Do you know if there are ways to know if a snake from a pet shop has been properly taken care of or not? Asking since i've been visiting some and i saw one with a boa that had some kind of sinking or deformity on his tail, so i'm kinda wary now.
Hello, friend! I'm sorry to tell you that there is not.
I've worked in multiple areas of the pet industry and I've met the full gamut of types of shop owners, and while I don't consider all of them wicked people, some certainly are. Even the best of them have a bottom line to consider. This means that they won't divulge where their animals are coming from so that you can look into a breeder before making a choice, and they're likely buying animals from backyard breeders or bulk importers. This also means that it's unlikely that the animals they're selling will have established health histories.
Having worked at one of if not The biggest reptile chain in Northern California, I saw some horrors that scarred me for life. Among the lesser sins that took place there:
Folks who bred reptiles but didn't have incubators set up could bring their eggs in for incubation services, the price of which was half of the clutch, and the store owner would then sell the resulting babies as "born on-site," which was technically true! But we didn't know the parentage or health potential of any of these animals. We didn't sell incubators in the store for this specific reason.
Surrenders came in regularly from owners who didn't have the time or resources to care for their pets any longer. They went on the sales floor with a price tag the second the previous owner walked out the door. No veterinary care, no health evaluation, no observation period, nothing. If they looked okay they were priced at regular retail price and we were explicitly told to never admit that they had been surrendered. 100% profit.
Any animal that was injured or sickly, no matter where it came from or how it got injured, was tagged as a "surrender" that we would claim was dropped off by a bad former owner and we'd had them cleared by a vet so that we could rehome them. This was a lie. None of them ever got veterinary care, ever.
Enclosures were cleaned regularly but were never properly sterilized between animals. We sold veterinary-grade cleaner in the store but we were not allowed to use it because it was too expensive. We used diluted Lysol!
Again, this is a large reptile chain with multiple stores and mostly positive online reviews* and I wouldn't trust them with a pet rock, let alone anything breathing.
You're much better off getting a snake from a reputable breeder, or at least someone who can answer reasonable questions about feeding, parentage, genetics, any possible health issues, etc.
*the owner actually reported negative reviews and would have employees write good ones while I was there.

AITA for ordering late night pizza delivery?
I’m having a bit of an argument with some friends and need a bit more expanded opinion on this.
So, this is involving me (27NB), my friend who I’ll call A (25M) and another friend who I’ll call B (26M)
I should start by saying we are all food service/retail workers, I work at a chain coffee shop and A and B work at different pizza places.
Now, once a week, my store has a deep clean where we use the heavy sanitizers on everything and get at all the places we can’t daily/when the customers are there. We do this after close so we generally don’t finish until about 11pm. At that point, I go home with no energy to make food. There’s a pizza place I like nearby that I often order pizza from when I get home (approximately 11:30) but they close at 12. I always make sure I give a 10$ bill cash as a tip for the driver since it’s late and dark (more if it’s raining).
Now here’s the issue - I mentioned this in passing and A was pissed that I’d do that when I was a service worker myself. He is a chef in a pizza shop and told me they often start cleaning early when it’s quiet so it’s the worst when someone orders something late at night and they’ll have to reclean everything and it’s a hassle for the delivery driver and everything.
B, on the other hand, is a delivery driver, and thinks it’s fine. His store turns off deliveries 30 minutes before close (the coffee shop I work at does this also), apparently, and he doesn’t mind late drives and late orders as long as they aren’t within the last like 5 minutes, especially if he gets a 10$ tip. I agreed - if anyone put a 5$ tip in my tip jar at work they’re my best friend for the time being.
We don’t know if most places turn the deliveries off thirty minutes before closing or not (like my and B’s stores do) or if the pizza shop I get from does that.
So, A says I’m the asshole for ordering delivery thirty minutes before close and B says I’m not the asshole as long as I keep tipping well and don’t order any later than the time I am ordering at.

