that she has still a lot to learn.

Known languages: her mother tongue is Common as spoken in Orzammar. 

As Orzammar is a fairly isolationist kingdom, I cannot say how much impact there was on the princess learning foreign languages. A language nerd myself, I like to think that Emerald knows at least a little bit of Orlesian (due to Orlais being Orzammar's best trading partner) and Tevene (due to the dwarven minority living there), but it is purely my speculation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For sure Emerald picks up random words and phrases from Leliana, Zevran and Sten - partially because she is a nerd but mostly because she knows that ~being more understood~ would make them happy.

Build: scrawny/bony/slender/fit/ATHLETIC/~curvy~/herculean/pudgy/plus size/average.

A friend of mine saw Queen Emerald take off her shirt in the shower, and she said that Queen Emerald had an eight pack, that Queen Emerald was shredded.

(She seems curvy only to a non-dwarven eye, though. To dwarves her charms are only slightly above average.)

Height: ???

Scars/Birthmarks: information classified! She was lucky enough not to receive any scars that would be difficult to hide with casual clothing, though.

Abilities/Powers:

1. She is a born diplomat and a pacifist who will do her best to resolve a conflict without unnecessary bloodshed.

2. She is well-versed in Orzammar's politics and her unshakable composure attests to it.

3. She makes excellent first impressions and can befriend people easily. 

4. She is a good leader and advisor.

5. She makes for an empathetic friend who can listen to you rant for hours.

6. She is a good tactician and I firmly believe that she could beat Cullen in chess.

7. She is a trained warrior, by Landsmeet physically stronger than Alistair, who relies both on her smarts, her dexterity and strength.

8. She draws fun and happiness from the world's most boring hobbies which surely must be a some kind of witchcraft.

9. She shares Alistair's sense of humour, enough said.

Restrictions:

1. Her reputation of a fratricidal ex-princess makes any negotiations in Orzammar kind of difficult.

2. She speaks very posh which triggers some people's *Oghren, cough, Oghren* bratty princess alert.

3. Despite being well-versed in politics, she is a bit too idealistic, too merciful, and she used to trust her family members blindly.

4. Her composure does not really falter even among friends which gives off an impression that she is keeping distance... which she is, but not to THAT extent.

5. She is an excellent advisor… until she becomes frustrated because her advice is not listened to and her input is ignored.

6. She is good at listening to people for long periods of time, but if it is not important, she may not give the rant her full attention (getting just enough gist not to be accused of ignoring the person and dismissing the most of it when it is no longer useful).

7. She does not step up for a leadership position, despite her qualifications, unless the circumstances literally force her to do so.

8. As much as tactics go, she is miserable with games other than chess because either she will not realize that her opponent is a cheater (Isabella, round 1) or, which is worse, she will not be able to prove that her opponent is cheating (Isabella, round 2).

9. She is smart and well-trained but not very inspired as a warrior. She could be defeated by stronger people, more dexterous people, smarter people, luckier people or people who, like Kallista Tabris, are very dedicated to their craft.

FAVOURITES:

Food: anything that hails from Orzammar! Nothing makes you long for your local cuisine better than a bitter exile. Also, she would not put herself above eating a nug. Sorry, Leliana!

Pizza topping: (modern AU) corn and mushrooms. Emerald is by no means a vegetarian but she is very picky about meat so in most cases - a vegetarian pizza it is!

Colour: her all-time favourite is purple, but, frankly, Emerald is the embodiment of "Do you like the colour of the sky?" meme. Her exile to the surface made her aware of a brand new palette of colours and she loves them all. That being said, early on her "comfort" colours were the subdued earthy colours of Orzammar.

Music genre: she mostly listens to instrumentals, both in the canon and in the modern AU. She is very picky with songs, though I could see her enjoying a band as “low brow” as ABBA. During her exile she develops a soft spot for Fereldan folk songs and Leliana's Orlesian-Fereldan repertoire. 

Movie genre: Emerald is not much of a movie fan. Generally, she does not have time for them. She mostly watches documentaries with some classics/awards nominated movies thrown in for a good measure. She could be persuaded to watch something entirely outside her watching preferences when quality time with friends is the main incentive.

Curse words: Emerald does not cuss, especially not in public, but I think that there are certain dwarven words she says in her thoughts when the situation goes badly.

Scents: Emerald does not like the smell of the rain and she even agrees with Sten about Ferelden smelling like a wet dog, but during her rule there is nothing she misses more.

FUN STUFF:

Bottom or top: that is disgusting. And wrong. I don’t even get- why would- Her Royal Highness has never had sex with anyone, anywhere. It is none of your- you have- the nerve, the audacity, she is the Queen of Orzammar and about to get married. Warden Alistair is her former companion, barely, and he is just awful, humour-wise. And how- how- do I know, frankly, that you are not sleeping with him? Maybe you are. Maybe you are trying to throw me off? Hmm, check and mate.

Sings in the shower: not all all, she is too aware of her lack of singing talent. Sometimes she hums to herself, though.

Likes puns: all kinds of them, with strong preference to Alistair ones, and ability to make almost EXCLUSIVELY the terrible ones.

pen and paper: do you prefer writing by hand or on a device? why?

I prefer a device because it's easier to go back and correct mistakes, and because my handwriting gets worse the further I go down a page and it irritates me to see it. I can’t imagine having written RHWG by hand, it’s over 200,000 words. People who do write that way are heroes to me, how did books happen before this??

o’connor: what tropes/genres do you dislike writing?

I don't feel like I would be very good at horror och thrillers/mysteries. I don't really like anything that has to do with pregnancy or children, so you'll rarely see that in my writing.

trope: what’s a pet peeve you have about writing?