The Wonders of Thedas was loud.
Not in volume. Its patrons generally kept to quietly appreciative commentary or salacious whispers for some of the more specialized merchandise, and its proprietors were likewise unlikely to raise their voices.
Though the Wonders of Thedas run largely by the Tranquil who enchanted its artifacts, it was not they who decided its decor and public image, nor was it determined by the Chantry. Some decades past, when Orlais ruled over Ferelden, its nobles took offense to the drab nature of the Tranquil and the shop they ran, and while the shop continued its functions the overseer of Denerim commissioned artisans to update and formalize its appearance.
The Wonders of Thedas was one of few buildings in Denerim to still display Orlesian architectural influence after the successful rebellion that saw King Maric set upon the throne, and though the Orlesian nobles who had overseen it were long since ousted, those who took up the duty in their absence continued the trend.
Nestor had been Tranquil for 3 years now, and he had no feelings as all Tranquil did, but that did not mean he lacked opinions. And he was of the opinion that the Wonders of Thedas’ design was loud.
When he voiced this, his fellows did not understand, though he did not expect them to. He had been particular as a mage, too.
The graceful swooping and brilliant colors of Orlesian design had never suited his tastes when he had feelings, and it was his now objective opinion that he had always been correct. The contrasting colors made it difficult for his eyes to focus on certain parts of the store, something that was undesirable when their goal was to showcase and sell the work of the enchanting Tranquil and fund the Circle.
Nevermind the dust that collected in each ill-advised nook and cranny. The amount of time spent dusting each crevice was excessive, time that could be better spent on any other task. By Nestor’s estimation, they could have one more Tranquil working on enchanting for at least four hours a day if there were less extraneous cleaning to be done.
He brought his observations to the mage and templar who oversaw the Wonders, including his sketches of how to remodel the building to suit Fereldan architecture, built to withstand the weather and without the proclivity to collect dust and dirt in all manner of places, but Nestor was dismissed quickly and told to continue servicing the customers. This was not his job.
Nestor disagreed. Optimizing the Wonders was precisely his job, and interacting with the clientele was apt to dissuade them from making a purchase given how the average Fereldan viewed mages and the Tranquil especially. But he knew that his words held no sway.
So Nestor no longer used words in his effort to fix the Wonders.
It started small. One night, when he was left alone to finish closing the shop, Nestor found a knife, and he used it. He started by carving the many nooks and making them less sharp and easier to clean. When no one commented for days afterward, he decided to take it to mean that his corrections were unnoticed or else were tacitly approved.
So he acquired better tools from the workshop and he smoothed all the filigree and flattened each surface that collected dust in their grooves, and still no one commented on it. As if he were the only one who ever noticed those bits of decor at all.
Nestor thought that boldness was considered among the things a Tranquil could not have; not an emotion per se but something under the purview of Valor perhaps.
And yet he grew bolder all the same.
He grew more skilled in his renovations by the day, and never was he taken off the closing shift of the night. It was only when he acquired paint and covered the colors that had hurt his eyes so that anyone seemed to take notice at all.
The mage proprietor blamed the templar. The templar blamed the mage. Both stewed, but never took their arguments above a whisper.
Nestor found the new Wonders of Thedas was not so loud at all now.