That it takes so much time to make the words do the thing the way I want. That I struggle so much with promotion and feel like it's difficult to get my work out there in front of people in fandom.

critic: what’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about writing?

Avoid filler words, things like "a blush crept over his cheeks" instead of "he felt a blush creep over his cheeks". Things like this help me get closer to the POV I really want my stories to have.

caro diario,

Mi chiamo Corina Briadis. Ho 13 anni. Non ho i poteri magici, sono una persona che posso essere chiamata un magianis, ma questo non significa che sono una persona noiosa.

Esistere senza poteri in un mondo dove tutti sono magici è difficile. Il mondo crede che tutte le persone come me sono uno sbaglio. Uno scherzo della natura.

Ovviamente non è vero, non è giusto, ma cosa possiamo fare? La società ama la magia.

Non avere poteri è molto raro. È facile non incontrarsi qualcuno come me tutta la vita. Perciò, è facile “dimenticare” che non tutta la gente possono usare la magia... e la magia è l’ingrediente necessario per fare molte cose nella vita quotidiana.

Se non hai i poteri magici, devi essere creativo.

Io devo essere creativa se voglio vivere nella societá.

Per esempio, devo passeggiare molto perché usare la tecnologia che richiede l’uso della magia come il teletrasporto è impossibile per me.

Non mi piace questo. Non mi piace fare sport ma non ho la scelta perché non posso diventare una maga.

La mia famiglia naturale mi ha abandonnata. Non si piace il fatto che sono nata senza i poteri. Sono le persone orribile.

Odio loro.

Non voglio vedere mia madre, mio padre, i miei fratelli e le mie sorelle, i miei cugini e le mie cugine, e gli altri parenti mai più.

Spero che sono tutti morti.

So che sono tutti bene.

Non è giusto ma c'è ancora tempo.

La mia famiglia nuova è l'Ordine di Wayfarer.

La mia insegnante preferita, Brissa Varyn, è una mia mentore.

Anche è un mio tutore legalo. Lei è più come una madre per me della mia madre naturale.

Lei ha un partner, un’altro insegnante, Rindan Cenric, e mi anche piacerlo.

C’è anche un ragazzo circa la mia età del nome di Aeran Kellis, chi è un’altro studente e un protetto di Varyn.

È come un fratello per me.

Aeran è molto coraggioso. Non ha paura di litigare con nostra mentore, Varyn, o qualcun altro.

Io, invece, sono piena di paura di tutto.

Il mio futuro sembra molto spaventoso.

Dovrò diventare una guerriera perché la mia famiglia nuova è piena di guerrieri.

Quando entri nell'Ordine di Wayfarer, devi diventare un guerriero. Non hai una scelta qui.

Anche Varyn - chi ha un vero talento per la diplomazia e lavora come una diplomatica per l'Ordine - è una guerriera molto brava.

E io?

Sono nervosa e timida.

Quando la gente mi guarda, diventerò più nervosa, e quando la gente mi ascolta... no, è troppo strano per me.

Sono stata invisibile tutta la mia vita e diventare coraggiosa quando hai 13 anni ancora non è facile.

Le persone con qui devo parlare sono spesso antipatiche, ma io devo essere sempre gentile e diplomatica con loro.

È un lavoro molto difficile, molto duro.

Non mi piacerlo.

Purtroppo - o per fortuna? - sono meglio a parlare di Aeran.

Aeran semplicemente rifiuta essere gentile e diplomatico.

Varyn dice che ho un po’ della sua abilità di conversazione.

È incredibile... Sono meglio a qualcosa di qualcuno per la prima volta...

...ma ora se voglio una conversazione riuscita, devo essere coraggiosa e parlo tutto da sola, e io odio questo.

Non sono una guerriera buona.

So che devo imparare. Non voglio morire giovane...

Ma è molto difficile e io sono stanca...

@thestarcabal, @bluekaddis, @forceritual, @etoilebinaire, I think I've just pulled out an all-nighter to write a finished short story I kind of, sort of want to publish! BUT it's extremely cursed, I don't even have an ao3 account (which it eventually has to be published on since it's too long to be a Tumblr reply and it needs some fancy formatting that only ao3 can offer) and I need voices of reason/enablers/both.

I wanted to start a Tumblr meme "If your OC had a canon BioWare romance route, how pissed would it make dudebro gamers and why?" and instead of mentally preparing myself for a bunch of short tags like "Kallista Tabris: is a lesbian who won't go out with anyone much older than her - clearly SJW pandering", I wrote a whole review of Emerald Aeducan's romance route from the perspective of a dudebro gamer, though a slightly more eloquent one. And a bit of a forum thread at that because nothing exists in a vacuum.

To be clear: it's all a bit rough (I need to do research how English forum mods scold people for going off topic, I need to make up random nicknames, I need to make my tags work, I need to reread the whole thing a few times once I'm lucid) and I certainly won't publish it during the Pride Month, AKA in the nearest future (the narrator is a despicable human being and with the current global situation, including the recent JKR stunt, we've had enough) but still...

Also the question is: would you be into contributing to "If your OC had a canon BioWare romance route, how pissed would it make dudebro gamers and why?"? I don't mean an entire fake review or anything. It's just... it would be so embarrassing for this little project to fail. (Or maybe someone has already made a similar post and I'm not aware? It's possible.)

To Ania who may be reading this: I swear, it's not my double writing, I'm okay, though I've just written the most crude words I've ever written in my life... which is not much... but I don't use certain words at all and in this fake review I had to.