What does a regular weekend look like for princess and Lloyd? Are they the type to try out new restaurants that open up in town or are they more inclined to go to the mall and do some damage at the shops (me thinks Lloyd likes to spoil princess rotten so he doesn’t mind dropping any amount on her 🥰🥰) or maybe they’d do something romantic like get couples massages, etc 🥰🥰
On the weekend, Lloyd does like to hit the shops.
It’s obvious from the way he dresses that Lloyd Hansen is a bit of a clothes horse. Nothing pleases him more than a new shirt, pair of shoes, or piece of jewelry. He grew up in a rural area where there wasn’t much offered in the way of fashion, which is why he enjoys retail therapy so much nowadays. His favorite shops are Hart Schaffner & Marx, Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, Balmain, Loro Piana, and Brunello Cucinelli.
What he really likes, though, is taking Princess along on his shopping excursions.
Lloyd’s initial plan was for the outing to be an indulgence for her, but he quickly realizes that’s not how she operates. Princess is the kind of person who window shops, thinks about her options, reconsiders, goes back and tries it again, and then if she still likes the item, she buys it. He thinks this is an insane way to shop. She informs him that this process ensures that she wears everything she owns, loves the clothing she actually buys, and rarely has to clean out her closet. Still horrified, Lloyd offers her the services of his professional organizer, at his expense. He has someone come in every couple of years and do a closet reset. They even handle the donations. Princess is shocked to discover that kind of service exists. Because it’s hard to persuade Princess to buy, shopping trips usually end up in the men’s stores.
Lloyd is charmed to realize that Princess has excellent taste in men’s fashion. She knows the difference between a New York and Chicago fit suit. Her eye for color helps pick the best tie and shirt combo. She also coordinates jewelry with the outfit’s color palette. Lloyd previously relied on fashion magazines to direct him on how to mix patterns and textures, but she does it naturally. He has to admit, he looks even better than when he takes her input.
Aside from clothing, the kind of shopping he loves most with Princess is jewelry shopping. Lloyd enjoys his rings, watches, tie clips, cufflinks, and even the odd necklace now and again. But the real reason jewelry shopping is his favorite is because of the store layout. You see, the men’s jewelry is located in the back, and the more popular women’s jewelry is kept at the front. Therefore it’s only natural that after walking in, you should stop by the display case at the front. Lloyd insists on it. He keeps a tally of what you’re drawn to, which cuts, color of gemstone, and metal tones. Jewelry isn’t something you buy for yourself very often. So, he makes it a point to give you these things, and he needs the data provided by these visits to choose well. He gets Princess jewelry on your anniversary, birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s day, and at least twice a year for no particular reason.
Lloyd is also a dedicated fitness junkie. Princess… isn’t. She’s willing to hit the gym on occasion, but it’s pretty much based on whether or not she feels like it. Lloyd prefers to exercise outdoors whenever possible. He usually jogs the Mount Vernon trail near his house. To accommodate their divergent interests, he rents Princess a bike. Lloyd jogs fast but with the advantage of wheels it’s easy for her to keep up.
Another thing they like to do on the weekends is go to Lloyd’s cabin. He likes having a place out of the city away from other people. It reminds him of where he lived growing up and he thrives on the peaceful isolation of the woods. Not having neighbors also gives the advantage of not needing to worry about how loud you were… Once that idea sinks in and you cut loose, Lloyd really wants to go to the cabin. Almost every weekend. Of course, you do other things at the cabin too, besides having sex marathons. You take short day hikes, go stargazing, and use the firepit to make s’mores.
Lloyd is a great cook. Princess isn’t.
To try and even up their skills they sign up for a Saturday evening cooking class. This gives Lloyd plenty of time to golf in the morning, hangout with his friends, and relax before they go. After the class, Princess can at least say she knows how to cook. When Lloyd goes on a business trip without her, she won’t be eating out every night. However, there’s clearly one person in their relationship who enjoys cooking, and whenever possible it’s him doing it. Princess happily does the dishes after Lloyd makes her dinner, because who wouldn’t be glad to be doing only half the chores they regularly had to? Plus, she’s eating better than she ever has in her life.
Cooking isn’t the only interest Lloyd brought back from Europe. He likes wine. One of his favorite spots is Tarara Vineyard in Leesburg. He likes the Jefferson Vineyard in Charlottesville and takes Princess on weekend trips to Rhode Island and upstate New York. He enjoys the wine tastings, while Princess is in it for the free gourmet lunch. Now, wine tastings are a bit rich for Princess’ blood. She mostly enjoys them because Lloyd’s commentary and reactions are so amusing. Her view on wine is less adventurous than his. She likes what she likes and that’s what she’d prefer, thank you very much.
What she does like are bookstores, record stores, and coffee shops. She has her own record player and a small but growing collection of vinyl records. Princess loves to visit art galleries and natural history museums, particularly the ones that have lots of fossils. Botanical gardens are high on her list. She goes to the D.C. gardens at least once a month to sit and relax. She’s gone to the Tudor Place gardens, which were established by Martha Washington, to the Meadowlark gardens, and visited the botanical gardens in Richmond.
For a simple low-key weekend at home, though, her perfect day would start with going to the farmer’s market with Lloyd. They buy fresh produce and have a picnic in the park, followed by a movie night. On other low-key weekends, Princess likes to be pampered. She enjoys going to the spa with Lloyd for couples massages, facials, and mani/pedis. Princess gets a body polish treatment and wax, while Lloyd has some minor laser resurfacing done.
He might only be forty-two, but prison ages you. Lloyd Hansen won’t be caught with premature fine lines and wrinkles, thank you very much!

The Goth round opened with a whirlwind of weddings—Cassandra not only married Don (with no altar escapades!) but that same night Mortimer was so besotted with Dina that he not only proposed marriage but wanted to marry her the very same night that Cassandra got married, turning the wedding party into a double whammy.

Cassandra: This is... Dina: ...the happiest day of my life.
Both married couples didn't waste any time shimmying up to the bedroom—Dina and Mortimer most especially, given that Dina already has a bun in the oven that isn't Mortimer's.... and happens to belong to Don Lothario. She's not showing yet at all. Her scheme involves passing off Don's child as Mortimer's- entitling Dina to a greater portion of the Goth inheritance when Mortimer inevitably passes. She will inherit 1/2 as Mortimer's widow, but hopes to inherit another portion as the mother of one of his heirs. Cassandra soon ends up pregnant, and is excited to expand her family.
Dina doesn't take too long to settle into her position as the new lady of the house. The day after her wedding, she decides to engage in some retail therapy. Her shopping trip includes a detour to the ATM: she decides to transfer §10,000 from household funds into her own personal checking account. After all, a lady always needs a back up plan.

Dina: He said I could spend whatever I wanted- he never specified how much.
Meanwhile, Don settled into his new digs at Goth Manor. He's trying his best to build up a relationship with his future father-in-law; still, Don hasn't forgotten where he's came from. Even though the Goth family has a Butler, Don convinced both Mortimer and Cassandra that they should hire a maid for additional help: they agreed, and Kaylynn Langerak was hired on to help keep the house clean. Don continued to be generous with his tips.

Though Cassandra is expecting, she also desires to adopt a kitten- a want that Alexander shares. They decide to adopt a young kitten from the pet adoption service that Cassandra names Theano in honor of her late grandmother's cat, Hecuba. Little Theano quickly grows up.
The Goth Household is overflowing now, with a blended household of Mortimer and Dina + Cassandra and Don, alongwith Alexander. Despite this, things are running smoothly enough- Dina tries her best to make an effort with Cassandra as well as with Alexander.

Cassandra: Have you never seen Cléo? Ugh, it is a classic of the Champs Les Sims Nouvelle Vague! I think you're going to love it! Dina: *thinking to herself* I'm more of a Sims in the City 3 kind of girl.
Eventually, Cassandra and Dina end up going into labor- only hours apart.

Cassandra ends up giving birth to a beautiful daughter that she names Bella, in honor of her mother. Dina gives birth to a precious daughter as well- who is named Ariana. Mortimer is blissfully unaware, believing that little Ariana is his daughter.

Cassandra: Bella, I will love you until my last breath. You are named after a very important person: your grandmother. How I wish she was here... Dina: I've done it. When Mortimer dies, I will be entitled to the majority of his fortune as his widow and the mother of one of his children. The truth doesn't matter... he just needs to believe it.
